Segments

  • Cold open: the panhandling debate 0:02–1:24
The show opens mid-joke with the hosts debating whether to give money to panhandlers near the Roll Hay Road exit. One host jokes about a regular who 'hands out money left and right,' they riff on McDonald's gift cards, old bottles, and trash as alternatives, and nickname a generous regular 'Johnny King of the Saints.'
  • Show open: Eyes Wide Open in the studio, agenda set 1:26–4:41
A host opens the show (self-identifying as 'Ben Foos' in the audio) and introduces the night's guests, the band Eyes Wide Open, who will play and talk. He sets the agenda: a 'Name That Tune, Angel Edition' game using secular songs with the word angel in them (one host had sent a list of candidates that the host mostly ignored), a discussion of an article about the 'hipster church' trying to meet the culture, and a sermon one of them preached on the tone of what comes out of your mouth and how it represents Christ.
  • The congregational reading story 4:41–8:30
After joking that one of them says terrible things, a host tells the story of a recent service where the preaching host had a church member, Tony, lead a first-ever congregational reading of James 3 (about the tongue). The reading fell flat — the congregation murmured awkwardly like 'monks contemplating whether to eat the wafer' — and a table of six friends the host knew apparently left during it. The hosts debate whether congregational readings can ever work (choir director, metronome, or just not doing them) and rag on reading too slowly.
  • Chat banter, band introductions, and the LL Cool J claim 8:30–11:04
Reading the live chat, the hosts tease someone about eating Jotham's wedding cake and learn a band member is engaged and shopping for wedding cakes (wedding date given as August 6th). The band members are introduced by first name: Tyler, Jotham, Seth, and Luke; Christian couldn't make it and is dubbed 'Long Locks.' A riff on LL Cool J leads to the on-air claim that LL Cool J stands for 'Ladies Love Cool James,' and a host declares himself 'OL Mike' — One Lady Loves Mike.
  • How Eyes Wide Open formed and got its name 11:04–14:15
The band tells its origin story: it started with two of them jamming after church services (one had just left the band Firstborn Son), rehearsing at Open Bible in Pella, and booking their first concert with only one song written. About a hundred people showed up, three gave their lives to the Lord, and they discovered they were opening for John James, the original lead singer of the Newsboys, who turned out to be a motivational speaker rather than bringing a band. Rejected band names included The Wily Spider, Cheese Grater Deluxe, Blood Boots, and a wheel-within-a-wheel variant. The name came from reading a grandma's Bible: her note said 'Lord, open my eyes,' which they call profound — a call to open people's eyes to Christ, hope, and salvation.
  • 'Rescue' — song story and performance 14:15–18:23
A band member explains the song 'Rescue,' written about two years earlier: one friend was going through cancer, another wasn't saved, and the song is a cry from his heart for someone to come to their rescue with salvation and Christ. The band then performs the song live, and the hosts react warmly, joking about singing the high parts.
  • Band plugs: gigs, recording, and the EP 18:24–30:49
After 'Rescue,' the hosts plug the band's online presence (Facebook, Twitter at EWO Music, a MySpace in progress) and upcoming shows: this Sunday at House of Freedom in Ames with Dark Horse ($2, 6 p.m.), an acoustic show the last Sunday in March at Cafe Diem in Ankeny (free), April 1st at Zeke's in Ames with Abandoned Kansas on their CD release tour plus Swim with Dolphins and Mike Manes and In the Branches, and a waitlist spot at the Spirit Midwest music festival. The band is re-recording 'Rescue' as a full-band version at Cornstalk Productions with Phil Beerman (guitarist for Senseless Beauty), aiming for a four-track EP by May. The hosts tease one member about his fire photo on Facebook and his daughter playing with flash paper.
  • 'Maker of the Stars' — song story and performance 30:49–35:53
Asked about 'Maker of the Stars,' the band's self-described poet explains it's a soulful, slower song written for someone going through a rough time who can't find anything to make them happy — to let them know someone is out there and will see them through. The band performs it, and a host says he'd like to sing it to his kids before bed and jokes about ruining it by overdubbing his own third part in post.
  • A band member studies medicine; YouTube growth talk 35:55–38:17
Between songs the hosts joke about pro metrics on their YouTube channel (said to be gaining over a thousand views a week) and learn a band member is studying at DMU (Des Moines University) in a dual program: a Master of Public Health plus becoming a licensed doctor. He is originally from South Africa and hopes to return to open clinics for AIDS patients, prompting a digression about gangs stealing AIDS medication in Africa and governments reselling it.
  • The 5.2 aortic-root aneurysm story and medical banter 38:17–43:38
A host tells a personal health story: after going in for a cough, he was found to have an ascending-aortic-root aneurysm at '52 at the root'; the cardiologist recommended surgery while the surgeon said he was fine ('it's just big'), and the hosts jokingly ask the band member studying medicine whether he would 'cut Dan open' and get a second opinion. The thread spins into a gripe about an eye doctor refusing to release an eyeglass prescription (HIPAA invoked), ordering $16–$20 prescription glasses online instead, and a joke asking whether the med student could legally declare the host dead.
  • 'I Will Not Be Shaken' by On This Rock, plus Jam and Java 43:38–48:30
The hosts play a song, 'I Will Not Be Shaken,' by On This Rock, the band that was in the studio the previous week, noting the hosts sang backup on it. They plug On This Rock's upcoming Friday appearance at Jam and Java at Smoky Row coffee house in Des Moines (put on by the Spirit Midwest ministry folks), and a host recounts going to Jam and Java last Friday to see Rich Casciato — good coffee, no food because it was expensive.
  • 'Alive' — song story, performance, and the secret fourth track 48:31–56:05
Introducing their newest song, finished and rehearsed in the past week, a band member says 'Alive' came from a message their pastor preached about being holy and about temptations — it's a song addressed to the devil: we're not going to give in to temptation; we were dead until Christ came in and we came alive. A host praises 'old fist to the devil' songs, namechecks old-school Stryper and 'Days of Elijah.' After the performance the band admits the fourth song on the upcoming EP is written but still untitled — 'a secret.'
  • Facebook vs. the legitimate website 56:05–56:59
The band says tonight's clips will land on the show's YouTube channel, and the hosts debate web presence: a host calls himself an old fogey for liking 'a legitimate website,' arguing Facebook will fall out of vogue the way MySpace did (another recalls his little brother building him a terrible MySpace page — 'he defamed me').
  • The hipster church: meeting the culture or fighting it 56:59–1:05:37
The hosts work through an article about the 'hipster church' — churches holding services in nightclubs, playing secular-sounding music, trying to meet the culture — and the claim that it isn't building long-term sustainability because people come for the show and leave when nothing has roots. They argue it out: one side says you must recognize where the culture is (music changes; the organ wasn't around when Christ walked the earth) and cites seeing Christian metal bands As I Lay Dying and Demon Hunter in Des Moines, where tattooed fans said 'nobody wants me' at church. They land on three kinds of churches: the hipster church that softens faith to get people in, the insular church 'of the 99 sheep' that's too holy to make room, and the accepting church that looks at people's hearts and sees opportunity for grace. 'Mohair Baptist' gets a mention as the hypothetical church that looks weird just by being faithful.
  • Seeing people the way God sees them 1:05:37–1:13:52
Picking up the grace thread, a host tells a Red Lobster story: irritated at people crowding the door he was standing in front of, he realized he wasn't looking at them the way God does. The hosts share children's-Bible moments — one mangling the story of Jesus and the children ('He kicked them… sorry, I always mess that up'), a daughter fixated on the kid touching Jesus' beard in the illustrated Bible ('Jesus lets kids touch his beard'), and a three-year-old trying to command the rain with 'Be still' ('only Jesus can do it'). Then one host reads three verses on how God views people — 1 Peter 2:9 (chosen people, royal priesthood), Luke 12:24 (consider the ravens), Isaiah 43:4 (precious and honored) — and asks: if we are acceptable, valuable, and precious to God, do we treat the people around us the same way? The consensus: there's a gap, and remembering that Christ died for irritating people is a discipline.
  • Name That Tune, Heaven Edition: the rounds 1:13:57–1:22:24
The game begins — 'the fastest-growing game show in Christian internet radio' — though the on-air title is 'Name That Tune, Heaven Edition' rather than the 'Angel Edition' announced earlier. Rules: one point for the artist, one for the song title, 15 clips for 30 possible points, winner gets a show t-shirt after a $50 surcharge. The clips play with everyone guessing and hinting: Bob Seger, Sarah McLachlan, Johnny Cash, a country artist guessed as Barney, an oldies artist, a rocker 'married to a supermodel,' a 90s alternative rock group, a band 'with a birdish name,' a 50s tune popularized in an 80s Michael J. Fox movie, John Cougar Mellencamp, an MTV Unplugged recording, an 80s song, a 90s rock group, an American Idol hint, and a Paul Simon tune whose video featured Chevy Chase.
  • Name That Tune: answers, scores, and game history 1:22:24–1:30:10
The answers are revealed: Bob Seger's 'Shame on the Moon,' Sarah McLachlan's 'In the Arms of the Angels,' Johnny Cash ('The Man Comes Around' lyrics), Dixie Chicks' cover of a Fleetwood Mac tune (given as 'Godspeed'), Elvis Presley, Billy Joel's 'Lullaby,' Red Hot Chili Peppers' 'Under the Bridge,' the Black Crowes' 'She Talks to Angels,' 'Earth Angel' via Marvin Berry and the Starlights from Back to the Future, the J. Geils Band's 'Centerfold,' Nirvana's MTV Unplugged 'Lake of Fire' (a Meat Puppets cover), Journey's 'City of the Angels,' Foo Fighters' 'Learn to Fly,' James Blunt, and Paul Simon's 'You Can Call Me Al.' Scoring: 'Supportive Wife' had 12 points, Colin beat one host with 3, and the hosts did poorly overall. They note the 'Jesus Edition' went great but the Heaven Edition with Jesse Anderson bombed like this one — 'it may not be the fastest growing' — and plan a 'Faith' edition next.
  • Broadcast notes, radio plugs, and winding down 1:30:10–1:35:04
Wrapping up, the hosts plug the show's regulars: live every Monday 10 p.m. to midnight, the podcast, and the archive at livefromthepath.org. They announce the show will air on Praise 940 the first Sunday of every month at 5 p.m., thanking the 'Moving Iowa' radio show — J.C. Walker of iRealty and Luke Landis of Heartland Mortgage Group — for donating the airtime. They recap the band's Sunday show at House of Freedom in Ames (6 p.m., room for ~125), joke about chewing tobacco ('that better not be the grizzly'), compare the show to a Jerry Springer car wreck you can't look away from, and riff on a sudden bromance with band member Tyler.
  • The 24-7 prayer room and the National Atheist Convention 1:35:04–1:42:09
With about 15 minutes left, the hosts announce the church's twice-yearly 24-7 prayer room: April 10th through the 24th (ending on Easter), two weeks of round-the-clock prayer with paper on the walls for prayer requests, music, instruments, and snacks; the show will broadcast from the prayer room for two of those weeks. One host tells how signing up for hour blocks (and late-night slots like 2–4 a.m.) flies by, and recalls getting fired up about the 'God is for me' psalm at 3:30 a.m. with no one around. Then the plan: the National Atheist Convention is in Des Moines April 21–24, and they'll run a prayer room on site, incognito — quietly praying that God implodes false thinking rather than protesting. Hotel rooms are sold out, which becomes its own bit.
  • Final plugs and sign-off 1:42:09–1:45:56
The sign-off round: the show's YouTube channel (youtube user livefromthepath) will carry tonight's performances and the full episode will post within 24 hours; listeners can sign up for the podcast and newsletter. Gig reminders: On This Rock at Jam and Java on Friday, Syndrome of Fire at the 504 Club Thursday (21+, 10 p.m.), and Eyes Wide Open Sunday at House of Freedom in Ames (2202 Lincoln Way, by the Hendrix sign). The band plugs a free download of the re-recorded 'Rescue' on their Facebook within a couple of weeks via Cornstalk Productions. After a JC Penney's doorbuster-sales joke, the band walks off to the 'chapel area,' and the hosts sign off from Live from the Path with Eyes Wide Open.

My old bottles Here's my trash Don't take it back It's cash Here you go fella Dink I wish you the best I'll be back with another one Pretty soon You're lucky I stopped Chewing tobacco Oh man Alright you're listening Live from the path Hey my name is Ben Foos Thanks for being All with us tonight Really appreciate Hanging out with us We have the fellas From Eyes Wide Open In the studio tonight They're going to play Some tunes for us Talk a little bit They've got a bunch Of cool stuff coming up I'm excited to hear More about it Dan got a haircut This week Woo

Yeah I didn't but I need one Oh Bummer Thanks for noticing I was going to do An impression of Daniel With a boot A boot and two Cheetos And I forgot both What do you mean I ate the Cheetos On the way in And I forgot the boot Yeah It was going to be Right on Man It was going to be Right on Alright If you saw this Boot and two Cheetos You'd go Dan Hudson That would have been More impressive If you said you did it 15 minutes ago People weren't watching No I tried to cut down On my lying Dan

Oh yeah Serpent's tongue And all that business Didn't you just talk About that man We've been going Through James At the church Dan Like the devil's on me Alright so in addition To Eyes Wide Open Being in the studio We're going to play A rousing round Of Name That Tune Angel Edition To bring you up to speed That means I play you A clip of a secular tune With the word angel in it I basically give you The angel section You tell me the title And artist It's going to be Bloodbath Can I start guessing Him now Yeah That's rough No no Dan No

You're going to have To wait for it And I'll tell you this Here's what I had done Mike sends me this Big list of stuff That he's put together These angel tunes Right I intentionally didn't use them Because I don't need him Getting a head start on Are you kidding me Those were the best ones Whatever You googled tunes With angel in it And then gave me The first two page results I'm no fool I went and checked it To see what work you've done And sure enough The songs you come pumping out Are from some kind of blog post From some Johnny Jackson From three years ago I came up with like Four or five of those On my own And I told the woman

Flat out That you were not going to use That I thought you'd use Half the tunes I say I said but there's no way He's going to use all of them He's just that type of egoist That will look at my list And go No these aren't good enough We'll do something different And you know what I'll be a shark donkey That you haven't got rid of The whole list And haven't used Any of the tunes I sent I used a few Yeah You got a shot at a few You better have How many angel tunes are there That blog was long I searched I mean there was a lot of It's going to be a tough one So anyway We're going to do Name that tune Angel edition We're also going to talk

A little bit about The hipster church There was an article And this article's old Yeah But it was about It was about the Kind of the emerging Or the hipster church Things that the church Has done to try to bring People in And how it's not Building long term Sustainability in the church body And I think Maybe the thing I want to talk A little bit about Was You know What place in the culture Does the church At what point Do you embrace the culture Because that's where The culture is at Or do you continue To fight the culture Because frankly Culture is taking you In the wrong direction

Right Like where's the line Where's the line In meeting them Where they're at You know Like you know Bringing the message Of Christ To where the people are But not necessarily Not compromising Right Right Well yeah We'll talk about that Yeah We're also going to talk about One of the things That was interesting And one of the sermons This week The sermon from Dan Was about About your tone Things that come out Of your mouth Bummer How it's How it's representing Christ You know Did you guys notice

I looked like directly at you Oh I thought you were Looking at Mike That's why I stand next to Mike I assumed you were looking at Ben I thought Yeah Dan Tell him I was going back I thought he's terrible Mike says terrible things Out of his mouth Yeah I heard I heard rumors My whole small group Was talking about it What do you mean About what That I said something Somebody making funny noises During the second service What do you mean Mocking the word of God What Who me What I wasn't doing that Oh no Wait a minute Was it about your Congregational reading

Okay This is terrible This was terrible It was a great idea Do you guys do Congregational reading At your church Sometimes No No We never have I don't know So we've We've like never done it I think How long have I been Going to this church Four or five years Yeah we've probably Haven't done it Never done it This week Dan decides Which is a great idea To do it We're going to bust out A congregational reading So do you want to Like stand up And then you Yeah we had to Stand up and Just read along

It was on the screen So they all read along Okay what he was Trying to do I'm assuming Was drive the point home Because we were doing James What part What chapter James Was it Three Yeah About running your mouth You know The stuff comes from The heart Out of the mouth Whatever And so It turned out to be Just the most awkward Abnormal situation Ever In fact I was standing right by I usually I am at both services Because I usually Play the piano And once a month I go with the family

You know So this happened To be my week To hang out With the family So I come rolling Into second service And I was holding The crying baby So I went back By the sound board Talked to Ben And the guy stands up And it wasn't Dan It was Tony Who's a good member Of our church And that's the thing Is Dan sent Tony To do it He wouldn't even Do it himself He sent our buddy Tony up there To sacrifice himself In front of this Congregational reading So he goes We're all going to Read this together And I looked at Ben And I said

Is he serious Are we going to Congregational read He goes Oh yeah Watch this I can read I can read louder Than this entire Congregation put together Because everyone hates it It was so embarrassing It was a bunch of Like monks contemplating Whether they're going to Eat the wafer Or not eat the wafer Right It's like people That joined the monastery And decided that Maybe they made The wrong decision That they don't really Believe what's going on In here And they should have They just went to Dolls instead They want to speak Just softly enough That they're just

Loud enough They're saying something But softly enough They can't hear you That's exactly right That's how I used to Sing like in church You know And then my whole life Until I became older I didn't want anybody To hear me next to me So I just kind of Yeah like you think People are going to Make fun of your reading Or something Or you know What if you read Like I get irritated Because I read fast And the congregational Reading is going Extremely slow I thought we could Really get this moving Here fellas I'm sure the Lord Wants me to hear Exactly what he's Trying to say In the next say

Three days What about versions Yeah what versions Do you use Well that's why I had it on the screen So it was all the same Yeah so What if you don't Like reading that Version from the screen It's too bad Yeah Get over it Here's what I think That's what I think I think that you're Going to do a Congregational reading You got to get The choir director Up there to conduct Everybody Get everybody Going at the same I don't have one of those You could run a Metronome We need a choir We're going to find This is a choir now Well I got a better idea

Why don't we just Not do congregational Reading No no we're going To start doing Every week We're going to be Known for this So you guys say You don't have Congregational reading I'll be up at your Place Come out to some Do you need a piano Player It's borderline Cultish in there It sounded Just kind of creepy It really did It did not get In fact I thought Someone had left The service due to it There was a table In the back That was full like Six people When I walked in And I thought Man they're sitting

At my table I had to go sit Somewhere else And then I turned Around after The congregational reading And I look over And that table Is completely empty I'm like they left It was the Congregational reading They left They thought it was As dumb as I did These people Are good friends of mine I should go find them Dan says Okay so Dan thinks That they moved To a better seat To get closer I did some research According to spies That he has Within the body But I'm fairly certain They left There are cameras everywhere I haven't been proven Otherwise

Who's eating cake Hold on a minute I'm trying to follow What's going on in the chat It's a little too far away From me Is someone eating cake Who's stealing cake Do you guys know Anything about cake Anybody you know Would be talking about cake I don't think so My fiance might We've been looking for Wedding cakes Ooh What's eight Hey they're talking about me It's Hey It's my buddies Yeah it's my mom Hey mom Wait a minute You're plotting to eat You and your friends Are eating Jotham's wedding cake Well I hope he is He's invited to my wedding So I can At some point

Well but like right now Do you have I hope not I want to try Tyler you dirty heathen Special order So when's the wedding August 6th Are we all invited Yeah That's a mistake It's not going to start on time Can we broadcast live Yeah Definitely That is an awesome idea Getting to the vows He stands forward Here he goes His right shoe's untied Oh that's embarrassing What did they write On the bottom of his feet Are those Velcro Good move Oh they dropped the ring They're both looking for it Oh they bumped heads Oh It's a disaster All right Well you are listening

To Live from the Path Broadcasting live From livefromthepath.org We are in the studio With eyes wide open That's Tyler, Jotham, Seth And Luke Christian could not make it He is a Looking for a job Oh He's a hippie He has many dates Hold on What else I'm trying to I picked up gossip He braids his hair But only the left side They didn't say that part I'm just guessing Does he have longer hair? Yeah He's got flowing blonde hair He's Long Locks He sounds awesome He is He's like from California Can we call him Long Locks Since he's not here? Sure Does he have a nickname?

He does now Long Locks Long Locks I might shorten it up To the double L That seems like it Double L Seems a little cooler No that's how Ladies Love Cool James That's where LL Cool J Came from Two L's Really? Uh huh That's what it stands for LL Cool J stands for Ladies Love Cool James Isn't that cheesy? Yeah He seems like such a cool guy But that's cheesy I should have been LL Mike But I'm not But it didn't work out So Lonely Lonely Mike Yeah I am OL Mike One lady loves Mike That's it Oh no Alright so

Eyes Wide Open Is with us in the studio I guess maybe Tell everybody a little bit About yourself How long has the band Been together And how did you guys Come together as a group? I want to scoot this over Alright Well really it just started out With me and Joth I'm kind of jamming out I just left Firstborn Son And then Joth and I kind of Just started jamming out After service at church He'd jump on the drum kit I'd jump on the guitar Stuff started clicking So we started writing Some songs together Worked through the Open Bible and Pella And then Yeah Joth and what What have I been to say? I don't know

We started practicing For our first concert Like nine months ago No Six months ago Oh sorry Six months ago Yeah Gotta remember to come Close to these mics And you know Just started jelling And we had a bunch of fun And you know We were really of the mind That if we were going to do something We were going to do it for Christ And all of our music Was going to be inspired To reach people And so our first concert We were really shocked Because there were like A hundred people that showed up And we had three people Give their lives to the Lord Awesome Yeah we gave an article Actually some fun trivia About that show When we booked it I believe we only actually

Had one song Yeah So that was kind of just like Hoping and praying That maybe we would have enough To put together More than five minutes Of fly time Quick write some music Yeah right That's pretty much What it ended up being And the pressure was on too Because we were opening For John James The original lead singer Of the Newsboys He was a motivational speaker For the night We didn't find out Until we got there We thought he was bringing a band We got there He's like oh Motivational speaker Like we're the only music Oh Yeah Quick write another one Yeah so But all together It did go well

And God really blessed that night Yeah definitely did So Well good So where'd the name Of the band come from Actually we were Throwing around some names And we had some pretty crazy ones I don't even remember What we did They were so stupid But then I was reading Through my They really were We were We're not good At naming things You can't give me one of them I really want to know One of them That was not good The Wily Spider We had some that sounded Just like really bad metal bands Like 90's Like death metal bands Cheese Grater Deluxe Blood Boots I know we stole a lot of names From Ezekiel Yeah we did

Yeah we did What's that Wheel We got Wheel You know I think one of them Was a wheel within a wheel Within a wheel Or something like that It was pretty bad No but I was reading Through my grandma's bible One day And she had Some passages Outlined there And some notes And she said Lord open my eyes And I was like That is profound right there That's what we want You know So Eyes Wide Open Is just kind of a Call to people You know we want our music To open their eyes To Christ And the message of hope And of salvation So Awesome

Yeah I love it Well tell you what Let's get right to the tunes The first one I have Is Rescue Can you tell me a little bit About the song Sure I wrote this song About two years ago I had several inspirations A friend of mine Was going through A really rough patch With cancer And I had A friend of mine Who wasn't saved At the time And so the title Rescue As you'll see It's just a cry From my heart For them For someone To come to their rescue To bring them Salvation To bring them Christ

So that's really The inspiration for the song Like you said All of our music Is really about Reaching people And about getting The message out there With some cool tunes So Alright cool Well this is You're listening to Live from the Path This is Eyes Wide Open With Rescue I tried so hard To make it right But on my own I fall down I fall back tonight I need someone To show me I need a guiding light To help me see Come to my rescue And save my soul Give me salvation That can make me Hope From my past regrets Be life

Bring me true Before I am dead My life is fading It's fading to black And I have so many things But still I lack The one thing That could bring me to you Please won't you show me The way the light come to my rescue and save my soul bring me salvation that can make me home from my past regrets bring me life bring me truth I'm dead tell me where you're gone salvation good job guys that was uh eyes wide open with rescue I like it you two singing fellas are wily you're some some wily fellas I was gonna do the high parts with you but I backed out I didn't want to steal your thunder well thank you for that yeah there's no problem I could do it yeah I'm coming to your wedding definitely I'll be singing in the balcony yeah yeah there's nothing there's nothing that makes the groom look better than me in the audience because the bride can look around and go yeah boy I really don't have any choice he's the best one what's wrong with that cat that's great yeah this is gonna be awesome so that was uh that was eyes wide open do you guys have a website that people can visit we have a Facebook we're in the process of getting a MySpace and recording an EP right now so yeah you can find us on Facebook or Twitter at uh EWO music that's EWO M-U-S-I-C we're on Facebook or Twitter that would be uh eyes wide open acronym correct it would yeah EWO dig on it yeah that's it I was true isn't that a bird an EWO I don't know could be I'm thinking I'm thinking emu emu yeah that's not a bird it said a moo no it's not it's emu a moo you're accentuating the wrong excuse me excuse me emu emu yes yeah yeah yeah it is not a moo that sounds like a guy that runs the gas station well if he's a seven foot tall bird then it's it's one in the same it's a moo anyway that would have been great we should have named our band it could have been like eyes must open yeah and then we could have had like our uh symbol could have been uh an emu an emu yeah yeah people would be like a moo's here yeah put on guitars and stuff hey pretty sure the open doesn't start with a U though yeah yeah hey huh they're just they're excited about uh the name they're not

she's she's not interested she said are you gonna embarrass me again Michael of course oh I should mention real quick one last shameless plug we are playing april 1st at zeke's in ames with uh abandoned kansas on their cd release tour that's abandoned as in leave not abandoned in three words oh yeah yeah abandoned kansas i wasn't smart enough to put that together yeah most people aren't oh they're doing the record release tour they're gonna be in at zeke's in ames on april 1st i believe it's like a 12 dollar cover i don't know for sure probably well worth the money though right oh yeah they put on a killer show they're gonna be with uh swing with dolphins and mike manes in the branches both of whom put on incredible shows as well let's mention our incredible show yeah once again yeah we do an incredible show as well no no we do even if you've seen the radio you can come to this one yeah yeah yeah you can come to this one yeah are you guys are are you guys at the spirit midwest music festival we have emailed the barnes's uh-huh and gotten back a letter that says if anybody drops you're on the list oh awesome brilliant so because we can talk to people out of coming yeah can you yeah we can do that yeah yeah would you please yeah

we'll work on it okay i love it yeah uh you also uh we were talking a little bit earlier is you have um you're doing some recording right yeah we are yes what's that tell me more about that uh jotham you i'll take this one yeah yeah you got it he knows the information no no he knows the information he's already gone uh jotham do you want to take this one yeah okay all right uh yeah we're at cornstalk we're at cornstalk productions right now um we're re-recording rescue uh full band version and uh yeah it's good times we got a lot of stuff taken care of last night we're hoping to put out four track ep by latest may so that's exciting stuff and uh yeah hopefully it'll be good which definitely i should mention something real quick oh yeah um here we go we're recording at cornstalk productions

and phil beerman uh he's the guitarist for senseless beauty he's working with us there uh he owns the studio and he gave us an incredible rate but he asked us that because of that incredible rate that we would really really plug him good and make sure that people know that he's there and doing his thing so this is it this is my shameless plug for phil beerman at cornstalk productions is a very incredible recording engineer awesome where's that where's his place at it's not bad uh… clear like okay would you know his phone number uh… not off the top of my head but i was just kidding i don't expect you to have a uh… but it's out of this war based on clear lakes that right now in okay i was five uh… everyone you know if any of them in the next grade little i'm sure he was still something but when he was five but yeah i think so the idea i would give away a to what uh… he's got a facebook page

they haven't got really gotten off their feet why are people not doing legitimate websites anymore because everybody goes to facebook what's it really called um… it's cornstalk productions c-o-r-n-s-t-o-k oh this is a mistake there it is there it is oh you missed it you didn't spell it st-o-k not a-o-k yeah there it is cornstalk productions lc yeah i like them we're good we're tight okay yeah you already like them hey i'm who am i friends with i got a couple of you guys this week all right all right all right so let's talk about the they don't like me to promote my facebook i don't want you to then we'll sit there and look you up on the air no see but then i take pictures and i tag you

so it shows up on your thing there we go i was a little scared at first so find me it's cause he's got that fire picture where he's looking at the fire in a plain white t-shirt it's creepy i mean hey dan it's legitimate it's fire because my daughter okay she had like this huge flame and then we were taking pictures of each other and you gotta time it just right so she kept taking pictures of me and it'd be like like she just she missed it what was on fire it's like flash paper it's a you know it's a big flash of fire you let your daughter play with fire yeah well it did scare her the first time

it almost burned her hair you know the state lets me have her only once in a couple weeks so i just want to get all the back of my phone her mom gets to watch that's not true dan is a very legitimate father so i am just jesting i don't know i have spoken in jest alright well uh i don't know about you guys but i want to hear something else um tell me a little bit about maker of the stars all right jonathan you want to take this one yeah i do a lot of songwriting i guess i'm the poet um maker of the stars is just uh it's a really kind of soulful slower song that we do um i wrote the song it's just uh about uh a girl or a guy who just they're uh going through a rough time

um and and they just can't find you know uh something to make them happy and so this it's going down oh boy anyway so yeah this song was written uh in response to that just to let them know that there's someone out there um and he's gonna he's gonna see him through you know i feel distracted at all yeah and i wrote this the song uh it's about something the camera is broken don't mind me alright okay so this is uh right takeovers

this is eyes wide open with maker of the stars i like that one i'd like to sing that to my kids before they go to bed that's that's nice i was gonna do third part right now not that time that one was too pretty i was gonna ruin it it almost went i almost went what a lucky man he was it sounded like that i'm sure glad you didn't yeah i'm reconsidering it i'm gonna overdub it when i go to post the show i'm gonna make you guys say like and ben would you really sing along with us and i'm like oh no i can't no please do oh i can't okay so is that one of the ones that you're gonna put on the uh the ep then yes oh yeah

okay awesome awesome yeah all these songs that we're playing tonight will be on the ep perfect that's cool i'm excited for that ep so so are we kind of debuting them for the world i mean you guys have had some concerts and stuff but this will be yeah oh daniel what are you saying i don't know if debuting for the world well i mean our youtube channel is going like crazy right now that's true there we go that's true the youtube channel does very well it's gaining over a thousand a week i mean of uh you know it's uh no that's true or more than that yeah it doesn't matter but if do you know how to work the pro metrics on the uh on the youtube action i don't even know what that means well it tells you where the where the people are are coming from to watch the youtube i just got some pro metrics done and i am an excellent help i had mine removed it was bothering i had to get some new shoes but that was it so you're studying to be a doctor

how do you get that stuff taken care of well actually i'm i'm at dmu des moines university oh yeah yeah um and this is kind of my beginning uh to i'm doing a dual program i'm getting a master of public health and then i'm becoming a uh the licensed doctor what's that mean master of public health well it's just it's working with communities as opposed to single individuals because i'm a i'm originally from south africa which was south africa and uh… so i want to go back eventually and open up clinics allow with aids patients and things that that nature um so in order to do that i needed to get a grasp on community health care as opposed to just you know right jerson doctor so i just read an article like i think it was today that that there's a big problem now in africa where like gangs are stealing the aids medication yeah and then they're concocting some drug they're mixing it with what like gasoline yeah i mean like whatever they can get their hands on yeah yeah and then they're using it as a drug so these people who have legitimate disease you know are being robbed yeah and these people get high and it's like this huge addictive horrible thing going on you know that the problem is the government's over there you know they uh… they hold back the medication they sell it for the highest bidder and uh… yeah right so the u.s. gives them all this money to get drugs and then they just sell

it to make a big profit so oh man well actually uh… he plays a lot of operation uh… so have you gotten to the unit yet where they talk about uh… ascending aortic aneurysms yeah yeah i've done okay so here's okay give me give me your advice all right because i i i i just uh… i went in for a cough a few weeks ago i'm not going to make a big thing uh… here here's the deal i'm at a fifty two at the root okay and that's what everybody said that's exactly the response i was getting there by the way cheryl uh… go ahead and tune out right now so everybody's panicking you're gonna die at any minute i'm like okay i'm ready and uh… so i go through all these tests you know and and ct scan blah blah blah oh sure t e p e t e e thing um… a lot of and they sent me to the surgeon so i just went a week ago today to the surgeon to find out okay i'm you know and and we've scheduled it in our heads case we're gonna have the surgery obviously i'm gonna die at any minute so surgery can repair it um… and the surgeon's like oh no you're good and uh… because the it's at the root you know and as if it had expanded from its original case it would have taken the the the valves with it but everything's tight everything's good really the test i mean it's just this perfect that the heart's perfect everything's working perfectly it's just big and and so what's your professional do i have surgery or uh… did you bring pocket knife anything with you yeah um… you know i i don't know if i'm qualified to give you advice because but no i'm gonna i'm pretty much i'm putting everything on what you say because i have right now surgery cardiologist says surgery surgeon says no he said you can shop around and find someone so whatever you say is what i'm gonna do yeah you're the you're the please don't sue him for malpractice your cardiologist your cardiologist said yes and your surgeon said no surgeon said no the guy who actually your cardiologist is not gonna be doing he's not a surgeon correct he said the surgeon knows more about this than i do oh there you go if the surgeon knows more about it than he does now see you're getting all political what do you say i can already tell you what the surgeon said are you gonna cut dan open or what because i'm thinking you're a lot cheaper i've had enough of this back and forth we got a four dollar cover charge

you're thinking of this wrong it's because dan's a single guy jotham only does community work you need a bunch of other dudes yeah just bring them all in i'll do them all at once your pet's got a knife pet's found a kid that's a nice knife i'd be inclined to go with your surgeon that's about our gut feelings because you know it's a lot less painful and he probably does surgeries all the time so he probably knows what he's talking about and he stands to profit if he surgeries on you i know that's what i was thinking i was like well you just lost 90 grand to be honest i'd get a second opinion i would just go to another surgeon take your files have him refer you to another surgeon for a second opinion don't say that is it hard to get your files from the medical doctor i don't know because i tried to get my eye prescription from my eye doctor and they acted like it was the biggest faux pas there's a thing called hipaa and it prevents them from releasing any information without you well yeah they'll release it to you but they won't release it to anyone else and so you have to sign a piece of paper like they want a signed copy not like a you know on the phone hey you can release it and then then they're authorized but you know it's crazy if you look at some of them they've got dates like they'll only release it from this time to this time and then it's it's like a closed thing it's crazy huh yeah i all i know is that i went in for i get my my health insurance plan covers like an eye exam and like a hundred bucks towards glasses well the glasses at this joint are like four hundred dollars right so i'm just gonna have them do the eye exam and i'll just order them off the net or something you know yeah yeah so i go rolling in there and they give me the eye exam or i say can i have my prescription they say well we can't release that information

i sold you to me they said yeah we can't release that information to you because you might use it somewhere else i said well that's exactly what i'm gonna do i said your eyeglasses are i don't think that's illegal that's what i said yeah exactly they have to release your medical that's what i said i said tell me my prescription well we're gonna have to have the doctor uh tell you i said oh i think that's just a bad business yeah i said cart him out scan i'll stay in here and so they said well he's not in anymore well you'll have to call tomorrow i said oh i see how this is gonna go so i just ordered the closest possible prescription off the internet i could think of that was about a 30 i thought you get glasses on the internet for 20 bucks with lenses in them so i figured well if this is pretty close you know i'll just order another pair i can make five i can do five pairs and still be on the up and up without having paid 300 bucks for glasses you can just go to walmart they do it pretty cheap there yeah yeah there's a place on the internet where i can seriously

i buy glasses for uh like 16 dollars with the lenses in them prescription everything they're awesome is that coastal contacts or uh coastal contacts is contacts i haven't found a cheap place for contacts they do contacts um i've always only ordered active if i'm done oh but well you know i get mine from the lbw i wear okay yeah they're a legitimate operation as far as i know so so okay if i if i drop dead tonight can you declare me dead legally no no not yet what good are you uh you're not gonna do surgery you won't you won't help me to live you won't help me to live you can't say if i die i'm uh

qualified to do cpr and stuff like that that's awesome it won't matter i'm really good at cutting things okay just dissect you that'd be good and they can buzz if they see you like hit a rib or something yeah exactly wrong loser all right you've been listening to live from the path uh we are in studio with uh eyes wide open we're going to let you take a a quick listen to uh on this rock who was in the studio last week uh with their or two weeks ago last week that was last week that was last week uh the song uh i will not be shaken they will be playing at jam and java

that is at uh the smoky row coffee house it's on the corner of uh martin luther king and uh in just off the interstate in des moines it's the one that goes i yeah yeah you will not be shaken okay yeah so uh that's us in the background singing yeah yeah definitely so if you want to check them out um they're also on this rock it's also on facebook but uh like i said you can catch them at the jam and java that's put out by the spirit midwest ministry folks i was actually i went to jam and java uh last friday and saw rich rich casciato

uh and it was good it was fun i had a lot of fun there good coffee i didn't buy any the coffee was good i did not buy any food though because the food was a little expensive the food was a little spicy i think that's gender how it is yeah so uh and of course i made a mistake though because i hadn't eaten anything all day and so i drank a i drank a soda before i got there and then i drank a coffee while i was there and so all i had was this you know rumbling burst of caffeine eating away at my intestines and uh that was it that's beautiful that's awesome so don't that's how you that's how you get the ladies so

yeah so kids don't do like uncle ben says eat your rice all right here we go uh i'm gonna have you listen to uh this is uh i will not be shaken um by on this rock on this rock with uh i will not be shaken it's been out of luck well there's nowhere to go when you're sinking in sand so before you fall let me give you a hand well there's nowhere to live so repeat after me this is my battle cry i will not be shaken from this rock i stand up on no i will not give in to my temptations i'll hold on and i will not be shaken from this rock i will not be shaken i will not be shaken back on what's been done just keep your chin up or you'll fall in the mud keep your eye on the prize and look straight ahead don't ever look back

or you might turn to sin well there's nowhere to live if you're living so repeat after me this is my battle cry i will not be shaken from this rock i stand upon no i will not give in to my temptations i'll hold on and i will not be shaken from this rock i will not be shaken from this rock i stand upon no i will not give in to my temptations i'll hold on and i will not be shaken from this rock i will not be shaken from this rock i stand upon no i will not give in to my temptations i'll hold on and i will be shaken so i will not be shaken and we're back live you like that? i love it tyler's mocking me he's over there mocking me he also tried to cut one of his eyebrows to look like mine i got one eyebrow that's got a little thing in it and he noticed it and he tried he went to the bathroom and kind of shaved a little part off i don't know how you sleep at night treatment there was a song i was thinking of on the way here and i had totally forgotten La, la, la, ladies, ladies. Ba, ba, ba, ballas, ballas. Ba, ba, ba, fellas, fellas. What? Uh-huh.

I think it's the Destiny's Child zone. Destiny's Child. La, la, la, ladies, ladies. Me and Dan are disgusted. Anyway, that was On This Rock. Again, they will be at Jam and Java at Smokey Roll Coffeehouse on Friday. I believe it starts at 7 o'clock. If you go to, if you look for the Spirit Midwest on the Facebook, they've got their events out there, and you can put that on your calendar to make sure you don't miss it. It's good. I tell you what, well, I don't know about you, Mike, but I had an itch on my shoulder, and I gave it a little scratching, and I found out that it was due to Not Enough Music by Eyes Wide Open. Oh, wow. Mike, I have the same condition. I got a fever. Eyes Wide Open. We make you itchy. He took my camera, and he touched me. I'm going to go back to eating my cookie. All right, so this is a live. Why don't you tell me a little bit about this one? All right, this is our newest song. Actually, we just finished writing it like a week ago, and we spent the week practicing it for the show, but, well, I spent the week practicing it for the show is what I should say. And he taught it to us tonight. Yeah, yeah, yeah. As you can tell, I'm the inspiration for our music. Anyways, no, just kidding. We worked together.

This song, Alive, came from a message that our pastor was talking about. It was a message about being holy and temptations and whatnot, and the song is just a real message to… I'm sorry. I'm sorry to interrupt your story, but… Temptations, huh? It goes… The pastor was talking about holy and temptations, and Dan does this. Dan goes… I've got hours left to live. It's a very serious… Yeah, so holy set apart and everything. I'm going to eat this thing. Something fierce. All right, sorry. I'm sorry. I can't take Dan. It's not your fault. Anyways, it's just a song to the devil. It's saying that we're not going to give in to this temptation. We're going to come alive. We're dead until Jesus Christ comes in, and we come alive. So, there you go. There we go. I love songs like that. That's the thing. I love most of our worship tunes. Especially the Old Testament ones. Yeah, the Old Testament rockers. Days of Elijah. But every once in a while, someone will pump out a tune

that just gives the old fist to the devil and says, Not this time, brother. And I love those tunes the most. For some reason, I just like the battle. That's it. We're not going to take this from you anymore. Old School Striper. I'm excited. Let's do it. Don't even bring that up. Old School Striper. This is Eyes Wide Open with Alive. I thought I was in control That I had everything You tried to bring me down You try to put me in This time around You push and pull me in You try to drag me down with sin But I won't lay down and die I come alive See, I like that. That's good stuff. Fist of the devil. That's it. We're not putting up your business anymore. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Oh, I like that. I'm doing this. I'm doing this. Mike, you want to straighten that out on yourself a little bit?

Yeah, I got it. I got it. No problems. So we're very good, guys. Guys, that sounded excellent. I like all those tunes. Yeah. Yeah, really. What's the fourth one on the EP? Kick it that way. Oh, it's a secret. Yeah. We've got to hold something back. Actually, he can't give it away because we don't have a title for it. You haven't written it yet? Yeah, that's actually the truth. Well, we have written it. Oh, let's get it right up all the way to the studio. No, we just don't have a title for it, actually. That's cool. It's untitled. We're good price. I can hook you guys up. I got inside information. I like this man. You're the new PR guy. I'm fired? Yeah, you're fired. Yeah, I'm sorry. You don't need to come

because, you know… Classic. Yeah. So you can… Again, that was Eyes Wide Open. You can find them on Facebook. They're working on a MySpace. Yeah, and an actual website. And a legitimate website. Yeah. I like it, Dan. I like it. Call me an old fogey, but I like the legitimate website. Yeah. Because here's what I think. I think Facebook's going to fall out of vogue. Yeah, well, at some point. You give it three years, and you know what? You're going to be standing there looking nerdy because you rocked out the Facebook, and that's all you had. I think MySpace is on that way, right? That's what happened to the MySpace. Pretty much that's all it is now is music, isn't it? I never did MySpace, but that's what everybody says. My little brother made me a MySpace page, and it was terrible.

He defamed me. That's what happened. That's it. That's the story. That was your country. He defamed. He defamed me. I will tell you how he did it, but it was pretty severe defamation. So I'm not going to tell you. Yeah. So we were talking a little bit earlier about the hipster church, and basically the crux of this deal was is they were talking about there were a number of churches who tried to, how I would think about it, meeting the culture where it's at, but in doing so, I think separated themselves out, not necessarily from the truth, but from a long-lasting seed, like planting actual things where you can grow roots in your faith and in your walk with Christ. I think what you've seen, there's a lot of churches that have done things not because to try to PR the place up, right? Like specifically saying,

let's hold church in a nightclub. Let's hold church somewhere to give it a little bit of a pizzazz, which I think on itself isn't bad. I mean, there's nothing wrong with holding church, frankly, anywhere. Right. But the question is, are you producing flash to blind people into coming and walking in without giving them roots to stay and grow? Because here I think was the deal. The crux of the article was about how churches were doing that. They were leading people in. They were having certain types of music. They were doing certain… Yeah, like they were playing like all secular music, right? Yeah, like YouTube maybe. Yeah, yeah. Something that sounded real faithy. So, you know… Had maybe the word angel in it or something. Yeah, yeah.

Things of that nature. But they said that what they're finding is that people are just like running from these churches in droves and it's because they're coming for the show. Right? People are looking for faith and you're giving them the same world that they're walking out of to find faith from. Sure, because it's easy to walk away from a nightclub or some type of entertainment. You go, you get your fill, you do your thing and then you're like, eh, and you go on. You have nothing invested other than the time you spent there. So I could see how people would be potentially leaving if they're not giving them grounded faith. Right, because where's your sanctuary, right? You know, like… I mean, it's not the church building

obviously that gives any type of sanctuary, you know, but like it's your church body and your other believers for Christ, you know, that give you spiritual sanctuary and give you somewhere, you know, somewhere to be held when things aren't going great and when things are great somewhere to celebrate with you, you know, and give you an actual faith in Christ and a realistic view on what Jesus' sacrifice was about and what it is in turn to. Because that's one of the things that gets lost in a message like that is, you know, Christ died for your salvation, true. You know, God loves you. That's also true. But there's a cost to becoming a Christ follower. There's a cost to your belief and that's faithfulness to Him. And if you don't ever know, you know, if it's never portrayed to you or you never thought

to look into it, what Christ actually expects out of you as a result of His payment, you know, then you're not fulfilling your end of the bargain whatsoever. Yeah. But warm fuzzies only get you so far, you know. If there's no depth to your faith, you know, when the doctor says, hey, you have a 52-millimeter ascending neoteric aneurysm, your life kind of falls apart. And if you have faith, you're like, oh, whatever. I mean, to live as Christ, to die is gain. Right. Like, this is really cool. This is a really cool life and all. Yeah. But I guess if it's time for me to go, I'm out. Exactly. When your friends mock you,

it hurts a lot. Yeah, that reminds me of 1 John where he's talking about Christ was hated and you'll be hated for your faith. Yeah. You know, I mean, if you're not getting fed and taught solid word, you know, when that comes around, you're going to be like, oh, no, listen, for me, where's that lovey-dovey stuff I was getting at the church service when they came out and they preached love and, you know, not that I'm knocking love because love, without love, there's nothing. We're against love. Oh, no. No, that's not what I'm saying. We're not for that at all. That's not the devil. Yeah. No, I think that's a good point.

I think the distinction or maybe the errancy in that particular line of thought was is that it's more important to get people in and get them attached to a church, but if it's not a solid church body, if it's not grounded in faith, if it's not grounded in what the truth is, like, all you're doing is taking the main culture, softening up a little bit, making it look like Christ, and then trying to make people, see if people don't know the difference. Well, but that's not a faith. That's not a belief. That was the same thing that they kind of got in trouble, were doing, is they were trying to make the church hip, countercultural. Like, you know, there's a certain sect of population that wants to be countercultural anyway, so they look at the culture

and they go, ha, not me, not this guy, I'm not following the mold, you know, and so they present the church that way and in all actuality, the truth of it is, the church is that way, you know, the body of Christ is that way, you know, but they try to make it something it's not. You know, you don't have to sweeten up the gift of salvation and God's love with a lot of whiz-bang, you know, it's enough whiz-bang as it stands. Yeah, seriously, I mean, how can you get any more radical than, you know, the tenets and the faith and the perseverance of the message

of Jesus Christ? I mean, you live that out honestly, you'll see some radical living. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, that's the truth of it too. I mean, if you are honestly trying to follow Christ, you will see a radical change in yourself that you didn't even think was possible and you'll wonder, you know, even six months down the road, you'll look back and go, who was that guy? Who was that guy I used to be? Well, and you don't even, once you're there, you don't even recognize whether you're counter-cultural or not. Take Mohair Baptist, man. You know what I'm saying? John's trolling around doing all kinds of weird stuff. He doesn't know any different. No. Like,

he looks at the culture, he doesn't look and say, oh, he says, I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing. This is how I'm going to live. How the culture perceives that is not on my radar anymore. And that's not saying that as a church, we don't have to recognize where our culture is at because frankly… We still have to be culturally relevant. Well, it's the same thing as like, if you don't know where the culture is at and you don't know where the culture has fallen, you don't know how to address the culture. It's the same justification for the Old Testament rules. I mean, you don't know that you're disobeying God until he gives you rules to show you how far you've disobeyed him so that you know you need the…

You're like, oh, I didn't do that. You know, whoops. Yeah, exactly. So we need to be able to assess the culture and I think as a church, it's foolish to be… to hold back and not move with certain things like music, for example. Like if we decided we're not going to move out of the 30s with the tunes because for some reason we believe Christ loved the 30s. I'm not giving up the banjo. We need a harp and a tambourine and that's all we need. I always find it funny when people criticize some types of music that the church has nowadays as if the organ was around

when Christ was living. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. It wasn't there when he was walking the earth. Right, it was a guy playing a sheepskin and a mallet and now look where worship came to an organ and then those same people with the sheepskin and mallet are going, what is this terrible? I can't believe the Lord would never approve of this. And so now we go, you know, whatever, 80 years later now we got distorted guitars and a drum set and people are like, this is terrible, Jesus is not in this music. On that note, I have to make a case for the hipster church now. Okay, go. They're doing some things right.

I went to go see As I Lay Dying and Demon Hunter a while back here in Des Moines and for those of you who don't know, they're both huge Christian metal bands. The majority of the people there were full of tattoos, had huge gauge ears, you know, stuff like that. And I talked to a bunch of people on that show and they all told me the same thing. Yeah, I'd go to church but nobody wants me. And you know, that's not right. That's not genuine faith. That's not a church living out genuine faith. Right. So you're actually talking about, we're talking about three different body of believers here. One, we're talking about the hipster church which softens the faith

to get people in. We're talking about an old… Accepting church. Right, and accept it. We're talking about the other end of that spectrum which is the church that is so stuck in their own holiness that they don't leave room for anyone else to come in. The church of the 99, the 99 sheep that were together and pinned up together. That's it. Yeah, we're fine. There's no flock to straight. We can't have one more coming in. You know, we're serving Christ here. We only care about us. You know, and then you're missing the true body of believers that doesn't care, you know, what this guy looks like, what music he plays

or what he's got going on. And so there, I mean, so there's three distinct possibilities there which you don't have to necessarily fall into either one of the, you know, ends of the spectrum to be the accepting church. The accepting church looks the same whether you go to church in a 1920s farmhouse or you hold church service inside a school building. Well, but I guess in that example, almost, I think the cleanest way to think of it is again, the church should be, if the church doesn't recognize the culture, they don't recognize the distinction between the guy with the tattoos and the pious jean skirt lady.

You know what I'm saying? Like, I mean, if there's not a difference, you don't look out and say, that guy is different. He's a different culture than me. He's of the world. Like, you know, if you're not making that distinction because you're looking at, you're looking at their heart and frankly, you're looking at opportunity. This is one of the things that I was thinking about this week is how does God see us and then from there, how do we then see other people and are we doing, are we doing Christ's justice on how we look at his people because we get, you can run into people who end up being judgmental

or, I don't buy it, it's probably the right word, but anyway, I think a lot of it derives from how we look at people. Like, do you see somebody who's living a terrible life, frankly? I mean, they're living it, they're, whatever, they're sleeping around, they're, what's the stuff from the lady from the Dear Abby column? Oh, they're fat. Yeah, they're fat. Well, they're whatever, right? You'll have to check out the Dear Abby column advice that we got last week. So they're living a lifestyle that's inconsistent

with what Christ has asked you for. Do you look at that person and do you assess how many things have done wrong and how they're living their life incorrectly or do you see them with eyes for grace, right? Do you see that person and think, there's a lot of opportunity for grace there? Right. How can we get in on that? be shown through you. Exactly. You know what I'm saying? Because I think if we look, it's not wrong to assess the situation. Like we have, in fact, within the Christian responsibility, we have responsibility within each other to hold each other accountable, provide direction.

You know, that's a responsibility we have. But outside of that circle, we should be seeing opportunity for Christ's grace, not opportunity to evaluate, you know, what that looks like compared to me. Well, and that's the exact same that we talked about in that article last week or an opportunity to elevate yourself above this person, you know, and stand on your own holy ground. You know, like you consecrated yourself. Yeah, yeah. You know, and we run into that too and, you know, you know, some of that's just part of our fallen world. You know,

sometimes part of the sin that we walked into. I can't help myself from doing that half the time. I don't open my mouth about it. You know, I know I shouldn't have done it but I'll look at some guy and go, you gotta be kidding me, dude. In fact, I found this exact quandary going, me and the wife went to Red Lobster this week. It was her birthday and so we went out, you know, to dinner and it was awesome but I was standing, there's two double doors at the Red Lobster and they have windows on them, you know. Well, it's crowded in the Red Lobster so I'm standing in front of one and people keep coming in the other and keep coming in the other and then about 10 minutes later

it shifts for some reason. Everyone wants to come in the door that I'm standing in front of and so it happened and that happened again and now I'm getting irritated like, there's a window here. I'm obviously standing here. There's obviously not someone standing over here. Why do you keep coming in this door? So now I'm completely irritated with people. You know, like really irritated and I think, ha ha, this is kind of a funny situation and then I think, I really am mad at these people. Like I'm really starting to get actually irritated. Yeah. This seems like a simple situation. There's no one over there going to the door and I think, I'm not, it sounds kind of lame but I honestly, in that moment I thought,

I'm not looking at these people at all how God looks at these people. You know, and it's a simple, stupid, you know, evaluation of the situation but I honestly thought, I'm not looking at these people at all how Christ sees them. Like, you know, I'm looking at a particular funny ha ha, you know, situation or whatever but I think, you know, like I have no idea anything about these people. I didn't think one second about what they got going, what their relationship with Christ could be. They were just an irritation to you. Yeah, yeah, and I thought, you know, I'm not living right. This ain't the way I want to be.

You know, this is not the way I want to live my life and I just want, I want my first thought not to be, what's wrong with you? Why don't you go in the other door? The disciples brought children to Jesus. He kicked them and said, I don't have time for you. Right. Yeah, that's how it went now. Something like that. No, no, that wasn't, no. No, no. Sorry. I always mess that up. Yes, yes, you do. We just read that. That's a mistake. We just read that

in the Little Children's Bible. Did you? It was an excellent story. My daughter couldn't get past the fact that one of the kids was touching Jesus' beard. It was an illustrated version and the kid was touching his beard and Grace kept saying, Jesus lets kids touch his beard. I said, well, I'm sure he does. I can't wait until I get to heaven and I can't touch the beard. There's a funny tie-in with that too. A couple, I think it was last week we read the story how they were in the boat and the storm was coming and Jesus was sleeping and they wake him up and they're all freaking out and Jesus goes, be still. So we go out shopping to the store and it's raining and windy and my three-year-old daughter

gets out of the car and goes, be still. And then she says, I can't do it. Only Jesus can do it. I said, you're right. Only Jesus can do it. She goes, well, you think he can come down? I said, well, he might be busy doing something else but we'll talk to him about it later. We'll pray on it. I thought, well, at least she's paying attention to the story. So it's pretty solid. Yeah, she's thinking it through. Yeah, at least she gets it and she wants to touch Jesus' beard. I'm like, I want to touch Jesus' beard.

This sounds awesome. Why not? Faith like a child. That's what she thinks about. I'm like, that really is pretty cool. You know, real quick, things that I was reading through this week was how God sees people in C4 kind of measuring up. If you look at 1 Peter 2, 9, it says, but you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. So, to God, we are acceptable, right? We are acceptable in his eyes. We're chosen people, holy nation,

God's special possession, are the people that we interact with acceptable to us. No. I'm pretty inconsistent. For shame. I'm pretty inconsistent. And Luke 12, 24, it says, consider the ravens, they do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn, yet God feeds them and how much more valuable you are than birds. So, to God, we're valuable. Are the people around us valuable to me? Do I treat them as if they're valuable, acceptable and valuable? We tend to only treat them valuable when we have something to value from them. Exactly. If I have nothing to gain, then, you know.

Number two, in a warm spot by a closed door. And then Isaiah 43, 4 says, since you are precious and honored in my sight and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life. To God, we are precious and honored and loved to the people around us. Do I treat them as precious and honored in love? Stuff to work on this week, man. Just something to think and pray about. If we are acceptable to God, we are valuable to God, and we are precious and honored in love, do we think of the people around us in the same way? Are they acceptable to us? Are they valuable to us? Are they precious and honored in love?

I'm pretty sure there's a gap. I wish I wouldn't have told that Red Lobster story. I came off as a real jerk. And sometimes you just have to adjust your thinking to how does Christ view this person, especially that person who's really ultra-annoying or the person, I don't know why I looked at you and I said, you're like, what would I do? That is a common reaction. Nothing, nothing. But you know what I'm saying, that person who's really annoying, the person who drives you crazy, the person who's like, man, I can't stand this person. And sometimes you just have to remember it's really not about me. You know, how does God be that person who loves him enough to die for him? You know, and that's a discipline. You have to keep reminding yourself of that. And there's great examples

of how Christ does deal with irritating people. You know, can you imagine when Christ is walking around, people are tugging at him all the time, bothering him, yelling at him, and he says, well, come on, let's go. You know, you stop tugging at me if you want, but come on, let's go. You know, we invite him and then they got real irritating so he got in a boat and left him on the shore. He said, okay, you guys stay there for a minute. I've got enough of you. We'll chill out on this boat. Quit touching my beard. Who keeps bringing these beard-touching kids? Mike, are you ready?

I'm ready. What are we doing? Are you ready for the fastest-growing game show and Christian internet radio? Oh, boy. Boy, howdy. You're ready for Name That Tune, Heaven Edition. How many do we have? Welcome to Name That Tune, Heaven Edition. Just to replay the rules, here's what I'm going to do. Get your pencils. You're going to need some pens and stuff. There's one point for the artist, one point for the title of the song when we add them all up at the end. The winner gets a free life from the path t-shirt after a $50 surcharge in which you have to pay me beforehand so I can wear the shirt.

I rock at this, by the way. Maybe he should be our PR guy. Dan is fantastic in this game. So, Mike, Mike, without seeing the tunes, what do you guess your points are going to be at the end? Okay, how many total songs you got there? 15, so 30 points possible. Boy, you said it might be kind of a bloodbath. I'm going to shoot for 15. I can usually get one or the other. I can usually get the song or artist out of every single one. Okay. Hey, don't look. They're titled. Well, I wasn't really looking. I thought you were doing something. You keep your eyes to the other side.

All right. Here we go. Name that tune. All right. Heaven edition. You guys ready? Eyes wide open. You guys ready? Okay, here we go. Here's clip number one. That was it? There it is again. Hold on. I'm going to give it to you one more time. Here we go. Clip number one. Hold on. Let me turn the speaker up. I want to look. Angels. All right. That was number one. Angels we have heard on high. Good guess. Ready for number two? Number two. What was that? Here we go. Here we go. Number two. Oh, I know.

Okay. I got that one. Did you come up for it? I got nothing. I'm horrible. I know that one. It's on a commercial. A bit much. Okay, that was number two? Yeah, that's on a commercial. Okay. Hey, no. Hey. No putting them in the chat. Oh, yeah. Put them in the chat so I can not cheat. Okay. We're ready? Okay. Number three. Angels. Oh, come on, man. Here we go. These are impossible. Angels. This might not be a growing game show. I don't know. You have a great rise and fall. Angels. You should be able to get this one. Mike. One more time.

Okay. Number three. Angels. Man, these are impossible. I think I know the artist. Do you? I think so. All right. That's the way to do it. Okay. Number four. Here we go. Ooh, okay. I know that one. One more time on number four. This would be a popular country artist. Barney. I don't know it. Number five. That was Barney. It wasn't even discernible as the word angel. Number five. Okay. Ooh, I know that one. Yeah? Yeah, do it. Okay, number five. One more time. Yeah, I know that one. Okay? Okay. I told you.

I told you, man. It's going to be bloodbath night. These are tough. This is ridiculous. There we go. We're going to start listening to clips. Here we go. Number six. Hold on. Number six. Here we go. Angel. Ooh, I know that one. I recognize it. Yeah. One more time. Number six. Angel. Can we give a hint? Yeah. So he, well, I don't even know of a good hint. He was married to a supermodel, the guy who sang it. For my time. That really narrows it down. Yeah. Those rock star. Here we go. Number seven. Number seven. Bane Jew. Huh? Boys?

You boys on that one? I know that one. All right. Okay. Number seven. That's a good one. Bane Jew. That would be a popular 90s alternative rock group. Yeah. Okay. I got high hopes for this one. This is number eight. Number eight. I dropped out of the 90s. Okay. You guys know that one? No. Probably. Number eight. Here we go. Sounds familiar. Yeah, it does. Isn't that? Oh, man. What is that? The band might have a birdish name to it. A birdish name. A car. A car. Here we go. Number nine. Number nine.

Here we go. Number nine. This one's an old school 50s, I believe. Number nine. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know this one, yeah. It also would have been popularized on a certain 80s movie starring Michael J. Fox. It's also cooked by a Christian rock group. Awesome. Here we go. Number 10. Number 10. Here we go. Number 10. That's it? Yeah. Hold on. Here we go. One more time on number 10. That one's impossible. Oh, no. You could have done that one. Is it John Cougar Villancamp? No. Okay, I don't know what this is. Okay, here we go. Number 11? Number 11. Angels. Okay, number 11. Angels. Ooh.

Can you slow it down a bit? Can you include any more of the song? You go number 11? Angels. I don't know. Oh, come on. The hint on this one is it was recorded via MTV Unplugged. Oh. The album. Okay, go ahead one more time. Oh, okay. I'm with you. Yep. Okay. Here we go. I think I know the group and the song. I think I know the group and the song artist. That's number 12? One more time. Number 12. Okay. Backstreet Boys. That one's from the 80s. Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Here we go. 13? 13. Number 13. Here we go. Okay. Number 13. Ooh, that's also a popular rock group from the 90s and today.

One of the guys that played on this particular song had also played on that Unplugged song we talk about. Oh, yeah. I got it. I got it. Okay, that way. You go 13? I don't. That's a good one. I'm hearing it now. Okay. Here we go. 14. 14. Here we go. Hold on. Hold on. Here we go. Do you really? Awesome. Okay. The hint for that last one is American Idol. Yes. Yeah. Good hint. Okay. Yep. Okay. Here we go. Last one. Number 13. Never watched it.

Hold on. Listen. Okay, I know that one. Chevy Chase was in the music video, I believe. Also an 80s tune. Chevy Chase? Yeah. No. Yeah. Yeah, he was. Yeah, it was a… You can call me Barnes. There's the hint. I spent all my time reading the Bible and praying. Oh! Okay. All right, so… Horrible attribute. The clip for number one… Mike, you're up to 90s. Okay, the clip for number one was… Angels. Anybody have any guesses? Anybody have any guesses for that? Barney. Do it one more time. Okay. Until you've been beside a man, you don't know what he wants. Bob Seger. I recognize it. Is it Shame on the Moon? Don't know if you're rising.

Blame it on me. This is a good tune. A bummer. Okay. Bob Seger's Shame on the Moon was number one. Yeah, it was close. Number two. The clip for number two was… Okay, I think you got this. I know this one. Go ahead. It's… Commercial Lady. Yeah, In the Arms of the Angels by Sarah McLaughlin. There you go. Correct. Correct. Don't ask me why I know one. It's really girly and I'm embarrassed to know it. No, it's okay. But I do know it. Number three? Number three. The clip for number three? Angels. You said you thought you had the artist? I thought I did, but now I'm… Angels. Mike, do you know what it is? Is it Ricky Nelson? No. It sounded like Johnny Cash to me at first.

Yeah. It's Johnny Cash. It's Johnny Cash? Yeah. Okay. Oh. There's a man… With a man comes around. Taking names. Johnny Cash, indeed. And he decides… Very good. What number are we on? Number four? Number four. This one is by the Dixie Chicks. And it's a cover of a Fleetwood Mac tune, I believe. But it's Sweet Dreams. I'm impressed. It's the name of the song. Godspeed. Godspeed. Excuse me. No, I'm not impressed. No longer. I'll weep if you leave this one playing. I will weep. All right. So here's the one that was next to Impossible. Okay. Number six was the next to Impossible. All right.

Number five. Number five. Next to Impossible. This is Ricky Nelson. No. I know this. It's Elvis. It's Elvis Presley. It's John Mayer. It's John Mayer? No. I wouldn't even call it by John Mayer. Oh, yeah. That one was tough. Great times. That one was tough. That was tough. Here we go. This is… Okay. Billy Joel. So this… Dan. That's what I wrote down. Hey, that's a point for Dan. That's the first thing I wrote down. Nice job, Dan. We're tied now. Angel. I know that one. Billy Joel. Yeah.

I can hear that now. Do you know the song? It's Lullaby. It's the name of the song. Yep. It's Lullaby by Billy Joel. Also a good Putting the Kids to Sleep tune. Plus one out of twelve. Good job, Daniel. So what are we at on eight? Number seven. Number seven. Eight. Angel. Oh, I know this one. Okay, what is it? It's Chili Peppers Under the Bridge. It is Chili Peppers Under the Bridge. Nice. Yeah. Dan, where are we at on that one? Chili Peppers. A blank. With a blank. A very popular tune. Still, to this day, popular. We're going to number eight. Number eight. You guys still, did you get anything on this one? Yeah. It's really funny. What do you got?

The artist is the Black Crows. And it's, yeah. And the song is called She Talks to Angel. Heard that one, Dan? No. They play this on a lot of soundtracks. When ladies are busting out of the scene, doing a new independent type thing. It's popular. Here we go. Yeah. Heard that one. Heard that one. Do you know the artist? Oh, man. It's, I should know this. I know it was covered by a tooth and nail artist, Fishhook. Billy Idol? I don't know. It's actually probably an oddball 50s artist. Yeah, it's like an old timer. It was done by the Platters and the Penguins. And that particular clip is from Marvin Berry and the Starlights from the Back to the Future. Back to the Future song. Yeah. That's a good one. Here we go. Number 10. That's John Cougar Mellencamp, definitely. Angel John Cougar. Oh! The Jay Giles band. Angel of the Centipede.

I wasn't allowed to listen to this one. Number 11. Number 11. Yeah. Yeah, it's Nirvana from Nirvana Unplugged. In fact, I believe it's a cover of a Meat Puppet's tooth. Lake of Fire is the main other two. Number 12. 12. City of Angels. Yeah. City of the Angels. Bye. Dan rolls at another point. I can't read my own writing. I have no clue. It sticks. That's what I wrote down. I think it's… That's not bad. No, that's a good guess. I think it's Journey. Oh, really? Yeah. Yeah. City of the Angels by Journey. I got two. Two points. Here we go. That would be the Foo Fighters. It is the Foo Fighters. You know what's the name of the song?

Oh. I believe it was Learn to Fly. I got one. It's Learn to Fly by the Foo Fighters. Number 13. It's definitely. Yeah, yeah, what's 13? Here's 14. 14. Angel. I saw an angel. You're beautiful. That's the other word it is? Yeah. It's James Blunt. Yeah, James Blunt. That's a popular one nowadays, Dan. You should groove for this one. Kids love it. That's why your church is not him. I saw an angel. That's why people have real relationships with Christ at your place. We just like handles. Half of these songs have been covered by Weird Al. It's true. Final one. Last one. It's a boom, boom. Angels in the arc. I can call you Betty. Betty, when you call me. It's Phil Paul Simon.

A man walks down the street. He says one currency. He is a four-man. I don't have 45 bucks. Oh. Well, that's a pretty good thing. We're going to have to hang out for this one. I got two points. This is where it breaks into the big section. Supportive Wife had 12 points. Did you really? Congratulations. That's pretty good. Where's the other big part? I don't think I had power to six. It's coming up, buddy. Hold on. You can do a fake slap bass. Here we go. Yeah. Look for all the bass players. Colin beat me with three points. Oh, man. That was tough. That was tough. That was two points. I think we're going to do two weeks from now, I think we're going to do Faith. We're going to do Name That Two in Heaven Edition. We're going to have to give it some more time to recover from this action. Seriously, the last two we did. So, Jesus Edition went great. Yeah.

That one went all right. It's been a bloodbath on the Heaven Edition. We did Heaven. And Angels. Yeah. We had Jesse Anderson in here, and we did Heaven, and it just bombed. Yeah. It bombed. And then the Angels went just about the same. Yeah, boy. It's a tough game. It is a tough game. It may not be the fastest growing. It might be falling. It's the fastest growing. It started slow. It's a slow, steady growth. You've been listening to Live from the Path, broadcasting live from livefromthepath.org. We are broadcasting every Monday from 10 to midnight to keep the kids up. Jesus says it's okay to listen to Live from the Path. If you don't stay up, that's totally cool, except if it's not. But you can catch the repeat of the show. The archive, or the show from the very last week will always be on the front of livefromthepath.org up until about a couple hours before the fresh broadcast. So, you can catch that there. There's also a link at the top of the website to click for archive shows. You can watch all the archive live from the Path shows. Also, because I know it's a long time to sit and listen at once, you can sign up for the podcast. You can catch the show whenever, however you want to. Listen to the iPad, iPod, either one. Things with the I in it. Yeah, all those I things.

Monocle emu. Do what you got to do. The performance is… What? Monocle emu. Hello. Hello. Hello. Also, comedy's flying. Also, just a reminder, starting this coming Sunday, Live from the Path will be broadcasting on Praise 940, the first Sunday of every month at 5 p.m. So, you can catch us then. It'll be all the greatest hits of Live from the Path. Maybe name that tune will make it, maybe not. Maybe it will not. We got to fill a whole hour. It's a whole hour. Yeah, and we got to thank the guys from Moving Iowa, the radio show, J.C. Walker and Luke Landis, who are donating the time on our behalf to broadcast the show. Yep. And so, you know, if you have any real estate needs, you can definitely talk to J.C. Walker with iRealty, or you can talk to Luke Landis with Heartland Mortgage Group for any type of… Do they rent houses? I got to get someone who's moving to town who wants to rent a house. Well, can't they stay with you for a while? I think their family's too large. He's actually moving to town in June.

They're a… Dude in his residence, he's a surgeon. Okay. I'm going to see if he might help me out. Look at what he said. You know what? Go right ahead. So, yeah. So, anyway, I'd like to just say thank you to those fellas for getting us the time and allowing us to broadcast. So, that's really cool. So, if you can catch that, though… Yeah, what did you say? 5 o'clock, 940? 5 p.m., first Sunday of every month on Praise 940. Yeah, so that's going to be really hip. Yeah. So, once again, you guys have a show coming up this Sunday, correct? Yep. And that would be at 6 o'clock? Yes, indeed. At the Freedom Church? House of Freedom. House of Freedom? Is it big? Yeah, we could probably fit 125 people in there. Oh. So, I expect to turn people away at the door. Right. I'll pay for you to get in. Except for we're full. Get out of here.

Not you. I don't even like you. Here, take my pop can. Daniel. Pop can. At least he doesn't chew, right? That better not be the grizzly. I've lost control of this train. I haven't always lived for the Lord. I had some time in my days. The grizz. Okay, so anyway. Is that all we had to cover tonight? Was the… The show's not over. I made it sound like the show was over. Like, I didn't intend to do that. We've got another like… Thanks for winding things down. 13 and 14 minutes. People are ready to get out. They're like, yeah, great show. We're out of here. It's freaking terrible. Stayed up for this. Actually, it is widely known that if you're… Unless you want to stay for the whole thing, it's better not to watch it all because it is kind of addicting. Yeah. It's weird. There's absolutely nothing going on here for two hours, but you can't take your eyes off of it.

You're like, something's going to happen. It's kind of a car wreck type thing. You're like, they're going to say something. Like watching Jerry Springer. Yeah. It's very much like that. And something… There's our car wreck. I've heard someone say that they can tell that it smells in here by watching it. And I don't know what they mean by that. Did my wife say that? No, I don't know. Someone said it. Oh. That's because Tyler was on. Oh, Tyler. Oh, yeah. I don't think that was in reference to the stink thing. I think… That's an armpit thing. Here's the deal. Me and Tyler are like the best friends ever. I don't know if he can feel it, but I can totally feel it. There's like an energy between us. It was that French-to-beck sight. Yeah. It was the first sight. Here's the base claim. I'm going to… Yeah. We're yoked together. We're going to go into business.

And share holidays. Yeah. And if I didn't have two girls for kids, I would totally call him Tyler. Because we're close like that. You're going to be Ty. You're going to be Lur. Luckily. We're both in trouble. Or he's calling his friend Tyler. So am I coming to your house for Christmas? Yeah, absolutely. But you have to name your children Lollipop. And don't ask me any more questions about it. But that's what you're going to do. Yeah, they want to know. All of them. We've got 15 minutes. Hold on. I'm tired of you pushing me away. Tell me the truth. It is kind of fun. So we got anything biggity old church-a-rooney coming up? When's the prayer room coming up? April 10th. Is when it starts? Through the 24th. Is it here? On the 10th? Starting here? It starts here on the 10th. Ends on Easter. I don't know what time they're starting it.

So probably the afternoon issue or something. Hey, if you guys want to do something really cool, 24-7 prayers. It's happening. Actually, they're going to expand it into that area now, too. Light all the walls. Because we kind of hemorrhaged this room out. Yeah, we kind of stole it. We will be airing live from the path, from the prayer room, for two of those weeks. So the basic setup here is twice a year, we do a 24-7 prayer room for two weeks straight, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, two weeks. There's someone in here praying. And there's a lot of stuff going on. There's music that you can listen to. There's paper that lines all the walls so that people can write things that they're praying for, praying about, stuff that's on their heart, whatever. And it's a pretty cool thing for the church as a whole to just be doing some solid prayer for two weeks straight. It's really very cool. I was trying to think, last time we had it, I took, Dan had a number of really large blocks. But there's something, like when you start, it seems like, can I, because you sign it for hour blocks, you think, man, can I take a full hour praying? I don't know if I can do that. That's a long time. And an hour is a long time. But, I mean, it really, it really just flies by. It breezes by. It really does. With all the stuff on the walls, you can walk around and look and see what's on everyone else's heart and what they're looking for and kind of what God's doing for them and what they're looking to get from God and stuff you can pray for. And you'll spend, I mean, you'll spend half an hour praying on everyone else's behalf before you even start to get to your own needs, which is really cool because, you know,

I probably say I'll pray for three things a day and I'll remember one of them at the end of the night. And that's why I just stopped promising to pray for all kinds of stuff all the time. But, like, when I get in the prayer room, I don't know, like, I was intimidated by it when we first had it and then I started signing up for it. And, man, once I had one hour, I'm like, well, one hour wasn't near enough. I've got to come back in here. I've got some stuff to work on. I've got a center of my life to get back to where it needs to go. I've got some other people to pray for. I've got to figure out what God's got going for me anyway and, you know, what he wants me to do. So the prayer room is a really cool thing. And so if anybody out there would like to get involved with it, what do you say it starts the 10th of April again? The 10th of April. Now, in conjunction with that, we're going to be going to the National Atheist Convention. We are. Which is right in there doing a prayer room on site. That'll be cool. Yeah, we're going to do that one incognito. Yeah. Yeah, they won't know what we're just going to be quietly praying that the God of the universe implodes all of their false thinking. And you guys could be playing songs. They'll come to Jesus. There we go. Yeah. I'm actually pretty excited about both the prayer room and the atheist convention. We talked about this a couple months back. But with the atheist convention in town, it's just like what we were talking about, about looking at people, you know, with God's grace in mind. You know, like, I mean, they're irritating at the least, you know, when they take everything, most of the time, everything we believe in, and smash into smithereens and call us ridiculous. But, you know, Jesus already said that was going to happen. So it shouldn't be a big shocker, and it shouldn't be a big letdown, and it shouldn't cause you to look at them any different.

You know, there's plenty of room for God's grace there. Yeah. And instead of the confrontation and the billboards. Which is not going to get you anywhere. No. The protest. You know, the theological battles and sending a smart guy against a smart guy. You know, we can't do anything better than to sit God of the universe on them, and we can do that best by praying for them. Yeah. And they happen to be in Des Moines, April 21 through 24. Yeah. And so… The National Atheist Convention. And we'll be… Yeah, so we're going to be opening that up to anybody who wants to come out and pray. We're just going to put the prayer on them. We're not going to let them over there. We're not going to talk to them. You know, unless they engage us on purpose, so… What are the rooms? The rooms are sold out. I never got a room. Oh, no. You've got to be kidding me, Daniel. I never had any money. I was like, well, I've got to be able to get some money. Maybe that just means their block is sold out. I bet we can. Okay, we're going to talk about this Atheist Convention later, I guess. If we have to go to the Four Seasons across the street, it's going to be quite embarrassing. Or a Kaibo or something. A Kaibo.

Sing that Satan song again. Oh, man. Can you change the words? We're going to get a room. Yeah, so anyway, the Atheist thing and then the 24-7 prayer room. We're still going to have the show during the prayer room, but the deal is that we're not going to disrupt the prayer room with it, so someone has to be in here praying. The Live from the Path guys, we are going to take prayer room spots probably prior. We'd love to have bands come in and maybe take an hour before they come in and play to do the prayer room and just see what it's about and kind of experience what God's got going. So, you know, if that's something that you're interested in or if we can get you plugged into, you know, to stop by a prayer room or you think you like the premise and like to set it up at your own body of Christ, you know, let us know. Email us. Give us a call or whatever. You know, we'll most certainly tell you what we've done. It's not the right or wrong way. It's just how we've got it going. And it'll change your church. It'll get them moving. A praying church is God's church and you can't find God's will any faster than to have a good relationship with Him and you do that through prayer. And so the 24-7 prayer room is just a really awesome and powerful time for us. So I'm pretty pumped about it. Yeah, I'm pretty excited about it. Plus we have like free grape juice and stuff that you can drink if you get hungry. I believe that's the communion. Mike, have you been using it as a juice film? Have you felt sleepy lately? Like maybe you're going to die. Maybe a week. Is that a Corinthians 12?

Where is that? Bring your own soda or something. You know, don't know. There's water and stuff. And there's like, there's some energy bars or whatever. Keep you jazzed up. There's children's fruit boxes in there. Because someone's got to take the, because if you think of it, it's 24 hours a day. Someone's taking the anywhere between 10 p.m. to the 7 a.m. shift. Sometimes you show up here at 2 o'clock, you're doing a 2 to 4 a.m. You've got to have something in there. Keep you livin' up. I love the two. I love the late nights. Those are awesome. You actually wake up to do it. Yeah. That's my favorite one. I like to come in about 1 or 2 o'clock and then stay an hour, stay a couple hours and get up and go to work the next day. I don't know. It's shake you up. Get you out of your normal, everyday humdrum. There's nothing like it. Everybody says, well, we can just do that at home. It's like, yeah, you could. Yeah, but you don't. You know, I don't. Yeah, that's true. You don't. There's something. Yeah.

I mean, there's just something here. We line the walls with paper and it's all the graffiti walls and stuff. And instruments, you can come and just worship. Sometimes I just come and just worship an hour, you know, and write songs. Yeah. I don't write songs. I remember the last time I was here, I was praying. I had like a long slot and I prayed for a while and then I just picked up the Bible and I read. And you remember when I got all on fire about that psalm? Yeah, God is for me. God is for me. Boy, I got jazzed about it. And it was because I read it during the prayer room. And there's nothing. Here's the deal. There's nothing like being all jazzed up about something. At 3.30 in the morning, there's no one around to talk to about it. Yeah, I got to hold it in until like the show comes up to talk about it later. I'm like, God is for me. And I'm looking around and I'm just talking to myself. Yeah. Anyway, I'm jazzed about it. I'm pretty excited about that prayer room. Yeah. It's going to be pretty sweet. Cool. Yeah, that reminds me. So we said that On This Rock is at Jam and Java on Friday. Syndrome of Fire is playing at the 504 Club Thursday. It's a 21 and over show and starts at 10 o'clock. Okay. And that's this coming Thursday. Okay. So before I forgot about that. No, no, no. That's awesome. Yeah. And then you guys are heading up on Sunday at the House of Freedom in Ames. Whereabouts is it? What's the address? Any idea? It's like 2202. It's on Lincoln Way. It's like right where Lincoln Way meets Highway 30. Okay. Okay. Yeah, so bus start on Lincoln Way.

You'll find it. They'll come right here. Big sign that says Hendrix right by the turn. Can't really miss it. Yeah, Hendrix sign. That sounds awesome. I won't miss it. There's no way I'll miss it. I'm a landmark guy. Can I make one last plug? Yeah, go ahead. We're in the studio with Phil Bierman at Cornstalk Productions. We're finishing up our song Rescue, which we are going to be finally putting out a good quality recording of. And that's going to be a free download through our Facebook page within a couple of weeks. Cool. So keep your eyes open for that. Cool, yeah. It should be fun. Yeah. Keep your eyes wide open. Hey, what's the official tally on how many shameless plugs we've done tonight? I could do a couple more. I bought this t-shirt at JC Penney's. That's jcpenney's.com. They do doorbuster sales. That's where I come in. What? Are you going to call them? Are you going to call them? Critic? You want to give them a buzz? It's a Cornstalk production.

You can find them on the Facebook, Cornstalk Productions LLC. Is that right, Dan? Remember to look it up earlier? Yeah. Yeah, something like that. Anyway, we should go down there. Let's go talk to them. Let's do it. Yeah. I don't know what we're going to do down there. Hang out. Go to the chapel area. Go to the chapel area. Go to the chapel area. Go to the chapel area. We don't need that guy. Oh, yeah. We're going in. Okay, we're going in. We're heading in. We're coming, Beerman. You better arm the mics. We're heading in. Man, they're dropping like flies. Where are you going? Come back. I'll admit that was a mistake. All right. Oh, okay. You listen live from the path. We're going to go ahead. Mike's going to talk to you.

Yeah. Dig it. So, let's see. The atheists got it. No room in the inn got it. Boy, that's poetical. There's no room at the inn. There is. We have to prepay it all. Oh. It's just not through the atheist people. Oh, okay. So, we'll have our own. We can get our own room. I just got to find money. All right. All right. And we're heading out. Thanks so much for listening. This has been Live from the Path with Eyes Wide Open. Make sure to check them out on their Facebook. Check out the show at livefromthepath.org.
