Segments

  • Show open and tonight's lineup 0:15–2:37
A host opens the show from Pathway Studios in Johnson Proper and lays out the night: continuing the walk-through of the '50 proofs God is imaginary' list (proof #44, 'think about a Christian housewife'), a question about the potential problem with an effective and humble pope, and Dear LFTP advice letters. The hosts joke about 43 of the proofs being disproven so far.
  • Phil Collins death hoax and a father's talk with his daughter 2:38–7:13
The hosts check a Phil Collins death rumor and find it is a hoax, riffing on celebrity death-hoax websites (including the running joke that Abe Vigoda is still alive). A host recounts his young daughter coming off the school bus crying after a classmate threatened to 'cut her in half,' and the parenting advice he settled on: if something sounds out of whack, hold your tongue, don't respond, and come talk to mom or dad. Discussion touches on teaching kids to take people at face value while developing a filter for lying.
  • Rebutting proof #44: the Christian housewife's mustard-stain prayer 7:13–15:48
The hosts read proof #44 from godisimaginary.com, which argues God is imaginary because believers pray trivial prayers — a Christian housewife in Pasadena who believes God removed a mustard stain from her blouse — while terrible suffering goes unanswered. The hosts counter from several angles: the author judges from a comfortable worldly perspective and does not know suffering the way the suffering do; God desires community, so there is nothing wrong with bringing anything to Him in prayer; the proof is a rehash of earlier ones and merely shows prayers are not answered the way the author expects.
  • Hard question: is there anything about God that embarrasses you? 15:49–34:03
A host-framed hard question: 'is there anything about God that embarrasses you?' Examples raised include the homosexuality debate (knowing what the Bible says but feeling embarrassed to tell someone living that lifestyle 'that's not the deal') and the Canaanite conquest in pursuit of the promised land. The discussion argues people 'apologize for God' on social issues while claiming to give Him all glory; that believers should not start sentences with 'I'm sorry' when communicating God's truth; that many people are scared to death to live without their sin, not merely clinging to it; and that love for people must include truth. The book of Job and Revelation's warning against lukewarmness are invoked near the close.
  • Proof #45 teaser: Noah's Ark 34:03–35:37
The hosts read the opening of godisimaginary.com proof #45, which asks readers to consider Noah's Ark and claims the flood story shows God 'senselessly murdered millions of humans and billions of animals.' They decide the proof has 'legs' and defer the full rebuttal to the following week's show, with one participant dubbed the show's 'resident Noah's Ark specialist.'
  • Ring the Bell movie giveaway promo 35:38–36:16
A promo: the show has free copies of the inspirational Christian film 'Ring the Bell' (featuring members of Casting Crowns, Mark David Chapman, Rick Sutcliffe, and John Crook) to give away — listeners can email or message the show on Facebook to get one.
  • The danger of a humble and effective pope 36:31–44:10
A host asks: what is the potential problem with an effective and humble pope? Noting the positive reaction to Pope Francis — humility, ground-level outreach, less hierarchy, action on abuse scandals — he argues the danger is not the pope's fault: if the strength of your faith depends on the goodness of a human being, it will always fail you, because every good man is also a sinful man who will fail. Supporting points: 'for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God'; faith rests on how good God is, not how good a man is; leaders are fallible and must be prayed for, and believers should filter leaders' words through Scripture rather than building faith on personalities. The block closes with comedy about inviting the pope on the show with Fritos.
  • Dear LFTP: the 14-year-old 'independent thinker' letter 44:11–48:53
Opening with the recurring 'Mike's Hour' comedy bit, the hosts read a letter from a 14-year-old girl upset that adults tell her to be an independent thinker and embrace herself, then put her down for not conforming. The hosts roast the letter as vague, lofty drivel that avoids specifics, then read the 'secular answer' (praising independent thinkers, noting Jesus was an independent thinker — 'not my will but yours, Father'). On parenting: one host's rule is 'my house, my rule — you're going to church' with the door open to choose once they move out; others note the letter hints at a Christian household where she may want to stop attending church.
  • Dear LFTP: am I dating a family member? 48:55–49:58
A listener writes that her sister and fiance Greg tried to set her up with their best man Bruce, and after the wedding she and Bruce started dating — her question: 'Am I dating a family member?' The hosts confirm Bruce, her brother-in-law's nephew, is not a blood relative at all and that dating him is fine, closing with 'great guys can make good husbands.'
  • Dear LFTP: the mother-in-law forging the father's name on cards 49:59–55:53
A letter from Troy: her husband fathered a child in high school who was placed for adoption; the husband has chosen not to be involved, but his mother (the mother-in-law) is close with the adoptive family, visits often, and sends the child gifts and cards signed with the biological father's name. The hosts call the behavior dishonest and out of line — it sets up false expectations for the child ('someone cared for me that didn't'), the son should represent himself, and the grandmother needs to stop and make it right. They read the 'secular answer' ('accept it, don't take it personally') and unanimously reject it as terrible advice.
  • Dear LFTP: what to say when the doctor asks if you drink 55:53–1:04:38
A listener who drinks about once a month asks what the correct response is when a doctor's office asks 'do you drink?' — afraid saying yes implies heavier drinking. The hosts riff: one host gets needled about being a smoker (another retorts 'I'm not like that Hoosier Mike'); a heavier participant talks about doctors prescribing based on weight and the judgmental stares at the scale; one shares having quit smoking over a year ago after losing 200+ pounds and now getting high-fives. The advice: just tell the truth — 'I had one last week; usually it's about once a month' — because doctors are trying to help your health, not trap you.
  • Awkward physical-exam stories 1:04:38–1:09:10
Past the radio broadcast and onto the podcast, the hosts trade stories about annual physicals: one describes an unexpectedly intimate exam ('the butt test,' a swab) and the awkwardness of being half-undressed; another recalls a sports physical as a junior-high kid with a woman doctor; another had an older doctor making knock-knock jokes through the exam; another's doctor told him to check himself in the shower once a month. Banter about colonoscopies at 50 and 'the check engine light' tape joke closes the block.
  • Sign-off and 449 show plug 1:09:07–1:09:54
The hosts wrap: apologize to podcast listeners ('you made a mistake for listening'), give the Monday-night live and Saturday 7pm 99.3 KTIA times, plug the upcoming 449 show on April 27 with tickets still available, and sign off with 'have a wonderful week.'

And you're listening to Live From The Path. We're coming to you from Pathway Studios here in Johnson Proper. I appreciate you hanging out with us tonight. It should be an awesome show. Here's going on in the show tonight. Wait a minute. You don't even know what's going on. Turn my microphone up, man. I have good things to say. Okay. I don't really. Go ahead. Tell me about the show. Alright. So here's what's going on tonight. We're trudging through our proofs from godisimaginary.com. If you go to godisimaginary.com, you'll see 50 proofs

from this guy that established that he believes God is imaginary. We've been walking through them. We're on number forty three? Forty four. 44. Yep. We need a different name than proof because we've disproved 43 of them so far. Well, that's he has more he has more opportunities. Well, I can't take away his he's done 50. I feel like it'd be just disingenuous to to say that we've taken care of everything. Right. Well, I'm just saying up to this point, they're not proofs. Can't you can't call them proof. Okay. Okay. They're they're 50

complaints. Oh, okay. So far, he's got 43 complaints about 50. Potential further proofs that God is imaginary. We're on proof number 44, which is think about a Christian housewife. I do every day. Me too. I feel like this is gonna get somebody into trouble. Probably, Buva. Pretty Most likely, now. Yes. Uh-huh. So so we'll walk through that proof. Also,

what's the prob what's the potential problem with an effective and humble pope? I thought of one today. Uh-oh. So we're gonna so we're gonna talk a little bit about that. There's a lot of good vibes about the about the pope and and and let me tell you this, I'll give you this off hand, we're not gonna have a Catholic discussion, right? That's not the issue. I don't wanna argue Catholicism. You The guy that just got real excited and spilled some of his, you know, decaf all over his arm because he thought we were gonna gang up on It's not gonna happen, alright? Calm down there, Jeff. That same kind of guy as the guy that would spill decaf on his arm? How do you have to be holding your coffee to do that? He's very, very excited. Good thing it's decaf. It's a it's a controlled like a woo hoo. It's on his wrist, I guess. I was made for this. Anyway Gonna bash the church.

Calm down, that's not what's gonna happen. But there's a potential problem, so, so we'll talk through that. Also some, some advice on Dear Life and the Path, the world is just not what it was even fifty years ago. And it's just not what it was fifteen minutes ago. That's what I'm saying. That's fair. Things change. I'm not the same guy I was. You know what I'm talking about moving. Hey, Did Phil Collins die? I I think it was a different Phil Collins. I saw that. I was gonna say I have not heard that. Is everybody checking it? Put the Google on it. Yeah. Yeah. Don't Here's the thing. I okay. So here's what happened today.

I don't I don't know quite how to have this this discussion with my daughter, but she she she popped off the bus. Right? And she was crying. My wife was retelling the story, and she said, tell your father what happened on the bus. Uh-oh. So I put on a dad face. Right? I'm like, what happened on And the she's like, well, someone said I had to do this and this and they said if I didn't do it, were gonna cut me in half. I'm like, woah. Holy cats. And and and and I said, well, seriously, I mean, they're not really gonna cut you in half but they they also have they also have a meteorite and my and and and this and this and this and I'm like, okay, hold on now. Hold on. I But this is kinda violent. This is this is hard because it's just they're just children, right? Right. Right. But, like, I've I've I've I've taught my my kids to take people at face value, right? And so they they haven't run into a rampant lying. Yeah. Yeah. You know? She hasn't learned how to put on that filter yet. Right. And so she doesn't have it. And so I I have to be careful not to say, look, you can't trust everybody. They or they might not be able to cut me in half. Because there's certainly, like, three or four people I need her to

humble herself to, like the teachers at school or the principal or the bus driver or the Sunday school teacher, whatever. Yeah, yeah. There's people that, besides me and my wife, that she needs to have an authority. But but, you know, I I can't give everybody the freedom because she freaks out, right? And so I I don't know, fellas, you know, I I I think what I ended up saying was, listen, if it sounds a little out of whack to you, hold your tongue, don't respond, just come talk to to your mom or I and we'll we'll we'll straighten it out. I said, but the people ultimately in charge, it goes God and then mom and dad and then the other people that mom and dad say are okay. If those people aren't on that list, don't worry about it. Am I on the list? No. Pastor Dan Hudson did not make it.

Not that she gives me the eye every time I walk in. It's not a direct omission, but here's the deal, she tends to use the word poop a lot, and I don't like to get her around, people that I hold in spiritual authority because I feel like I'd have to have a talk. I think that's fair. Yeah. I I don't know. Buu, what'd you come to? I I feel like Phil Collins is yet alive. Yeah. Phil Collins is alive, it says, on a plethora of websites that philcollinsisalive.com? You think that's funny. If you go to you guys know what Abe Bogota is? No. He's a he's a he's a

plane, boss. No. That's Herve Villachet. No. Sorry, don't know that either. So Ava Grosvenor's got big bushy eyebrows. He was in you remember the the the show the movie Look Who's Talking? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. He was grandpa. Oh, okay. That nurse stole my candy. Yeah.

Okay. So that's him, that's Abe Vagoda and that's that was like twenty years ago. And and so the constant rumor is that Abe Vagoda is dead. So if you go to abevagoda.com, he doesn't actually have a website. Someone bought the domain, and if you go there, it's just to check on whether he's alive or not. So, like, right now, says Ava Gota is alive. Page loaded Monday, April 15 two thousand thirteen, 08:07PM Pacific time. Reload page for update. So that if you reload, it updates the date and time that says, hey, but Yoda is alive at the top. That's awesome. That's That's cute. Yeah. It it looks like Phil Collins is alive. It was a death hoax. Yeah. Oh. Yep. Just some people, came up with a fake story about him dying in a car crash,

but, it's all been cleared out and he is Why so is that company? Do people, like, just have a lot of extra time? I'm not sure. Here's the thing, you gotta pick the right guy for that because if you pick some some guy too far in the limelight, people will instantly know it's not a hoax. It's a hoax, right? I saw him today. But then you pick a guy so obscure that it was like, so? You know? Bill Bill Collins, he's a he's if there's an A to D list celebrities, he's, like, between b b b minus and c. Who how about the guy that was the president in Independence Day? Pullman. Yeah. Bill Pullman. Yeah. What do think? You can pull up a Bill Pullman. That'd a b minus show. Yeah. You know, you'd be like, no kidding, Bill Pullman? And then you'd have to check it out. I feel like they've done a good job researching the right guy, but obviously, he's not legitimately

passed away. Alright. Wow. Anyway, you're listening to Live From The Path. You can check us out here every Monday night at 10:00 for the live show or Saturdays at 7PM on our Good Buddies at ninety nine point three KTI. Check out the live show. Sometimes there's a unicycle, sometimes there's not. Yeah. What are gonna do, Engel? Hey. Alright. So here's here's what let's look at this guy. Let's look at this proof. Alright. Proof number 44. Think about this guy's still alive. A Christian I think he is, but I'm I swear he's the guy behind the, Joel Osteen hoax from last week. That's right. We talked about the snarky language in the in the dismissal letter of It's Joel got a hoke of him The on hoax was a little more classy than what how he sent his website. I don't I don't know. I don't I think that's why he's not as sophisticated. I don't think you looked at it very well. Like, the the the press releases, the websites and stuff, I I feel like they reflect a man who put who put some time into it. Okay. But but the but the language, I mean, the language just totally smacks up there. Alright. Here we go. Take one moment to think about a typical Christian and her answered prayers.

For example, there is a Christian housewife in Pasadena who firmly believes that God answered her prayer this morning to remove the mustard stain from her favorite blouse. She prayed to God to help remove the stain and after she washed it, the stain was gone. Praise Jesus! There are tens of millions of true believers in The United States who know that God is personally helping them each day with their trivial prayers. They believe that they have a personal relationship with God, that God hears their prayers each day and that God has time to reach down and remove the mustard molecules one by one. Amen. They believe it with all of their hearts. Didn't realize mustard came in a molecule. Wait, have we done this one before, Phil? Everything's a molecule. They all sound alike. It's not no, but it's it's made up of molecules, but mustard is not is not a molecule. Dude has four complaints. Okay. Yeah. Sorry. It makes you wonder, colon, if God has the time and the will to answer these trivial prayers manipulating the mustard molecules in response to a housewife's prayer, then why is God ignoring the big, comma, important prayers? For example, why isn't he answering the prayers of the billions of people on this planet who are living in stark abject poverty? It is when you think about this simple question that you realize how imaginary God is and how delusional and completely self centered Christians can be. One obvious question that any rational person would ask is this, another colon, If an all powerful god is answering the housewife's prayer, why does she need to wash the shirt? Why not hang the stained wrinkled shirt in the closet and pray for god to clean and press it there? An all powerful god could just as easily remove the stain in the closet as he can in the washing sheet. The second obvious question is this, final colon, if God is removing the stain, then why doesn't our housewife pay for poverty to disappear too? Why doesn't she watch tomorrow as the world magically transforms itself into a poverty free utopia in the same way that her blouse became mustard free? Answered oh, whoops. Final colon. Because God is imaginary. What do think, fellas? I feel like he's got a strong point on that, why wash it, you know? If God's gonna clean the mustard seed, I guess we really don't need to wash it. I feel like I'm, I'm with him on that one. If, I suppose if that actually represented a person and their thought process,

yeah, maybe. But I mean Yeah. It it's there's a lot of assumptions here. First of all, praying woman in Pasadena. I I here's I could be wrong about this, alright, but I feel like of the housewives, Christian housewives in, say, the Pasadena area, most aren't staying home, most aren't spilling mustard on their blouse, and most will just buy a new one. That's correct. That's a gross generalization. Yeah. Yeah. Big assumptions out of my part. Yeah. I'm disgusted Okay. To start. So so first of all, he assumes, for example, that the Pasadena housewife isn't praying

for the relief of abject poverty. Object. Two, that god actually did remove a mustard stain. I I I I don't know. Of the stories I've heard and and shared with other folks of God's intervention, it hasn't been on the on the level of mustard stain removal. No. I feel like all purpose cheer does a pretty darn good job on its own. Yeah. Yeah. I feel like that's your detergent. You know, it you can you can accredit it to God going to, you know, God created the washing machine, God created the water, and everything like that. But I I you know, it's sad because I'm sure that To that logic, that's circular, because then you would say, God created the stain. Yeah. I suppose that's it there. That's true. Leave it alone. I suppose that's a good point.

You know, it makes me think to my myself that at this point in time, he I'm not doubting that there are people that pray this. You know? I mean, God They're selfish people, like you said. Right. Exactly. You know? I and and the whole and how imaginary God is and how delusional and completely self centered Christians can be. I agree with that entirely. I I don't disagree with you, guys imaginary.com guy. There are a lot, and we can be very easily become self centered Christians. I am.

Yeah. I am too. It's That hat Dan has on. It's that hat Dan has on. Exactly. It's fabulous. But when it comes down to it, it's just you know, I I don't see what his his proof is here. To be honest, it seems like this is another one of those that he's just Really? Be, you know, I here's the thing. I struggle answering this question because I'm not God. You know what I'm saying? Like, I I and and maybe that's, lack of, I don't know, understanding on my part, but he you know, when he says, why doesn't God, you know, if if he's all powerful, straighten out all poverty, stop all suffering, and then they'll realize who he is. Right? That seems to take the faith part out of it as far as I can see, but, like, when it comes to those answers, I always default because I don't I'm just not good at answering that question. I always say,

I don't know. He's sovereign and he's Lord. Don't know. He does what he wants. We talked about this, like, I don't know, in the last few weeks. He's already given us a solution. It's called the Bible. If we all followed it, there wouldn't be poverty, there wouldn't be all this stuff. Yeah. And so we're ignoring him. So what what, we wanna eat all the cotton candy and not get a cavity? I mean, that's kinda how it works. That's true. And what they'll what they'll do is they'll say, well, what about the people that the the effects of sin? Like, it's easy to point the guy at the guy that's sinning and go, stop sinning, you're ruining yourself. Right. You know? But then you look at the people, I I I think where his I don't know where his heart's coming from. I guess where my heart tends to look is is I start to question when I'm like, you know, these guys are sinning and it's affecting these people and they have no part in it. You know, they could be, you know, bible believing Jesus people and they're they're suffering hardcore because of this guy's sinning. Right? And like, I I suppose the more that you have relationship with Christ, the more you understand that system and it's and it's Job style. Right? It's it's, you know, from naked eye came out, naked eye go back, glory be to God, done. You know? And so, like, it's it's it's almost a perspective shift if you're a Christ follower. The outside circumstances don't don't matter. And actually, where

he's coming from is probably where most of the modern, especially American churches come from, is we don't suffer well. Our version of suffering is, you know, if we're late Seen at a stoplight. If they're out of coffee on the way to the church, they're like, Look, Lord, I put all this effort into getting up and going to your service, and the Caribou coffee is low on what I normally order, and I'm going home. It's funny because he's looking at it from a worldly perspective and saying, These other people, these third world people, blah blah blah blah blah. Mean, the truth of the matter is he

doesn't know how to suffer like that just like Christians from America don't know how to suffer like that. That's a completely different perspective for both of us, not just Christians in general. That's the same for him. He doesn't know what it feels like to suffer like that. I don't either. Across the board, we're not good at that. Well, and God

really has a desire to live in community with us. You know what? I don't have a problem with someone praying for their mustard stain. I mean, if that's as deep as their prayer goes, then that's kinda shallow. You know? But but you know what? I wanna be able to talk to my father about anything that's going on. Man, this is my favorite shirt, and I got mustard on it. Yeah. This is kinda silly. Any chance there's mustard stains on your agenda? I'm gonna put this in the washer, and I sure hope this thing comes out. If not, you know, I mean, you know, but why not? Why not? I mean, I wouldn't call that a proof of my faith, though, if it comes out or not. Maybe God doesn't really care about my shirt. Right. He probably really doesn't. But, yeah, you know, with my children, I'll give them a little token here and there just for fun. It's like just like, I hate I love you. Here. You weren't expecting this, but here's something. You know? Here. Yeah. I I bought you a new toy today. It's been a while since I've done that. Suppose I suppose it has. Now now a toy's a car, so I I don't do that. I got you some reeds with the bass clarinet. Okay.

So, I mean, for the most part, this is a rehash of at least 20% of his proofs. Right. Yeah. It's breaking down prayer. He thinks that the fact that prayers aren't manifested in the way that he expects them to be is a solid proof that God is imaginary. Why doesn't God act like me? Yeah. Exactly. Why doesn't God answer my I want my limb back prayer? Yeah. And if he doesn't, he doesn't exist. Yeah. You know, that brings me to a here's just something I was thinking this week, and I feel like I'm having a hard trouble reconciling certain ways that people behave.

My first question is, is there anything about God that embarrasses you? Have you ever been embarrassed Some of by medieval art. Now, think about it this way. Your first reaction would be no. Right? You're gonna say no. No. No. God never answers No. Agree.

Yes. So do you have an example? Yeah. Yeah. Kind of. Like, I have had a conversation and, I mean, this is obviously not a weakness on God's part. Right? It's my own perception. But, like, I've talked to people, you know, for when you especially when you read the homosexuality debate. Right? Like, when it's a faceless debate, when it's black and white against bible, I'm like, I'm sorry. It can't stand. Right? I can't. It just can't stand.

And then I've talked to somebody, you know what I'm saying, that's living that lifestyle, and they're just like, I just I don't see why God would not support me being in love with somebody. Like, living my I'm like and right then, I you know, maybe that's just weak on my part. Right? I know what the Bible says. I know what the loving answer is. The loving answer is, it's God's world. It's it's it's it's God's earth, and this is the deal. I

feel for them a little bit. I'm a little embarrassed that I have to say, I'm sorry. That's not the deal. I've had that happen. That was one of the examples that I thought of, places where, I think in retrospect, how you handled something reflects a bit of

embarrassment. I hope they don't ask about this. I'll tell you, one of the things I would have struggled with five years ago would have been God's care the revelation of God's character in the wiping out of the Canaanite, as, you know, in pursuit of the promised land. I'm like, I just I don't I don't understand. And it was just like, oh, it just seems it seems harsh, it seems brutal, and, like, and there's a there was a part of the way that I would have responded to a question there that would have reflected a bit of an embarrassment. It's like, you know, I, like, like, have to apologize for God's behavior. If there's anything where the truth of God, you would have prefaced with, I'm sorry, but There's just a little bit of embarrassment. The thing is, if you ask it that way, it seems so bad. But the reaction of any person that claims to love Jesus, you say, There's a time that you were embarrassed to God, your first reaction is, Oh, no, never. Never.

But the thing is that people will treat the Bible that way. There's aspects of the Bible where they'll apologize for God, they'll apologize for His character, they'll apologize for what it means to somebody else in their life. That was the one thing I was thinking about. But here's where I was having trouble reconciling, People within the church that claim to love Jesus will say things like, deserve all glory and praise and honor.

But there are parts of your life in which you are embarrassed of God. There are parts of your life in which you say, and it tends to be on those social type of issues, in which you'll say, Lord, I'll give you all honor and praise, except for, you know, they can say that. I don't know how you can say that with an open mouth feel like you're meaning it and praising God when there's always a part, something in the back of your mind where you're like, actually, I'm of embarrassed about your position on this matter. You know what? I've been kind of praying through this almost exactly to its root cause, right? Not kind of what you're talking about, but what it boils down to is, right, do I take God at who God says he is, right? And I've been struggling with this lately. Of course, the book of Job I find very helpful, but if knew,

if I truly believed, I know what I know, but if I truly believed what I think I believe, my life should be way different. Right? If if God is is is truly God and the Bible is his is his, his spoken word and and it's it's it's to to teach me, Why does my why would my life not reflect the fact that I know that God is there and that and that his laws are just unchanging and his love is unstoppable? So why would I I feel like there's a lot of feelings and a lot of struggles that I shouldn't have if I truly believe that. Because you still live in the flesh and that's the battle you will have the rest of your life. Dang it, Dan. I wanted you to say, Mike, by the time you get to be X and X years old,

you'll feel much better about this. Sorry, I really can't tell I you went on a bender and I bought this hat. Jesus still loves me. That's all I can do to stay alive. This was in a state of worship when I bought this at the men's conference. That's an interesting side note there. I just thought you should know that. It was it was obviously a godly choice. No. I I mean, we we we

physically, mentally, cognitively understand, okay. This is what god wants, but then our our flesh battles against it because it's against our nature. Our nature is to do sin and selfish things and all that. So it's always gonna be a battle. But like what you were saying, if there's ever an I never get embarrassed. I just figure I don't understand it well enough to explain it well enough yet. I'm I get more embarrassed for myself,

like, some of the social issues, whatever. If someone asks a question, I think, oh, man. I'm I'm disappointed. I can't have a better answer for you because I know what God's answer is, and I know he's smarter than I am. I I'm just not as smart. I to come up with a better answer. Yeah, and I think that's a maturing thing. I feel like I'm much closer there now where if there's a hesitancy, it's not being able to accurately represent God's character in those things where there's a disagreement. Because the church does have a tendency to have

I mean, people are right. There are some angry Christians and some bigoted Christians and whatever, all the words they throw at them, because we're not communicating it well. And I don't know if that we're really bigoted or angry. We just don't communicate it well. Yeah. Well, here's the thing is you can't just pull out the verses about any social issue and and and say, this is the deal, the rest of the Bible is the Bible that reveals God's heart behind those verses. Right? And so if you're not including God's heart and God's, you know, affection and grace for you and you're just pointing to that one verse, they're not getting the full counsel of God. They're getting piecemeal verses. That's poor. That's poor theology, and you're not loving people when you're doing that because really I came across this this week.

I used to love the book of Job because I thought it was angry and awesome. God pulled his trump card and he said, That's it. Here's gonna be the deal. Right? But there's a verse in Job, it might be chapter eight, Job's like, He's kind of had enough. God hasn't shown up to speak yet. He doesn't understand why these things are happening to And and and and he he says, if only there was someone to mediate between this, God and I, to straighten things out. Right? And I thought, man, does this book mean a lot more to me because I have the New Testament and I know who Jesus Christ is. Right? That statement right there, that's the tattoo statement. Anyway, that verse right there was enough for me to go, okay.

Am I providing the full counsel God to people when I talk to them about the way they should live, right, and the things that will keep them from living a joyful life if they choose not to live this way, right? That book of Job was awesome to me when I was an angrier man, and now it's doubly awesome to him because that statement right there shows that I've been given something that Job didn't have right off bat, was the knowledge of grace beforehand. You have a mediator. Right? He stood in complete unknown. Right? And he was still faithful to God. Right? He goes, glory be to God. He I got, I came out naked, I'm going back to dirt, glory be to God, right? Stop haggling me woman. And like, and That's Now hold on. That's the tattoo.

Make it I leave. Stop haggling me woman. But I don't know. Blew me away when I was reading that. I'm like, this is the because I was trying to figure out what verse I was gonna send her on so was gonna teach the book of Job, right? I'm like, that's the one. That's the one. If only there was a mediator, I'm like, there is one. Great. He didn't know that. I know Right. Yeah. You know? That's that's cool. Well, and what people don't understand is, you know, like, I I don't I don't if someone is gay. I don't care if they're living with their girlfriend. I don't care if they've had 49 abortions. I don't care. You know, whatever. Go all the social things you talk about. You know? Yeah. 49 might be a bit much. That's a lot. I mean, I shouldn't say I don't care. I feel I feel bad.

We we we don't tell people to try to so that we can get them to look like us or act like us because it makes me uncomfortable. Thank Jesus. That is outrageous. You are on a destructive destructive path, that will send you right to hell. Yeah. We don't want people to go to hell. That that that's why we tell people. Sometimes we communicate that poorly. We make it more look like we just want you to straighten your lifestyle up. If only you dressed like me. Have a nice mustard stain on your blouse. Yeah, exactly. I don't care about your lifestyle. Let's get you to Jesus. Jesus will take care of your lifestyle as you grow and transform in Him. How did we get this way? How did we get this way where we communicate God's word so poorly? It's the Baptists. Just give them equal time. I don't know. I think it's a passion,

really. We're a little bit clumsy, and we want so badly because we know the consequences. I don't know anybody who hates people like that, even though we get blamed for that. But it may sound like we hate people when we talk because we're so passionate, we don't we're clumsy, we don't know how to communicate it well in a in a way that someone will hear it. We put it through our filter rather than their filter. Yeah. And we say what we wanna hear, assuming they'll understand. You know, I've met people that do hate other people like that. That means they're not in Christ. Well, it's self righteous is what It's it a judgment on, hey, I was thinking through this, when I was thinking in my head, I'm like, you know, where people go wrong, where people have been embarrassed to God, and I'm thinking about, there's people that are like that. I think they disassociate it. They don't like to think of it that way. They like to think of it as just a disagreement on text or whatever, but like, no, no, you're embarrassed to God. You don't wanna say what God actually says. I don't know how you lift holy hands to the Lord of the universe where you disagree with him. But like, but then I got to thinking of of of some of those social issues, and I thought, you know, shame on people. Shame on people or the guy that would, you know, everyone's hugged an angry man. It's probably your dad, maybe it's your brother, it's probably an uncle. You've given a hug or a handshake to a guy that was sinfully angry at some point in his life, and you've hugged him. How many of those same people would hesitate to openly, to like, big bear hug, a guy living a homosexual lifestyle? There's something about that where people make a distinction between their sins and they're like,

know, mine's not so bad, or the one that's happened to me, or the one that I've been engaged with or whatever. There's just some things that I'm not willing to be open to. It's shameful how we look at other people's sin because in that reaction, there's a righteousness. There's an inherent self righteousness about, Well,

well, even Jesus was kind of angry. Mean, kind of, you know? Anyway, when I was thinking through that, I thought, I don't know how people reconcile that type of thought, being able to look at parts of God's word and chuck it or feel like they disagree.

It takes testicles to hold some holy hands to God and say, All glory and honor to you. By the way, I disagree with you on this social issue. You know what sticks about that though too? It's like I grew up in the church. I can't shake those feelings. Right? Like, I grew up there, and and and it was elevated as I went to church when I was younger. You know? Like, there's certain sins, and I I know for a fact right now that's not the case, but, like, it's just ingrained in me that these are kind of the big ones that we rail against because we don't do them. That's what's going on out there. That's what's happening. It is so different than me. It's safe to talk about that. Yeah, exactly. Here's what happens in the mission field. Be ready. Americans don't suffer well.

You might have to hug a gay man out there. Seriously, that's just terrible. I pray that that would leave me at some point and know the Holy Spirit takes care of those things, But as much as I fight against it and I know it's coming, there are certain things that I just can't I don't marry together well through God's eyes, and that really stinks, right? We gotta tone that down. The body of Christ has got to quit that crap. There's no reason for it. There's no place for it.

God's grace obviously covers us and covers them. And so who are we to take the shades and point it in a certain light and say, maybe not as much on that guy, you know? That's junk. Yeah, and and a lot of it comes from a mentality of which portrays the fact that, hey, you need to clean yourself up before Jesus will see you. You know what I'm saying? It's it's like Jesus is sitting off in the in the in the throne room somewhere, and he's just waiting for people to come in. He's like, well, the king can't see you now. Yeah. You're too nasty. You know, if you can clean yourself up, change your ways, you can hold onto the theft and a little bit of the anger and stuff, but you can get in that way, but like, those big things, the big things, you know, the capital S sins that we like to talk about, you're gonna have to give those up before the Lord will see you. Now here's the deal, that doesn't change the fact of how God sees those things. No, it is still and

my sentences in describing some of those hot button social issues should not start with the phrase, I'm sorry. I'm not sorry to be able to communicate the truth of the Lord to you. I recognize that there will be hurt in that, and that it will probably be a difficult transition for you, even if you recognize the truth. That emotional

state, probably am sorry for. But, you know, I'm not apologizing for the word of God. I'm not apologizing for God's position on what you consider to be a social issue. However, you know, we need to take ourselves off the throne about it. You know, one of the major things I think is people are scared to death to live without that sin because they don't know how to do it. You know what I'm saying? Like, there's not even certain habitual sins, but, like, sin in general. People don't know how to live without it. And so when you're like, you're gonna take this major part of my life away from me, and they you've told them what you're gonna what what Christ will replace it with, and they don't quite get it yet, they're scared to death. Right? It's not like they're holding on to their sin with everything they have. They don't know how to live without that sin. So you're basically chopping off three of their legs and saying, walk, buddy. Trust in this God that I've told you about to move.

If you had to steer your conversation somewhere, especially with someone who doesn't know Jesus at all, start there and realize that they're not the trumped up beast person they may proclaim themselves to be. They're scared to death that what you're saying is you're going have to get rid of certain things in your life and you're not going to depend on them anymore. Their immediate thought is, what am I gonna depend on? This is all I've depended on my whole life. I don't know any better. Know? And so not only are they moving into unregistered territory, they're they're moving into unsupported territory as far as they can see. You know? They're freaked out. I I go through that with with the habitual sins that I have. Right? I've had them so long. I don't know how to live without them. I know who Christ is. I know what he does. And I still don't I still don't wanna give them to him because I don't know how to live without that sin. That freaks me out and I know Jesus Christ. Right? So imagine

coming from someone's perspective who doesn't know Christ, that's gotta scare you to death. I think we miss that because I think when you look at that from that perspective, you're loving that person and also telling them the truth about Christ. Right? But you're loving them enough to realize what what where that's gonna put them. The information you're giving them is gonna put their state of mind somewhere. And if it gets awkward and terribly defensive,

realize that they've at least thought about it and they're pretty freaked out. You know what I'm saying? They don't like the sound of that because it sounds odd and foreign and they've used those sins as their legs and their arms their whole life. Just don't know how to operate without If you figure that the perspective of the person at that time is that everything in their world is of this world, and a world that they've largely put together and puppeted themselves, basically, by what you're saying, you've introduced the concept of a whole another scenario in which you do not get to control with the things that you do. You have to submit

to the requests, requirements, I don't know the best way to put it. The love. The love of somebody else, right? And that world that you had kinda created for yourself simply cannot be permitted to stand, because it is in direct opposition to the love of the man of the other world. I mean, that's difficult. It is. That's difficult thing to be able to consider and change from, and I think we need to recognize that. Sometimes we, especially people that have grown up in the church, maybe you just don't have that perspective of having to have your world completely changed,

completely be different, right? You're you're fighting about how much to to to submit to this thing, how much to rebel a little because you grew up in the church, but ultimately fall back into the ways of the bible. I mean, that's not a There's people that give up everything to follow Christ. Absolutely everything. Sins they love, people they love, worlds they created and love to follow Jesus, and you're coming at it from a perspective of Johnny Flannelgraph, who's been around Christ for a long time, and kind of hem and hawed around it, and by the grace of God, we're still alive when you decided that you're actually gonna do what God asked you to do, as opposed to know about it and ignore it. Yeah, exactly, exactly. You know,

that's a praise Jesus that God allowed you to be alive long enough for you to have done that, because that's foolish. Yeah, he speaks to that in Revelation. He's not a big fan of lukewarm things. Yep. In general, it's either spicy Mexican or sushi. He don't like Donald's. No. No. That's the other. That's what I'm saying. That's how he says it. You're the Donald's of this world. You're listening to Life From The Path. That was proof number 44 from goddessimaginary.com. Let's look at I'll give you the opening salvo at proof number 45. This should be awesome. Consider Noah's Ark. Have you ever taken the time to read the Bible's story of Noah's flood? And have you ever pondered what this story's position in the Bible might actually mean? While there are many people who consider the Bible, and therefore Noah's story, to be literally true, most educated and intelligent people understand that the story of Noah's flood is a myth. They understand that Mount Everest was never covered in flood water. Did he say Mount Everest?

Yeah, that's what he's saying, Mount Everest. Okay, got it. They understand that the ark cannot hold the millions species that are now found on earth, and they understand that there's no DNA evidence to show that all animals on earth came from single breeding pairs just a few thousand years ago. But there is one part of the story of Noah's ark that deserves special recognition. It shows us something about God that is quite unsettling to any intelligent person who takes the time to consider his action. That special section is this, God senselessly murdered millions of humans and billions of animals in the flood. That's proof number 45. I feel like I got some legs for that boy. Alright. I think we're all right there. We'll talk about next week. If you wanna read the rest on your own, study at home, you can go to godsimaginary.com. This is backslashi45.hort

could also go to the bible. Yeah. We also recommend the bible. Holy cats, it's huge. Uh-oh. I'm gonna have to pare this down. Anyway, that's proof number 45. Troy's our resident Noah's Ark specialist, so I'm excited to hear what he comes back with. Okay. There you go. You're listening to Live From The Path. No. I it it's it's something that came up on on site that we are on. Just a comment that made me laugh. Okay. Brilliant. You'll you'll wanna remove some comments off our

Off the YouTube? Yep. Okay, brilliant. Good. Hey, now's the time to check it out before I get out there. Okay. So here's what The question I asked a little bit earlier

had to do with what is the danger of a humble and relatively effective pope? Because the the reaction of Pope Francis has been a a very positive one. He's he's a he comes off as a very humble man. He's not enjoying some of the

presumed excesses that exist in the potpourri. He's taken some firm moves on reaching people on a ground level and making the church seem less hierarchical, and it also seems like he's taking some steps to deal with some of the sexual abuse items that have been flowing in the Catholic church in recent

years and decades. And so otherwise, seems like a positive. We've seen a lot of positive reactions, lot of Catholics, either committed or otherwise. We're pretty proud to have the guys, the Pope, pretty happy with it. This has been kind of turning my head for the last few weeks. I'm like, Well, that's good. That's good. Because if a guy who's carrying some of the characteristics that you saw in Christ, a humble servant,

working directly with the people, working to make sure people are cared for and fed, that kind of thing, said, That's positive. People can look at that and see a good Christian example. How could that be a bad thing? And then I thought, here's the reason. If the strength of your faith is dependent on the goodness of a human being,

then it will always fail you. This is not the Pope's fault, by the way. Right. It's not his fault that that's the case. But it it's kind of a it it made me just a little bit sad because I thought, look at all these people who see the a a change a change in the Pope, they're excited because they feel like they got the right guy in there doing the right thing, and that's good. That should be a good thing. You you to have the same experience. Put the You like you got the pastor with the right heart in your church. That's awesome. But if that is the thing that ties you to your faith, the thing that makes you excited about your faith, that's a serious danger.

Because the strength of our faith, the strength the Christian faith as a whole, is not dependent on how good a man is. It's how good God is. The man that does good will always also be the man that does bad. That will always be the case. It will come out. You will find that the person that you respected and revered is a sinful character. It is a person that will fail you either personally or as a whole. He will fail God. He will fail Christ. He will, as a whole, do the wrong thing at some point in time, and someone else will know about it and have the possibility to taint your faith.

And so the the the Catholic religion or Catholic faith is is more intertwined in that leadership than than other other denominations within the Christian faith, so there's even a little bit more danger there. It kind of stinks on

one level because you think, Good, a guy that's kind of inspiring people and pointing people back to the character of God and the nature of Christ, that's great. If that's the connection, if that's the thing that people look at, he's gonna let them down. He's gonna let them down. Yeah. Absolutely. So I agree entirely when it comes to that. I was a little bit confused as to what you were talking about to begin with, but now that you've explained, we

you need to have more of a of a rock than that. You know, we if, you know, going on the for all of sin and fall short of the glory of God Yep. Every one of us is fallible. Every one of us is not perfect. Every one of us is not Jesus. And and having faith in that is dangerous. And I I agree wholeheartedly in that. That's completely true. You know, we we cannot base our faith on man. We have faith in God, not in the pope, not in the church. We have faith in God and what he can do through all of those things. Now you can you can healthily use some of those fellows as good examples of faith, though. Like, there's Yeah. There's some crowning achievement dudes out there who are like, heck yeah. Like Job.

Yeah. God can use every one of these guys, every every person that's that's a a figurehead of whatever you wanna say of the Catholic church of of, you know, the random church down down the road from you and the pastor there. God can definitely use every single one of them. Absolutely. No problem with that whatsoever. The problem is the fact that if you put them on that pedestal above everyone else, and then that's the reason you believe, That's that's that's shaking. You know, that's a crappy situation for the leadership. You know what I'm saying? You know, you you have to garner a certain amount of of authority as a leader and you have to earn that authority. Right? And so people will tend to to hold you up a little bit. Right? Because they hold you in some type of authority. Otherwise, I wouldn't be humbling myself to an idiot. You know? So so but then on the other hand,

you know, you're still a foul of a human being. I'm still gonna I'm know? And so I I suppose that makes it, you gotta pray your leaders up something fierce, I guess, because when they fall, that stinks because then people will put their false expectations on you. And when you fail, you know, they may attribute that to God instead of the human like they're supposed to. Right. That and that's that's a problem that that is very easy to happen. We we put our trust in in the man. We put our trust in in the pastors, the leaders, the the people, the shepherds, whatever you wanna you wanna say, instead of of realizing fully that they are fallible, that they are not above reproach, that they are humans. You take everything that they say, put it through your own filter, through your own faith, and then God is essentially the one who's shepherding you through the words of someone else. But, you take it on yourself to build upon your faith for yourself.

But, if you lay it off as in this person is is your guide, is your spiritual person you go to, and there's nothing else to go to, and if they're they mess up, then we're all completely in the dark, then it's bad. So Well, and I agree. I think it's a maturing process, just like we talked about earlier in your faith, is again, recognizing God as God the Father and recognizing

that you have the ability When you're new in the faith or even immature in the faith, the people is the grasp. The Bible ministries, it's a people grasp, right? Stories of people. That's what you get. That's what connects you, and that's how you kind of start to see the character of God through people. So it's a natural thing, I think.

Like I said, I don't know that when I was thinking about it, it's not an indictment on the pope. I'm glad that his actions seem to be reflective of the character of Christ, and I'm sure the things that he's doing in that realm are positive,

regardless of whether I agree with all of it or not. But in general, was just something that struck me, and I thought, You know what? Look at all that. I'm glad people are excited about that, but ultimately, I think that's a danger in that position anyway. Good or bad or indifferent. That's the danger of that position. Yep. I don't know. I've heard good things about

the new pope. I'd kinda like to meet him. You think he'd come on the show? Yeah. Give him a call. We can get some Fritos in here. Everybody love Fritos. I I why hold on. Why do you think he loves Fritos? I said everybody loves Fritos. Oh, well, then that's nondistinct. Hey, man. We didn't pick out something that you personally like. We just figured everyone loves Fritos. Come have one. Well, he's hard to get to, man. I can't ask him what he what he eats on a regular basis. Well, you know, what what I read is that they what's a Swiss Butterfinger? Where does he live at? Vatican. What do they speak? Italian there?

What's an Italian butterfinger? So yeah. That's a Roman Italian butterfly. Chicken coast guard? Alright. That's not right. You're listening to Life From The Path. Welcome to Mike's Hour. Here's the deal. The economy is not turning around like people tell you. I was listening to the radio the other day. Here's what they say. Stocks are down. I said, I'm glad I don't have any of those. They said retirement accounts are down. I'm like, bummer. And then they said, turns out unemployment's going up. I'm like, dang. I barely hold on to this job. I feel like things aren't getting any better. But it turns out that other people have different problems. Really? And they've written a life from the path of advice, and here's what they got. It says, dear life from the path, I am a 14 year old girl.

I don't understand why adults tell me to be an independent thinker, to embrace myself, and then put me down for not conforming. Why is it outrageous to come to your own conclusions, speculate, challenge accepted ideas, or find your own faith? It would be easier to quietly nod an empty head and smile to please our parents and the adults who influence kids so they can enjoy superficial satisfaction for how well they have raised us. Should I die deny myself as an individual and be pulled along, or is it better to stay quiet and just be who everyone expects you to be? What the heck? Yeah. What context? I mean, what are you trying to to to break down as you The only reason to be that vague in your preposition is because you've had some kind of failed argument with your parents. You were probably dead wrong. Like, you stayed out of the details. You used look kinda lofty something or other, and you were not correct. Here's the deal. I wanna worship office furniture, my old man is having a fit.

Want me to be myself, but myself is a leatherback worshipper. Yeah. I don't know. I don't even know how to answer that. That's vague drivel. You know what that is? I recognize that because I do that stuff. I probably wrote 15 papers like that when I was 14

because I had the linguistic skills to get away with it. It made you sound like you knew what you were talking about, but really, you were arguing nothing. You were fighting an open air in which no one was arguing with you, and you're not using distinct enough words for anybody to have any type of logical discussion with you. The only thing you do is when someone starts to get specific, then you back away to the big idea, which is, you're not letting me be me. That's what that is. Okay. Here's the secular answer. Hold on to your hats, boys. Independent thinkers are the people who have contributed the most to society.

Our most important scientific discoveries were conceived by individuals who choose not to accept conventional thinking. The same is true for religion. Jesus was an independent thinker. And there it was. That's why it's secular. And there it was. Not my will but yours father. Independent. Nicely done. Hold on a second. Hold on a second. I'm having trouble identifying this woman as an independent thinker. Who who what were the example did she give any other people examples beside Jesus? No. Okay. Just name one. Ben Franklin. Right? You think he's a, know, independent thinker. Can you imagine him, like, writing into the newspaper for advice on advocacy on being an independent thinker? I am

so independent. I need your help. I've become so independent, I need someone to tell me what to do. I I, you know, I I'm over the beat of my own drum. Can you tell me what that is? I wrote a song yesterday called, Irony. Everybody's

really big into these candles but I see these lightning in the sky, silence do good. The rest of these secular advice continues. I'm not sure what kind of conversation you feel the adults in your life are trying to discourage, but people who are deeply committed to their religious faith can feel offended or threatened if their beliefs are challenged. Even though you are an independent thinker, you should be respectful of the beliefs of others. Yeah. I think she said enough that she probably let's just just say they're they're Christian people, and maybe she wants to back out of church, and they're saying, you need to go. I mean, she gave enough of that hint. You know? She threw in faith. What do you do when run into that situation, though? Right? Like, you raise your kids, you try to bring them up in a Jesus household, and then 15, they're like, you know what? I don't think I wanna go.

Yeah. Well You drag them? You can move out, or you can go to church until you're as long as you live here. Dan says, give them the the old monopoly boot. I'm just saying. This house goes to church. You you can do what you want later on, but I got the my house, my rule is you're gonna be living here. You're gonna be going to church. When I turned 16, I was able to decide whether or not I was gonna be able to go to youth group, but, church was was Nonnegotiable. Yeah. Nonnegotiable. I needed to be there. Yeah.

My only man told me as long as I left it on ESPN, we don't have any problems. He goes, sports center plays three times in a row. I wanna see you all three times. Might change something. Alright, dad. Sounds good. Here we go. Nope. Woah. Here we go. Dear life from the path. Around the time of my sister's wedding, she and her fiance

Greg tried to get me and their best man, Bruce, together. They brought him along when they would visit and encourage us to date. Not long after the wedding, we did start to date. Bruce is a great guy, and I enjoy being with him. My problem is he's my brother in law's nephew even though they are close in age. Bruce's mom is Greg's half sister. Am I dating a family member? Okay. Hold on. He's my brother in law's nephew. Okay. He's my brother in law's nephew.

No. That's alright. They're not connected by blood at all. That's all legal. That seems alright. Okay. Hold on. That was it. That was the question. Bruce is not a blood relative. He's related to you by marriage. I'm sorry. Is that really an advice columnist question? I feel like a standard science book would do it. He didn't straight that out. Biology one zero one. Is it a big little b or is it a Great guys can make good husbands. That's the advice. Okay. Last one. Here we go. Dear life from the path. This oh, this one seems kinda down and out. My husband fathered a child in high school that was placed up for adoption.

His mom has become very close with the adoptive family and visits often. My husband does not. However, my mother-in-law constantly asked him to go on vacation with her to visit the child. I also found out that she sends the child gifts and signs my husband's name on the card. Oh. Abby, dear secular, I feel this is hugely disrespectful not only to me, but also to my husband. He has chosen not to get involved with this child because he doesn't think it's fair to the adoptive family. He also doesn't wish to become attached. I feel disgusted.

Have already told her she is overstepping her boundaries, but it continues to happen. What can we do? Troy. Okay. Hold on. Let's what hold on. Overview of the egregious behavior here. The guy fathered a child in high school, placed it up for adoption. Okay. Yep. His mom is very close to the kid. Signs the the the adoptive or the biological father's name on the cards even though he doesn't care about the kid at all. Yep. The new wife finds the mother's behavior disrespectful and out of line.

Hold that thought. If you wanna hear our answer to that, you're gonna have to check out the podcast. If you're on ninety nine point three KTA, we love you, but we gotta split. Please enjoy the word from our sponsors. They're great sponsors. Give them a call, send them an email, go visit them, utilize their services, tell them thanks for supporting Life From The Path. We will see you guys next Saturday. Thanks for listening to Life From The Path. Okay. Thoughts, fellas? I'm

astonished at at the mom's goal just straight up signing the name of the of the the father, the biological father on cards. That's ridiculous. She's out of line. Yeah. She's completely out of line. That's that's setting up, you know, false expectations to the child. Maybe they're gonna see, you know, when they turn 18, they wanna pursue, their biological father. You know, they're gonna see, well, I got cards from you in the last ten, fifteen years, dad. I figured you'd wanna see me. The adoptive parents aren't turning her away. No. I don't visits them on vacation. I don't see a problem with her going and visiting. I just see a problem with her signing

signing the the husband's or the the son's name on there and the biological father's name on there, and I think that's just setting wrong expectations. That that is pretty bad. I mean, that's like I I could see this happening. Let's say I had a crush on a certain somebody, a celebrity or whatever, right, when I was younger. And then someone was like sending me letters signed by that person making me think that, hey, they dig on me. That's wrong. That set me up that set me up thinking that someone cared for me that didn't. That is what that is. Now you put it in celebrity crush. Come back home to me, Susan. That's just weird. I understand now. That's what I You called for her there.

Do you know how many nights I wept over Susan Sarandon? 40 is the new 20, Susan. Call me. And Abe Bagoona is alive. He lives. Yeah. I think I think the problem is that the mom is is and and I can understand. I can identify that that she wants to be involved in her grandchild's life, and she's trying to force her son into it who has made a choice to back off, and and she needs to back off herself.

That's just inappropriate. She's she's she's meddling in an in an area. She shouldn't I mean, like you say, if she wants to be involved, that that's if it's up if if it's good with the other family and with that child, that's great. More power to you, but she's being dishonest. Yeah. Yeah. That's just gonna hurt people. It it will not Yeah. Especially the kid. You know what I'm saying? Like Yeah. I you know, of course, I I I don't quite know what it feels like to be adopted, but it would seem to me that I know the guy. If I am one step closer to knowing the guy that doesn't care to know me, that really sucks. Right? If it's some unknown fellow, maybe that's easier for me. I think all adoptive kids come to a point where they're like, I wanna meet him. I wanna know what happened. I wanna know what went down. But to a certain extent,

that I know that you're this close to me and you choose not to make any cut, that stinks. Right? She probably should stay out of it. Secular says, Your mother-in-law may have the best of intentions, but forging your husband's name is dishonest. Sooner or later, the child will found out the truth, and the result may be painful. However, there's nothing you can do to control your husband's mother's behavior, so accept it, and don't take it personally. No. No. No. That's no. That's not good advice at all.

No. No. You can't. You think that's good advice, Biff? What do you think? That's terrible. You cannot continue to she's she at the very least shoot. Now I don't even know how to straighten this out. Right? To Buuva's point, now the kid is under the impression that daddy actually loves you and cares about you and wants to have a relationship, right? And the mom has set this up. So short of making up an outrageous lie to try to get out of this, like he died. The base premise is the guy should man up, actually. He really should have done something about this to begin with,

that the mom wouldn't even have the option to be able to get in there and represent him because he would be representing himself. Aside from that fact, something's got to happen here where the grandma comes clean and says that I've been doing this.

Again, to the child, it's just completely unfair to have misrepresented this. She needs to stop doing that and fix that situation or repent of it the best way she can and try to straighten that back out, because otherwise, I would agree she's put that kid in a real, real tough spot. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Right. We got time for one more here? Yep. One more. All right. Dear Lai from the Path, what is the correct response when asked at a doctor's office or hospital if you drink? I drink socially. Maybe once a month. Should I say yes? I do,

I'm afraid it will imply that I drink more often. Boy, somebody's got a complex here. Actually, I have this same concern when they ask me if I smoke. Yes. Mike, you're a smoker. I say yes to it, but then they always have that's the thing. Hold a second. Not to out you in front of everybody, but you're I mean, you're a fairly heavy smoker. I I don't I'm not classified as heavy. You smoke all the time. No. I don't smoke all the time. Do you smoke every day? I smoke every day. You smoke every day. Not all the time. Was an everyday smoker to Not your own like a chimney even. I'm not smoking right now. It's an hour long program. Have you ever seen me smoking now? To be clear, the question at the doctor's office, are This you a is why she doesn't wanna answer because of your judgmental glasses.

Do you drink? Woah. A defined drink. You're misrepresenting the situation to think that the are you a smoker checkbox may not apply to you, everyday smoker. Really want to lie about it, honestly, They're like, Do you smoke? I'm like, Did you already listen to my lungs? No.

No. Then he goes, I'm gonna listen to your lungs. I always say, Okay, smoke something. I feel like they know that already. Yeah, they know They just want you to admit it. It's like a ghetto counseling session. That's what I'm saying. It's like some kind they get some kind of weird jollies about about, you know, getting me to admit that I'm a smoker. Mhmm. That's what they do. Uh-huh. Yeah. But how often have you done this to yourself? Well How long have you been making poor life choices?

Have you always been dumb or is this new? We need this for the fun. Let's see. How do you spell failure again? Here's what it says. She says, I always end up feeling awkward and like I need to explain myself. I'm pretty proud telling them I don't smoke or do drugs. Dang it. I'm not like that Hoosier Mike. Seriously.

Unnecessary. What do other people who drink on occasion usually say? She's cavorting with a bunch of potential liars as to what maybe they do. Yeah. What do you usually do to mask the fact that you're an alcoholic Here's the thing. I've had an alcoholic beverage like twice a year, maybe. Like I had a spiced cider somewhere, and I keep a thing of whiskey in the top cupboard of my fridge, or of the kitchen, and like once a year, I'll just take a wing of it. Got a sore throat. Something manly about it, you know? I'm like, yeah. Yeah. I could I could be I could have a toothache in the Old West. Check this out. You know? So like, give me surgery. I think I'm a safe no on that one. I don't See, I'm the guy who's like, Oh, and I have like two a year, I guess I would drink.

I did extra on the mouthwash the other day. Does that work? NyQuil's really good. No, just feel my liver cut. You know what, did you check my liver? Feel like this Bikes Hard Limited I had in April's tearing me up. Generally feel they're they're actually looking for, you you know, they're trying to help your health. So I wanna tell them everything I know. You know? I watched the Dosakis commercial before I came in. Like, I mean, I lingered on it. Can you tell that? Yeah. See, that's I think maybe that's what they're asking is they don't like leading questions, like ask what you wanna know. That's like it used to bother me they weighed you, you know, and I'm like, that's none of your business what I weigh. It's like actually it's totally their business.

What they prescribe is totally based on how much I weigh. I've never thought of that. That's not your business, doctor. I'll weigh what I want. I'll weigh I want. Me alone. I've never had that concept. I will say that they've kinda like, the judgmental stare I get from the nurse whenever they kinda walk me up to the weight. They're just like, as I go up to the to the the scale, I'm kinda like You don't wanna move that weight yet. Walk in shape. Yeah. They kinda look at me like, are we gonna need the bigger scale? And how's this gonna work out? Do they say it like that? You know, I Do we use we use the bigger one? Awkward. I feel like, you know, every time I have to break the ice with, you know, doc, I understand. You know, you're not gonna surprise me when you say, So, Troy, we noticed that you have a bit of a weight problem. It's not like you're gonna be like, Wait, what? I

didn't wake up this morning. Oh, no. What has happened? I understand. Told you I smoke three packs a day. Exactly. Could this be the the drinking socially and the the smoking that I've been doing? By no means, could it possibly be my diet and what I've been eating. It has to be something else, doctor. I don't understand what's happened. I do I do try and play the innocent card of just like, oh, I had no idea I weighed that much, doctor. I thought I had Ebola. Do you have, like, a 10?

You really get this taken care of somebody. Can I just I use can we get that back? I had a reaction to the Jolly Ranchers, and I thought, surely this will go down after a couple of days. I drink water. Exactly. I drink, like, two gallons of water too. I rubbed my belly. Ice pack. Ice Ice ice on it every night. I I will say though, since I started losing weight, it's been a consolation to I I start off with the okay. So before we go into the whole physical portion or the weight, I understand that I'm overweight,

and they're just like, oh, okay. Well, a problem. It's like the you know, I you don't have to give me the whole well, Troy, we really wanna talk to you. Fully understand the concept that that I'm a bigger guy and and that, you know, I I have the weight issue, but I'm I'm happy that I'm able to tell them, you know, I've lost, like, 200

something pounds so far. And then, it's really off. They're just like, Oh, awesome. I feel like you're doing good there. Yeah, exactly. It's no longer the, Well, Troy, we really need to talk to you about your weight. It's though, Yeah, I quit smoking about a year and three months ago. I haven't smoked cigarettes since. I've lost a little over 200 pounds. I'm exercising. I'm eating healthy. I'm going to a dietitian. I'm I'm getting everything taken care of to where they're just kinda checking off boxes. They're just like, okay. Don't have to talk about that. Don't have to talk. Alright. Well, what are you here for? Alright. Clean your ears. Get out of here. Exactly. Brush your teeth. Get out of here. Leave some urine in the sink because we don't trust you. Good job. It kinda turns from the, oh, big guy coming into a, hey. Good job. And a high five. So it it it flips it around for me. It's good. Yeah. So

what's your advice? Just tell them the truth. Yeah. Just tell them when you had a drink last. Do you drink? Well, I had one last week. Usually, it's about once a month. Does that count? Write down whatever you got to write down, you know? Yeah. I remember, so I had a physical, I don't know, two months ago, and the guy's like, know, are you in generally good health? I'm like, for the most part, I said that sometimes I'm tired during the day. I drink a lot of caffeine. Mean, a lot of caffeine. He's like, well, do you smoke? I said, no. Is he drinking? I go, no. He goes, well, you're probably finding. I

mean, I was ready to I was ready to cop to like a massive caffeine problem. Mean, four cups a day They don't care. Coffee, bunch of soda. I mean, these are problems. I recognize there's a health issue with how drink caffeine, but they must see some real wing things in there because he just he's, you know, fast because you're not a smoker. You're not a social pariah. You walk in there and they go, You know, we put out ads

and we clearly wrote on the pack that this is gonna kill you. Yeah, I know. I'm just that dumb. Think about There's another $15 Give me a pack. Think about how you're treated, a man of normal weight, generally good health, smoker, compared to

other folk who are actually still overweight, right, but non smoker. They celebrate him because he's at least on the right track. You, on the other hand, you still got one foot in. Yeah. And me? Coming on down, Kyle. Going on up. It's a dummy waiter system. That's the way it rolls, dude. They're actually disappointed to find out that you're in good health because they're allowed to hold that over your head as weight for you to quit smoking. All the healthy people waste themselves on cigarettes.

You know, the annual physical thing is really kind of a joke because like you say, you go in and they ask you how you're doing. I'm like, I'm here to fuck you. You're supposed to tell me how I'm doing. Was like, am I healthy? They're just like, you healthy? Yep. Okay. Here you go. You know, they get it. Was like, $65. I didn't I could have told you. You know, could

Exercise a little more. Yeah. And do some more water. Like, doc, can you just, like, email me the file that you have that you print off, that little checklist? I'll go through it myself. I'll figure it out. You don't have to charge me $60 to do this. Let's do a fiver and call it a day. Exactly. Hey. Wait. We're on the podcast. Right? We're we're past the broadcast. Okay. So I so I was at this physical. Right? I there is nothing. I mean, nothing. I I don't mean I'm not saying it doesn't matter. We're not comfort. Right? People usually say about this part is uncomfortable. I'm not so much worried about that, but there is nothing that feels you makes you feel more vulnerable than the butt test. I've never had that.

Actually, they don't do that at mine either, man. Did you have an awkward smile? The what? I got a sticker. The butt test? They did a swab. Is that what is that not normal? Is

it not normal? Man, I have never heard of that in my entire life. Maybe they heard you were a drinker. Did you say yes to the ultimate question? He did. Wait. Is this really not happening? I've never ever had never I stopped getting physicals when I started smoking so hard. He

did a swab. They did tell me when I turned 50 that that magic date that they'll start doing colonoscopies every ten years. Okay. I'd rather them do a swab than go ahead and just do the Roto Rooter on Yeah. Yeah. In either case, nothing more awkward because the guy I'm trying to think of the best way to put this, keep it appropriate. So It would be better if you were buck naked doing this thing than half

naked. Like undies down to your knees or ankle and mast. Laying on your side. Smile. I'm like, this just feels weird. I mean, it would have been way different. There's something intentional about being Stark raven naked, Yeah.

Know exactly. As God's major, you're like, okay, let's do this. Whatever happens, alright? But to have, like, you you don't have a shirt on, so it's already a little bit awkward and like your undies are kind of down, they're not off. Yeah. They're like, it feels like someone kind of robbed me of underwear but left me like that. I'd nervous in case of fire. Run. I didn't think about it that way. If you're stark naked, whatever, you can haul out. If you have to do the waddle,

you're the first guy to go. I'm thinking you could pull them up. No, you'd be too nervous because of the fire. They're gonna be able to pick you out though. That's the guy. What if someone had to He was mid swap, get him. If someone had to carry you out, that'd be the ultimate embarrassment. Well, most awkward time of my life was I had to be junior high or whatever and I did my first physical. Had to be a sports thing, you know, you have And to have a it was a woman doctor and she's like, Well, hey, drop your drawers. Going. Yeah. I saw that. Oh. Yeah. It's like, I'm pretty sure I can't do that in front of a woman. Yeah. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. It's like, no, really. Go ahead. Where are getting the dude? I

had an older man who made jokes. That was much worse. I tell you. That was much, much worse. I don't remember what he said, but he was making a whole laughing matter over the whole deal. Aw. And I'm sitting there chuckling, trying not to because I just feel awkward about the whole situation altogether. Here's, a 50 to 60 year old doctor that is He's seen it all. You know what saying? Yeah. I mean, I'm not doubting his professionalism. I'm just saying, you know, for demeanor, I was not the guy to to make laugh.

I mean, I'm sure there's some dudes that that come in there that are really, really nervous that that don't want to do this. 13, 14 year old boys, whatever, and they just wanna, you know, have a laugh and be done with it. I would rather just be complete silence. Don't talk to me. We'll talk after this is done. I I understand what you're doing. I know this is a medical reason to do this. Do what you do. Let's get it over with, not make it socially awkward. Lying and like 50 dudes gonna do the same thing right behind you. Exactly. Like Mike's in the corner smoking a cigarette. I'm going in there. Basically, we all know what happens, and he's just kinda sitting there telling knock knock jokes. I'm just like, I don't think I wanna answer this one, man. I'm not gonna say who's there. I'm not gonna say who's there. They would just do a count and be done. Exactly. One, two. Alright. Cool. That's good.

That's good. That's good. I love football. The guy The guy that I was in there with, he was an older guy, he's probably 70, whatever, he's just looking around, he's like, you know, once a month in the shower, just kinda check around down there. I'm like, isn't that why I'm paying you? I don't do my own diagnosis. Otherwise,

you owe me $10. Yeah. When the check engine light comes on, I cover it up with tape. That's where I'm at. Because if I can do this at home, I just came in for a group. I feel like you owe me 10. Alright. You're we gotta get out of here. Yeah. Yeah. You you made a mistake for listening to the podcast. I'm sorry. It's it's just what happens. Alright. You listen to Life in the Path.
