Segments
- Show open 0:00–0:39
The show opens from the Pathway Studios in Johnston Proper with the standard live-start. Hosts greet the listeners and settle in.
- Dressing for the season / body-heat banter 0:42–2:17
Opening banter about the change of seasons and what to wear: one host never gets cold (windows open at -50 wind chill), another radiates heat and is always cold — the theory being a poorly insulated body passes heat on, which is why holding his kids heats them up.
- Preview: Boova's Pope style 2:18–2:44
Preview of the Pope-style segment: the advice will be that worrying about your missional field away from where you are can mean missing the missional field where you are.
- Teaser: Crossway reverses the permanent-ESV decision 2:44–3:38
The hosts claim joking credit for influencing Crossway: after criticism over making the ESV Bible text permanent, Crossway reversed the decision — which the hosts frame as 'a fluid heresy problem' and note they were unsatisfied with Crossway's explanation.
- LifeWay survey of American theological views, part 1 3:39–10:59
The hosts walk through a LifeWay Research study of Americans' theological views: Bible authority (50%), God as author of Scripture (58%), bodily resurrection (64%), God's perfection (65%), answered prayer (66%), God accepting all religions' worship (64%), universal reunion with loved ones (60%) vs Christ-alone salvation (54%), works contributing to heaven (52%). They note contradictions, plus a side bit where Boova (speaker-0, addressed by name on-air) admits believing in UFOs.
- The marshmallow confession: grace and godly sorrow 10:59–17:37
Ben (speaker-1, addressed by name on-air) tells the story of his oldest daughter confessing over three nights that she had been lying about stolen marshmallows — a wave of honesty that became a lived lesson in grace: earthly consequences plus full forgiveness, and why godly sorrow matters more than fear of punishment.
- LifeWay survey, part 2: sin, hell, Jesus, Trinity, Holy Spirit 17:39–24:26
Survey walkthrough continues: hell as eternal judgment (40%), smallest sin deserving damnation (19%), God fair to show wrath (57%), most people good by nature (65%), sex outside marriage and abortion as sin (49% each), Jesus as the first and greatest created being (52%) vs one God in three persons (69%), the Holy Spirit as a force not a person (56%). The hosts conclude American Christians are confused at a base level.
- Crossway reads its reversal statement; scripture memorization 24:26–30:00
The hosts read Crossway president Lane Dennis's announcement reversing the permanent-text decision and discuss it: consistency for its own sake is silly, fidelity to Scripture requires openness to textual discoveries and language change. Tangent on scripture memorization — kaleidoscope of translations vs knowing principles and context — and a caution about yanking wedding verses out of context (Song of Songs).
- Pope-style intro: camping on the Pope's lawn 30:01–30:40
Comedy lead-in to the Pope-style segment: the hosts joke that listeners are camping on 'the pope's' lawn waiting for life advice, like the real Pope addressing the masses from the basilica.
- Boova's Pope style: the mission field where you are 30:41–40:14
Boova (speaker-0, addressed by name on-air) delivers the Pope-style advice from his own experience starting college: if God has not called you overseas, stop straining for the exotic and serve the unreached people already around you — coworkers, neighbors, classmates. The others agree: our idea of 'big' for God is worldly; one person meeting Jesus through you is big.
- Dear LFTP: Betty Jo and the vow-renewal cash grab 40:15–47:10
Boova reads a listener letter: coworker Betty Jo sent a poorly photocopied vow-renewal invitation reading 'Cash gifts are cheerfully accepted' and later demanded the knitter's custom Angora sweater project as a gift. The hosts role-play a firm refusal, read the secular answer (stop hiding, maintain polite distance), and mock vow-renewals as gift grabs when the crock pot breaks.
- Dear LFTP: the boyfriend who drunk-texts his ex-wife 47:13–50:22
Letter from a woman living with her boyfriend of 11 months: he stays in contact with his ex-wife, drunk-texts 'I love you' to her, and hasn't introduced his grown daughter. The hosts say alcohol tears down the walls and tells how he really feels — get out. The secular answer: address the drinking problem and why you haven't met the daughter.
- Brainstorm: what do you call adult 'boyfriends and girlfriends'? 50:22–51:28
Offshoot bit: 'boyfriend and girlfriend' sounds childish for fifty-somethings; the hosts riff on replacements — man friend, woman friend, romantic partner, significant other, silver foxes, she-dater/he-dater, and finally coin 'hebo' and 'shebo', which they'll poll on Twitter/Facebook (email info@livefromthepath).
- Dear LFTP: Jake's sister Michelle 51:28–56:57
Letter: boyfriend Jake's sister Michelle (26) openly dislikes the writer, lies about her, excludes her from events; the family shrugs 'that's just the way she is.' The hosts say Michelle is a schmuck you deal with, it shouldn't end the relationship, and Jake should stand up for his girlfriend. The secular answer is harsher — cut your losses — which the hosts reject as a jump.
- Repeated letter blooper: sister Dawn 56:58–59:13
Boova starts reading a letter about sister Dawn engaged to a detested controlling man — then the hosts recognize it as last week's letter: 'a first on Live From The Path — we had one job.' They bail, plug the hebo/shebo poll, and move to the quiz.
- Prayer quiz: ten questions 59:14–1:05:39
The hosts take a 10-question online Bible quiz on prayer: the hour of prayer in the temple (answered sixth hour), Romans 10:1, James 5:13 (afflicted/merry), James 5:16 (confess faults), Saul at Stephen's stoning, Cornelius the devout centurion, the lame man at the Beautiful gate, Paul's prayer for Corinth, 1 Thessalonians ('pray without ceasing'), James 5:15.
- Quiz scoring and Paul's 'be like me' 1:05:41–1:07:51
Answers graded: 7/10 — the hour of prayer is the ninth hour (Acts 3:1), not sixth; Paul's prayer for Corinth is 'that ye may become perfect' (2 Cor 13), not boldness; James 5:15's prayer of faith saves the sick (cited verbatim). Average score among ~18k takers since 2004 is 60%, so the hosts beat average. Prompted by 2 Cor 13, a reflection on Paul's 'be like me' — modern Christians fear setting a personal example as pride, but Paul relentlessly points people to his own imitation of Christ.
- Show close 1:07:51–1:08:13
Sign-off: thanks for hanging out, email comments to info at livefromthepath dot org, back next week; the tagline 'be faithful in the means, God will handle the ends.'

Live from the Pathway Studios in Johnston Proper. You are live from the Path. Hey. You're listening to Live From The Path. We're coming from the Pathway Studios here in Johnston Proper. Well,
hey. How are you? Who are you talking to me or are talking to the the folk? I'm talking to you. Oh, no. I think I'm doing alright. I'm a little hot. I'm having trouble it's a change of the season, and I'm having trouble deciding what to wear. I just wear shorts all year round. It's perfect. Yeah. I can't sustain that. That that weirds me out. Well, then you need to change your ways. No. No. I get I'm cold. Here's the deal. It's like, is it is it possible that that, your body or, like, my body does just is is poorly insulated?
Like, it doesn't insulate well? Yeah. Absolutely. Does that make sense? Certainly possible. Yeah. Because because, like, I I here's here's what I'm thinking is my my wife always says, like, if I hold one of the babies or the kids or whatever, let the kids really hot. Yeah. And that's not because you usually think, oh, that's because Ben's hot. But it really means because my body does not retain heat well and passes it on to other people. And so that's what gets the kid hot. And that's why I'm always cold, but, like, holding the baby always, like, heats the baby up. And that's why it's always I'm I don't have problems getting too cold at night because I'm losing so much heat, but then the blanket then retains such a thing. Interesting. I don't share your woes. I don't remember the last time I was cold at all. What? You don't remember the last time you were cold? I do not remember the last time that I felt that I was actually cold.
Like, we had negative 50 degree wind chills last year, and I had my windows open. Maybe you're an Inuit. It's definitely possible that if you have a small amount of insulation that, conversely, I have a large amount of insulation Maybe you're part of the retain heat incredibly well. Okay.
This is all seems viable. Alright. Here we go. Going on the show tonight. Boova's got some Pope style. Boova, you got preview on the Pope style? No. No. Are you still, like, thinking thinking it up? I'm I'm I'm thinking of the ending. No. So preview to it would be if you're spending so much time worrying about your missional field away from where you are that you're missing the missional field where you're at now, that might be an issue.
Okay. Alright. I like it. We'll we'll keep booboost pope style on that. I I we've influenced Crossway. We we had complaints about them making the ESV bible text permanent. We had a bunch of questions and said, look. We just don't understand why this is happening the way it is. And in response to that, I think it's the only thing I can logically deduce, They've changed their mind. They changed their ways. They've reversed their decision to make the, ESV bible text permanent. It is now, what's more, a fluid heresy problem.
So excited they listened to us. So, we'll, we'll read more about here's the deal. It's like, I actually wasn't very satisfied with their explanation. Like, they were pretty quick they were pretty quick about it, and they were pretty direct about it. But, like, I don't know. Like, I I kinda wanted some meat into their here's here's what we thought. Here's why we were wrong besides people reacted in poorly. And I didn't I'm not sure that I got it from their statement. But but anyway, they reversed their decision to make the ESV bible text permanent, so that will continue to float and change as language dictates.
There was there's also a they did a study on Americans' theological views, and it was crazy interesting, like, looking at what things things that you would otherwise believe versus what Americans
like, if whether they'd agree with it. For example, when it talks about the Bible, it says question was, the Bible has the authority to tell us what to do. 50% of Americans agree, 42% disagree, and 8% aren't sure. Interesting.
God is the author of scripture. 58% agree. Now check now check out the comparison between these two. 58% of Americans believe that God is the author of scripture, but only 50% say it has the authority to tell us what to do. Oh, man. So he's a small g god. What's that? You think so? He's a small g god in 8% of the people anyway. No. That's true. Well, I don't know. Like, what what do you think the concept of god is if they're like, it god wrote the scripture, but otherwise has no authority over me. It's that giant genie in the sky that's there to to
do what I want and help me when I need him, but I don't actually have to bow to him or call him my king. I just I feel like that there's there's just an inconsistency in there. Oh, yeah. It's foolish. Okay. It's a it's a it's a vague spiritual something out there, the force or something. You know? It's like Yeah. I believe in the airflow and maybe he wrote that a long time ago. Maybe he changed his mind now because we're enlightened.
No. Well, that seems possible. Here on bible accuracy, 64% agree that the biblical account of Jesus' bodily resurrections are accurate. That's interesting. Wow. That's more people. And they're okay to to just think whatever. Yeah. K. Here's the deal. Is and and this has come up a lot in conversations, people talking about Andy Stanley. So, like, you know, like, I think I understand that Andy Stanley, who's a pastor, has recently been, come under fire for some of the stuff that he's been saying. And I frankly, I think it's more how he's saying it. Yeah. I think so. And the concern and the ears of who's taking it in,
too harshly Alright. Which which probably aren't the people who are looking for Jesus. It's the people who've already met him and are trying to protect truth of that, and I I get it. Yeah. But, like, I I think I think his broad point really is that we always lean back on the accuracy of scripture and use that to validate some of the things that we believe. And that is our argument that we use to try to make rational arguments, I guess, to people who don't know don't know God and don't know Jesus. And, like and what he's saying is you're starting from premise of which they don't buy into that anyway, and so it's a lit it's not fruitful. But but, however, he leans on a a lot on,
on Jesus himself. Right? Like, if if what happened if if Jesus is who he says he is, if the things that the Bible talks about Jesus are true, then we have to relook at how we understand the Bible. And then everything that otherwise most Christians are leaning on starts to be open in the playing field. But a lot of times, like, we're just trying to push people over with scripture in a similar way, I would be just I wouldn't be changed. My mind wouldn't be changed if a a Muslim came up to me and said, but don't you know that the Quran says? And I would say, no. I don't, I don't care at all, really. Thank you. Thanks for sharing. And so that's interesting that 64% of Americans believe the biblical account of Jesus' resurrection is accurate and then take a a lowered description, a lower feeling on God is the author of scripture and the ability for the Bible to tell you what to do. So I I believe in the physical resurrection of Jesus, but that doesn't mean much.
Yeah. Right. I mean, maybe they figured it just happened to him rather than he said, you know, rather than God, like, this is happening. Yeah. It was like, well, wasn't that cool? It happened to him. Maybe it'll happen to me. I don't know. This is a unique subset of people of of a belief system where you if you believe that Jesus rose from the dead, but he is not God or that God is not the God that I believe it to be, then there has to be a third option of which no one really articulates as to what happened to Jesus. Yeah. Like, how did how did he do that? He wasn't actually dead. Like, that's what they're thinking. Interesting. Hold on. Okay. How many people believe in UFOs? Just in you know, wondering. That would be interesting. The Roswellians and Buva, do you believe in UFOs?
Do I yes. Like like alien life? You caught me. I believe in unidentified flying objects. Do okay. If it exists, does it really matter all that much to me? No.
It really doesn't. But who it it's possible. No. Yeah. I don't think it's impossible. Yeah. Okay. There's a lot of stuff out there. There's a lot of universe. God could not kinda just be holding that one back, and then, you know, someday we're gonna build a big enough telescope to see that there's another place that has a sweet, shiny city on it. We're like, wait a minute. Aliens. Cool. Alright. Alright. Means nothing to me. Hold on. Let's see. Here we go. Other questions. God is perfect and cannot make a mistake.
65% agree. You know that perfect guy whose son died and was resurrected? I don't believe that he has a ultimate say over my life. God answers specific prayers. 66% agree. That's 1% more than said he's perfect and can't make a mistake. Oh, man. Wow.
It's weird how it's getting more and more each time. It's here we go. God accepts the worship of all religions, including Christianity, Judaism Judaism, and Islam. 64% agree. What? But hold on. I I I can't put these together. Wait a minute. That's like me saying, hey. That happy birthday song you're singing to that other guy is to me also. Now hold on a second. It though that wording's weird. God accepts the worship. You know?
What? Okay. The the verbiage is weird, I can I think the intent would be that it doesn't matter who you're worshiping? God just says, hey. That's for me. Yeah. And then accept your worship as acceptable. That doesn't surprise me that that's that high of a number. It surprises me that there were so many people who believed in the physical resurrection of Jesus, though. Yeah. That's true. That continues to stick with me. The propaganda of Easter. Easter, buddy. Yeah. Because people have been taught tolerance and inclusion always, you know, their whole lives, and now they're in, you know, in their their twenties, and and and they they think, well, all roads lead to heaven. They've told that their whole life. So that doesn't shock me. I'm actually kind of surprised it was that low unless there were some senior citizens and people with thinking minds that were included in this pool.
Let's hold on. I have other questions about that number. Let's see what else we got here. Here we go. Heaven is a place where all people will ultimately be reunited with their loved ones. 60%. There we go. So 60% believe that. 64% that God accepts the worship of all religions, including Christianity, Judaism, and Judaism and Islam. Okay. I okay. Those things seem to go together. They're all going to heaven anyway. Yeah. Yeah. Only those who trust in Christ alone as their savior receive God's free gift of eternal salvation. 54%.
It boggles the mind the disparity between those two questions. I don't understand how all people will be ultimately reunited with their loved ones at 60 and only those who trust in Jesus at 54. You would think those would be flipped. Are they taking the same quiz? Like, are these questions near each other? Where someone's like, oh, crap. I look stupid here. Can I go back to I'm contradicting myself? My answer on number three, the one about everybody goes to heaven? By the good deeds I do, I partly contribute to earning my place in heaven. 52%. Oh, man. 52%. Boys, we got work to do. Oh, man.
Actually, I I'm a tell you what. This story is is, I don't know, funny not funny. So one of my one of my kids had we had found some marshmallows in in our pantry area. And, like, my wife goes, we had more marshmallows than this. They're like the big square ones that you that are made for s'mores. Right? Heck yeah. And so, like, we had a reasonably full bag before
according to my wife's remembrance. And we there was only, like, 10 left. So, like I mean, and there's, like, a hole in the marshmallow bag, and they've been in there for a month, maybe. But, like, some I mean, something happened. They but they were up on the scale And for so, you know, my wife's a little bit, I don't know, clearer minded than I. The are like, no. We didn't do it. I'm like, yeah. Maybe they didn't do it. Maybe we don't remember how many of marshmallows were there. Because, like, I don't have any idea. My wife's like, yeah. They someone made off of those marshmallows. I can't really prove anything, but, like, you know, once y'all took the marshmallows. The gut feeling. So so three days go by, and, like, like, every night, I was I was praying with my kids, and we were we were talking about you know, we usually pray for,
I don't know, just stuff that's going on around us and then, you know, forgiveness and then thanking for forgiveness and helping to change things that are that that are going on around us that we can control, that kind of stuff. And so all of a sudden, after that was over, my my oldest daughter starts to cry a little bit, and she goes, I didn't tell the whole truth about those marshmallows three days ago. And she's like, she's, you know, starting to weep, and she goes, I did. I had I had I had one. I did take an extra one that I didn't tell you about, and I'm really sorry. So that's alright. It's alright. There's consequences to that, obviously.
But it's it's, you know, freedom and truth and that kind of stuff. And we talked about forgiveness and all that stuff. It's fine. So she goes to bed. I go out in the living room. I'm out there maybe ten, fifteen minutes, then she comes back out. He's crying some more. And she said, I wasn't completely honest about the question. The wave of honesty. I had more than one, and it was like two or three or something. And it was it was a really cool time, to be honest with you, because we got to talk about forgiveness, and we got to talk about grace, and we got to talk about how it just feels better to be freedom and having told the truth.
And and and and she'd been she'd been talking about baptism for a while, and it had come up, like, about a week before, and she had said, you know, I just I want to do it. I just don't I just don't know. And I talked through the things that I thought, like, might be she might be trying to process. Is it just character of god stuff stuff to know? And she said, I just don't know. And then it came out that, like, that was one of the things she was really afraid of. She's like, I don't know how I could
that was holding me back because I knew that I had not told the truth on this thing. I'm like, well, like, it's not a works thing, but, like, I understand where you're coming from. Mhmm. So, anyway, she goes back to bed. About ten minutes, she comes she comes back out, and she goes, I don't I must I wanna make sure she's, like, crying crying. I wanna make sure you really understood, because I feel like you should be more mad.
And she's like, I I took I took that many. Like, I I ate the marshmallows. And, like, it was such a cool Yeah. It was That's awesome. I what I was praying afterwards was, thank you. It was such a cool gift because, like, it's one of those things where you talk to your kids about understanding God's grace and forgiveness and, like, freedom from sin and things like that. And, like, the truth is is, like, those are all empty words until you actually feel it. When you look Yeah. When you look someone in the eye, like, she's sitting next to me, and I'm, like, hugging her and saying, look, babe, there's you you probably can't have, s'mores for the next few times we camp. You took stuff that you shouldn't have done. I mean, there's just worth earth earthly consequences to the thing you did. I said, also, you're gonna have to work on, you know, people believing you. Like, you can't be upset when people don't believe you. You tell lies. So, you know, we'll we'll work from that. But, like, it's how you can go and say, no. I don't I deserve someone to be really mad at me. I deserve someone to be upset. I feel like there should be more punishment. I don't understand why no one is mad. And, like, I feel, like, more guilty than how you're reacting, and I feel like that's not fair. And, like, it was such a cool demonstration on her level of grace, and I was so excited about it. Yeah. Yeah. Well, scripture says, you know, godly sorrow leads to repentance, and worldly sorrow leads to death. Yeah. It's it's good to see godly sorrow Yeah. In your children. You know? Yeah. Yeah. It was and so, like,
I don't know. It just it it made me think that, like, when we when I said that by the good deeds I do, I partly contribute to earning my place in heaven 52%. Like, the problem is is and I I see this in my own raising of my kids, is, like, some of the aspects of God's character are hard to describe to them. They're very intangible for kids. And so the things that they latch onto are, are behavior changes. Like, how do I act differently? And, like, certainly, as a parent, I want to try to guide how they behave. But, like, getting them to the point where they can start understanding those bigger concepts of who God is, what grace and mercy actually means,
and how that relates to the behavior stuff that we've been talking about. It's it's just a cool conflict of stuff to see. You know? Yeah. Yeah. And you know what? A lot of a lot of Christian parents miss this because they just give their kids a list of dos and don'ts and don't tell them the why. Right. And so they grow up and go to college, and and they never had the why. So it's like, hey. Nobody's here to give me the list. So I can do whatever I want. You know? And they don't know. It's because you have this sovereign god who's watching over you and and, you know, and and they miss that. Yeah. And that that's a disservice. I mean, you know, it's just that maybe no one taught these parents or something. I don't I don't know. But it it's it's a miss that Yeah. Needs to be corrected if you want your children to live with you eternally. Well, yeah. Exactly. Exactly. Like, give them a framework to understand who God is as opposed to just like, I mean, whatever. People blow up a list. They'll figure out some sort of perversion to go around your stupid list. Something that that wasn't on it. But, like, that was one of the things she was real worried about is she was worried, you know, like, it it just kept bothering me, and and it wouldn't go away, and I've been, like, you know, is God mad at me? I said, babe, like like, I would it's concerning it would be concerning to me if I had no none of that. Right? Or if I have a god who said who's kinda knocking at the door and saying, yeah. It's separating from me. Like, these are things that you're doing that are bad for you. There can be freedom from this. No. I'm not gonna let you go. Like, that's a cool thing to know to think as opposed to, like, God's trying to make me feel guilty of, like it's just someone who wants to do it looks at God in that way so they can write it off and kinda do the stuff they want as opposed to saying, like, God loves me enough to continue to persist on something that is otherwise causing separation from us. And he's he's, like, doling out freedom, and you're running from it. So, like, just react to that knocking the right way, and that's very cool.
Dan's right. We got a lot of work to do if we're at 52%. I mean, you should be doing good deeds, but not because you're earning your place in heaven, but because where does that really come from? I mean, I suppose you can get one of the Gnostics or somewhat. I mean, there's some deep philosophical thing. But, I mean, just the average Joe who doesn't have any they're not following any other gods. You know? They're just raised in society, doing life. Yeah. Why do they think that? It's probably a sense of personal justice. Right? Like, it that that's, that's how it would work on their level. Yeah. When it when when when you don't have the capability of excessive grace, of the ability to sacrifice to the extent that Jesus does for others, what's within your realm to do is say, I should do more good than bad. It's very utilitarian. Yeah. It's the concept of if I do bad, I get punished. If I do good, I get rewarded.
But actually, to to what Dan was saying though, that's very much because we don't deal in we don't deal in character. We deal in in consequence. We deal in and some of our moral truths, in quotes, are guided by the impact of things. Right. Like, if that's why we can say things like, hey. I I can watch porn all the time, and it's not hurting anybody. A, you're wrong, but b and b, it harms you, but c, your determine of what is good or what is not good is completely based on whether you see a tangible reaction in somebody's life to the thing that you're doing. Yeah. It's a false sense of justice. But so, like, it's it's really just a limited it's the application of our human limitations of justice shy of the concept of God who has a greater sense of justice and good.
And so that's probably what it is. It's just an attempt this that that's that's think about that, though. The application to that is is that this is what this is what it will look like under our own sense of justice. Mhmm. It would be our ability to do good and earn our earn our keep. It's it's it'd be interesting to see that same question in other countries. Like, our American sense of, I contribute to my own path, our understanding, flawed or otherwise,
that that we determine, where we go in life based upon what we do and what we don't do. I wonder what that looks like in societies that that are structured a little bit differently if that doesn't move a little agnostic of their religious beliefs, their sense of justice in heaven and and whatever that is. That'd be interesting to see. Yeah.
Hold on. There's a hold on. Hell hell is an eternal place of judgment where God sends all people who do not personally trust in Jesus Christ. Interesting. That's 40% agree. So only those who believe in heaven then believe in hell. Yeah. Only those who trust in Jesus alone will go to heaven 54. Hell is an eternal place of judgment where God sends people 40. Interesting. Disparity I between have that is consequences, but there's not negative consequences. How about the was it the everyone goes to heaven, like 65%,
something like that? Yes, 60. 60. So there's a sixty-forty cut. No, yes. Yes. Everyone goes to heaven, hell is an eternal place of judgment. Okay. Sin and condemnation. Even the smallest sin deserves deserves eternal damnation. 19% agree, 74%
disagree, 7% are not sure. I like that I like that not sure guy. You know, I'm not sure on that small sin. Maybe, maybe not. I you know, I wonder if you worded that differently. I wonder if you said even the smallest sin causes eternal separation from God
if that that shifts your numbers. Probably not by much, but maybe not. Because because they're not seeing themselves worthy of hell. They're not seeing themselves as separated from God. I'm just doing my own thing. I just don't know who God is, but I'm not separated from him. No. That's true. If there is one. Whatever he is, I'm not yeah. I'm not separated. I know. I'm on a good path. God would be fair to show his wrath against sin, 57% agree. Oh. Just not my sin. Or or their measure of sin. Like, if they said the smallest well, actually so they're they're even they're quantifying sin as big small Yeah. In such a way that someone says it's okay for God to show his wrath against sin, but that's 57%.
That means you have a substantial number of people, 38%, who would think that that's not true for small sins. So basically, they made some distinctions like, well, wrath against that is not okay. Everyone sins a little, but most people are good by nature. 65%
agree. 28 disagree. 6% are not sure. That's these not sures are kind of interesting. 6%, we're not sure that everyone sins a little.
7%, we're not sure that even the small sins deserve internal damnation. But double that, 16%, we're not sure whether it would be fair for God to show us wrath against sin. Well, hold on. What was this one? The is the following behavior sinful? Sex outside of marriage, 49% agree, less than half.
Same percentage agree that abortion is sinful. Interesting. That's interesting. The equivalent Who did that study? Oh, that survey. Excuse me. LifeWay. LifeWay Research. Gotcha. Jesus should go with the wine here.
Hold on a second. Hold on a second. Jesus is the first and greatest being created by God. 52% agree. No. I mean, he is What what was what was the statement again? Jesus is the first and greatest being created by God. Oh, wow.
So hold on. That's 52%. Now hold on. There is and then in in the question, there is one true God in three persons, father, son, and holy spirit. 69% agree to that. I don't know if that's not greedy. Yeah. Well, I don't understand.
I think We got a lot of work for you. Damn. I was gonna say You're right. Would a lack of understanding on the situation. We're not saying things wreck correctly. We've confused something somewhere. I mean, here's the deal. I get that the that that concept is difficult to parse, but, like, obviously, we're not we're not, you know, we're not maybe we gotta go back to pamphlets. Yeah. This base level, people aren't getting it. Oh, we're going back to bible tracks. Interesting. Okay. Anyway to the fairgrounds next year with bible tracks.
Hey. I wanna make certain that you understand the trilogy. Case in case you go to a survey, here's the answer. Boy, I just I don't know. Some of those are really surprising me. Well, maybe not. Maybe not. Let's hold on. What was the there was one more that I thought was interesting. Where was it? The holy spirit is a force, not a personal being, 56%. Now here's the things. I don't know
I mean, that's kinda that that seems like they're I I'd be I would expect a higher not sure category. I'd say that even read that three times. What what are they saying that? I yeah. I would have to take a second look at that one. Yeah. Yeah. Only because I'd I'd it's an attempt to box something in where, I mean, feel You really shouldn't. Yeah. Alright. Anyway, I that was a pretty interesting American views. We had overwhelming agreement with Dan. We just got more to do here. Go America. Well, it was good to work, boys. So we're talking about the Crossway decision reverses decision to make the ESV Bible text permanent. It said the publisher of the English Standard Version of the Bible has reversed its controversial decision to finalize the text after tweaking 29 verses. We've become convinced that this decision was a mistake, stated Crossway President and CEO, Lane Dennis, in announcement released today. The fellows at Live From The Path proposed some interesting questions, and we agree
that we've gone too far this time. Absolutely. We apologize for this and for any concern that this has caused for readers of the ESV, and we want to explain what we now believe to be the way forward, Our desire above all is to do what is right before the lord. Wait. That was the end? Yeah. Like So they didn't actually go and explain it? No. No. That's what I'm saying. It's like they said what they were gonna do go forward. They said this means to that goal, we now see is not to establish a permanent text, but rather to allow for ongoing periodic updating of the text to reflect the realities of biblical scholarship Yeah. Such as textual discoveries or changes in English over time. Good. That's what we said. Yeah. These kinds of updates will be minimal and infrequent, but fidelity scripture requires that we remain open in principle to such changes. Yeah. Yeah.
Okay. Yeah. Yeah. If something really obvious pops up, you don't say, oh, no. Nope. Nope. Yeah. Yeah. If something big happens, you don't just go, well, that's not part of the schedule. You'll find the original writings of Paul. Yeah. We'll go back to that in fifty years. It's like, no. I feel like there's some stuff you need to do now, boys. Yeah. I mean, like, I mean, I I granted, I'm glad they reversed it. I you know, it it makes sense. It addressed a lot of the stuff we were talking about when we were, you know, discussing. And maybe it's not necessary, but I I mean, I'm just interested in, like, where were you wrong?
Like, it just like, if you're gonna describe it, it'd just be interesting to think because, like, we thought this. We thought the permanent text would be good. Here's why we I don't know. It just seems like we did I would have liked to see a little bit more. I'm I'm gonna assume they probably did that because a lot of people left the NIV because they felt like they were politicizing the words rather than just,
you know, translating them. And they probably thought, nope. We're not doing that. Right. And I thought, well, yeah, they had to kinda backtrack a little bit because, hopefully, their principle still is not to politicize it. Right. Let's run so far away from that NIV deal. We'll just shut down the ESV. And they wanted I mean, they talked they compared it to, like, the King James. Like, you wanted a permanent version. I just don't know. That seems like a oh, what is it? Who what's the quote? Consistency
is the hobgoblin of what is it? Little minds. Basically, like, if you're if you're being consistent simply for the virtue of being consistent, that's silly. Right? And to say to be able to say the ESV text is final when, like, you know that there are things that could improve how close we otherwise rendering language to meet,
the scripture as it was created, like, good like, why would you ever nail yourself down to that Right. Fallible consistency. Right? Yeah. Like, and and it's like, who does it appease but but someone who probably need like, we probably need to do a better job of understanding where our translations come from and why it's perfectly fine that that shifts over time Right. In minor ways. Right? Right. Right. I suppose the people that really up get upset about this is the people who are big in the scripture memorization. Yeah. And they're and they're really pushing that Because, like like, some a lot of my scripture memorization is really weird because I remember some from King James childhood and some from NIV and some from, like, good news when I went through that phase for six months. Right. And, you know, and and so I have this whole kaleidoscope of
words. And I just I've always been more interested in knowing the principles. And so
but that would mess you up if you're really big on getting every word detail down from memory. So they would fight that a little bit. No. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's true. Although, I wish I do wish I'd memorize scripture easier. Like, I really stink at it. I was talking to a guy last week, and we were just talking about kind of his I don't know, his how he came to Jesus. And, like, he was citing verses all over the place, kind of offhand, and I thought, I have no skill. I got no skill at all. I haven't I couldn't I mean, I can tell you general areas. Yeah. Yeah. Middle of Matthew. And sometimes,
those are the guys you got to watch out for. No, true. True. But they're somewhat intimidating too. At the same time, you're like, where are coming from? Could you start putting a line of scriptures together from various places, and now you come up with this doctrine, and, you know, you're just ripping off the oh, yo. This this verse says that, that says and Timothy over here and and Titus there. And you're like, slow down a little bit. You know what mean? So maybe you should go back and memorize the context.
That's that's the problem. Yeah. Yeah. If you know if you're big on making sure your context is right, you're memorizing, like, paragraphs and chapters, not verses. Here. Yep. Let me tell you a paragraph from Timothy so I can get to this one sentence. Because that's that's that's so key. It's so it's so critical. Yep. I was in fact, I was trying to I was doing some writing today for a for a wedding that's coming up. And, like, just for a gas, I went and and googled, like, popular scripture for for weddings. And, Dan, I'm sure you've run into this. Like, I started reading them, like, that's not in the right content. That's not for marriage. Sweet. What? What the heck is that? Like, you there's a there's a popular song of songs. Right? And then, like, you can't read before or after. That's weird. There's weird stuff about brothers and sisters, and you're like, I don't come on, man. You gotta be careful. You're just yanking stuff out of here.
Alright. Alright, Buva. So someone called me earlier this week. Oh, yeah? And they said I met the pope. Oh, buddy. And I said, you did not meet the pope. And they started to describe this pope, and I thought, good night. That's Buva. Oh, buddy. And That's a big deal. And so, anyway, they were saying that they were gonna go camp out on this on the pope's lawn until he gave out some sort of advice, life advice, just like the real pope does when he walks out on the basilica. Right. And he speaks to the masses. And so I'm afraid, Bouby, you're gonna have to give some level of pope style advice here for you to these people to scatter off your lawn. So what do you got for them? Hey, man. I was wondering who those people were. So I recently started attending college, And I cannot tell you from a from, like, a a missional perspective. I am so stinking excited.
Like, there's so much stuff to do there and so many conversations. And I thought I was gonna be one of the only Jesus lovers that shows up because I've heard about campus missions and stuff like that. Like, there's a lot of unreached people. Dude, everybody talks about Jesus on campus. It is awesome. Seriously. Sweet? It is I kid you not. I I run into conversations that I don't even start probably three times a day where people just wanna talk about Jesus. So I'm like, yeah, buddy. Let's get it. And so my postal advice has to do with the fact that if you're spending so much time
trying to figure out where God could send you. Right? So you're thinking to yourself, you know, God, I I feel like I'm stagnant in my faith. You know, I want you to to send me over across the world to some part of South America. Or, you know, I've really been figuring out that there's some stuff that needs to happen over, you know, in The Middle East, and I really wanna go. And God's not telling you to go. Don't force that and spend so much time on it. There's a chance that, like, you gotta realize the place where you're at now, there are unreached people. There are plenty of people around where you are, where where they need to hear about Jesus too. Now I'm not in any way putting down leaving your your home and going, to a different part of The United States or a different part of the world to go
preach about Jesus, that's a huge deal, and that's awesome. If God's calling to do that, you better go. Like, you got you got work to do. Right? But at the same point in time, like I said, if you're if you're focusing so much on, where God could send you and you're not hearing that from him, and you're wondering why God isn't sending you to do go do profound things, there's a chance that you're where you need to be. I've wanted to go, across the world for quite a while now to go find some missional field where, you know, I go to Middle East to talk about Jesus, or I go find myself in North Korea talking about Christ. Right? Like, I would I would love that. That'd be awesome. I am ready for that. But God has never called me to that.
I've prayed on that for years, and God has never once said, Buva, you are going to, x country in Europe. Right? You're you're going to this country in Asia. I've never gotten that. And for years, that has bugged me. You know, I've wondered why why is God not sending me to these different places? Why is God not taking me? Like, I've I've got friends who have gone across the world and have spent years, spending time developing, churches or spending time talking about Christ. And then I've got friends that have gone all over the world in in Africa and and and in Asia and all over the place. Right? And I just sit here and I think, god. I'm just in Des Moines, Iowa. Like, what what am I doing here? Like, I'm not doing crazy stuff for you. I'm not going and being persecuted for you.
Am I lacking in faith? Am I lacking in execution for that? And just kinda recently going to school, realizing that there's a huge, enormous missional field among college students where people are either talking about Jesus, and I can join in on that, or people have never heard about Jesus and I can jump in on that and I can really help with that. Or sometimes there's people talking about Jesus that just don't really get Jesus.
And, and sometimes they kinda have to hop in there too and go, hey, man. I I appreciate your heart, but let's talk about the real good news. I'm excited, and I'm reinvigorated from the perspective of, God has kind of closed off a prayer that I've had for a while, which has been, you know, God, where are gonna send me next? Right? Where am I gonna go? When do I get to leave Des Moines? And when do I get to go do some crazy huge trip that I'll talk about for the rest of my life? And he's just kinda said recently, hey, man. I'm a send you three,
four miles out of your normal path, and then, you're gonna spend the majority of your time with a whole new group of people you never thought even existed or never thought about once. And you got a lot of work to do. And I I can't tell you how refreshing it is to have that answered and how exciting it is to be,
pointed in that direction in a good way. You know, I love I love when I feel like God's really telling me to do something and I get a chance to go do it. And so like I said, my Pope stock kind of comes down to, if you're not being called to go do some crazy weird mission where you're off in some random country or you're leaving your home to even go, you know, 20 miles down the road. Right? If you're not feeling that calling, maybe God's telling you that you are already in the right place, and you need to do work in your social circle now, whether that be where you're at in school, whether that be where you're at at work. You know, somebody that sits across from you may need Jesus, you're thinking about going to, to Saudi Arabia to talk about Jesus when Jim across the way doesn't even know him.
Your neighbors could not know about him. And it's it's it's a really cool deal when God kinda refocuses you and says, hey. I've got people who are gonna be sent across the world. I need you to work where exactly where you are right now. That that's that's that's so true. I I remember when was in in college, we'd had all these missionaries would come, you know, and speak, and we get to hang out with them and go out and eat meals with them and, you know, all that stuff. And and they have all these stories, you know, and and and it's so sexy and it's so romantic and so whatever. You're just like, know, I'm going do that. It's so, you know, you risked your life or someone, know, my my partner died or, you know, and you're thinking, man, that's scary, but I I want part of that, you know, you're you're definitely willing to do anything you want. But I remember it was so relieving to me to to kind of come to that same conclusion to go, shoot, there are literally hundreds of thousands of people within a few miles of me that from number one, if I'm not reaching them, I'm not going to reach the other people either. I mean, what kind of fool are you, really? I'm going to suddenly become Mr. Evangelism? I mean, know you are who you are, right? So it was so freeing to go, wait,
yes, I've got people right here, and I am uniquely gifted to talk to these people. I don't know Spanish. I don't know Arabic. I don't know their culture. I could study it and all that stuff, sure. But I'm already know this stuff. And that was very freeing for me to say, God said, it's okay for you to spend your life here. It's okay for you to do this. As matter of fact, I need people to do this because there's a lot of people not doing it.
That survey Exactly. We a We got a lot of work left in America. No. I'm with you. And that that's true in that sometimes we think that, god's big and exotic is equivalent to man's big and exotic. Right? Like Right. We say big exotic takes me halfway around the world. Like, what does halfway around the world mean to Jesus? I better get a passport. Yeah. I'm doing god's work. I need to go speak to the tribes that have never seen human beings outside of their own in the Amazon. It's like, well because they're gonna listen to me. Yeah. It's like, hey. You know Gary, the guy you see at the gas station? He needs me too.
You're seven hundred pounds. You're white. You're six nine. You're a beast. I was like, that's not gonna work. So yeah. So get off my lawn. Yeah. No. No. No. I that's that's good. That's good. I don't yeah. It's faithful to means. Right. Right? Like like, those are your those are your means. That's what God's got you surrounded in. Right? And, like, you have you know, actually, that's come up in conversations a few times over the last six months with some people about their jobs and their feeling like, hey. Am I am I doing enough? And they've kinda got in their mind,
you know, are there some bigger things that I'm supposed to be doing for for Jesus? And, like, again, our concept of bigger is skewed. Like, we're trying we we measure it by how you would measure a worldly success on as a CEO of a company or as a I don't know if you ran a nonprofit. But, like, you don't run a nonprofit, and you're not a CEO of a company. Like, are you following Jesus? And are you, you know, talking to your friends around you? Or do you, you have a unique relationship with your coworkers that I don't have, that you don't have? And so, like, you know, those are big. Yeah. Here's the one guy. One guy meets Jesus through you talking to him. You'll recognize what what's being said here. Right? Yeah. Yeah. Generally, these are concerns for people who are like, I don't know what to do. I haven't been doing anything. What's the big thing I'm supposed to do? It should show Jesus Jesus that I do hard work and earn my way into heaven 52%. You know, we feel like, you know, no one's asked us to write a book or to speak at a conference, so we must not be doing enough. Right. You know, because obviously, God you know, if I was doing big stuff for God, people would notice. And they want me to tell them how to do it, and everybody would think I'm great. There may have been a point in in a prideful booba life where where I legitimately thought to myself, am I doing work that would show up in the bible?
Now I'm not about me someday. I'm not saying that I'm not saying that was a recent time. I'm just saying there was a time in Buva's life when he really didn't know Jesus, and he goes, hey, man. Am I doing enough work that God would write a new version of the bible for, like, two thousand years from now? And then he goes, hey, man. The book of Troy. The book of Buvah. Oh, man. That's disgusting, buvah. It's totally disgusting. That's gross. I agree. And that's why I have I have given up that. Hey, man. Ananias and Sapphira made the Bible. That's That's a promise to And you know what's funny? Is that's totally what I the kind of stuff I did not think about. Because most of the stuff in the Bible, it's not happiness. It's not most Enochs. Right? Yeah. It's the most situations is, hey. God's gonna show you some cool things that he did for people, but they didn't do cool things at all. Yeah. They were really screwed up people because they were human beings. Yeah. I don't wanna be the guy who's sitting on a pot and get stabbed by a knife. Right. Exactly. I don't wanna be the guy that goes, hey. I love Jesus. I love Jesus. Hey. That guy's wife is hot.
I'm gonna have him killed. Right? Like, that's that's not the story I want. Yeah. Yeah. That's roof time. Yeah. Be careful what you wish for. Yeah. Truth. Get off the ladder. Show up as a new Job. Bad deal. Okay. Alright. Bubba, what do we people need advice. Oh, man. What do we got? Seriously, there are some social situations that people just do not know how to handle, and they have they have reached think we're here. Good thing good thing the wonderful dudes at Live From Path are here to listen to their woes.
Dear, Live From The Path, a woman I'll call Betty Jo works in my office. We are only casual acquaintances. We speak in passing when time permits, but she has never invited me to lunch with her or suggested any interaction outside the job. About three months ago, Betty Jo mentioned that she and her husband were planning a renewal of wedding vows and said she was going to invite me. In my mailbox at work, I found a poorly photocopied version of a formal invitation with the following handwritten at the top in large block letters, Cash gifts are cheerfully accepted. I did not plan on attending. Hold
on. Since I felt that if Betty Jo really wanted me, she could have at least sent me an original invitation to my home. Here's where it gets better. Two weeks ago, while knitting during my lunch break, Betty Jo came up to me and asked about the item I was working on. She then informed me that since I hadn't yet given her a gift, I could complete my knitting project and give it to her. Oh, man. Dear Life of the Path, I was flabbergasted. It's a custom designed Angora sweater, a gift for a cherished friend. I mumbled something about being busy as a bee with projects to complete. And since that day, I've gone out of my way to avoid any contact with Betty Jo. I've even managed to find an office with a door that locks in which to take my breaks. First, am I behind the times or is requesting money on an invitation a new trend?
Second, why would this rude and clueless woman request such an elaborate gift from someone she barely knows? Third, how do I handle funeral future interactions with her at the office? Please don't reveal my name. Bothered and bewildered. Yeah. I mean, here's the thing. I I suppose, like, to start off, you you probably nailed it. She's clueless. Right. Right? And so, you know, if I would relook at everything through that lens.
Like, obviously, I the second part, although makes her look ridiculous, probably reinforces the fact that she doesn't I don't know. She doesn't have a legit concept of what it is she's actually doing or how it could be received. And so, you know, I I would probably invest less in the fact that she is rude, and more in the fact that she is clueless.
And I don't know what to I don't know what to say to her, though. Hey. I no. I can't make it to the wedding or I'm not coming. Yeah. I mean, it's okay to not go to a wedding. Yeah. I mean, there's things going on. Yeah. No. You don't have lives. I can't make it. Not gonna make it. So how would you confront this gal? Like, if she tries to come up to you again at work, how are you gonna talk to Betty Jo? You give you you be her, and I'll see what I do. Oh, hey, Karen. I noticed how I still have not gotten that nice Angora sweater you were making. Did you remember that I asked for that specifically? I did. Unfortunately, I was already knitting it for a dear friend of mine.
But I asked for that? Yes. I hear I heard, and I hope you have a a very nice wedding. But I like I said, I I was knitting it for a dear friend of mine. Do you think you can make a second one for me? I don't know that I'll get around to that. Well, this seems unfair. Unfair how? As I walk away. Well, there we go. Feel like under your breath.
I feel like I dealt with that just fine. I'm not both busy as a bee. Busy as a bee. The only thing that I wish I had done, I wish I had been firmer. I wish I'd not have said, I don't think I'll get around to that. I'll say, no. I won't get around to that. I should have been just a hair firmer on that. But other than that, I feel like I nailed it. Alright. Fine. Yeah. It's not that hard. Yes. Just just, nope. Nope. That's not gonna You hear what Seiko has to say? Oh, hold on. Now what if we I I kinda like this game, though, Buva. What if she says after you say, no. I'm not gonna do that. I say, why not? Now what do you do? Man, I feel like I'd be perfectly fine with going, I I feel like we're not good enough friends for you to have invited me to this deal, especially just asking for stuff. I don't know. I I feel like I'm just fine not giving you anything. Oh, man. I thought we were much closer than that. Yeah. You were mistaken.
Alright. I'm gonna cry. Well, that's fine. Right before my wedding. Well, that's well, that's just fine. You enjoy that. Hey, man. I thought I feel like I handled mine without being a jerk. You're kind of a No. You're a heartless jerk. To the point where where you were just denying the fact of making her the the second thing. I know that's I was I was handling any future relationship that she didn't want, which was, no. I'm fine with you crying right now. That's okay. Yeah. I mean, better deal, when we would if and when we become dear friends, we can renegotiate this sweater. But given that we're only casual acquaintances, and I frankly locked the door behind me on my break to keep you from talking to me Right. I will not be making you a sweater. Exactly. It's like, hey. I have no desire in any way, shape, or form to socially try and get to know you. Yeah. Chill, catch cold, and die for what I care. Love, booba. Hey, man. I don't know if it goes far as that that last part, that send off you said. Saved me with that sweater. That was her. What is this? The Oregon Trail where I'm knitting knitting them sweaters for their safety? Alright. What is that? What what does secular say? Alright.
Dear bothered, you were not behind the times. To request a gift of money, cash yet, is still regarded by most people as bad manners. I mean, that is kind of I mean, that's looks like you're gonna buy heroin. Yeah. I love Like, why are you asking for cash? Deal. There's something wonderful about a photocopied wedding invitation that says, hey. Cash donations, very well accepted. That's awesome. Your coworker asked, you for the sweater. You were knitting because she either has a lot of nerve or doesn't know any better. Yeah. Please stop trying to hide from her. You don't have to feel defensive for not attending a renewal ceremony or giving her a gift. Oh, shoot. I forgot. Was just forgot that. Yeah. It wasn't even a wedding. You know, we're bringing this woman had been married already and just went, hey. Bob and I have loved each other for the past fifteen years, and we wanna just ever tell everybody again. It sounded like I'm gonna do that. But yeah. They, like, sounded like they said We wanna give that when that first crock pot breaks? Our towels are getting old. We need to renew. Is that like, hey. We got married fifteen years ago. That crock pot, we need a new one. Hey, everybody. Renewal vows.
That's true. Marriages don't make it that long. Really, you make it fifteen, twenty years. People should be buying you new ties. That is the truth. Yeah. If you if your marriage has lasted longer than a crock pot, you deserve a new crock pot. Yeah. Agreed. Sweet. Last bit is you don't have to feel defensive for not attending a renewal ceremony or giving her a gift. Just maintain a polite and consistent distance and continue to socialize with others as you always have. What does that mean for a consistent distance? Like, constant fifteen, twenty eight seconds? She starts moving towards you, you start moving away. You think she's real awkward. You're playing a constant game of Pac Man.
You sit down in one stall. She sits the next. You gotta get up, and you move to the next stall. It's like, hey, Karen. Is this 15 feet or not? No. Okay. I gotta move. Boy, yeah. That's that's that's weird. I that's that's a weird thing to say at the end there. Alright. What else? Alright. Let's see here. Dear live from the past, I have been living with my boyfriend for eleven months. Mhmm. Things are mostly good, but there are a few things I need your advice on. He still hasn't introduced me to his grown daughter, and he stays in contact with his ex wife. When he gets drunk, he texts her and tells her he loves her and wants to go back home to her. But when he's sober, he insists he loves only me and wants us to spend our lives together. Do you think he's still in love with her or does he really love me? I've talked to his friends. They say he loves me and not her because he wouldn't have he wouldn't be with me if he didn't. Loves me, loves me not. Do not ask another man's friends for advice. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I can't imagine trying to give any kind of good relationship advice for a lady. Dude, they're gonna cover him. That's I mean Yep. There's no doubt about it. That's true. They're not just gonna be like, no. He really doesn't love you. Yeah. Alcohol doesn't lie. You should leave him. Lowers the boundaries or the yeah. The boundaries of the walls he's built. It tears him down, tells him how he's really feeling. Yeah. Get out of there. Move out directly. Yeah. You have you have a a weird situation if you're 11 a boyfriend eleven months now will text his his ex wife went drunk.
That's that's just a weird deal. I mean, here's the thing. He's got they they share a daughter. Like, them being in contact isn't necessarily a concern. Like, obviously, the she's an adult daughter, though. They're like they're not, like, talking about the homecoming dance. He still hasn't introduced me to his grown daughter. Yeah. Okay. I would assume adult. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's true. I mean, you know, luckily, unfortunately, I'm not there. But if I had a a wife and an adult daughter and we were divorced, I that'd be like it'd be done. I'd be like, you know, when I divorce them and I leave them, they're gone. They're Well, mean, mean, you don't live with them and probably stop having sex, but I feel like, you know, the occasional phone call or text doesn't mean you have to, like, completely not care about them. What does it mean you don't care, but it's just like just you're you're out of my life. I mean, you you were divorced. That's what the divorce is. Right? No. That's what I'm saying. Like, I feel like the divorce just means you're not married. I don't know if it means you have to be out of your life. I couldn't be that close.
And I mean, I understand I understand. Yeah. Yeah. I just don't know if it has to be that. But in either case, yeah, the the advice still stands. I think you need to get out of there directly. Alright. Fair enough. Here's what Secular says. Do I think your boyfriend is still in love with his ex? Let me put it this way. He still has feelings for her, but whether they are strong enough that she's a threat to your relationship, I can't be sure. What does need addressing because you and he have been living together for nearly a year is why you haven't met the daughter and the fact that this man may have a drinking problem. Once you do, you'll find the answers you're looking for. How does this not come up? Like, it had to have come up already. Right? What? Why do you get drunk and text your old lady? And can I meet Catherine, your daughter? Like
like, it also implies, like, that means the daughter never comes to the house. Yeah. Or comes Maybe there's not a good relationship with the daughter. Well, I don't know. I've well, assuming she's being fair, you feel like you would have mentioned that. Hey. She's a he's estranged from his daughter, but I haven't met her, I hold it against him. Like, that would be weird. Yeah. Yeah. Alright. Alright. It's a bad deal. So it's a little little off this, but
is it just me or is it I I was they need to come up with a new word, like, for adult people who are, like, in their fifties or sixties that are dating. But boyfriend and girlfriend just sounds sounds weird. It sounds childish. It does. Man friend and woman friend sounds creepy, Dan. I don't know. Yeah. You're right. I mean and maybe it's just because, you know, it's been thirty years since I've had a girlfriend. It could could be just me. I mean No. Right. But it does does bring to mind. Oh, you're in high school. No. You have adult children. No. Yeah. Yeah. That's true. That's true. What if they refer to each other as silver foxes? Elder My silver fox, Karen. My romantic partner.
I don't know what you call him. My romantic partner sounds like you're cheating, Dan. I say silver foxes. What? How how do I know whether it's a dude? It doesn't matter. Like, you probably say significant other. That again raises the question of whether or not it's a dude.
Well Yeah. I mean, bor boyfriend girlfriend, I feel like is distinct. That just kinda clarify. Yeah. It's just me. I feel like my resident silver fox is the sweetest way to say that. Alright. I wanna I'll put the thing on it. I got a couple things that might fly. I'm just gonna book you. Silver Fox is deadling your hands. Alright. You ready for another one? Yeah. Go ahead. Dear live from the path. I've been with my boyfriend Jake for two years. Mhmm. We are both 32. Since the beginning, his sister, Michelle, who is 26, has never liked me. Jake admits there's no reason for it. He thinks she's just looking out for him because he's had bad relationships in the past. Michelle makes me feel very uncomfortable during family events by making rude comments,
and she makes a point of excluding me from any event she is hosting. She has told people that I shoved her and accuses me of refusing to let her talk to her brother. Neither is true. I've asked Jake to ask his sister to apologize and make amends, but he insists she'll do it when hell freezes over. He thinks I should try to make amends even though I have never done anything wrong. I'm at a loss. I don't think I should apologize for something I've never done. Laugh of the path. She has belittled me in any encounter we've had. The rest of the family shrugs and says, that's just the way she is. Michelle has never liked any of Jake's girlfriends, so this seems to be a pattern for her. I'm afraid it will eventually lead to the end of Jake's Jake's and my relationship. I love him very much, and I wish he could see my side in this. Could you please give me some advice? I don't know that he doesn't see her side in it. I mean, it sounds like the family in general acknowledges that she's difficult and Yeah. She won't apologize until hell freezes over. I feel like they understand how she works.
Yeah. At what point in time do you just go, hey. That person's a schmuck Yeah. And you leave it at that? I think this is the point in time when you say, that person's a schmuck, and you leave it at that. Yeah. Because because, like, if she's if the sister's saying, hey. You're you're keeping me from talking to Jake, it implies that the sister's not talking to her brother. And if it's true that she's actually the girlfriend's not stopping that, then it's the brother probably don't wanna deal with her either. True. Which means that the people that you care to know, like, you wanna set a a right record with, the person you're dating and the rest of the family, I feel like they're already there, so you should stop sweating it. Yeah. It's not like they're gonna kick the sister out of the family. You just kinda have to deal with it because everybody else seems to go, yeah. That's just what she does. Yeah. She's a compulsive liar and is really rude. Right. That shouldn't affect your relationship with him at all. I mean, just just I mean, I can I can imagine it's obnoxious? Well, for sure. But at the same point in time, yeah, I agree with Dan. I don't think it should be an ender with Jake. Yeah. Just understand as part of the package that has nothing to do with him, and you just, you know Hope that you're one of those families that sees the the sister of your your future husband,
like, at, three holidays a year? I mean, it does get a little awkward when the sister is hosting events and inviting everybody but you. You mean? Jake should stand up and go, Michelle, you're ridiculous. My wife has come with me or my girlfriend's come with me. No. I agree. At what age, Dan? What age does it switch to you? What should we stop saying boyfriend, girlfriend? Yeah. Because I know they're 30, 30 Right? So even that's kinda like mean, is what it is, but just seems like in it when you get out of high school and the college should be a transitional word maybe. And then just in your adult world, it's not my girlfriend. It's it's my man friend. Wait. Woah. Wait a minute. If your girlfriend switched to your man friend, we're having a difference in the conversation. Well, so hold on a second. Hey, man. I'm 25. Does that mean I'm a man friend? Yeah. No. I think you just have to start speaking on, on your future intent.
So you stop My future husband? You stop saying girlfriend, you say future wife or side piece or, like, whatever it is that you're Future side piece. Whatever your intent is in life, that is how you have to explain it. Gentlemen, I don't have a lot of experience, but I don't think you should ever refer to a woman as your future side piece. Here's the deal. I think you should. That way she knows exactly what it is that you're doing and can break up with you directly. Oh, I suppose there is some honesty to say in future side piece if she goes, excuse me? Goodbye, Jake. Yeah. Alright. Fair enough. I mean, so you could just say the person I'm dating. Yeah. I mean I think we're just elongating boyfriend or girlfriend. I I know. It's making it more difficult. She's my she my she dater. My he. My she friend and he friend? My he no. I that could just be a friend. You wanna say she dater or he dater? She dater or he dater? Still working with it. It's it's live. You got me on the seat. That's
I'm just I'm just So we have resident silver foxes. We have she dater or he dater. Yeah. I feel like we're not coming up with anything violent. Yeah. This is why I've I've been having trouble with the sister of my he dater. Maybe we need to come up just a whole new word, you know, my Oh, and just come up with a Whatever. I don't know. My what? I I just threw a couple word buttons together. Saying sounds? No. A bow bow's legit. So could you go with I really would like to know the gender. It just helps me. It answers questions for me. Ben needs to have a gender, does he? Can we say he hebo shebo? My hebo? Like that. I like that. Hey, man. It's my shebo. Yeah.
You got a t bow for never mind. That's a hey. We're Oh, no. Shebo, hebo. We're making progress. Alright. Cool. Here's what Segreras said. K. Michelle's fixation on her brother isn't normal or healthy. That Jake has been willing to tolerate it and not warn her to knock it off means that as long as you are with him, you will be subjected to her mistreatment. Oh, come on. You may love Jake, but as long as he is under the thumb of his jealous and possessive sister, you will continue to be abused and maligned. That's stupid. My advice is to cut your losses. Hey, man. She was she was much softer on the drunk ex Dexter. Right. Then the chick that goes, I don't like you. She shoved me.
Yeah. Okay. Yeah. That was I don't know. I I yeah. I think that seems overly harsh. That was good. Yeah. That's that's a bit of a jump. Yeah. Yeah. Alright. What else? You got more? Yeah. I can come up on that. Let's do one more. Let's do one more then. You're gonna have to give me a second. Done.
Yep. Don't get all do you think you want it? Sorry. My phone's not wanting to find these. Hey, Ben. How are doing over there?
The reason I don't do these on the normal. I'm a little bored, actually. Was waiting for understandable. I'm bored too, and I'm I'm scrolling the thumb. I actually I was I was going over Hebo and Shebo and whether I could whether that's gonna work out or not. That's what's where my mind is at. Talk about that on the air. It's a long term thing. What the heck, bubba? What are doing over there? Some of these are just raunchy. We can't talk about them on the air. Okay. Fair enough. They're a bad deal.
I didn't we didn't prescreen this, but we'll see what happens. Dear life of the bath. K. My sister Dawn recently got engaged to a man I detest. Wait a minute. Sweet voices. Okay. Never mind. They've been dating for two years. K. I don't trust him, and I believe he is controlling her. He has lied to me and to my parents and has strained Dawn's relationship with our family by constantly make her choose between either him or us. Dawn worked hard to earn her master's degree and is now earning a great salary. Her fiance has no education beyond high school, constantly switches jobs, and uses my sister for financial support. Hey. This sounds familiar. I have spoken to her multiple times in the past about my concerns, and at one point made it clear that I wouldn't attend her wedding. Gonna go to the wedding. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No. Yeah. We we did that one. Did I miss it? Was it one of those times? Was last week. Yeah. She was gonna sit yeah. Yeah. Hey, man. This is a first on live from the past. Man. Here's the deal. We had one job, Buba. Hey. I'm sorry. I I was One job.
My I had two jobs. Thank you very much. I did alright in the first one. Yeah. Alright. Alright. You're forget it. We're here. Let's do we'll do a quiz, and we'll call this Dave. Oh, man. This is embarrassing. It's almost as embarrassing as Hebo and Chibo. Hold on. Let's see. What's growing on me? Yeah. I feel like that was gonna work out. I'm gonna get me a shirt that's made up. Hey, man. We need okay. We're gonna put something out on either the the Twitter, or we're gonna put something out on the Facebook, and we're gonna see what people like about the Hebo or the Shebo. I'm a Shebo. If you are if you are for Hebo or Shebo or to test the concept of Hebo or Shebo, email us at info@LifeofthePath. We'd love to hear your thought process on it.
Okay. Yeah. That's a good call. Alright. Let's do this quiz is on prayer. What time was considered the hour of prayer in the temple? The third hour, the sixth hour, the ninth hour, or the twelfth hour? I think all of them were. But that's not I don't think it'll accept all. Is it
six? I'm waiting for six. In Romans, Paul wrote, brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may come to an understanding of the truth that they might be saved, that they might see the Messiah, that they may walk in truth. Wait. Wait. Romans? They might be saved. Yeah. Yeah. Romans. Paul says, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel, and then says that they might be saved. That's b. Okay. Alright. We're in. Three, the apostle James wrote, is any among you afflicted? Let him pray. Is any merry? Let him drink wine, dance to the Lord, sing psalms, be merry no more. Sing psalms.
It's either drink wine or sing songs. If you're afflicted, you pray. If you're merry, you drink wine, dance to the Lord, sing psalms, or be merry no more. Hey. Don't be happy. Sing, baby. Ephesians. What do we got here? What you're on sing psalms? Yeah. Yeah. I'll go with it. Okay. Four, the apostle James wrote, confess your faults one to another and pray for one another that ye may be healed, found false faultless, prosperous, or saved? Healed.
Dan, thoughts? It's faultless? What what what are the choices? Yeah. Confess your faults one to another and pray one for another that ye may be healed. Oh, yeah. Heal. Heal. Okay. I thought that wasn't the choice. Oh, yeah. Wait a minute. Maybe it's just gonna be e e v ESV changes. Yeah. Right on. For number five, while they were stoning Stephen, he prayed, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. Which apostle was present at the stoning? Paul. Silas, Timothy, Barnabas, or Paul? Paul. Who is described as a devout man who feared God with all his household? He gave alms generously to the people and prayed to God always.
Simeon, a tanner. Cornelius a centurion. Paul a tentmaker. Alexander a coppersmith. Isn't Alexander the troublemaker? It was the the Tanner. Simon a Tanner?
Wait. Did you say Simon or Simeon, Dan? Why is it Simeon? I was thinking the dude in the when Jesus was born. Oh, yeah. Right. I know he's not an option. Simon a Tanner? Cornelius a centurion? Paul a tentmaker? Cornelius. Yeah. No. You're you're right. It's Cornelius. The centurion. Number seven. Who did Peter and John heal at the gate beautiful when they were going were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer? Lame man, blind man, deaf man, demon possessed man. I think a blind man. I think he's lame. Yeah. Yeah. Because he gets up and yeah. Oh, yep. The angels. I'm terrible at this. What was Paul's prayer for the church at Corinth that they come to know him? Make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, receive a spirit of wisdom, may become perfect.
Corinth. Corinth was a happy one, wasn't it? No. No. No. No. Corinth is jacked up. Well, then may know him. Come to know him, make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, receive a spirit of wisdom, may become perfect. D's out. I don't know. They all seem legit. Reasonable.
What's the first one again? Come to know him. But it's it's a lowercase hymn. Oh. Is that a problem with the quiz, though, or the bible? I don't know. Make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel. I think I A spirit of wisdom sounds right. No. It doesn't. Oh. Dan, you're the tiebreaker. Yeah. Mystery Read the first two again. Come to know him or make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel.
Gosh. I'm between those two. Know him. Nah. The second one. Alright. We're gonna go with make known with with boldness. Number nine, right at the we're we're in trouble on this one. Right at the end of say something great. Letter to the Thessalonians, he makes a quick list of things for the church to do. Concerning prayer, he said, pray for the sick and they shall recover. Pray without ceasing.
Pray each time you gather together. Pray for the nations who have not heard the gospel. I'm stuck between b and c. It's the yeah. It's the location of the admonition that's the problem. Yeah. Like, pray without ceasing. I mean, yeah. Is it is that where it happened, in Thessalonians?
I think so. Alright. We're gonna go pray without ceasing. 10. The apostle James writing to the 12 tribes that were scattered abroad said, the prayer of faith will make known abroad the mystery of the gospel, save the sick, move mountains, meet the needs of the poor. I was looking for availeth much.
The prayer of faith James. Will make known abroad the mystery of the gospel, save the sick, move mountains, meet the needs of the poor. Let's say the gospel one. Mystery of the gospel, make known abroad the mystery of the gospel? Yeah. I'm alright with that one. You're on that one too? Yeah. Oh, man. I just I I feel like This is a rough one. Here we go. What time was considered the hour of prayer in the temple? We said the sixth hour. That is incorrect. It is the ninth hour. Oh, bloody. Hold on. I kinda wanna see it. Let me see the Yeah. What's truth of the use? Comes from Acts three one. Peter and John were going up into the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. Shoot, man. Do not know Acts. Question two in Romans, Paul wrote, brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is we said that they might be saved. That is correct. Question three, the apostle James wrote, is any among you afflicted? Let him pray. Is any Mary? Let him, we said, sing psalms.
That is correct. The apostle James wrote, confess your faults one to another and pray for one another that ye may be, we said, healed. That is correct. While they were stoning Stephen, he prayed, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. Which apostle was present at the stoning? We said Paul. That is correct.
Who was described as a devout man who feared God with all his household? He gave alms generously to the people and prayed to God always. We said Cornelius, a centurion. That is correct. Seven, who did Peter and John heal at the gate beautiful when they were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer? We said a lame man. That is correct. Eight, what was Paul's prayer for the church at Corinth? That they make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel. That is incorrect. It is may become perfect. What? May become perfect. Hold on. Second choice.
For we rejoice second Corinthians 13, for we rejoice when we are weak and you are strong, and this we also pray for even your perfecting. Yeah. You know you know what's interesting? Running into Paul is, like, for as often as we degrade as we make, say, make less of ourselves and and make point people to Jesus say we're just imperfect vessels, which is certainly true.
Paul does a lot of saying, be like me. Yeah. Like, he's constantly saying, yeah. Act like me. I'll act like Jesus. And, doesn't seem to think that the the standard of a pursuit of not only righteousness, but, like, the the how he treats the world or interacts acts with people is something that is worthy enough for people to try to emulate.
And I think we've backed so far away from the thought of personal example for concern that shows a lack of humility that that and and it's just something that Paul mentions all the time Uh-huh. About people following him and saying, do as I do as I do. Follow my example. Christ. Yeah. And so, I I think that's that's that's tough because as we rightfully acknowledge our our, where we're at compared to Jesus, I think we can't ignore Paul's general example, which says, he's fighting the good fight to be that example to other people. And, really, we fight hard to make sure people know that we suck. And I'm not sure we've got the right
that speaks the right thing about Jesus, but it doesn't necessarily speak the right thing about his work in your life and the and the purse and what his kingdom and his righteousness actually does for you. And so I don't know. It's just it's just interesting that it continues to come up in the things that Paul says. Number nine, right at the end of Paul's first letter to the Thessalonians, he makes a quick list of things for the church to do concerning prayer. He said, pray without ceasing. That is correct. And the apostle James writing to the 12 tribes that were scattered abroad said, the prayer of faith will, we said, make known abroad the mystery of the gospel. That is incorrect.
Correct answer is save the sick. Let's see. James five fifteen. And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up. Yes. Yes. That's in the eldership thing. We answered a total of seven questions correctly for a score of 7%. Quiz has been taken 17,975
times since September 2004, and the average score was 60%. So we beat the average. Not good enough. No. It's not a it's not a classic, Hennig. Live From The Path, always a little above average.
