Segments
- Show open: produced intro, station IDs, tonight's lineup 0:09–2:00
A produced opener names Lowe Street Studios and the show, then a host self-introduces as "Ben Foost" (Ben Fust) and apologizes to Dan for a computer notification interrupting. Tonight's theme is set: two Christian bands from the Spirit Midwest Festival are coming, and the band Certainty is already in studio and will be formally introduced later.
- Mike's car, phone, and trunk disaster 2:00–4:40
Mike tells a rambling arrival story: he could not find his phone in his messy car, locked his keys on the dashboard with the trunk open, emptied his trunk to climb in, and found half an E.L. Fudge cookie that ended up smeared on his new jeans. The hosts riff on the trunk's contents, the ruined jeans, and jean rotations.
- Jean rotations, Dan's church video, and the spider hat 4:39–9:30
Banter continues: jean rotations (Mike three pairs, Dan two), Dan saw the Sunday church video and realized how much weight he has gained, so he announces his diet starts today (his 19th bottle of water). Mike shows off a hat he found in Mike's garage with spiders in it, and the hosts struggle to pronounce "excavating."
- Certainty interview, part 1: festival slot and band intro 9:31–18:01
Certainty introduces themselves: they play the Spirit Midwest Festival Friday August 6th at 5:45 p.m. on the main stage, their first time at the festival. Ben and Jeff are from Norwalk and Frank is from Des Moines; they met on the worship team at Fellowship Community Church. They describe their full amplified show, the Nashville artist-development offer they turned down, and their website certaintyband.com, while a host struggles to find them on Facebook.
- Francis Chan video on middle-of-the-road Christianity 17:56–22:29
A host plays a Facebook video from Francis Chan, tied to Chan's book Crazy Love. Chan argues there is no biblical "middle road" where people profess Christ and do some good things but avoid radical obedience: there is a narrow road leading to life and a wide road leading to destruction (Matthew 7:13-14), and claiming to know Jesus means walking as he walked (1 John 2:6). The hosts say they will discuss it later in the show.
- Certainty performs "I Can Feel You Watching" 22:29–27:07
Certainty performs their song "I Can Feel You Watching" live in the studio, roughly four and a half minutes, followed by applause from the chat room.
- Certainty interview, part 2: CD, Facebook debacle, Dan jokes 27:08–35:27
Certainty talk about their CD (recorded spring 2009 at Tiller Studios with Steve Hudspeth, five original songs written by Jeff, released May 2009), Frank's pogo-stage-dancing, and the chat confirming Dan is not blocked from their Facebook page. The hosts roast Dan over the Judd Nelson/Breakfast Club exchange, and the handle "Sheetman2010" is proposed for Dan.
- Jimmy Swaggart, Dan's funeral video bit, and brownies 35:28–41:23
A host recounts watching 20 minutes of Jimmy Swaggart this week, including a suited "Worship Man" leading a tune. The hosts then riff on Dan pre-recording his own funeral video, with Dan Hudson joking his funeral tape would be his head pasted on an ostrich. Rachel's brownies in the chat prompt a call for brownie deliveries to the studio.
- Certainty's fall trip to a closed country (Laos) 41:23–45:05
Certainty describe a fall opportunity to perform in a closed, communist country with missionary friends running an indigenous church movement; their business platform is selling a water-purification system. A host accidentally blurts out the country ("In Laos, right?"), spoiling the secrecy. Their trip lands at the end of a Buddhist festival (likened to Buddhist Lent), and Frank's plan is to play their Christian songs but substitute the word "love" for God and Jesus.
- Donkey-cooking gag, t-shirt shooter, and Certainty sign-off 45:04–50:49
A running gag escalates: a Facebook-status joke about cooking donkey becomes a stewed-donkey-with-beans recipe read on air, plans for a festival donkey stand, donkey dogs, and a t-shirt shooter. They mention festival organizers Al Barnes and Julie Barnes, then thank Certainty and send them off to play "His Place."
- Certainty performs "His Place" 50:49–56:58
Certainty performs their song "His Place" live in the studio, roughly six minutes, before the hour-break comedy bit.
- Comedy sketch: "First Christian church meeting" parody 57:01–1:05:34
A played comedy sketch satirizes legalistic church culture: Jesus brushes off Peter, a fake "first Christian church meeting" sets rules like spending all free time in church and wearing a Jesus-beard, and a judgmental Jesus calls out each disciple's sins. Roman Pharisees and Pharisee thugs riff on temple fashion and bribing their way into heaven.
- Second hour open and the marijuana discussion 1:05:41–1:09:15
The second hour opens with a joke introduction ("Bobby McFerrin and Bobby McFerrin"), then a long bit: Dan admits he does not know what marijuana looks like and could not identify it, and the hosts debate whether Scripture says anything about it ("I don't remember Thessalonica saying no marijuana") and whether Dan would recognize a doobie at church. The band Saved on Sunday is then introduced into the studio.
- Saved on Sunday interview, part 1: CD release and testimony 1:09:16–1:16:09
Saved on Sunday (singer/guitarist Daniel, bassist Clint) join the studio fresh off their CD release party last Saturday for their second full-length album, Revolution, held at their home church Eagle Vision Church on the south side; their pastor dad David Brown is name-checked. The hosts digress into a full face-transplant news story (a man who shot himself in the face in Madrid), Dick Cheney shotgun jokes, and Dan's stolen-Dairy-Queen-patches childhood sin. Daniel gives his testimony: a pastor's kid who followed Christ on his own at 18 after drugs and a run-in with God.
- Sermon discussion: God's sovereignty, Job, and fierce grace 1:16:11–1:22:48
The hosts and Saved on Sunday discuss Sunday's sermon on God's sovereignty: modern Christians treat God as a pocket toy for blessings, but Job shows God does what he wants and owes no explanation ("you weren't here when I did this… how dare you question me"). The standout takeaway is the fierceness of grace: the same sovereign "I do what I want" backs God's forgiveness, so when he says a sin is gone, it is gone.
- Uncle's Christ-intro video and "Let Your Love Fall" 1:22:49–1:30:12
A host plays a video his uncle sent on Facebook: a comedic hype-man introduction of Christ ("hailed out of a manger in Bethlehem… by way of heaven," the world's greatest fish fry, walking on water "no special effects, no camera tricks"). Saved on Sunday then performs "Let Your Love Fall," the first worship song Daniel ever wrote, about five and a half minutes.
- Saved on Sunday interview, part 2: formation, Paxton, Senate campaign 1:30:34–1:41:38
Saved on Sunday tell their origin: together about a year and a half, formed from the Eagle Vision praise-and-worship team, the name came from a bowling-alley strike flashing "SOS" plus a pastor's "two people saved on Sunday." Their lead guitarist Jeremy Taft is leaving for Nashville to play country music, so they are auditioning lead guitarists on air. Their Revolution producer is eight-time Grammy winner Gary S. Paxton, and a Missouri U.S. Senate candidate wants to use the title song as his campaign theme. They preview a busy weekend: Rochester MN and Oskaloosa Youth for Christ fundraisers, a Sunday church concert, and the festival.
- Spirit Midwest logistics and the prayer tent pitch 1:41:38–1:44:40
The hosts run down Spirit Midwest Festival logistics: August 6-7 at Jordan Park (corner of Fuller and Grand), free admission, 40-plus bands, three stages, vendors, an inflatable village, and camping, with info at spiritmidwest.com. The hosts strongly encourage volunteering, especially at the prayer tent, framing intercession as just as important as any band on stage, and Saved on Sunday (Saturday 3:30 main stage) agree.
- Red Rover aside, "Let It Shine" story, and performance 1:44:40–1:52:39
After a youth-group Red Rover aside (a girl running full-speed into raised arms, compared to Troy Polamalu wiping out a receiver), Saved on Sunday introduce "Let It Shine." They had only 11 songs the night before recording and felt a CD needs 12, so the singer wrote this simple song late that night about letting your light shine as a Christian; the studio band had never heard it before recording. They perform it live, roughly seven minutes.
- Closing: plugs, Pathway Church, and next week's guests 1:52:39–1:54:42
The show closes with plugs: the show at livefromthepath.org with archives and podcast signup, Pathway Church in Johnston meeting at Wallace Elementary at 10 a.m. Sundays (two services coming in September), and thepathonline.org. Next week: Tim Cooper and friends / the ne'er-do-wells in the first hour and Vance Lambert in the second, leading into the Spirit Midwest Festival.

Live from Lowe Street Studios, downtown the morn. You are Live from the Pack. Thank you so much for joining us. That was New World Sun. I am Ben Foost. And you are Live from the Pack. I thought of that on the way in. Huh? What do you think? No? I like it. No? I give it a five. Out of how many? I don't want to say five out of five. And you are. No. I don't have a good phrase. What is that? I'm sorry, Dan. Can you be bothered to be on the radio now, or do you want to take that phone call? That's my Bible software.
I'm like, I hit mute before this whole thing started. I'm like, who's? Oh, that's my computer. Unbelievable. What's going on here today? That's a travesty. You are listening to Live from the Pack on Des Moines Amplified.com. Again, thanks so much for being here tonight. We do our cup overflow with tonight. Just like last week, we were fortunate to have a couple bands for them. From the Spirit Midwest Festival Inn. We're going to have a couple more tonight. That was fun. Yeah. It was a lot of fun. That was a lot of fun. We will be fun. Well, it was fun. And I'm sure it will be fun. Certainty's in the studio tonight, and we'll talk to them here in a little bit. They might just jump in and start talking, but I will formally introduce you here in a little bit. Mike, why do you have that big…
What are you doing? It's that meditation thing. I'm checking my mic levels. I didn't do it. Get it? It's a double entendre. Did I say that right? What's a double entendre? An embarrassment. No. What is this double entendre? Does it mean two things? I couldn't even answer that. Ben? No. What does it mean? I don't know. Seriously? I don't know what a single entendre is. I wouldn't spell entendre right to Google it. Good point. I would probably end up on a foreign dating website from some lady named Entende.
Offering double the services. Once again, big trouble. Price baked cookies? What is that stuff on your jeans? Yeah, bad stuff happened to me on the way in. So here's the deal, Daniel. I like to tell Daniel the story. Because I take notes. So I'm late anyway. You know, I'm trucking. I fill up this cooler water. I'm trucking. I'm like, man, I'm going to be late, Ben. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. He says, whatever. Hey, thanks for texting me. About what? That you were going to be late. I would assume you would be walking in the door the same as I would. I had asked Ben. Mike coming. Oh.
He didn't care to inform me. No. Go ahead. Sorry. So anyway, I get here and I got like five things going through my head. Wait, what am I going to talk about? Blah, blah, blah. I got nothing. Nothing all the way in. I should do my laundry. I'm driving. I got absolutely nothing. And so I take the keys out of the car. I put them on the top of the dashboard. And then I hear my phone go. I got a new text message. Somebody wants to be my friend. Somebody wanted to be my friend. I can't find it. I don't know. I still know where it is. It's in my car somewhere.
Now, this could either speak to filthiness in my car, the fact there's so much in there that I can't find the location of my cell phone, or it's really fallen in some crevice that I've yet to be in. Oh, no. So I still don't know where it is. At least the sound's on. Yeah. Well, I was going to call and say, hey, fellas, I'm running a bit late. But then I can't find it. So instance number two, I get out of the car thinking, man, I can't find my cell phone. This stinks. So I pop the trunk and I shut the door, realizing that I've now locked my keys on the dashboard with the locked door. I think, bonus, trunk is open. Ah. But I keep a lot of stuff in that trunk. So now, I Salvation Army all my stuff out of my trunk, and I dive in it. And apparently, I have half an E.L. Fudge cookie laying open in the trunk. Tell me that's not what's on your pants. It is. It is now a quarter of an E.L. Fudge cookie, because the other quarter is now on my jeans. My new jeans that I've been trying, I've been babying them.
Oh, no. You know how it is to get a new pair of jeans. Like, I'm really going to take good care of these ones. I'm going to set these aside. I'm going to say, if I'm up to any nefarious activity today, the new jeans will stay at home. That's right. I'll put on one of the old jeans. Put these in their special spot. Yeah. But not this time. E.L. Fudge. I mean, all over. How many jeans do you have in your rotation? Three. Dan? Two. I have one that I can wear out in public. Like, that are work appropriate. Yeah, yeah. I find them to be church appropriate, but they're not work appropriate. Thank you.
The Lord takes me as I am. The business world does not. I have, and I ran it, I was, what was I doing? I was unloading something out of the back of my van this week, and I hit my knee on the trailer hitch with grease on it. So my only good pair of jeans has got a big old grease spot on it, but it goes in my hat. I love your hat. Thank you very much. What is that? What do you mean? Is that like a crane thing? Remember this hat I found in Mike's garage that had the spiders in it and stuff? You had to like, you didn't even dust it off, you just like put it on it. That was impressive. Yeah, that's the one. Is there anything living in it? I don't think so. What does it say? I can't even tell. It says Scott Harrison excavating. Oh, gotcha, gotcha. Say it.
Scott Harrison excavating? Excavating. Excavating. Ex. Excavating. Excavating. It's excavating, it's not excavating? No, I don't believe that's a word either. I was afraid to Google it because then I would be excavating with entende. And that would be my concern. That would be bad. Only legal in Navibia. Certainty, what's the jean rotation for you fellas? Well, I probably got five or six pairs. No kidding? Yeah. She treats me like a Ken doll. You'll wear these today. Well, that sounds awesome. I know. I know. Hey, I had someone at work tell me, they said, they said some of the extent of, my wife
and I never fight. We never fight. I said, I don't believe that. I said, what if you want some brownies? And she goes, he just says, hey, will you make me some brownies? And I make them. I said, well, you're right. That would keep a fight from coming. Keeps everybody happy. Because if I were to say, hey, woman, will you make me some brownies? She'd go, no. Or the brownie mix is in there. Or you don't need any brownies because you're getting fat. Those would be the three responses I would get. Or throw that hat away and maybe I'll consider it. Maybe we should save the money on the brownies and get you another pair of jeans. I watched the video from church on Sunday. And no one, nobody has told me I'm a cow. What do you mean? I mean, no one said, Dan, by the way, you're fat. Actually, that's not true. Me and the certainty guys were discussing that before you showed up.
I wish someone would have told me that about six months ago. Yeah, I had t-shirts purred up. I was going to make it a surprise. Because I'm looking at the video going, you've got about six months to live. That might be coaching. That's not funny. Why is Dan on a technical level? You're always the last one to find out, right? I know. I'm like, nobody told me I look like this. I still see myself about 80 pounds ago. And I'm going, yeah, I'm looking pretty good today. The video does not lie. Well, Dan, I'd like to see you at a healthier Dan. Let's put it that way. Let's just say today it started. Today's the day? Today. I'm drinking water. Is that he's drinking water? This is my 19th bottle of water. I read an article, flush away your fat.
There's some cosmic brownies in here. Starts tomorrow. No, thanks. Yeah, I do recall the last time we were talking about you and losing weight, you showed up here with like a dollar Wendy's. Oh, a frosty. A frosty. That was a small one, though. I'm pretty sure that was your third one, which negates the small. Those advertisements are powerful. Oh, look at that. Turns out if I stack them, I could fit three of them in the same cup holder. Oh, that's awful. I was embarrassed. I literally was embarrassed. Well, it was your video. I know. You probably wouldn't have had to tell anybody. I know. Yeah, Dan, I mean. Why did you take that video anyway? I was going to ask you that.
Why were you videotaping this? I have a good reason. I can't remember. I'm something about… We're going to stream it. Yeah, the live stream thing. Yeah. No, no. We talked about you not doing that. We have technical people that will handle the video. I waited long enough. Videography. It does need some lighting. So, again, you've been listening to Life in the Path on Des Moines Amplified.com. Partially dead. Yeah. Dan, apparently, his honor was one foot in. I did not know that. I did not know you were one foot in. Well, no one told me. But I will encourage you… Would it be inappropriate to call you three foot under?
Because he grew an extra leg? Because he's not quite six? He's halfway there? Oh, yeah. No. It's not clever if you didn't get it the first time. No, you're right. You've got to explain it. I'm kicking it out. I don't get high-class jokes in this hat. You've got to tell a roller. I mean, it's got to have 18 wheels in it for me to understand it. Tell me a joke with 18 wheels in it. Is it the hat that fits the man or the man that fits the hat? Who's to say? It has the air conditioning and it's letting all my smart sails out. So, we're in the studio with Certainty. They will be playing at the Spirit Midwest Festival on August 6th and 7th. Do you guys know the day and the time? Yeah, we play on Friday the 6th, 5.45 p.m. on the main stage. Have you played this festival before? No, we haven't.
This is our first time. You know, we were talking to… Or Julie sent me a note. She was here a couple weeks ago. She sent me a note and said, You know, we've been thinking we need to have you guys come to one of these things, but for some reason, we always forget about you. So, I don't know if that's… Thank you. Yeah. I'm glad you remembered this time. You've got to wait with people, Julie. Yeah, really. I think I'd have pen to paper that one out. I mean, we don't mention that whole part. We think you guys are great, but man, I tell you, you just slip our minds every time. We're really excited about it. We're looking forward to it. Well, they put you on the main stage. Is that like the big dogs? What does the main stage mean? You know what?
I have no idea. It sounds impressive. They had to give it a name, I suppose. You can walk around. Yeah, we're on the main stage. Yeah, we're on the main stage. But I think the real main stage is the… I think they call it the hard rock stage or something like that. Okay. Well, it depends on who you are. Yeah, they put us in the parking lot. Exactly. I'd say you guys are doing pretty good. We're inside the fence. We've got little peepholes. Yeah, they told us we're performing, but then they gave us orange vests and told us to show cars where to go. See if you can spin that little… You guys are on pretty much all day, and here's this garbage poker in the cans room. You guys are so funny. I see where this is going. Just left that little milk carton in the garbage can over there.
Jokey man. So where are you guys from? We're from… Ben and I are from Norwalk, so south of the airport a little bit, and Frank lives in Des Moines, and we go to… We met just… We went to… We go to church at Fellowship Community Church down in Norwalk, and that's how we met, being on the worship team and stuff down there, so… And I'm trying to figure out how to phrase this where it doesn't sound awkward. So how long have you been going there together? Let's see. Ben's been going since 97. That's about how long I've been there. Frank, you've been coming for… About seven years. About seven years or so. Cool. Cool. Cool. Are you happy with the carpet design at your current place of worship? Yeah.
No. No. No, it's fine. It goes with all my jeans, and so I don't have a big problem. Does it match Daniel's shirt? It does. Yeah. It's got a little purple for the Norwalk Warriors. It's got that purple color in there. So does my kid's pack of macaroni, so everything should be golden. It does look like spinning wheel macaroni. BBS Crafts. So, like, if you guys… Now, you're going to play here acoustic, and actually, certainly we'll be playing here in the next probably three to five minutes. We'll get one fired up. But do you normally play acoustic, or are you normally the amplification? Oh, no. We're amplification. Ben here, he can't play unless there's, like, 12 pedals and, you know, 120 watts or whatever. Right. Really loud.
11. We've got a full show with the whole PAs and… Oh, yeah. Hyrotechnics. …and a whole drum set. Do you have a guy behind a white blanket doing a shadow dance or something? Pretty close. We have a light guy that helps us out. Jeremy Lawton, he helps us out quite a bit and does a light show, and we usually have a full band. And we have another… We have a couple of other guys in the band, the drummer, and also a keyboard player and guitar player. So, it easily turns out to be a pretty full… Pretty full-bodied show. Is that what we can expect at the Spirit Midwest Festival on August 6 and 7th? A full-bodied show. Full show? Yeah. I'm actually available for that shadow dance thing that I was bringing up. It's just something you want to consider. I have my own sheet, and…
Have you got a video? Maybe we could, you know, audition you or something. If you go to… Oh, what is it called? Entendre.com. You could see my work. I'm really proud of this one. I've been saying Entendre. I can't even pull the comedy off. I'm going to skeet this brownie. Let me be. Hey, do you have any more of those EO fudges in your car, though? Why? Because you could have brought them in. Well, they're pretty messed up. I dove into my trunk. I would really hate to list what's back there. I mean, there's some stuff that has no business being in my trunk. Give me an example. Well, I have… Are you starting to eat a brownie right now? I was going to.
I can hear it. I can hear you opening that brownie. I wish you'd stop talking to me, by the way. I'm not eating a brownie. It's a cosmic brownie. It appears to have fluorescent colored shapes on it. Don't look at it, Daniel. I don't want to hinder your progress. Not at all? Not at all. You know what? They don't have it anymore. They used to put a little half indent where you're supposed to break it. They didn't do that anymore? Nobody breaks them anymore. They just eat them. Hey, you know what? You remember when they used to cut the chicken sandwich at the Burger King in half? Yeah. I wish they'd keep that up. I really enjoyed that. You could ask for it.
Well, you do, and they get snippy with you. They do get snippy. They're like, we cut that out for a reason, brother. We're not doing it no more. Making cutbacks all across the board, aren't they? Take your homeschool attitude and get it down to the other Burger King. We ain't doing that here. The part probably saved you. Get your homeschool attitude. What is that? That's what they said to me. I used to work at Burger King in high school, so the same knife that you used to cut the ham and cheese in, you would cut the chicken sandwich. You're transferring all kinds of things back and forth. Yeah, but that's already pretty good. Well, buy another knife. I mean, is this Burger King, is it not? It's fast food. Can't they pick up one more knife to keep in the kitchen at the Burger King? Yeah, really? Change the name to Burger Peasant if that's what's going to go on here. I mean, it's ridiculous.
One knife's going to break the whole cutting. Throw a hole over. Man. We're going to get rid of the crowns and the knife. That's it. But we're going to keep that tank where you can try to catch the quarter on the slider to win yourself a cheeseburger. Hey, I rock it. I rock it dropping the quarter in the water. Really? And then catching it on one of the little deals. I'm excellent. I'm small. I do the small fries. I don't win anything bigger. But the small fries, I'm in. Have you seen those dudes that, like, I've probably heard three ways to try to coax vending machines out of free goods. Like, some guy claims to, like, drill a hole in a quarter and then put a fishing line on it and claim to be able to haul it back out. That doesn't happen. That's not true.
I'm sorry. Have you done that? I've tried it, yeah. Okay. Okay, good. Next. Okay. Secondly, now this one actually works. It used to work. I don't think it does anymore. Like, in those laundromat washing machines where you've got to put the quarters in, if you put them in some pantyhose and then put them in and then bring them back out. You used to be able to fool the Duds and Suds. Who tried that? Who's the guy that's like, you know what, I've got an extra pair of pantyhose and I'm really cheap. Why don't I give this a go at the Duds and Suds? Well, I did it, first of all. Probably still has the pair in his trunk, right? Exactly. I also use those pantyhose when I go to the Burger King. Demand outrageous things, like having my sandwich cut in half, apparently.
But, yeah, that does work. I don't think it does anymore. You don't used to be able to smoke in the Duds and Suds? Doesn't that seem ridiculous? Like, everyone's doing their laundry to get it smelling nice and then there's like a pack of dudes sitting there huffing away. Exactly. You know, at the laundromat? I don't know. That just seemed like it. I don't know. I didn't care for it. What? I thought it was all right. What do you mean? That's where I get my secondhand smoke. I never took up smoking myself, but I do enjoy secondhand smoke. Where can I go but the Duds and Suds? I like cigars. Now I can't go where anybody works because no one can smoke at work. I'd like to see the look at this point when you walk into an establishment and go, smoking?
Well, we don't smoke in here. Could you just light them? Do you know it takes about eight minutes to burn a cigarette if you don't puff on it? Really? Just let it sit there? Oh, yeah. It's like a cigarette incense. I knew a guy that used to take his breaks like that at work where he'd go in the can and fall asleep. And he'd just light it and sit in the bathroom. And then eight minutes later, he'd burn his hand and wake up and back to where he goes. So if you end up pulling the double shift, your family's in the straights, bring a pack of smokes with you. 120s if you want 10 minutes, you know, I suppose. Although they changed it so they're fireproof now. Now you can't do that. I know. They go out. Yeah. Yeah. So you can't make fuses for bombs out of them. Exactly. Yeah. Like you can't do it in the movies where you're like, you know, just a casual cool man, flick of the smoke and then explosion.
That's what they don't think about when they put laws like that. Yeah. Where's the guy that wants to do a casual Hollywood blow up at his place, you know? Left in the straights, wallowing on his back like a beach turtle. Real quick, before we get to certainty on here, they're going to get ready and do a song for us. There was, I was watching this week, someone had kind of actually sent me this on Facebook and there was a video about Francis, from Francis Chan and it had to do with middle of the road Christianity. And I don't know, it really hit me and it ties a lot into what he talks about in his book Crazy Love about, you know, reorienting yourself in your relationship with God and your relationship with other people and in the outside world. So we're going to take a quick look at this and then we'll come back and we'll have certainty ready to go. And the arguments I've had where, you know, people have said, you know, one guy, I've been in my church for like 15 years, ever since it started. I thought I was one of the key guys and he comes to me, you know, just not too long ago and he goes, you know, Francis, here's the problem with you. He goes, you think everyone needs to be this radical. You think that Jesus calls us all to be radicals. He goes, you know, you think there's just these few radicals and he goes, you know, there's this, you got to understand, Francis, there's this middle road where, you know, people, you know, they profess Christ and they do some good things. And it's like you're neglecting that whole middle road. Did you guys know that? There's a narrow road that leads to life. There's a wide road that leads to destruction. And now there's this new middle road. See, I didn't know that. Like a carpool lane. It's just this weird new road we created where you can just do some good things in the name of Jesus and still hold. It's, it's, you know, you know, you're serious right now.
You're dead serious. You found a middle road. You guys, I'm not a real, you got to understand, those who know me know that I'm not a real complicated guy. I, I, I tend to think like a kid. I tend to just go, wow, that seems like what it says. You know, I, I, I remember when, when I was a kid, we used to play this game called Follow the Leader. Remember that? I mean, some of you guys don't because you just played video games and you, but we used to play this game called Follow the Leader where the leader, you know, flaps his wings and you do the same thing. And it was easy. You just do what the leader did. And it's so weird how in the church we've twisted this. And follow Jesus is a different game. You don't really have to flap your wings. You don't want to accent, you can just sit there and do it in your heart. Seriously. You know, when I read the scripture, it says, man, whoever claims to know it must, must walk as Jesus walked. But we go, well, no, I'm doing that in my heart. You're like the kid sitting on the recliner. You go, no, I'm flapping my wings in my heart. It doesn't make sense. It's, it's, it's, it's, we, we distort things because of what we want. You know, remember, you remember Simon says, that was easy, right?
Simon says, pat your head. But Jesus says it's a totally different game. If Jesus says something, you, you, you just have to memorize it. That's what we do in the church. If Jesus says, you just got to study it. You just got to, you just have to be able to quote it in the Greek. You just, it's, it's, it's, it has nothing to do with, hey, Jesus says, you look, look, when my daughter, you know, comes to me and I go, look, go clean your room. She knows better than to come back a few hours later and goes, dad, I memorized what you said. I can say it in Greek. In fact, some of my friends, we're going to, they're going to come over and we're going to do a little study on what it would look like to clean my room. It just, it's not making sense to me. And, and all I can say is that we're twisting things. We do, we do in the church and we, we create this little way where we don't actually have to do what Jesus called. All right. We'll talk about that. We're going to talk about that a little bit once we, probably a little later on the show. Let's go ahead and get it started. We have a certainty on. They're going to go and kick us off with, I can feel you watching. Thanks. A resounding applause from the chat. They loved it.
There was a question as to, Frank, what do you, what do you, you're usually bass, right? Right. I play the bass and sing some, a lot of harmonies and. Okay. They were feeling bad for you. Jump around a little bit too. I'm kind of the. He's the good looking one that the, you know. I wouldn't say that. I'd say, I'm saying. I would say that. He is a good looking man. I like to, I like to move around and get into the music and really feel it. And I do a little bit of pogo, so to speak. You know, I do a little bit of the pogo jumping for the, with the bass and stuff. Did you name it that or someone else named it that or. No, it's the, it's the, it's the pogo. It's a style. Yes, exactly. I think actually it was originated in Africa. Oh, really? Yeah.
They all, they all. I love it. I think this is great. They all jump up and down to the beat, you know. I'm going to have to go to the show just to see this in action. All right. Yeah, definitely, definitely. That's part of it. That's part of the draw right there. Awesome. What if I were to try it? Do you think I could do it as good? I'm sure you can. I'm sure you could. If you feel music and you, and you feel the beat, you can do it. Do I have to have the tunes? Here, you got it? Huh. Okay, ready? I'm going to do it. Wait, hold on. Do you need music?
No, no, I got it covered. Don't worry about it. Okay, go ahead. I can feel it coming over me. Huh? That's dead off. That might not be one of the songs that we pogo to. It's watching. I said it, right? No. You said coming over. Yeah. What was it? What was it? Watching? Watching. I was going to say. You know, that might not be, that's, can we borrow that? Well, are you going to let me do that sheet thing or what? Absolutely. That's a good trade-off. Okay, deal.
But you're going to credit me on the CD. Of course. Under the pseudonym Dan Hudson. Now, that'd be a bad idea. He's the crowd. The guy who's almost dead. He's still alive? That guy that comes up in everyday conversation like, is Dan Hudson dead? I don't know. Sure looks like it. It could be. About halfway. Like Judd Nelson. Is he still kicking? I don't know. Anybody? Judd Nelson. Yeah. He was on the Academy Awards in what, April they have that? Oh my gosh. He looks just like kind of a freak or whatever. Yeah, he's kind of rough.
Rough around the ears. I don't even know who he is. You don't know who Judd Nelson is? I don't know anybody's name. He was in… Breakfast Club. Rat Pack. Oh, okay. Yeah. Or Brat Pack. They call him. Breakfast Club. Yeah. Breakfast Club. That's my favorite movie. I just read that book. I saw a guy wearing a shirt like it. I said, I gotta have that. That's what I'm talking about. There's a man. There's a man. I can identify him.
He's got some class. He don't look dead. Give me that shirt. Breakfast Club. So you guys gave me a… I got a CD from you guys when you came in. Is that… How recent is that CD project? We recorded… It was last year ago, spring. So spring of 2009 and released like in middle of May, something like that, of 2009. Cool. Recorded it at Tiller Studios. I don't know if you know Steve Hudspeth, but does good work up there. Where's that at? Boy, middle of nowhere between Des Moines and Ankeny. I think it's a Des Moines address, but… Say Dell or Say the Sailor Building. Yeah, ish, sort of. You know where the Camp Sunnyside is? Yeah. It's nowhere near there, but…
Also not in Ohio. Yeah, it's not in Ohio. No, it's kind of in that general vicinity is where he works out. And the CD has five original songs on them written by Jeff. Is this CD available for purchase through the website? Yes, it is. Yes, it is. We don't have any kind of PayPal or anything, but just get in touch with us and we'll send one out. Facebook, too. And Facebook. Yeah, so the website is certaintyband.com. Correct. And are there multiple certainties on Facebook if people are trying to… Do you try to find one on Facebook? No, no, there's not. There's only one certainty, so… I already spelled you wrong. It's on a shirt, Daniel. The man is wearing a certainty shirt. That's exactly how I… Oh, okay, now I'm really going to look at it. Facebook's a little more current.
It's easier to just to do, because we keep up on that a little bit more. Yeah. If I, say, friend requested you, would you ignore me, or would you be like… Oh, no, you're on. All right. I don't know. We're still in debate about that. I go under the handle, Sheetman2010. Don't be shocked. We're going to put up a wall on that one. Those privacy rules of Facebook are really putting me in the streets. It's like a molecule or something. There's a good two minutes out of every show, every week, of Dan trying to find people on Facebook. What's that? I need to get some music for it. I need to get music for the amount of time that Dan spends in every show looking at people on Facebook, trying to confirm whether he spelled something right. I need friends. You need that tune that goes like… What's the name of that tune? From Benny Hill, isn't it? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And then you can fix your fake mustache. I think that you'll let Mike and I go ahead and write your next music. Yeah, definitely. Okay. Welcome to CertaintyBand.com. Have I heard tell of you guys being signed? No, just… We had an offer in December from a… It's an artist development company out of Nashville. And that was kind of an interesting thing. Ben was surfing the web, and I don't know, I think you got him off of, I don't know, Craigslist or something. And he said, well, I'm not doing anything. I'll just send him a note. And they got in touch with him, and they wanted to hear the CD. And after that, they wanted to talk to us. And so they had an offer for us. And it's like, no, it's not what we wanted. And so we decided not to do that. Were they swarmy looking? You know, they don't show us their pictures, so I don't know. Yeah. But you could hear it.
You know he's got a ponytail, and he's got it rigged up in a weird tree shape. You know how those guys are. You guys have a lot of demands when you play. Fresh flowers, yellow M&Ms, stuff like that. What's the demands when we play? When you play. Yeah. We will not play unless we have freshly cut flowers. No. We'll play for food. We'll play anytime, anywhere. I just so happen to have cosmic brownies that are covering tonight's thing. So we're in good shape. As long as there's more than 10 people, we'll be there. There you go, Dan. Go searching for on Facebook, and stuff. Go on the website. Where's Randolph? How do you spell certainty again? Surgery. First of all you're searching for, Dan. Surgery on Sunday.
Now, are you a four-man female group? Because that's what I have coming up here. I didn't know you. Mac and cheese. I had a Facebook page. Why can't I find you guys? You guys have me blocked, don't you? No, I don't think so. I'm pretty sure you do. Why don't you go over there and show them how to do it? I'm not. Oh, he's not? No, no, no, I'm not. I'm not. Yeah. We can find it here in a minute for you. It's certainly spelled certainly. Certainty. That's what it's spelled, right? I mean. This is starting to have to be a real debacle. Here's a meme where I have a saying that you guys are on, and everybody's talking about
blah, blah, blah. I wouldn't know. I've never tried looking it up myself. Oh, sorry. Here's your website. Ben, is this your territory here? No. I'm really disappointed. I could do that. Ben, there's a website. I'm fairly positive you guys blocked me. Wow. Which is not a bad idea. I didn't even know. Can you do that on Facebook? You can block somebody. Oh, yeah. Not that I've been doing, of course. Jeff doesn't know about it. That's why he's got seven million friends. I have a lot of stalkers. If someone tries to be your friend under the name, D Hudson, Daniel Hudson, Dan the Man
Hudson, or the Velvet Crush. Captain Awesome. Captain Awesome. You say, I'm sorry. How do you, boy, this is a nice one. You know. I've got the gas-powered one at home, so. I mean, that's the deal. I got the pedal-powered. Yeah. Let's see. Backspace. Your tab key, you had problems with that. It was fine before you touched it. Mike, did you catch it in that? Did you catch it in that video? We're not there. What? That Francis Chan video? No. Okay, sorry. Why?
Do I look like someone in the audience? Look under music. Hey. Hey. I watched 20 minutes of Jimmy Swigert this week. That's pretty good if you can go that far. I thought he was dead. He looks like he's getting closer than an eye. Yeah. Now, I'll tell you what. I'll tell you what I liked about it. He, uh… Hey, I didn't catch most of the sermon. I caught the tail end of it. But he, uh… He fisted, and then he closed his eyes, and then they brought out Worship Man, in, like, the coolest suit I have ever seen. I mean, this guy was dressed… He was dressed to the nines. He'd come jolly in his way out, you know, and then he looks around, kind of gives a coy smile, and he goes, The Lord!
And then he breaks into a tune, and then everyone's cheering. I'm like, ah… I'm easily entertained. And then the funny part was is Swigert was sitting, still on the stage, but sitting down, and he'd take his microphone up and make some kind of side comment every once in a while, you know? The song's going on, and he'd be like, yes, Jesus. So then he'd put the… And, you know… Don't forget I'm over here. He'd be like, by the way, Jimmy Swigert's on stage. Don't forget it. Let me slip my hair. But it was funny, because we were just talking about him last week, and I caught a tail end of one of his shows. I'm like, well, now I've got to watch. I used to watch him in the 80s. I thought, yeah, if I could grow my hair like that, and wipe my teeth, and get that little ding smile. I'd be in. My teeth don't whiten, because they're uneven. And if I try to put that thing on it that's supposed to get him to whiten,
like, this one here bumps it out. So the other one doesn't touch. I need a whiteness. You'll end up with one side. I'm blotchy white. It's bad enough as it is. I like to call it marble. Now you're starting to smile with your hands, like, check out this one shiny tooth. Look at it. It's my pride and joy. I call it Sammy. Sammy, the white tooth. I'm getting ready to go to Burger. I say, get him, Sammy. I think we must do my second computer. We can't find it. Maybe we can block me. Maybe we've got it. Maybe they took us off or something. I think the people in the chat found it. Yeah.
It's easier just to blame Dan. They're more technologically savvy than your foot in hand. Well, he's almost dead, too. You know, he don't have much going for him. If you guys did, don't lock him on everything. He's barely tooting around. Poor Dan. You know what? Just drive the hearse. It'll save us a lot of time. Dan, have you ever thought about pre-recording your own funeral? Like, doing your own funeral? I actually have. I thought about having a video. I have. When I was, like, 20, I had my whole funeral planned out. Because I didn't want to even think about it. I got what I'm going to wear, songs, that kind of stuff. It'll all change now. It'd be kind of worthless. Sure. You know.
Yeah, yeah. I actually thought about it. The other day, I was, like, playing on my webcam. I think, I'm going to make a message. But they'll throw the whole thing away, and they'll not know I made this great message. If you're watching this, I'm not. I'll carry out. If you think that your family's not going to carry out your funeral message, you tell me. I'll give it to you. Yeah, I'll make sure it gets done. I'll say, don't worry about me. I'm dancing. I'm singing. I lost all that weight that I was talking about just six months ago. New body. New body. Bus. I've never had a weight problem until the last six months of my life. You know, I would hasten to say that I realize you've been appearing to be your trusted friend, but I'm fairly certain your funeral tape would be your head pasted on an ostrich movie, and you kind of strutting around for, say, 15, 20 minutes. You miss me, don't you?
I'm Dan Hudson. All those things you said about me, you're taking them back now, aren't you? Or they're true. You owe me five bucks. Just put it in the offering. I said, diet, get closer to Jesus. What am I going to do? I can't do both. I can have brownies and Jesus. I'm coming to see you, Jesus. I'm coming home to you, Jesus. It's the big one. I'm coming home to you, Elizabeth. I'm still pretty upset about being blocked. I'm sure it's not intentional. What do I do to make it so that doesn't happen? Does anybody know? Is anybody a Facebook person? Well, other people, evidently, are on Twitter. Everyone else is able to get on. Maybe it's that tab key or something. Yeah, quick update.
The Certainty Facebook is up and rocking, so don't feel shy about going to check it out. We've confirmed that you're not being blocked. You're just incompetent. That's the consensus, that you're not being blocked. Otherwise, I don't know about it. So what do you guys have coming up? So we were talking about the Spirit Midwest Festival. First of all, if you want to check that out, it's really cool. You've got 40-plus bands. It's on August 6th and 7th. They've got the schedule out. They've got the times out, I think, for almost all the bands, if not everybody. It's absolutely free. There's going to be a donkey stand where they're selling donkey parts and live donkeys. Did you claim to put a rub on the donkey? No. Someone assumed, because I put a donkey in the smoker, that I probably put a rub on the donkey. Well, I would hope that you wouldn't put a dry donkey in there. But I put on my status. I think donkeys are naturally effluvian, and I don't think it's necessary to add anything to the aroma. I'm not so certain effluvian is a real word either, but I'm going to go with it. I agree.
They are effluvian. I've got a list of here things that I've said that I'm pretty happy with. Effluvian, entende, those are the two. Now, do you cook like a donkey like you would a baked potato? Do you, like, stab it with a fork to get it to pours open, and then you put some juice in there or something? Don't you, like, beat on them with a hammer, you know? Do we know anybody that cooks donkeys? What's it going to cost us to get a donkey cooking expert in here? I'll search for one. We can find one on Skype. I can't make any promises of his disposition. A guy that cooks donkeys for a living might be like rhinestones and basil necklace. I'm not sure I can do anything about that. If his name could be Jack, that would be the best. Jack the donkey cooker. We're going to go on a first-name basis with him only until we do a little research on him. I smoke donkey. I had to buy a big smoker. I put him in a hole, like on a big cart. That's spiritmedwest.com. You want to listen to Life in the Path on Des Moines and Flight.com. And you guys, what else you got going on?
So after the festival, what else is going on? Yeah, this fall we're real excited. We got an opportunity to go to a closed country and do some performances over there. We've got some friends over there that are missionaries, but with it being a closed country, a communist country, you can't be overt about Christ and everything. So what they're doing is kind of an indigenous church movement, and you have to have a business platform to be in the country if you're not from there. So their business platform is making and selling a purification system. Basically, it's a bucket with like a clay pot that you put down in it, and it's fired a special way, and it's got special silver things in it or whatever. Because the second leading cause of death in this country is, you know, uncleanliness. In Laos, right? Yeah, in Laos. Yeah, and dirty water and stuff like that. Bacteria, yeah. What? Why did you give me that look? He went out of the way to not mention the country. They'll be waiting for us as we get off the… And then when he said you cannot overtly show up for Christ, and we're on a Christian music radio, and you go, uh, in… You gave it away.
You know, and that's probably my fault. I mean, I told him, you know, before the show… What a mistake I made. I caught on to it. We didn't speak prior. How embarrassing. I wasn't paying attention. Well, you're running the whole show. I heard the story earlier. I was making some changes. You guys put the cameras backwards when you reset them, so I was changing the names. I believe Laos man is on the chat right now saying, we got your game. Boy, my bad. Wow. Anyway, Trinidad and Tobago. I'd expect more out of you. I would expect that out of you, Daniel. What an embarrassment. I was ready. I was going to say it.
I was going to spill it all. What do you think the chances, though, we got somebody from Laos? You got audience from Laos that are probably watching? Probably. Yeah. There's a 1 in 20 chance. My ego is to the extent that I believe people from all over the country are listening right now. They said, I hope he's wearing that hat. Turn it into Benfus. I hear they cook donkey. It's kind of cool, though. When we play, it's at the end of some Buddhist festival. It's like the Buddhist Lent. And then when that's over, when that's done, you cut loose, I guess, and you party and stuff. Oh, so are you going to play a couple Christian tunes and then hightail it like Scooby-Doo style at the airport? Well, they told us, come and play secular music, but what we think we're going to do is play some of the Christian music that we play. And just Frank had the idea that we insert a different word for God or Jesus or Christ or Holy Spirit or whatever.
Yeah, I got the idea from the Simpsons, actually, because they said you could substitute the word Jesus for baby or something like that. So it's like, oh, I love you, baby. Oh, I love you, Jesus. You know? Yeah. So we're going to substitute God and Jesus with the word love. I get a lot of sermon illustrations from that show. A lot of inspiration comes. Jesus is speaking to me right now. That brings a special kind of person to your church, I think. Well, I'm just saying. I don't cook donkey. Where's the music? It's not still rolling. Hey, Olsen did find a stew donkey with beans recipe. Ready? Here's the ingredients. Hit me. An onion, a bay leaf, two stalks of white celery, salt, black pepper, and butter. That sounds fairly simple. I like pepper.
And stewed donkey. Wait, no, there's more. Stewed donkey, one package. Wait. They sell it by the package? We're out there slaughtering our own donkey like a couple of suckers. Yeah, no kidding. They better not have a stand at the music fest. We won't be outdone. Before your eyes, that's us. We're the homegrown donkey killers. Paluco. All right, so here's the rest of the ingredients. Stewed, organic stewed donkey, one package. Corona beans and tomato sauce, one package. Polenta, one package, extra virgin olive oil. This has gotten expensive. I thought it was some kind of hobo recipe when you first read it, and now it's really gotten to kind of, you know, where you got to go to some kind of special store to buy these things. What's pimenta? Polenta.
What is that? Is that a spice? Isn't that a place in Italy or something? Polenta? Somewhere else that doesn't allow God music most likely. Hey, wait. Isn't that that bologna with the multicolored checkers in there? Oh, my bad. That's right. Same thing. Who came up with that idea anyway? They take a meat that is already amalgamized from 50 different parts and go, we need some colors. Same guy that makes the cosmic brownie. Olive loaf was my favorite. Remember that? Oh. Do they still make that? My old man used to make that turkey loaf, I mean, it's like processed turkey. Yeah, it's like a tin foil thing. Yeah, yeah. My mom loved that stuff.
So it's on sale one time, and the old man, he won a mad spree about it. He bought like 50 of them, and we had them every weekend we were at his house for like three years, until finally it led to vomit, and we couldn't have it anymore. We actually had it for Thanksgiving. Yep, yep, we did too. We spent one Thanksgiving at his house, and that's what we had. We put a stuff to that directly. The Genio, you don't think Genio's ever going to be a sponsor on a show, right? I doubt it. The nasty Genio turkey that Dad bought. It was gross. Home base polenta. I think the Genio people are Catholic. They're not going to sponsor the show. Best turkey on Sunday. It's just… And it's junky in the rest of the week. That's not true. That's not accurate. So if we just come up with some styrofoam little container, or styrofoam, you know, tinfoil things, I think the donkey's going to fly. You think Donkey Loaf would be too much to ask?
Donkey Loaf? We're going to need a grinder. It'll work. Hey, hey, Al. I'm on certainty now. I won't be bossing around here. Oh, good. You won't tell me what to do and what not to do. What happened? I'll sit here and pick my nose. You keep up your sass. Al keeps demanding more good tunes. Apparently, the rest of the show is not up to par until the dudes are playing. I'm sorry, Al. That's the format. Yeah. There was some good stuff. It's not our show. Typical banter. Donkeys. Nose-picking. Then more good stuff.
If we put the two tunes right in the beginning, you would have left already. Yeah, no. I sympathize. I sympathize. Yeah. Okay. All right. Well, it's coming up. A couple minutes. Two-minute warning. Two-minute warning. You guys, you have another one? Yeah. Yeah, we do. You guys happen to know this Al character? Al. Al Barnes. Oh, yeah, yeah. Good guy. You know Julie Barnes. Would you think Al looks a bit like James Dean, if you had to say? It's been a while since I've seen him.
How about that? He's dead on. Yeah. Since you've seen him last. Oh, really? He's jumped right into it. Really? Yeah. Especially from the nose down. I don't know about everything else, but nose down. It's how he's styling his hair, I think. I think definitely. Plus, he kind of rockabillies when he walks into a room. A hoobah hoobah. I didn't notice that. It's hip. Yeah. It's cooler than you think. At least I thought. I don't know. I think it's not. That's what I'm saying.
Yeah. Exactly. Just like the picture out in the lobby. Yes. He's a rockabilly. You've been eating. All right. So, we've been spending the hour with Certainty. They're at CertaintyBand.com. They're also on Facebook. Accessible by everybody except for Dan Hudson. I'm on now. Dan's got it. I'm in. I'm on the in crowd. There's song snippets out there? What's that? Yes. They're on the website. We've got song snippets. Okay. And there's a way to get in touch with us if you'd like to purchase a CD.
Or a t-shirt. Or a t-shirt. Yeah. We've got lots of t-shirts. Are you going to give those out at the festival? We'll have them available. We have like a t-shirt shooter. That would be so neat. We should. Oh, yeah. For the crowd. That's the best way to get stuff out of a gun. I always wanted to shoot one of those hot dogs out of them. Maybe some donkey out of a gun or something. That's the coolest thing I've ever heard. Yeah. That's what I'm talking about. I've always thought they should have more of a Gatling gun hot dog. Because those five or six they shoot, you know. Screw that. It's like we want a Gatling gun effect, you know. Okay.
We're going to need more donkeys, first of all. We're going to have to find a wholesaler. This piecemeal and these doggies together is not going to work. I'll tell you what I can do, senor. You're serious? They're serving donkeys out there. We're trying to get a booth to serve donkeys. Oh. And Julie's on board with it. Now we just have to come up with donkeys. Okay. Donkeys, a stand, guys to run it, and any type of professionalism that goes along with running a stand. We're going to sell live donkeys. And the ones that don't sell the last day, we're going to turn over and make sandwiches. Let's just say we're taking nothing home. Okay. I've never heard of eating donkeys before. Yeah, yeah. See? You're on board. You guys are awesome. Did I say donkey dog, too?
Donkey dogs. We've got three customers right here. These things sell themselves. We could have Ben do the sympathetic cry to people like, do you hear a donkey being slaughtered for food? Uh-huh. All right. We're going to turn things back over to certainty. They've been very gracious. Thanks so much for coming in, guys. We really appreciate it. Well, we look forward to seeing you out at the Spirit Midwest Festival and traveling to Trinidad and Tobago for your show. Again, it's certaintyband.com. Spiritmidwest.com is the festival. And we're going to turn over to certainty again. And the song is called His Place. Is it a rock? Is it a rock? Is it a rock? And… Boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. Hey, Jesus. Hello, my son.
Have a seat. Hey, Jesus. I was just sitting here with my stick, enjoying the sunshine. Jesus, I thought we were playing hide-and-seek and you weren't hiding. No, Peter. I wasn't playing hide-and-seek. I only told you that. So you would leave me alone. You see, I'm Jesus. I'm an important guy. I have important things, heavenly things to think about. You're always bothering me with your problems. And this guy's talking about what he wants for Christmas and… But Jesus, I thought you are our friend. I am your friend. I just don't have time for you. Oh, man. Welcome to the first Christian church meeting. Here are the rules. Rule number one, spend all of your free time in church. Rule number two, you're not allowed to have any fun unless you're laughing at how dumb the devil is. Rule number three, wear t-shirts with my face on it.
Rule number four, always smile and act happy. And finally, wear a stylish beard like mine. I knew it! Jesus! You said I could be a Christian if I gave up all my fun and grew this beard. Look at my beard! Well, I heard that you missed the prayer meeting for a silly game. But I had tickets to the Super Bowl, Jesus! Incredible! Leave your lights, throw down, kick the field goal, and the ref's there is good! Be quiet. Oh, football! No. Yeah, I can't believe my dad showed up. How embarrassing. Oh, crap. My fake beard fell off. They're totally gonna kick me out. Er, wait. Is… What's he saying? We're all going to play football or something?
Yeah, football! Yeah! Alright, stop. And rise. You can be a Christian if you promise to burn all of your footballs and never miss church again. Promise? Oh, boy! I think he can fly. Here he comes! It's time for me to tell you all what you've done wrong since I last saw you. Don't try and hide because I'm Jesus. I will find you. Let's start with you, Peter. You lied to your mother the other day. Andrew, you said a naughty word when you hit your finger with the hammer. James, you laughed at him when he hit his finger. Moving right along. John, you drank too much wine the other night. Not way too much. Just enough to make me angry. Matthew, we fell asleep in church, didn't we? Yes, we did.
And Thomas, you were slow dancing a little too close with that girlfriend of yours. Let's see. I forgot your name, so you're off the hook for now. Um… Philip, I saw you smoking a cigarette behind that big rock the other day. Thaddeus, I hate to say I saw you stick up your middle finger at someone who cut you off when you were riding your camel. Benjamin, you aren't wearing your WWJD bracelet. Jacob, I don't mind you saying my name, but not after you stub your toe. Frank, you know what you did. I just can't repeat it because I'm Jesus. All you sinners, come with me. Time to pay the piper. There's only one cigarette. Heard that. Listen up. Listen to me. I'm Jesus. Listen to what I have to say. I have done many wonderful things. I have healed many people of diseases. Performed many miracles.
So that I can tell you this. You're all evil. There is no hope. That's it. Hey, everybody. Look at me. I have the holiest donkey in the world. I have never had so much fun in my entire life. All right. Stop. Stop. Get me off this thing. I walked on water. I think I can walk to the door. Hey, Jesus. Will my donkey get into heaven now? Just one moment of peace, please. In the name of me is going on in here. Yeah, he said that to me. Can you believe it? And so I says to Keith, I says, listen, I'm a Pharisee. I got mad ladies lining up around the block.
What? Me see. There's that. There's that. Oh, man. We're going to get it. You're not supposed to be having fun. You're supposed to be praying and reading your Bible. And you guys, how do you expect to get into heaven by playing board games? Whoa, whoa, whoa. Act cool. Hey, guys. And these three think they can get into heaven just because they dress like the wise men. They said he was pretty mad. Well, I'd be mad, too, if I had to trot around the desert in those sandals. Have you seen them? They're so BC. You know, Rome's not only the most powerful nation in the world, but we're also the most stylish. I mean, do you know how cool you look? Why, thank you. No problem.
Check it out. Repeat after me. Thee before thou except after thine. You know, I think your feather plume is poofier than mine. Well, they look the same to me. What do you want me to do about it? Hope you don't think you're going to the dance on Friday. Ahem. There are those Pharisee thugs stirring up trouble. Let's go check it out. Yes, my associate and I were wondering. That is to say, we were hoping you could get us into heaven. We know a lot of Bible verses. As you can see, we're very nicely dressed. Nicely dressed for a camel dealer, maybe. I think he got that outfit from the temple lost and found. Well, I think he made that robe from his mother's curtains. How much money do you have? One coin. Are you serious? Well, I can get you more. No, I'm sorry.
You'll never get into heaven now. You had your chance and you blew it. Guess I'm going to be going then. Sucker doesn't even realize I kept his coin. Listen to Amplified.com. We're glad to be with you. We're in the studio with Bobby McFerrin and Bobby McFerrin. Thanks, guys. Dan. You're up next. What am I doing? Dan, I'm covering the background music here. You can't do a little filler? I was busy. A little filler. It sounded like it was going good over here. I didn't want to spoil it. That's probably a good idea. Good thinking, Daniel. Sometimes it's best just to stay out of things. All right. Well, you've been listening to Life in the Path on the Morning Amplified.com.
I want to be a big thank you to Certainty, who was in here in the first hour. They did a great job. I'm real excited to see you. You know, they smelled nice. They did actually. Wait, all of them? Yeah, all three of them. All three of them had a pleasant odor about them. I can't say that about most people I meet. I can't say I really think about it much. Present company inclusion. Oh. I didn't sniff them. I mean, I don't know what to say about that. It's kind of like a dog greeting, isn't it? Well, not exactly like a dog greeting. Did you go up and smell? Well, no. I just happened to say hello. It was a couple awkward moments, but I didn't know what you were doing. Well, I was just trying to see what they're about. That's the easiest way to pick out a meth dealer, is you take a quick whiff of them.
You'll know. And what would they smell like? Like meth, Daniel. What if I've never had meth? Well, if you smell them and it smells like something you've never smelled before, then 50-50. I've never drank kerosene. Maybe it's that. Well, it could be a kerosene distributor, or it could be a meth dealer. I haven't been paying attention for the last 30 seconds, and I'm just on the last tail end. I'm pretty glad I haven't. It doesn't seem like things are going well. We're having a pretty good conversation here. Okay. Go about your business, then. No, we were done. Okay. That was it. I don't know what marijuana looks like, either. Really? I'm like a total… There's dudes with shirts and stuff. I don't know.
I look at it and go, it could be growing in my backyard, and I'd be like, I don't know. It's a funny-looking leaf. I don't know. Okay, fellas. How are you doing? So what does it look like? You're musicians. You musicians. You certainly know marijuana. You play guitar. You must smoke weed. You speak to smoke the weed? Jesus grass? Eh. I want it. What do you mean, Jesus grass? That's terrible. Dan? Yeah, Jesus juice. All right. Well, let me ask you this. I don't remember Thessalonica saying no marijuana.
Now, I asked a guy about this. He didn't speak. I'm just saying, as a group, they didn't say… No marijuana here? Now, we talked about this because most of the form of weed that people are using for the crazy-crazy is grown scientifically. You know what I'm saying? Like, it's hybrid. Scientifically grown? How do I say that? Oops. Cross-pollinated. It's cross-pollinated. Like, the natural… The stuff you find that is of that plant species in nature ain't that bad. But most of the stuff that they're using for the drugs is cross-pollinated that they don't normally pollinate on their own. And that's what makes it frown on. Dig on that. I thought maybe it was the hallucinatory… Let me ask you this question, Dan. If I showed up to the church on Sunday morning with a doobie on me…
And a big hat. And a big hat. Like a two-foot hat. There's fuzzies on it. What's a doobie? Right. I had some marijuana on me. Okay. So it sounds like you could bring one and Dan wouldn't have any idea. You can pull all the anything over my wall. Okay. Whatever. I can't even say it. Good to know. It seems to be smoking a mini burrito. This guy appears to be an idiot. It smells all right. Ooh, can I have some of that? With us in the studio. You seem like a mellow man. You have some chips with you. You seem pretty cool and laid back.
What are they going to pass the wafers? I've got some snacks in the back office. With us in the studio is Saved on Sunday. Hey, guys. How you doing, man? Good, good. It's Clinton Daniel. Yes. And they stopped by at an untimely hour. I appreciate you guys coming in. Yeah, no problem, man. Especially after… You guys had a big CD release party this weekend, didn't you? Yeah, last Saturday we released our second album. We got a second full release album. Full-length album, excuse me, Revolution here. Check that out. Very cool. Yeah. We released it, and we had a couple of the other bands. I don't know if you guys have had them in. They're going to be at Spirit Midwest as well.
It's going to be… We had Dark Horse and Syndrome of Fire came in and played as well. So, yeah, it was really awesome. Had a great sound system. Killer light show. We melted a lot of face. It was pretty cool. Nice. Yeah. That's good. That's good. I could use a face melting. Face melting. My eyebrows, I'm hoping, would grow back even. Because when they left, I got a big hole in the left side. Yeah, that's the truth. Yeah. We had some people calling after the show. So, seeing if we could mail them pieces of their face that left behind. Did you say they're going to have to send postage first? I mean, you're going to say this isn't a charity war. This isn't cheap here.
I mean, come on. This comes with a price. I saw today a picture of the guy that had a face transplant, like, a year ago or something. And it kept popping up on my immediate call. Why does one have a face transplant? It was like a full face transplant. You just didn't like his face? Like the whole face. It was kind of droopy and stuff. I was like, I don't know if they were about it. Yeah, but he's asking why did he have a face transplant. So, can you pick any face you want? I don't know. You can look like Brad Pitt if you'd like. How do you find a guy that doesn't want his current face? In all six months, I'm going to have mine. Well, that's the thing. It's like, usually it's like, I need a kidney. The guy's like, well, I have an extra one. But what guy's like, I don't even want this face anymore? I think someone's like, a face donor when you die? Yeah, really.
The dude, they've got to be dead. I think he's been burnt. I think he had burns on his face. It was like in Mexico, wasn't it, or something? I don't know. You know, that would have been a detail to keep in the old memory banks, Daniel. Why is he having the face transplant? That's asking an awful lot for me. I don't even know drugs. Hey, you want to play the music while Dan tries to find it? Here it is. It was just mschsi.com. I was logging on. There you go, Dan. Go ahead. Pick it up. It's like a sweet Mexican fiesta. I cooked the music to cover that awkwardness, Dan. Go ahead. What about your business? It's not there. I wonder if I can put the face dude.
You're out. I'm sorry. I'm going to have to take you off. What an embarrassment. So where was your guys' CD release party at? It was actually at our church, Eagle Vision Church on the south side. Clint and I both go to that church, and we help lead in praise and worship there. It's kind of where we base out of, do our practices and stuff. They've got a sweet light rig and stuff, so they do a bunch of concerts there, actually. This Sunday, we're doing Candy for Nichols, and us are going to play and kind of help promote the festival next weekend as well. Sure. All right. When are your services? If somebody wanted to come out. Yeah, sure. They're Sunday mornings at 10 o'clock, and evening at 6 o'clock, and Wednesday nights at 7 o'clock. And the name of the church was? Eagle Vision Church. My dad, David Brown, is the pastor there. And Clint and I also help with the youth ministry.
What's that? Does he pay you to promote the church and everything? No. I'm just plugging in. I'm a good son. Does the Indian leg wrestle? What's that? Does the Indian leg wrestle? Once in the 80s, but I did not enjoy it. Wait, did you Indian leg wrestle him? What? Like, you and him Indian leg wrestle? I haven't in a while, no. I think I did when I was 6 or something. Would you say he's probably lost athletic ability or gained since then? Because here's what I'd like to have happen. I'd like to challenge him to an Indian leg wrestling, and I want to know what I'm getting into here. Okay. The last guy looked like Hulk Hogan, and I really ran my mouth way too much before I met him. And so I'd like to have… You ended up with a strained lower back at the end of the thing?
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And he tore my t-shirt instead of his own. It was very awkward. It was a very weird deal. He can go into kind of Hulk mode, maybe Beast mode. Well, maybe we'll play Canasta. We could line up our 10 best against, you know, you guys' 10 best. A 10-on-10 Indian leg wrestling extravaganza? One, two, three. You'll be the referee. Apparently, you're skilled for it. Jesus says go. So this dude was a Spanish guy. Yeah, okay. So the Chad misled me on this burn stuff. He shot himself in the face. Ooh, ouch. In Madrid. Did you see it? Accidentally.
No, okay. Was it Dick Cheney? That's after the deal, right? He's not allowed in Madrid. Don't show it to Mike. Didn't Dick Cheney shoot a guy in the face with a shotgun or something? It's Buddy. They claim to be an accident. Oh, wow. I changed faces, too. No, that's the new one. That's the new one. Oh, no. Oh, no. Sorry if you're out there. That's pretty angry. That's a doctor. That's awesome. Let's get it all over the place. Thanks. We need that big novelty hook. I'm going to have nightmares.
I got to… Okay, there I'm going. This is a man's face, Daniel. So, you grew up, obviously, you grew up, your dad's been a pastor. You grew up in that, right? Yeah, absolutely. Did you… I'm trying to think of what I'm trying to ask here. Daniel! When was the time in life that you found yourself following Christ on your own? On my own, actually, whenever I was 18, actually. I kind of played it the whole time and stuff until I really just kind of had a run-in. With God and tried to do stuff my own way there for a long time. Drugs and everything else. And I kind of got busted and really sat down and looked at myself. And, actually, that's really when I got saved, actually, and started pursuing it and whatnot. Cool. That kind of slapped you around a little bit. Yeah. So, you know things I don't know. I really, truly am ignorant. Yeah, he's not a funny man.
I'm not joking. I could tell you all about it. He has very little comic experience. These are all things that are true to him. Right on. I've yet to even puff on a cigarette. I mean, that's all. Well, good for you, man. The worst thing he's ever done is he stole some Dairy Queen patches from an embroidery shop back in the day when he was, like, six. Yeah. And he hid them in his garage for years until he threw them away. Some rules on eBay this week. Limited quantity. 1983 DQ patches. Get them while you can. Wow. With a post-it note that says, my biggest sin. Purge me, Lord, for 50 cents a pop. Disclaimer. They're all equal in God's eyes. It's just for advertising purposes.
That's terrible. Well, we'll probably talk about this a little bit later, too. But we were running the sermon here on Sunday. It was a lot about God's sovereignty and really what it is. What it really means, like, who you're dealing with. Was that kind of rough? Was that kind of strong? You know, I really enjoyed it for that exact reason, you know? It was basically, suck it up, shut up, he's God, you're not. Yeah, I really like the phrase, God doesn't give a rip. For some reason, I really enjoy that. It's like, you know, because I was actually struggling with this a month or two ago. Like, and I think I asked you about this. Like, what does the Lord want me to have? You know, does he want me to have anything? Like, I mean, if he wanted people just to worship him, he could have just created angels to do it and left us completely out of it. You know, and had no reason to create us at all. And then, like, the God is sovereign thing started leading me to think, you know, like, you know, the Lord knows exactly what his blessings are. Look what he took away and then gave back to Job. You know what I'm saying?
Like, he took away Job's blessings, took away his kids, took away his family, you know, his health, you know, everything. I mean, just shattered him to death. And then I thought, you know, this is only a big deal because they're the things that people seek in life. You know, people love their kids, you know. People love cash. People love livestock, you know, generally, especially at 250 a pound, found in the Spirit Midwest Museum. But anyway, and that kind of tied into my, you know, what does the Lord, you know, want me to have? And the sovereignty thing kind of brought it all back for me as in he doesn't really want me to have anything per se, you know. Like, he can bestow blessings upon me and allow me to have things or, you know, I have things and he knew I was going to have things, you know. But the long and short of it comes down to is, you know, he is God. He created everything. He has a set way that he wants things done. And there's really no kidding around about it, you know. I mean, this is exactly what he planned, and he set these things out for a reason. And, you know, it kind of took me aback a little bit on the way that I approach my prayer life. You know what I'm saying? Well, I think the modern-day Christian, we've kind of created ourselves a sovereign, and God's our little pocket toy that we just call it. Hey, you need a little cash, Jesus, you know, need a little of this, need a little of that. And I was troubling going to sleep at night. I mean, usually I don't, like, get troubled over what's going to happen the next day. And I was like, man, this is, like, so countercultural, even in the church, that it was kind of troubling.
And so you chose to videotape it just in case rotten tomatoes came from the back. That was a whole different thing. No, that was… Well, I think you're right, because one of the things that it flies in the face of, and it doesn't have to, but I think if you're the wrong, if you're thinking about things the wrong way, you think of all the times when you run into trouble in your life, you start praying, you know. And it's not that there's not value in that. It's that God is going to do what he wants to do, you know. And I think a lot of what we run into is the assumptions about what God is going to do and our judgment about what God does as if he has some explaining to us about his behavior. Right. I'm mad at you. Yeah, exactly. You know, the thing, Job is always a good example, right? But what I was thinking was is of all the things that he took away from Job and all the things that he did to Job, and you look at that, and, you know, then he goes on, you know, chapter after chapter, verse after verse of, you know, who are you, who are you to come back to you? That was my absolute favorite part, you know, and you said it on Sunday, too. It's like, you know, you get to the end and the Lord shows up and you're like, he's going to say, oh, my dear son, I'm sorry this had happened to you. And then the Lord says, now listen here, you know, you weren't here when I did this,
you weren't here. How dare you question me, you know? And that's huge because I would, you know, in your textbook flowery, you know, cloud sunset version of the Lord, you know, he shows up with loving arms and hugs you and says, I understand how you question me because bad things happen, you know? And that's, you know, that ain't how it is. The Lord says, do not question me. I made you. I'll take you. I'll do what I want, you know? But, you know, but as fierce and as stern and as straightforward as that response was, you know, this is the same God that looks at his grace the exact same way. True. Right? Right? With every fivers being, I will do what I want. And what I do is right because I do it. And I'm God. And you know what else is right? And you know what I follow and what I put out there as strong because it's the right thing to do? It's my grace. And that's the thing that I was thinking about this week because I think the initial message were like,
you know, I have no room to look at God and say why or question him. Well, that's true. He's a sovereign God. He does what he wants and that's his deal. But what he wants is you. And that's in the same category as the I gave Job some form of leprosy. Right? Right? I do what I want. And what I want is to forgive you. And I will forgive you with the same strength and with the same fervor as I do whatever else I want that you want to question me about. You know, and that's the same God. And that's the grace part that we miss. I mean, you need to understand the first part because if you don't recognize a world where God, you know, does whatever he wants to do and it's what God does, you know, you're not seeing the world the way God put it out there. Right? Right. But once you understand that, it's a relief because you also know that the grace that he throws out there has that same backing, has that same I am God, this is the deal. If I say it's gone, it's gone. Right? You come to me with something and I say you're forgiven for that, I don't know why you're sweating it anymore because I'm God and I can do what I want and I let it go.
Well, and that's huge too. I mean, that's the hardest thing for most people to get past, you know, is you give it to the Lord and say, Lord, forgive me. And it's, you know, he says it's a perfect forgiveness. It's gone. You know, and if you're still dragging that around, that's either your own fault or you're allowing Satan to let you do it. You know, and that's it. That's huge. Yeah. Amen. See, Dan. Let's talk. Out of your vision. And it was weird because I kind of like my God, Wrath and Fury. I miss the wrath and fury of God that sometimes gets taken out of stuff. Yeah. And so I did like the sermon. But I was thinking about it this week. And that was the big thing that stuck out for me was the fierceness of his grace. And that was weird. That was weird of a thing to come out of, you know, what the context of the sermon was. Well, you put that in the context of the previous three weeks. I should have probably wrapped that together better at the end.
I thought about that later. And that's what you really did it on your own, what you just said. So I don't need to. Thanks. We'll tack it on to the end of the five-minute sermon. Go ahead and throw that on YouTube. That'd be awesome. I'll do that. All right. We're going to get ready. Saved on Sunday is going to perform for us here in three or four minutes. This is another thing. My uncle actually sent me this. This is videos from Facebook this week. Stuff that I really like and that I got jazzed about. So, you know, dig on this for a minute. We'll come back with Saved on Sunday. If I had the pleasure of bringing out Christ, this is just how I would do it. It ain't got to be the way you do it. You might not think it's just right, but this is how I would do it. Ladies and gentlemen, it is my honor to introduce a man who needs no introduction. His credits are too long to list.
He has done the impossible at the time. He hailed out of a manger in Bethlehem, Jerusalem, by way of heaven. It's still headlining in the Catholic Church today. His daddy book of a book that has been on the bestseller since the beginning of time. Record for the world's greatest fish fry. He fed 1,000 hungry souls with two fish, five loaves of bread. He can walk on water, turn into wine, no special effects, no camera tricks. He has a head shot on every church fan across the country. Even before the kings of comedy, he was hailed the king of all kings, ruler of the universe, alpha and omega, beginning and the end, the bright and the moaning star. Say he's the rose of Sharon, and some say he's the prince of peace. Get up on your feet, put your hands together, and show your love for the second coming of the one and only. God has been good. Thanks so much for listening and hanging on through the break. You can listen to Live from the Path on Des Moines Amplified.com. Saved on Sunday, fresh off a CD release party this weekend, Revolution. You can go to SavedOnSunday.com and check it out. Is it for sale on the website? Yes, it is. You can email us there on the website. We're still in the process of getting it on iTunes and Rhapsody and all that jazz. It just takes some processing time. But you can get the hard copy.
Just send us an email off the website, and we'll definitely work it out. Our first album, Change the World, however, funded on Amazon, iTunes, and all that stuff as well. But this song we're going to play is actually called Let Your Love Fall, and it's the first worship song I've ever written. We usually stick more to the rock and roll, really fun stuff. But this is the first worship song I've ever written. Put it on the album, and it turned out really nicely. So it's Let Your Love Fall. Great. Go ahead. Let Your Love Fall, and it's the first worship song I've ever written. Let Your Love Fall, and it's the first worship song I've ever written. And you said that was your first worship tune? Yeah, it's the first worship song I've ever actually written. When we formed the band, we kind of wanted to stay away of kind of the stereotype you get into with Christian music. Everyone's just like, well, I just can't get into Christian music. It just doesn't rock hard enough. It just sounds like praise and worship and stuff. So we really kind of kept to the rock and blues and type side of that. But I just found myself writing that one day, and it turned out really nice, so I wanted to throw that on there. Do you guys normally play or perform acoustically?
Hardly ever. Hardly ever? Hardly ever. If we go to the Spirit Midwest Music Festival on August 6th and 7th and we see Saved on Sunday, what should we expect? Well, you should expect a lot of energy. We get on stage, and I always say I don't believe in ADD, but if it existed, I'd have it. We get on there, and we just try to throw it all out there, really high-energy songs, high-tempo, get the crowd really involved, and just have a lot of fun because that's what it's about with me and Clint, too, I'm sure, and the other guys. We just really like to have fun with what we do, and we like to see everyone else have fun with us. Cool. How long have you guys been together? We've been together a little over a year, yeah, like in effect, as it is now. Jeremy joins. Actually, almost two years now. Yeah, it's been about a year and a half, almost two years. Two years by the Julian calendar.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, we got together, and we've had some faces change and stuff. We actually are coming soon. Right now, it's just Clint in here. He's our bass player, and me, I sing and play guitar, and then our lead guitarist, Jeremy Taft, and our drummer, Matt Bullen. And so we're actually getting ready. Jeremy's taking off soon. He's transferring to college down in Nashville, wanting to do country music and stuff. So anyone listening out there, we're trying out lead guitarist, actually, currently for that. Dan, there's an opening. I'm in. There you go. Jeremy's listening. What's that? I think he's on. He's on the chat. Oh, awesome. He's hanging out. Cool. Cool.
Hi, Jeremy. How you doing? Oh, Jeremy said if you guys wanted the input, just tell him he loves everyone, and that's it. Oh, good. That's fantastic. I like this man. You should hold on to him. Tell him Nashville's not the place. I'm trying, buddy. Jeremy, don't be stubborn about this deal. Jeremy. But, yeah, so Spiritman West, we're really excited about it. But Al and Julie have both been just really great to us, helping us throughout their Spirit Midwest Showcase events. They've been having a lot out in Urbandale. They've been hooking us up, and we really appreciate them. I want to help them in everything we can. So it's going to be an awesome event, and it's ran by a bunch of great people. What's that? They haven't been so good to us. Yeah, Al, last time Al was here, he had like a sweat. It's hot in here, right?
So he was sweating in his T-shirt, and he took it off and kind of set it on the table and said, and that's for you, and then he stormed out. That's pretty much it. It was awkward. Shirtless and everything. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was awesome. See, Julie, that's why I can't have you getting a big head about this deal. So they did the compliment, and we're on the other side of that. Although, you kind of got him in here, so I'm happy about that. But that's because I could tell that Al story. There you go. We did a little waxing exhibition later, so it was kind of fun. Oh, wow. So what do you guys do? Are there day jobs? Yeah, I do a job to work for the church, and I work at Kingsway Christian College as well, part-time. Really trying to push this to where we're starting to make money. We just got a full sound system where we're going to be picking up a trailer soon and hopefully getting more full-time on that as well. So we're looking forward to being able to drop that stuff and be able to pursue it more full-time. So we're really excited about it.
So, Clint, how do you spend your days? Any job opportunity that comes up, I take it. That's how I get money. That's the way to live it. Pretty much my job. And Clint awakens and speaks. Hey, I'm going to pull it again. So you guys, you know, Olsen, that's it. Thank you. Mike's had a run of luck. So did you guys pretty much meet at church? I mean, how did you start playing together? I mean, Clint? Worship team. Yeah, that's what I figured. Yeah, yeah. We grew up playing in the worship team together. I mean, he came. His dad started pastoring. I've been going to the same church my whole life. And his dad became the pastor, and I started doing praise and worship. So we got used to knowing each other from that.
Sure, sure. That's kind of cool. So you're going off to do the country music, though, which is quite a bit different than what you're doing now. Who's doing country music? I don't misunderstand that. No, our guitar player, Jeremy Taft, is the one that's going. Oh, okay. Yes, right. I'm slow. Right. I was probably reading something else. But, yeah, it was really cool. Well, we've been playing together on the praise and worship team for, what, like five years? Four or five years. At least. Yeah, it was funny. We grew up playing with our, or, yeah, grew up playing. Yeah, we kind of did. We grew up playing with our pastor. He's a great piano player. He's going to be at Spirit Midwest, too. Dr. J.D. Brown is on there.
I'm going to call him. Do what you call him. You have a way with people. I tell a lot of stories. Yeah, from what I understand, he's going to be there, too. He's a fantastic musician. And we kind of really learned how to just play with him and follow him and really got really well ear-trained and just kind of feeling where each other are going and stuff. And then a drummer came in, and I started jamming with him, and then Clint got in on it, and SOS kind of formed from there. And then we were looking for lead guitarists, and I posted a thing up on Facebook, and Jeremy ended up, I didn't even know how he was my friend on Facebook, but he sent me a message, and he was like, oh, I play guitar. And we came over and jammed, and SOS. Cool. Did you go through any other name iterations before you landed on Facebook? Oh, man, we thought for a very long time. And, man, we came up with some stupid stuff, like Jubalcane. I don't remember that one. Yeah, I was really leaning towards that for a while. This is the one that's going to make it. Imagine the T-shirts.
And then I was at the bowling alley, and I hit a strike, and something went up, and it was like strike out something, and SOS came on the screen. I was like, SOS, that's kind of cool. What can I get that goes with SOS? So this all came from a strike at the bowling alley. I like to use it with the acronym, and then fill in the gaps. Yeah. Yeah, so then it just fell on us, you know, saved on Sundays. I was like, okay, cool. Because, oh, actually, yeah, a pastor was preaching, and it was like a Wednesday, and he said, you know, there were two people saved on Sunday. And I was like, there we go. Oh, that's what I did. Sweet. Thanks, God. That helps. So it's been really cool. I like it. It's got a cool thing to it. It kind of says what we're about, just right there in the title. And, yeah. What do you, besides the Spirit Midwest Festival, which, again, is coming up on August 6th and 7th,
did you guys, do you know what stage and time you're on? No. I'm not sure. I think we're on Saturday at 3 o'clock. Is that what we're talking about, Clint, before we came here? I think that's what it is. I'm not sure which stage. I'm not. I mean, our stuff is not like heavy, heavy stuff, so I'm not sure if they got us on the rock stage or another stage. I mean, we're not metal by any means or hard rock. We just, I mean, we're rock and just have a lot of fun. But I'm not sure we're like heavy headbanger stuff for the rock stage. There you are. Yeah, you're at 3.30 on the main stage. On the main stage, okay. 3.30 on the main stage. News to us. Thanks, Julie. Just after 9th Hour and just prior to Bright Light Parade. Who's before us? 9th Hour. I bet they're awesome.
That'll be our look. So after the Spirit Midwest Festival, anything coming up? We've got a busy weekend this weekend. We're going up to Rochester, Minnesota for a Youth for Christ fundraiser up there. And then Saturday, we're coming down to Oskaloosa, Iowa for a Youth for Christ fundraiser down there. And then Sunday night, our church is hosting a concert promoting Spirit Midwest. And then the festival next weekend. And we've got some other things coming up. Our Revolution song is getting picked up. It's really exciting. When we were recording this, we recorded this. Our producer is actually an eight-time Grammy Award-winning producer. Well, they're not all for producing. Some are for writing and this, that, and the other. He's worked with all kinds of people. And he just knows a lot of people. His name's Gary S. Paxton. You can look it up and read about him on the website. Really great. And he brought in a guy running for U.S. Senate, actually, in our recordings. And the guy really dug our Revolution song. And we recorded down in Missouri.
So it's a Missouri senator. He's wanting to use it as a theme song. So hopefully, we're going to be getting with him on his campaign trail this fall. That's pretty neat. Rocking out a lot of people. Yeah, that sounds cool. Yeah, I mean, Revolution's a lot of fun. It's kind of a, you know, stick your fist up at the establishment, I guess, if you will. And the way things are right now, a lot of people want to stick their fist up at the establishment and use that. So we'll help them along the way. You like that, don't you, Dan? You want to eat a brownie in celebration? I'm going to pray. Rachel here makes amazing brownies. Rachel, if that's true, I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to bring some in. We happen to have an opening next week. And the week after. What? What? You don't have to thank you. Yell from the corner. All right.
That was, you've been listening to, I shouldn't, I did, every time I reintroduce the show, I do it as if I've just given up on whatever we were talking about. I shouldn't do that. It gives the wrong impression. It's always after I'm talking, too. So I hate to cut us off, but you've been listening to Live from the Path on Des MoinesAmplified.com. We're in studio. We're saved on Sunday. They will be at the Spirit Midwest Festival. Is it next weekend? It is. Is it right next weekend? It's already. So it's at the Jordan Park. Yeah, it's at Jordan Park. It's on the corner of Fuller and Grand. Is that right? It's absolutely free. There's 40 plus bands. They're all free. There's three stages. There's vendors.
Free Inflatable Village. Yes. I think the thing says. There's Inflatable Village. Delights. What was the name of the people that are bringing the delights? Sandy. Sandy. Sandy Delights. I'll look them back up again. Sandy. And camping. You can camp there. Yeah. And that sounds like the way to go. Yeah. And if you go to SpiritMedWest.com, there's information about the festival. There's information about the… Yeah. Rose Lens Coffee Delights. Thank you very much. I told you.
You said something like that. You can get signed up for the camping. I'm sure they're also still looking for volunteers. You can volunteer. There's a prayer tent. We talked about that a couple weeks ago. That sounds really cool. Just some people getting with God while this whole festival is going on. That sounds awesome. And then what this is. You can volunteer. You can also donate if you can't make it. You can donate to the festival. It's a large deal. I'm sure they could always use some donations there. Oh, yeah. So tons of volunteers. We need lots. And there's still… I'm guessing there's still good spots available. Okay? So you're not automatically the parking lot guy.
Or the trash guy. That'd be the fun one. Me and Dan will be up there. Mike and Dan are taking the parking lot in the trash. That way. Exactly. If something gets away, you poke them. Yeah, yeah. Especially during the Revolution song. The trash stick. As the traffic thing. There you go. Right this way. Where are you going, Billy? Go ahead. Go ahead and make that right turn. See how that works out for you. They do need more prayer tent volunteers. Hey, look. If you haven't signed up for something, I really would encourage this prayer tent deal. If you've not been a part of something where there's a bunch of people just praying. There's people constantly praying.
I really would encourage it. We talked about this a few weeks ago about the prayer room that we do at our church. And this prayer tent is right up the alley of just, you know, there's something about being in the presence of other people. And we're all, everybody's focusing and praying to God for the festival and for other things that are going on. And be able to share prayer with somebody else. So, if it's something that you're, you know, you've never done before, I'd jump on that. Even before the parking lot duty, I would jump on that. And don't be, you know, if you're a little bit hesitant on it, pray on it now. Pray on it this week and see if the Lord doesn't point you to that prayer tent because that sounds like something great. So, I'd jump for that. That sounds like a lot of fun. That's really cool. I mean, that's like what it's all about. I mean, we go there and play rock music and it's a lot of fun. But it's really directed towards, you know, the main goal, which is to get, you know, bring souls into the kingdom. Like you were talking about, God, if he wanted, you know, you know, just people just to worship him, he would have just created angels. But the free will factor, you know, he wants people to make that decision. And what an awesome opportunity to be able to lead somebody to the Lord at a rock show, you know. I mean, just a direct, I mean, that's what it's all about. I mean, that's why we do it. And that is my goal. Do you get many people who really take that turn?
I mean, like during this weekend, have you, because they've done this a few years in a row now, right? I mean, have you seen? I haven't been at the, this is our first year with the festival. Okay. Yeah. I'm not sure. They had it at the, at another festival we've had at, but I didn't make it into the tent, so I'm not sure how it works. I'm assuming they take people's prayer requests and stuff, unless it's more of an intercession type thing. I'm not quite sure. No, no, I think it's, I think it's a couple things. From what we talked about, they're, you know, just in there praying, and then they can also pray with others and take prayer requests. And that's awesome. That's just as important as any of the bands on the stage. Oh, yeah. More important. So, I mean. Yeah, yeah. I mean, I can actually see that. People bring in their friends, and they don't know Jesus, and they're like, you know, Jesus, are you going to mention dorky people? And they're like, oh, these aren't really all that dorky. Yeah, exactly. Which is why they've asked me not to come.
Yeah, I mean, it's really. Like I follow that with an exactly. I'm going to cut that up for the YouTube clip, just so like it sounds like everybody's saying it, like a resounding exactly. Nice. Can I have some brownies? Exactly. Exactly. Yeah, anyway, so I would very much encourage, if you're even thinking about volunteering, well, first of all, volunteer. But, you know, if you're hesitant on where to go, I'd give that prayer tent a shot and pray on it this week. You know, don't let talking to your Lord and Savior intimidate you. He's asked for it. It's best to give him what he wants. And just start talking with him. And don't just you. Bring your friends. Make it like a group thing. Yeah. He goes, hey, guys, let's all go, you know, help out at this awesome festival. Just kind of make it a thing, really help them out. They need some help and be there for them. I've heard rumors our youth group's going. Are they?
Yeah. Are they going? At least part of them, I don't know. Some of them. Got an email anyway. They're invited. That's a way to keep up on it, Dan. I'm not in the youth group. Once again. I'm too old. I'm one foot in. Once again, it's the door factor. Are they going to be camping? No. That'd be really interesting, a lot of the youth groups coming to camp. That could be really cool. Our youth director is like three blocks from there or something, so they're going to hang out at the house. Okay. At the church. Yeah. Oh, Red Rover.
The other week, man, we were playing that outside in a youth group. This girl, man, she got jacked, man. She was running like full force, and these kids raised their arms higher, man, and it took her right in the face. It was like a rock star ESPN, like Troy Palomalo just wiped this guy out, hit it. Oh, no. Like, it was really funny when she got up. Everybody's like, do me a laugh. Is it okay to laugh? I got really quiet, and then she got up, and then everyone. But anyway. Oh, shoot, I did it again. I hate to stop this deal, but you've been listening to Life in the Path on Des Moines Amplified.com. We are in studio with Saved on Sunday, and they are going to treat us with another tune. The time's really fine, guys. Oh, wow. It's been an hour almost already? Yeah. Yeah, we've got another few minutes left to go, so if you wouldn't mind tickling us with another one. Tickle you with it?
I didn't say anything. Do it. Do it. You better do it. It better be how it goes. I didn't sign up for this. Is it Let It Shine? Yeah, the song's called Let It Shine. It's really cool. Interesting story on this one. We were all set to go record. We were going to leave on a Monday and start recording on a Tuesday. Clinton and I did an acoustic thing, which is a rare thing for us to do some acoustic stuff. We're actually working on an acoustic album, though, which we're really looking forward to this January. But check it out. It's saved on Sunday.com later. Be our friends on Facebook and MySpace, all that stuff that I have to say. But anyway, before we left, I was really upset because I only had 11 songs for the album. We set the date. And I feel like unless I get like, if I pay 10 bucks for a CD, I feel like I get cheated
unless there's 12 songs on the album. So I was just sitting up late one night. I couldn't sleep. And I was just picking around on the guitar. And I came up with this. It's a real simple song. And we played it at an acoustic show. And, man, we got like a standing ovation. Everyone loved it. And it's just kind of a tribute to Christians and how it's hard to live the day-to-day as Christians and let your light shine. So the song's called Let It Shine, just encouraging you to let it shine for all to see. So here's Let It Shine. Sing the song to all of you. Gave your life down too. One by faith and not by sight. Hold your light up to the sky. You're on the sea and burning bright. So let it shine. Let it shine. Won't you let it shine. Shine, shine, shine.
Won't you let it shine. The proud that you've seen this all are all of you. But you gave it life down too. Gave it all to you. The proud that you've done by sight. Hold your light up to the sky. For all I see and burning bright. So let it shine. Won't you let it shine. Won't you let it shine. Won't you let it shine. Won't you let it shine. Won't you let it shine. Won't you let it shine. There's a funny story about that. Our lead guitarist and our drummer never actually heard that before we even stepped in the studio. And we're like, hey guys, we wrote a song. Here it is. And they just picked it up and recorded it right there. Turned out really awesome on the album. Really kicks heavy. Sweet lead guitar solo and all that kind of stuff.
And that's on your new CD? That's on the new CD, Revolution. Yeah. You can check that out. Actually, you can go on our MySpace at myspace.com slash savedonsunday. And I think we've got five of our new songs up on there. And you can kind of preview that. Check it out. And if you'd like a copy, you just give us an email until it gets up onto the iTunes. And while you're there on MySpace, add us as a friend. And we'd like to keep in contact with you and everything else about what we're doing in the future. Cool. Yep. Very cool. Well, you've been listening to Live from the Path on Des Moines Amplified.com. You can catch our show on livefromthepath.org. You can find archived shows, the current shows. You can sign up for the podcast. We all attend Pathway Church in Johnston. We meet at 10 a.m. at Wallace Elementary on Sundays. Soon switching to a couple services here in September. About seven weeks.
About seven weeks. Yeah. Coming up. So, if you're looking for a church, we'd love to have you come out. More importantly, if you're looking for a relationship with Jesus Christ, you can visit Pathway Church. And that website is thepathonline.org. Saved on Sunday. Thanks so much, guys, for coming in. I really appreciate it. It sounded great. Thanks for having me. I'm excited to listen to the CD. Oh, yeah. And we brought you guys some albums. So, you can take it out and check it out and tell everyone how great you are. Albums and Brownies? That's what I'm talking about. That sounds like the coolest thing ever. Well, so, thank you so much for listening. We really appreciate it. We will see you next week. Next week, we're going to have Tim Cooper and friends, and sometimes friends in the ne'er-do-wells
are going to be in the first hour. And then we're going to get to speak with Vance Lambert, and he's going to be with us on the second hour. It's leading right up to the… Wait, that'll be after the festival. No, no. That's still before the festival. Okay, well, cool. We still got time. We should be full soon. It's going to be great. Anyway, so, we'd love to see you next week. Thanks so much for listening, and have a nice week.
