Segments
- Show open and buffet riff 0:00–3:54
The host opens the live show, introduces guests Jim Scott and Steve Freeman, and the hosts launch a comedy riff on buffet dining: calling buffets the minor leagues of food, mocking the Rainforest Cafe, and debating the point of a buffet inside a zoo.
- The chocolate-milk obsession 3:55–10:00
A running comedy thread about an obsession with chocolate milk: a church kid who brought chocolate milk to the communion table, late-night fridge sneaking, kids demanding chocolate milk every school lunch, brand debates (Anderson Erickson vs Roberts vs Nestle), and Hy-Vee sample hustling.
- Chat handles and the 'not Ben Foost' gag 10:00–13:30
A listener asks how to get kids off chocolate milk; the hosts joke about getting kids in a headlock, then the chat fills with fake handles ('not Ben Foost', 'not Jim Scott') as the hosts riff on anonymity, and a host-framed question asks whether chatting under another name is dishonest.
- Jim Scott interview: testimony and music ministry 13:30–16:55
Jim Scott introduces himself — West Des Moines, wife Catherine, five grandkids — and shares his testimony: growing up in a Christian home in Ames, years of singing and dancing at the Holiday Inn lounge, a conversion during a 'Life' revival in Pella, and now singing, writing, and running 'Strings of Life' music ministry.
- Dan Hudson embarrassment reel interstitial 16:55–19:30
A short comedy interstitial: a 'Dan Hudson highlight reel' of embarrassing clips is played over the music while the hosts mock a host's on-air slip-ups.
- Jim Scott performs 'Onto the Lamb' 19:30–23:45
Jim Scott performs his original song 'Onto the Lamb' live in studio — a worship song about the finished work of Christ — while the hosts hold a harmonica and keep time.
- Queen, musician unions, and Jim's websites 23:45–31:05
Between songs the hosts riff: Queen's longevity and Paul Rogers, the joke idea of musicians unionizing (with a callback to the Amway 'tithe union' joke), and Jim plugs his sites notmikefuss.com and stringsoflifemusic.com while giving his testimony CD to a caller.
- Worship leading, the Great Commission, and Ninja Turtles 31:05–35:17
A host asks Jim if he leads worship; Jim says he leads about every other Sunday and loves getting people to sing. The discussion turns to the Great Commission — why believers don't share Christ — and digresses into a long fond digression on the Ninja Turtles cartoon.
- Songwriting process and theology in worship music 35:17–45:42
The hosts ask Jim how he writes songs: he describes writing the words first with a rhyming dictionary, then the melody and bridge. The discussion deepens into theological discernment in worship music — the danger of feel-good songs that aren't biblically accurate, the 'I Will Not Worship' hymn about the golden calf, and Jim's line that the only song he wants played at his funeral is 'Amazing Grace.' Influences mentioned include Fernando Ortega.
- Midwest Spirit festival, the 'Pants' nickname, and the tithing nickel 45:42–51:43
Jim recounts his Midwest Spirit Music Festival set ('sing like Jesus is coming back this afternoon'), a host begs the question of the 'Pants' nickname (last name Wetstone, 'wet pants' — the hosts' studio nickname), and the hosts plan to 'tithe the nickel' from the show archive for Jim's Strings of Life site.
- Jim Scott performs 'Jesus Is My Life' 51:43–55:45
Jim Scott performs his second original song, 'Jesus Is My Life,' a testimony song describing his pre-conversion life ('my heart was locked with the devil's chain') and his new life in Christ.
- Comedy bits: the selfish prayer and the Satan interview 55:45–1:01:17
Two back-to-back comedy bits. First, a performed mock 'selfish prayer' — a rushed, self-centered prayer about meetings, a tattoo-removal prayer request, and asking God to train the church to clap on two and four. Then a mock interview with Satan (named 'Craig') who explains his strategy of using church divisions — hymns vs praise songs, suits vs jeans — to split churches, quoting 'a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand.'
- Break banter: water, Mexicali soup, and heart-attack scares 1:01:17–1:06:08
Back from break the hosts banter about staying hydrated, a Mexicali soup recipe with rotisserie chicken, and two scare stories — a host's wife Sarah waking up thinking she had a heart attack (it was indigestion) and Danielle's ER visit — plus a gag about finding the Bible story of Jael and Sisera.
- Do denominations come from the devil? 1:06:08–1:17:46
A chat question asks whether the devil instigated church denominations. The hosts argue no — denominations grow from human pride and personality clashes (the 'I am of Paul, I am of Apollos' tendency), not Satan. The discussion ranges through the essentials-vs-nonessentials framework (the gospel and the person of Christ are essential; worship style and tongues are not), using John 14:6, Romans 10:9, and Ephesians 2:8–9 as the test, and the Jerusalem Council in Acts 15 as the biblical model for handling disagreement.
- Real church equals real God, and milk of the Word 1:17:46–1:23:20
The hosts riff on what makes a church genuine — 'a real church equals a real God,' evidenced by changed lives — and the milk-vs-meat analogy for spiritual maturity: some Christians need to grow past only drinking milk and start chewing meat, meaning they should be ready to answer hard questions instead of running from them.
- 1 Corinthians 6: why not rather be wronged? 1:23:20–1:29:32
A host found 1 Corinthians 6 while listening to the Bible on CD in the car and reads the passage on air: believers should settle disputes before the saints rather than drag one another to court before unbelievers, and the host drives home the verse's punchline — 'why not rather be wronged?' — as the gospel heart of Christian conflict resolution. A host admits he struggles to apply it and keeps score in arguments with his wife.
- 'I will not be mastered by anything': strength over temptation 1:29:32–1:33:01
Continuing in 1 Corinthians 6, the host centers on verse 12 — 'I will not be mastered by anything' — and preaches strength over temptation: stop managing sin and be mastered by nothing but Christ, seek first the kingdom (Matthew 6:33), and remember God is not scared of our struggles. A host testifies to quitting a 19-year tobacco habit by prayer and Scripture memory, and another urges believers to get help rather than stay 'on the edge' alone.
- Spiritual disciplines and this week's witnessing challenge 1:33:00–1:42:02
A chat question asks what disciplines help Christians grow; the hosts answer Bible reading, prayer, fellowship, memorizing Scripture, and accountability groups ('LTGs'). Discussion pivots to personal evangelism: the geologist who witnessed to a coworker, why casual conversation about Christ feels hard (fear of being asked a hard question), and the hosts close with a challenge — every listener talks to someone about Christ this week — before Jim and Steve depart.
- The tent-peg reading: Jael and Sisera 1:42:02–1:44:41
After the guests leave, the hosts finally find the passage they'd been hunting: the Song of Deborah's account of Jael killing Sisera with a tent peg (Judges 5:24–27), read aloud with comic commentary about the grotesque detail, followed by a digression on whether warm milk really helps you sleep and why.
- Warm milk, pudding, and mac-and-cheese 1:44:41–1:45:21
The food talk keeps going: warm milk as a sleep aid, warm pudding, and a host's confession that he loves mac-and-cheese so much he could eat it every day — with a joke about chocolate-milk-flavored mac-and-cheese.
- Next week's guest: Syndrome of Fire 1:45:21–1:48:26
The hosts preview next week's guests: Syndrome of Fire, a metal band from Pella whose guitarist they met at the Midwest Spirit festival — 'dreadlocked, tattooed up' metalheads who are committed Christians — plus a callback to the musicians-union joke and a mention of the 'tithe union.'
- Reading the Bible straight through: Acts and Jeremiah 1:48:26–1:49:57
The hosts encourage reading Scripture in context: one host is working through Acts, others are in Jeremiah, and they land the analogy that the believer's workplace is their 'Babylon' — the mission field where they are supposed to minister, like Jeremiah to the exiles.
- Consequences, half-picked Bibles, and sign-off 1:49:57–1:54:20
The episode closes on consequences: every choice carries one, and atheists' objections to faith (like a dead child raised only to die again) borrow Bible stories while skipping the parts about consequences. The hosts land on reading the whole counsel of Scripture rather than cherry-picking, tease next week's show with Syndrome of Fire, and sign off.

We're doing good Good I like their shirts by the way What are you still doing over here? Will you get out of here? If I wear something like that they abuse me So I should have been quiet just to see if you say anything I can't do that there Yes I'll give them five minutes before we become acquainted There you go And then we'll talk about how they fell out of the Rainforest Cafe Sorry guys That's good food You ever eat there? We love it I was very heavy You get one of those volcano brownie things Yeah Which Rainforest Cafe are you talking about? I don't know I've beaten a couple of them I don't remember where Are they just attached to zoos? Well there's one in Minneapolis in the mall up there Yeah We don't have one here right? No No No Okay so we go to the Ryan's Steakhouse and Buffet Oh it's gone downhill Okay so here's what I've discovered about buffets Is they're like the minor leagues of food Yeah
You know like everything that I would not order as a main dish That's what they have at the buffet You know Like when I go to a restaurant I don't ever order spaghetti But that's what they're offering Yeah Like I never order fried chicken You know But that's what they have there Like the buffet is just like food that hasn't made it up to the major leagues yet If it would just perform better maybe it would get our natural That's true It's very rarely like Yeah You're right I'm just saying Hmm Except for a breakfast buffet Now these are solid Well sure Like you can't lose at a breakfast buffet A little bacon Little eggs But other than that It's the B team of food at these buffets like constantly Yeah You're saying side dishes only Although there's no other place I've gluttoned myself on this instant pudding that they had available at the Ryan's Steakhouse one time I must have eaten a full tub Whatever it is they had available I ate it Because there's no other appropriate place to do such a thing Yeah And I was pretty happy with the whole deal And you feel like you've got to get your money's worth Yeah I'm going to show them You know That's what you think when you go in there No I don't I've never thought that I've read about it in articles A vengeful tactic How dare you open a restaurant I'll get my money's worth out of these guys Fill and pop Dump and pop You don't get looking like this Accident
They see here comes trouble coming in It's old Dan Hudson Sean and I used to walk in They're like oh crap Oh does anybody order steak where? Does anybody order steak where? At the Ryan's Steakhouse? I don't think so I always get the buffet Yeah I'm too cheap to like order food on top of it Yeah Well plus you'd have to wait for it Like you're sitting there watching everyone else eat And you're like mine's coming And that's a steak night at Ryan's They'll do that Well I mean it is a steakhouse Isn't every night steak night? No Really? Today was macaroni and cheese night I guess Do you ever notice the kids they come back with every carb known to man Macaroni cheese Potatoes and gravy That's what they want Fries And you're like go back and get some protein You know I don't follow the food groups like you're saying Oh But I'm thinking Breads and puddings Jim Scott Yes sir Do you ever order steak on top of your buffet? Very rarely What kind of situation would have transpired where you've done it? Like did you have a real bad day? At Ryan's never No I mean when you can get that many different things for that price It can't be the upper echelon stuff I agree with that That's a good point Well you know they have a beverage bar now That you pay extra to get a beverage bar Where you can get whatever drink you want I guess At Ryan's? Yeah except for there's no
You can't get milk no more That's the best part of going to other windows places I know That's exactly right I'm sorry Did that man say chocolate milk? He did We're buddies forever You and I I can see the bomb being formed Right in our eyes You can't beat that I mean That's part of the steakhouse Yeah chocolate milk is a fantastic bargain at the steakhouse We'll have to get you a shirt Is that what you have to wear? Oh yeah I'll do it I'll do whatever you gotta do to be in this Is that all it takes? Yeah Right out the window I'll wear whatever you want I'll be whatever you want me to be Just show me where this chocolate milk is at Actually It was And we'll talk about this just a little bit later on But we had a Something for the church That we ended up doing this weekend And There was There were like six gallons of chocolate milk available How many of those gallons did you drink personally? Two Two Yeah Yeah Here's what happened Is he walked in and they said Okay go ahead and put your name on the cup And Ben wrote his name on the gallon That sounds perfect Yeah The funny part was Is like all the people serving Like Oh he's clever
You jerk If I had done that They were like Throwing me out They thought he was just joking He wasn't joking He took it with him No No and then they brought it out to me I just I drank it And then they had more And I took it home It was awesome Oh man I had to stop having it at my house Because like I don't have I don't drink beer But I have a beer belly And it's because I keep chocolate milk in my place So I had to I had to give it up But there was a little hanging over From this From this gallon that was left And yeah I took it I've been I've been suffering off it I can imagine it would last long at your house Well it It does Because I I loathe to be the hypocrite Who refuses to let my children have chocolate milk So I kind of have to drink it in the In the swaths of the night So like once they're asleep Before they're awake Or I This is And this is terrible Because then I I have to Creep myself up to the fridge Kind of duck down under the
Door of the refrigerator Open up Take a little swog of it And put her back And then she goes What are you What are you getting in there daddy Apple or something You know whatever Whatever I can see And then of course I have to eat the apple So I have not told a lie This is ridiculous I know I would have just said You can't have chocolate milk I'm the adult You're not Daddy loves it That's why I can't have it I can't control myself In the You know Vicinity of the substance So have you been to Any counseling for that No I don't want to Would that be CC Or Chocolate milk cravers Or I know It was Ben Foos You know you You put actually Put a lot of thought Into that That acronym Before you pumped it out I didn't know Where you were going I didn't either I wouldn't I don't want to admit I have a problem Because I want to keep doing it No that's the first step Isn't that the deal
He's not ready Do some Yeah do some sort of You gotta hit bottom first Yeah What's that look like Face down in a pool Of chocolate milk In your own kitchen Swimming around Actually It sounds like diabetes Actually I am Daniel there's nothing Funny about diabetes I wasn't laughing Okay I'm saying that's serious That'd be bottom Wouldn't it Perry Meadows does have A decent buffet I'll agree with that I haven't been there Ever I used to go there For the buffet I've never like Done the other stuff there But I used to do the buffet It's been years Tell us about your experiences I know I have not much to say It's Sean I used to go with Sean All the time We'd go out there On Sundays after church We'd do tear down We'd hold crew We'd go out You have a knack Of saying that you've been somewhere But with no side story There's no real story Oh by the way I went shoe shopping Yeah but did they have Good chocolate milk
I don't know I'm much beyond that I don't think they did I think they If I remember Perry Meadows correctly They had a 2% And a skim Because they had Cereal offerings But I don't believe They had a chocolate milk Available And sometimes they cheap out And they get you They get you like The Roberts chocolate milk Which I'm not for Steve Freeman Maybe we're not buddies anymore Do you drink the Roberts On occasion But I like the other stuff better No Would you say other stuff That's a safe answer What do you mean by other stuff He's a politician Anderson Erickson Okay Of course Nestle You name it See now Nestle Nestle I think is inferior To the AE chocolate milk And also nefariously overpriced Like it's a stiff one It has to be on sale Or else I don't go there Okay I'm on board We're back buddies again Okay Steve We're like pretty legitimate here We're like the same guy I used to get myself In a lot of trouble At Hy-Vee You know they had those samples Yeah We got the crackers
And all the different cheeses You know go Chow down there And then head over And grab a thing of chocolate milk And chug lug it on the way home And I started packing on Too many pounds that way Yeah You pulled the old I'm Steve Can I have a sample And then mustache Hi I'm Bill Can I have a sample It's best when they have The samples of the chocolate milk Then I really like it By the way They gotta go buy it Jim is there anything In the store That you're likely To oversample if available Yeah there's several things I definitely like The breakfast stuff Like when they cook up The sausage Yeah I like that Sausage Omelets That sort of stuff Yeah I can see that Yeah They never let me Sample cleaning products Which I wish they would do It's kind of I've been at Sam before And they're trying to do Like you're canning out samples And there's like Cleaning products I'm like What am I supposed to do Yeah what are you gonna do Just start cleaning the store
I'll make a mess with myself I'll go get the toilet I'll let you know how it turned out I mean You wanna try it out Looks like aisle 3 Needs a skimming There you go Yeah How unfortunate Oh okay That's a good question Lehman So the question was How do you get your kids To not choose chocolate milk Every day for lunch at school What basics do you have To tell them to choose The white milk Yeah And this is a terrible reason To homeschool your children But that's exactly Why we're doing it right there Is I don't wanna have That conversation We have control Yeah so We're gonna homeschool the kids Simply so I don't have to Let my hypocrisy abound To the school system Second of all I would have to advocate Like if I'm being honest I would have to give them Extra money to buy two Because frankly That one serving Just isn't gonna do it That they serve at the school So you could have them You could call the school And tell them They're allergic to it That's a dirty lie Well but you don't have to say What type of allergic to it Like they're allergic to it
Because they'll get in trouble When they get home That's the allergy Is that a stretch Is that gonna be a problem What if I do the air quotes Does that I mean Does that fly I'll pray on that one Lord how do you feel On air quotes With allergies and chocolate milk Here's what I mean Here's what I don't mean Is that gonna work Maybe not I like it So you've been listening to Live from the path On Des Moines Amplified Dot com If you're watching right now And you're just watching There is a chat That goes along with the program On the front of the Des Moines Amplified Dot com website There's a button That says watch And participate Go ahead and click that And that'll break up The screen that'll give you The video of the show And also the chance To see what's going on In the chat If you're afraid to chat I get that But you can at least See what's going on In the chat Wait wait wait You get that I get it I'm a lurker I'm a lurker I don't participate in it Yeah but you wouldn't be afraid
I understand lurking I'm a lurker I'm not like Oh I better not Okay If you're creepy About the chat How about that Okay now hold on a minute If you're going to Black and white this thing About telling a falsehood Words are important Can I log in under the name Ben Foost When I'm chatting Is that an out and out lie That'd probably be dishonest Alright so hold on So you're saying Is it dishonest To go into a social Networking site And use a handle Besides my own name Yeah Oh no It's And well I'm sorry Mr. Gray Area Where's your line at I mean if it's a made up name If it's a If you're not representing Someone else Well what if the name I made up was Burl Ives What if that's just What came to mind Well that works What if I don't know Who he is And I think it's Completely legitimate So I can use Fictitious people I made up But not a legitimate guy Sure
You're not misrepresenting Them then You're not saying This is what People think Ben said this So what if you just Went under Not Ben Foost Or not Burl Ives Okay that's solid Yeah Okay so that's the deal Definitely not Jim Scott That's what you could say But nothing to be afraid of though Yeah Which was my point Okay I'm not afraid of it Okay so if you If you want to chat And you don't want people Knowing who you are Just say I'm not Ben Foost Or I'm not Jim Scott Yeah Yeah yeah Okay I think that works Okay this sounds alright This sounds This is the way to be honest And you can really honestly You know Not be Yeah that's true Unless there's another Jim Scott listening to the program And he's yellow And he doesn't want people To know him Or else will someone else Say wait a minute I'm not Ben Foost either Yeah And then you have 15 Not Ben Foost on the chat Not Ben Foost 2
Not Ben Foost 3 Well those are all accurate Yeah they're Yeah Okay this seems to be The way to do it Solid Alright well why Dan Turns off that fan over there Is that bothering you? Yeah So like I said You are listening live From the path On Des MoinesAmplified.com We are in the studio With Jim Scott And Steve Freeman So actually Time is flying We're going to get ready To do a What do you need this? We're going to get ready To Jim's going to perform for us Jim why don't Before you get up And get ready to perform Why don't you just Tell me a little bit And tell the people Who are listening A little bit about yourself Well my name's Jim Scott I live in West Des Moines My wife is Catherine I'm a Christian musician I grew up in Southern California As a Union rock musician Seen both sides of the coin What does that mean? A Union rock? I mean that means like That means you belong to a union And you're represented by a business agent And you're paid a scale So in the music industry You'll go a lot of places and play And come out of there with nothing
And in the union you don't They have to guarantee you a scale rate So you're going to make money at it And you can make ends meet To where a lot of times Doing what they call scabbing Just going out and playing places And venues on your own You can come out a lot of times Losing money You know Because it costs money To go do a show But I did that for a long time And it destroyed my life And a good friend of mine That had been a musician Had fallen off the face of the market And people started telling me Hey man this guy's a Jesus freak And he started calling me As my life was falling apart And he invited me to come visit Ames, Iowa Where he was putting together Christian rock concerts Which I did I come here for two weeks And that was 17 years ago God has tremendously blessed my life I completely got out of music And because it destroyed my life And then after I was out of it Going to church Just trying to know The person of Jesus Christ more God put it up on my heart one day In fact I was in my bathroom Getting ready for church on a Sunday And I had never felt a burden Of the Holy Spirit ever before like this And what he spoke to my heart Was all these years You played this music To glorify your flesh And now I want you to do it To glorify me And you're refusing to do it And it's breaking my heart So ever since then About 16 years ago
I embarked on music ministry Contemporary Christian Original I don't I break the mold I don't I don't follow suit With what most Worship leaders do And what most Christian contemporary artists do But I want to be real And I want to articulate What God puts on my heart I don't want to sound Like a record That repeats itself Over and over And over and over again So I spend a lot of time Examining the scriptures I want to be correct Theologically And I want to be I want to be true About things And I want to be Articulate about it So people know Who I am And then when they meet me I am who they expect me to be I'm not somebody different I like that I like that business About About coming after you About You refusing to play I mean that's That's something That I think sometimes People It takes The appropriate perspective To really see that About God moving in your life In that way And I think that sometimes That's one of the biggest hurdles
Is that that's there And recognizing that That's what God's after you about I like it I like it Okay Shoot I had a question And then I got I got thrown off By how much I like that business And now I've forgotten it completely Nope Gone Alright Well I'm going to play We have a little bit of a Clip of some of Dan's embarrassments That I'm going to play for you Oh you're not going to show that I am going to show that Oh man Because I love it And that while Jim gets ready And then we're going to come back And Jim is going to play Onto the Lamb For us And again you're listening to Live from the Path On Des Moines Amplified Dot com I mean Who is Who is And Hold on Let's back up I just lost my shorts I got a phone call No I was I was I wasn't listening I am boring And what Get over yourself We totally I mean I don't know I mean
Come on Come on And half the time I'm just ignorant I just talk like I know something Well that's Don't care Like oh yeah Hey Hey you know what Oh yeah Hey you know what Oh yeah Oh no go ahead And open your gifts We want to watch I've worn a dress Excavating Excavating Ex Excavating Excavating It's excavating It's not excavating Donut What's a doobie I've worn a dress Oh yeah You know It's who I am So just If you're gonna live with it Might as well learn to like it If I just decide I'm like I've always been just freaky I've been hurt All right Well I hope everybody enjoyed that Little interstitial By Dan Hudson Oh yeah They love it Everybody loves it Well no It's supposed to be that way I don't know what to tell you Anyway All right We're ready We're gonna flip it over to Jim Scott
He's gonna play a little bit of his own music called Onto the Lamb Through his shed blood We've been reconciled Through the cross Giving thanks we lift our worship high You are worthy we cry You and me The curse by Hanging on the tree And holy is his name Unto the Lamb Be all glory and power Be all wisdom and strength BAM Be all glory and power To the Lamb Be all wisdom and strength Through his shed blood We've been reconciled With God King Through the cross Giving thanks we lift our worship high You are worthy we cry out Agony For you and me We broke the curse by Hanging on the tree Holy is his name To the Lamb Be all glory and power Be all wisdom and strength To the Lamb Be all glory and power To the Lamb Can separate us From the love of God That's in Christ Jesus Thanks we are more than conquerors Be all glory and power Be all glory be all wisdom and strength And is to come Blessed is the Holy One Awesome Awesome Jim Awesome Jim Awesome I like the multiple Jims That are going on in that deal I agree
It sounds like there's a fire That's kind of cool Of Jims Is that the whole Bose thing Or does that you have something connected to the Bose thing I have a couple things going on there It's the Bose deal And TC Helicon vocal harmony machine Voice live So it takes your voice And it reproduces it In perfect pitch harmony And you can kind of fish around And build harmonies around it If you want to spend the time It can sound like Queen live But it takes a lot of application And a lot of time I've been told I sound like Queen live You do You look like Queen live And I usually do your background vocals So Yeah that's true Together Together we can be Queen live Yeah I'm working on it Don't roast me I'll do what I want There we go When you said you look like Queen live No one can verify We were looking at the wall Yeah that's true Man Looks more like a wall Does that mean you look like all four of them? Maybe the better qualities of each of them Are there four? How many people were in Queen? What do you got? Do you know how many people are in the band Queen? Brian I think Five Five Jim says five Five Were they all union? I'm sure they are Paul Rogers has replaced the other guy
See that blows me away I had no idea that there was like union musicians Really? There's a union for everything See I'm so I'll try to get my legs broken today See there's probably a union chocolate milk I hate unions I hate them I'm in the kazoo makers union I hate everything about unions There's nothing I like about unions I'm going to have my legs broken by the time I get out of my car That's why I hate unions That shirt was probably made by a union Probably not Yeah right A union of Moroccan thread bearers Oh by the way Jim I'm going to have to apologize I referred to you on the Facebook as the lone Moroccan The lone Moroccan Yeah I otherwise didn't have a nickname for you And that's what I went with There was like four gyms there How could he be the lone Moroccan? Brother I've been called worse Okay I'm glad you're alright with it No I'm okay with it Is this a visual presentation that Jim's done going to be available on the web? Oh yeah Yeah we'll have Actually after the show Our performances His performances tonight will be posted on YouTube Also will be on the Life in the Path channel Those will be on the performances page of our website And then whatever Jim wants to do with it I'll make them available to him And he can do whatever he wants to do with it Jim do you own the website notmikefuss.com? I'm not mikefuss.com yeah Oh solid Okay so I'll post it on Jim's website I'm not mikefuss.com This is going to work out great By the way my website is stringsoflifemusic.com My email is jcscott at q.com At q? Just the letter q.com
I think that's the quest given Oh yeah That's correct So there If you're stalking Jim you know he has quest Do with that what you will I hate to I mean I'm really ignorant Okay so Don't record that Sorry That's down Dan Hudson Highlight reel number three Stunted I'm stuck on the union thing though So What do musicians do If they're like I mean Do like All the I've never heard of like All the bands going on strike Or something Or I mean I'm really I'm speaking eagerly What if your turn I'm an idiot Then what happens I'm a really smart guy You're really in some trouble Dan With these clips Go ahead They always put bloopers together For me anyway Sure I mean I mean you've been out of it for so long That it's probably changed Maybe I'm sure it has All of the road crews The stagehands Sound engineers Lighting engineers They all have union scales That they have to be paid They're paid per diem
They're paid travel There's a lot of different things involved in it So I mean So I don't even know I can't even come up with an intelligent question So like If I have a civic center I suppose because of that They're pretty much just all union I suppose But then they can't bring in someone Who's not union If The Hoos brothers Want to show up and play They'd be like Well show us your union card Is that how it works? They're kind of scams aren't they? Union Performers There's gray areas And like I said I haven't been in the union for 17 years Sure So I don't know exactly how they run it now There are gray areas Like if I have a trained bear in my act or something? A what? You don't? A bear? Oh a bear A trained bear I don't know what I heard What did you think I said? I have no idea I was just like Okay anyway So I can have the bear No card I'm with you Yeah I don't understand where you guys are going with this But Well I just don't know I just don't I I always say bad things about unions But I also understand if we didn't have them We'd be in trouble too
You know it's a balance thing Sure And I'm not talking about you Or your experience in union It just kind of piqued my interest It's like wow I never knew musicians were in union Right Well as far as I know And I haven't researched it I don't know if contemporary Christian artists are unionized now I imagine around the Nashville area some of them are I'll bet I'll bet Is there areas of the country that are more heavily music union? Oh you bet Yeah You bet The larger venues You know If you was going to play the Inglewood Forum Or Irvine Meadows or something like that You would have to pay a lot of money if you didn't have a union card Oh wait a minute So if you're not a union then you have to pay money? Well Whoever's going to produce that show I mean there's people that have to promote and produce that show And there's a financial entity that has to put forth the bonds And all the right liability insurance And you know concessions insurance There's a lot of things that's involved in it What a hassle I guess that's why they have music business degrees No wonder Willie Nelson's on the road again You know what I'm saying? You can't do anything these days without being harassed My dad once told me that he met Willie Nelson at a bank somewhere Do you remember that? Remember that story? Yeah Story I don't remember This is a Dan story I don't remember anything else about it except for the fact that he ran Thanks for bringing that up He ran into Willie Nelson Who did Pence say he ran into at an airport? Jack Black Yeah I don't know that doesn't sound real either
Pence claimed to have met Jack Black at an airport on a He was on some kind of What do they do in high school? What's one of the groups in high school? No like What's one of the groups that you part of in high school? The Key Club Like some choir stuff? Yeah something like that One of the ambiguous groups that you can't really tie down Oh Deca Oh Pence says Deca Yeah okay so Deca What are they about? Is that like business stuff? I don't know Any idea? You seem king of the acronyms Jim What do you got? Any idea what Deca's about? I have nothing He's got nothing Okay Jim's out I thought that was like a junior business thing Something Diploma is It doesn't matter It doesn't really matter The educated Distributed Distributed clubs of America? What does that mean? I don't know The mechanics That sounds like in a bigger job you can get in an office building somewhere I was part of this distributive club They said that's exactly what we're looking for The qualifications of working in a food pantry I don't know I don't know what it is Wow Oh no Pence is no He has no idea Okay Anyway Glad we brought that up We got that straightened out Absolutely So Jim you lead worship
Is that correct? Or you're in the worship band? At times I do Okay What I'm doing now is more of a freelance I try to just meet needs And I've worked with different worship groups And led worship Recorded contemporary Christian albums with groups And on my own But my heart is to share the love of Christ With a lost world I really enjoy And it's an honor to me to serve the body But if I get an opportunity to go out And to play in a venue Where an unsaved crowd is going to be on hand I cherish that Because I want to fulfill the Great Commission And I'm not real articulate That's why I brought Pastor Steve He can articulate That's why we have Dan I'm completely in the same boat as you He can articulate the gospel It can work out well for you In just an awesome way Yeah And me I can do it through pen and paper And put chords to it And sing it And I feel within my element that way But once I go start trying to break off And debate somebody And break down barriers And break down walls To soften them up To understand their need for salvation Through the blood of Jesus Christ That's a gray area for me It takes me out of my comfort zone And I don't know if that's a good thing Or a bad thing Do you find that you're finding Those opportunities to get in front of crowds Where you feel like you can make That type of impact? Well, God's opening doors I'm here tonight
I was at the Midwest Spirit Music Festival And none of that stuff None of this Did I go out in platoon To try to get this It's just God's opening doors I want to be faithful I don't want it to be about me I don't want it to be flesh That's why I say God, if you open the door And you want me to go I will go But I don't want to open the doors Because I have this uncanny ability To mess stuff up So I just want to be obedient To the call And to share the love of Christ Through music with others Man, as much as you have in common with Scott I think I have a lot of common, Jim About that messed stuff up I feel kind of alone right now Yes We're going to break off into factions It's hard to find brethren in a shirt like that I'm just saying Maybe Charlie Brown Unless you can find a little kid with a stinky blanket Or a girl that gives out psychiatric advice She'd make me pay So What? Nothing I was just It reminds me I saw I was watching the Cartoon Network today And they had They had a cartoon of like This unemployment thing's working well for you It was Labor Day Everybody else was Oh, that's true Forgot So anyway So did you ever watch the You ever watch the Ninja Turtles
The cartoon of the Ninja Turtles Back in the day Okay, so Like they had a cartoon Where like the 1987 Ninja Turtles Met the 2010 Ninja Turtles And the 2010 Ninja Turtles Were making fun of the 88 Turtles Left and right Because they weren't mean And they were always joking around Yeah The 80s kicked butt though Didn't they? Well the new ones were like They were permanently drawn with a mean face And super ripped You know And their evil guy was worse than the other I was really disappointed Like I thought those guys were really bad dudes Back in the day And now they've redrawn them To be even more fierce Yeah And not fun at all They didn't look very fierce They were making fun of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle van They're like Is that the best van you have? It feels like a toy I was like Shut up Future Turtle man That's a cool van I had that exact van Back in the day You know There's no reason for this I said back in the day Back in the day You've gotten old A few times Yeah Vince says I say it He's got it on account He's got one of his umpire clickers It's like back in the day He says I say it twice a show
Twice a show I say back in the day Yeah Yeah I bet I'll bet Yeah And I never do Back in the day Because I'm young Jim can you Maybe Maybe share with us A little bit On On how you go about The songwriting process Like Is it something where you You find yourself Are inspired to write something Or You kind of sit down And focus on saying I want to write something Maybe God will provide Something to me Like how does that How does that usually go for you Or Is there a usual It's always a fight Writing worship Worshipful music And arranging worshipful music Because There is an adversary That don't want it out there Sure And And you Not only have that But you have the flesh too And So So there's a process to it Of course Sound theology Is vitally important And To try to articulate
The heart of God In a way that Is different It's fresh And And it comes across To where People Can enjoy it It It's inclusive It's not hindrance It It's not Obtrusive To where They're saying Okay I'm hearing the words But I just wish They'd quit playing You know And And that may happen with me I don't I don't know But I just feel That That the heart of it Is to Sing a new song Under the Lord That is truthful It's from the heart That can give him glory And honor him In a way that That people can say You know what I can relate to that And I want that In my life I want to know God In a more deep More passionate way And I don't want it To be about me Often times I look at myself
And I say How many times Have I sat In church And been daydreaming About all kinds Of stuff When you're worshipping It's really Worth ship You are offering up Worth ship To the only one In all of history That's split time The only one Of all of history That offers up salvation Through a savior That doesn't come From no other religion It's all about works It's all about karma It's all about this That The dancing Bear routine On a ball Trying to balance Yourself all the time And so When you experience grace And you can relax And you can say I'm favored by God I'm loved by God I don't have to fight anymore I'm free I really am free That is such a sensation And just an awesome feeling That you have the ability To articulate things That you never ever could Fighting in the realms Of legalism and religion Well I'm kind of have to I'm going to have to Call a doubt On your gray area thing
Jim That was pretty good I know the Lord And I'm convinced again I'm reconvinced Praise God I appreciate your Desire to be Theologically correct Because I mean there's not A whole lot out there That you just go Really? You know But sometimes A song comes along You think It really has a nice beat I really like the song But man It's just not really Speaking really with truth Sure And that's kind of sad And a lot of I don't know A lot of our population Even within the church Hasn't read the Bible enough To even have a clue They just go with Whatever is popular And whatever is on TV Or whatever is on the radio You know whatever And so it's cool to hear A musician say That that's important To me You know I'm not just going with The feel of the moment But you try to put together Because there is feeling And emotion In music But to have truth Mixed in it That's cool
Well that's true That's exciting Because you watch A lot of worship music And once again Not that it's a bad thing But people will tend To start to fall back On saying hallelujah A lot Or you know And it gets to be Repetitive to the point Where you don't Really mean your hallelujah After like the tenth time This will fit in here Yeah Let's throw a couple Hallelujahs in there You know That'll round out the tune You know So I think You're right To find someone That really wants to You know Take yourself out of it And portray You know I mean You know What the Lord Wants you to do You know And frankly As long as you're getting You know From the Lord What he wants out You know Whatever he does With it after that Is whatever he does With it You know So that's That's the cool part And actually
You know That's probably There's probably Some real danger In shallow Or you know Incorrect Or inconsistent Teaching in Worship music Specifically Because there's A beat behind it You can be Seduced if you will By music That you would Otherwise enjoy And it's pretty easy To you know Be snuck upon Whatever is Shallow That you're offering Up to God Or whether Is biblically Inconsistent So I would Actually say To a certain extent It's almost More dangerous To put that out There from a music Standpoint Than it is Just from someone Talking Because at least If someone walks Up to you And starts preaching You know What you're getting Into You know Where they're Coming from You know
You start to Filter it that way But music Is I think A different type Of animal And I think You can run Into some real Problems If you're not Theologically consistent I think people Don't filter music I mean You have to remember In Christian music At the very foundation Of it all You are representing God You are taking Words Through music Where they could Never go by themselves Right But Is your representation An honest representation Of who the person Of Jesus Christ is Are you putting Together Beats And notes And throwing Stuff together That may sound Okay But Is it honoring The one That we are Supposed to honor And worshiping The one we're Supposed to worship Pastor Steve Always says
That the most Dangerous lies Are 90% truth And I believe That to be so I think That We We have A higher Calling To To root Ourself In the truth And share That with others So Sound theological Choruses And words And to articulate That And make it To where It's inclusive And it's not A hindrance Is always A positive thing And to make A relevant You know A lot of The old hymns I mean I just haven't Sung hymns You know Like for A hundred years Everyone's Well One of them Comes back They actually A lot of Were like Pretty deep
Theological Statements You know But I don't Sometimes Jared our Worship pastor Will throw One out You know Of course It sounds More modern And stuff Now But I'll Ask him Afterwards What does That word Even mean I don't Even know You know What's a Bulwark Or whatever I mean I don't I can't You know But It spoke To that Generation It does To ours Too I mean Plenty Of them Still sing It But I'm just Affirming Your thing It's It's important To have
Truth With Relevance To this Culture Because They Hear the Words Whether The filter Is on Or not Is Different Well I Think it's The same Thinking That tries To make The bible Outdated You know Like it's The same Thinking That tries To shovel Hymns Aside And act Like they You know They don't Speak To people Anymore You know It's The same God You know What I'm Saying It's The same Jesus Did it You know
Whether He did It 2,000 Years ago Or He did 10,000 It's The same Thing You know And so You know Some of Those hymns Are lame You know I don't Want to tell You Some of Of Just boring You know Most of The time Were like Bar tunes That they Christian Doctrine To It's The same Thing We're Doing With Contemporary Music Today Right But I Think You can Find A lot Of Cool
Stuff In Hymns You know Especially You know We tend To have A more Modern Service For A modern Worship Service But Every once He'll throw An old School hymn In there And man It'll be The king Of the Worship It'll do Way more Than Every song You've heard On the Radio station The last Two weeks For some Ways That one Will hit You hard Well You know And it's Sometimes We need Reminded The perspective Of the Things that We consider
To be Old I mean Even Your Ancient Hymns Are like Mid 1850s Jesus was Here 2000 Years Ago You know And we're Talking about Stuff that Was 160 Years ago I mean It's not like They were cranking It out On a stone Tablet Right It's the same Perspective that The king James version Has got to be The solid one Because it's So old Well Relatively speaking It's pretty New You know So I mean We think of Something as Old Revered Text As if Jesus Could have
Pended himself 160 years ago And it's not It's not true How great I am He says You'll have to Change that Now is that Is that all Caps I am How are we Doing this Fellas How are we How are we Writing this I like The thought That Jesus Checks with An editor Before writing Where's all That gold leaf Paper I'm Supposed to Use The really Thin stuff I've got A lot to Say here Gold on One side How big Can this Book be Really Who's doing The annotations You ever You ever Think that You ever Think he Wanted the Bible Heavy Enough
That you Could Actually Throw it At somebody If need Be Like if They're Just not Getting it You're Going over And over Again The Lord That's it Wham They work out Well for Moses Though I don't know So I think We're going to Ask it with An unlikely But solid Thought So Jim Are there Any groups Or artists That influence You particularly In your Music Well I'm Really moved By Fernando Ortega I think he Captures the Essence of A lot of The old Hymns Powerfully And just The way that
He is able To mix His music With his Voice Is really Moving There's so Many great Musicians In the Contemporary Movement Now And And it's Come so Far You know The days Of The worldly Band Saying that Christian bands Don't have No talent That just Don't hold Water anymore There's too Many good Ones out There Daniel What How do you Feel about That I agree I half Expected him To go That's me In case You didn't Catch it That's me Making fun Of that
Shirt For the Third Time Appreciate That I really Enjoyed it So how Was your Experience at The Spirit Midwest Music Festival How did That go For you It was Very cool I seen Some people That I hadn't Seen in a Long time That saw it On Facebook And on my Website And they Come out And I got To see David's band Like I said I'm friends With a lot Of the guys In David Bush's band And they're All great Musicians They're great Guys I love Those guys And they'd be A good bunch To have on

They hate the rest of the world So I mean I sit back and watch the fights Like everybody else You know what I'm talking about So you're pretty good at division In the church How is it that you pull this off One of the easiest ways To make somebody Just think that they're right That they're completely And totally right Another big thing Bible versions Everyone knows Myself included King James is the only way to go It's what I have in my personal library I don't read it I need to set the record straight on that I don't read it But you wouldn't see me You're reading one of those Hippie versions of the bible With street language Hip hop Jesus stuff You give me a scenario I can tell you how I can make somebody Fight about it How about politics Politics Easy Christians are all republicans Craig We've known that We've known that from day one How about music Music The music's too loud Do I have five people singing Can we really play secular music In the church Lord I lift your name on high Come on This is kids play here How about alcohol Okay No Christians drink
Except that Uh oh Jesus turned water into wine Which I was there Most people think it was red It was white sin It was uh I mean I didn't drink it But it was I was there Saw it How about entertainment Entertainment Did you see what I did to Disney I'm the king I rest my case Craig I can't let the church Be united Uh I mean You've heard the saying A kingdom divided against itself Can't stand Or whatever Yeah it's in the bible It's what It's in the bible Wow That's embarrassing Can we I'm sorry Satan have you ever been To a church board meeting Absolutely I go Every Tuesday If you've never seen a deacon Just straight up Cuss in the middle of church At another deacon It's It's a sight to behold So what does it do to you When believers do come together Well I don't know if you've ever been Kicked out of a club When the club's just going off And there's a great DJ And drinks are half price
But It's the same feeling You know As long as I can keep Denominations talking about What makes them them And what they believe And what those other people believe You know They're not talking about The J The J guy Jesus Okay I'm going to warn you once If you say that again I'm going to leave Because I You know So when I say Jesus You can't take it You know Turn my camera Hey where are you going That's it Hey Hey Satan You forgot your cookie Eat it Craig Alright let's sing this one One time And Thanks for hanging out Really appreciate you guys Watching those So we can go about our business I don't mean to tell you But that was I picked my nose a little bit While we were on break Mike I did not Anything you want to share Dope Okay good Got some water Good Is there water out there There's water It's not chilled
I should have done it It's room temperature It's not full Actually Now that you say that I did hear Steve go Free water And he had like eight glasses I'll get you some If you want some Okay no that's okay That's okay Steve's just trying to Implicate you So he can say Ben and I had a lot of water But it turns out Steve just had eight glasses On his own Good stuff Not as good as chocolate milk But you know Yeah I don't know You gotta take what you can get You know They don't have chocolate milk Around here You gotta have something Water works Yeah Can I have one of those The mentholated drugs Yeah really Yeah thank you How many do you have over there Not enough Sorry Do you need one No I I can share Not at a moment Anybody Mentholated It's just a Whole's cup drop thing Okay Is that going around Are you sick Dan I got allergies or something
I don't know what I've got Okay It's starting to annoy me I don't think I have You know what I realized today I've never had indigestion Never Never I think you have Never You've mistaken it for something I've 28 years of my life have passed No indigestion You've had it No I haven't I have not I mean you'll have a rough future It's going to get worse I don't get it much It stores up and comes at you Like a fierce beast Indigestion is a mean mistress How dare you not use me for years Actually I ate I ate some kind of Mysterious Mexicali soup That the woman made And This was the second round of it I wasn't here for the first round So I got round two Is she still on Oh boy Anyway Love you It's delicious But I ate I ate the whole thing And all of a sudden Like as soon as I put the spoon down After having polished off the bowl And some broccoli With a little tone issue series on it I got a I got stricken Stricken in the abdomen With some Some fierce pain
That I could not describe I was out for ten minutes I couldn't figure out the deal That's indigestion No no A woman says indigestion Is in the throat Not digesting It takes many forms It was dead Sarah woke up a few weeks ago And in the middle of the night She thought she was having a heart attack Really? She woke me up And We did a bunch of searching And You know Instead of like calling an ambulance She's like Let me get on Google And see what you You know What you got going here Possible signs of heart attack Yeah And of course You know Symptoms You can have anything And you can You know Yeah that WebMD Is just about useless Yeah it's like I've got it I have a runny nose Sorry you have toe cancer Exactly Oh no Toe cancer They're going to have to take it She did go to the doctor The next day Because You know Danielle has a friend Who's a nurse In a cardiac
You know We did some A little bit of investigating They're like Well Sounds more like indigestion But With women That's the whole thing It's the symptoms We're all different Than with guys What do you mean What's that fella do? I don't know I don't really get it He's not Dr. Dan He doesn't do He gets whatever Whatever Ben had Oh It was It was awful I was laid out on the couch I felt like I felt like before He's just a painful Weeniest dude ever Like I'm sitting on the thing Going I'm possibly dying I got killed By Mexicali soup At the hand of my own wife And then I thought Whatever And then you saw The rat poison box Empty In the garbage can And then But I mean Really I could see that And I think I'm coming home to you Jesus Yeah Thanks for the lovely wife Who sent me home early This was not gonna
This was not gonna make the Bible And then Ben was stricken down My Mexicali soup My will be done That Mexicali soup Is pretty good though It's not as sexy As a tent steak Three or four No A stoning in the Lord's name That made the Bible Mexicali soup Probably not Sorry Who was the gal That did the tent steak Hey This room is Hold on a second It's very quiet 40% pastors 40% pastors Nobody knows the steak Is he making that Wait a minute Is he making that up Steve You're just trying to be Courteous about it No I'm not making it up It's the Daughter of I forget the Jehovah's Fat Who's with me Drove a tent steak through He's looking it up there I had Stephen ready For my stoning example Anybody else I'm just searching Tent That's too many tents Stephen works I can't remember I can't remember who it was I can't remember who she even killed It was some dude It wasn't Abs
No That is Pathway Church Absalom got caught Actually Absalom got his hair caught in the deal Yeah yeah My daughter loves that story Yeah and other issues yeah It's Goldilocks I love it Hey So part of the Part of the thing that came up Via the video that was over the Over the Was And I know Some of you guys in the room Couldn't see it But it was a guy like Fake interviewing Satan And he was talking about The denominations of the church So one of the questions from the chat was Did the devil instigate Denominations in the church How do we feel about that Steve 40% pastors go And go Well you know I don't know if he instigated Them Certainly he Tries to use Them to bring the vision To the body of Christ But Sometimes I think people Well meaning On different sides of issues Have formed in different Camps so to speak And So he certainly Used them I mean I don't know if I go so far As to say he instigated them But he certainly I think it boils down to pride It's usually
You look back at history It's usually like two dudes That are mad at each other And they're trying to Eat each other And he gets the pride And I got more followers than you And then all of a sudden You know Well that's the thing That's simplistic Is if your group of people Decide that We're going to do communion Every Sunday Or You know We're going to Sprinkle water Or whatever You know I don't know Whatever you decide Is the deal You know And then You know You take You take You know A firm You know The word of God Is it And then you add stuff to it And then try to sell it As a package deal Then I think you start Running into issues If someone doesn't Accept your package You know You're kind of like The Mormons When they come to the house And they say I have the book of Mormon If you read the Bible We also believe in the book Of the Bible
And we need these two things You know what I'm saying Like you're trying to sell me A package deal When I only want Half your package You know And so Like the Donald Denomination thing For me Kind of comes that way Like you You take Really what I need And then You add some stuff to it Which is not Against the Bible But you're trying to sell it Like it's part of it And those You know That's That's what Yeah That's where people Start battling You know Yeah No that's true I think most of the And I think that's why Some of those denominations Have been able to continue Because things that are Blatantly non-biblical I mean there are some That exist In Other They call it other things They don't call it non-biblical They call it Things that make it sound like Well it just changed a little bit But like A lot of the divisions Are additions Where
Well the Bible doesn't say Anything about it It's not doing this here So And so I think that's why Some of that stuff Has been able to continue And you know Although it All roads may still lead To the same path On some of those things I think to a certain extent The detriment is that It complicates I find my faith In Jesus Christ To be very simple Because my salvation Is extremely simple He's given me one way To get there And I've got it You know And I think the more Complication The more things are complicated The more they are human And the more that we are human The more we are fallible And so I think Some of those That's where the denomination stuff Comes into a problem Is God has laid out His church And it is a church body And it has nothing to do With buildings It has nothing to do With denominations It has nothing to do With separations Where we are united Under the same fierce grace That we have trouble Understanding the depths of And so I think That's where That's I think
Where we run into The issues with those Denominations Is it just makes Your life here harder Right It may actually Lead to the same place In the end Depending on what The difference is But like It just complicates Your life And I think That's where The struggle comes into It could have taken A road that's Fairly straight to God And put some curves in it You know Some unnecessary curves You know That maybe If you'd have just Maybe not worried So much about The extra stuff And maybe just Focused on Where you're going You know Maybe it wouldn't Have been that big Of a deal So There's a neat Saying That I like That says You know In essentials You know There's essentials Of the doctrine You know Of the faith And the non-essentials It says
You know In essentials Of course Unity In non-essentials Charity And in all things Love Love Yeah You know Because Jesus He said Isn't that what He said How the world Would know That we're his disciples Is the love We have for one another Yeah And it seems to me That You know Denominations In and of themselves You know You look at a lot of them By the way The way they started It was in revival You know I mean Wesley And you know You see These radical movements Of God And then it becomes More Perhaps like you guys Are saying Man-centered And I think If we could just Get it back To the cross You know That's what it's about You were talking
About worship earlier And you know Worship leaders And worship music And as Jim was singing You know I was just I was thinking about How much of his song Is scripture And you want to have A good theologically Correct song It's hard to go wrong When it's the bible Yeah You know what I mean And that's really What I think All Christian churches Regardless of how They maybe label themselves If we just get back To the word of God And the love of Christ Yes Because that's That's like you said Man the love And the grace of Christ How we're saved You know And how we stand Today You know We still have this grace In which we stand It's not like we outgrow it Right You know In fact we grow More and more Realizing how much We need it And so That's sort of You know My thought is Like just the love You know
That You know In There's areas that Well meaning believers Are going to differ But let's not let that Become something That drives a wedge Because that's one thing That Satan loves to use Is if he can see The body of Christ Fighting Or Criticizing each other Or you know Driving stakes Into our own You know Side or whatever Then Yeah Then He uses that for sure And it goes back to pride Pride You know It started in pride Pride has a lot to do And then the followers Have pride Where our church Is better than your church And well yeah You do that Well we do this You know It's like really I mean Yeah As long as we're both Following Jesus Isn't that You know Yeah Well But I guess that brings up An interesting question Because then
You know If That sounds simple But if You know The denominations disagree On how somebody Becomes a Christian Or stays a Christian You know What's a person That is That's in That position Who's seeking But is finding At atmospheres Where you know From what we describe As being the simplest thing Right Is not even simple So where's How do you judge that Where's your reference Well we We can't judge that I mean That's That's You don't know Their heart You can see The externals And you can certainly Offer up An opinion That's just that But there's a lot Of room for error there But But I can say That the foundational Truths like Steve Was talking about How a person Gets saved I mean There is no Wiggle room there
He is the way The truth And the life No one comes To the father But by him Now when you get Into the gray areas Of once saved Always saved Do you have to Do communion regularly Do you have to Be baptized Do you have to Speak in tongues Do you have to You know Read the old testament Continually And believe the prophecies And search that out There's There's a lot of things That people Want to You know Agitate back and forth Over But I think That if you have Those foundational truths That he It was manifest In the flesh Dwelt among us Went to the cross Bore our sins On the third day Rose again Anyone who confesses With their mouth And believes in their heart That Jesus Christ Is Lord Shall be saved Now If we're going to Lose our salvation That would mean
That we have The ability To keep it And we don't It was a free gift Of grace Not by works Lest any man Should boast And those are things That once you start Dancing around That area It gets dangerous It really does Well now Man we talked about This here recently And there was a There was a scripture That fit it Now I have no idea What it is But it's about People squabbling Over small garbage And man I wish I had heard of the scripture That would have been Right on Sounds like a Timothy thing Yeah It very much was But the perfect example Would be in Acts When Paul started To talk to the Gentiles And the Jews Got all fired up They're like Well these dudes Ain't circumcised And they're not this And they put the council Together And one of them They come back And he's like You guys are fine With your circumcision
You're fine with Your Old Testament stuff But let's get them To stop lusting After the flesh Let's get them To start living In a holy way Seeking Jesus How it's done So right there You saw two different styles You saw the Jews Who had a way deeper History With God And were keeping Their circumcision But that doesn't Disqualify the Gentiles Which would be The non-Jews From worshipping And accepting Christ As their Savior Just because they Didn't have the circumcision And so that's Almost a perfect point When it comes to Almost a direct Bible reference On how denomination Is going to work You know As long as you're not Don't use it As a way to block Somebody Don't impose On everyone else Right These two people Can be just fine In the way that they As long as they're Both looking towards Jesus for the same thing Get a circumcision Don't get a circumcision Whatever
What's the big deal And so I don't know I think that's probably Almost a perfect example When you're looking At different denominations And how you're going To look at it The Lord said it out already Here's how it went Here's how I wanted it It's going to happen He's not like He's not going to say You guys aren't going To have differences here But here's how You're going to resolve them All eyes on me Well And I think Actually that's When I was getting To the question On the reference I think you have God's word You have a biblical reference To verify those things So I mean The things We run into I think Considerable trouble When you start taking Another person's Or another group's Take God When God has given you A reference that is him So you know For the things That you struggle with And you think Well I can't decide Which way to go That's why you have The reference
You have the great equalizer You have prayer And you have The word of God That's been provided to you And you know I see those things And I'll see denominations And frankly I use those questions To validate You know One of the things That I really have Pulled away with In the last year That I feel like I've gotten stronger with Or the Lord has made me Stronger through Is my willingness To go to him With questions When my faith was weaker I would say I don't ask questions To God Because I'm afraid That I'm going to be Given an answer That's going to lessen What I currently believe In God And that's foolishness To the extent that I'm going to God For information I mean Am I going to ask him A question that he's Not going to be able To answer And answer sufficiently Like that's a fool's parade And I think Recognizing that And recognizing that No matter what I read No matter what I see No matter what I hear
The creator of the universe Has an answer For me You know All I need to do Is let it go And give it to him I mean That is a weight That has been off me And I've been really Feeling it this year And I really I'm excited about that Because you know I don't run from things I see an article I see an article That pops up on You know The CNN faith blog And you know A year ago Two years ago I might have looked at him And was like You know I just I don't want to see it I don't want to see it It might It might throw me off course You know Now I'm in there Put me in Put me in I want to deal with it I want to see it Because now I know You know If I have questions from that Who else am I going to go to But my father To answer those questions And that's I don't know That's really really helped me This past year Yeah
That's a good word Because you know God's not offended By our questions You know He's not Troubled by our questions In fact It's sort of foolish To try to hide them from him Because he already knows That they're there In the back of our mind You know And something that I like about Jim And I think one reason That we Click so well Not that that's a good word Click you know But Speaking of denominations No one thing That I love about Jim We were talking about this earlier Is You know Just the ability To be real You know I mean I think it's important For the church To be real And if We don't If we're afraid Of the hard questions Or the challenging issues Or whatever Then you know People don't see That man This is a real God That we serve You know He really does have Solutions For the things
That we face And the things That we feel like Man we cannot get through He can give us The strength To walk through it You know And he's real And so If I'm struggling With you know Some sin in my life Or I'm struggling With some question I don't understand About eternity You know Who completely understands Eternity anyways You know If I'm struggling With some theological question And I think that Somehow I'm going to Offend God You know Or I can't go ask You know A brother or sister In the body Or a pastor Or someone about that Then you know It causes people I think to sort of Back away But if we realize Man God is awesome And he loves us And he's not offended Don't be afraid Of those questions Because there's answers That's actually A pretty cool statement Is the thought That real church Equals real God You know
What I'm saying For people who don't You know And it makes the flip side true Phony church Equals phony God For people You know People who don't Have a current relationship With Christ And they walk in And they're like What is this What is this But that is People see one of two things They either see Someone who is Overly pious And of course Piety is great And it's good To be holy And we're shooting for that But they see that In someone's life And they either You know Someone I'm speaking to someone Maybe really legalistic Or whatever And they either see I can never be like that So why try Or They know That person And they know They're not really like that You know And they realize They're not real And so I'm not going to go there You know what I mean It's like Well if we're just real Like man
Isn't that crazy though That people are Taken back When they find people Of genuine faith Yes And you think That's embarrassing That there's That must mean There's a lot of people Out there Who call them I don't even use The word Christian anymore Because it's just The word's been Watered down so much It's either you're A Christ follower Or you're not Yeah But people are shocked By genuine faith They're surprised You know That's probably The number one thing We get at our church You know You're so genuine We'll get it It's like How else do you do it I don't know how to Yeah that's a good question I mean who we are Is who we are I mean why Why try to pretend You know We love Jesus Anything that's not genuine Is a knock off It's a counterfeit Well yeah And why would you want to What's your motivation And a great tragedy What
Is in a lot of churches That do teach sound doctrine There's so many people That get in there And they're drinking the milk For years and years And years and years And you continually have to deal With squabbles Amongst the ranks And amongst the brethren Year after year After year After year But they're not spending the time Circing out the word of God And searching it out Praying it into their life Being real And being articulate Just say the truth man Where you have failures He knows it already anyway So you can grow up And then be mature And start healing Some of the hurts That are inside the churches In so many And it's a great tragedy We really need to start healing So the love of Christ Can cover us with his grace Instead of us squabbling all the time And most of it is immaturity And it probably boils down To a leadership issue Where shepherds Are not leading the sheep To green pastures And where the waters are still And so forth You know The whole Psalm 43 thing Is we've allowed churches To be lazy And when they're lazy They become inward And inviting And
I blame you as well Oh yeah Yes I mean really It takes A conscious effort To lead a church To be genuine Which is kind of You know Well you know You guys are familiar It has a great analogy Of a group Two young guys Went camping With one of their fathers And you know You get all psyched up And you're stoked For your camp out And they go out On the first day It rains You know It's a fishing trip But they're camping And so Man they're in In the trailer The whole first day Playing games Having a great time Enjoying Second day Rains again They're stuck in the trailer You know Make a long story short Third Fourth day You know By the end of the day They're ready to Just take each other's life You know At the end of the At the end of these five days They're supposed to be fishing And his point is
When fishermen don't fish They fight Yeah You know And we're to be Fulfilling the great commission Like Jim said earlier You know We're to be Really reaching out In the name of Christ Being as There's a song out Right now You know If we're his body Why aren't we Reaching out Why aren't we doing it You know And When we're not Like When he just said You know We tend to get inward focused You know And that's unfortunate Yeah Yeah It was It was actually interesting That this This came up Because I was I didn't have much planned For tonight To be honest with you Like I There are times When we've got a bunch of stuff To kind of talk about And there are times where You know I don't have anything That I came across this week And you know It's one of those things Where you know God's going to talk about
What he wants to talk about So I just I prayed for a little bit When I was When I was driving in And I put in I have the Bible on CD Just kind of hanging out in my car And I just kind of Randomly picked a disc And put it in And what was What kind of came up Was 1 Corinthians 6 And it occurred to me That I don't know That I've ever been witness To someone using The The Inner church Court system That's advocated In 1 Corinthians 6 You know When they talk about And here This starts in First Four Excuse me Three Do you not know That we will judge angels How much more The things of this life Therefore If you have disputes About such matters Appoint as judges Even men of little account In the church I say this to shame you Is it possible That there is nobody Among you Wise enough to judge A dispute between believers But instead One brother goes to law
Against another And this is front of unbelievers The very fact that you have Lawsuits among you Means you have been Completely defeated already Why not rather be wrong Why not rather be cheated Instead you yourselves Cheat and do wrong And you do this To your brothers And I thought I've never sued anybody So I you know I don't necessarily Fall into this category But I mean How many times Do we have issues Within the church That we take outside The church To rectify When Paul's pulling is solid You know Who are you putting Your trust in To resolve this matter You have a group Of people that are Following Christ Right here You're going to go Out inside Into the legal system To deal with something That you should deal And let's say The consequences are That it doesn't go Your way Why not rather be wrong Than allow division Why not rather be I mean what are you losing What is it What's really at stake here You know
What are you going to be What do people sue Other people for Boats You know 300 bucks 85 dollars Whatever it is It's goofy And so I thought Boats Even watching Judge Wapner Steve took the boat He didn't return the boat I'm very upset He spilled chocolate milk In the boat Yeah And he didn't share it Yeah So I gotta So I gotta go I gotta go out to the law And we gotta take care of it You know Why not lose the boat And then You know At some point Steve's gonna stop You know Taking pictures And posting them On social networking sites Of him enjoying the boat Eventually he'll stop doing it Maybe Another post from Not Ben Foose Did you enjoy Ben Foose's boat Which you know As you're reading that You just think You know He's saying Keep the main thing The main thing The gospel Now you know If we're focused on
Getting the gospel out Which gospel As you know Means good news And it is Sometimes I sit back And I just ponder Like the issues That so much Of the world Has with Christianity And it just baffles me Because You know Here is A truth And I mean We don't have time To get all the scientific And historical And evidence But I mean Bottom line is We're sinners You know We've fallen short Of the glory of God And here It's not like The trinity in heaven Voted and Jesus lost And so he Had to come down And die It's God himself Chose These people need To be forgiven Every single one of them And so I'm going to go down In the person of Christ And live the life That they can never live I'm going to pay the price For their sin So that By simply trusting in me now They can be forgiven And be reconciled And it's such good news
You know That we're stewards of That we have to To share With the world And you know I think that This whole issue Of lawsuits And this and that You know It's like man Paul would just say Keep the main thing The main thing The focus of The gospel of Christ There are authors Right now That put new spins On New Testament Scriptures That's been around For 2,000 years And they're selling A million books And it's sad That it has to be that Because these foundational Truths are there If we begin to seek them out And apply them Pray them into our lives And begin to ask God To reveal to us Where we fall short The error of our ways And grant us the grace To repent of it And that's not some Perfect type deal It's just simply You're talking to your daddy And he's your father Yeah He's your father He's not up there Wanting to hammer us He's wanting to grow us up He wants his child
To grow up And be an honorable vessel A noble vessel We're going to be Either a vessel Of nobility Or a vessel Of not nobility And so As we begin to grow In the grace Of the light Of the gospel And in the scriptures It's going to hone us And to be A person that He wills us to be And when we don't When we play church We go into church We dabble a little bit Here and there We pray when You know Our fire insurance Is due And we've got trials In our lives We wind up Staying children We don't grow up And thus You have churches That have all kinds Of problems And it's a sad It's a tragedy It truly is Yeah Yeah One of the things That comes to kind of Comes back to an Over overarching theme That we've had here Is we should be Moving in strength We should be Moving in focus
We should be Moving strongly You know There's just a lot Of weakness There's a lot Of timidity there That feels out of place Next to an all powerful Creator You know That's giving you A way to go You know And hanging out In the shadows And waiting for stuff To happen And we tend to be A reactive culture We tend to be A hesitant culture We tend to be A timid culture You know And none of those Things reflect The character of God And so You know It's just one of the Things that we keep Coming back to Is there's just Strength And actually It's weird That we're back On the When I was talking About the First Corinthians 6 The very beginning Of that Was another thing That I got from it Oh this is in Verse 12 And they're talking About sexual immorality
But this part Really got me It said I will not be Mastered by anything You know Think the things That we are That we are allowing To be mastered by Things that we're Allowed to be Conquered by And it's because We're not moving In strength Things are happening To us Here's our situation We like to Have things happen And then Pull ourselves Back up Like be relieved Of things Oh I conquered Something No Conquering would have Been you didn't Get there to begin With You didn't allow That to happen You understood The grace That your God has You understood The strength That you have Through God You know We got to get Sometimes we get Used to the feeling Because we like Overcoming things But sometimes We wait until
It's too late We wait to be Overcome So that we can Overcome When you know We just gotta We hit it at the door Say no I'm not Even gonna open it We're not We're not doing this You know You put me Put me anywhere I you know One of the things That I I stopped I stopped praying For To To run Although There's not There's a benefit To this But like I stopped praying Necessarily to run From temptation I started praying So that I can Recognize it And call it by name And attack it With strength Like that's I don't I don't wanna run Scared I wanna stand firm Cause it's It's not temptation If I'm never In the room with it And again There's a benefit From that I mean
There's a place To start from things But really What I want Is I wanna be able To see something Coming and say The strength That I have Through my God Says I don't care What you have I don't care What that is I don't You know I don't care What you're offering I'm fine Thanks Go about your business Because then again If members of the church body Can never be around Anything that's tempting You'll never get to someone Who is being tempted Successfully Amen So I don't know I like the strength business Yeah that's well said You know Talking about The difference between You know Resisting And walking towards You know As we set our heart And our mind On the Lord Jesus And we walk towards him We have that strength You know And like you said I think it's well said That We don't
Have to Run You know I mean there's times Like you know We see in scriptures Run from it But I mean But to realize That you know In the power of his might I can't stand And really I do stand We are overcomers In Christ already And so to enjoy that And so many people Live as if They are held captive But you know To use the scriptural term I mean They're controlled They are mastered They are You know I can't stop Doing whatever it is I can't stop drinking Or the sexual things That might be included In what Paul's talking about In first Corinthians I just can't stop It's like Well yeah you can Yeah you can You have a God That can stop it You know I mean You might not have The power within yourself I mean But the power Of God who lives in you Is the power Yeah seek first The kingdom of God And his righteousness
I mean Being right with him And all these things That we struggle with Yeah It's not that you can't It's that you don't want to yet Yes Yeah You know I'm holding on To whatever that is I do that I do that I do stuff like that Like guys People say Hey let the Lord help you And I say Oh no the Lord Could certainly do it I'm not sure if I want him to I just won't let him Yeah I think that's what It all boils down to So one of the questions From the chat is So what are the disciplines That we are to exercise So that we can grow That's heavy You know So if You know To be able to grow in Christ What can we be doing Talk about the spiritual disciplines Like fosters You know Fasting and praying And reading and meditating I think being in the word of God Is of the utmost importance Yeah You know I mean we need to be Reading the Bible But not just learning it For head knowledge
But obeying it Living it out You know Reading the scriptures Be in prayer I think it's important To be involved in fellowship With people who are real You know I mean I can't tell you How many times I get encouraged By my brothers and sisters In the Lord You know And I think another thing That where a lot of Christians Are intimidated But be sharing our faith Because there's There's an inherent Accountability If I'm sharing With someone that You know Man you know what You can be saved You can be forgiven Of your sin You can have power over this You really can Man I remember Before I gave my life to Christ I remember trying We talked about I tried My roommate and I We tried to quit drinking For a month Was our goal We made it like Seven or eight days I can't remember But man you know Now I'm pursuing Christ It's not even temptation You know And so But I think those disciplines Getting back to that
You know Be in the word of God Be in prayer Be in fellowship With other believers Be sharing our faith I think those things Are some important things It's like we want to be These trained soldiers Having never gone through boot camp Or never gone through training You know We just want to be the hero And it's like Well how do you know What you know Until you talk to people Who question you Yeah You know I don't want anybody Question me I might not Well of course you don't have an answer Yeah And that's Find it You'll find it The battle with witnessing And trying to share Christ with others I can remember There was a guy And he was a really intelligent guy He was a PhD A geologist And I felt the Lord Speaking to me Go talk to this guy And tell him about me And I walked up to him And I started talking to him And got on to the subject of creation And I'm like Well how do you think The world You know Was made And he says You don't really want to have this conversation
With me And he starts talking about Tectonic plates And you know Molecules And all this stuff I can't even spell the words He was saying Yeah And I walked away And I felt completely Defeated And I was like God I thought you wanted me To talk to this guy And it was about 20 minutes later It was just like The Holy Spirit Spoke to my heart And said Go back up there And ask him What he's going to do About his sin Amen And I resisted that I resisted that I didn't want to do it But then I It just felt A heavy burden on me So I walked up to him And I go John man You know I don't want to preach to you And I don't want to give you Christian ease Or anything But I just want to ask you One question What are you going to do About your sin And he said What sin And I go Well You got a guilty conscience
Don't you Don't you ever feel guilt Don't you ever feel like You know You're guilty about things And then he was faced With the point That he had sin And that If he was evolved He wouldn't fill This consciousness And so He began to Now Now I didn't have some Miraculous conversion there But the guy Begined to think about it So a seed was planted And I went on And I don't know Whatever happened from there But Sure You did what God Wanted you to do Yeah I hope so That's all we're Responsible for Sure Sow and seeds I mean Being sensitive to the spirit Yeah I mean listen to that That's tough That's a tough message Yeah What you can do about your sin Really What sin What you going to do About this buddy Oh dear You would I think We talked a little bit
About this last week Of how much easier it is Is to invite somebody To church Than it is to invite them For a personal relationship With Christ You know And so I tell you what Maybe that's the thing Maybe that's the thing This week Because frankly I was sitting out here With these fellas And some dude Was at the computer And we started talking About something And he goes You know Christ brother Out of nowhere You know And I thought That's awesome That's awesome Because he didn't He didn't like Take a deep breath He didn't look around To see who was here first You know Look at his notes He goes You know Christ I said Yeah And he goes Okay And then he just Went on with his story But it just came out Like he says it to everybody And I thought That's awesome That's awesome Why is this so hard Why is this so hard It's hard for me
It's extremely difficult for me I'm not trying to sell it Like I've got this mastered I don't You know But I mean Casual conversation Maybe that's the thing To do this week Just get a guy Just pick a guy Pick a gal You know Well if you're a guy Let's go with a guy first Don't talk to gals Until you're ready But pick somebody Have at it Let's do it this week Ben You in? I'm in Pick a guy Pick a guy? Tell me his name No don't tell me his name Okay What am I supposed to do? You're going to witness to him Okay You're going to say What's your deal anyway? What's up with you? In our LTGs I don't know I got it Transformation groups Which you guys evidently Are a part of What do I mean? Accountability groups We have in the church That's the first question We ask each other Is have you been a witness Testimony to Christ this week? Yeah And it's cool Because you know
We make it Kind of a high pressure situation I think sometimes In our own minds When it doesn't have to be You know It's really just Building a relationship With somebody And you know You find that common ground You know Maybe it's sports Maybe it's You know Wherever you're at You know You're there Both there for some reason And you know You establish Some sort of rapport And then You just pray Which is so important In personal evangelism You pray for God to open the door And then Look for opportunities To turn the conversation Spiritual You know Because most people They're always there Almost any conversation Do you love basketball? I love basketball Well God loves basketball And you Have you ever had an air ball? Have you You ever miss completely? All sinners do Nicodemus was a terrible point guard Go Speaking of missing the mark You're a sinner This is the night Who won the state championship
But it's God's story That's the beauty of it You know You're not selling Amway You know It's not some cheesy thing It's the most incredible story Ever told Well right You know they tell you As a salesman We just had three Amway dudes Ditch out from watching the show Thanks Dan We love Amway Your lifestyle is cheesy But we're not selling You can sell Amway The first thing they tell you As a salesman Is believe in what you're selling You know You believe in what you're trying to sell here Or you're just You know Putting on the Jesus face You know Just to say Check it off your list Well my preacher said I have to ask someone this week So Yeah you know The thing really You know If you're going to focus on something Is to plant a seed Or at least recognize the soil I think that's the deal for the week You know And you should be doing that all the time Because I think Are you trying to say You're not going to do it I said I'm going to do it differently Like I'm not just going to run into some guy With a stapler You know Open Say look
You've got a choice to make friend It's Jesus or Johnny Staple And here's a preview Wham Love Jesus I don't think that's going to fly Doesn't sin hurt I just Scaring people into Christ Doesn't seem like the way to go It is a way to get there Isn't that how I sold it Yeah But you know Abrace it fine Sandpaper and weight Like abrasiveness I didn't say that I'm going to smooth you out friend I said just talk to him There's something that we all Everybody has That I think it's good Even to sort of Have You know They say a one minute version A three minute version A five minute version But that's Everybody has our own testimony Of how we came to Christ You know Jim shared his earlier And it's a blessing to hear You know And he could share that in a minute He could share it in three minutes Or five minutes But But we all can share What Christ has done in our lives You know And the situation we were in before And maybe it was as a child I think that's the most radical testimony of all You know Someone that has all Walked with the Lord from You know
A young age But many of us were older You know And to be able to share Well you know what Yeah I used to be in a similar situation But let me tell you What God has done in my life Yeah Talk about an open door And no one can take away your testimony Yeah No one can take away your testimony Come on All I did was say Talk to a guy Man Yeah Mike Defend yourself You have 30 seconds Whatever I'm telling you All I did was say Go talk to somebody about Christ And Ben makes it sound like You're putting on bull horns And running into the man And saying That's how I took it The Lord of the Red Cape That's all you're getting I don't know Dan How did you take it Awful Yeah it was terrible Yeah I felt the same way That's all Alright well I tell you what Jim and Steve Are going to take off Thanks so much for being here guys Really appreciate it We had a great time We'll see you later We're going to talk about Them shirts after you're out Absolutely I like them
We're almost tied up It's 11.49 Did you see those shirts Yeah Boy oh boy Man Never mind they're still here What if they're on sale I'd like to get a couple No doubt They don't sell them To the likes of you Daniel Aw Penny's had a great sale today I went there You didn't go to the Yeah I did I went to the mall Really I was going to get myself A new pair of jeans I was there Did you What mall did you go to Valley West The wife of Hibber McKenite Most blessed of tent dwelling women Why'd I introduce someone I love it Out of all the tent women Man she's it You're the absolute best She's it He asked for water She gave him milk In a bowl Fit for nobles She brought him Curdled milk Her hand reached for the tent peg Her right hand for the workman's hammer She struck Sisera She crushed his head She shattered and pierced his temple At her feet He sank He fell There he lay At her feet
He sank He fell This is almost like a poetry Where he sank There he fell Dead I can't get on with the Judge is fine I know I'm kind of like I should have read this Before I tried to read it I'm like That's kind of weird He doesn't have a good Most blessed of women Be jail Yeah boy It started out Real hefty Like The most blessed woman To all the tent makers And then she killed somebody With a tent stake With a hammer in her hand I don't know That'd be a way to go I don't know if I'm going to go that way No that sounds terrible I don't know what they can do with that I believe if you go to the first part of the story She had given him warm milk Because warm milk makes you go to sleep Oh He was on his run for his life And so he came in there to hide And he goes Well here have some milk And he goes Oh this is Warm milk is terrible I mean What do kids drink warm milk You know That's how it comes fresh out The natural fountain Cows and stuff do it I don't know At what point
People started switching To like Harvesting milk And chilling it But warm milk Just disgusts me It's not It's foul If I can't sleep I'll have it I won't be asleep Seriously Quick Yeah What is it about warm milk That does that Some chemical change I've never even considered Having warm milk Yeah That's Yeah I don't do it for joy Or anything Although that's how you make pudding You make pudding By heating up that milk That's true So there's some virtue in it You still deal with the old Stove top way Yeah You don't do instant I don't know We don't have pudding At my place Oh I don't instant either I cook it Really Save macaroni and cheese People seem to do In a microwave and jazz Nah Stove top We usually do like Real live noodles And then I mean noodles And just
Real live We use the good noodles But then we just like Cheddar cheese or something We don't use like The fake stuff Yeah I only use the fake cheese You only use the powdered cheese And the cheddar cheese Disgusts me I don't want it Fair enough Excuse me Although you have to get that You have to get that Box mac and cheese I mean right when it's done Yeah You can't let it sit For more than 30 seconds Because it'll start Clumping together Yeah it's not good Start its own colonies I haven't even tried that For years I just don't know I'll bring it in next time Yeah no thanks We really should have Some more food in here Are we doing our men week Next week No Did you talk to that guy Which one You bringing in a man Actually I'm pretty excited Next week Syndrome of Fire Is going to be here Yeah And we We thought we were Going to miss them Because they were going to They're hit to have An East Coast tour Coming up

It comes to our church Yeah I'm pretty much Often they'll check with them But I seem to remember That was the case Huh Oh syndrome Sorry It's syndrome of fire What did you say? I might have said symptom Yeah sorry Sorry Vance Syndrome Syndrome of fire And it's syndromeoffire.com They got some music clips out there
Yeah there you go Vance Lambert? No Just Vance I wonder if Vance Lambert's on the union I don't know We'll have to ask him He's coming back in town soon isn't he? I don't know You can check out clips of Vance Lambert Who was on the show And some of the other musical performances We had on live from the path He's down by Nashville Dot org Yeah He would know Jim says it's heavy union Maybe that's what's holding him back Let's call him next week Not that he's being here I don't know if he's going to be up I'll check with him What are you an accusatory Yelling at him about being in union? I don't know Let's see what he's up to I want to see his card Hey Vance what's up By the way are you in the union? Are you in the union? We can't have you on our show What do you think of cheddar cheese And chocolate milk? Unless you have a union card Alright Can you tell I've been reading Through the book of Acts? Every example I come up with Is straight on the book of Acts It's embarrassing Yeah Everyone's pulling references From left and right And I go Well you know in the book of Acts That reminds me of chapter 4 As soon as I'm done with it You'll know He's moved on
It's embarrassing To Nehemiah Actually I made the mistake Of cutting into Jeremiah Just randomly I decided I was going to look around And I say that's a mistake Because Boy I mean You've got to be ready for that deal I would say I've been reading it piecemeal And I've decided That I really should have Just did that one and done Just gone straight through And set aside some time Because You hate to open the thing up Because you know It's just more trouble You know Jeremiah's like You know Lord help him And God's like You know what I'm just not tolerating this deal anymore You know Go ahead Weep Whatever you're going to do I just They had their opportunity Yeah You know And poor Jeremiah Just go God bless him He's after it But He's trying to save everybody And they're all like Whatever Yeah Yeah I just We're smarter than you I think you've got to get that All in one shot
It doesn't get any better Necessarily In the foregoing prophets But Yeah Yeah If you notice in the book of Acts There's a guy named Jeremiah I think that A lot of The workplace Where most of us work It'd be Kind of a Jeremiah feel to it Yeah You'd be like that Weeping prophet Trying to tell people And look at you With their glazed eyes Saying you're a freak What are you talking about That's not real Yeah You're stupid And that's what they did To Jeremiah basically We're going to put you in jail But you're stupid We're going to have you Eat that scroll you just wrote Your name is Jera Stupid And your face is weird I think that is tough though And I feel badly for I mean For the people yes But they're also actively Defying God So I mean There's a natural consequence We're going to talk And maybe we'll get to this Next week But one of the things That I keep popping up In the things that I read I've got to stay away From these comment sections
Of these religion blogs They can drive me nuts Yeah But the common thread Is that people People just will not accept That things should have consequences Right Like God is terrible Because he's enforcing consequences That there is a level of things You can and cannot do If you do them There's consequences To those things And like They betray That they just don't Understand Like they should be able To do whatever they want And there's no consequence To that Isn't that how Anybody who's 30 and under Has been raised There's really no consequences For anything You can say anything You want at school You don't get in trouble Yeah You get to talk to Like it's not a real consequence Yeah Not a consequence you feel Yeah right And really feel like Wow I shouldn't have done that It's just like Yeah Pulling over And so why not Pull it over to God too Well because I think People from a consequence perspective People learn to You know Buck the system
They learn what the system is They know where their levels are And then when it comes to A God that they don't believe in There's not even a system To adhere to Because they don't believe in it And so to that extent You know There's The Consequences don't make sense If you didn't tell me about God That there should be consequences And of course by the time you do that They've already lived a long time With the thought that there's no consequences And at the point in time Where you have to accept Yes there are consequences I deserve Those consequences Like that's the step That I think people have The hardest time making Is like even to the You know They might hear it That's a pretty tough thing To agree to Because right then If you If you make that choice Right then And you understand that Information right then Your life has got to change It has to change right there To go from that point to the other And I think that's a big change And I think people You know Aren't Aren't willing to separate Themself from the world For that second And make that step And so I think you lose it But anyway I'll
You know We might I think I have Some more thoughts on that And we'll talk about Some more next week But Yeah Unwillingness to You know Accept that there are Consequences Things Seems to be a pretty large Stumbling block For people God is You know Vengeful And spiteful And terrible He's just loving And candy coated He would never Do anything Yeah Like you get the impression That That is not a God You're not describing God Appropriately If you say that there are Consequences to things Because he is only loving And I guess that's the other thing And we will never resolve this So I'm not going to bring this Up specifically to discuss As if we're going to get through it But people's You know Half Picking of the Bible Like the worst Atheist Arguments I've ever seen Are because They're just Picking half the stuff There are some people
That are That are making Arguments And they're using The entire text And whatever That's a discussion We could at least You have something To talk about But the You know The random I'll just take this And this And this And this And this And then here you go And I'll piece together However you want As if God did not have it Written in the order That he wanted it Right Said the way he wanted it Said you know I just That seems to be The second biggest hang up Is the I just pick whatever I want I take whatever story I got emailed From my buddy You know About murders of children And things of that nature And you know Whatever If it happened Let's at least Talk about the context To see if we can Understand a God That is in that situation You know As opposed to This is what I pick out And I'm going to paint
The whole The whole You know Word with that brush So All right What do you think Mike How do you feel about that I'm on board with it I figured you would be All right Well I tell you what We're going to start heading out You've been Excuse me You've been listening to Live from the Path On Des Moines Amplified.com Again you can catch us During the week On livefromthepath.org There are archived shows You can sign up For the audio podcast Especially if you're having trouble With the technical issues With the show The podcast is clean Should have no jitters Things of that nature So You can also Get to our YouTube channel And you can interact with us On the blog And send us an email Because we'd love to hear from you Next week again Syndrome of Fire Will be in the studio And we'll be taking your calls I'll give you the number next week We didn't get any calls this week Because I didn't tell you You could call in But the studio phone is live So I guess we will see you Next week
