Segments
- Show open and tonight's lineup 0:00–3:33
A host opens the show on Des MoinesAmplified.com, introduces himself by name in the audio, and previews the night: the second Tales from the Path installment ('Dan the Dunce'), Awkward Moments in Bible History, the week's biblical topic (reaching the unreachable), and a new segment next week (Non-Biblical Signs of the Apocalypse).
- Thrifted shirt, Christmas creep, and Jingle Bells bobtail 3:35–11:21
Banter about a thrifted Jacobson Transportation Company shirt from Goodwill and a coworker named Rodney, then a long riff on Christmas music arriving too early – the hosts debate whether store Christmas music is holiday cheer or retail manipulation, then detour into what 'bobtail' means in Jingle Bells (an animal with a bobbed tail).
- Reverend Camping, date-setting, and word of the day: hooskow 11:21–13:40
The hosts joke about Reverend Camping pinning down a date for the Resurrection on Open Forum, riff on the idea that date-setters keep ruining God's schedule, and land on the word of the day: 'hooskow' (spelled H-O-O-S-G-O-W, used to mean force into a corner).
- Thief in the night and show contact info 13:41–15:55
A chat participant supplies 1 Thessalonians 5:4 about the day not overtaking believers as a thief; the hosts fumble through Bible software reading more thief-in-the-night verses, then give the show's phone number (515-327-1007) and email addresses.
- Non-Biblical Signs: the Kentucky beard-eating story 15:56–23:35
Preview of next week's Non-Biblical Signs of the Apocalypse: a host reads the news story of Harvey Westmoreland, a Kentucky man allegedly ambushed by Troy Hall and Holton Hill over a riding-lawnmower deal, shaved, and forced to eat his own beard; the hosts riff on the logistics of beard-eating.
- Beard-eating price game and cannibal movies 23:36–27:10
The hosts turn the beard story into a game: how much money would it take each of them to gnaw off and swallow an inch and a half of their own Santa-length beard (bids range from $500 to $1000, one host holds firm at $700), then drift into cannibal movies – Fried Green Tomatoes, Alive, and an unidentified childhood poodle-eating film.
- Music boxes, the proposal story, and the festival webcast 27:10–31:35
Tangents before the week's topic: the host's daughter calling a homeless man at Walmart 'gorilla man,' a music box playing the Dolly Parton 9 to 5 theme found at Altoona garage sales, and one host's story of trying to commission a one-run Swedish music box of the song he wrote for his wife's proposal – killed by a single flatted note outside the key. Also floated: a Life from the Path donkey music box, a webcast bid for the Spirit Midwest Music Festival, and the newsletter preview.
- Reaching the unreachable: the missed conversation 31:38–41:12
The week's topic, reaching the unreachable. A host addressed as Mike recounts a friend of his wife's family who died after he chickened out of a faith conversation he expected to go badly, and his regret afterward. Another host counters with a hospital visit where, as a pastor, he asked a dying woman 'How are you and God?' and found the family grateful someone finally had.
- Judging, the LTG group, and evangelism tactics 41:12–50:19
The discussion continues: 'God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble' (Proverbs, via James and 1 Peter) as a read on when to persist and when to shake the dust off; judging versus being judgmental (Matthew); one host's LTG accountability group; code-switching around nonbelievers to avoid the conversation; and an early-preaching story from 1984 door-knocking in Cleveland.
- Hospice chaplaincy: people die the way they live 50:19–53:46
One host recounts his years as a hospice chaplain in Cass County – 'people die the way they live' – and the Christopher Hitchens anecdote about refusing a deathbed conversion, concluding that faith conversations matter while people are alive, not at the end.
- Planting seeds and Where Do I Start 53:46–55:14
Wrap-up of the topic: believers are accountable only for putting the message out, not for the response – planting seeds others may water later – plus a plug for the earlier show 'Where Do I Start' for the Christ-curious.
- Next week: Candy for Nickels, plus thanks to Des Moines Amplified 55:14–57:56
Show business: next week's in-studio band Candy for Nickels (playing House of Bricks Dec 1 with Syndrome of Fire), thanks to Des Moines Amplified (Dwayne, Brett, John) for the free studio, and the Amplified Cash verbal-coupon program.
- Tales from the Path: Dan the Dunce 58:08–1:04:55
The full performed installment of Tales from the Path: 'Dan the Dunce,' after Hans Christian Andersen – the third son wins the bored princess with a dead crow, an old clog, and a pocket of mud. Afterward the hosts note it will go public on YouTube alongside 'Caps for Sale.'
- Awkward Moments in the Bible: Judas at the Last Supper 1:04:55–1:09:01
Awkward Moments in the Bible, part one: a host reads the Last Supper betrayal exchange (Matthew 26) – 'Surely not I, Rabbi' / 'Yes, it is you' – and the hosts riff on what Judas did next and how the other disciples must have felt, including a hard-of-hearing Thaddeus gag.
- Awkward Moments: Ehud, Eglon, and David in the cave 1:09:02–1:15:35
Part two: a host addressed as Dan tells the Judges 3 story – Ehud assassinating the very large King Eglon, whose servants wait 'to the point of embarrassment' assuming he is relieving himself – and David cutting Saul's tunic in the cave (1 Samuel 24). Bathroom logistics dominate.
- Dan Hudson for President 2012 1:15:36–1:19:01
Running gag: the 'Dan Hudson for President 2012' Facebook page, its handful of members, and the revelation that one host has been commenting on his own status as the 'Ford gumball guy.' The studio phone number is repeated.
- Winter Jam press passes and the David Crowder rehearsal 1:19:01–1:26:19
The hosts discuss applying for Winter Jam press passes and rehearse a backstage interview with David Crowder – one host playing Crowder – testing whether vague accusatory questions like 'What's your problem?' could work, then pivot to interviewing roadies about folding cables instead.
- Caller Matt Cassidy and Danielle's 21st birthday 1:26:19–1:49:29
A caller identified as Matt Cassidy (6'5", host of a Saturday-night viral video show) trades jokes about the campaign and baptism; a two-minute donkey clip plays as a reset; the crew quizzes in-studio Danielle about her upcoming 21st birthday – an apple 'teeny' like JD on Scrubs – then everyone compares 21st birthdays, drinking stories, and dancing.
- Hot chocolate competition and next week's rundown 1:49:29–1:56:40
Regrouping: the week's witnessing topic ran short, so the crew runs down next week – Candy for Nickels in studio, a longer Non-Biblical Signs of the Apocalypse with chat voting 'the end is near' versus 'we've got some time,' and Name That Tune: Jesus Edition (secular songs containing the word Jesus) – plus the hot-chocolate competition assignment and a mock game show, 'What's your problem?'
- Sign-off 1:56:40–1:58:16
Sign-off: newsletter pitch (one host admits to scraping Facebook friends' emails onto it), YouTube plugs for 'Dan the Dunce' and 'Caps for Sale,' the audio podcast on iPod, and the show's sign-off exclamation.

Studios in downtown Des Moines, you are Live from the Path. I say, I'm going to turn them up, I say, there's chit-chat going on. Okay, don't listen to this, but I don't like this chit-chat. I'm done chitting or chatting. You're listening to Live from the Path on Des MoinesAmplified.com. Thank you so much for listening tonight. I appreciate you being here. My name is Ben Fustiou. You are lucky to be here. That's one word for it. You have to turn the volume down on your computer. We're getting feedback. We've got a good show for you tonight. We are ready to debut the second installment of Tales from the Path, which will be Dan the Dunce. It's one of my favorites so far. Actually, it's tough to beat that cast for sale. That's solid. That is. But, yeah, we'll be doing Dan the Dunce. We'll probably do that around the 11 o'clock hour on the break between the… That's worth waiting for. It is. I watched it today. It's quality. It's big business. We'll also be talking about awkward moments in Bible history. There's some weird stuff going on. You know, the Bible, there's a lot of stories in the Bible and a lot of solid stuff, but what the Bible doesn't always do is give you the after effect. Right. The full encompassing story. Yeah. Something happens. You know, you bring the guy that tells Baal to bring the fire down and it doesn't happen. That's awkward. You know? Yeah. It doesn't really tell. And then God brings the fire and burns everybody up. And I don't know that the three minutes after that is also awkward. Yeah.
Yeah. So I'm just saying, there's some awkward moments in there. So we're going to talk about some specific… You know, I think you can truly know that you're reading your Bible when you're… You know, that you're not just skimming over it. You know, like I've heard this story, blah, blah, blah. When you're actually going, what? Seriously? That's how it happened? Or I wonder what so-and-so was doing during this entire conversation. Exactly. They never have the picture in the pictorial Bibles of the guy at the end looking like a complete dunce going, what? What's that now? Awkward. Oh, yeah, Daniel, you're the awkward lady. Can you… Awkward. There we go. This is going to be excellent. Well, so we'll do some awkward moments in the Bible. We're also going to talk about our primary biblical topic this week is reaching the unreachable. You know, I like to subtitle it as taking a punch for Christ, but whatever. I'll preface that. The real question is, are there folks in your life that you feel like you can't share your faith with, and then are there times in which sometimes you've just got to take that punch in the face, even though you know it's not going to go well, or perhaps it won't? Literally? Yeah, literally. Well, I think there's biblical precedent to not take the punch in the face. That's what we're going to talk about. And there's biblical precedent to take the punch in the face. I think we ought to let's go ahead and duke it out. I can't find anywhere to back up what you said about Judas. I don't remember what I said about Judas. You said he split. I don't show that he split. Oh, that's for, that's for… Does it say in a loop? Shh, that's for… All right, fine.
That's kind of an awkward moment you're putting me in right now. Awkward! We'll also touch on a preview of next week, that we'll have a new segment next week called Non-Biblical Signs of the Apocalypse, things that are not tied to biblical prophecy whatsoever. Those are pretty well documented. We're going to hit some things that, you know, although aren't documented in the Bible, may very well be signs that the world is on its way out. Like me being an underwear model? If that were accurate, that would be a non-biblical sign of the apocalypse. Whiz-bang! Welcome airport security. So we're going to need you to disrobe a non-ease. I'm going to need you to get ready to be amazed. BVD says what? Did you steal that shirt? From who? From Jacobson Transportation Company? Jacobson Transportation Company gave it away to the Goodwill, and I was on the recipient edge. Apparently, Rodney doesn't work there anymore. Or Rodney. Actually, I would just, I inference that Rodney's just gotten fat and had to get new shirts. It's possible. They know. He's got to squeeze into them. That's true. Every three weeks, they come, come on, Rodney. Seriously, we just got these shirts. That's coming out of your check. I like a hostess. I don't know why Rodney doesn't. He just could be. So I was in the, I was at Walmart this week. It doesn't matter what I was buying. I was thinking, I was, well, what was I buying? And I thought, who gives a crap? So anyway, so I sat at the Walmart. I care. And I heard, and I heard the Christmas tunes are on, right? There's Christmas tunes playing in the Walmart, and there's Christmas tunes on the radio. And every time, this time of year, there come articles out, people go on tirades about
Christmas is always coming too early. You're supposed to wait until after Thanksgiving, and that's when Christmas starts. Except for, we're like two weeks before when they started this business. They did the preview weekend on the light 104 of the holiday music. And there's stuff in the, again, there's music going to the Walmart. There was an article on the CNN Belief blog today from a guy that was like, you know, Christmas starts way too early. And I thought to myself, this problem will never rectify itself. And here's the reason. You do not know that Christmas is too early until it's gone on too long. Good point. So, because I found myself in the Walmart, and the Christmas tunes were going, and I'm like, yeah, Christmassy time. Good. This feels good being out and about. It's cold outside. Nice Christmas music going on. I think, yeah, this is nice. And the thing is, is I'm not going to realize that it's been going on. What did I say? That's manly. That's super manly. You don't want to mention because you were at Walmart buying a purse. I need a little Christmas. Who'd I got the new snow globes? Look at that. Those are fantastic. Anyway. I like the icicles. I was buying power tools at the Walmart. That's seeing a happy tune. Tidy whities, whatever. So anyway, but I realized the problem very well is that you don't notice it until it's gone on too long. Like then four weeks in, then you get tired of it and you're like, Christmas has gone on too long. Yeah. But I mean, because it's such a nice season for the most part, you don't really notice it and that's why everyone gets on, you can get away with it doing it earlier and earlier is because who doesn't like Christmas? That's true.
If you're sick of it two weeks before, you're not just like, forget it, let's cancel it. It's irritating. Well, here's the difference in my own personal mind. If you're like driving down the road listening to Christmas music because, hey, you know, I want to be in a happy mood and that's one thing. But if it's a store playing Christmas music because they're trying to get you in the mood to buy Christmas gifts and spend your money, it's like, hey. You're such a cynic, Dan. Why else do stores enjoy the music? Do stores really care what holiday it is unless that's when their biggest retail? You merchants, you. You merchants, you. Give me back my cash. Oh, that's, I'm telling you, man. Well, a month ago, at least a month ago, the Christmas trees were up at the malls and everything and the Christmas, you know, music was playing. It's like, you know. Maybe people like to get it set up when it's not, you know, freezing cold outside. It's inside. The mall's inside now. Yeah, but I'm saying if you want to buy your stuff and get all your stuff set up. They want you to buy your stuff. I want to buy stuff. And there's nothing wrong with that. That's when we buy stuff. It's capitalism, Daniel. You don't like it. No, I'm good with it. You know, I don't really care. I'm just saying if they're just trying to get me in the mood to spend money, then it's different than getting me in the mood for Christmas. That is the store's job. That's how they stay in business. You don't even go shopping before Christmas. Exactly. You can't just wait. So, exactly, they have to play it early. You're upset at the store for wanting to sell you items. I'm not upset. I'm just saying that doesn't get me in the Christmas spirit. You know, it depends on the context of where the music's being played.
You're a curmudgeon. I'm a what? A curmudgeon. I don't even know what that is, but I like it. You're the Christmas story. You're the Scrooge. You're Ebenezer. Penny Pinscher, making your servants work till the wee hours? If I could. Do you have any servants? I don't. I'd like to get some. They're cheap from what I hear. No. Pardon me. Man, I'm sidetracked. Hey, you are kind of a curmudgeon. I'm kind of a cynic. If you're always on the beware of being manipulated, you realize that they're already ruining your fun because you're on the lookout for it. So you could be entirely legitimate. I'll be going down the hallway going, oh, Jingle, wait a minute. I mean, that's exactly what I'm saying. Fun holiday music. And you're like, you're trying to get me to buy stuff. Then they're saying, look, it's the Christmas sale. Quick, get your gifts now before they run out. Okay, now, if they say that, fine. But if they're just playing the Christmas music, you don't have any reason to start shaking your finger at them. Yeah. Well, why are they playing it? Because it's Christmas time. People enjoy the holidays, Dan. Well, they don't play July 4th music in May. No one listens to Yankee Doodle Pops in May. But then nobody goes. There's not a big shopping rush for July 4th. No. That's why. Exactly.
No, you're putting the cart before us here. The Christmas horse is pulling the Good Tidings cart. And you're saying that the cart is only there so it can fling open its doors and sell goods and wares. The Christmas horse would be Bobtail, wouldn't it? Bells on Bobtail. What does Bobtail mean anyway? It's its name. It's the name of the horse. Bobtail. Bells on Bobtail. Bells on Bobtail. No. Is that right? I think. It's an animal with its tail bobbed. Well, I've never seen that. That's the name of the poor horse. A natural Bobtail is an animal with a genetically short tail. Oh. So it's a mutant horse. Bobtail. They put bells on it to try to cover up its mutancy. A Bobtail. A horse, dog, or cat with a bobbed very short tail. Yeah. So they're saying, what's wrong with your horse? Nothing. It's just got bells on it. No worries. They ring more on shorter tails would be the deal. Why? I don't know. Wouldn't a longer tail have more of a move? It has longer to go. Yeah. They're longer to go. Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. Depends on how quick he's running, I guess. That's like saying a… Oh, that's a bad example.
I don't know. Yeah, it's like saying a tall guy can't get around as fast because his legs are longer. You're saying just because it's longer… No, no, no. But if he has bells, they're going less than a little guy. Yeah, he takes longer steps. Like if you have a really tall guy and a really short guy walking next to each other, they can walk the same speed and the tall guy's going click, click, click. And the short guy's going click, click, click, click to keep up with the tall guy. I thought I saw a midget on the highway today and it was a little kid. He was just wearing really baggy clothes. And I was like, man, that poor guy. And it turns out it was a child. It was like 12. But he had, I mean, super baggy clothes on. I thought, well, that's too bad. In fact, I was talking to Ben on the phone. I said, a midget. And he goes, what? I said, oh, no, it was a child. My mistake. Maybe his name is Rodney. Hey, you know, I was thinking about this today. Yeah, he goes, where's my shirt? My only shirt, my wife gave it away. For some reason, I was thinking about this today. Only because there's a guy on the radio who's a, he reads, I can't remember what show he does. But he always goes, I'm going to take our next call, please. Welcome to Open Forum. That's Open Forum with Reverend Camping. Yeah, Reverend Camping. Okay, so he's pinned down Resurrection Day. He's pumped a date on it. Oh, no. And I thought, what a mistake, you know. So here's what I keep thinking is that the Bible verse says that it will come like a thief in the night. No one will know what day it is, you know. You know, so I started thinking, what if the resurrection was planned for like a thousand years ago, but crackpots keep coming out, throwing out dates. I can't use that one now. And the Lord's like, well, now I can't use May 3rd because I can't make him right.
You were all ready. I said it comes to Stephen tonight, you know. Gabriel had the trumpet ready to go. No. Idiots keep coming out proclaiming this is going to be the day. They're like, ah, we can't use that one. That's probably not the case, but I'm just saying. What if you did do that? What if you predicted it for every day? That's right. Then we just, it goes on. I don't think it's a good idea to hooskow the Lord into a date. I don't know. You're going to have to die sometime. I'm sorry. What does it mean to hooskow somebody? What does it mean? Hooskow. With a bobtail. Stronghold. Force into a corner. Dig on it on the web. How do you spell it? H, it's a H-O-O-S-G-O-W. That's another word. You guys have bigger vocabulary. Hooskow. I don't think, that's not one of those learned phrases that we pick up at school, Dan. Oh, okay. Hold on. H-O-O-S-G-O-W. Is that when you're driving on the road and say, hooskow is that? Hold on. You might have something here. She ended up in a hooskow for disorderly conduct. You're not using that right. Hooskow. Hooskow, clink, caboose. I gotta say, this stupid urban dictionary comes up every time. I'm telling you, it's in life-longHering. They take you straight to the whooskow.
I did not know that. Okay. Sweet. See? There you go. Yeah, where do you learn these words? Television. Shady construction types. Yeah. It's the books I read on break. You're listening to live from the path on Des Moines Amplified.com. Thanks again so much for being here. What does that mean? What? Oh, word of the day. Word of the day is whooskow? It must be. I use it every day. It's the word of every day. Okay, so the chat, when we were talking about… Oh, toilet paper. We were talking about toilet paper? Sorry. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this day should overtake you as a thief. So it won't come as a thief in the night. Hold on. But it will come as a thief in the night. Yeah, do it. Get us a verse, Daniel, with your fancy gigamahoot. No, my… Your computer thing. My brain. You pump this Bible software all the time, and I tell you to do things, and you're standing around looking like an oaf. It's supposed to make it look like my brain. Okay, so… Let's see. It's searching through my brain. It's searching through my brain. My brain. Going through my mental…
Thief in the night, yes. Biblical reverence. I'm coming. Blessing when it stays awake. Uh-huh. Remember you received. Okay. Thief comes. Okay, it's different. It's not going well. What was… What was the… Did they… Is that a Bible verse on the chat? Yeah, what… I'm sorry, curious. What was the… What was the verse you're talking about? As a thief… Okay, oh, as a thief upon the lost, not believers. Gotcha. Okay. I see what you're saying. The thief… The thief has a negative connotation, but shouldn't be for the believer. Yeah, they had a sneaky… You never know when the thief's coming. Yeah, yeah. A godly thief. A thief of Jesus. The thief never says, uh, I'll be there at 10 o'clock. Yeah, right. Be ready. Yeah. The thief comes when you're least expecting. That is a parable, and that is in the Matthew 20s somewhere. That is a who's gal. That is a who's gal. Anyway, topic, uh… Ooh, hey, that reminds me. We have a phone.
If you want to get a hold of us here at Live from the Path, the phone number is 515-327-1007. Yeah. And you can reach us through the phone and email, if you like, which Ben will hit you with the information for. Yeah, so if you want us to catch it in the studio while we're in here, you can send it to livefromthepath at gmail.com. Otherwise, our normal email address is info at livefromthepath.org. And participate in the chat. Yeah. So, uh, yeah, thank you, by the way, for you folks that have been in the chat. I really appreciate you guys hanging out and interacting with the show. That's fun. Definitely. So anyway, just a preview for the stuff to come from next week. This is the non-biblical signs of the apocalypse. Is there a picture? No. No, well, not currently. All right. Anyway, blue line, November 12th. The Kentucky man claims he was forced to eat his own beard after an attempt to sell a riding lawnmower went horribly awry. Though he escaped serious injury. Go on. Harvey Westmore. You've got me. Says he only managed to get away without the hair on his chin after he and his brother were ambushed by two men interested in purchasing a mower. Here we go. So here's the… Wait a minute. Was it for sale? Or did these dudes just… No. No. It wasn't. So here we go. Okay. Sorry. In his own words, Troy offered to buy it for me for $250. I paid $20 for it. He thought I was trying to cheat him, Westmoreland told the press. One thing led to another, and before I knew it, there were knives and guns and everything just went haywire. That's when Holton Hill allegedly shaved Westmoreland's beard and put a knife to his brother's neck.
They cut my beard and forced me to eat it, Westmoreland said. The two men released the brothers but said they would kill them if they contacted police. The brothers alerted authorities who arrested Holton Hill. They pleaded guilty and are expected to be fined and sentenced to supervision diversion on Tuesday. What crime? What's the crime? I'm pretty sure you can't… Assault? I'm pretty sure you can't just cut off a guy's beard and shove it in his mouth. Yeah, but I mean, it's not really assault. Like, if someone cuts my hair, it's not really assault. They got a knife at their throat. Wait, okay, hold on. Well, that may be… Yeah. That's a little rough. Okay, hold on. There is video for this. Minor flush. All right, let's watch the video. Let's see if this does anything for you. It's not a reenactment of the guy eating his beard. That would just taste nasty. Well, keep a clean beard. Well, I mean, just hair. Here it goes. We're pretty good guys. At least that's what Harvey Westmoreland and his brother Joseph used to think about former friends Troy Hall. Look at those guys. That was before May last year on Willisburg Road, where Hall… I have a bite of your beard. …cleaning out the stalls out there for Troy, you know, working for him. And they call, want me to come around there. Well, when I get there, I realize that they're already drunk. And of all things to fight about, Westmoreland says… I think Sam's beard tastes like cinnamon. …lawn mower. Troy offered to buy it from me for $250. I paid 20 bucks for it. He thought I was trying to cheat him.
One thing led to another, and before I knowed it, there was knives and guns and everything just went haywire. He says his brother had a mark on his neck where a knife was held. But Westmoreland's long was more permanent. He cut my beard and forced me to eat it. He says Walton Hill let them go, but threatened them. If we called the police, they said we would not live to see daylight. But that wasn't enough to keep the two brothers from calling 911. I believe in the law. I believe that justice has been served. And you know it will be after Tuesday. But that's the sentencing date. I love these guys. And while it will take some time for something to go back to normal, we'll probably find them. Okay, now see. Close off the beard. Westmoreland says… It's tasty. These dudes might be a perfect conversation to witnessing to the unwitnessable. Now, a man that attacks another man drunk over a $20 mower cuts a man's beard off and attempts to force it to eat it. Now, you tell me, Daniel, I'd like you to go witness this guy and get him to Jesus. I'd have to stop. I'd be laughing. Where do you even start? I think I'd say, okay, first of all, let's go ahead and get sober. Let's try that. I shaved before I got here, so there's no problem. Let's calm down a little bit. I'm having trouble with the technical nature of this item. Like, it's a coarse hair. Think of the beard hair. Think of trying to eat that and swallow it. I'm thinking vomit. Yeah, I would have to. What did he cut it with? Is it a knife? Like he took out a book skinner. That's a pretty sharp knife. He was at a long beard.
He had a lot of beard there. Yeah, it was, if I remember the picture right, I think I saw a picture before. It was down to like his, you know. It was like a Santa style. Oh, so he cut off half his easy top beard, not like he was scruffing the face. No, no, no. Boy, now that's a full tuft of beard to eat. But what makes you think, I'm going to go ahead and cut this dude's beard off and I'm going to make him eat it. You got to hit him where it hurts if you want that more at a reasonable price. I'm sure he was proud of that. Yeah, he's probably been working on that beard for a long time. Well, because he cut it off, but then making him eat it? Yeah, I don't feel. There's probably some corn left in there, so I've already thought, well, maybe that'll I bet the guy that cut it off is not the brains of the operation. And then the other guy who doesn't do the dirty work just sits back and he goes, you know what, Eric? Have him eat that. You have him put that in his mouth and eat it. Are you ready to negotiate price? Harvey, you chew on that beard. I'm sorry, I can't hear you with that beard in your mouth. Is that a snapper or a trubill? That reminds me of a movie I saw when I was a kid. I have no idea what the name of this movie was. I just remember toward the end, this guy was forced to eat his prized poodle. And they put it through a grinder. I mean, they didn't know it was the poodle. And they're like, this is your poodle. And they were stopping it. And he ended up dying, I think. From eating the poodle? Yeah, like choked. Is it illegal to eat poodle? I mean, does it make you sick to eat poodle? Well, he choked, he died, I believe. And that was a kid. That was just years, that was like, you know. It's quite a thing to remember, Dan. That was a real story?
It was a real movie. A movie? Yeah, it was a movie. Like in fried green tomatoes and they eat a person. Yeah, I mean, I don't remember, like I said, I don't remember anything. It was just like, they ate somebody in fried green tomatoes? I remember I was really sad, I felt sorry for the poodle. And then I thought, oh, now I'm going to feel sorry for the guy. They didn't eat somebody in fried green tomatoes? Yeah, like someone died, they diced him up and put him in the food, in the restaurant. Yeah, and the sheriff comes in. Like, I think the sheriff's looking for… I don't know, I haven't seen this movie. You need to see the movie. Yeah. Okay, Allison says, yes, they did. She agrees that someone was chopped up and put in the sauce. Tastes like chicken. That's a disaster. Tastes like beard. I knew that. I knew that just the candy could be trusted. Everything that Hollywood stands for and you've seen fried green tomatoes with cannibalism? You won't go into a store because you think they're trying to sell you Christmas goods? It is Cheryl's favorite movie. Oh, fairly. Like in the world. Man. She hasn't seen it for a while. This is really something. By the way, the rapture's going to be next week. Yeah, pushing it back. Man. You know what? I'm going to shave, I'm going to save the little clippings, whatever, and I'm going to eat some tomorrow. Just to try it out? Just to honor this guy. Boy, that's kind of… I mean, that just has to be gross. A brand new shiny one.
Give you $25 for that one. That's for a safer. Or I'll eat my beard in front of you. Boy. Has anybody else in the chat seen any movies with some cannibals in it? I was trying to think of other cannibal movies. What's that one where they freeze in the Arctic and they eat the guy's butt? Butt? What? I've never heard of that movie. Alive. Isn't it like Athletes or something that crash landed? It's called Alive. Yeah. I never saw it. I think it's got an explanation point. Bottom, what do you prefer? Tush? Anyway, they ate it. They just cut off a bit of the cheek and ate it. That's probably part of the idea, I guess. You don't want to eat the heel or the beard. You just be really hungry. Yeah. The only thing I can think of is zombie movies. Yeah. So. And then they eat their brains. That's not cannibism, though, because they usually eat alive people. Yeah. Anyway. Anyway. Single hair. Yeah, boy. I don't know. I just couldn't eat a whole beard. It just makes me… I just couldn't eat a whole beard. I suppose… Okay, let me ask you this. How much would it take for you to eat a portion of your beard?
How big a beard would we talk about? Okay, so here's the setup. I say, look, I'll give you 50 bucks, and you've got to take your own beard. It's down Santa level, and you've got to, like, gnaw it off and swallow it at the tip. An inch and a half. 50 bucks? You'd take a lot more than that. $50. A lot more than that? At least $1,000. $1,000? $1,000? Absolutely. Can I clean the beard before I do it? Yeah, whatever, yeah. Yeah, you can scrub it. It has to be worth my time. Okay. And my vomit. I think I'd do it for $300 if you let me cut it off. I don't want to have to gnaw it off like some kind of rabid animal. That's just gross. No, you've got to gnaw it off. $700. I could… $700? Yeah. I'd do it for $500, I think. I think I'd eat my own beard for $500. How long do I got to do this? No, it's just however long it takes to eat the inch and a half. What if it takes me, like, three days? I'm starving because I can't get this beard. You better hurry up. Man. That's it. I don't know. $500 seems a bit light for eating your own beard. I don't know. Anybody on the chat would you eat your own beard for $500? Would you eat someone else's beard?
No. No. It'd take more than $1,000. No, that's a no. Okay. Bean? $500? Would you let your husband and or boyfriend or uncle, if you are otherwise unaffiliated, for $500? Let's first answer $500, and then if $500 won't do it, what amount of money would it take? I said $700. Why? What's $650 or $700? I said $700, not $650. So I cut $699 in cold hard cash? Don't try to talk me down or I'll cut your beard off. And you know what happens after that? $701? It's not price is right rules on the beard bit. Yeah. Well, they're over then. No, seriously. Seriously. $699, you wouldn't do it? No. I said $700. I'm staying firm. You're trying to make a monkey at me. You're trying to take my terms and screw me about. So you won. $700 is the price. I'm just saying, I don't think there's any reason to quibble over a dollar. I think there is, because if there's no reason to quibble, then give me the buck. I don't have it. You raised $699, that's it? I got $699. I really want this done. Give me something else that's worth a dollar. Come on. I got $699 and a silly band. No, give me your glasses.
Give me your glasses and a pair of your muffs. We'll call it a day. How am I going to get home? I don't care. You're so gung-ho on me eating my beard. Plus, once I get your glasses, you won't be able to see whether I'm eating my beard or not. I'll kick you in the man parts and run away. Done. If someone bought me a new car, or just a new car to me, I would do it. You would eat off the tip of somebody's beard? Yeah. Does it have to be running? Depending on the person. Huh? Yeah, whatever. You can pick the guy. I don't care. You can have a nice beard. I have a 1973 convertible that you can have. Anything that will get me to where I need to go. It's chilly, but it's available. Does it stop? No. Well, that's tricky. All right. Anyway, put the thing on it. Nobody else in the chat is participating. No one wants to talk about this beard thing. That's fine. It's just gross. That's fine. Whatever. You can learn something about yourself tonight if you would participate. Open up your eyes. Open up your heart. However you're going to know what your limits are if you refuse to share with everyone. This is a welcoming community, a life on the path. Okay. My daughter saw a homeless guy today. And at the Walmart. And apparently she said, hey mom, who's that gorilla man?
Apparently he's very homeless. What's he doing at the Walmart? I don't know. Begging for money? I don't know. Actually, that's the place to go. I know if they're at the Walmart, they got cash. You know, hey, is it harder to get money? Like as a homeless guy? Because we're becoming less and less of a cash society. You think times are tough? I mean, in addition to times being tough for your standard homeless man? Because you don't keep paper money on you? Oh, he's there to listen to the music. He enjoys the holiday tunes. It's the only thing that keeps him going. Jingle bells. Jingle bells. He can't be suckered into sales because he doesn't have any money. Play all day long, Wally. Or he goes to the Hallmark and just kind of twists the snow globes, the musical globes, and listens to them all the time. Actually, that'd be a pretty cool thing to have. If I were homeless, I'd like to have a music box. That seems like that would be a pretty slick thing to have to keep me company. I got, we were out at the, what? I'm manly. Anyway, we were at the garage sales. We were at the Altoona-wide garage sales this summer, and someone had a music box of like a desk. Anyway, Emma kind of liked this music box, so we got it for her. And it plays the theme to 9 to 5, the dolly part. What? Vehicle. Oh, look, that's hip. That's sassy. Yeah. But it only cuts, it does that part, and then goes, when it turns up, and then does it over and over and over again. That could be annoying. Yeah.
It gets there. But anyway, I didn't realize Dolly Parton made her way into music boxes, but she did. That's when you know you've arrived. Yeah. I tried. Hey, so when I was proposing to my wife, I had written her a song, or I'd written a song before I met her, but I decided it was her, too. She did not. I was like, well, I got this engagement ring I was going to give to someone else, but… You know, I don't remember… That didn't work out, so… That didn't work out, so… I'm not sure whether she knows that or not. Well, she's not, okay. Anyway, so… But anyway, I was going to… I thought I was going to make her a music box, and then have it play the song, you know? And I thought that'd be pretty cool. So, the problem was finding someone that would produce me a music box in just one. Yeah. Like, you could find someone in the United States that would do it, but they would only do it at, like, 500 groups, a group of 500, and they were, like, 28 bucks a piece or something. So, obviously, I didn't need 500. So, anyway, I found a guy in Sweden that would do it, and he would do a one run for, like, 118 bucks after exchange rates and stuff. So, I thought this was going to be pretty cool. Actually, that's kind of not bad. I thought it'd be pretty decent, you know? You'd get it shipped over. And so, anyway, but I wrote the music down, and apparently there's a flat in it, and they can only do it that's outside of the key, and they can only do notes that are in the key. They can't do any, like, blue notes or anything that otherwise doesn't lie within the key because it's dependent on the tines that they put in there, right? And they can't just introduce a non-keyed time. So, I couldn't make this music box because of the one flatted note in there that otherwise wasn't in the key signature. Huh.
That was disappointing. You could have done a rewrite. Well, it's not the same tune, Dan. We should make a pathway one. You can't just change random notes. What tune are we going to put on there? We've got to have a pathway, I mean, a Life in the Path theme song. Yeah. And there'll be a donkey on it. And he'll spin. And he'll cut his beard. We'll give those out to all of our guests. It'll be our partying gift. Gift. Like when your grandpa used to put his thumb in there and go, hey, look, I'll cut my thumb off or whatever. I'm going to do that with my beard. That'd be pretty impressive, actually. We could give those out at the Spirit Midwest Festival next year. Yeah. Man, you know, I don't know if it's going to come through or not, but we were vying at that Spirit Midwest Music Festival to do the webcast for the full two-day event. Yeah. That'd be cool. Like doing in-between bands, doing interviews and stuff. We were going to do it like the Olympics. Danielle has a band. She wants to get into it. That's not a problem. Is Julie on tonight? Hello? Julie? Julie. It doesn't look like it. Julie. All right, Daniel. Julie. That's enough. Where'd she go? Okay. Anyway, so this week, and we wrote it.
If you guys are signing up for the newsletter, you kind of got a preview of this. But what we're going to talk about this week is reaching the unreachable. The person that you have in your life that you feel like you just don't have a good way to share your faith with them. And this came up from something that Mike ran into here within the last few weeks. Mike, I don't know if you want to go ahead and kind of give an explanation. Yeah, it's not, you know, a friend of my wife's family passed away here a couple weeks ago. And, like, I was going to go talk to him. I was going to go talk to him about Jesus and whatever, and I never did it. And it's because I perceived it as just being a lose-lose conversation. Like, it was just, I knew it wasn't going to go well. I knew it was not going to be received well. You know, and I didn't even give it a shot. And, you know, like, usually I just kind of let that stuff slide. I didn't, and I'm not real hard on myself about it, but, like, when he passed away, I was like, why didn't I just go over there? I mean, what was the worst going to happen? You know, he's not going to like me, whatever. You know, the family's not going to like me, you know, which is too bad. They probably don't. No, they probably don't like me anyway. That's the bonus part, you know. But, I don't know, like, I was thinking about it, and I thought, you know, why do I have such a big hang-up about this, you know? And, you know, what's the, I was looking for a statue, like, I'm a black and white, you know, lines and limits guy. You know, like, what exactly does the Lord say in this? Because I know, or do I even know, you know, on how this conversation's going to go. Like, I thought about it for a couple, three days when I first thought about just going over and talking to him. It was just going to be a simple conversation, you know, and I thought, well, this is no big deal. I should be able to do this, you know. And then I thought, I don't even know where to start. I don't even know how to bring it up. Because I know as soon as I say, so, how's you and God doing? Yeah. And then it goes, what? You know, and then I did it. And it turns foul, you know, and I'm like, like, I just knew, I knew as soon as I uttered one sentence, like, our relationship would never be the same again. You know, it would never even be palatable. You know, it would be like, oh, great, here comes Mike. You know, and I thought, you know, do I have a problem with that? You know, should I have a problem with that? I shouldn't have a problem with that. You know, I should be completely okay with this. You know, but I still didn't do it.
It wasn't enough to convince me to go over there. And it just made me sad. Like, I don't know where he stood or what he had going. You know, I don't know anything about that. You know, but I just know that I wanted to at least talk to him about it. And I didn't do it. I didn't do it. And I just, it made, it just made me sad. It made me, it was really disappointed that I didn't go do it and myself that I didn't go do it. And, you know, whether it would have done anything or done nothing or whether it needed to be done or not done. You know, all questions I don't know the answer to. But I know that I wanted to do it. And I completely chickened out. And you talked yourself out of it. I completely talked myself out of it. I think we all do that. It drives me, I've done it too. It drives me crazy. You know, there's 900 reasons not to. But there's one really good reason to. Yeah. And somehow we talk ourselves out of all the things you said. What they won't like me, change the relationship, it'd be awkward. But if they ask something, I can answer. Yeah. Yeah. You know, and I've found after doing the same thing multiple times lately, I just decided to quit beating around the bush. And I just come right out now. How are you and God? You know, if they're in a situation where they know. Well, I mean, you know, that's the thing I thought is, you know, I think that's the most disappointing thing to me is because I thought, you know, after it's all said and done, I thought, what was the worst thing that was going to happen? Like, honestly, the worst thing, you know, were they going to blackball you, not talk to you anymore? Consider you some kind of freak in nature? You know, whatever. If I have to be considered an outcast dude on Jesus' behalf, you know, I can shoulder that. You know, it's going to stink. You know, it's going to be awkward. You know, but I'm pretty sure I can shoulder that. I went to a friend's hospital room recently. It was a relative of a friend. And kind of as a, I guess, a favor, you know, and have the pastor come, you know.
And evidently I was the fourth pastor that day that had been in there, you know. And she just was diagnosed with some pretty serious news and, well, you might not have much long and that whole thing. So, you know, they're already thinking, final, like, wow, this could be it, you know. Whatever you thought in the past, right now you're thinking, well, I better, you know. Right. What if I'm wrong? Right. You know, and so I just came out how, hey, now because I'm a pastor, at least I've used to use the buzzword, hey, as a pastor. So I'm not coming as a friend. I'm not coming as a free guy. Right, at a left field. Yeah. Just by the way, I'm a pastor. And here's a question I really need to ask you. How are you doing with God? And I had a great conversation. You know, and it turned out, hey, she said we're really, really good. You know, maybe it hadn't been in the past, but right now things are great, you know. And I talked to the family afterwards, and they were just like, we're so glad you asked that because nobody else did. You know, all these pastors were coming in, and they're all like, well, how's the weather? Oh, man. Yeah, well, what's your favorite food? You know, I mean, just total surface stuff. Yeah. And I thought, you know, that's been me many times because you don't want to ask the awkward, you know. No. And I finally just decided it's not worth it. I mean. What better time than then to ask it, though? There's no other better time, I don't think. Yeah. And I've had that feeling multiple times that you're describing that I just kick myself, and I guess you have it enough. You finally just say, whatever, just do it. Yeah. And so maybe next time you'll just do it. Who knows? I think I'm going to have to because I don't think I can do that again. It's horrible. Like, you know, I don't know. Like, and it doesn't, you know, I wouldn't say that, like, depressed me beyond all belief all week, but, like, any time that I had some time by myself, it was like the, it would pop in my head.
Like, I'm such a jerk. Like, maybe God was asking you to do that. The beautiful thing is if, you know, he'll ask other people, you know, and there's been hard times he's asked me, and I was like, oh, you know, there's all these reasons I really can't do it, God. You know, you just trust hopefully you found someone else who was listening, you know. Well, yeah, and I think, you know, it almost boils down to the Moses and Aaron deal, you know. Like, God wanted Moses, and Moses is like, I can't do it, you know, I don't speak well, whatever, and he found someone else to do it, but Aaron fouled it up. And so, you know, I mean, he still got God's purpose done, but he didn't do it how God wanted it done, you know. And so, like, I just, I know, the thing is, I know exactly what it was. I never would have thought of that on my own. I know exactly what it was, and I totally ignored it and pushed it aside because I thought, this is going to be very awkward. Oh, yeah, and it would be. And it would be. That's the thing is, it's not one of the things that are like, well, this could go really well. Like, I'm almost 100% certain it was going to go completely awkward, you know. And so, whatever. I think that's how we got on the topic of witnessing to the unwitnesses. Well, like, how to get yourself maybe, I don't know, I don't want to say psyched up for it, but, you know, like, know where your limits are. Know what you can do, you know, as a person talking to someone else about Christ and, you know, know what's expected of them. You know, like, know whether you're wasting your breath. But, you know, I mean, that doesn't mean don't give it a shot, but that means, you know, you throw a shot out there, and if it's going to come back at you in spades, and it's going to go terrible, you know, there's no reason for you to sit there and get yourself berated. Or, you know, have the Lord's name dragged through the mud just to stand on a principle, you know. And so, and actually I found a good Bible verse, I thought, that referenced it real well, that I thought was almost the heart of the matter. And James and 1 Peter both referenced it, and it's back to Proverbs. And the paraphrase is, is God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. And so, when you, how I ration it out is, is that when you're going to talk to somebody that, you know, is just filled with self-pride, you know, there's no room for God there. Like, you can introduce it, and, you know, and man, there's like 50 parables that cover this just as well, but, but, you know, when they're so stuck in the way that they're living, and the way that they, and the stuff that they have going in the life that they built, you know, which, which all on the surface can appear to be great things, you know. I mean, they could be very nice people, you know, not have any outward problems, but, I mean, you fill it with, with, with pride, and, you know, and, and no need for knowing your Savior, you know, there's no room for God to live there anyway. So, so, when you, when you're going to, you know, to talk to somebody about Christ, and, you know, the, the answer comes back, you know, what do I need him for, you know, your conversation's almost, you know, you probably got a couple more shots left, but, I mean, when it's shut down, like, I don't have time for God here, I don't have room for him in my life, you know, that's the one thing that, that, and we were talking about this before the show started, like, that, you know, the only thing that keeps you from being in God's grace is you, and your choice to be unavailable to him, you know. Right. And so, that's the God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble, when you say, Lord, I need something, you know, that, the Lord knows what you need anyway, and as soon as you acknowledge that he's the one that can provide it to you, you know, you've opened up an opportunity and a door that, that you'll never want to close, you know, but as soon as you say, you know, things are going pretty good, you know, I, I can handle my own affairs, I got my own business taken care of, you know, I, I don't see the point in making this big leap. Right. Right. And being the awkward guy who has to go talk to other people about Christ, you know, this seems like a real drag, because I can make regular friends, there's no reason for me to do this, you know. Yeah, yeah. And so, I don't know, like, I don't know, for some reason that made a lot of sense to me on, on, you know, when you're going to talk to somebody, you know, just, just realize where your line is, like, you don't, you're not over there to be the whipping post, you're over there to try to introduce, you know, or just talk to somebody about, you know, the existence of Jesus, you know, and if, if they ain't digging on it, then, you know, whatever, shake the dust and, and out, you know. Right. I mean, that doesn't mean give up directly, like, you walk in and go, hey, Steve, oh, I gotta go, you don't like Jesus, obviously, look at your house. Yes, I'm done with you. But, I don't know, I don't know, I just, I thought a lot about it this week, and, and, I don't know. I think sometimes the hardest people to talk to about Jesus is, is people who, who has, have, have a pretty good life. You know, everything's comfortable, they've got a good job, they've got a good family, they've got, you know, whatever, there's, there's, well, I don't need, what do I need him for?
You know, everything's going good, I'm doing just fine without him. And it's like, maybe right now, I mean, on the surface, you are, but, but, wow, you're sure gonna need him, you know. Yeah, or the people who go to church every week and do, like, the church thing, but don't get it. Like, you can, the way they live their life doesn't reflect, I don't, do you know, I don't know how to say it. Maybe love for God, I mean, there's, we were talking about last week was the obedience thing, you know, showing love for God, is obeying his commands, and then showing up and just doing the church thing, and, and playing the part of someone who's church, but does not, is not obeying God with his lifestyle during the week, is not showing love for God. I think that's the hardest situation, one of them, because they think they're fine, like, oh, I go to church, I'm okay. Yeah. I got my ticket in, but, like, how do you tell, I mean, like, actually. Yeah, well, that's, that's, that is a problem, too, because, I mean, you don't, I mean, because you don't want to be the judgment guy, you know, like, and you're not called to judge people, that's not really your, your deal, you know, now, if it's. But we can. We, well, go ahead. Well, I, I, where is that verse, do you know where that verse is? Yeah, a few weeks ago, in Matthew. Like your brother, sister, five, six. Yeah, I mean, you're not to be the, the role of, of God as judge, but you are to, you are to make judgments so that you can identify places where, where people need help. Like, it's not your job to bow out and say, look, dude, I, I don't judge, you know, your scandalous behavior. You know what I'm saying? Like, dude, you're doing scandalous behavior. We need to talk about this. That's, that's, it's, it's, it's not only a non-judgment, it's responsibility. Yeah. Yeah. Not for the purpose of, ha ha, I caught you. Right. You know, but. Looking out. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Well, and I think that's, maybe, maybe that's the most of the, most of the, the hesitance here is, is the misconception of your motives, you know, and maybe some people's, the way that they, they bring it to fruition, you know, like, I mean, there's a, there's a way to talk to somebody about stuff they got going on. And, I mean, obviously, you know, we talk about this all the time. Everybody, everybody's fails, you know. You know, my lifestyle, I don't think probably correctly represents the Lord's, you know, lifestyle for me, you know, majority of it goes pretty good. But, I mean, there's times, obviously, it's, I would, you know, people will look at me and say that, that man does not know Christ, you know. And so, you know, you can't take, you know, everybody at the, at the, the, the sin is part of their life. But, I mean, on the other hand, I mean, people, people call me to the table about that. I mean, I have an LTG group that does that specifically. The whole point of the group is to say, look, what do you got going on? You know, I want to know what you've been doing this week.
You know, that's, that's, you know, showing other people that you don't have, that you don't have a relationship with Christ. You know, and then we're going to work on it. You know, it's got to get better than that. Yeah, yeah. And, you know, what I found is, and I have friends that, when we're talking about the reaching the unreachable, it's, I feel like I have a really hard time finding an appropriate way to even start a conversation. I feel like I'm doing the disservice by not having the conversation, but I also have a pretty good idea of where they sit or used to. And so, like, I'll even find myself doing things that really just embarrass me. Like, I'm a little looser with my tongue around some of these folks. I do things, you know, I'll laugh at stuff that otherwise I don't really find, you know, appropriate or funny. Like, as if to say, as if I'm trying to smooth the way into the lifestyle. It's like, you know, I follow Christ, but I'm still, yeah. I'm one of you. Yeah, I can still, you know. I can still say bad words. You know, and, like, I found myself, like, noticing that more and more lately where I'm like, what is the deal here? Like, why? And I think the thing is, is because I don't, I don't know any other, I'm trying to avoid the direct, the direct interaction. Yeah. The direct talk. You know, and it doesn't, it's not like, it's not like your God calls you to be creepy and, like, weirded people out and showing up at their door with crosses and Bibles and stuff. Like, it's not what we're talking about. They open the door, you drop them in. Hey, when I, when I was, I first started preaching, this had been in 1984. No. 1953. I guessed 57. Sorry. Yeah, 1984 was my first year. And, um. Hi, I'm the Dan. I know the Lord. Exactly. Do you want to know Jesus? I got all the answers. And it was a little church on the east side on the 27th court in Cleveland. All right. Remember that one? A little white one. Uh-huh. You're familiar with it. And, um, you know, everything changes through time.
But, but, you know, back in the 50s, you just knocked on doors and said, hey, do you know Jesus? And, uh, so I was, I was a young buck and I thought, I'm just going to go through this neighborhood and knock on everybody's door. You know, and we, we had all these days picked out and some friends and I, we went, you know, door to door knocking on these total strangers' houses. And, hey, can we talk to you about Jesus? And they're like, no. You know? All right then. Well, thank you. Direct question, direct answer. And it didn't take long to go, man, that is stupid. Who ever did that? You know? And, you know, it works for the Mormons. Why can't it work for us? You know? And then, you know, well, it works 1% for the Mormons. And back then, I don't know what the current statistics are. So, you know, they keep going at it and they have, you know, a million knocks a year from all their missionaries out there than, you know, 100,000 people. You're going to find somebody, huh? Yeah, I mean, 1% is going to, 100,000, 1% or 1 million? Did I do my decimal? No, that's 10%. 1,000. Yeah, 1,000. 1,000. So, you grow by 1,000 every million door knocks. And I don't know how many people they have. I don't know. You know, pretty good odds for, I mean, just throwing it out there, but isn't it better if it caught the 1,000? Casting a wide net, I'd say. So, you know, we took, you know, other approaches. I was a hospice chaplain in Cass County. And the whole reason I did that was because I thought, you know, people are getting near the end of their life. Who more would want Jesus than the person who is facing death saying, wow, what if everything I believed in the past isn't true?
Right. You know, and I was going to just save the whole world. And it was going to be the greatest thing in the world. I was just going to walk in their door and brighten their day and say, you know what, you're about to meet your maker, you know, and let me introduce you to them. And, I mean, it wasn't quite that harsh with them, but I learned pretty quick people die the way they live. Yeah. Unless they have a real heart change. I mean, I'd come in and say, you know, and have great conversations with them. And they were just like, you know, I didn't need God before. I don't need him now. And that would totally break my heart. I just left depressed. I did that for several years, actually. And finally, I backed out of it. You know, I'm not helping anybody. There's a few believers who I'm helping, but they already had pastors. Right. What did they meet me for? And I was trying to reach the person who just didn't know. And they were just like, no, not interested. Well, you know, actually, there was a guy who, he's a fairly renowned atheist, Hitchens. And he got diagnosed with cancer. And he was talking about people were expecting him to kind of flip his life. You know, well, I'm dying now. And so they would send him, I should say, we're praying for you. And, you know, expect him to kind of change his way completely. And he goes, he basically gave that same sentiment. He goes, you know, oh, yeah, now at the end of my life, I'm going to decide that everything I've lived for is not worth anything. And I go, I mean, obviously, I think he's got the wrong perspective. His whole life has had the wrong perspective. However, like, I think it's a pretty, it's a pretty consistent thing with people is like they feel, there's no reason to abandon the life that I knowingly chose just because I'm on the outs.
Right. When I was in right mind and I was in good shape, that's this life that I chose, you know, now that I'm frail and I'm not thinking correctly, you know, who am I to say, man, I made some bad decisions. And I think there's two things to that. I think people make that decision, one, because at the end of your days, who wants to admit to being wrong? Like, I think there's a barrier of, you know, would you call that pride? Yeah. I took this whole time and now I have to flip and say, you know, I would think even at that position, I could see it going through someone's mind to think, you know, if there is a God, what kind of weasel am I? I spent my whole life running from him saying, look, screw you. And then now, now that I'm on my deathbed, I'm like, okay, now I believe in you. Go ahead and just let me into this deal. And I wonder how many of them, of the people I had talked to, that went through my mind is like, okay, some of these were in their sixties or seventies. I wonder how many of them 50 years earlier thought to themselves, well, I'll wait till I'm about ready to die. Yeah. You know, and then I'll give my life to Jesus. And after 50 years of not living for Jesus, they were like, eh, don't need it. You know, and I hope there's some who do change, but that was just my experience with, with that small little speck of, you know, Cass County. Which I think, like that whole thing then, the point is, is that it's, if you do die how you live, that's why it's important to, to have the conversations with people while they live. You know, so, you know, maybe you wouldn't have had a difference with this guy. Maybe not. He'd be like, you are a freak.
Yeah. You know? Yeah. Well, it's completely possible. Maybe I should have had the conversation 10 years ago when I met him. What's wrong with you? You know, maybe, maybe that's the key, you know, wait until the most awkward, you know, most awful time to bring it up. You know, I did the same thing with my neighbor. You know, I've had plenty of opportunities to have conversations and she's getting toward the end. And I'm thinking, well, I should at least have the conversation. You know, she may be okay. She may not. I don't know. You know, and I kept thinking, well, if I could just get everybody away so I could talk to her privately, I was all prepared. And it's like, well, maybe they need to hear it too. I don't know. But I didn't. I just didn't. I just kept thinking. I kept waiting for that right time. Yeah. And, you know, when someone is dying, I mean, that right time is now. Right. I mean, you know. So do they all think they're going to heaven, you think? Because I know a lot of people, anytime someone dies, oh, they're in a better place.
Yeah, they're in a much better place. I'm not the person to make the judgment, but it's a narrow path. So I don't. It's a narrow. Yeah. Do they think they're okay? Like, they might not understand. I don't know. Most people see themselves as good people. Yeah. And they assume, well, good people must go to heaven. And having not read the book where they find out that's not true, they're probably quite surprised. They breathe their last. Yeah, well, and that's, I mean, that's a tough conversation to have with anybody anyway. You know, and so, but I mean, it's a necessary conversation. Yeah. Definitely. Yeah. You can listen to Life in the Path on Des Moines Amplified.com. You know, a good reference, if, you know, if you're listening and you have, I don't know, maybe you're the person someone should talk to.
If you feel like you're in that position, one of the things I would do, not I'm just trying to show you off and have you watch other programs of ours, but we did do a show a few weeks back called Where to Start about someone who is, you know, if you're interested in God and you're Christ curious, but you just don't know where to begin. You know, there's a lot of, if you type something into the, you know, if you type something into the internet, you're going to get a lot of stuff. I can't vouch for that. I can't really vouch. I mean, our stuff is just us talking and trying to remain as biblical as possible, but I don't know. I thought that that show does lay some basic foundations of, you know, how do I start a relationship with God? What is it to pray? You know, you know, how do I, what should I look for in a church? That kind of stuff. So,
you know, I meant to, at some point I will cut all that stuff up so you can watch it individually, but at this point you're going to have to watch the whole show. So, if you go to the website and click on the link up at the top that says Archive Shows, it'll take you there and you just look for the show title, Where Do I Start? and you can check that out. So, it's a, whatever, you can listen to the courtesy on your home, you don't have to have an awkward conversation with anybody. Although Mike likes, Mike might be coming. Yeah, if you want to have an awkward conversation, apparently I'm in the, I'm in the credit of some, so debit me, get me back to zero. Here's the deal though, for the believer who's, feels God is really putting, you know, tugging on their heart,
boy, you should talk to so-and-so, here's the deal, all we're accountable for is just putting it out there, you know, so many to see it, as Jesus said, you know, of the gospel, is sharing your faith. You're not responsible for if they say yes or no, you're not responsible to have every answer to every question, you just say what you know and let God take care of the rest and that's where we intimidate ourselves sometimes, what if I don't know everything? Well, you know what everything God wants you to know, you know, they're calling you to this person for, he's calling you to this person for a reason, you know, just go with it and it might be a total, whatever, laugh in your face, rejection, or it could be just planting a seed, but later on someone else will say something and all of a sudden
it clicks and they go, oh, you know, and that's how it was for me, it was several people, it wasn't just that one conversation where someone sat down with a pamphlet and said, here's Jesus, you know, and I'm like, all right, you know. No kidding, he looks awesome. I was waiting for this. He usually has a series of conversations with different people and God puts them in your path at the right time. Here he is, here's a picture of a lamb next to him, that's you. You're the pretty lamb. See the little one on fire, that could be you. Now wait later, he's the lamb. Catch the metaphor, catch the metaphor. Real quick, coming up next week, things to be looking out for, Candy for Nickels will be in the studio. They're a band, they will,
you can catch them, just do a Google search for Candy for Nickels, I think, if you go to Candy and then the numeral for Nickels.com, it'll write you to their website. They're a local band here. They will be playing at the House of Bricks on December 1st with Syndrome of Fire, who's been on the show before. You can check for them on livefromthepath.org. But anyway, Candy for Nickels will be on next week, so make sure to come in and check for that. They'll be playing a few tunes. You want to go to that show, Daniel? I think we're going to go. Yeah, I think we are going to go to the House of Bricks. Check your, check my, December 1st. December 1st? It's a Wednesday. Also, real quick, and we don't really talk about this very often, but I did want to say a pretty big thank you to the guys here
at Des Moines Amplified. Thanks. You don't know this, but it doesn't cost us anything to come here and do our show. They just allow us to come in here and do this. Except for they make us eat our own beards. It's terrible. That's how I got this way. That's why mine's clean now. To Dwayne, Brett, and John, thank you very much for letting us come in here. I do appreciate that. One of the ways you can help out Des Moines Amplified as a whole, if you go to the website, there's a tab at the top called Amplified Cash, and it's a pretty cool deal. Businesses will go out there and allow verbal coupons, so no cutting out coupons and stuff, having to take them in. You basically show up to one of these participating businesses and you say, I want to use Amplified Cash, and you get like, whatever. Can you say it
with some sass? I wouldn't say I want to do nothing. I would just walk in and go, Amplified Cash. Amplified Cash. And just wait. Wait for the fireworks to happen. The balloons to come out. So anyway, if you go out there, right now there's businesses out there. I took a look. I'm not sure I would use any of the services that are currently out there, but like, you know, whatever. You can go check it out and see if there's anything where you only have to, you don't have to pay your money. Yeah, you know what? Just go to your everyday businesses and start saying it, and then they'll wonder what it is and Google it, and then they'll be in. Yeah. Just go to your Starbucks and go, Mocha Latte, Amplified Cash. Amplified. Amplified. Actually, they really should get something that you can put like
an apostrophe if you have like Amplified. Zam. Not Zam. Something like that. Definitely not. Daniel likes Zam. She was laughing. Or laughing at me. One or the other. Yeah. Well, I was just picturing it with the hands, too. You gotta mix it both. Yeah. Amplified Cash, jazz hands. Zam. Zam. I don't think Zam's the way to go. Something on. Anyway. Here it is. Okay, ready? As promised, this is the next episode of Tales from the Path. I can't wait. Where's the popcorn? For your listening enjoyment, please have a listen to Tales from the Path presents Dan the Dunce. Dan the Dunce. Originally written by Hans Christian Andersen. Performed by Life in the Path. Once upon a time, there was a princess.
She was bored, so she decided to get married. But my husband must be clever and amusing. She said. I will test each shooter as he comes. So the news was given out by the herald to the whole country. The cleverest and most amusing people need apply. Far out in the country, there lived an old count. He had two sons who were the cleverest men for miles around. The count also had a third son. Nobody thought he was clever and they called him Dan the Dunce. Oh. The two clever sons decided to become suitors for the princess and began to prepare for the test. The first clever son read lots of books in Latin and learned them backwards, too. He also read all the local newspapers for the past three years. The second clever son read lots of books on law and learned some jokes as well. Knock, knock.
There's no one here. They dressed up in their finest clothes. They even oiled their mouths to make them speak more smoothly. The old count gave them splendid horses to ride and gifts to take with them. Everybody came to watch them go. I went to go, too, cried Dan the Dunce. All of a sudden, I feel like getting married. I want to marry the princess. Nonsense, said the count. You aren't clever enough. I won't give you a horse or gifts to take. Never mind, laughed Dan. I shall go by Billy Goat. And off he trotted, singing the song. Soon he met his clever brothers on the road. Here I am, he called, and look what I found for the princess. He showed them a dead crow, an old clog, and a pocket full of mud. You are not clever or amusing,
sneered the clever sons and rode on ahead. They arrived at the palace gates an hour before Dan got there. The princess saw her many suitors in the palace hall. In the corner by a hot stove were three important people. They wrote down every word the suitors said. But the princess was bored by all of them. No good, she said every time. Out! Now was the turn of the first clever son. But he was so frightened that he forgot every word of Latin, even backwards. All he could say was, It is hot in here. No good, said the princess. Out! The second clever son was just as frightened. He forgot all about the law and all his jokes. It is very hot in here, was all he said. And the three important people wrote down every word. Then Dan the dunce wrote in on his billy goat. And the princess smiled. I like that nice hot stove, said Dan. I'll roast a royal chicken in it just for you. And he pulled out the dead crow.
The princess laughed. But we have no cooking pots. Here is just the thing, said Dan. And he showed her the old clog. And here is a little gravy, he said, opening his pocket full of mud. The princess laughed out loud. You know that every word is being written down by these important people. She wanted to see if she could frighten Dan. But Dan was not frightened at all. If they are so important, they should have the best, he said. And he threw the mud right at them. It stinks. It stinks. It's gooey. It stinks. Cried the princess. You are clever and amusing. You pass the test and I shall marry you. So Dan the Dunst married the princess and he soon became Dan the King. I'm the king. And the princess was never born again. The end. Thanks for listening. That was Tales from the Path. Dan the Dunst
from Live from the Path. Nice work, Dan. Proud. Very proud. What is it? Good? Olsen liked it? Oh, very good. Thanks, Olsen. He just likes the banjo. Well, whatever. That was me. Whatever rules him in. Thank you. Like Danielle in the banjo. I'm sorry. You know what? Some people you just can't please. That's the second. I think… Never mind. How long is this? That was in the very beginning they were asking. Oh. I thought it was a harassment of how it went on way too long. That might be the person who left. Oh, very good. Well, thank you. Thank you, Olsen. Anyway, that is now… I will make that a… It's been a private video on the YouTube. Now you can go check it out. I will make it public so you're free to go out and view,
share it with your friends. You can also check out Live from the Path's rendition of Caps for Sale, which is also out there. Looking good, feeling good. You monkeys, you. You like that one better, Mike? I like that. It's catchy. I think the Day in the Death is pretty hip. Of course, I like the banjo. I like that. I like that. Yeah, you know, actually, that song is pretty rocking to you in there. Yeah, I'm feeling you like it. I like Mike oiling his lips. That's gross. Indeed. Anyway, you can look… You can look forward to another segment of Tales from the Path. That will be two weeks from today. And I'm not going to tell you what the story is because I haven't decided on it yet, but we'll be working on it after the show tonight. So it's going to be great. Yeah. Okay, so here it is. Here's Awkward Moments. Hold on. Hans Christian Danderson.
That's funny. Ben, that's extremely clever. All right, Mike. Go ahead. Okay. So our first installment of Awkward Moments in the Bible. This comes at a very serious point in the Bible. As you know, so the Lord, Jesus is sitting down to have the Last Supper with the disciple. And here's the setup. I'll give you a setup and when I start pausing and giggling, that's when the awkward part comes in. And Danielle will go ahead and flag when it's awkward. Yes. Yeah. We didn't practice this ahead of time, so be ready. Yeah. When the evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the twelve. And while they were eating, he said, I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me. They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, Surely not I, Lord. And Jesus replied, The one who has dipped his hand
into the bowl with me will betray me. The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man. It would be better for him if he had not been born. And then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, Surely not I, Rabbi. And Jesus answered, Yes, it is you. So, here's the setup. Everyone's having a jovial meal, whatever. It's coming down to the brass tacks of when the Lord's going to be going to it. And everyone says, and the Lord says, Look, one of you is going to betray me. And everyone goes, No, no, Lord, not us. And then old Judas comes rolling in who's sitting down eating, eating, listens to the whole thing go down, and then he decides he's going to pipe up to try to defend his guiltiness. He says, Well, surely not I, Lord. And he goes to eat. And the Lord goes,
Yeah, you're the guy. It's pretty much you. So then, where does that leave Judas? And the following verse is, While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks, and broke it. So it doesn't say whether Judas awkwardly just continued to eat after being fingered as the guy, or whether he kind of looked around for a minute and kind of left the room. I would assume I'd leave. The sad thing is, I mean, he'd already made the negotiation. You know, I mean, it's like, it wasn't a surprise. I mean, Judas is like, Well, surely not me. I mean, and yeah. Yeah, whatever. He made it awkward for himself. Exactly. Wouldn't it be awkward to be the other disciples to listen to Judas go, to hear Jesus go, Yeah,
you're the guy. And the other disciples go, Oh, man. Oh, man. It's not going to end well for Judas. It was Judas. Quiet, John. Just keep eating your soup. Don't look over there. It didn't like you didn't hear it. You know, like when your brother gets in trouble when you were younger and you're like, Oh. Just don't look over there. I don't want to see it. I wonder, who's the disciple I can never remember? This guy's got a long name. Thaddeus. Is Thaddeus a disciple? I thought it wouldn't be a T. Anyway, I bet he's hard of hearing. Judas. Do you know? Judas goes, or Jesus goes, Yeah, you're the guy. What is that? What did he say? Did he say it was Judas? No kidding. What did he say, Martha? You best be going,
huh, Judas? Boy, that'd just be, that'd be the most awkward deal. Someone of you is going to have me crucified. Yeah, it's you. Oh, all right. It is me. Now, when you say you, what exactly do you mean? Man, I just, I don't think, I would not want to be a fly in the wall in that room. I'd do the awkward, like, I'm, I'm going to, I'm going to go. I'm going to go. I mean, Judas is a fairly common name these times. Are you sure you don't, you didn't mean, could be another guy. Judas Biscariot. He's cleaning the floors. I think it's of Iscariot. No. Judas Iscariot. Yeah, but isn't that where he's from? Maybe not.
I don't know my geography. We've known better to stay. I'm pretty sure it'd be better to bring it up if you don't know anything. Fair enough. It's just Judas Iscariot. Okay, fair enough. All right. Indeed. All right. I don't know. Dan, didn't you have one? You got something awkward going on? You know, the Bible is filled with all kinds of awkward moments. And there's so many truths about it. I don't, boy, which one? Do the fat guy. Talk about the fat man. Okay, okay. The other ones are a bit, they're a bit strong. Some of these are pretty strong. I had to reread this one today. It's in Judges 3 and because I kind of remembered it a little bit differently than it was. I just remember kind of the ending. There's this king and he's really large. I mean like really, really. He's a fat guy.
Let's just say he wouldn't fit into Rodney's shirt over here that you're wearing. Very, very, very large guy. And there's another dude who thinks, you know, maybe the king's been around too long. So he sneaks into his chambers and it says he has a double-edged sword about a foot and a half long. Okay, so, you know, got an 18-inch blade on his sword. And he confronts the king. He stabs the king in the gut where it comes out the back. So he's like gone all the way through. But he's so fat that the fat hides the sword. Okay, so you look at the king and you're like going, well, you wouldn't see anything sticking out. And the awkward part to me is like, okay, the attendants, whatever, whether the servant people, the kings, they're like, man, the king hasn't been out for a while.
Because then the guy, you know, looked at the king's door and they're like, what do you do? And they all assume he's going to the bathroom. And that's the awkward part. What do you do? How do you go disturb the king when he's, you know, relieving himself? Right. And then how awkward that would be to actually finally go in there and then to see him and not know he's dead and then realize there's like a… Like he's falling asleep on the job. Yeah. Wow, he must really had a big job there. He went out Elvis style or whatever. You know, that would be kind of hard to knock on the door. I mean, the king's got some business and you're going, uh, king? You know, if he's doing well, he's going to go, go away.
Occupied. I mean, this is how it says it. Servants came and found the doors of the upper room locked. They said he must be relieving himself in the inner room of the house. They waited to the point of embarrassment. But he did not open the doors of the room. I guess, technicality time out. What's the point of embarrassment? How long would you wait? Some guy says he's going to be in the john. How long would you wait? Daniel, you go first. I was waiting for the awkward. Awkward. Yeah, how long do you wait? That's a good question. 20 minutes. Maybe he's, you know, reading the sports page. I'm going to, I don't want to retell any stories here, but I would say at least 45 minutes. That's when you know it could be embarrassing. Wait, my, oh, am I remembering correctly
the run-in you had at the guy at the bathroom in the Home Depot or somewhere? The Lowe's or something? What do you mean? Like the guy that needed help? What do you mean guy? Dan, do you remember that story? Remember I was telling a story about a guy that needed help? Or like he said, or he said he was alright. Like he was making a ruckus in there and he's like, no, I'm alright. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh yeah! You know, I, I don't know. That's a fairly personal activity. You know, I don't like to lend a hand. I don't know. I don't know how else to say it. I think 45 minutes is where you go, uh, Billy? Everything cool in there? What if he says,
yeah, I'm fine? Like at what point do you go check things out? I mean, he's the king. You don't, you don't need to write to him. If he's still talking, he's fine. He could have your head. Yeah, if he's still, hey, I got business. If his mouth is still running, he's fine. I wouldn't go in there. You gotta wait at least an hour. You know why? Because it's a locked door. So now you're gonna have to Jackie Chan your way in there. You give this door a boot and you make a grand entrance into a dude on the pot. Well, it says they went and got a key and then locked it. I mean, and here's, okay, not to get too graphic here, but, but you know, when usually when someone passes, the, their muscles relax and they pass whatever they got going on. And so they could have even
maybe smelled something like, you know, oh, King, dude. You could have smelled something. You got something going. You got a, you got a big job going on there. Well, even more of a key to leave him alone. I know. So, so, waded to the point of embarrassment and I'd like to see the, I'd like to see the definition of point of embarrassment. Yeah. I'd really, I'd really like to know. What if someone was easily embarrassed? Let's see. The oldest known lock was found by archaeologists in Korsabad Palace Ruins near Nineveh. The lock was estimated to be 4,000 years old. It could have been his. It could have been his. Yeah. That's the one they found. That was probably the one. The one on, on the, on the King's John. Actually, that reminds me of another story which I, which I thought was,
was awkward. And that was when David was hiding in the cave and he was going to kill King Saul when he was in there using the bathroom. I mean, so the, Oh yeah, the cave. Yeah, the king takes a break, heads into the cave to do his business and like David's in there. And Saul doesn't know it. Yeah, Saul doesn't know it. And David, you know, could have killed him and instead takes his, whatever he took, he cut off a part of his tunic? Yeah, yeah, yeah. He took off a part of his cloak or whatever. Yeah, yeah, But that also would have been pretty awkward. Like you're just hanging out in the cave and all of a sudden the king who's after you comes in and instead of like, you know, searching for you
and grabbing you, he drops trow starts going to the bathroom. What's he doing? I think there'd be a lot of things going on in your head like one, oh come on man, not in the cave. You know, I'm in here. And secondly, how would you like to be the guy, there's another dude in there businessing and you're leaning over with some scissors or something taking a piece of soap. To cut a piece of his tunic off, you know? Yeah. What happens if you don't grab it in time and it falls and then you gotta do it again? My thought is why would you go into a cave do your business? I mean, I'd be afraid there might be an animal in there. I mean, you know. Private,
privacy. I get the privacy. But you know, he's the king. You think surely they have like a king bathroom tent or something. I would, you know, set up my bathroom tent and then he could do his thing. I would think not. I don't know. Yeah, well you think they'd carry a tent around especially for the king to use as a bathroom? If I was the king they would. Well, it really only has to I'm not gonna go into a cave. It only has to be a four by four or whatever, a four sided enclosure and then when he's done they just lift up the tent and haul out. Okay. It could be an antelope droppings. What do people know? Sure, exactly. It's a glorified
port-a-potty. Exactly. And if you're the king you can have people who clean up your mess. I would leave it there if I was the king. I'd want them to do it just because I'm the king. I'd say I was here. Hey, you know what? I want you to clean up my mess. I'm sure people would enjoy your reign off with your head. Everybody loves Dan. I'm running for president. Did you know that? I do have a place on Facebook, Dan Hudson 2012. What is it? Dan Hudson for president 2012. Do you really? Yeah. Okay. I need to put a picture on it. I'm gonna go visit it. That sounds awesome. There's nothing on it. Oh. Just me and one other guy. You want me to like it? I better look. Yeah, you should like it. I want to see if I can actually accidentally become president.
I'll write you in. I don't think that's going to win the vote. You might be taking legitimate votes away from legitimate candidates. I kind of thought about actually putting a platform on there that would be like really radical and people wouldn't like it which, you know, that'd make it all the more fun. I don't know what to make of it. You've been listening to Life in the Path on Des MoinesAmplified.com. Thanks for being with us so far tonight. Like Mike said earlier in the show, we do have a phone number you can get a hold of us at 515-327-1007. It's 515-327-1007. What are you laughing at? It's Dan Hudson for President 2012. Are you laughing at your own website? Yes, I am. It's on Facebook. That doesn't make it any more funny. I know. I've only got two members. I need help. Requesting to join right now.
Are you? Nice. You're on the air with Life in the Path. Go ahead. Dan steaks. Dan steaks. You're wrong. I was just checking to see the phone number. It does. I was very excited there for a moment. Did anybody call the church office last week to listen to your effeminate message? You know, I didn't check to see if there were missed calls or anything. There were no messages. I was interested. Yeah, thanks. Okay. By the way, the Dan Hudson for President 2012 now has three members. Did you create three separate Facebook identities to membership your own? Daniel, I just gave the number like twice. Where were you at 10, 15 seconds ago? 515-327-1007. 515-327-1007.
Okay, very good. Sleeping. Very nice. Cordial. Thanks for joining. Indeed. Okay, just another heads up for next week. Something that we're going to give a shot. We're going to do Name That Tune The Jesus Edition. Are we going to do it next week? Yeah, we're going to do it next week. I thought we were going to do it this week. No, no. No, it's going to be next week. So here's the deal. There's a ton of secular tunes that reference Jesus. So we're going to pick a set of clips. I'm going to play you just the Jesus portion of the tune. Okay, so you might be getting a half a second of however long it takes them to say Jesus. Okay, and then you need to tell me what the tune is. Okay, so I'm going
to give you a whole set of tunes. You can write them down and then we're going to listen to one by one and we'll see how well you did. So that's next week. Name that tune, Jesus Edition. Prepare to fail miserably, Daniel. Dan, I'm ready. Dan, you better. I'm ready. These are mostly like classic rock tunes so you better prepare. Not even classic rock. You might be all right, huh? When you say classic rock, you mean second chapter of Acts. Yes. Amy Grant. Striper, things of that nature, yes. Definitely. ECW. Mike, you remember them guys? Oh yeah, they're breaking down the walls of Satan. Yeah. We saw them in concert. ETW. Yeah. In Time Warriors. That's what it was.
Breaking down the walls of Satan. They're like new kids of the block of Christian rap. Yeah. Back in the mid-80s. Hey, so this week me and Mike decided that we were going to try to exploit our illegitimate press position. So I applied for press passes to the Winter Jam concert. Yeah. coming up in January. I think that'd be hot. Yeah. I'm good. I'm in. I'm sorry. You think that'd be what? I think that would be hot. I don't know why hot came out. Is it Paris Hilton? That's hot. You have to amend the submission. That's what I said I don't even know what came out of my mouth. I just spoke.
I was thinking about my presidency. Sorry. Your campaign slogan? I'm hot. Daniel Hudson 2012. That's hot. That's hot. I think that'd be hot. That's going to be the buttons everywhere. That's hot. What's hot? Dan Hudson. Dan Hudson. Running mate? Nope. Doesn't need one. Definitely not. Awkward. Awkward. You better bein. Awkward. I'm so behind. You better bring it up. If the man in the purple shirt is grabbing it before you that's embarrassing. Anyway. So we'll see what happens. I'm not sure whether this is going to come through or not. Of course it's going to come through. We're live from the
past. I think it should. Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven. We will have a press pass in heaven. Yes. Get it done. So I was trying to decide what we do with this press pass. Because I figured that I'd get it. Let's say they give it to us. They have benevolence on the life from the path folks. They think it'd be funny. So they give us these press passes. And I want to use it legitimately because I don't want to be three dudes that just show up and kind of bumble around the backstage and don't do anything decent. We're going to interview people. So let's say you run because one of the guys, David Crowder's there this year. I'm up to four. Four? Dog on it. That's hot. It is hot.
Were you saying something? I'm sorry because I'm running my campaign. I'm going to announce my campaign. So I was trying to think of what I would I don't know what to ask anybody. What makes a good interview? Every question I could think of seems stupid. I obviously don't know. Dan, are you two of the members? Olsen says that you're two of the members on your own page, Dan. Say that. I'm only one. Olsen said you're two. Who's two? I'm me. He says two of the members are Dan himself. Wait, did you like your own thing? I might have liked me. Dan Hudson for 2012. I like me. Okay. Where's the that's hot button? Who's the gumball guy? Oh, I guess I'll just like it. Are you some kind of alternate gumball man?
I might be. You gotta be kidding me. You two bit phony. Sometimes I will comment on my own status. That's awesome. It's me. Are you a Ford gumball guy? I am. Are you serious? Yes. You gotta be kidding me. That's embarrassing. So every once in a while if you see a Ford gumball guy say something really nice about me on my status, it was me. Embarrassment. I thought that guy was fishing. I thought, who is this dude? He's a yes man if I've ever seen one. He always loves what Daniel has to say. He's not a true friend. Wow. Oh, man. So anyway, the question is, maybe not so much what makes a good interview for the public to listen to, but what makes a good interview for the guy being interviewed? Yeah. Like, how do you conduct
an interview where David Crowder will like us? When he's actually interested, not like, these are going to be We need some help. We need to be like them, fellas. Ask him what hair, like what gel he uses in his hair. Ask him if he'd eat his beard. Yeah. That's a creepy beard. That is a creepy beard. I shouldn't say creepy, not if we're going to interview him. That's a cool, that's a hot beard. That's hot. So we just like three dudes decided you have a creepy beard, and the question is, would you eat it? What do you think it tastes like? Oh, yeah. By the way, how's your ministry going? I don't know how Double O knows that I'm a gumball guy. I don't know, he can put two and two together. Olsen's a pretty sharp guy. I didn't put two and
two together. Olsen. That doesn't say much for you or against Olsen. And I notice Olsen hasn't added himself to the group. He's holding out. He's going to wait until, I'm pretty sure he's going to wait for a long time. That's what you would start with? Is your problem? Actually, that is awesome. Hi, I'm Ben Foost from Live from the Five. David Carter, what's your deal? What's your problem? Yeah. So what's this about? Actually, that's a good, something ambiguous, but people feel like they have to respond. So like, hey, what's this about? What's going on here? Okay, we'll play Devil in the Other game. I will be David Carter. You interview me. Okay.
All right. Wait, you're David Carter? Yeah. You're Ben Foost. Okay. Who am I? I'm ready. Hold on. Hey, David. This has been Foost from Live from the Path. Hey, guys. How's it going? Well, we're doing pretty good. Hey, what's this about? What do you mean, what's this about? No, seriously. I mean, what's going on here? David Carter. You called me. What is your problem? Yeah, this is going to go great. Okay. Vague, vague, accusatory questions. See me, what's going to carry the day? I can't wait. Call him up. David, this is Mike from Live from the Path. What's your deal?
Yeah. Okay. What's a follow-up? What do you mean, what's a follow-up? I say, what's your problem? And then what do you say? You're David Crowder. What do you say? I say, nothing, man. Life's just going. It's going great. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Seriously, though. What's going on? Well, we're playing the Winter Jam coming up here in February. It should be an awesome show. We've got 10, 15 bands lined up, and it's pretty awesome. Seriously? Do you always avoid questions like this? I asked you what your problem is. What does that have to do with the Winter Jam? I'd say we don't really have a problem. The only problem is there's so many people there that
praise the Lord and whatever. Would you marry your cousin? What's the problem? Got daddy issues? Come on, Crowder. Yeah, this is going to go awesome. On a second note, yeah, what's up? I like your merchandise. Thank you. I'm really impressed with your music. Yeah, great. It really sings to me. What did you say your name was? Do you ever make any Crowder chowder? Some sort of. My Lord's going to want an ass for your association. Okay, that's a good one. Why are you being so defensive? Because you're asking me accusatory questions. Come on, daddy. You'll keep up. Come on. Why do you allow such long spaces in your awkward interviews? I allow Jesus
to fill my heart with time. I'll praise him through the storm. Awkward. Peace, I'm out. Awkward. Peace, I'm out. Left and the back. Yeah, 10 minutes. Thanks, David. Okay. All right, we shouldn't be interviewing the main dudes. No, no, we need low-rank guys. Maybe we should ask his drummer somebody. Okay, I'll be the drummer guy. Let's give some love to him. Hey, David Crowder drummer. Hey, what's up? We should probably learn his name, right? Yo, dude! What's up? Are you ready for me? That's hot. DC band. Maybe we should start just with the roadies, you know? Yeah.
What do you guys do? How does he like to fold his chords? I mean, do you have a special way? Do you do two loops? How many loops? Yeah. Yeah, that's unless you're in a union, that's not really something we talk about with you guys. You're on with Life of the Path. Go ahead. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. What's your problem? No problem. Every time I ask you that question, you know, it ends up in a big confrontation by the time we're done. Who's this guy? I don't like this guy. This caller has a problem. Let's get down on the table right now. Let's discuss it before there's
any more hostility between us. Hey, how tall are you? Six foot five. That's too tall. with anything? You're totally avoiding the what you're doing right now. How come Danielle never talks on the phone? I never hear Danielle talk at all on this whole show except stay there. You're too tall. Danielle, if she wants to be on viral video, she's more than talks. Have an active part. That would probably help, yeah. We could use a female on the show, by the way. If she's not doing anything Saturday night. Hey, what
time did you say your show was on, Giant? 10. 10. 15 in the p.m. We'd be going until like 1 a.m. Hey, so you measured your success on how long you stay on the air? How long you stay awake? Well, we haven't fallen asleep. I guess it's good. We add the number of people each hour. So we have 10 for the first hour, 10 for the second hour, 10 for the third hour, and we have 30 people watch. Yeah, that sounds about accurate. That's pretty good math, yeah. That's how we
roll. Hey, I was actually watching that show, and I came up with a pretty solid joke that I was happy Oh, break it down for me. Okay, so, oh, I see you weren't paying attention. Yeah, you got all of a sudden you got my attention. Okay, all right, so the joke is, ready, so why doesn't a giraffe play hide-and-seek? Because he's always spotted. I thought of that one on my own, I mean, on the fly. That's right. Thanks, Allison. That's right. I like Allison, she's supportive. But probably just as lame as David's are, so many times with those jokes, one more time and he's gone. So he didn't do anything on
the last show. Okay, yeah, that's good, yeah. Hey, Cassidy. What's up? Why aren't you supporting me for president? I now have a picture on my page. I don't know, I just don't like the platform really yet. You haven't really convinced me. Are you working on your Facebook page on the show? Yes. You know what? This is going to go big. We might as well just fund your campaign. This will go viral right here. A couple bucks. This is better than viral video. Hey, real quick. What's your problem? What is your problem? Exactly. I'll tell you what my problem is,
Dan Hudson. My problem is you're not part of my campaign yet. I'll make you an administrator of my group. That's a mistake. I'll do a trade offer. You'll be on the show and I will support you. You're on the show. You're dominating the show right now. And goodbye. You can be my running mate. That's the way to stick to your guns, Daniel. And goodbye. By the way, we're not done yet. Zam. Hippify. Cassidy, you're still there? I'm still here. Oh, bummer. All right. Still at four members. All right, Dan, no more politicking. You're out. You're going to catch viral video
show with Matt Cassidy and David there on Saturday nights on Des Moines Employee.com at 1015 until whenever you're willing to give up. Because frankly, I'm pretty sure he'll stay on as long as you're willing to stay on. Is that why you weren't in church Sunday? Baptism, believe it or not. Yeah. Early morning baptism. Early morning baptism. Jesus didn't get baptized in the morning. That water's cold in the morning, I'll tell you that much. All right. No doubt. All right. By the way, tell Danielle she's more than welcome to join this Saturday night. He's insisting that you join him, Danielle. Can you make it? Viral video. Can you make it?
Let me think about it. Yeah. Tell him you plan on getting in some kind of pedestrian accident and you probably can't make it. I might get my appendix out that day. Bummer. Sorry, Matt. No, it's like viral video. Boy, that appendix thing, that sounds rough. That sounds dangerous. Viral? Olsen recognizes the sidestepping from ladies and he says, that's a no. It's a one-time shot. Danielle, I'll just let you know, we'll let you talk. We want you to talk. We support you talking the entire time if you want. Take over the show. We don't care. How does anyone have time when you talk? I find that real hard to believe, Cassidy. I find it real hard to believe. Hey, we'll go until two or three in the
morning. I don't care. Whatever she wants to do. Yeah, that's what's going to happen. Cassidy will talk for three hours straight and then he'll rub his eyes and go, well, you can say a couple words if you want before we get out of here. Looks like we're done. Wait, didn't you bring sunglasses to wear? Well, then you're not on. Viral video. All right, Mr. Cassidy, have a good night. Hey, have you emailed me my PowerPoint yet? Dan, you're speaking at Kiwanis tomorrow morning. Can you conduct your business outside of the show for heaven's sake? Every time. Every time we have someone on the phone, you talk about something that has nothing to do It's in six hours. All right. I love you, Matt. Goodbye, Cassidy. Peace out. Bye. Daniel, every time.
We're going to have to talk about some ground rules. No politicking on the show. No conducting your personal business. Hey, remember that time we went to Bonanza's? I really enjoyed the chicken fried steak. Remember that time we went to Long John's? Chicken fried steak. I don't know how you fry chicken in a steak, but I love it. You still got that sweater of mine? Man. You guys are just mean. Awkward. We haven't even talked about how you got your shirt buttoned all the way up to the top button. I don't, do I? No, the top one's not. It's not going to make it. I'm just saying, it looks like it'd be a little tight. I've got plenty of room. I've got a few of those.
Hey, who's Allison Runner? She wants to be my friend. Do it, Allison. Don't do it. No, don't do it. Allison Runner, it's different. You're being Shanghai. We have no friends in common. God bless you. You seem like a wonderful woman. You're making a mistake here. I'm going to guess she's porn. She's on the chat, Dan. Not Allison Runner. Is it? No one puts their full name on the chat, Dan. No, it's different. This is Allison Kahn. No, it's not. She says it's her. Really? Oh, is it you? Is that you, Allison? Allison. Dan, you're never going to get anyone to vote for you. You are the worst people person ever. That's why I'm not a doctor.
Will, you're going to die. Someone wants to be my friend. You're porn. Definitely. Why would you say that? What are the odds, like some random pornographer? You know, I get those. I get them like, I mean, okay, I don't know this person, so then I'll get on the seat. You can see there's some photos. I'll be like them in a bikini, and I'm like, okay, I'm pretty sure this isn't really someone, you know, who's legit. And then there's like, here, check out more pictures here. And I'm like, I don't think so. You haven't got those yet? Just a week ago, she's like, oh. Who sent bikini pictures to Dan? No. No. And then you join, and then they're trying to get stuff.
Then they try to get all your friends, and so that's why I'm pretty, Allison, we're friends now. You can't take it back now. Daniel's got, he's on it. Oh, look at those photos. Damn. Man. You guys are just creepy. Oh, yeah, definitely. Yeah, we're definitely creepy. Sure. I don't know what to do. I love you, Allison. I don't know what to do to myself. We're friends now. Okay, Dan. We got it. You have a friend. Dan Hudson, the president, 2012. I'm not voting for Dan. It's going to be totally awkward. So, the thing for the Middle East is, well, are you friends with me on Facebook? We won't have to worry about it, because they'll be afraid they're going to be mad at us or something.
They'll just bomb everything. That's true. I do have a pretty good approach to things. That's a great glass factory. Yeah, they'll say, Dan Hudson, we need some president, Dan. We need some decisions made. Hold on, fellas. Where's my NRA hat? Did you know if you heat that sand up to a certain temperature, it's all glass? Now, hold on. Let me expose some neck, and we're on. And, I'm the Dan. The Dan is here. That's evil. I'm the hot. B'zam! B'zam! All right, you're listening. Hey, man, do you hear Syndrome of Fire's playing in Milwaukee? Milwaukee? Yeah. That's cool. I did see that, yeah. Yeah, they're playing in Chicago, I think, this week. Epica. They're opening for a band called Epica. I don't know if, I don't
remember what they said, but I think it's in the thousands, maybe tens. I think maybe tens. It's a large concert. How cool. Those guys are rocking. So, we had an interview with them. Yeah, yeah. That wasn't awkward. Well, wait a minute. Was it awkward, though? Maybe my part were. Did we ask anything silly? Usually, if I open my mouth, it's not good. I'm pretty sure, Dan. No, that wasn't the one where Dan wanted the ins and outs of the music union. That was a disaster. No, I really wanted to know. It was an honest question. Here's what Dan does when he gets back to Gagecore. No, I might be ignorant here. No, I really am. I really am. I don't know anything about this. There's no agenda here to this question. I might be completely stupid. Then he looks around the room for people to agree with how stupid he is. I might be really awkward here. Right? Right? Are you with me?
Are you with my ignorance? We're going to have to put together a compilation of Dan. I believe there's been at least two interviews where someone goes, I'm not really sure what you're getting at here. I'm not either. Yeah, I don't know. We've got to fill the space. I'm ignorant about this whole thing. Dead air is not good. Just trying to talk. Have a conversation. That was weird. For some reason, I was thinking today, you remember that interview we did with those younger guys on the By It's Right Name? That was also very awkward because they had said something deep and metaphysical. Oh, it was a disaster. Mike and Dan just couldn't pull it together about what was going on. They were trying to talk about how something… A name is like what it really is. We don't call things by the right name. As soon as we know it's right name, then it reveals itself of what it really is. I'm like,
boy, I don't have any idea what you're talking about. This is way out of my… Yeah, so what is this? Yeah. What have you… Dan kept having examples like, so if that railing out there… We're calling it a railing and it's not really a railing. If I call it something else, can I run through it and fall? I remember that I'm falling with you. They were like, who's the creepy old guy? Yeah. What's his deal? He doesn't take enough ephedra. I was trying to think if I had a clip from one of those. So we said… Yeah, I know. I don't have a label. Yeah. Did I mention I'm running for president? I don't know. I don't know what to do with my life, but I don't want to be dealing with how to wrangle Dan Hudson, so I will not be on your campaign. Wait a minute. I already said I would be on your campaign. He did. Like three months ago. I believe you agreed to be on…
You probably are the one to seed the plan I believe it was mayoral campaign. Anything above mayor, you said you would not participate. Yeah. All right. Well, maybe… I don't know. Maybe put this thing back on the rails. I'm going to give you a two-minute clip of us talking about donkeys, and we'll be right back with you. So we can get this deal straightened out. Do we have a booth at your music festival? Oh, sure. What are we going to do at this booth? We're going to sell donkeys. We're going to sell donkeys. Donkeys legs. I thought we were trying to be a leg. Oh, yeah. Okay. Last day of the festival, our inventory starts to get a little low. Hey, man. They switch venues. They cook things now. Those donkeys aren't selling well. Nothing goes home. What do you mean, donkey ribcage 30 bucks? Where'd you get that? A chocolate-covered donkey ear.
You don't… No, that can't be what it really is. Yeah, you're going to have to put us right next to the Rosalinds Coffees and Delights. They complement each other. We'll just get an and friends sign and put it right next to their sign. There'll be Rosalinds Coffees Delights and we'll just put up and friends. Donkey today. The choice is up to you. You really want to do this, friend? Oh. You got it here for you. I know you got money in your pocket. Oh, man. I had a nice-looking tie on that day. Cooking donkey. Oh, that was nice. Oh, man. I should wear a tie again. There. That really… I put things back on track. Oh, whiz-bang. Oh, I feel better. So, Danielle. Yes. What brings you here? Awkward. You've got a special day coming up very soon
in January. My birthday. How old are you going to be? 21. Oh, man. What does a Christ follower do for their 21st birthday? Drinks wine like Jesus did. Well, I'm just saying you probably have a different perspective than a lot of people who are excited about 21. Yeah. You want to go to the casino? Yeah. Yeah. That's what I did. Yep. Yeah. Yeah, casino. Yeah, whatever. I mean, if you'd have said anything, I'd say, yeah, horseback ride. I've got it all. Whatever. You want to trade shoes? So, the wine is going to be your choice? No, I've always said I want to have an apple teeny light on the teeny because that's what JD does on scrubs. Oh, gotcha. So. So, you want apple juice? I guess. Do you ever buy that sparkling apple juice? Yes. Actually, I did that.
After New Year's Eve, I would go to the Dollar General and get those bottles of the sparkling grape juice and I'd get cheese and I'd have wine and cheese. Yeah. Classy. I've never had a teeny of anything. Like, I don't think I've ever had any specialty drink of any kind. Oh. No. No. No. Dan, what did you do on your 21st birthday? 21. Wasn't the legal age for you 19? It was 19. I had already quit drinking by 21. So, it was like, yeah, whatever. So, that was not a big thing. Was it illegal to ride your horse and drink at the same time? Have you been drinking? It wasn't that long ago. Oh. Pardon me. So, I would have been dating Cheryl. So, I don't know. No memories. I don't know. Anybody in the chat, anything? Well, perhaps not getting too graphic, but what went on in your 21st birthday? I guess what I did on my 22nd birthday, but that's different. Donk, retinis? Ben, that's a stretch, buddy. That is a stretch.
Although, that would be a pretty funny shirt if you said, like, donkey-tinis and there was, like, a tiny donkey sitting in, like, a martini glass looking around. Of course, you can't look around on a shirt. It's a static shirt. No. Yeah, it doesn't move. You can get the ones where you look, like, at a poster and the eyes move where it's, like, running. You know what I'm talking about? How is that again? What does it do? Just like that. And here it goes. No, girl, though, has, like, two images and you, like, you have, like, a… It's on, like, a notebook or something. You move the notebook a little bit. Oh, yeah. That's what I'm talking about. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Put that on a t-shirt. I don't know what that's called. Like a hologram type of thing? For a final. Okay, Allison bought 21 lotto tickets and didn't even win a free ticket and went home and fell asleep on the living room floor but was not drinking. Do you guys play the lotto? Does anybody do the lotto? I've been Powerball. Like, when it gets, like, really high, I'll throw a buck at it. I always think that I'm going to… I tell you, the lottery's got me.
Some days I think… Like, I don't play it… Like, I play, like, once every six months. I'll decide that the Lord wants me to win the Powerball. Sure, yeah, yeah. Today's the day. And then I tell the Lord what I'm going to do with the money. And I think, well, this justifies it. I better have it, you know? And then I don't get it. And I think, well, maybe I was… Maybe not. Maybe I'd have squandered it. Who's to say? What's your… Why? Why did you do that? Trying to see whether I'm balding. You are, definitely. Yeah. I didn't broadcast that shot, though. We're still looking at you. Oh. Yeah, if you ever get a shot of Ben without his hat on, it looks like someone wanted to buy a mower from him and then made him eat his own hair. And his current hair state is the aftermath. I believe in the law and the process. Did you… I don't know. Maybe I didn't get that story right, but it sounded like he said… Like, the way he told it was that the guy came up and offered him 200 bucks, 250.
For more, he spent 20 bucks on it. Yeah, but then he said he thought I was ripping him off. So, like, why would he offer a price that would rip himself off? Yeah, why would you tell the guy who's trying to buy it what you paid for it? I only paid $20 for it. You're ripping me off! Get the knife! Like, is that… I mean, is that a thing to find out, like, someone got a really good deal and then offer him a few bucks more and then punch him in the face for not giving you a good deal as well? Yeah. I mean, because… Actually, I've had that happen before where we… Something good, we picked up that van we were talking about. We got it at a pretty decent price, you know? And, like, as if I'm responsible for someone else getting a good deal from it because I got a deal from it. You know? People think because you had good fortune or were in the right circumstances or whatever that I should turn around and produce good circumstances for you.
But, like, you didn't do anything. You just found a guy with good circumstances and then tried to leech off him. I've done that. I've leeched. I like to leech. I'm a leecher. Nothing else on 21? Daddy-o, what'd you do when you were on your 21st? Not pants? What do you got? Anything? I didn't do anything. I bet I went to a movie or something. I think I was working. I'll probably be writing a paper or doing a project. I was thinking, I was probably doing homework. Yeah. I don't even remember. I don't remember what I did. You bought your dad a beer? Okay. Did you buy booze for anybody else? My birthday's on a Monday. I was kidding. Why are we whispering? I was going through the spelling error then he corrected it. About? About? Is that Canadian? About? About my dad a beer?
We didn't drink until he was 24. I see. Okay. I take a… Yeah, no. I didn't do anything. I was trying to think. I don't think I did absolutely nothing. I went to him for his birthday. I drank from 19 to like 19 and a half and decided I'm going to have to make a choice because I was like going at it pretty good. And you just dropped it? I just dropped it. You don't drink at all ever? Oh, if I can now. For at least 20 years I didn't drink anything at all, period. And then now every once in a while I was like, well, I can't. It's not unbiblical. You know, it's not bad. And in a context of what I would be doing and it would be like it doesn't matter, you know. Usually on my horse. Yeah. Come on! Who wants gumballs? I'll be there in three days.
I dropped a gumball. Don't make me get out my pogo stick. It was really cool because that was back in the day when the 80s videos were just coming out so I'd just go and drink and just watch the videos because you didn't have… MTV might have been out. I don't remember. But that was like ZZ Top on the big screen and it was just like, oh, this is cool. You were hauled up on Jack Daniels watching second chapter of Acts? No. That all came later and I thought, I've got to turn my life on everything because I'm going to go one way or another. I didn't want to do it halfway so we went out several times a week and spent a lot of money and drank a lot of stuff. That cost a lot of money to drink. Yeah, it wasn't smart. Unless you steal it. I didn't do that. I had morals, kind of. I mean, I was even freaked out when someone wanted me to dance. I was like,
I don't know if I can really dance. I was conflicted, obviously. And I was in my first semester of Bible college. Even that's a little bit conflicted right there. People say, what are you doing? I'm working. Well, I was working. I was also, you know, I just had to decide. I've got a path. I've got to choose. I've got to get on one path or the other because I was going to do one of them all the way. And so for me, I had to get off. You went with Jesus? I went with Jesus. Probably a good move. Yeah. But now I'm old enough and a little more mature so I can handle it. So can I dance or can't I? I think you can. Okay. That's what I love about dancing. One of my biggest entertainments was sitting there drinking and watching everybody else make complete fools of themselves. Yeah. So I've never been able to dance because I'm like, I saw what that looked like. Oh yeah, it's ridiculous.
You know, and it's just like… But were you drunk when you saw it? I don't know if I was ever really drunk. You know, I mean, I make it sound big, but I mean, I never had a hangover. I never threw up. I probably did some things I shouldn't have, like try to get in fights and stuff. How did that go? Give me one scenario where you tried to start a brawl. Oh, it's like donut land now or something. It used to be a get and go over by Hoover on Douglas. And we were getting gas and some kids pulled up behind us and I don't know, they honked. I gave them a dirty look and then we all yelled at each other and then they took off. Then my buddy Ed and I jumped in the car and we started chasing them and we ended up in the middle of somebody's yard teetering on a railroad tie. It was kind of fun. So we never actually got in a fight. We just tried. So they would run. You went, oh yeah, you're not going to do that to me.
They went, get in the car, Ed. Come on, Ed. I understand. It was dumb stuff like that. Is this what we're going to do? We're going to dig on Lambert and dance? Dad said it was all right. I've danced with Cheryl, my wife, once. That was just like a few years ago. You did the thriller move on this show circa six months ago. See? Good. Yeah. I contacted Vance to see when he's going to be in town again so we can come to Pathway again. Are you freaking him out? We talked about this last time. No, we're good friends. We're friends on Facebook. That means we're in tight. You're freaking him out. I don't know. I just said, hey, actually, you know what's better? I'm probably freaking out. I sent an email today. Hi, Vance. I was trying to just say something about his website. Are we still friends? Here's the thing. It is so transparent when we like people.
Like, I mean, it's ridiculous. Yeah. I think Vance is a pretty cool guy and so we like talked to him 80 times at the Spirit Midwest Festival. I don't know. He's a pretty cool fella. On three, I'm going to put my face close to the camera in a circular motion. Mike, you do the same thing. Ready? What does that mean? Circular motion. One, two, three. Oh. Oh. Oh. What? We should have been. Yeah, there he goes. Come on, Daniel. You're the only one not dancing. I'm just looking at you. Do it. Do it. Just dance. Find my record, please. Dance. So is your band. I can't do the shit. Dance. Dance. Dance. This is right now. I've got a shameless plug to sell my CD. Daniel's in.
Lady Gaga will be sending me some hate mail and spill her cocktail. Okay, so the witnessing to the unwitnessable. This will bring him in right here. It went a little short. We had full thanks that this was going to take up more time than it did and it most certainly did not. And so we're scrambling. So I'm thinking like next week we need like a more solid. Subject. A topic. I thought that was going to be pretty solid but it turned out. We can talk about it some more. I'm ready to warm. I'm kind of warmed up now. So what do you want to talk about again? Reaching the Unreachedable. What are we talking about next week? You tell Vance he can use that on his website if he wants to. Yeah, whatever. That's pretty sweet. I've only got four members right now. Dan Hudson for President of 2012. Doggone it, Dan. I'm waiting for Allison. We're friends now. There's no reason. Allison, Allison. You're holding back. Just because you've made friends with him. Don't do it. This is a mistake. I'm waiting for Big Daddy-O on the patio. You're going to be great.
Or what did they call you on the other show? Do-blah, do-blah. Diablo on the patio. Diablo. Come on, Diablo. Come on, Diablo. I need a running mate. People just checking out the end of our Christian radio show, the Come on, Diablo doesn't come off very well. Oh, really? Yeah. Maybe not. See, I'm just ignorant. Going back to the theme. I don't know anything about this. Seriously. Seriously. Really? Are you with me? Are you with me? I'm an idiot, right? Oh, man. It's really falling apart here. Next week, so I'll give you a special year. Candy for Nichols will be in the studio. They'll be here the first hour, play a few songs. They ought to eat up some time. Yeah. How would you describe their style? What's their problem? Actually, I'm interested to hear that because the only thing I heard on their website and they sent me a CD was like hard rockish. But they're doing acoustic sets while they're in here. But they do acoustic sets around.
I saw they played it a couple places around town. They were at Smokey Row. There's some kind of benefit. I really should keep a better track on dates. So anyway, they'll be here for a little bit. And then again, we're going to, actually, next week's Powerful Stuff, we're going to do a longer segment of the non-biblical signs of the apocalypse. So we're going to have some of those ready to go. And chat, you guys are important because I want you to, you're going to vote for either, your vote is going to be either the end is near or we've got some time. Okay? So if I say this is a non-biblical sign of the apocalypse, you're going to tell me whether the end is near or we've got some time. So that's coming up next week. We're going to do the Name That Tune, Jesus Edition. Okay, Secular Tunes with the word Jesus in it. You get the Jesus clip. You've got to tell me what song it's from. I can tell you that I'm pretty confident a lot of you'll get
seven out of the ten that I have lined up so far. Except for me. There's one. Dan, you will get two is my guess. Baby. You might have agreed to have heard four of them. But I don't know if you'll get who got it or who sang it. I'm such a nerd. Do you have to get both title and artist? Yeah, title and artist. Ooh, now in the wild. I'll give half points. Okay. You sound like, what was that one song? Yeah. I'm not going to sing it. Okay. And then the week after. It doesn't sound like Mike or Dan are willing to get people to come to our hot chocolate judgment. So we may not have a hot chocolate. Don't raise your eyebrows at me, Daniel. Did you get people to do it? I was going to bring a Swiss Miss. What's the hot chocolate thing?
You're not your own. So the deal was, Mike and Dan were responsible for going to some local businesses and trying to get them I just found out I was responsible. to submit hot chocolate for a competition to see if we were going to vote on Live from the Path votes on the best hot chocolate in the city. And these two yahoos can't get out there and at my, what am I going to say to them? He tells me. What am I going to say? I say, tell them we're doing a hot chocolate contest and you want to know if they want to enter. What am I going to say about it? They're going to laugh at me. They are going to laugh at me. This is helping you get beyond the awkward situation. I'm telling you what, you're going to roast me about talking to other people and your plan to interview David Crowder
is, what's your problem? I'm just pitching around ideas. Okay, I will be a vendor. Seduce me. So we have this hot chocolate contest coming up. You're creepy. One more time and I'm getting you kicked out of the store. Who's next, please? I'm looking some smooth hot chocolate. You're the same guy. Hey, aren't you running for president? Velvet crush. Go for dance. Amp. Go for dance. Amplify. I was going to have Danielle bring her guitar in today and sell her new CD. Do you have a CD out? That didn't work. It's called My New CD. Daddy, we're not reading the show to what is your problem. You could do a second show called
It could be a game show. Why don't you split your marathon? Let's combine our shows and do a game show. What's your problem? Wait, but combine our show with who? Well, I mean, we'll keep our shows separate, but we'll also do a together one and we'll just interview people who have walked by and say, what's your problem? Together one with who? With Cassidy. No. We'll send him out to cause problem and they'll come walking by all ticked off. We'll say, what's your problem? Okay, I'm in. Actually, now to his credit, Cassidy can rustle me up some people and bring some hot chocolate in here. I bet he can't.
I bet he can't. If he doesn't, we'll let him have some. She really doesn't have a CD, I don't think. Allison, do you have a CD? I'd be willing to sing La Bamba. Actually, I'll tell you what, Cassidy. Do you know La Bamba? Hold on a minute. Matt Cassidy, if you go out and roust up people, I will have you on that week to be the taste tester. The guy that tastes the hot chocolate. We get to make it. No, Dan. I want legitimate hot chocolate vendors. I'm not going to give us the powders. You could submit one if you want to. It would be cold. Why? Can't we just… They get to go right now and try to find a place. I want them to bring it in, yeah. Oh, they're going to bring it in.
Okay, so they're going to keep it. I'm not going to get it like eight hours before and haul it in. I failed you. I'm sorry. Yes, Daddy, I'm serious. I'm trying to run a campaign here, all right? Yeah, I'm serious. You get them in, you can be the tester. Okay, very good. It was on his bucket list. Don't tell him you're from our show. Exactly. Cassidy. No, why? No, why? Tell him you're from what's your problem. What? I'm just saying. I'm just saying. All right. Hi, I'm Matt Cassidy. Have hot chocolate on our show. Well, where are you from? What's your problem anyway? I'm from live from the path. I'm Matt Cassidy. You have not heard of me. I am Matt Cassidy. Viral video show. 10 to 1.
10 to 1 Saturday night. This is going to be a disaster. I like it. We're going to get hate mail. What's different? Currently, we get no mail. I suppose hate mail is better. I've got a phone call. You can listen to live from the path on the boy on Amplified.com. You can check us out during the week at livefromthepath.org. You can get access to our YouTube channel. You can sign up for the newsletter. Please do. By the way, if you friend me on the Facebook, again, my name is Ben Foost, I will eventually just steal your email address and put it on the newsletter. Our newsletter size doubled this week because I finally remember that people do put their email address on their Facebook account.
Bonus. Yes. Congratulations if you are a new recipient of the live from the path newsletter. Getting that creepy newsletter. You can feel free to take yourself off it.
