Segments

  • Show open, guest intro, YouTube countdown setup 0:09–5:37
The hosts open from the Pathway studios in Johnston on a Monday night, introducing in-studio guest Shane Van Harden of the Serve Our Youth organization. They set up the episode's running thread: the channel has passed 100,000 views across 155 videos, and they will count down the top five most-viewed clips.
  • Interview: Serve Our Youth and youth mentoring 5:37–31:48
Shane Van Harden describes his organization's mentoring work, including one-on-one prevention-through-mentoring and the Amachi program for children of incarcerated parents. He discusses the generational cycle of incarceration, mentors' 'fixer' mindset, and the goal of helping kids make different choices.
  • Coming up, Facebook blessings, and the hot-dog anecdote 31:49–35:38
The hosts preview the Reason Rally and Dear Life from the Path letters, then riff on people promising blessings from Jesus for liking Facebook posts. A story about offering uncooked hot dogs to door-knocking missionaries rounds out the comedy block.
  • Secular blog post on motives; guarding the mind; idolatry 35:38–52:10
A host reads a paragraph from a secular blog post about not peering into others' motives, which sparks a discussion of how media poisons the mind. They cite Romans 12:2 on being transformed by the renewing of the mind and quote Philippians 4:8 on dwelling on what is true and pure. The conversation turns to modern forms of idolatry, with a joke about Baal worship.
  • Shane's detention-center story, goodbye, and clip #4 52:11–1:05:46
Shane tells how he felt unqualified visiting a locked detention center, having grown up trouble-free in Bondurant, Iowa, and how God used him there anyway. The hosts thank him and take a break, playing the number-four most-viewed YouTube clip: 'Not Myself Anymore' by Jess Anderson.
  • Top-ten YouTube clips guessing game and the Steve Brooks interview 1:05:46–1:07:29
The hosts play a guessing game about which clips land in the channel's top ten, with guesses including an end-times clip. They mention their interview with Steve Brooks, associated with Harold Camping, which ranks in the top ten.
  • Big Ron Carson joins as special guest 1:07:29–1:09:46
With Shane gone, Big Ron Carson joins as the special guest, doing a bit about being a 'radio coach' and introducing himself. The hosts rib him with the joke nickname 'Nathaniel' as he brings gifts into the studio.
  • Dear Scared: the boyfriend who smokes in bed 1:09:46–1:18:50
The first Dear Life from the Path letter is read: 'Dear Scared' lives with boyfriend Dwayne and their six-year-old son; Dwayne falls asleep smoking, leaving burn holes in the blanket, mattress, and carpet. The hosts give their own advice, urging her to leave for her and her child's safety, and debate whether a man can smoke indoors with kids and still follow Jesus.
  • The secular advice column answers Dear Scared 1:18:51–1:20:14
The hosts read the secular advice column's published answer to the Dear Scared letter, which jokes about taking up a pipe and focuses on smoke detectors and the EPA's classification of secondhand smoke as a carcinogen, citing the American Cancer Society.
  • Reason Rally ad and the Jessica Alquist letter 1:20:15–1:23:08
The hosts read an ad for the Reason Rally, a secular-movement gathering set for March 24, 2012 at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. A listener letter then raises Jessica Alquist, the high-school plaintiff who sued to remove a school prayer banner in Cranston and was set to speak at the rally. The hosts discuss whether the atheist organization is using a minor for publicity.
  • Coupon-clipper letter and the littering debate 1:23:08–1:29:27
A letter from a coupon clipper who saves $30 to $40 a week asks whether leaving unusable coupons on store shelves is paying it forward or littering, since her husband accuses her of creating trash. The hosts argue it out, with detours into parking-meter coin feeding and whether the coupons actually get used.
  • The secular advice column answers the coupon letter 1:29:27–1:30:02
The secular advice column's answer to the coupon-clipper letter is read: it calls her generous, not a litterbug, and mocks her critical husband. The hosts riff on the columnist's over-the-top response.
  • YouTube clip #3: Syndrome Of Fire and the Seven Flags concert 1:30:02–1:35:13
The countdown resumes with the number-three most-viewed clip: Syndrome Of Fire performing 'Best Of Me.' The hosts promote the band's upcoming Friday show at the Seven Flags Event Center, where they open for Cutlass, and note the band's friendly rivalry with the channel's number-one video.
  • Coworker faking a pregnancy letter 1:35:13–1:40:31
A pregnant letter writer asks what to do about coworker 'Amber,' who began claiming she is pregnant with twins after hearing the news, brought in ultrasound photos downloaded from Google Images, and keeps the ruse going though everyone knows she is lying. The hosts debate confronting her versus watching it play out, then read the secular column's answer.
  • Widow dating her brother-in-law's nephew 1:40:32–1:44:04
A letter writer who was widowed at 22 and is now 27 asks whether it is wrong to date Jared, the nephew of her brother-in-law, and how to introduce him to family. The secular column's answer says she is doing nothing wrong and to stop feeling guilty; the hosts add their own counsel about broken promises and boundaries.
  • The 'miracle baby' after a promised vasectomy reversal 1:44:05–1:46:54
The last letter: married a year to Andy, who has three children from a prior marriage, had a vasectomy eight years ago, and promised to have it reversed but never did. The writer got pregnant anyway and first called it their miracle baby, but at fifteen weeks Andy is convinced the baby is not his. The hosts unpack the situation.
  • Secular and hosts' advice on the miracle-baby letter 1:46:54–1:49:45
The secular column's answer suggests the vasectomy may have reversed itself naturally and advises a urologist's sperm check plus therapy. The hosts give their own take: it is not a miracle but a poorly done vasectomy, and the marriage is already entered so the couple must work through it.
  • YouTube clip #2: Jessa and Jordan Anderson 1:49:45–1:55:32
The number-two most-viewed clip plays: Jessa and Jordan Anderson performing 'Not What I Thought,' a prime cut from their CD of the same name. The hosts recap the duo's recent studio visit, where they played unreleased songs, and note their next radio single 'Worship The Lamb' and an Easter appearance at Pathway.
  • Upcoming guests and banter 1:55:32–1:57:47
The hosts look ahead: local artist Wayne Stewart visits next week to share music, and Chris Day follows the week after. Banter about pancakes, panteros, and the Easter timing of the Pathway show fills out the segment before the number-one reveal.
  • YouTube clip #1: 'Caps For Sale' rendition and close 1:57:47–1:58:04
The most-viewed video on the channel is revealed: the Life From The Path rendition of 'Caps For Sale.' The hosts send listeners off to the YouTube channel and close the show.

Live from the Pathway Studios in Johnston Proper, you are Live from the Path. Live from the Path, my name is Ben Foone. Thanks for being with us here tonight. Wait a minute, did we hose our guest without any headphones? No, we got some. Okay, all right, good. We got some. I don't know why the show has to be a constant embarrassment. It's in the design. Hey, you're listening to Live from the Path. We are in studio on a Monday night. It's 10 to midnight here at livefromthepath.org. Mike, Mike, fix it. Fix it. Where's our engineer? We have a lot going on tonight. Shane Van Harden is in studio with us. And so we got a lot to talk about, Shane. Tantamount, too, is the time when you left me here on my lonesome. Yes. Yes. I totally blew you off, man. I heard you like that, though. Actually, so here's the deal. It was 50-50 because we didn't talk this week. And I thought, well, I probably should have reminded him. And I thought, well, if he doesn't show up, that's actually, that could go just as well as to whether he comes or not if we get blown off twice because it makes for a good story. So it's much funnier when people don't show up and we can say, so-and-so refused to come in. Which, basically, by not showing up, you're refusing to attend. And so it's much funnier when people, like, flat-out refuse to show up. Yeah. I'm just not coming in. So we're going to catch up with him. We're going to talk a little bit about youth mentoring, learn about you and your organization. And also, it's a pretty heavy political season. And so maybe we'll get some of your thoughts on that. You didn't tell me we were going to talk about that. I don't like to warn you because you'll ditch. Okay. Just a statement. My views are my own and not reflective of Survey Youth Network. I like it. I like it. They're certainly probably the views alive from the path. Go ahead. Sue away. We don't have anything. You're going to have it all. We have a poster, a donkey, and some masking tape. That's what's in the studio. You can inherit some technical problems. Congratulations to you. Also, hey, this week we hit 100,000 views on the YouTube channel. We did.

Yeah. So our YouTube channel is youtube.com backslash live from the path. And we hit the 100,000 view mark. And so in celebration of this miraculous achievement, we're going to do a countdown of the five top videos career-wise at the YouTube channel for live from the path. So you mean the best out of the 100,000, the five that have garnered the most views? Yeah. So out of 155 videos, what's the top five? We had 155 videos? Yeah. I'm going to guess the top five do not even include us. That's potentially possible. We make no appearance of the top five. That's terrible. I'm just guessing. I haven't looked. I feel like I shouldn't give away the list. Maybe not. So here's what we'll do is we're going to get down to the number one video, and we're going to play the number one video to end the show. So randomly, probably every 20, 25 minutes, I'll play a video out of the top five. Are you going to play the whole thing or just a snippet? No, I'll play the whole thing. Oh, man. I'll play the whole thing. I plan on being long-winded. I don't want you to take it up all the time with the videos. We're also going to talk about, Mike, did you find your stuff? I didn't find any information about it. We'll talk about it in a minute. Okay. Also, there's a Reason Rally coming up. There's a gathering of atheists going to hold a rally at the National Mall. We're going to touch on that. I feel like we've got to beat that subject. Yeah. However, I don't know. There's an interesting aspect to it. What do you mean? Is one of them dressed as a giraffe or something? That's the way you get attention anymore. I'm going to open up a prayer room on the mall. You know, you just gave me a good idea for when I speak at Real Men Conference this Friday. A giraffe. You were going to be at the Real Men Conference? I am. That's why I was going to go because you were going to be there. That is the time. And I introduced myself again just in case you remember. But I have met Shane before from being at the Real Men Conference. Now, what's the Real Men Conference about? You learn to be a real man. That's what you do there? Yeah. What happened last year?

I want my money back. It's actually at the Rising Sun Church on Friday in Pleasant Hill, correct? Yeah. That's correct. What time is the fire up? 7 o'clock. 7 o'clock. There'll be… Realmeniowa.org is where they can go and find information online. Okay. Okay. It should be interesting. So we're going to be there. Mike and I will be playing as part of the worship set. So we'll be out there. And also, I'm really interested in the roundtable. There's going to be a roundtable discussion. So that should be interesting. Are they going to take questions from the crowd? I don't know. Dan, what do you know about it? Scintillating. Thanks, Dan. I'm trying to think of the conversation. I was part of the plan. I don't remember. I think there might be some. But I think, you know, considering who's on that, I can imagine they won't need any input from the crowd. Oh, you mean they're not going to take any? That's what you're saying. They got Jan Michelson. You're saying Mike Foose don't fit in that round of people? I'm just saying. I think they'll have enough conversation without the crowd having any input. That sounds like a one-sided party that I'm not invited to. So I don't know about the intent. But, yeah. Okay. Well, I'm going to go. It's going to be good. All right. I'm stalking Danielle's boyfriend right now. All right. All right, Dan. You're the worst stalker in the world if you announce that you're stalking someone. I said it quietly. No, no. That's true. That's true. Kind of a whisper. All right. Well, go about your business. With us in the studio is Shane Vanderhart. Shane, thanks for coming in.

Oh, very welcome. We appreciate you parting away from your comfy house and family to join us here in the Pathway Studios. No problem. So you are the Director of Ministries and Volunteer Development at Serve Our Youth, yeah? Yes. Okay. I got that right. I wrote it down in a very poor fashion. And probably people hear that and it's like, what does that mean? And it very much sounds like a middle management job or an insurance company. It's, I've worn a variety of different hats with Serve Our Youth Network. I've been with SOI almost 10 years, longest serving staff. We've been in existence as an organization since 99. In my capacity, I oversee our chaplaincy ministries that take place at Polk County Youth Services and Woodward Academy. I also oversee our Second Chance Teams Mentoring Ministry, which is working with juvenile offenders, connecting them with a team of mentors as they come back out into the real world, back in the Des Moines metro area when they've been in placement for, you know, sometimes six months to three years. Yep. So, they need some help kind of just reentering back into society and figuring some things out. So, practically, what does that look like? What types of things, like how are you engaging the youth to help with those types of transitions? Well, because of our relationship with Polk County Youth Services and actually being in the detention facility here in Des Moines, we have the opportunity to meet kids right at the very beginning of their journey in the juvenile justice process because a detention center is not a place where a kid's sentenced. It's a place where they go when they're going through court. So, they've been ordered to detention by a juvenile judge. They're going through the court process. And if they're declared adjudicated delinquent, which is the juvenile justice court phrase for being convicted of a crime, then they have either one or two things that happens in their disposition, which is the equivalent of sentencing, either probation or placement, and kids who are going to placement, those are the kids we target, not target, that's not the right word, but look at and talk to about reentry because kids that are going on to probation, they're usually flying in and out of the detention center. So, we haven't really had long enough to establish a relationship with them. But kids who are going on to longer term placement like state training school or Woodward Academy or a number of different drug treatment facilities around the state, we want to stay connected with them when they're going in placement. We're meeting with their parents to get permission to be able to continue to work with them because sometimes we, well, all the time we need the parental permission before we can even make contact with the youth in the next facility. And so, we stay in touch with them. And then prior to release, we're sitting down with them talking about, you know, what are some of your goals? Let's come up with a reentry plan. Because a lot of times before I started this, or before we started this ministry, in the context of our Bible discussion groups, I would be talking with kids and I'd say, hey, what do you want to do when you get on the outs? That's their word for being on the outside. And they said, I want to do good. Okay, that's great. What does that look like?

You know, and a lot of times they didn't have any idea what that looked like. Yeah. And I think one of the biggest gifts we can give a kid who's coming out of placement like that is just to sit down and it's like, hey, let's take a time out and let's think about three things. Just three, you know, tangible, measurable, you know, timely goals, specific goals that you can set that's going to help you do good, do things differently when you get on the outside. Because oftentimes it's kids leaving placement, doing the same thing, living, hanging out with the same friends, going to the same home, same school, same environment, and they're thinking they're going to achieve different results. Yeah, that's pretty tough. If you're doing the same, I mean, yeah, you've got to have some help if you're going to really do things differently. Well, and the practicality of, I mean, most people would respond, I mean, just in general say, yeah, I want to be a good person. But like practically, definitions around that, what does that look like? What does my life even look like to be that? What is my definition of good? Generally, the answer is good because I want to be better than I was. But it's not, you know, there's not a task understanding of what that actually is and what that looks like in your life. And I think, and some of that is being able to provide the, you know, the parameters of, you know, what does it mean to have a good life and how does it look differently from what it was before? Because people know what they don't want to be and the things that they regret, but it's tough for them to see where that's actually going. You talked about getting permission from the parents. Do you find that most parents are amenable to you guys, you know, going in there and providing that usually, yeah, usually, especially if it's a young, you know, their child's second or third time in the system, then they're definitely saying, hey, you know, we need some help. And we're very low key about when we talk with a parent, we're saying, hey, you know, we're here as a support. We want to be a help to you. We're not here to think we're not thinking that, you know, we know all there is to know about your child and we're going to fix that. That kid actually, I trained my mentors. I said, that's the number one thing. I want you to scratch off the list of roles. Fixer. You're not a fixer. You're not a savior. There's only one savior and you're not him. So if we go into the mindset, we're going to fix this kid, this kid is going to basically hate us. So we just want to come alongside, provide a support and be a support and encouragement to the parent as well as the young person. Try to link them up with resources that might help when they're in the outs. Provide some accountability through the context of our mentoring teams. Our mentoring teams, basically, we match four kids, up to four kids with four mentors. That's a shift in how we've always done mentoring before. It's always been the one-on-one. But we found with this type of kid that actually exposing them to more than one adult is a good thing. Also, they have a lot of different needs and issues going on in their life. And that way, if that mentor also has a team of people that they can rely upon and have

support from, that helps them for longevity as well as nobody has to be the expert on all different areas. So each mentor will focus on a different particular area of need. And we've identified four big ones, four big categories for kids when they leave placement. One was employment, education, social, recreational needs, because believe it or not, unstructured time isn't very good for young people coming out of placement. And then just felt needs, because each kid has different stuff going on. So our teams receive training. We do volunteer screening, continual staff support, ongoing training, and encouragement. So they're not left alone. We don't send them off in the world and say, have fun. Yeah. Boy, that seems tough. That seems tough as a volunteer trying to bow out of that fixer role. Doesn't it? Yeah. You're approaching someone, you're saying, and I really feel like I help, especially, maybe it's a dude thing, right? I've been like, I can fix this. I can go through and I can say a few things, get them to understand something, and it's just going to clean it up. I think it would be difficult to try not to do that. Well, like the adage goes, you know, catch a fish or feed a person, feed them for a day. Teach them to fish, feed them for a lifetime. And if you walk through the process of goal setting and weighing pros and cons and decision making skills, we're setting kids up for success later on. They may screw up. They may make, I guarantee you, they'll make mistakes. That's why I tell our mentors, whether it's with Second Chance or some of our other mentoring programs like a mod to your prevention through mentoring, your kids, your mentee at some point in time in your time with them, they're going to make a decision that disappoints you. Guarantee it. How you respond to that is going to be huge in continuing to build your relationship. If they see that, are you approaching this as, are you giving them law or grace? And if you extend grace and mercy and say, hey, I'm here with you, regardless, you're not going to scare me off. That's going to be huge for that continual building of trust with that young person because it doesn't happen overnight. Yeah. I was thinking about in the context of being able to sustain those types of relationships as a mentee, as a mentor, where do you, where do you get your mentor sounds wrong as if you're going to a place and like picking them up, but like. There's a place where you're shopping. I'll take that one. But, I mean, how many volunteers do you have as part of the organization? We have over 88, last time I checked, 88 mentoring relationships going on. We also, with our Bible discussion groups, we have 14 Bible discussion group leaders. We have about 10, 12 people who are in our visitation ministry program at Polk County Youth Services and then countless volunteers that do parties, you know, monthly parties at the detention center. I would certainly sign up for that ministry before I do the rest of them. The party ministry sounds like a pretty sweet gig. You know? Yeah. It's just go and play board games with kids, bring food, just have fun.

Yeah. Yeah. That sounds like the way to do it. Yeah. And it's good exposure for people who aren't necessarily comfortable with working with high-risk kids because, you know, you go into a locked attention facility. You have, you spend time playing whatever activity you bring or a board game or, and you interact with youth and you find, at least I found, you know, when I got involved in working with the juvenile offenders about, gosh, maybe 12, 13 years ago, that they're really not that much different than the, you know, the young people that we work with in church. They just don't have the resources. They don't have the relationships that some of the, you know, the kids that I worked with when I was a youth pastor had. Um, a lot of times they're a lot more attentive, uh, because they've, they've hit rock bottom and they're ready to listen. And they so appreciate when a volunteer comes in, because a lot of times kids in lockup in particular don't have adults spending time with them unless they're paid to. So. Makes sense. Yeah. Yeah. I, I can't even imagine what that would feel like, uh, but that's, that's the reality for a lot of our kids. So when you, um, when you're talking about mentoring a child, uh, what are some of the, uh, you talked about, about not fixing them, but what are, what is the, you know, the direction, um, that you give the people that, uh, that serve the youth on, uh, on how to, how to mentor somebody in a way that's effective? It's a little bit different with, depending on the program. So I'm going to, I already talked about second chance a little bit, so I'm going to set that aside, Amachi and, and prevention through mentoring is our, is your traditional one-on-one mentoring. It's relationship based. It's, it's not a discipleship program. There's not curriculum. We take kids through it's, it's sharing life on life. So what we teach our mentors to do is to, uh, build how to build a relationship with the young person, how to build trust, um, how to be a listening ear, how to look for those teachable moments. We talk about 40 assets, which is, uh, uh, basically 40 assets was, was, uh, developed by the search Institute based off studying that they, that they did surveys over a million kids and they identified 40 assets that kids need to help transition them from childhood to adulthood. And the benchmarks about 31 of the 40, uh, most kids have about 19, um, kids in urban settings have about 17. So, but the, every, every kid has an asset, you know, as some, some form or function of an asset, youth, youth, uh, ministry and youth work in general used to be so focused on deficiencies. Uh, what are the risk factors, but instead we want to look at what, what does a young person already have going for them and how can we help fill in the gaps and how can we build assets in the lives of kids? There's some assets, um, uh, that, that wouldn't necessarily be appropriate for us as a mentorship. For instance, one of them is a healthy, uh, family communication. We can't really interject in that, um, uh, you know, family time. That's again, that's not something that we as mentors can interject, but with, well, there's some things like with family communication, you know, if the young person talks about, um, having problems talking with their parent, we can sit down and, you know, brainstorm and

role play. It's like, how can you respond differently instead of, you know, whatever, you know, whatever that response is, that's not necessarily getting you the reaction that you hope for. Uh, so we can't change what the parent does, but we can certainly coach the teen. And there are other things too that, um, you know, as far as self-esteem and, and, uh, service to others. And, uh, one of the things I really encourage our mentors to do is find ways to serve with their kids too, because I think, um, it does a couple of things. One, it teaches kids to give it back, but also to it, it helps solidify the relationship because there's something that especially happens when a mentor and a mentee serve together as far as, you know, building that relationship. So with our Amachi programs in our, is that foreign language, Amachi, Amachi, it's Nigerian word. It means, uh, who knows what God will do through this child. That's a lot for just one word there. Yeah. The Nigerians are efficient with their language. They are way over. We need to condense. No doubt. Amachi. Amachi. Yeah. Um, and that's, that's basic or something. And, and that, that is, that's a program that's actually evolved a little bit over the, uh, last few years. It was originally our mentoring children or promise program. It's still working with, these are kids who have been impacted by incarceration. So these are kids mostly that have a parent that's in prison. Uh, and a lot of times those kids are walking around and they feel like they got a label slap their forehead. They don't feel like, uh, there's any hope. They think that, you know, just, uh, people, when somebody says you could just like your dad, that's not necessarily a positive thing. So, um, they, there's this, there's this generational cycle a lot of times that's going on and stats bear this out about 70% of kids who have a parent that's in prison end up in the criminal juvenile justice system themselves. I've seen anecdotally. I've seen that, uh, with detention centers as I, as I talk with kids and I find out there's, there's somebody that they have an incarceration history. Uh, so that's been a model for them. So we want to come in and help kind of break that cycle and help instill in the lives of kids and help them understand that, Hey, this is not the way you don't have to go down that road. You can be your own person. You can make different choices. There's a hope and a purpose and a plan for you, uh, that doesn't involve prison. That's pretty cool. So, so mentors, um, in this program pretty much are on their own to make appointments with the mentee or what we do is we, we, again, everybody gets screened and trained and then our, our staff will set up the original, the first meeting, uh, help break the ice, get them, uh, introduce them to the parent, to the child, and then they schedule the next meeting and then they're off. Um, and we, uh, stay in contact with those mentors at least once a month, usually a little bit more when they're first getting going, just to be sure things are okay.

We offer quarterly trainings for these mentors so they can stay connected with one another as well as, uh, um, receive some training and support, but they're free to call us anytime we, you know, we reach out to them as well. So they're, they're never left alone. Yeah. Yeah. So is the goal like once a week, once a week and it's about an hour a week. Uh, so that's, that's, you know, the average timeframe, some weeks might be a little bit more, some less, just depending on what you got going on. And my, my thing is, you know, we don't micromanage what, what mentors do. We, we give them some ideas and resources, uh, as far as things they can do. Uh, we just say, Hey, you know, um, basically, uh, involve the youth in deciding what you're going to do together, especially depending on the age of the kid, the older the youth is, you know, the more important that that is to do. Uh, so they feel empowered that way. Uh, and, and again, it's sharing life on life, mix it up. Um, you know, we had one mentor like to loves coffee shops. I hear, I mean, I love coffee shops too, but this young person was starting to get bored. So we had to say, Hey, you know, mix it up a little bit. And, and they ended up doing some cross country skiing and snowshoeing. That's quite the difference. Yeah. Yeah. So, so you guys, I want you to change it up, Steve, cross country ski. You know, another, another mentor wanted to focus on homework because the young person was having a hard time with homework and it's like every once in a while, that's all right. But, you know, you don't want the young person that despise the time. Yeah. Let's have a water balloon fight. Yeah. Exactly. I don't know about that. Have you gone snowshoeing? No, it sounds. I didn't realize people did that. No, no. Here's the deal is we went to Colorado. Uh, that's where I got this free hat at the visitor center. Can I tell you that story? Oh. It was sweet. I walked in and the guy had me sign up for an email list and he just gave me this free hat. I wore it ever since. I have no idea. Anyway. They would give that away. So my wife, my wife keeps talking about snowshoeing and I thought, uh, it just sounded like something that goes down in the snow. I thought, okay, maybe we'll get around to this. And, uh, I looked up, it's walking, it's walking, but with different shoes on tennis rackets. And I said, why, why would I want to do that? I don't go walking when I'm at home. It's cool because otherwise if you didn't have it, you'd be sinking down in the snow. But that's like, you also wouldn't have that problem if you didn't go outside.

That's what I'm saying. That's true. Is I am putting myself in danger. Go to the coffee shop. All right. We've gone full circle. Sorry. I was drawn to that snowshoe thing. I couldn't figure it out. You know, it is kind of amazing how much just an hour can help. I'm in a school mentoring thing. So it's a very different, you know, thing. But I've been doing this for several years now in our community. And in the first time I thought, really? I just, you know, I show up and I, you know, play Battleship or something for an hour. And I'm thinking, I'm getting this kid out of math. So he can come and, you know, talk to me about nothing. And I've had some of these that are, that have lasted multiple years. Like started in eighth grade and then graduated, you know. And just to hear the reports of how much he was looking forward to that one hour, how it affected the rest of his week. It's just amazing. So I'm assuming this is even bigger. Yeah. Because it's not in the confines of a school or something. Yeah. It's amazing to me. Just one story. It happened a ways, you know, way back. But it's a good antidote, I think, to what you're talking about. We had a volunteer named Matt who had come to the Polk County Youth Services shelter back when it was open. And he would play ping pong with this young boy that was there. And this kid wouldn't talk, just wouldn't say a word. And he would just keep coming and playing ping pong and keep coming week after week, faithfully, spending time with this young person. And this young person ended up being transferred to Orchard Place down on the south side. And was just really struggling in that placement. And we ended up getting a phone call. And they said, you know, we asked the kid, you know, what is it that you need that's going to help? And he said, all I want is my soy volunteer. And we talked to Matt about that. He's like, you didn't talk. All we did was play ping pong. And I didn't realize he was making that kind of impact. Yeah. So you never know. And even when it seems like things are really struggling and you don't seem to be making any type of an impact, it's never a waste of time to love a kid. You're listening to Life on the Path. We're talking with Shane Vanderhart with the Servo Youth Network. And we've reached a point in time, and I'm going to give you the number five, the number five of the top five. Have I had this one? Kind of. Okay. Kind of. So this video coming in at number five is Creation of Life from the Path. It is one of three fairy tales from the Life from the Path crew. Please enjoy the number five most watched video on the Life from the Path YouTube channel.

This is Tales from the Path featuring the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. Jack and the Beanstalk. I will give you these beans for her. Jack was such a foolish fellow that he agreed. One, three, four, and five beans. The stranger counted out, and Jack ran home to tell his mother. Mama. But his mother wasn't pleased at all. You good for nothing, little boy. She shouted and threw Jack's beans out of the window. The next morning there was a marvelous beanstalk as strong as an oak tree growing right up to the sky. Without a thought, Jack climbed up it and found himself in another country. He found a giant's castle and persuaded the giant's wife to feed him. But then he heard heavy footsteps and a loud voice saying, Be five, oh, oh, I smell the blood of an Englishman. Quick, cat in the oven, said the giant's wife. The giant looked around, but he did to see Jack. Where is he? Hey, hey, you. So he sat down to eat his huge meal. Then he called for his pet hen. Send him the hen. From his hiding place, Jack could see that the hen laid an egg of solid gold. Soon, the giant fell asleep. And Jack rushed out and grabbed the hen. He escaped down the beanstalk before the giant woke up. Jack's mother was very relieved to see him. Oh, Jack. And they lived well by selling the golden egg. But the beanstalk was still there, tempting Jack. Then one day, without telling his mother, Jack climbed the huge beanstalk again. Everything happened as before. The giant roared. Be five, oh, boom. I smell the blood of an Englishman. This time, Jack hid in a cupboard. And again, the giant couldn't find Jack. Hey, boy. After dinner, the giant got out his money bags and counted his coins. But soon, he was asleep and snoring. Quickly, Jack grabbed a bag and slid back down the beanstalk. Three years later, Jack climbed the beanstalk again. This time, he hid in a washtub when the giant roared. Hey! Hey! The giant looked for Jack, but did not find him. Hey, hey. Where are you? Be five, oh, boom. I smell the blood of an Englishman. Then the giant asked his wife to bring the golden heart. Wife, bring me the heart. Soon, he fell asleep. Jack crept out of the washtub and grabbed the heart. But the harp cried out.

Help, I'm being stolen. The giant woke up and chased Jack to the top of the beanstalk. I'll get you. But Jack was lighter than the giant and reached the bottom quickly. He flung down the harp. Down, man. And grabbed an axe to chop the beanstalk. It crashed down and that was the end of the giant. Ah! It was also the end of Jack's adventures. He lived happily with his mother. Sell the cow! Along with the hen that laid eggs of solid gold. Baa! And the harp that sang beautiful song. Oh, yeah, buddy. That's solid entertainment right there. Jack of the beanstalk. You're listening to Live from the Path. That is number… That's number five. Number five. That's the fifth highest quality item we've put out in two years. I don't know what it says. It says something. It says our real content really is worthless. Help, I'm being stolen. That was classic. Now, special trivia. Well, it's not really trivia. So, the top video has ten times the amount of hits as the Jack and the Beanstalk video. Something to think about. If people love the Jack and the Beanstalk, think of where it's going. That's just what I'm saying. Just think about it. All right. You're listening to Live from the Bath. We are in studio with Shane Van Hart from the Serve Our Youth organization. Also, just to give you a heads up on where we're heading, we're going to talk a little bit about the Reason Rally. This is where my dates are completely… It's next month. Me thinking of this week. Oh, yeah. It's next month. That's not coming right up. There's plenty of time. We're also going to do some Dear Life from the Path towards the end of the show. And I received a… I don't know. It wasn't an email, really. But it was… Was this thing on the Facebook about the blessings? No. No, but we're going to talk about that. Because I tell you what.

I'm about tired of people promising me blessings from Jesus for liking their Facebook posts. And I've almost defriended somebody on principle. But then I thought, they don't understand Jesus correctly. I better keep them on. I don't even like you. Is that wrong? No, no. No, no. You better keep them on. They need the help. Maybe I'll catch on to them. I want you to be thinking about what's the antidote to that. How do you… Is it appropriate or ever effective to respond to something like that? No, there's no way for you not to come off as a stuffed shirt. You can't win. No. Well, you can't let it fly, though. I don't know. Shane, what are your thoughts? I just ignore stuff like that. That's the best policy, I think, is just ignore it. Treat it like a Mormon, eh? No comment. I want to come in and talk. Shut off the lights. I take that. I invite them in. I like to talk to people. I'm interested to know how they got there and the stories that they had. I've invited them in. Then they never came back. I felt dejected. You know, they always like to eat the cold hot dogs. They won't let you warm them up. They'll take a raw one. Excuse me? I don't get it. What? Why would you offer someone… That's not a joke. An uncooked hot dog. Because my kids were eating them. That's what they have for snacks. I wonder how that conversation went. Oh, I see you're a Mormon. Would you like a hot dog? No, no. It's pretty creepy. It's an amount of little beets. There's nothing offensive in there. You didn't offer them coffee, at least. Certainly not. Certainly not. I wanted two blessings that night from the Lord.

And it's guaranteed on the Facebook if I don't give coffee. If I don't give it. I invited a couple in once. It was just 950 degrees. I saw those really hot days. And I said, well, come on. I'll get you a bottle of water. They're like, okay. And they think we're… It was going really great. I want you to know, I pray for you and your apostles all the time. That you'll know Jesus. And it went really downhill from there. Yeah, the things just really took a… I mean, I didn't say it in a mean way. I wasn't like, oh, you're not smart or anything. Yeah, but Dan, I mean, think whether they said, like, the opposite to you. You'd have been totally offended. Yeah, like a Baal worshiper comes to your door and says, I pray for you. That you will know Baal. People still worship Baal? I don't know. Somebody's got to. No, out. He's out. Is he really? See, that's the thing. I don't know. I just kind of gave a head nod. They may not still go on. Who was and is and is to come. You know, Jesus don't fade away. The Lord is always there. Baal, he comes and goes. You know what I'm saying? In and out. Idolatry comes in different forms today. He just passed the torch. That's all. I'm surprised that there's not a guy holding on to it. I'm not going to search the internet because I feel like I get into stuff I don't want to be in on. But, like, I can't imagine there's not a guy still holding on to Baal worship. Yeah, maybe. I'm still not. There's people who worship all sorts of different things. Stay out of it, Dan. Dan, don't you do it. Dan, don't. Don't. You're BaalWorship.com. You know it's going to be there. What? Some doofus with, like, a cow head or something. He doesn't even have the details right. Hey, so I got this.

I was just thinking you could do a bait and switch thing. If there isn't the URL, it hasn't been. That's a solid idea. You could register it and have, like, an evangelistic site to those who. Recovery from those coming out of Baal worship. Going out of Baal worship. Did you find one? Oh, Dan's getting sidetracked. Look at him. Weird stuff. So I got this completely from a secular blog post, but I really liked it. So I'm going to give you a taste of this paragraph and see what you think. It says, None of us can truly peer into the souls of others and determine their motives or ambitions. Being ignorant of what's going on outside our vision begs our mind to fill in the blanks. But in truth, we don't always know what's going on. The truth can eventually reveal itself, and it's best if we remain in a position where we can receive it for the truth that it is and not convince ourselves in the meantime of something that isn't true. Sanity, by definition, is a healthy mind. Our mind is only as healthy as what we put into it. If we stuff it with things that aren't true and real, then we can't be sane. And I know the guy, and I know he totally did not mean this in a religious context. He's firmly agnostic. But I really like that when it comes to sanity, by definition, is a healthy mind. Our mind is only as healthy as what we put into it. If we stuff it with things that aren't true and real, then we can't be sane. And it makes me think about just the kinds of things that we're exposed to and the kinds of things that I permit myself to be exposed to. I mean, they're obvious things like media, entertainment, pornography, whatever, things that your mind takes in. But even more subtle things, the news coverage I read, the types of news stories that because it's news I might click on, that if otherwise someone started talking to me about it, I might not agree to look at it. And I might be slowly driving myself insane. I'm poisoning my mind and making my mind unhealthy. And frankly, unsane or insane by the type of stuff that I put in it. Well, you know, a couple of verses come to mind. Romans 12 to be transformed by the renewing of your mind. And then the Apostle Paul also wrote in Philippians 4.8. He says, finally, brethren, whatever is what. And this guy's gentleman's quote reminds me so much what the Apostle Paul said. But finally, brethren, whatever is whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are a good report. If there's any virtue or if there's anything praiseworthy, meditate on these things. Yeah. You know, we just talked about we talked about that verse a couple months ago. I was really it was in one of our sermons on Sunday and I was really taken aback by it because that's pretty much anti my general personality. We'll say you say like generally it's easier to find something where it's lacking and point that out and make a deal out of it. And I realized that I had made a habit of it. And I like that was that was what occupied most of my time was finding where something was deficient and not great and where people had failed or I had failed or, you know, whatnot. And and I don't know, I took I took that verse pretty hard. I took I took it really hard because I was not, you know, obviously haven't domineered that topic. I'm still a little negative, but I think I get it a little bit. I think I think I get it more than I got it. I think I think God kind of took a hold of me a little bit and said, you know, you know, I know what you're doing and this is that's not what I'm about. That's not what I want, you know. And so I don't know that I think that's a really good verse to look back on. And I think it it it grabs the subtlety of the types of things that we that we think because they're not realized or revealed in what we could consider to be an aggressive way in our lives that's otherwise not poisoning our minds. Maybe it's the morning radio show that you listen to on your way to work or whatever. You know, maybe it's the it's the show that like you find funny, but wouldn't tell somebody else that you watch or wouldn't repeat the joke because you don't tell tasteless jokes.

Right. Right. But and maybe maybe that doesn't doesn't bear itself out in a way where people go, you know what? That guy watches that show because I can tell by the jokes he tells. Right. Right. But you are still poisoning your mind with it. I'm still I'm still filling in the gaps of truth that exist within my head with lies, lies or corruption things or things that make me not not with a healthy and a sane mind to live for Christ the way that I should. And sometimes you don't even notice it because in the same way that they don't just because they don't reveal themselves in an aggressive way in your life doesn't mean that that slowly eroding away established established truths that are already going on in your head. Right. And suddenly, you know, you speak a little bit different, but you don't notice because your mind is going the same way your tongue is. Right. And I think I think that's tough. I think it's one of the you know, if you're caught murdering cats in your basement. Yeah. People are going to be able to pick that out as a deficient moral behavior. That's awkward, man. That's what I'm saying. It's weird if you come down. And I don't even know what you say to a guy that's up to that. Ben, stop it. Why? I was on bail worship dot com. I got distracted. They're just kittens. Seemed all right when I was there. I get the newsletter. But but but I but the thing is, is like as you allow us, especially your mind, right? As long as you allow your mind to be slowly, you know, bit by bit poisoned by that stuff. The thing is, is you stop realizing it. You stop realizing that by the same the same Egyptian king that poisons himself daily so that he's immune to it. But your mind becomes immune that you're poisoning yourself daily and that you don't recognize that your behavior is all that different. I think there's one of the big risks that we run is not guarding the types of things that go into your mind. It's living in a culture and understanding where the culture is at so that you can you can help them understand God more, I think, is important. However, you don't need to poison yourself to do it. You can still guard. You can still be cognizant of something without having it kill you. Yeah. And I don't know that that that I did. He totally didn't mean it. But that that that hit me this week is just is thinking putting it in the context of I'm not sane anymore. I'm not thinking my mind is not rational in the terms of what is the truth that I believe in my believing in truth was my mind slowly eroding away truth. And I don't even recognize you find a madman who admits to being mad. Not there's there's people that can't they cannot tell the difference and say I'm crazy. This would be us. This would be us. We're slowly we're going crazy and we can't see it. Yeah. It's a whole this whole pop culture is the cesspool and it should be like we should be repulsed by most of the stuff going on. But but but we're not. You know, we sit there and watch television shows and the music and and how it has changed our culture. I think Romans one really speaks to the direction our culture is going. It's just becoming more and more and more depraved. Absolutely. Absolutely. Without without a doubt. And I've taught our children from as long as as early as they could really think. You know, I mean, I'm continually they hate watching television with me because I'm always making comments. You know, like you realize this character is here on purpose in order to make you think this is normal or you understand this is why they had this sentence in there. But it was not an accident. It was it was carefully planned.

And and, you know, as long as you understand from the background, there's someone trying to brainwash you into a certain way of thinking. You need to know that. And and they're like, oh, yeah, it's like it it's just I mean, it's just out there. It's just blatant. I mean, I finally had to, you know, boycott Glee because it was so over the top. I mean, in your face with with all kinds of just. Yeah. And it got it got progressively worse. Yeah. They real people in season one. And then the plan was and we're going to really let lose season two. Yeah. And that's when we. Well, and that follows the course, right? That's what you have to do is if you are slowly if you're introducing content to someone, they don't notice a lower content. It's it's like an addiction of any kind, right? You have to keep upping that to be able to have it affect you in a way that is still, you know, shocking and still, you know, changes the way you think about things as you continue to become desterilized on what shocked you the first time. Right. And here's the deal. This is totally a funny, dirty conversation, right? It's the type of the media is poisoning. The things I take into my mind are slowly killing me. Oh, if I if I listen to this on the radio or if I watch this on TV, it's hurting me. And that's it's been a characterized as someone that's just a complete, you know, and a boob, an anti-culture boob. But the thing is, is like, that's a success. That's a success when you can look at that and you can say, I don't realize that that these things are in my head. I I used to listen to I mean, there's a number of talk shows that are on in the morning and driving into work. And I there's I have a bad radio in the car. So I only get like two or three stations. So I would turn it on and, you know, I'd listen to stuff and a lot of that stuff is just completely not appropriate. I'm not saying it's not funny at times, but it's just not good. It's not good to go in your mind. And I finally like broke down and bought a better antenna in my car so that I could get a better radio station. And I remember thinking at the time, boy, this seems like really fuddy duddy ish. But the thing is, I my mind is in way better shape when I get to where I'm going and I'm not thinking about things I shouldn't and I'm not putting stuff in there that I shouldn't simply because I didn't have a lot of extra choices on the radio on the way into work. I listen to I'm not saying I have to listen to sermons on the way in. Sure. What I'm saying is, is just keep an eye that you're not poisoning yourself and then thereby poisoning the people you lead and the people that you associate with simply for the fact that you didn't, you know, you didn't realize it and you just thought it was going to be OK. That's tough. That's tough sometimes. That's tough trap to to realize that you're in until you're about waist deep in quicksand, you know, going, hey, you know what happened? Like, like, I mean, and I've had it happen before. Well, you know, I've just, you know, whatever, been sitting around watching something. And then, like, my mind would go somewhere that I didn't want it to go. And I'm like, what? What was that about? You know, and I'm like, how'd that happen? I don't think like that. And then, you know, it's not like I sit there and think, well, OK, now how did my mind get here and replay? You know, but but like it really does after a while. Taco John's commercial. Wham! You want a spicy burrito? Now I'm killing kittens. Did you tell me about that?

Did I tell you that story that I went to? So we had we had our show on. It was it was the show after the Johnston suicide. You know, here in the last couple of weeks or so. And I went to watch it on the Web site because I just want to see how it turned out. And I and our our our our hosting has advertisement before it. And so the advertising before our show started was like some kind of half naked Mexican man in a burrito talking to a woman on an airplane. Like, you want the spicy burrito? And it was really awkward. I was like, how do we get rid of this? This is seriously has to go. But those are the exact kind of things that have like I was watching it. I was I just wanted to see how our show turned out. And and and this is the first thing that comes on. I go, what if I was sitting here with my kids? You know, like that's an awkward conversation. You jumped on eBay and got yourself a taco. I would look really good in a taco outfit. I most certainly have to buy one. It was it was. But that's the kind of thing, right? We just innocently have our show hosted by and I, you know, it's not like we choose the ads or anything. We just load it and they put ads in, you know, before and after. And I just never thought about I never thought that there would be something that would be mild, you know, offensive opening up a show, especially given the content that we're talking about that week is a fairly heavy show. Right. And I thought it's things that I'd even consider that, you know, you could be thrown off with just trying to check something out. Yeah. There was there was a book, I think it was in the 80s, early 80s, Frog in a Kettle. Remember that? And there's the whole idea, you know, if you put a frog in a boiling kettle, it's going to jump out. But if you put it in and slowly warm it up, it'll it'll die. You can boil the thing and it'll just sit there. And that's that's kind of our culture. That's what you're talking about. They've slowly turned the temperature up over. That's terrible. It is. Who wrote that? You don't take advice from a man that says stuff like that. That's trying to figure out who's the first person to figure out that would happen. Let's just try this. The same guy that's killing cats in his basement. That's a creepy individual. The point is, we're killing ourselves by all of this culture, pop culture, all the poison that's around us, the music and the television and the arts and the movies and the books and the magazine. And the people. It's going to people. I mean, ultimately, people are behind all that jazz, right? Yeah. You know, I listened to Mike Dermastis' sermon that he did with all the big hoopla, you know, and the protests going on. And he had some great quotes in there. And he read Unleash Your Homosexuality. I mean, just a biting thing about how it's abnormal and awful and all this stuff. And it was out of Time magazine like 25 years ago or something. And he goes, can you imagine Time magazine, you know, saying that now?

The way our culture is, you can't even put a church sign out and you have protesters, you know, saying something mild compared to what Time magazine put in their national publication, you know, just 20, 30 years or whatever earlier. And that's how much our culture has shifted. And it's just, it's all normal. It's all good. So how did you help it? You were born that way. There's a song. Yeah. You know. And what's wrong has become right and acceptable. And what's right is now wrong. We've flipped everything upside down. And it's been slow because some of the stuff that's happening now, if it was done when I was in high school, it would have been just outlandish uproar. People would have revolted and it wouldn't happen. And now everybody's like, well, yeah, that's cool. It's okay. I might throw out that that shirt you have on would not have been acceptable in high school either. It's quite possible because they weren't ready for it. We had to kind of warm culture up for it. Hey, McFly. Been buttering him up for years with this shirt. Actually, Dan, that's actually pretty nice. I thought this was pretty tame. No, no. It's pretty good. I have no opinion. I like what shirt Ben had on Sunday, though. Do you happen to notice? Yeah. Here's what Ben tries to tell me. First of all, they're trying to order shirts for the Real Men Conference on Sunday, right? So Jared's walking around getting T-shirt orders. And he says, hey, Ben, what size shirt do you wear? I ordered a large. Ben says, I'll take a medium. I say, yeah, right. I say, you need two mediums, one for your body and one for your belly. You don't wear a medium. I've been his twin brother ever since we've been alive. It'll be 30 years here in March I've known this man. He don't wear a medium T-shirt. So far, all I've seen is his shirt struggle in pain as he tries to whoop one of the medium T-shirts on, and it's not going to work out. So the Real Men T-shirts aren't going to fly off the shelf with Ben doing the modeling. It's not going to. I ordered him a large behind his back. We'll see how it works out. Real Men wear a medium. Speaking of… I'm in trouble. Is a KTIA going to be at the Real Men deal? Yes. Yeah. Good deal. I'm sorry.

I could have asked you that off the air, but I was excited about it just then. By the way, just shameless plug. I forgot to mention our website. I'd be remiss not to mention Soy's website. ServeOurYouth.org. ServeOurYouth.org. You know, actually, I was going to ask you a question about that. We got sidetracked about burritos and whatnot. Sorry. But… I don't understand how you get sidetracked. It's mostly my fault. So do they offer… Do you guys offer… I don't want to say classes or whatever, but for the parents involved as well? Do they have their own separate people that they can talk to? We don't. No. Our focus is with the kids. I mean, we'll… I mean, some people just have jerk parents. Maybe they need the counseling. You don't have to say that. I can say that. You don't have to say that. Here's what I've learned. Here's what I've learned in my… I've been in youth ministry almost 20 years, and I have not yet met a parent that intentionally said when their child was born, I really want to screw up that kid. So a lot of times they're just… They lacked resources. They lacked proper modeling, and so they need some support and grace, and what we could do is offer referrals, but that's not something we do ourselves. Sure. Sure. You know, it's kind of painful for me as a pastor, and so I'm sure you can relate to this. Life is not that hard. You know what I mean? It's really not. But man, we screw it up. Mm-hmm. And then it gets hard. Mm-hmm. And so people come to you about the time it's really hard. They're like, help me fix this. It's like, well, just stop doing that. You know, whatever it is you're doing that's making it hard. And I'm a horrible counselor, by the way. Just judging by your opening line, yeah, I certainly would not take any issues to your office. Yeah. Yeah. It's like, well, stop it. Oh, thanks.

Dan, I've made some mistakes. Mike, you've made some mistakes. Oh. Well, thanks, Dan. He's quite on listening. I have a list, as a matter of fact. I recommend you stop making mistakes. You know what your first problem is? You're not Dan Hudson. That's problem number one. Let's start with your shirt. Number two, your shirt says, calm, easy going. That's not what you want. You want either sofa or I'm here to party. Those are your options. And it's way too big. I'd cut down the medium. Speaking of the Real Men Conference, so Shane, you will be there. I will. Speaking on what? Real Men Mentor. The Advocacy of Mentoring. Mm-hmm. Would you be wearing waders and bringing a fishing pole to say, look, you can just do this and be a mentor? I wasn't thinking about that, but I'd have to find waders. Your future career as a sidekick is not looking good. I'll wear a spandex. Some people go, you know what I want to be? I just want to be the idea man. I want to come up with ideas and have people implement them. That's not a job for you. You're the implement guy. All right. So, I mean, without giving away the farm here, what can I expect out of a Real Men Mentor? Well, basically, talk about the need and how men can get involved. And we're all busy. I understand that. But what do you do in an hour a week that you can take that time and spend making an impact on the life of a kid? I take in bad parts of culture. I pollute my own mind. Instead of watching Glee like Dan does, you can… I never watch Glee. You can venture a kid. Oh, man. See, it looks kind of like a girly show to begin with. I never started on it. I might like that one. Hey, look at that. That's how we dance. Dan always dances with his whole body. It's entertaining. There it is. It's the same one. I don't even need music. He's available for weddings or just hanging around in the car.

He's creeping because his head doesn't move. It's just like his body goes… Oh, boy. Let me ask you this. We're going to say goodbye to Shane. He has probably more legitimate things to do at this hour. But before you go, let me just ask you, so how did you get into this? How did you get into this Servo Youth? Great question. It goes back to actually when I was a youth pastor in Indiana. My senior pastor went to a ministerial association in Valparaiso, and there a gentleman came to talk to the pastors to talk about this need of having volunteer chaplains come into the juvenile detention center in Valparaiso, and my senior pastor said, oh, yeah, my youth pastor would love to do that. That's awesome. Yeah, and I had it in my job description a little at the last line, and other duties as assigned by a senior pastor. That's a great line to add, by the way. Yeah, he really liked it. So he told me what he volunteered me for, and he saw something in me that I don't think I saw myself. I had a little experience not being a detained youth, but actually I worked in a juvenile facility for a while between youth pastorates. So I wasn't completely unaware of what I was getting into, but I remember going up to the detention center. I had not actually been in a locked detention facility before. I'm like, God, I don't know what I'm doing here. I don't feel like I have anything in common with these kids. I grew up in Bondurant, Iowa. I never got in trouble with the law. I did some things in college I could have gotten in trouble with the law, but I wasn't caught. But I had pretty much a normal childhood and pretty much trouble-free, so how am I going to relate? And God just used that time to refine me, to sharpen my evangelism gift, to be a better listener. I saw fruit. It was all God. It was nothing I was doing myself. But kids were coming to Christ. I was going back and discipling them individually. The director of the facility asked me to do a Bible study. And when I was going back four or five times a week, my friend said, Shane, we think this is where God is working in your life. You're considered doing this full-time. I'm like, you know what? I'm starting to think about that. I read this book called At Risk by Scott Larson. He's president of Straight Ahead Ministries out on the East Coast, and they're a huge juvenile justice ministry. And that just really inspired me because there was really nobody taking time to spend with these kids. I remember going to a liberal church and talking about this organization, and somebody asked me, what about Muslims? What about these other religions?

Can they come in? And it's like, they can, but they don't. And the fact is, these kids are marginalized a lot of times. You've messed up. Let's stick you in detention. Let's throw away the key. Let's forget about you. And it's like, these are kids that, these are kids that are going to end up in the prison system before. So I saw that there's no such thing as a throwaway kid, and these kids are being ignored. So I wanted to spend, you know, invest my time working with these young people. So God opened up an opportunity in Des Moines, my hometown, to come and do it full time. So he took me on a little, you know, side tour before that, but it was just really neat how that worked out. So that's how I got involved. You know, love it. And if I wasn't doing it full time, I'd be volunteering. That's awesome. I'm pretty excited to hear this thing at the Real Men Conference. Yeah. I'm excited, too. That's a, so if you want to catch Shane at the Real Men of Faith Conference, you go to realmeniowa.org. Yeah? Yeah. It's, it's a Friday, it's at 7 o'clock at the Riding Sun Church of Christ in Pleasant Hill. Pretty easy to get to. It's free. It's free to get in. The price is right. Yeah, the price is right. I don't know if they're selling, you got refreshments? Are they selling those t-shirts? I think they're selling the t-shirts. There'll be some shirts there. I don't know about the refreshments. I don't think so. Maybe cookies. I got to start asking stuff. They did coffee and cookies last year. There you go. There you go. Oil change food. We could bring our new cookies. Things you expect to eat at two oil change foods. Shane, thanks so much for coming in. We really appreciate it. Oh, thanks for having me. Doors open anytime, but we'll let you get on to other business. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah The only thing I could come up with is Jesus on a seesaw That was my addition to the conversation I'm totally useless This is gonna be good

I should figure out which one That is actually our content Oh You know what it is? I know exactly what it is Mike, what's your guess? If it's in the top ten Of our Like not one of our guests Not one Not somebody singing And not one of our Like our I bet it's the end of times guy Dan, what's your guess? Boy, I can't think of anything We've already done Really worthy of watching Dan wasn't really Intellectually present On much of the conversations Anyway I'm usually thinking about Man, if I just went to bed right now I could wake up pretty early That'd be pretty sweet That'd be really great Should I really raise my hand If I'm sure? I don't know That is really awesome I can't decide What do a shirt I wear next week? Is it Mike's rendition of Methuselah went down to Nineveh? Ah, yeah No No, that's It's roughly number 40 Number 40 on the list Poor reviews, man Okay So it's number 8 in the list In the top 10 YouTube clips It's got to be the

It is the end of times guy Yeah, it's got to be It is our interview with Steve Brooks Associated with the Herald Camping Who I cannot get back in for a re-interview After I've attempted And I can't get any calls back Maybe he's gone Maybe we're in the streets The church race is over Jesus really came back? Run for the hills There's only three of them That's a bummer I don't know Yikes Alright, anyway Hey, so you're listening to Live from the Path We're joined by A special guest Replacing Shane Yeah, yeah, yeah So Shane has taken off Big Ron Carson's in Hey, Big Ron Hey I'm Big Ron I hope you didn't practice that On the way in I did On my drive up here I was like Oh, what am I going to say? It'll be my line I'm going to say Hey, I'm Big Ron I'm going to be your radio coach I'll tell you the good things to do Now, if I had said Nathaniel Would you have said Hey, Big Ron? Yeah Alright, hey So where do you go? I would have said Take it easy with that Nathaniel stuff I'm Big Ron Back off that heresy I'm Big Ron So Nathaniel's brought gifts What do you got for us? I got some gourmet Walgreens soda That looks delish It's delish

Is that what it's called? It's good and delish, actually But good and delish is being phased out To nice products Is that widely known? Did you just give away The Walgreens company secret? No It's happening Hey, do you guys have Where you have to get the key To the bathroom Or can you just go in? We talked about this Last time I was on And now we can just go in Do we? Yeah Is someone drinking grape? It smells like cough syrup I want to know what makes that gourmet What makes them decide Pop is gourmet It says right under gourmet Made with real sugar So that's what I would assume That's what makes it Yeah Gourmet Gourmet What is regular pot made out of? High fructose corn syrup Yeah Not me Not me That'll take out your pancreas Yeah And your liver I like my liver Here's what we've got coming up We're going to touch on this Reason Rally Tell you a little bit about that That's coming up It's something to be praying for I think for those folks And there's some peripheral action going on there That we probably need to talk about Also we're going to do some Deer Live from the Path And yeah I think that's what we've got going on Deer Live from the Path Dwayne My boyfriend of 8 years Hold on a second I want to snag one of them sodas

Which one? We got vanilla cream soda or root beer? Give me the root beer Alright Now let me hear about Dwayne Make it happen Dwayne My boyfriend of 8 years Insists on smoking in his bedroom In our last apartment He'd fall asleep with a lit cigarette And ended up burning holes in our couch Numerous blankets and pillows As well as the carpet Hey Never mind I'm sorry Go ahead When we moved Dwayne assured me he had stopped doing that But a month ago I noticed his blanket and mattress have burn holes And so does the carpet by his bed We We lived together with our 6 year old son And needless to say I am scared to death Dwayne will burn this place down I have talked to him about it numerous times All he does is yell And say it won't happen Because cigarettes are safer now I've discussed this With our landlord To no avail I thought about calling social services I don't want him to get in trouble I could really use some good advice Are you serious She talked to the landlord Hey We're burning holes in your carpet So I want to see if I'm catching this straight They've been dating for 8 years 8 years They have separate bedrooms Did I get that right? Yeah However They've obviously been together At least once Out of wedlock Yep They have a horrible communication System

He also sleeps on the couch Because you said He falls asleep And there's burns in the couch Which means he's sleeping on the couch And there's a 6 year old boy Living in a house That you're smoking indoors And burning down And potentially burning down And she's willing to have that child Sent to foster care To get at her boyfriend I want to see the I want to see the talk With the landlord Like he says Hey Listen Here's the deal My boyfriend is burning smokes And almost burning your place down Pan the camera over to the landlord Eh I got insurance I'm going to go shovel the walk I mean Aren't you stretching Like if you're looking for Somebody to be the moral heavy With your live in boyfriend And you You don't have anyone else to go to But the landlord In your building Whose building you are abusing It seems outrageous The story is more sad than comical I should have read the whole thing I did not realize It was I thought Doofus guy Smoking in his room Burning the place down That sounds funny I didn't read the part Where there's children involved Here's my advice Go to church Find yourself Jesus Straighten up your life Everything else will fall in place Eventually Now let me assist Dan

Don't you think a guy That's following Jesus Could be in the same situation We don't know that the boyfriend Well He's made some bad choices I would say he's not Completely following Jesus If he's in that situation Or at all Now let me ask you Dan And it's a totally serious question Can you smoke indoors With your kids And still follow Jesus I don't think that has Anything to do with Jesus You don't think so What part of this makes Is it the live in The live in boyfriend Correct Get out of the way That's not fair You're taking one sin And putting it above the other Where does it say Smoking is inside or out Is a sin Well it's proven to kill you So are mashed potatoes And gravy And french fries Yeah but people can't get Second hand mashed potatoes With gravy poisoning Because they live with you Because you've over gravy I know I shouldn't have Sat next to Aunt Mel But She had double the potatoes I'm just saying Be careful what you're calling sin If it's sin If it's sin If it's sin I mean The bible specifically Talks about Them making a baby Out of wedlock Would be sin No word does it say Oh and you don't

Smoke on your house The bible also doesn't Directly speak on abortion I think I mean I think You're right In the technicality here Yeah I think it's pretty Pretty clear on abortion The shedding of innocent blood Whether it was born or not It's pretty Pretty Well the distinction Is life or not But I guess what I'm saying Is just because It doesn't You know what A lot of times People will try to make That argument That Jesus never Specifically said That homosexuality was wrong Even though it was clear In Paul In the Old Testament Yeah That's what I'm saying Is like if you're Just because it's not explicit Doesn't mean it's not implied By the other moral laws That are instituted biblically Right So what you guys are doing Is you're being poisoned By the American Cancer Society And their evil input Into the pop culture Through music I asked you a general question I didn't advocate For one or the other I'm a smoker Dan I don't know I don't know What you're trying to I've never had a smoker In my life I understand what's going on here I stock cigarettes tonight Nathaniel sells cancer to people

Dan has never used it I have a problem with it Nathaniel sells it to people I don't smoke I'm just saying But I love second hand smoking Because it's pretty realistic If you're calling the smoking a sin Or if it's okay to smoke outside But not inside I don't know That's biblical It's stupid Yes Is it completely foolish Yes I think it's selfish Is it selfish Yes I think it's selfish To second hand smoke Around children Sure I agree Hey I grew up in it I hated every minute of it I really do like it though And dad got mad If you rolled down the window What are you doing I can't breathe Yeah anyway That was a great time So I can identify with that But I can't say that was sin Well it's a good thing You don't call it then Alright Because I say it is We'll just ask Jesus We will ask Jesus Good thing we have the great mediator So you're saying It's a sin To smoke inside But not outside It's a sin I think it's a sin If your children Do not have the chance To get away from what you're doing If you put your children In a situation That's detrimental to them That they have no choice

But to I'd be the same thing As if you buy only Groceries that aren't good for them You're saying like If you only feed your kid Twinkies You didn't give them a chance To eat something else Yeah And mashed potatoes Yeah You gave them regular soda Not only did you Sugar soda Yes God knit them together And you poisoned them with ho-hos Explain that one to the creator Yeah I saw this beautiful gift Of blessing that you gave me And so I shoved Twinkies and ho-hos And smoked it in the bathroom Terrible Yeah Poor shame Yeah Anyhow it lifted my eyebrows That means we were done You can eat Twinkies outside But not inside Is that what you're saying No you can't get second hand Twinkie poisoning Dad you have to talk Apples to apples You can't just start Spouting off in the mouth That is true dad You're like the worst theologian I've ever met Seriously I skipped the theologian classes Like it says in Deuteronomy Whatever Do what you want You're all dead Take your feces Outside the camp I don't think You don't do that in here It's probably not This issue is probably not important Nathaniel your take on Dwayne the Smokered Boyfriend Just

Don't smoke man Stop it Helpful Hey no he's right Tonight a kid came in And he was like Hey are those electronic cigarettes And he was like 10 years old And he tried to buy some off me Hey One of those blew up In some guy's face Did you see that No It was Yeah Someone was like Had one of those electronic smokes And it just like Totally blew up on Like the battery blew up Well that'd be Scarred him something fierce Embarrassing Hey But he's right They are safer Cigarette They've got that anti-burn stuff in them Yeah that does Is that a chemical It'll still burn for 30 seconds That's enough to catch the place on fire Yeah Yeah It's just It's a bunch of leaves on fire I mean seriously Even 30 seconds Is probably enough To start something ablaze Why do you gotta smoke While you're sleeping Seriously I mean And if it's that bad You're falling asleep I mean Was it really worth it I'm just gonna have one more Speaking of I mean that's It's like It's like It's like

It's like opening up The twin pack Of ringdings or whatever And you You ate one And then you're like So tired And now you regret it That you've already Opened up the thing It's gonna be bad in the morning Now you have to eat Both ringdings Like that's That's what this guy Has done to himself I've never been pressured By my almost falling asleep To do something else You know what I'm saying Like I've never been like I'm almost tired I best do something real quick Before I fall asleep I better line up quick Like I'll run to the bathroom That's about the only thing That'll say like I better do this Before I go to bed Otherwise I'm gonna have to Get up and do it In the middle of the night Okay Let's hear the text Thanks Nathaniel For your two bits So my So actual advice If this person Were asking you advice She needs to separate She needs to get out If she's worried for her life And her child's life If they're not married Leave Yeah So like Either you're over exaggerating Or you need to go Like those are your two options And if you're not over exaggerating You need to split I don't know

You're not really leaving That terrible of a situation You're not married to the guy He's a bad influence He has a separate bedroom Yeah He sleeps in separate bedrooms Tries to burn it down Yeah physically I mean there's danger in there Physically Yeah I just split I mean Not one more time Maybe that's what he needs To recognize that you're serious I will not permit you To let us burn alive Boy that'd be really embarrassing You know like Dude she left me Why man Because I fall asleep When I'm smoking She's afraid I'm going to kill her I'll just get drowsered I take too much NyQuil And then I start to smoke And then You know Just a few minor burns You know how it is baby I'm just trying to change my ways The mattress always goes out eventually Oh boy Okay here's the Here's the Alright Here's the advice from the secular Go to church Dear Scared Because Dwayne is unwilling To be more responsible It's time to consider Your son's safety And your own Your boyfriend is not only Addicted to tobacco He's also misguided If cigarettes were safer now There wouldn't be burn holes In his bedding And the area around Where he sleeps I like that it's really obvious

Where he sits Because there's a bunch of Burn holes all around him Like he doesn't go anywhere else And how does he look at that And go No it's good No I'm fine It doesn't happen here Seriously Everything is totally safe He's just a small burn mark He's like one of those hoarders Like people who don't realize They have a problem You should take up the pipe Or something Anyway If moving isn't feasible At least make sure There are working smoke detectors In your apartment And an extra one Outside Dwayne's bedroom door That's lame No Frankly It would be healthier For you and the boy If Dwayne didn't smoke At all in your apartment Because the EPA Has classified Secondhand smoke As a group A carcinogen To verify this Get further information Contact the American Cancer Society Also known as Those evil people Who are trying to convince you To give up your rights Oh man Boy that's That's pretty bad Hey oh alright So let me cut in On your On your Dear life in the path The Reason Rally Is an event sponsored By many of the country's Largest and most Influential

That seems bad Like not even Just someone who Says like Who's promoting Atheism But like I feel Like my kid Would be being Used in this Particular instance Like it's just Like a celebratory Thing just to get Them in front of People and say Look what we Can do I don't know Why are you Looking at me Like that What I understand What you're Even saying Here's what it Sounds like to me That some crazy Just like kids In high school Do they get all Fired up about Something they Make a way big Deal out of it Because they're in High school and They just want to Wear somebody's Daddy's pants And then all Of a sudden The atheist Organization says Hey you know People are paying Attention to you Let's let her Speak so we'll Just get more Attention for Ourself Is that basically What you're saying

In There For People I Thought That Was Illegal I Don't Think You Could Illegalize People Putting Money In A Parking Meter Where Do They Care Where The Money Comes From I Don't Know I Just You Know I Assume That It Was Illegal I Don't Think So I Think You've Been Affected By Pulp

Culture I Think I Have You Been Listening To Madonna I Think I Saw It On Inside Edition One Time It's Going It's Going In The Till If You Tape The Nickel To The Parking Meter That's Bad She Didn't Even Say She Tape The Coupon She Just Said She Set It On There So

She Just Brings Stuff Into Stores And Leaves It There And Then If She Looks At The Item And Says Well Maybe I Don't Need This Then She Leaves The Coupon On Top Of The Well Coupons Are So Awesome Then They Don't Have To Buy It Yeah They Don't Have To Buy You Know

I Don't Want To Put It On The Internet I'm Not That Good Technology But They're Going To Come In Here And They're Going Find It With An Argument That Week I Can See You Are Truly Wrong Yeah Seriously Bixtape It's Like The Same Thing I Just Made My Own Cereal And Brought It

Here In A Little Bag And They'll Like My Cereal Better Than The Quaker Oats Yeah Exactly Yeah Seriously It's Having At You I Mean They're Right It's Not A Complete I've It's Pretty Straight Up It's Not Working Out For You Fell Here's What It Says Here's What Secular Says Of Course You're Not

Being A Litterbug You're Being Generous And I'm Sure Many If Not All Of The Coupons You Leave Have Been Put To Good Use Since You Asked For My Thoughts I'll Share One You Have A Critical Husband Who Is Faulting You Rather Than Compliment You On Your Generosity Shame On You Guys Are Terrible

That Is Awful Oh Man I Would Leave Him Immediately Okay Let me Roast Up One More Here Actually Hold On To That So Let Me Give You Our We're Running Out Time We Gotta Get This In This Is Number Three On The List Of The Top Five YouTube Clips On The Life From The

Path Channel Since Inception Number 20 It's Friday It's Friday They're Opening For Cutlass And They'll Be At The Seven Flags Event Center You Can Still Get Tickets At The Seven Flags Event Center Website And These Are Really Good Friends Of The Show They've Been A Number Of Times This Is Syndrome Of Fire

At The Number Three Most Watched Item On The Life Of The Path YouTube Channel Syndrome Of Fire With Best Two Live From The Path Syndrome Of Fire With Best Of Me What do I mean No it Wasn't Yeah it Was I got Distracted With Best Of Me That's A Number Three Watched Item And Here's The Deal Is

That Particular Video Was In A Tight Contention With Our Number One Video For Quite A While And Was Beating It And The Syndrome Of Fire Folks Had A Good Laugh At That They Were Pounding Our Number One Video But The Number One Video Has Come Out Vindicated Have You Seen The Number One

Video Nathaniel I Don't Believe So Alright So We Got Two More We Got Two More Coming Up Alright Mike What You Got Dear Life From The Path I Have A Coworker Amber We'll Call Her Who Has Always Been Large She Has Looked Like She Was Pregnant The Entire Two Years I've Known Her

She Can Also Be A Liar And An Attention Seeker I Am Pregnant For Real Soon After Amber Found Out She Began Telling Our Co-workers That She Too Is Pregnant With Twins She Has Said This Before And She Faked A Miscarriage She Now Bringing Ultrasound Pictures To Work That I Discovered She Had Downloaded

From Google Images Everyone Knows Amber Is Lying But She Keeps It Going Like She Believes It Herself Abby Should I Try To Savor The Embarrassment And Tell Her Everyone Knows She Is Faking Or Should I Just Sit Back And See Where The Lying Gets Her Sit Back Because Within A Few Months It

Will First Of All Don't Ever Use The First Page Of Results Man Like If You're Going To Download Ultrasound Pictures You Go To The Eighteenth Page Where People Will Not Have Gone So Far But You're Easily Found Out By Using The First Or Second Page Of Results Why Do You Know So Much

About Attempting Forgery I'm Just Saying I Know Where This Came From Yeah What's The Matter With This Woman I Mean Seriously Something Something Has To Be Not Right Yeah There's Something Yeah She Needs More Help Than She Does Criticism She Needs Guidance Both Of Them Have Issues I Her Because We Were Going

To Have A Baby I Give A Ripple What My Co-workers Say About It I Don't Care But I'm Pregnant Too With Twins I Got You Up One That's Kind Of The Hope You Know More Babies Than You Something About Girls In Office All Together They're Just Catty And I Don't Mean That Negative

Against Women It's Just The Way It Is And You Know Guys Are So Different Like What What Do Guys Do Different We Just Don't Care We Can Call Each Other Hey Fat Boy And Walk Away And We've Already Forgotten About She's Bringing Back Stuff From Months Ago Yeah She's Always Been Heavy I

Mean What If They Laugh Hey Fat Boy Well Then I'm Offended That's Too Far What If You Got Other People Involved Don't Laugh At Me I Want A Medium It's Just The Difference Of How Guys And Girls Interact With Each Other And That's Kind Of The Case There They're All Kind Of Getting

Together And Scratching And Calling And Really It Doesn't Matter It's All Going To Come Out In The End Yes I Think She Needs Medical Facility Attention Like That's A Crazy Elaborate Ruse Like I'm Pregnant With Twins I've Downloaded I mean Maybe The Other Ladies Got It All Wrong And That She Actually Is Pregnant

With Twins And You Think She Uploaded Her Old Ultrasound Onto The Google Images Maybe Like Sometimes If you post Stuff On Facebook It'll Come Up On Google Images Too Yeah But I Have No Faith That This Lady Has Twins Yeah You Might Be You Might Be Giving Her The Benefit Of The Doubt Wouldn't It

Be Embarrassing If She Does Have Twins Yeah And Like And She Was All There Me You Get All Upset About Stuff And I Was Like Oh Wait I Really Do Have Twins Would It Would It Be Hard Not To Go Where Are Your Twins Margo Yeah That's Kind of mean I Don't Know If

I Don't Say That All Right Let's Hear Really Expecting Your Coworker Appears To Be Mentally Disturbed This Is Something That Should Be Discussed With Amber Supervisor So Perhaps An Intervention Can Be Done And She Can Get The Help She Needs As Much Of A Concern As This Is For You It Should Be

Even More So To Her I I That I Know She Is Kind Of Making You Mad With Her False Pregnancy But Really It's Your Boss That Should Be Mad Because She Needs Mental Help And She Loosening Productivity Because There's No Way To Predict How She Might React If Her Fantasy Is Threatened You

Should Not Be The Person To Question It Send Someone Else In If She's Taking Time From Work For OBGYN Appointments Where Boyer Could Request A Note From The Doctor That Would Take Some Stones That Awesome I Mean To Fill Out The Ruse You Certainly Have To You'd Have To Do It Right You'd

Have To Claim Doctor's Appointments Yeah I Don't Know It Depends If You Got A Male Boss There's No Way He's Asking For That That That's A Show Me You At The Ladies Doctor I Tell You It Would Be Awful Awful Awful To Be A Boss In The Secular World They're Just Babysitters I

Mean That's Just Two Girls In A Cat Fight In The Sandbox I'm Pregnant You're Not You're Really Not Pregnant I Got Twins It's Your Boss's Problem I'd Be Like Don't Talk Hey Work It I I Don't Care If Either One Of You You're Pregnant I Would Claim My Head Indigestion I'm Constantly Sick

You Know What I'm Pregnant Forget This I'm Feeling Kind Of Hormonal Right Now Dear Life From The Path I Have Been Dating Jared Who Is The Nephew Of My Sister's Husband Hold on A second Nephew Of My Sister's Husband Nephew Of My Brother In Law The Brother In Law's Nephew Okay I'm With You Weird

Relationship I Was Widowed At 22 I Am Now 27 And This Is The First Relationship I've Had Since My Husband Died I'm Not Sure What To Do Is It Wrong To Date Jared How Do I Introduce Him To Family And Friends They Kind Already Know I Guess My Sister Always Refers To Him

As Her Nephew That Makes Me Yeah I Agree I Mean I Been In A Situation Like That Because With It We're Like If You There's No Blood Relation But It Feels Like Something Might Be Weird But I Mean It Is What It Is Either You Got A Problem Or You Don't Have A

Problem Live Your Life 20 Man Whittled At 22 That's Rough said Let's See If It Says What Happened I Used Says Yeah There's Really Not Much Discussion There Says Because Jared Isn't A Blood Relative Your Relationship With Him Is Not Sensuous Introduce Him To Family And Friends As Jared The Friend You're Dating

If The Relationship Becomes More Serious Introduce Him As Jared Your Boyfriend But Please Stop Feeling Guilty About Your Relationship Because You're Doing Nothing Wrong Yeah Yeah That Was Kind Of Late Oh I Got One More Oh That Was Not Good We Won't Do That One Why Not It Has To Do With Dad

Passed Away And They Found Out He Was Gay Yes Give It We're Not Helpful No We're Not I Like It Yeah I Didn't Have One Ready That's Why I'm Kind Of Still In Here Fair Enough Nathan So Did Hear That Paul McCartney Stopped Smoking Weed Like Today Like As Of This Last Week

That's Not Stuff You Tell People What If He Fails Well Everyone Will Know That That Would Be Embarrassing That's What He Said How Old Is He You Know He's Old He's Like 60 Isn't He's Got He's Got An Eight Year Old Daughter And He He Said He Was Going To Stop Smoking Weed

Because Of Her And I Find It Funny That It Took Him Eight Years You Know You're Kind of Getting Old I Should Probably Stop Doing I Love You So much That I'll Stop Smoking Weed In Eight Years Thank You I Would Have It Is A Goofy I Will To Change My Ways Eventually Now That

I Love You Starting To Slow Down You Know Where Is A Twinkie It Is A Constant Promise Though I Don't How Do Ladies Gotta Stop Permitting Guys With Those Types Of Promises Because Guys Are Making That Promise All The Time I I'm Stop That Baby I'm I'm I'm Get This Thing Right And

I Didn't Know What I Wanted I Was Young And Confused Yeah Yeah Yeah Take me Back It Wasn't Right In Mind I Don't Like It Are You Ready Yeah Let's Go Okay Last One Yep Dear life From the Path I Married Andy A Year A Go He Has Three Children From A Prior Marriage He Had

A Vasectomy Eight Years Ago But Promised He Had Have It Reversed So We Can Have A Child Together He Didn't Get Around To Doing It But I Am Pregnant Anyway At First We Felt It Was Our Miracle Baby However Fifteen Weeks Later Andy Is Now Sure The Baby Is Come Daniel I Can't

Say That I Have Ever Experienced Anything Even Remotely Close To That So The Assumption Is That It Actually Is A Miracle Baby Right She Is Not Copping To Having Sprouted The Child From Elsewhere She Says She Didn't Do She Said She Didn't Cheat On And This Dude Apparently Got A Mastectomy And It's

Probably Been Bad Ever Since He Had It It's Just The Timing Just Hasn't Worked Out For Eight Years And This Time The Timing Worked Out And Now She's Pregnant And He Figures The Vasectomy Is Foolproof And Says That's Not My Baby You Had To Cheated On Me That's Drinking You Can't You Can't

Blame Him For Questioning Oh Yeah Yeah And You Can't Blame Her For Being U That He's Questioning It Is It's A Tough Spot The Guy Needs To Kind Of Chill Out Until The Baby Is Born And Then They Can Do The Test If He's Really That If He Truly Doesn't Trust His Wife

It's Easy For Me To Say Sitting Here But I Would Just Trust My Wife Here's The Deal Given Given His Situation I Don't Know That It Matters To Be I I Mean He'll Know The Other Two Kids Are His Okay That's Different I Was Gonna Say I Mean If You Had Other Kids

You May Not You May Be Stuck Anyway They've Only Been Married A Year And She's Pregnant And He's Going Yeah That's Pretty Tricky I Mean I Think He Could Do A Modest Search And Say Even Even That Is Vasectomy Is Not A 100 Thing I Yeah Maybe They Only You Got Half Half

Of Yeah I Mean It's A Cut It's A Cut And Tie Yeah It Would Have To Untie And And Back Together Remorphosize It's A Miracle Baby It Happens It Does Happen All Right Well Not Very Often But It Does Oh That's A Miracle Baby Right There Let's Get The Secular Advice Then We're

Going To Watch A Video It Says Yes Other Readers Have Had Other People Who Watch Life In Bath Have Had This Situation In Those Cases The Vasectomy Had Somehow Reversed Itself Without Surgery Like An Amorphous Blob Your Husband Should Consult A Urologist And Have His Sperm Levels Checked It Can Provide The Proof

He's Looking For For A Lot Sooner Than Your Due Date That's True Because This Has Been Emotionally Devastating For You Which Is Understandable Talking With The Therapist Will Be Beneficial Regardless Of What You Decide About Your Marriage Bummer Didn't Have To Tack That On At The End Talking With The Therapist Will Be

Beneficial Would Suffice Not Not Tacking On If You Decide To Stick With Your Marriage Or Not Not An Option Once You're In You're In Yeah In The Trenches Well That's A Tricky One That's A Tricky One Because You're Saying Either I Believe This Baby Is A Miracle Or My Wife Is Cheated On

It's A Miracle Man It's A Poorly Done Vasectomy Why Is It So Hard To Understand I Just Kicked Some Wires The Guy Didn't Do A Good Job Sorry Mike I Got Rid That Was Good That Was Good Was Good Clip Right There Anyway It's Not It's Not A Miracle You Know I'm Saying

It's Just A Poorly Done Medical Procedure Yeah I Don't It's Just Awkward It's An Awkward Situation It's An Unfortunate Situation I Mean I Think Any Realistically Anybody Would Say Hmm I Wonder Personally I Would Be Going Thank You I Have To Get That Reversed It Happened Well You Still Got To Go In

There Get It Done Again It Doesn't Work They Wanted To Have I Mean They Were Going To Get It Reversed So That Might Be It Be A Big Thing I Can't Imagine Saying I Don't Know The Process Of Getting It Reversed But Sounds Bad I Guess It's Not Getting It Done That's What

I'm Thinking That's Just Kind Of Small Hole Cut Stuff It In There Like A Turkey You Don't Worry About It But To Fix It You Have To Unless It Goes Back Together Amorphosis It I Don't Know I Figure Like If It Goes Back Together It Knows Something You Don't Let It Ride I
