Segments

  • Opening song, welcome, and show preview 0:00–3:50
The episode opens with a produced song about being a working man for the Holy Ghost. A host welcomes listeners to Live from the Path on Des Moines Amplified, introduces himself as Ben Foost, and jokes about wearing a hat to cover his bald head glistening under the studio lights. He previews the first hour's theme – following Christ in your job, including the perspective of a professional musician – and announces two new features: live audience Q&A in the second hour and a weekly YouTube question inviting video responses from other churches.
  • Eye-doctor prescriptions and the 'deep cut' story 3:52–8:49
A host asks Mike, addressed by name in the studio, about his run-in with the eye doctor. Mike recounts two eye clinics sending bills with blank prescription details, suspecting they withhold prescriptions to force in-house glasses purchases. Another host tells of a tree limb gouging his eye and mishearing the optometrist's diagnosis as a 'deep cut,' plus jokes about tiny legal print in an eye doctor's office.
  • Chase Jacobs introduction and homemade Fig Newtons 8:49–14:33
A host introduces studio guest Chase Jacobs, who says he is originally from Portland, Oregon and now lives in Kansas City. After joking about Girl Scout cookies, the conversation turns to a host's attempt at homemade Fig Newtons – dubbed 'Ben Newtons' to dodge licensing trouble – and whether a fig is a nut or a prune, ending with agreement that the homemade batch was terrible.
  • Johnston pancake-breakfast fundraiser debate 14:33–26:14
A host recounts taking his family to a Johnston fire-station pancake breakfast fundraiser before a parade and walking out over the $8-per-person price ($16 for two, kids free). The hosts debate whether the price is outrageous for a fundraiser, compare it to their own expensive show merchandise, and joke about Johnston wealth, Casey's donuts, and scoping the fire station for plasma TVs.
  • Buddy Holly impersonator and pancake stories 26:16–31:09
After a callback to the 'not a fan' running joke, a host recalls a wedding-day pancake breakfast at the fairgrounds featuring a Buddy Holly impersonator he considers not very good. The hosts riff on impersonators generally – the economics of picking a B-list artist nobody else impersonates – and joke about staging a rival $7 pancake feed across from the fire station.
  • Christian musicians on objectionable secular programs and public judgment 31:10–39:52
Prompted by something Mike came across, a host poses a hypothetical: the Christian band Need to Breathe appears on the Howard Stern Show, behaves decently, but lends credibility to a host known for poor morals – did they overstep? A real-world anchor: blues guitarist Jonny Lang, a born-again Christian, drew online scorn from a fan who skipped his church concert because he had appeared on Stern. The hosts argue for being 'light in darkness,' citing Jesus eating with Matthew the tax collector, and debate how Christians should question other believers publicly versus privately, warning against Pharisee-like self-righteous judgment.
  • Moral boundaries for a Christian DJ and other work 39:52–47:32
A host describes sticky situations in his DJ business when the job he is hired to do conflicts with his convictions – what music he will play, what gigs he will take. The hosts generalize to other work: whether to take jobs from companies whose business you do not condone, and how explicit to be about faith, with one host noting he does not promote himself as a 'Christian DJ' who plays only Christian music.
  • Show promos: YouTube, archives, and comments 47:32–48:58
Mid-show promos: the hosts plug the show's YouTube channel, archive shows and podcast signup at livefromthepath.org, and the comment feature under the shows tab.
  • DJ and remix comedy, Stomp, and Vocal Trash 48:58–53:14
The hosts riff on DJ craft – beat-matching songs of different tempos and keys versus just letting songs play – with a wedding-DJ remix comedy bit and a joke remix of 'Hammer Don't Hurt Em.' They discuss the performance groups Stomp and Vocal Trash, debate whether their performances are live or recorded, and marvel at oddball human tricks on YouTube.
  • 'Not a fan' shirt explanation and accents game 53:14–56:20
Prompted by chat comments about his shirt, a host explains the 'not a fan' slogan: 'I'm not a fan of Jesus' – a fan is fickle, in-and-out with the season – 'I'm a follower, not a fan,' and mentions the notafan.com website. The segment also includes a callback to last week's geography embarrassment with guest Karen Thompson, an 'African name' guessing game, and complaints about people being outraged at the hosts' international accents.
  • Living as a Christian at work and conversational witness 56:20–1:06:39
Returning to the Jonny Lang example, a host raises the broader question of how Christians conduct themselves at work: how direct to be about faith without being obnoxious. The hosts discuss conversational witness – intentionally slipping in natural mentions of Bible study or saying 'I'll pray about you' – and cite Paul's 'let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt,' noting that going straight to the gospel message can feel abrasive in a work setting.
  • Audience Q&A opens and Pathway Church announcement 1:06:39–1:08:22
A host opens the second-hour audience Q&A, inviting questions for the 'Live from the Path panel' via chat. While listeners think of questions, he gives the church announcement: the hosts attend the Pathway Church in Johnston, currently meeting at Wallace Elementary at 10 a.m. – with a running joke about his verbal tic when introducing the church – then the conversation drifts to Men in Black and Law and Order.
  • Dan's hair, the VBS fundraiser, and Samson 1:08:22–1:10:52
The first chat question asks what is going on with Dan's hair. A host explains: for one Vacation Bible School he promised kids he would shave his head if they raised $1,000 for missions (they usually raised $150-200); they did it, he liked short hair, and now grows it out between cuts. The hosts connect it to Samson, discussing the actual Judges narrative – his woman problems, killing, demanding water from the Lord – as darker than the kids' version.
  • What workplace demand would justify quitting 1:10:53–1:16:10
A chat question asks what would cause the hosts to quit a job – what would cross the line for their faith. A host recounts turning down a contract to clean a porn shop: not a public crusade, just a polite 'I'm not interested.' The hosts land on the principle that when a job forces a choice between what Jesus said and what the boss said, you choose Jesus and quit or refuse.
  • Personal temptation and the nude-art boundary 1:16:11–1:21:03
Continuing the porn-shop example, the hosts discuss personal temptation: professional access does not make anyone immune, so you keep yourself out of temptation's way where you can. They debate where nude art ends and pornography begins, landing on intent and personal response as the key factors rather than a fixed line.
  • Faith-based investing and corporate-revenue screens 1:21:03–1:22:40
A host raises faith-based investing: as a stockholder you own the company, so do you want to own one profiting from pornography, tobacco, drugs, or alcohol? The hosts discuss faith-based mutual funds and the difficulty of tracking holdings inside broad mutual funds.
  • Tobacco, alcohol, addiction, and church judgment 1:22:42–1:28:25
A chat question asks whether smoking tobacco and drinking are sins. The hosts answer no, not inherently – in moderation – but drunkenness crosses a spiritual line, and addiction changes the calculus. They discuss the 'body as a temple' argument versus french fries, health, and how churches judge smokers and drinkers.
  • Birth control and vasectomy discussion 1:28:26–1:30:21
A chat question asks whether birth control or vasectomies are appropriate for a Christ follower. The hosts discuss different methods – distinguishing contraceptives that block fertilization from those that flush a fertilized egg – and note the moral weight shifts if life begins at conception.
  • Conception, abortion, and an ectopic-pregnancy testimony 1:30:21–1:34:46
The conception discussion continues into abortion and a personal testimony: a host recounts his wife Cheryl's ectopic pregnancy, the crisis of being asked to choose, and learning the pregnancy could never develop – with weeks of recovery – while people watched the couple in crisis and came to faith.
  • Threats forcing denial of Jesus, lying, and biblical examples 1:34:46–1:44:06
A host lays out outrageous hypotheticals debated on a drive to Webster City: a crazed man threatens to shoot you, your wife, or your kids unless you deny Jesus – what do you do? The hosts cite Matthew 10:32 on acknowledging Christ, debate whether lying to a lunatic differs from denying Christ, and discuss biblical mistruths: Rahab hiding the spies, Abraham on his wife, Moses, and Ananias and Sapphira. A detour covers felt-board Sunday school, a Trinity Broadcasting Network movie about Joseph's death, and the symbolism of Jesus walking on water.
  • YouTube question setup pause and dumpster comedy 1:44:06–1:48:16
The hosts announce this week's YouTube question, aimed at churches, then fill time while making 'minor adjustments': impressions of the area, a joke about a drive-by shooting, a host's upcoming move, and an extended story about ordering a 15-yard dumpster that neighbors filled overnight – with jokes about swearing, post-it notes, and preaching the gospel to the neighbors.
  • YouTube question of the week: how churches use art 1:48:16–1:57:16
Re-recording the YouTube question of the week, a host asks churches: what are you doing artistically to further the gospel – is it important, do you have a worship-and-arts person? He cites a church in Ames that opened a live-music venue and argues the church has squashed artistic expression, leaving cheesy Christian films and fiction. The hosts recall Pathway's own creative history: a subtle grim-reaper/Satan drama by Rick Gray that spooked a visiting family away, a 'Trading Spaces'-style video series, and airbrushed murals.
  • Closing announcements and closing song 1:57:17–2:00:07
Sign-off: the hosts thank listeners, note the Monday 10-to-midnight slot on Des Moines Amplified, point to livefromthepath.org for archives and merchandise, invite questions for next week's open Q&A, and joke about a 'live vasectomy' before a closing song about the rapture.

I'm a working man, I get things done Work for the Holy Ghost, work for the Son I am a working man, oh yes I am I am a special agent of the man Now I'm gonna wear your cover in, I'm gonna wear your robe I'm gonna wear your righteous mane everywhere I am And welcome, you are listening to Live from the Path on Des Moines, Amplify.com Thank you so much for being with us tonight, we're glad to have you on I am your host Ben Foost, I'm wearing a hat tonight because my bald head was glistening in the lights of the fresh studio And I heard about it this week, so I'm gonna bow out and have to wear a hat for tonight There's still a small opening in your hat that reveals your baldness Right about that spot too Yeah, I would have worn a different hat What am I gonna do, what am I gonna do, you know I'm only one man, with one head and it's a shiny one And there's nothing I can do about it So we actually should have, I mean the show's got some good chances tonight It's got a chance, I mean other shows are hit and miss, this one has a chance tonight We got some stuff coming up, we are going to talk a little bit out, probably here in the first hour Following Christ and in your job and what that means And you know, how that affects the choices that you make in your life and your career And we're gonna kind of attack it from the perspective of, say a professional musician I know Mike ran into something this week that I thought was interesting, kind of along that line So we're gonna talk about that a little bit Also at the top of the second hour, we're gonna try something out Since there's not a lot of easy ways to communicate with us here in the studio I mean you can Skype us in, Skype is Des Moines Amplified And you can Skype us that way You can also interact with us on the chat But since that's mainly the way that you can talk to us One of the things that you'll tend to see on a radio show is the ability to ask kind of open forum questions And I think we're gonna introduce that starting in our second hour So if you can be thinking about that during the first hour And then we'll try to capture those on the chat And, you know, I'll write them down and we'll try to knock them out They can be, you know, about following Christ They can be about God They can, you know, I don't know, shoot around the radar I think that's cool with us So we're gonna try that out at the top of the second hour To kind of give you a chance to interact with us It tends to be where we lead the conversation And then you, you know, slightly comment on it As we overrun you and keep talking about whatever we want We're gonna try the reverse of that And give you a chance to ask some questions That doesn't sound as fun No, I don't We'll see what they ask It's boxers for me I'm out I'm not a fan of Dad Hunson I think that's gonna be the question I'm not a fan of this format at all Also, you know, this may end up in the first hour Maybe in the second hour

We're gonna introduce something To try to, I don't know, pitch some stuff out there For other churches to interact with We're gonna do some YouTube stuff We're on YouTube under Life from the Path And we're gonna ask kind of a general question For some churches to interact with And kind of see what everybody else is up to We are, as far as God sees us We're one church And I think we should start acting like it So Are they heavy questions? No, I don't think so You know, I don't know We'll see Maybe some weeks they will be Some weeks they won't be What kind of cologne did Jesus wear? Yeah Yeah, sent out a I don't know Whatever I'm gonna say is gonna be inappropriate So I'm gonna withhold Agreed So anyway, we'll try that I'll kind of let you know what our topic is for this week And then we'll get it posted on the YouTube And then what we'll do is We'll invite some other folks To do some video responses And we can take a look at those next week And talk about that a little bit further Just to see what everybody else is up to So That's kind of what we're looking at I think so far this week Mike, what were you saying before we got in here? You had a run-in with the eye doctor? Was that the deal? I'm gonna tell you something about these eye doctors Daniel This is the second This is the second This is the second time in a year I've gone to the eye doctor And one for an eyeglass exam And one for a contact lens exam And this is the second time Both establishments have sent me Like my lab results Of what my prescriptions are You know, whatever With nothing on it Like they just say Zero spheres

Maybe your eyes are bad Now here's the thing My eyes are terrible Like I So maybe there's something on it You don't know it They put no information on there They put no information on there at all Like I went there And they gave me a prescription of sorts But they won't tell me what it is on paper Because they don't want me ordering things From other people Oh, I got it Got it You should order from them Right So they send me Like the bill That says You know, whatever 80 bones on it But they don't say What my prescription was Or what my accesses are For my eyes Or whatever And I thought So where do you go? One of those like mall places? No, I went to I went to one legitimate One legitimate eye care clinic That was outrageously priced And then one slightly Unlegitimate one That would In the garage That would be in a bigger In a bigger facility That encompasses everything Than then has a small eye Dr. Tyson I went to that guy If we're talking about What I think we're talking about I went to that eye care center Oh, we're talking about In the big box And I I had a big gouge in my eye I was cutting out some trees In the backyard And a limb came up And poked me right in the eyeball And of course I let it go

Because I thought Wow, this will heal itself No problem So the next day I mean my eyes were dried out Something fierce And so I eventually Go to the doctor And I went to the ophthalmologist At the Not ophthalmologist Optometrist What's ophthalmology? Aren't they both of them? Is he the surgeon? I think yeah Ophthalmology is eye surgery He's surgery on eyes? And optometrist Is the regular dude He doesn't have skills To take a knife to it What is it? Wikipedia He's there Okay I'll Wikipedia Anyway So I go in there And he scares me Because I can't tell What he's saying And so he's looking In my eyes Because he's dyed it up With some yellow dye And he goes He goes Bin You're a deep cut And I said Oh goodnight What is deep cut? I've come down with deep cut Because I left And he goes No no Deep cut I said I don't know what you're saying But it's freaking me out Well it's red? Yeah And he goes No deep cut I say

Oh I have a deep cut in my eye And like And he goes Oh It's very big It's very Oh I mean he's got the He sounds concerned at the least He's got the bedside manner Of Dr. Mengele I mean It was Deep cut And so And so he's okay I feel And so he put some stuff in it And I don't I hope he didn't fill it With something I don't know what he put in there But I didn't have a choice I mean you can't buy Eye At the At the local pharmacy You know what I mean Liquid eye If you're running out of eye What do they put in there? It was creepy He was alright You know That's the thing about this guy So the two things That I took away From these eye experiences Is one There's no other medical profession Where you can just Send a blank bill That says We charged you $400 Let's say I go into the doctor For a broken arm They send me a bill That says We did stuff Period $400 You know We don't want you going somewhere else For your broken arm Right

You know I mean the dentist Can't send me an ambiguous bill That just says services You know But for some reason The eye doctor can You know And like the last time I called The one before this I called them And I said Look I need my prescription They said Well what do you need that for? And now I'm instantly angry Because I knew this was coming And I said It's none of your business They're my eyes Tell me what they do And they said Well We're going to have to have you Come in and sign for it I said Will you just mail it to my house This is outrageous They said Well I'm going to have to talk To the doctor about that I said I'll tell you what You put the doctor on the phone So I got the doctor on the phone And I said Just send me my prescription You're legally obligated To give it to me They're my eyes Hand it over He goes Yeah I guess that's not going to be a problem You're not going to buy your glasses from us I said No First of all You wouldn't give me my prescription Which is irritating Second of all Your glasses are outrageous I can go on the internet And buy them for 20 bucks

You know And you can And then The second thing I noticed Is I walked into I was walking into the optometrist's office And he's got like All the legalistic language In a frame You know And it's like this big I mean It is ultra small And it was the same dude And I said I said Hey don't you find it kind of ironic That you have super small print In the eye doctor And he goes I never noticed that was there I said The print is too small He goes He goes Yes That is Kind of funny I'm napping all the way to the bank I was like I can see how this appointment's going to go First of all I'm not funny Second of all He's probably got a chalkboard at the back For how many times it says Deep cut Freaky He has a little black ball Early in the morning Deep cut And he talks without the accent When he puts it in there There's another one under deep cut You know Before we get any farther than the show I just wanted to point out We do have a guest in the studio Chase Jacobs is here Chase Glad to have you in the studio Good to be here You guys are looking good We're cozy We're cozy Two headed reds

I don't know Just two fellas going about our business Where are you from Chase? Originally from Portland, Oregon I live in Kansas City right now Alright cool What brings you here? Just visiting him It's good to see him Des Moines Amplified People come from all over Yeah Just to be on the show Just to be on the show There were some Girl Scouts here Before any of you guys showed up Cookies? Yeah We got cookies a couple weeks ago Hey Where are they at? I don't know I'm hungry What are they ordering from you? Are you a Girl Scout? Is that a wreck? No I made some homemade Fig Newtons this week Homemade? Is that legal? Huh? Is that legal? I didn't call them Fig Newtons You just did? Nabisco Fig Newtons I called them Ben Newtons I don't know Something Ben Newtons I refer to them in a generic term So as not to run any licensing problems I don't want to sound like Really stupid However What do you put in a Fig Newt? Fig Dan? I don't even know what a Fig is It's like a nut Isn't it? Isn't it in a song A Christmas song They said the disciples picked from the fig tree And you thought I don't know what that is But they seem to be eating it I mean like who said

Let's go ahead and make a cookie out of this You don't have like But that's not your question Your question was what is a fig Now you're asking another question I know They're pulling it out of me They're pressuring What is a Newton? That's the more prevalent question Thank you Yeah I was wondering how people Get about to naming things after themselves Like I could never call something a fig foost You know it just It sounds dumb I don't know It's got no ring to it Now see I could do that You got a dance move don't you The foost Well it's It's not appropriate for radio You've done it But it's alright I only had to use it once And then I said I do And then that was it I never had to break it out again That's all I needed I totally did that You didn't use the same move I did did you? No I don't think so Should we be checking YouTube for this? Ooh It's got to be there I can put it up there Anyway these noons were terrible Well it's not surprising A regular fig noon is terrible What? I disagree You don't like a regular fig noon? No It's been They're terrible 30 years since I've had them Oh no No they're fantastic I disagree I agree with you Yeah they're great You're out of here Go back to Kansas

I think you I think you can I think you can overdo them Don't that make you like Use the toilet? Yeah They do promote You know I need a cleanse I want to have some home Big noodles Most foods and drinks Do have that effect Eventually Maybe I like to save my house Are you hungry? I'm not going on that toilet anymore I am not eating That's it I figured something out Chicken gives me the wind Yeah that Anyway they weren't very good I'm going to try again Have you attempted to make anything else homemade That is normally store bought? No No fig noons were my first shot at it But really do you get like fig filling? Yeah no no it's figs Like I use regular Now I made the mistake I was going to use fresh figs I use dried figs I don't know what a fig looks like Isn't it a nut? Or is it like a prune? Kind of like that A nut or a prune Easily confused I have no visual of a fig You're usually A fig looks kind of like an acorn Like it's about the size of an acorn But soft So I was kind of right Think of it as a giant raisin or a prune Yeah Yeah that's pretty close Or a nut Was your other option You just covered a lot of bases there So you could land it Like an elephant or maybe They're very good actually I was surprised

They're actually pretty good We ordered like a couple pounds of figs From some sort of co-op something And they were excellent And then that's what got me to think I could make my own fig newtons at home How did you make the newton part? The newton part is just It's figs and then like a cup of sugar And then you put it in for 45 minutes We've established that that's the newton part Is the other sugar That's the newton What else could it be? Well maybe the newton's the cake Are you saying the newton's the cake? Are they all those little square things? No see what I'm saying is like We don't know what the newton part is But we're going to name it the other What's the newton part? You made it It's got to be the brown outer covering Maybe the newton's the cake If the cake was a basic dough mixture The size of a baseball You flatten it out You put the fig stuff in the middle And you kind of flop it over And then you cook Did they come out looking like fig newton? No they were terrible How long does this take? This sounds like a giant waste of time The fig newton The fig part has to simmer for 40 minutes And then the other part has to bake for 30 You could go to your local grocery store for $3.99 If you wanted to eat steroid laced newtons Yeah And I wouldn't know that I wouldn't know that it's such a waste of time Unless I tried it once That's true And now I would know better I made apple dumplings once From scratch with my daughter And it took like three days I think Well it wasn't that bad It was hours Which is similar to three days For me it seemed like three days I never tried them Because I didn't want to be on the toilet He said that's it He's coming out sooner or later

I just don't eat I've already shared this With a couple of you guys in the room But Dan You know the parade The parade was great You know on Saturday And beforehand We got up early We're going to the The pancake breakfast At the fire station Yeah $8 a person $8 a person For a pancake breakfast Yeah And like And like I'm all for I'm sure I'm sure it's going towards Either the fire station itself Or maybe a charity Or I mean so It's a fundraiser deal And I also understand We're in Johnston So that also is What does that mean What do you say by that No I mean Obviously people have People have more money People have more money In Johnston I don't have any more money In any suburbism Yeah Well it's It's the truth So that's what I'm saying But anyways Yeah But I was like So we walk up And we're like Alright this is great We first looked at the fire trucks Jayden was excited And then we go over And the guy And it was funny How the guy just Just was right for it And he was like Alright guys it's great

It's going to be 16 bucks And your kids will eat for free And like Will they eat for free For the next couple weeks here Exactly Because So I'm keeping an eye When I drive to church every day To see if they got any Plasma tea New plasmas up Or something Because Gold laced doors Hey man No one forced you to eat At the pancake breakfast I didn't Whoever That's the point Who would think though Who would think You left Am I going to spend 16 bucks In protest Seriously you didn't pay You walked out How could I pay Did you start a fire on the way out How could I pay Well It's not like we committed to like Going in And like It was outside Well it wouldn't even matter Even if we went all the way in And we got out of the car Even if I don't care if it was Three flight stairs We were not paying 16 bucks For $2 for the pancakes So what do you care If they buy a plasma TV You didn't give them Any of the money Well True But I want to know What they're doing with the money Principle of the matter Yeah exactly So we went and got donuts For $3 at Casey's

Hash browns Eggs I mean No it was just I think there was sausage And there was pancakes And it was all you can eat But That's pricey I've never noticed No I think that's really stiff I think $5 is probably my limit Because $5 each I still may not want to pay $5 each But okay I think that seems reasonable I don't know You think $8 each I mean you can go get You can go get an omelet That comes with pancakes For now given We know Not at IHOP But you could go You know There's a certain line Where you're starting to talk Unreasonable I mean Mike is a wealthy electrician Apparently I mean he's I spend most of my time If you want $8 pancakes You come to my house I spend most of my time At Johnston Of course I'm wealthy I'll feed you pancakes any day Yeah I've got all the pancakes you need It seems to me to be slightly unfair That you're so upset at them I mean all you do Is just not use their establishment And go I mean you're basically saying That you would You're going to You're going to scope out the joint So you can go door to door Find out who went there And then call them all suckers In your free time Ding ding ding

$8 for pancakes You're a sucker Hold on now Because that doesn't have anything To do with the fact That that's an outrageous price You're missing the point here To you The point is not The point is not Whether or not I paid or not Is that Wow how can you ask For eight bucks a plate That just sounds crazy Is it like Chris's cakes Or something Or was it like a No I don't think so It was just like Some dudes frying up some pancakes You know I mean Yeah The pain grill Yeah but they're not In the business of making pancakes It's a fundraiser I don't know I think that's still pretty steep Well thank you I mean Well that's like You're in attack mode Mike Obama's already Taking all of our money I just don't I don't think I don't know It's a fundraiser Well yeah but you can raise funds Look what our life From the past Clothes cost We're not in the business Of making t-shirts So our stuff is extraordinarily expensive But we didn't make You know We don't have control We can't control How much profit there is But we can't control The ultimate price It's like It's like selling your wristband

And saying It's kind of like The firetrucks guys At some point you've got to Sit back and be like I don't know about Eight dollar pancakes Is this right? Yeah at some point You've got to Well yeah because You know you can make I can color you a picture And sell it to you For forty bucks It doesn't make it right I don't have to buy it either But I'm not going to Be mad at you Because you're selling A forty dollar picture I'll just go I guess I'm not interested Was it all you can eat sausage? Because I would have Pound it I think that was You know That was probably it too Eight bucks worth of sausage That would have guilted me into it You want to go Daniel? Let's do it You live in Johnson don't you? Yes We'll Dutch treat And then the funny thing is My wife said So we went over to the side And we were astonished But we went over to the side And like kind of discussed it And she says Well She says Why don't you just go ahead And get a plate And then you know We'll seat off your plate And I said I said we can't do that And I said first of all First of all How obvious is that going to be? Like you know in fact She's not hungry at all

She's going to sit here But I'll just take a plate Kids will still eat free And maybe we'll You know So Yeah that That wasn't going to work out I could not have had pancakes Before the parade though Yeah that was a long walk though I mean no I'm saying if I had There's one thing that works on me If I had pancakes Within 15 minutes Just pancakes? Just pancakes What about figs? Yeah I don't know He apparently can't identify a fig Yeah he doesn't know It could be a fig topping pancake And he wouldn't know Top to bottom What's it going to take? It's a squirrel Guinness As far as he understands There's a fig out in the yard So it's really like an $8 bathroom trip Is what it is I need to cool and cleanse I might need to get those undies In the vending machine If I don't get that Were there plenty of people there eating? Well it was It didn't look like a lot But we were kind of On the very tail end of it though So it was ending at 10 And that was also the reason I thought like Well I should have tried to negotiate I'm like look this is almost over You probably got pancakes Still sitting there I'm going to throw that batter away anyway Alright you're losing me At trying to like Negotiate with the cherry For cheaper pancakes Why not? Well we didn't But it's in my head

That would have been A sticker shock for me Yeah that's what it was And we just We didn't even imagine You think you'd have left though? Like do you think you'd have left? I would have done it That would have been all time Yeah but you're talking about like My wife doesn't work We got two kids And now they don't You know I don't expect them to To understand our situation But like There's a big difference Between some people And other people As far as financial wise So yeah Eight bucks to us You know If we were out living in Johnson Maybe we wouldn't care about it I would like to not care about Eight dollars a plate But my stage you know That's a little too much I like this top hat and cape scenario Of Johnson There's a bunch of richies Like walking around Tipping their head to people I don't think you probably see any I don't think you probably see any One bedroom Have you seen Dan's place? I mean he doesn't No offense Dan doesn't live in a mansion I mean he lives in a You gotta say There's a big difference between It is a Johnston ghetto It is the ghetto of Johnston Is it? That's what I say Yeah Well Ghetto of Johnston's probably It was built in like The 80s Our house was built in the 80s So it's like really old

For Johnston Nice Yeah I mean there is an older section But we're the ghetto Yeah The reason I ask you is I mean if there were Plenty of people eating That means they're raising The most money that they make And people If people are otherwise paying it They probably don't have Any reason to balk at it I probably I wouldn't have paid it I wouldn't Yeah that's all I'm saying Yeah I wouldn't have paid it I would have had to leave Yeah I'm obviously exaggerating A lot of areas here But like But Let me get my monocle out Yes that's $8 Are you Yeah My gold chain Plus tax credits And fundraising fees That'll be $75 For your pancakes What's What were the reason The money for? Was it like a I don't know That's the He was a snobby No you know Yeah I'm not sure What the It was going towards And I Yeah I'm not sure I'm sure it was going to support Either the station itself Or some other charity Or something You also assumed It was going to be less expensive What's that? You also assumed It'd be less expensive

I'm not So far your judgment's not working What do you mean? I think he's saying Don't trust yourself On what you should anticipate At a pancake breakfast In Johnston You're assuming it was going For a noble cause You also assumed It was going to be less expensive So I'm just saying True Right because if you would have Thought it was going to be 8 bucks And it was 8 bucks It would have met your expectations Well right never mind While it's shamed I thought it would be 8 bucks Maybe it was eye tests It could be It could all be traced back To the eye test The mobile optometrist There you go The ultimate racket The mobile optometrist Yeah that sounds legitimate You guys got a van? With no qualification Although I can hand out Black pieces of paper And charge you 80 bucks I can also draw an E In every direction Hey Do you know why Do you know why They do the mirror? I've been to the eye doctor Once in my entire life Really? Yeah And it's time Because now I'm literally having Trouble seeing now Which never in my life I've never had problems Well I'm going to drive Behind you Well certainly I got some funky Little reading glasses

And sometimes they help But you know They're like Well I asked the guy Last time I was in there Because you figure With today's technology They could just put a screen On the You know What's the mirror And the reflection Off the back of the wall And it gives away Two facts One All eye doctor's offices Are at least 10 foot long Because when they do When they say That your vision is 20-20 One of the 20s Means at 20 feet And so It's 10 foot this way And the mirror reflection Is the other 10 foot So wait Where is this mirror? That's what you look at When you do your eye test Like they cover up one eye And then you look at a mirror And there's a projection Of the ease I almost thought you looked Right ahead Well you look straight ahead And then you The mirror But the thing's behind you Yeah it's behind you And it's because They're judging your vision At 20 feet And that's why they do it What's the other 20? I don't remember 20 feet Look it up I could ask the guy But he most certainly Would give me The ambiguous information He'd mail it to you

But it'd be blank We can't tell you I have a question That's our secret Trade secret Yeah I went a long time Without going to the dentist And luckily there wasn't I mean I had like two cavities And so And I never had any cavities before So luckily It wasn't too much damage But it had been seriously Like at least three or four years Or maybe Probably three Something like that And they were like Alright you're pretty good Don't make it that long Before you come back to us You know Yeah Stop doing that Okay here we go 20-20 vision The numerator refers to The distance and feet Between the subject and the chart The denominator is the distance At which the lines That make up those letters Would be separated by A visual angle One arc minute Which for the lowest line That is read by an eye With no refractive error Is usually 20 feet Boy that denominator Really jumps up on you Yeah Wow Numerator you're like Okay I'm on board I understand this here Halfway there Boy arc line Anyway That's what's going on I have no idea What you just said The metric equivalent Is 6-6 vision Where the distance

Is 6 meters That's a devil's vision Perfect You know the guy Took my glasses too And he ran them Under the spectralizer And he's like And if you haven't Even done it in exam And he goes You know These glasses Are too strong for you I said if you already Know my prescription Where are we going He goes Well I just think They're probably I can get a general idea Of your prescription We can fine tune it With all the You may have a deep Goggles You know And he goes through He goes Nope Yep those glasses Are just a little Too strong for you We don't want them Too strong I said why He goes Not good for your eyes Like it was a question Like he was asking me Is this what you're looking for He's like give me 15-20 I'll take the best vision You got You know Can I see what's in the fridge Without opening it Give me those I can tell These are too strong Hey Pants By the way Pants says he'll pay 8 bucks for the pancake Of course he would Well actually he said

I wouldn't He agrees that I wouldn't pay it But said I'd have had him pay it Which is true That's probably true also Which is true I would have had Pants paid On my behalf Agreed That's no problem They do this every year For Green Day So Pants Next year I believe it's Father's Day Did I mention I'm not a fan Not a fan of Dan Anyway we went to The pancake breakfast On the morning Of our wedding Of my wedding We all went out To the pancake breakfast At the fairgrounds And Oh Kiwana's one Yeah I think it was Actually There was a Buddy Holly Impersonator there And I tell you what That man has I mean I don't know Like I see him Every once in a while And he just He's not good He's not good But he keeps coming back That's my only Buddy Holly Like if you If you're gonna do A Buddy Holly impression You need to be able To do crying And do it well Wait you're thinking Of Roy Orbison No Crying Yeah that's the guy Crying If you can do

If you're gonna do A Buddy Holly impression You have to be able To do Roy Orbison's Crying And do it well I used to deliver Newspapers Right across the street From the surf ballroom It was in Clear Lake For seven years Did you go in there? When I was a kid I don't I probably did it That place is not What it used to be Like they have a lot Of new Like new touring Hard rock acts Rocking through there now Really? Like they used to be Predominantly oldies And then like Like fringe stuff Like Latin things And blues things And whatever And that is not The case anymore Is this it? Crying I was alright Oh yeah Buddy Holly Slash Roy Orbison This is what What's this Has to do To be a good Buddy Holly impersonator? Yeah It's gonna come It's gonna come Busted in here real quick And you're gonna see it Hold on There it comes There comes the big finale Hold on Wait for it I had pancakes That's why I made that face

I'm gonna call him up I'm still an old guy Really? Yeah I feel like We've played it In places with people That have played With this young man In fact We played down At the Sweet Corn Something Valley Days In Where was it? Highland Park At Highland Park And I also used to live in Highland Park Really? So we played They shut off the street And play these corn days Or whatever And we're the band You know So we're playing And all of a sudden This kid come rocking up Looks just like Buddy Holly And his dad's got him By the shoulder And he says My son would like to get up And play some songs with you And I look at Ben And I say Alrighty And Ben goes Yeah You can play one That kid won't leave He was on stage We couldn't get rid of him Oh man He kept trying to play Bebop-a-lula And it would never end He was decked out too In some kind of like 50's hipster suit Yeah Like you know The kind you gotta plug in Yeah you can't casually Walk around like Buddy Holly

I mean you're for it You had to prepare for that It's not like Oh you just happened to Oh look at this I look like Buddy Holly Could I come up on stage? His old man was standing In the very front Doing like the swing snap Was he trying to get Everybody going in too? Yeah He was a leader He saw paid entertainment And he thought My son should be there But he didn't have to Go through any of the hoops I'm just gonna throw him up You know And he went up there 110% He wasn't It must have worked for him The kid's still playing He's still playing in town Yeah he is still playing in town Buddy Holly's a national I mean here's what you have Going for if you're A Buddy Holly impersonator People already like Buddy Holly And they like his tunes So you should be Doing a lot It's true You don't have to learn Any new material You put it in about Six months You're done Yeah there probably is There's probably one per state He was Yeah You know what you gotta do You gotta find that B list artist Where no one else Is doing an impersonating Yeah and then you can rock that Even if you're not Your niche Yeah even if you're not

Really great at it Yeah It doesn't matter Because there's no other company Yeah there's nobody else doing it You can go 80% Like Katie Lang I don't know if you want an impersonator Although being a fellow You could probably pull it off We need to have a contest We need to create something Some big event Like an impersonator? Yeah B list impersonator I don't know This is the event you want to have We're running a Christian radio You'll hear Daniel We're not here I'm talking about some We'll serve pancakes for seven Yeah there you go We'll set up right across the street Look at these Look at these hobos At the fire station Seven over here We'll have our own parade Get your seven Wow I like it We have a stage What else do you want? Yeah there you go We do have a stage Everybody wants our stage Funk used the stage Did he? Yeah didn't he Dan? What's that? Didn't Funk use that stage? Yeah he did We shill for anybody With that stage Yeah We'll do it Except for the eye doctor What's he going to borrow The stage for? Deep cut Did you see it? Yeah I saw him I really got to go to the eye doctor I'm going to do it

So Mike what was it What did you come across this week? Oh with the music deal? Yeah So we were talking about people That we wanted to have on the show But I tell you what Let me pose a question to you Who's a Christian artist that you enjoy? Need to Breathe Need to Breathe Okay we'll go with Need to Breathe Right So let's say that you found out That Need to Breathe National Touring Christian Act Made an appearance on The Howard Stern Show Okay And did an interview Are they wearing shirts? They're all wearing shirts They're fully clothed The interview went And the interview went okay Like they weren't participating in vulgarity Or you know Un-Christian like behavior But they were on the man's show And he's known for his Is he still doing a show? Oh yeah he's on satellite radio I didn't know how that went And he's known for his poor morals really I mean just bad moral choices And so Would you What would you say to that? Would you think Need to Breathe Overstep their bounds? Or made a bad choice? What do I think? Yeah what do you personally think? I would think if they were there Representing Christ I mean not in an You know Obnoxious way But just representing Being light in darkness I'd say go for it Be all about I mean Jesus hung out with Matthew Who was a tax collector

Who brought all those Tax collector friends That were all in the drugs Sex rock and roll I mean it was The darkest of darkness I don't remember seeing that Rock and roll In the gospels They had the lyre And the tambourines And they really rocked it Had funny holly glasses I stayed up I stayed up all night Playing my lyre I did see the intro To biblical hill Pack At the hallmark And it included a lyre Some incense And a tambourine See They rocked it But I mean It was a wild crowd It was It was Like today you'd think It would be the people Hanging out at Big Earl's That's like He went there Because that's the kind of Women that were there That's the kind of people there And he didn't go there To participate He went there To be light Because you know Of course he was god So he was light So I would have no problem With believers I mean that's what We're supposed to be Is light Would you not go to Their concerts anymore Or I would Here's the reason This came up So Ben and I

Were talking last week About you know Random people That we could skype Into the show And Johnny Lang Came up And Johnny Lang Is a blues guitarist And he had a couple Pop hits back in the day Like in the mid 90's I think I think he sang A song called Lie to me And it was very popular And whatever But he has He has since become A born again Christian And he's got some Really cool gospel tunes Out there or whatever But so I went And checked out His Facebook Figuring I could say Hey John Why don't you come on Live from the past You know Blah blah blah And I start reading His Facebook page And he was supposed To be playing at a church And I can't remember Where the church was But he was supposed To be playing At a concert at a church You know And people were commenting On it And saying wow Your show went really well And about 10 comments down There was some Some lady Had said Well I was going to go To your concert At so and so church But you're on The Howard Stern show

I thought you were A Christian I guess I can't go To your concert now And I read this And I was instantly Irritated at this woman Yeah Howard needs Jesus Well you know That's the thing Who's going to tell him If he goes Let's say he goes On the Howard Stern show And he doesn't He doesn't You know Let's say he's not Preaching the gospel You know He's not throwing it out there But he's promoting his career Because that's his job He's a music man You know And so you know He's still not crossing The Christian line Or doing immoral behavior But he is You know Yolking himself With Howard Stern Well the yolking Like from scripture Would be more of a Long term Business partnership Not a Hey I'll hang out At your show once Or I'll do a concert In your venue It'd be Hey will you be my manager Howard Stern Now do you think Maybe the question is Like I don't know Do you think You could have made A better choice Like You know what I'm saying

Like I'm not asking What What Concerned me With the lady was Is that If you don't want to Go to his show Just don't go You know Don't go Yeah don't make it extinct But don't But don't You know Don't put on your Judgment hat And start pointing fingers At people She's not a fan You know She is a fan That's the thing You don't like my shirt It's It's the presentation We'll put it that way But I guess Like I said The thing that was Irritating me about About this particular woman Was that Was that You know A Christian looking At another Christian You know Or a A Christ follower Looking at another Christ follower And And And And Totally pumping out Judgment at him Calling him out On a national skate Like You know This guy This guy is a A fairly popular

You know Touring artist And And comes in contact With more people Than I do In ten years You know And the fact that He continues to Proclaim himself A Christian You know I mean That's cool Yeah I think this is awesome You know And And She's calling him out And saying You know You know I thought you were A Christian Question mark I'm like Man That's really That's really Stitty ground Yeah why not send him A private message On Facebook Or Or write him Or you know Something Like why do you Gotta do that publicly Because there may be An explanation behind it And then You know How do you like to Call someone out Like that And then And then go Oh That actually was reasonable But I can't delete my message Everybody already saw it That's the thing That irritates me though

Is that like I don't think it's Any of your business You know It's like the Pharisee Said to Jesus Yeah well If he's a public artist Though I mean He may not have to Answer you But you may You may want to Question it You may just say You have a right to Question it But you probably Shouldn't do it publicly You may just say I'm praying for you That's it Right You know Yeah Like you can question it Or just make a decision You know I just I don't see any reason Why people get a past Judgment on this You know what I'm saying That's a self-righteous person That's exactly what I'm saying Which is what the Pharisees were And they say Oh Jesus hangs out With sinners and wine-bibbers Right Whatever that is Yeah what kind of person They're picking They're picking eats On the Sabbath You know This is a big hairy deal You know And so you know It just It really bothered me You know Like these are the people That are representing Christ followers You know

To other people You know I thought you know Finger point and what not You know If I see someone That has fallen As far as I can see You know That I think Has fallen off The Christ wagon You know They get my prayers And they don't get my judgment Now I will judge them On occasion He's not publicly You know Well definitely not publicly People will say hey Yeah I mean if I know them personally Then most certainly You know We'll talk about it You know But it's not like I You know Search people out And I write Jimmy Swaggart You know And say Jimmy You know What happened What were you doing in that You know So I don't know I was really disappointed You could say the same thing about us On our Des Moines Amplified We are With a lot of different shows That have a lot of different Viewpoints That would not be Really biblical True Yeah And so You know Right What's wrong with that We're hanging out with It'd be like someone

Sending you an email And being like Dan I don't appreciate The company you're keeping And I think you've made A huge mistake here I thought you were Christian See ya I told my 13 year old daughter Hey we're on Des Moines Amplified And so she She looks it up one day Assuming that's just Going to be our show All the time And she saw something That was quite shocking To her And what someone was saying Like going Whoa That's like Totally nothing We would condone You know And I'm like Well It's just a different show You know Right And so I mean It could be said But hopefully We're We have a I mean We don't really know The other Too many of the other people Yet No We have opportunities But it'd be kind of cool To get to know each other Yeah I think so And get to know each other And see Why do we think differently Like a pancake feed We could have a pancake feed We could charge Four bucks And that would draw them in

We'd draw in twice as many people And then you hit them With the price on the sausage On the back end But we charge them For the Kaibo use Sausage feed I would assume That you're serving bad food For four dollars Okay I'll go six I wouldn't though With pancakes though Pancakes you make in mass But sausage Like for fairly Yeah But I think for four bucks Sausage I would agree I think for four bucks You can accomplish Solid pancakes And solid sausage For four bucks I like this guy He brings people together He says How about Come on You don't like four You don't like eight How about five Compromise That's what it's all about Maybe it's the whole Petroleum based oil thing You know Now everything's going up They had to charge more And because you buy Sausage made of oil Exactly Exactly Or it takes oil to drive in here You know who's benefiting Obama BP Tell him more backdoor deals Daniel Did you know Obama Is secretly the president Of the sausage company He killed Jimmy Dean You're out He wouldn't take

Next week on Life from the Path Secret Service No it's interesting About the music stuff Because that's what I I shared before On one of the shows Is that You know with With my DJ business Like sometimes it gets Into that That sticky situation Where the The job I was hired to do And And Basically playing What they want to hear Isn't always what I feel It's You know It's appropriate For the certain crowd To be hearing Like if you're hired For a teen party And they want to hear All these certain songs And but So is it So the question is I guess ultimately Is like well should you be In the business then or not Because you know I was hired to do a job And you know Certainly there's going to be Some things that are Completely out of line That I'm just going to You know you're going to Draw the line And the parents don't want You to hear that I don't want you to hear that So but But for the most part You know you've got Edited music It's clean But just the What's being said in the songs Suggestive obviously

And so you know You draw the line between Well what is Is it my right Having been hired for the job To step You know Like they don't care about My personal convictions Necessarily Unless I were to just Promote myself differently And decide I'm not going to play that music You know So I don't know But it's kind of It's kind of tough Ethically sometimes Where you know You know And I think that's the I think that's the thing It's the honest part of it Say look you know I think it's only fair From a business perspective To make sure that that's clear You know Like if you have a line I think it's fair To make sure they know it What we were At the start of the truth project I remember Steve Dyson said Like WHA doesn't come to him With certain things Because they know He's not going to do it And you know He could do it But he's saying he's not And they don't come to it anymore And I mean that's just the thing I'm glad to do the stuff That's within my line And then pass that line I realize it's going to get done It's going to get done In this station It's probably going to get done In the chair that I sit in But it's not getting done by me And what's interesting too though Is that generally Like especially if you take

A teen dance party You know the 16 year old Isn't the one writing me a check So ultimately it's You know they may want to hurt I mean they may be upset If you drew a line But is it actually Sort of mesh up With what the parents want The line drawn anyways You know what I mean But you know Usually it's just You know None of the big swearing songs Obviously And that's not a problem anyways Because they're edited But then you know Like there's some There's some that are Way beyond the line But it's even like Usually you figure Radio songs are safe But a lot of those Are just really Really suggestive And you're just thinking I don't want to play this And have you do What you want to do To this song You know just It's awkward And so yeah I mean But the thing I don't necessarily Promote myself as Like I'm a Christian But I don't say Like well I'm a Christian DJ Like I only play Christian music Or something like that So You only play Buddy Holly Yeah Yeah and I bring him along He usually steals the show Yeah He just shows up Like you mind If I sing a song

I've got my son here 40 minutes later Yeah I don't know You know That stuff I think that's an Interesting distinction That you'll see A lot of times The The honesty of faith Is Is not translated Very well By the worldview That says Or by the perspective That says Like I agree That we're set apart But you know You still live in the world And there's still people That need that discussion And if you don't ever Engage those people You know How are you ever going To help them See what is it That they're missing You know And you shouldn't Compromise yourself It's actually It's all about simplicity Right If you are who you are And you're a Christ follower And you're You know You should be able To be a Christ follower In any situation You know And granted There's something to be said For avoiding Some certain situations Right Correct I mean I don't know If you know There's going to be

A rave somewhere You know Put on the Jesus shirt And you might be able To walk through it But don't hang around But I mean If you're living your life Honestly And following Christ In that You know You're not at risk For being in that situation And the only thing That can come out of it Is you may have Collected some names To pray for And you've been able To talk to a few people But you know Beyond that You know God put himself As the judge Specifically So that you're not doing it You have a job to do And the minute You start laying That judgment out You know Is the minute You start putting up Barriers for people To Christ And that's not What God wanted There's that compromise again Indeed Indeed Well because like You know Every once in a while If you're looking for You know Work as a DJ Or something Like not necessarily What I do with DJing weddings Or something But more like If you're spinning DJ or whatever

But you know There'll be an opening up At a strip club Or something And it's like Yeah Obviously That's a job I'm not going to take Even if I were looking For that type of a DJ gig You know It's like That's like an obvious line But then you have other And it's day to day You know Whether it's work at a company Or whatever it is It's the same Same kind of Decisions you have to make Or like It's the blurred line That's not always clear You know Where Sure I'm not going to take That job But When the junior high Girl wants to play Candy shop Yeah You know You're like This is the one That you know Candy shop Yeah We played that at church A few years ago Were you guys there yet You played that at church No We did it at church I did a summer series It was like America's top ten Or something like that We just went through The top ten songs And talked about the theme And each song And so It was actually

A pretty cool day We turned all the lights off It was just totally dark And it was a dark screen And it just Had the words Of the song And we were playing The music in the background And let them read the words Yeah And it was You could feel That people were shocked Of what it was really saying Especially because A lot of parents don't know They don't necessarily May not listen to that And they may have no idea It was like Hey this is what They're listening to Yeah This is like Number one in the nation Right now Your 13 year old daughter Is singing it One through ten Probably They're probably all not good You know what I don't understand Is it the DJ fellas Who like spin records You know How do you get this job You take music That people have worked hard To produce And then you fool with it You know I didn't want to put that there People put a lot of money Studios put a lot of money In these days You know And you put them on a record player And you go I'm going to mix this with this You know I mean What you did was okay man But really I think if we put it like this I'm going to distort it

You really love This new spin I've made You know You repeated a bunch of stuff Didn't you get a guy Remember when you wrote that You did some music For that one DJ Yeah Didn't that guy say He does beats Yeah Yeah I had a DJ Approach me one time He's like I need you to lay down Some piano tracks for me I said Okay You know And he tells me what to play And I hand it to him And he's like You know I should stop by your house And we can jam I'm like What are you going to do You know Yeah right Right Like I'm going to play the piano And you're going to what Like pound your fist on it Because that's essentially What you're doing with this DJ gig You take music that I've made And then you start fooling with it Making it sound ridiculous I don't know how you get this job We should jam That's great He's going to rap Yeah You know He's going to start pushing my piano around You know Yeah messing with it Who wants to mess with my music I just I gave him a CD It's like He's like I spin beats I'm like You go ahead and do that

Let me know when you make any money You call me up I liken it to a guy that breaks windows for a living It's like You may be able to do it pretty cool And it looks pretty neat when you did it But to what purpose I cannot figure out Like did you see I'm a window breaker down Business is kind of slow I do this job for free though Because here's the thing Is I have seen some of those guys And you can watch them for a couple minutes And I mean they're obviously talented They're doing something Yeah Of skill Right I just don't know why they're doing it Yeah I don't get anything from it Well And that's That's pretty much YouTube In essence You know A bunch of dudes That have learned to do some kind of oddball Human trick You know And it's kind of hip But then you're like Why You know To what end You know Did you come up with this And to that point You can find Live from the Path On the YouTube We've got a couple of dudes out there Enjoy Just to hit you with it You've been listening to Live from the Path On Des Moines Amplify.com You can find information about the show As well as archive shows On livefromthepath.org That also includes You can sign up for our podcast There's a little box there It's an orange box It says I don't know

Yeah I'm up What are you going to do I'm up You can jam Yeah You can come over to my place And kick my stuff around And call it art What a stupid job I just I don't get it I don't even know How this became a profession Pay me I'll stand in front of A thousand people And scratch records I don't know People enjoy it Well maybe they don't I tell you what You know what they're saying I think it's just what's there People enjoy it Yeah no no Actually I think it's true I think most of the art In that Goes unappreciated By the people that are hearing it Like a lot of those DJs That are out there Doing work Like spinning stuff together Mixing things together I think the people That are out listening to it They probably dig on the beat That's going on But they're probably not appreciating How much Like what it takes For that guy to be able to do it Like I'm pretty sure He goes underappreciated Yeah no I don't want to Take everything away from a DJ Because there's some dudes That will take songs That are different tempos Different keys And mix them up And smooth in and out of them And it's sharp You know but it's not

The same guy that's That's doing La Bamba And letting it play And then going La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La Bamba Bamba I mean stop doing that I mean it's really annoying What guy does that? He's not He's not employed anymore And now it's not even Necessary manual It's on the computer A buddy who's a DJ I can do that You don't look near as cool with your little finger on the laptop Check this out Yeah Slip the lights on and off Party in a can Look what technology is taking the skill out of Yeah you can scratch digital files Which is kind of cool In and of itself like the technology Yeah I don't do anything That's not necessary for DJing Wedding You just play one and you play them Here's the couple's song Going to the chapel I know you wanted this one but I decided to remix this Me and Mike jammed Have you heard my remix of Hammer Don't Hurt Em? Solid Me and that Buddy Holly kid got together Hammer Don't Hurt Em was a tune Ripped off from The Temptations from the 1970s Here's the other thing I don't understand People that put out brand new tunes with riffs from old tunes You know Pete Diddy doesn't have one like original Yeah no I should say that because I really enjoy Wild Wild West Which is a total rip off of Stevie Wonder tune But You know I might rescind my entire comment I like people that do that I take that back I was half irritated And then I think It's funny though with Pete Diddy This is pretty good Dan You dig on this one Yeah you do ahead Bob and appreciate it Now what song was this originally?

Dope Hold on That they will come back once more I wish them That's the Stevie Wonder Yep Totally recognizable by my vocal rendition I do like that song You know who I appreciate in the music genre? Those people that hit trash That's right Double Olsen's on for Big Willie style He likes it? Yeah there you go Olsen I knew that about you Yeah I haven't seen any actual events But I just see the guy that's outside Hitting a trash can going Hey man there's money to be made There's a whole band that does I mean there's all these different things that trash Yeah it was called Stomp is one of them They got a lot now I think Vocal Trash Vocal Trash is an acapella group They're at the fair aren't they? Yeah but they do They hit trash cans one night I used Stomp right? Yeah they were at the Civic Center The Stomp guys Yeah Stomp yeah Vocal Trash though Weren't they Were they at the fair? I saw somebody at the fair Yeah that But you know I think I think a lot of that stuff's recorded That they're doing I No I I don't know I actually disagree I think it's live I think it's pretty Yeah You think all of it's live? Yeah The guy sounds really good I know Anytime someone sounds that good I question whether that's People say that to me all the time

You know what I mean? Yeah that's true Yeah they must When you sing Yeah it's like wow You recorded that Your lip syncing It had to have been No that's pretty much No that's just me All natural That's how I go Changed my guitar strings Holy cats How'd that go? Dan if I ever hear you go This is how I go This is how I go Ever again I'm gonna have to Throw you out to the studio That's how I do that Not a fan Not a fan Not a fan Feel the crash You really brought a lot Upon yourself with that t-shirt Actually Dan there is some There is some talk on the chat About that shirt Why don't you give us a little detail On what that is It's the idea I'm not a fan of Jesus It's you know A fan is a fickle person It's a It's a person who's kind of in and out Depending on how the You know game's going The season's going I'm a follower Not a fan See It's beautiful Is there a website? There is But I can't remember it Is it notafan.com? Or org Nope Notafan.com Yeah If you went to notafan.com You'd know everything there is To know about it

I think there'd be a bunch of Pictures and stuff that aren't fans Like a teddy bear Not a fan And a cereal bowl Gumby There's also a And a DJ spinning beats There's also a Hindu man Whose name is notafan Who's very upset that his Website is no longer available I am not a fan Not what I sell to my winners Not a fan on info Doggonit Oh Zach Did you listen to the show Last week? I was about there No I actually didn't Sorry You missed it This hurts This hurts a lot We let out our Cultural misgivings And Karen Thompson Pretty much showed everybody That we don't know anything About the rest of the world At all It was very embarrassing We don't know our geography Yeah that's What was the name That was the generic African guy? I only remember the ones That I guessed And they were not correct Yeah I don't think we got I don't think Maybe she didn't ever say one I think she did We were talking about Like if you were to say You know An average name For a guy in America You would say Joe Like Joe America Let's tell it But so like Who Africa? Like Nindu Africa?

I thought we were talking India Like Bunabi India Makaka Yes India right Makaka Africa You threw me off there Makaka I made it up I don't know I don't know any African names Actually as good as anybody else Yeah right I mean Was there an answer Mufasa Yeah there you go Mufasa That's Africa Simba We're terrible Exactly You're terrible I'm terrible personally Yeah I mean You can probably look that up right Top African name or something I don't want I don't want the hip one of the day Oh I want the general one Yeah it's true Because Joe isn't necessarily top now But it's The top name is DJ Slick Oh come on Not a fan They have Mimba the plumber over there It's not a fan Not a fan Not a fan They took on my website Hey Why are they always complaining Every time you do some kind of International accent They're always like outraged At something so ridiculous It's not even funny So I'm going to destroy my cow hooves I've been collecting them for years You're always Like every time you do an impersonation They're always upset over Like the most mundane detail

Like they're the most irate people ever Okay Alright hold on Two latte Soy Please What's that supposed to be? He's ordering two lattes with soy milk Deep cut See I only do I only do It's worse when he's not angry Yeah That's awful Flosses for nabobs See That's a little better Alright Anyway You know I was thinking about It was weird that That Johnny Lang thing came up Because I The other thing I was thinking about Was Was kind of How you conduct yourself At work And kind of the If there are lines about I don't know I run into this quite a bit About how you How you interact with people And like how much How much action to take And where Knowing there's strength to your job Like how often You know Are you saving up For a better opportunity When you could take an opportunity now Right Because there's I mean you could go straight up To anybody At any office building Anywhere And just stand by their desk And go say How about How about me and you Have a talk about Jesus Christ You know

And then wait for the HR To haul you around But you know If you don't ever take an opportunity You might be there five years And not be able to touch You know Touch a life That you could have And you know Zach and I have kind of Talked about that It's a weird thing Where you know It's You're not hiding That you're a Christ follower But then you know Is it as obvious As it could be Is it as vocal As it could be So like Are you influencing The people around you Because if you're not You know What can you do about that Within the constraints Because if they fire you You can't do anything Except for staying out The building with a Trust Jesus sign And that starts to get Pretty So you know I don't know That's an interesting Thing for me And one I think That if I had a prayer on it It is to every day To push it To go one step farther Than I did the day before So that I'm always Walking closer and closer to Like it should be No secret That I'm a Christ follower And I don't You know I don't I don't hang out At work like that

But I also You know I think there's probably More opportunity And things that You know If some You know A couple dudes show up And they start talking In a conversation That I You know Is not really An appropriate conversation A for work And B to engage in As a Christ follower Like finding ways To you know Either turn that situation Differently Or you know Not be a poor example In participating You know I like I really get what you're saying Because I mean The Like I work in the Construction industry There's 97% of the conversations I just can't I don't want anything to do with You know Like I've had to I've had to set certain rules That I That I That I don't break anymore Because I know How it's going to turn out Like Hey man Look at my cell phone Mistake Mistake Don't ever look at anyone's cell phone When they say Hey man Look at my cell phone That's a mistake You know And it is Like I think

After a while You get past the awkwardness You know Because like There'll be certain conversations Going on You know Which You know I'm certainly not going to grandstand And have a big fit about it But I'm just not going to be part of it either You know So I just kind of excuse my You know I just kind of slowly walk away You know And wait until it goes away And then you know When the opportunity arises It arises When it don't You know I just don't Can't be near it Well and Paul the Apostle said Let your conversation Always be full of grace Seasoned with salt He didn't say To like Be obnoxious You know Seasoned with figs per se Exactly Exactly Figs are not abrasive Because pancakes and syrup It'll go right through people With salt A little seasoning Tastes good They go I want to hear more Tell me more Well that was a good An interesting point You kind of made Ben Is that I understand Mike's been in a Foul mood All day long No it was a good It was a good point That you kind of made

About There is also a difference Between Showing that you're A Christ follower And like Talking about Other people's lives All the time Like there can be Those can be Two different things That can happen You know So like Sure I may be Looking for ways To like You know Have that conversation With this guy That I've been Kind of wanting to You know Whatever But I can also Just show That I'm a Christ follower And like I mean obviously You should be doing that Anyways But it's In the office Sometimes It's hard to Without just like Going and Tooting your own horn You know Making up Not making up stories But like Just making Creating conversations So you can get it in there Or something like that You know what I mean Like Because it doesn't just come up Where you get to like Show it necessarily But you can still show it Rough day at work Wouldn't be rough If you had Jesus

Yeah Just waiting for the Jesus keeps things together Like a steeper I'm sorry I hit you in the head With my bible Let's talk about it But sometimes I think I concentrate too much On just trying to like Look for ways To weed it in there Or to like Have that conversation Because you can get down About that too Where it's like Man I just I'm not having these Conversations I really Like to have And you know But anyways Is that you can say Well but what I can Control is me And I can at least Be showing it Professing it through me And you know If someone has a question They can know That they come to me Like Ben We talked about Where like You don't want Someone to go Oh you're a Christian Or oh you're a Christian too And it's like Whoa I hope I Made that obvious As we work together It's pretty cool When you find them though It's pretty cool When you find out Somebody's a Christian And you didn't know that It's awesome But it's also Sort of disappointing Like man I thought

I wish you I'm not obviously Doing a good enough job Of showing that I am You know Well I think what Even believers do Is they'll intimidate Themselves into Sitting there Racking their mind Over okay What can I say How can I interject Jesus into the conversation When really I think The idea of being Seasoned with salt And full of grace Is you just live your life You be who you are And you know Not even like Trying to slide in Oh man I'm really Praying for you You know Because I know You're having a rough time And most people Probably aren't going to Say something like that To them You know Like wow So you're saying To try and slide that in Or not worry about Because you're not Asking them You're not saying I've got something to teach you I've got a point for you Because the thing is It's kind of Like the ultimate message Of That you That you want The conversation you want To have Is very deep And it's You'd like to be able To just get to the Get to the deal

You know There's one deal And that's what You need to know But you can't necessarily Just go there Directly obviously So like You know You're looking You know You don't always want To just like Fluff around it To get there And sometimes You don't have The opportunity enough To In the work setting Because A You're actually working And you don't necessarily See these people Outside of work That often Or ever And so it's really hard To get to where You want to go And then you That sometimes It's discouraging Because it's like Okay How much fluff Do I have to get through Until we get to the core Of the conversation You know Without just Going straight there Because that's good That can be a little abrasive And maybe even inappropriate If you just go Boom Yeah And you know The thing About what dance If you were going To go up And someone's talking And say Hey look

I'm going to pray for you That's not an in You should be saying that If you're really going To pray for them That's the honesty part Right I'm not trying To force anything on you I'm not trying To not force anything on you My honest reaction is If given the situation 100% of the time I would say I would pray for you And I'm just going To tell you That I'm going to do it And that's the Living consistently Living honestly You know And if that goes somewhere In fact I had somebody at work Who had done that She saw that Someone was having a rough day And she said Look you know Do you mind if I You know You look like you're having A rough day And the woman was like You know Thanks for noticing I appreciate that I said Do you mind if I pray for you And she goes That sounds great And she said Pray with me So they found a room And they You know And it was You know It was just noticing That someone was having A rough day And acknowledging it And then offering What you would offer Anybody in that situation

As a person that You know Trust Jesus to take care of it And to be bold enough Just to do that It doesn't even necessarily Take a lot of boldness But I mean You know It's to But to say that And like Lately I've been Fairly intentional About trying to Kind of get in Does someone belch? Sorry Mike He was trying to look around Like I thought my headphones Stopped working So I went Oh Alright I didn't know what happened I was like Apparently it was that I don't think We would interrupt you But I don't think Dan and I Can continue With your story Until we figure out What happened I had no idea But No I've been I've been very intentional About Kind of Slipping some things In there That You know Where like Like I'll mention Something Like Something that's fitting To the conversation I'll say Oh that's funny

Like we We've been We actually brought that up In our bible study It came up And so it's It's not just trying to You know Control the conversation Elsewhere But it's Finding a way To sort of You know Put in context That Hey my life Contains bible study Yeah In church on Sunday Type of thing Or just as you're talking Oh how was your weekend And you know I mentioned things like that That So they know That that's a part of me You know And Yeah In those ways Just like saying You know Hey I'll pray about you Or Bringing up Something that happened In your bible study I mean Very few people Get offended If you're gonna pray for them Right I mean Some Some might But Yeah What's really interesting Though is that I've There was one person That I've had Some good conversation with And

And He actually sort of Brought it up about He's kind of more Into The Historical Facts And things about The bible And Archaeology And all these kind of things Just like the history of it But I don't think it Necessarily Goes beyond that And so we've had a lot of good conversation About About that But I don't know But it's kind of It's kind of hard Because I Sometimes I don't know where to take it And it's also hard Because usually you're in a setting Where there's Several other people That can hear They may not be participating Or listening So you're just like You've got a lot of different things Working at once And so it's hard Sometimes on the spot It's hard to know What to do or say You know And obviously You ultimately hope that God's just leading you And you know You just Do whatever It is You know what I mean You don't have to put that much stress on yourself But sometimes I don't know Where to go with the conversation Because It's interesting And if we were

Hanging out over lunch Or something You know You can say But It's hard As you're working And people are around And you know I concur Agreed Good All right Well We'll see you later guys Well so actually We've crossed in a little bit I've just Thrown it out there For Q&A I see if anybody Had any Any big questions They'd like to Throw out to the Live from the Path Panel While you're thinking on it Again you're listening to Live from the Path On Des Moines Amplified.com You can find our shows on Livefromthepath.org Also We all We do all attend Or have attended The Pathway Church in Johnston We're currently meeting In Wallace Elementary At 10 a.m. And Did I do it? Did I do the tick? You did it earlier today Oh crap I apparently have a tick When I introduce The church Really? Do I do? The woman does a good Better impersonation But it's dead on Anyway

How's it go? Do it Do it It's like It's like some kind of Awkward pause Like he has a goiter Pathway Church Or Pathway Church Yeah Or You ever see that 1930s gambler What? Yeah church Have you seen that movie Men in Black Yeah With the egger There's like an egger Suit guy That's what Ben is going to do I don't think it's that I don't think it's that I'm going to go check it out Wait does Clint Howard play that guy? It's close resemblance He's in that movie isn't he? No Vince D'Onofrio No wait now he's a looker Who? Vincent D'Onofrio Just on that film Yeah Who's he? He was also on Law and Order Criminal Intent I think everybody's been on Law and Order I think Zach's been on this show It was a good time I was a DJ Yeah You made a copy? This is going well First question What's going on with Dan's hair? Dan's in serious needs for a haircut Thank you for asking Dan have you ever grown it out? Are there pictures of you having grown it out? Oh yeah I used to always have pretty long hair Like how long? Were you saying pretty, comma, long hair? I've always had very pretty long locks I'll like

That's that voice we talked about earlier Well you know My hair was awesome I mean in the 80s I had the feathered thing Parted in the middle Feathered back We have to get some pictures Oh I probably have some somewhere I had to bring my senior picture That was sexy Plaid blue shirt I'm having a hard time imagining you as a trendy guy Like you look at the new hairstyle and go Yeah that's Dan Hudson Here's what happened One year for Vacation Bible School I told the kids If you raise a thousand They always raised like $150 to $200 a mission I'm like that's a load of crap You guys do better than this Who's going to raise a thousand On $200? If you can raise a thousand I'll shave my head So they did it and they shaved my head And I thought I'd never had short hair before And I was like I really like short hair You know Like they shaved it or buzzed it They shaved it or buzzed it Well The funny thing was It was my wife's like I don't know 15 year reunion or 10 year The next day Oh boy So I got into a little trouble So they just like You should just wear a top hat Buzzed it down I mean very little Very little And then I had her cut a little shorter After the thing So it wasn't like a razor blade shave But there was stubble at most And then for years It's like every two weeks I just get a cut Well this is probably Like three and a half or four weeks So thanks for the deep theological question Yeah

It's kind of a Samson thing You know Grown up for strength You don't want anybody Samson I've read that entire story It ain't good He had problems He had a lot of woman problems You ever read that? You ever read the actual story of Samson Not just the kids version Have you seen this guy? He's chasing after every woman out there He kills like I mean he kills a bunch of people And then he goes Am I to kill everyone without water? Demanding water from the Lord Like Don't you see I'm killing everyone Lord? Supply me with water What else should I do? I read it And I'm like It's the offenders Like you don't talk to my Lord that way Demand things And the Lord supplied them with water And I thought Well Still didn't end well for him No No Eyes gouged and whatnot Yeah Okay next question What would This is back to the kind of thing We were talking about earlier What would cause you to quit a job? Like what would cross the line for your faith That would make you have to say Enough is enough? Mike You first I would say if my job entailed That I That That I did not have I did not have a choice But to cross a moral boundary That I wasn't willing to cross Like Like let's say For example Let's say my

Let's say my company Supports Financially Abortion rights We'll say I don't necessarily believe in that My company financially supports them Do I quit my job? I don't I don't But like Let's say that I have to go do Electric work at Big Earls And I say I'm not going in there I'm going to have to find somebody else And they say Go in there You're fired You know I would quit I would quit for that reason But What if Big E's was closed? Yeah I don't think so I want to do a church there A church? I want to do a church service there I want to do one of our campuses The Big Earls They probably don't do anything Sunday mornings do they? I don't check the schedule Well last time I looked I was told every year Big Earl Whatever his name is Calls Whoever's doing the Johnston Green Days parade And says Can I get my girls in there You know And I was so waiting for him to call Because I was like We'll make you a deal I met him Wait What was your What would the deal be? I say You put your clothed girls in here And you let us have church On Sunday mornings You're going to wheel and deal

With your position of Green Days parade power? Well I mean I guess so That's a yes The answer you gave is a yes I guess so I was trying to get a church in there I think it would be so cool To have a little light in the darkness You mean like one time Or have it every week? Actually I'd love to have An every week campus there A campus Yeah Yeah I like it It'd be hard to You'd have to cover stuff up Like I've never been in there But I assume that there is I assume it's just dark and seedy I guess I don't know They truly don't have pictures I think they might have Isn't the attraction The live stuff? I don't know That's true If you go in there And you're just like You're entertained by the wall art She's really ugly Boy I missed June Probably just paid too much You know Anyway Okay so that's your line If they try to get you to go in And do electrical work I mean you're not You're not You're not giving money to them You're not paying to see Naked girls Yeah I just don't think I just don't think I can do it I just wouldn't want to go in there That's all I'll give you an example We had a I worked at a company And we were offered a job To clean a dirty store

To go there and clean the You know To clean the floors And the rooms A dirty store Just like a dirty Like a porn shop Oh okay Yeah And we turned that down I turned it down Because it sounded gross I mean literally It sounded disgusting I didn't want to go in there That sounded really disgusting But then you know I think the other thought Was that we turned it down For you know For more reasons But you know But is that Is that not the same thing? Is that not the goal I mean it sounded like You had control over Turning it down What if you didn't? I mean what if they Well but it's the same principle Though like you have You have work I think that's a general question Like you have work Available to you It's a job that you do And someone you know And you have a way To make money doing it In your work You are not buying Anything from there You're not supporting Their business You're just doing Your job within it Dan would you put A candy machine In a pornography shop? Dan bends candy I probably would not Because I would have To go in and service it Or send someone in To do it

And sending someone in Would be the same Well then If it's all over the place But then that's Exposing yourself to it Okay What was that? I forgot there was a camera What kind of mystical wizardry You can cut it out You're exposed But that's what I'm saying That's the line right Like you don't call The dirty store And say how dare you Offer this cleaning Contract out to me You just turn it down You know you just Politely say I'm not interested Thank you You know thank you Now is it I mean I'm not going To single handedly Bring down biggies You know I'm not going To call You know I'm not going To put up a big But see that's not our job Our job is to convert One person one at a time Into Christ followers And then that in turn Closes the shops Closes all the shops That's what Paul was doing And riots would start Because they're like No one's buying our idols anymore Do you not find it? I mean would you go? Would I go and do the Yeah let's say You were my position They said biggies called You need to go in there If it wasn't open I would do it If you got to do it After hours when no one Was in there

I could see that If you had to work While there was anything Around of ill repute No I just wouldn't want to do it I mean Let's say Will you go Well it's for my job How far does that line Get going? I think that's the question And your answer is In equal parts Ambiguous and clear Right? Like it's the point At which I'm forced To do something That is against My honest following Of Christ Right? Can I do my job? Can I follow Christ In this situation? Or is my job asking me To do one or the other? You either do what Jesus said Or you do what I said At the point that I have to make that decision I have no choice But to choose Jesus And I quit Right Or I just say I'm not going to do it Just because I have Tools on me Doesn't make me Immune to naked ladies You know what I'm saying? Yeah like Because you're there working That doesn't change What if you assume That there is stuff On the walls Or whatever Obviously there's no Live stuff going on But like There's still Stuff around

You know what I mean? Yeah I think you have the choice To keep yourself Out of temptation's way Like there's certain things You can avoid Certain things you can't I guess it's just Yeah a personal thing Like One person may say I can handle it You know And I don't find it I don't find it wrong I can handle it And another person may say I don't want to That's too close to the line For me And that's an interesting question Because like Is there Is sin What you do with it? Right Like let's say Right I'm trying to think Of a reasonable example Let's say People are drawing Nudes of ladies As for an art something Right And let's say You're a woman And you look at that And you don't think Anything sexual about it It's just a You think the human body Of a lady is beautiful And you look at that Is there any problem with that? Right Because like Is that a sin? It's porn I don't care what you call art It's porn What makes it pornography? It's a naked body Where does it say That a naked body is pornography?

Well it says that That body is for you And your significant other And no one else Yeah It's a drawing Well right Yeah but a depiction It's a Sistine Chapel Are there porn? Are there nudes in the chapel? It's nudes It's all over Yeah absolutely All over the city All over the Vatican Porn Does that make it okay? No Just because there's lots of it? Well no but He's saying it's there Yeah That's a chapel There's nudes in it Well but once again Nudes drawn by people Not by the hand of God You know I mean you yourself Would agree that The downfall of most churches Are the people in it It's not the Lord So you're taking that same example And making it okay Because it's inside Right So something like The Venus de Milo That's pornography? I don't know what that is Thank you It's the half bust It's the lady I'm always the one who says I don't know what it is Yeah The mother of life Pornography huh Dan If there's any boobies Looking at you It's pornography It's going to offend somebody At some point I think that's where we're getting to

It's not even effective What guy doesn't go Oh look there's boobs And not have any At all thought of I mean you know It's like Microwave man does not think that Well you know But I agree 100% actually You know I don't I don't know I mean You know it's not like Well that's art So I better go ahead And look at it a little closer Well but maybe he's not doing that Like you know Like it's art And he's not He's not doing that Okay Let me Okay What if it's a Little plastic shirt holder In somebody's office Exactly Dan And you guys The ones saying You guys need to file those down And I say No it's art To hold our pathway t-shirts Glorifying Jesus Christ That's true Everybody knows That ladies got nippleies It's not like you have tied the fact What's the difference Of a prominent Set of nipples On a Displaying a church shirt Versus a Supposedly Artistic sculpture On the Venus de Milo True Yeah how's that Where's it I mean Where's the distinction

Maybe You know It's got So if the church Becomes too popular Then we have to stop Using the half bust Yeah Everyone digs it That's gotta go Eyes Nays Nipple stay Exactly Well I mean Where do you Who decides Where's the line Between art and porn It's different for everybody Is it in the Is it subjective I mean That's exactly That's exactly the point Is like Is that a personal distinction That you can make Is it Is a JCPenney ad Can you use that as porn I mean Some of those JCPenney ads Right So some people do But some people don't Does that mean I shouldn't look at the JCPenney ad I don't use this pornography I think you go back To scripture Where As women Are to dress modestly And if there's a JCPenney ad With bikinis and bras Whatever Maybe that's not very modest And maybe Guys shouldn't be looking at it If it's getting going What are you doing Looking at those pages Yeah what do you care anyway It's not like You're buying braziers

If you're a woman You're looking for a bra Yeah exactly Well then That's not a problem I don't need to know What another woman likes It's like me looking At the bikini briefs And going I wonder what I would look like In these bikini briefs And then seeing a dude That looks nothing like me Just show me a picture of the deal That apparently was blessed by the Lord More than I was And I think Yeah that could be me Zebras I mean come on Just show the shorts By themselves Exactly What would these look like on me If I was anorexic I'd look just like that I don't see a lot of anorexic dude Underwear models Well no I was thinking See I was I've been thinking A little bit lately About like faith based investing And how there's There's a lot of companies That inherently aren't Bad or anything But take someone like Mediacom You know It's television It's internet or whatever But like You know They do make money Off of You know Adult movies And so that would be something If you were If you're investing You know Doing faith based investing Where you are going to put a screen On what I'm willing to invest in

That would not make the cut You know So there's a lot of There's a lot of companies That fall into that And sometimes you have to You really have to do the digging Because you may not And there's nothing If you don't know about it And you know Like if you're trying to go by Faith based investing And put the screen there And if you don't know about it I'm sure that's okay But if you knowingly If they're operating in And it was kind of The sin things You know Sure The pornography Or the tobacco And drugs And alcohol And all those type of things You know Especially when you look at Like say mutual funds You know Mutual funds are a collection Of tons of stocks So it may even be That much harder To really actually track it But you know As a Christ follower Or it's like Especially as an investor You got to remember When you invest in stock You are owning that company Do you want to own a company That's making profits Off of those things That you don't condone As a Christian I've heard of mutual funds That are specifically Yeah they're called Faith based Yeah they're Luckily I have no retirement At all So you don't

Don't worry about it I'm looking forward To a heart attack Or something Go ahead Mike Is smoking tobacco a sin? It ain't Is drinking a sin? No In moderation? I think that all comes back To like the microcosm Of what are you going to do In your own job? What is Joe going to do In his job That compromises his faith I mean I think that's As a whole You're putting You know Vast majority of Persons in your company To work for you To do this That also entails This you know X rated whatever Or something that You don't really want You know Condoned for these people Or anybody So I think that's Taking it to another level Were you still talking About smoking? And I was not Like what What media comments I mean it's You know That's a good point I think I think what media comm does And Smoking and drinking Are two different things Well You cannot watch You cannot watch porn In moderation And be okay Sure Right

But You can have a beer On a Thursday night And the Lord is not Going to smite you You know Like That's true Because like When I think of a cigarette I inherently think Well that is Clearly That is clearly Bad for your body Well they call that Like the sin taxes And stuff I mean Well You know But I very much think Like okay Well Tobacco Or you know Like a cigarette That's bad for you But like You're right though Because Well then How come you can be okay With having a beer You may not be having Nine of them But like You can have a beer Then what's inherently wrong With having a cigarette Well right Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to justify smoking Okay At all You know But like Like you know People come busting out Of the church And start pointing fingers at people And be like You know No alcohol No tobacco

You know No gambling You know And make people feel like They are the absolute worst people ever Now as soon as you cross the line Into an addiction Or It is in front of the Lord You know It's stopping you You know From what the Lord has you to do Now you've got problems You know And But wouldn't you say Like most people Who smoke Don't smoke It's not in check You know what I mean I would say That's true Yeah So I mean like Inherently Moderate smoker Because I don't know Well Because it's interesting Because like Well then If you look at alcohol How much Like you can be You can be abusing Quote unquote Alcohol Without being an alcoholic Sure Because you could be going Getting trashed on Friday night Now you're You're not dependent On having that alcohol Every day But But you could be abusing it Well scripture says Don't get drunk Right So yeah Sure And that's clear Whatever you call abuse

When you get drunk You've spiritually Crossed a line Well then like But the bible doesn't Inherently talk about Smoking does it No So you've got to Interpret that a little more Because it does talk about Okay your body's a temple Type of thing That's usually the verses That people use Then I'll ask them How many times They've had french fries This week Which will kill you quicker Than cigarettes Which is why My choice of death Because it'll be A nice quick heart attack You get over with Rather than long That is true Without the The smell And the yellow fingers And who wants to Take all the time To smoke I just enjoy myself Hospital bills Are non-existent So yeah I mean You can take that So far And you know Well then You know I mean Look how many Different interpretations Of what's healthy And what ain't You know There's 75,000 Diets out there One guy says You should drink water And lick your toenails All week

And you'll lose 10 pounds And the other guy's like You should eat red meat Every night You should be on your way I don't get Because like Obviously it's all Relative to what you're Doing as a package But like There's the one diet That says Oh the The bread and everything Is bad for you You know Don't eat that as much But eat the meat And the normal ones Are saying Well take in the Bread and the pasta But don't eat as much meat And you're just like Well what That's completely opposite How can you be So opposite Everything in moderation It's Yeah Just eat less than Than your You know That does include Exercise though You do have to Also exercise moderately It would be good Moderately Are you saying You're a heavy exerciser No Daniel's a heavy exerciser I go in spurts Right now I'm trying to At least get up to moderate Again How's the weight loss Thing going Is that at its end yet I lost 7 pounds The first week Which was a week ago

And then this past week What do you mean A week ago That was your first week That was my first week You were talking about it Like 3 or 4 weeks ago Well I've been talking about it For about a year Oh so you were talking about it But just not doing anything And then this last week I just stayed At that 7 pounds Because I thought Well hey I lost 7 pounds That's really cool You ate those pancakes You went to the ice cream social Yeah that's true I went to the ice cream social I got a small You know thing By the way The next spontaneous brain freeze The word's out Is 7-16 like a bible verse Or something What's with 7-16 It was just a spontaneous You just trying to be clever Trying to be clever Meaning you did not Yeah he's putting you on the spot If you were trying Like he's outed you As not succeeding I did not come up at that time I will tell I will tell The poor young woman Who came up at that time Your wife or daughter I think it was a great idea Thank you No problem I also support it You look like a real jerk Tomorrow I bet you're going to Send me a dollar Pancakes It's on Facebook So does Johnson It's on Facebook already Yeah Yeah good luck

If you ever move to Johnson And your house kitchen's on fire Yeah there They shut down the hybrid And go Well I wish we had more money To run this hose bud We do have nice plasma TVs I'll tell you what Too bad the hose rotted I'm full I'm too full to fight fire We've got a video Of firefighters Who are actually doing work We're not able to do it But we can see them doing it Maybe you should You should put it out With your gold plated Rolls Royce Seeing that everyone in Johnson Has got one Park it over the fire Next question from the chat Ready Is it my hair? Nope Nope Is our birth controls Is birth control Or vasectomies Appropriate Yeah That's a good one For a Christ follower That's a good one This is you Dan This is yeah I mean Okay Boy these Q&A from the chat Is going to be rough on Daniel No no no There are I'm not an expert on birth control Okay I've done pretty good I only had two But you know There are different Types Of Of birth control Would you say Specifically the pill

Aren't there different types What about the snip Let's start with the dude Snip Snip away baby Dan's down with it Nothing non-biblical I don't know if I'd ever Refer to it as Snip it away That just sounds Painful and awkward Let's just say Been there done that Okay I'm going to get one Okay Let's do it on air Ask the wife Is that wrong Is that wrong It's not Been there done that Really Yeah Okay Do I see It's not to see This is not art Dan This is gone This last 30 seconds This guy's okay You can do it in medical Turned to the worst You have to look at the style Like on the woman's side Of birth control What's going on Because some Will take Fertilized eggs And Expel them Which if you look at Like the morning after pill Is that what you're speaking of But isn't But people say like Birth control is inherently Always the morning after pill Like isn't that how Birth control works And I as well I'm not a But I've heard women say that Who are against it

And saying well Every birth control Daily birth control Is inherently A morning after pill No I mean I don't know There are things that block The egg from getting fertilized Okay And there are things that Take the fertilized egg And flush it out Yeah Which would be If you look at life Happening at conception It is getting rid of life Sure And that's how I look at It What about the What about just the goalie The what The plastic goalie Yeah What about that Does that smooth Does that work Does that work for everybody Everybody still following Jesus In here Plastic goalie I said goalie I'm like I don't even know What that is I know I was going what That happens I mean that that works For a certain amount of time Then you finally go I don't care We're doing the snip Dan's totally on About this snip business Yeah this is I'm a supporter That's an overshare I'm heading that direction Alright so I actually So I think the I think the The general answer then Is that If life

If you believe life Is at conception And anything you do After that point Would seem to run afoul Of biblical teaching Anything Preventing that That point however Doesn't seem to be a problem Because it's not life Prior to that Sure Right Right right It's recreation In the confines of marriage In the confines of We are also promoting A marriage relations Yeah Using the plastic goalie On non-marital relations Does not make it any better Or any more godly Let me tell you The toughest decision you have Is When you have the life That's there And then something Something happens Everybody says Well abortion You know in the case of Rape or incest Or life of a mother Okay Well really I mean I'm kind of I'm kind of pretty extreme On this Life is life What Is it Is it really my child's fault That someone raped My wife or daughter Or something Is it really the baby's fault Is it really the baby's fault I don't I can get really personal here A few I remember the timing A few years after

Danielle was born We did not know We were pregnant Cheryl was In pretty intense pain Things were going on Like this is really weird Like she's passing out And she still goes to work anyway And finally You know They're like Man go to the doctor So we go to the doctor And before we know it They're rushing her To the hospital And we're in the room And finally We're like What's going on We have no idea What's going on And they finally say Okay well you're pregnant And it's in the topic Pregnancy And What does that mean exactly? That the egg stops In the fallopian tube And starts developing there Oh it didn't fall To the It doesn't go all the way down Okay I'm with you And so as the baby grows The fallopian tube That's where the pain happens Then they burst And people will bleed to death They will die And that's why What was going on She was bleeding internally And she was She was losing Massive blood And all kinds of stuff Going on And they rush her off And Suddenly I'm faced with Is it Cheryl Or the baby?

Right You know Because I didn't know I had no clue What an etopic pregnancy Was at the time I discovered In this process That at that point It couldn't have been a baby Because there was not It was no development It was just It truly was a growing tissue Because it didn't get To where it needed to go To become a baby I mean It was And So I'm asking All these questions And as a matter of fact Well Some people came to faith Through this Because it was kind of wild Because they kind of Watched us in crisis And the questions Were like Well Can you save the baby? You know I mean Cheryl almost did die that day But she didn't Obviously Because I've met her You've met her He's very lovely Is she on the chat today? She's probably long gone She's gone to bed Yeah She was very tired Yeah But You know That was one of those When you really face What do I say? If I'm the one And the doctor comes up to me It's like

Do you want your baby Or your wife? You know What do you do? And it's like Well The wife's innocent But she's had some pretty good years The baby's even more innocent We'll take the baby You know And that was That was a pretty That's when it really boils down to Wow It turned out It wasn't really that choice Right But Because Again in that instance The baby It wasn't a baby It was just a tissue Exactly No there's nothing That says you can't destroy a tissue Yeah yeah I mean it truly wasn't like Yeah But That was pretty That was pretty intense And I'll never forget her coming back out of surgery I mean she was white as a ghost You know She'd lost so much blood And she spent weeks just Laying on the couch Trying to recuperate And all that stuff She was afraid of time Wow You know We talked about We talked about this Kind of subject On the way down to Webster City this weekend But we're We set up like Outrageous scenarios And we're trying to bounce off Like The scenario was A crazed man

Comes into your place Comes into your house Okay You don't have any weapons Dan Just for this example But I do You're short on weapons I don't have any ammo Out of ammo Okay We'll set your eyes It's locked And your one arm is broken So you can't I can't swing it like you were thinking Okay so Anyway Crazy man comes in So we'll set three crazy guys Do I have a knife Okay I'm gonna run through No weapons You're unarmed Dan Unarmed And you're a mute Okay so Here's a list of three choices Okay So first choice The man points a gun at your head He's crazy And says If you believe in Jesus I'm gonna shoot you You say Do you believe in Jesus Daniel Absolutely Okay I kind of figured that Crazed man number two Comes in Same scenario If you believe in Jesus You tell me you believe in Jesus right now I'm gonna shoot your wife You believe in Jesus Absolutely Scenario number three Comes rocking in This crazy man now Says If you tell me you believe in Jesus I'm gonna shoot your whole family Except for you You believe in Jesus

Absolutely You knew Dan was gonna do that Look at that No hesitation Dan's on it He may not leave in a body bag though Here's what I decided Because I will find my weapon Here's what I decided to go with Here's the thing that I decided Like Am I denying Let's say that I That I say Take the chicken way out You know Save my daughter's life And whatever You know I say I don't believe in Jesus Now I've This is where the discussion came in Like Do I have to justify My belief in Christ To a crazy Unstable Incapacitated man Now In front of a government trial If I weaseled out I think that would be Something different In front of a person That has a Do you have Bible verses Ready to go I'm not yet I'm working on it I'm excited Here's what I decided to say He says You tell me right now You believe in Jesus I'm gonna shoot your kids And I thought I couldn't for the life of me Like process this To the point where I couldn't lie about it And I decided What I would say was Father your will be done And then

See what happens I decided That was the only way I could do it But isn't that essentially What Jesus did Like there was plenty of times Where he did not answer To the questions That he was being asked He kind of He said something different Yeah Like he didn't He didn't like Defend himself It is you who Like you king of Jews Is you who Yeah you speak it now If you've You know And I'll spare you And he just He didn't say it So the chat's got Matthew 10 32 Whoever acknowledges me Before men I will also acknowledge him Before my father in heaven But He's What's in question here Is he is not of sound mind He's a crazy man But how do you define that How do you Maybe he's demonic Well then I certainly Don't need to justify My faith to some kind Of crazy demon I don't owe him nothing I think But are you really Justifying your faith By answering it Or I mean like It's not a justification But it's Saying the right I mean it's saying The answer you believe in though Like

You're not proving it to him But you're You're proving it to Jesus You're proving it to God That I do So what if he comes in And says Hey do you like your car If you say that you like your car I'm going to shoot your I'm going to shoot your kids Is it okay to lie there Can you lie and say I don't really like my car Well that I mean If it's what you truly believe What's the difference Yeah because You know Okay so you've committed The sin of lying I don't think the point is You've committed the sin of lying I think you've denounced Jesus And denounced God So if I So I don't have a problem Lying about whether I like my car Or not Because I can ask forgiveness For that lie But you didn't really Denounce Jesus You lied And said that you Didn't believe in Jesus That's not true You were thrown out I mean brothers and sisters Were dying for this And you're like Yeah You've got to have A long term view of it In 10,000 years Okay you're all Going to be dead anyway So True They killed my family Well They can kill me Whatever I'm going to see them again We're in heaven

We're celebrating We're dancing It's awesome It's a real bummer And it's painful It hurts And you really wish It didn't happen And you'll probably Deal with guilt The rest of your life Unless you really Have a strong faith To you know Keep like You know But life is short I mean Exactly It is It is a flash It's a vapor And you know Well that's what Kind of led to Our second conversation Which was That there appears To be multiple times In the Bible Where A mistruth was told To Keep the How can I say that To keep the thing going To keep whatever Whatever actually I had two examples Like Like What was the story In the Old Testament Where they said So and so can stay At my house And they're like They left out the back door Or they were Right Right Or like The soldiers said I'm looking for this guy And they say They're not here

Or I've never seen them And it was an outright lie Like they sent them Flying out the back door You know She wasn't A Hebrew I mean it was The Hebrew spies That went in there And hid It was like Coming out of Egypt To the promised land Is that the case You're talking about Probably Yeah I think so I think that sounds like But it was now It was It was a lie Yeah Well You're supposed to say More than yeah She was already a pagan Let her lie What This is the kind of thing I'm talking about Abraham also told a lie Said she's not my wife Yeah Abraham was a liar There's a lot of Old Testament dudes That you think of Wow they're really great In the Sunday school stories Moses killed somebody I don't know A lot of them were like You know He was denied the promised land For that reason though Agree No he was denied the promised land Because he Struck a rock And got water out of it And God told him To do it a different way Oh really It wasn't the murder of the guy It had nothing to do

With the murder That happened 40 years earlier Doggone it What happened now Those felt bible characters That I got in Sunday school Really led me astray They always move them around And tack them next to rocks And donkeys and stuff And I think I have a story Moses Moses left Egypt Whoop There he did it The ascension of Jesus Is a real smooth deal On the felt Did anybody else have Those felt bible characters Oh yeah I was watching TVN again This week I can't get away from this channel I don't understand why Like a guy I just I can't help myself It's like a train wreck I get bored And I start watching the TVN Which is the religious channel The Trinity Broadcasting Network And these movies are just so I don't know I get things out of them I don't understand why But they They had a story of Joseph Jesus' dad Earthly Father And He died at the end And I I've never thought of Joseph's demise before And they showed just after That he got Jesus out of the temple And said look We were worried sick about you And he's like I'm doing my father's work now You know Whatever And then Joseph leaves

Distraught And then he heart attacks And dies And I thought Even eating french fries Wait a minute And then Jesus is See some of the things That I really wonder Where they get the artistic liberty Because Joseph is dying in his bed And 13 year old Jesus looks at him And says bless me father And Joseph says I bless you my son Blah blah blah blah blah And then 13 year old Jesus says I bless you And I thought I don't know that Jesus would have said Bless me father You know It just seems like A poignant Human heart moment That is just not Generally God's deal You know Like he doesn't usually Fluff phony Feelings You know It just seems way phony You don't play So there's things you gotta watch for On this TV Oh yeah But there's also Like depictions of things That I think help Burn things into your memory A little bit better Like that people actually Lived in deserts And there was towns And there was actual Walking to places And you know Stuff that you generally Just facade over You know Like it's not a big concern Kind of like The Passion of the Christ When they did the walk You know

It's like That was a giant walk With a giant heavy cross You forget the context Of what's really going on And you know And that's why that movie Was such a slap in the face Well we actually Kind of uncovered In Bible study one time That you know If you put Sometimes you gotta put Some historical background On things To kind of get A significance Where like You know We were talking about Jesus walked on water And they said You know At that time Water was like death I mean You know People died all the time From storms And all those kind of things And so it was almost like A symbolism of Yeah Yeah exactly And it was like A symbolism of conquering death Walking on water And it was like Oh wow I've never Thought of that I mean it's obviously Cool that he walked Yeah right You think of more Of a recreational Like yacht to yacht Like that guy is He's in the Holiday Inn He had one of those Cinnamon rolls Exactly Two guys from Johnson Out enjoying the Sailorville Lake

Without a rope I only had a pancake Roy on the chat Says Back to the other thing We were talking about Ananias And Sophia This is one of the Best parts This is awesome Where they They lied about the offering Where they said Yeah we gave it to God But really They withheld For some other business And they died directly They just fell and died And remember We were talking about that Before because we thought It was odd Like there were dudes Just there to kind of Carry the dead away Yeah Death was so prominent At that time There's just people That carry dead people around And they came in Picked them up Went on with their business And the other guy lied And bam There's another one He goes down Wow there's another question You know actually This brings us to the Part of the show That I wanted to throw out there This will be our This is our YouTube Question of the week This is primarily I would say Directed at churches Although I mean Anybody's free to respond The questions I think Will be probably more geared To being answered by Like church leaders

Or you know Other people that are Involved within the church But the question then is I want to make some Minor adjustments You guys talk for just a minute So how's it going guys? Good I guess I fixed yours earlier I'm surprised you didn't have I haven't played with it Chase you guys Just kind of stayed away So what's your Impressions so far Pretty exciting stuff isn't it Yeah it's nice It kind of makes you Want to move here Yeah he likes it Downtown a lot I really do It's a nice thing Beautiful downtown He said we were driving in On well Grand And then Locust And he says Is there Is there much crime here And I go You know Nope Like it's weird to say And we saw some Young people Just walking down The street They were naked So like porn A lot of porn But no crime Everything artsy Dude there was a drive by Shooting like two houses Down from me Was there really? Yeah Someone sprayed the house With bullets Wow I don't live in Johnston That's clear Otherwise it would be gold We don't allow weapons

In Johnston You know You want to know The biggest concern Of my week So I have a ton Of stuff going on Right like I'm moving You know I'm still not out of my house I've got to be done by Friday I've got like a thousand Things to do Do you need help? I'll call you Maybe Maybe not I'm not going to help I just wondered I don't care Go ahead I'm not a fan That was awesome I'm not a fan Anyway So here's my huge concern For the week Like this is Preoccupied most of my time Is that I ordered a dumpster To go to my house Oh yeah Last time I ordered a dumpster I came at 6 o'clock at night I probably put It was a 15 yard dumpster I probably put 15 10 20 things in it Whatever I woke up the next morning It was completely full I just Of crap from the neighbors We did that at the church That's unbelievable Orange shag carpet I mean just It's like someone It's like they smell the dumpster You know Like they're sleeping At 3 in the morning And they go Hey man Someone's got a dumpster

Honey we got a dumpster outside And they come rocking They come rocking Out of their house Like oopaloopas With trash And over to my place You know I wake up the next morning And I I'm not going to lie to you Did you cuss It was a couple years ago And I swore I did swear I used profanity Inside the van No I was outside I was in his week In front of God Would you swear Yeah I probably would have Swore again I'm not going to say That I don't have Failing But yes I probably Would have swore again It's something to be Mindful of and pray on Ahead of time Lord I know something's Going to go awry With this dumpster Help me to keep My tongue My tongue straight And pray for my neighbors That I could lift A load from them And they could put Their dumpster Well I tell you what Maybe I could go And preach the gospel To them In their nice clean house Seems that they have Plenty of room now Because all their crap Is in my yard Or a post-it note Maybe that Yeah On the dumpster

Unbelievable There you go It was terrible But that's You can put this here If you accept Jesus That's my biggest concern This week Is I had one delivered And I don't have time To get out there And throw stuff away For at least a couple days Put a picture of a puppy In there Would you steal from a puppy There was a drive-by shooting Daniel I don't know That the puppy's Going to do it They don't care about puppies Yeah do you think It sounds like a note Is not going to Put a sign On each side of the thing And say just Please don't put your stuff In this I don't think that That sounds like Really cheesy I don't think that Would do it Dear sir Marge we brought All this stuff And I really feel like We should have thrown it in But this thing I mean he left us a note Well I don't know what side Of town you think I live on But that certainly Would not pass I think if I left A note like that You live in Johnston They would take it And break my windows with it With the paper note They can do that Like that

Jesus boy You could sleep In the dumpster There's garbage in there Not even comfortable garbage He's going to end up With a bunch of garbage On top of him If he does that Yeah really They'll be like Hey man there's a dead guy In there Better cover him up Duct tape a lid Alright we're going To try this again It's a 15 yard dumpster Did you say duct tape a lid You've got to have A lot of duct tape Excuse me sir I need $300 Worth of duct tape Please Alright I'm going to give this Another shot Yes we're ready Alright so Welcome back This is our Live from the path On Des Moines Onfly.com A YouTube question Of the week And so the question Has to do with Jared and I I remember we had A conversation one time I was out I was out walking This afternoon And the Des Moines Arts Festival Is coming up This weekend And one thing I remember Jared and I Talk about Was how the church Has kind of Made art subversive

To a certain extent Like the church Has to a certain extent Squashed artistic Like Christian art And hasn't expressed it well So the question I guess from me To the churches Are you know What are you doing From an artistic standpoint To you know Further the gospel message You know What is your church doing Or do you think It's even important Is it something You know Do you have a dedicated Worship and arts guy You know Is it something That your church Feels to be important And that you You know Use different mediums Things like You know I've seen people Do paintings You've seen people Do you know Dramas and stuff Interpretive dance I've not seen that But it's possible DJs What Spin Spin beats Spin beats for Jesus It's possible It can be done So that's the question So I'll go ahead And post that up On YouTube If we can get to You know Up to you know One or two minute response Would be great Just we're interested

To see what you're doing For that Whether you find it Important Whether you You know Have seen great things Come from that Or maybe it's not Gone so well Or there's things That you wish you could do But you don't have The time Talent Budget Whatever I know I've seen A lot of cool things I know there's a church Up in Ames That I was talking To somebody about today That they pretty much Bought a building And opened it up To be able to Have a live music spot In Ames And they can bring Christian accent I mean It's a way of You know Taking Reaching people Through Through art And I get it Like a cheesy Technologies for worship Magazine And they talk a lot About you know Sound and lighting Design for you know Plays and things That they put on Which is another way Way to reach people And so you know I think it's moving In the right direction But you know Are we doing enough And are we taking steps

To you know Make sure people Can express themselves For God in an artistic way Because I think You know You think artist You don't really think Oh Christ follower I mean that's not The immediate thing But I mean Some of the Most memorable things You know For people to hold on to And live their day Of life with You know Are psalms You know Things where David was an artist He was a musician He was a writer You know Things There's art in the Bible And it's You know You can glorify God that way And the question is How are we doing it Not through the Sistine Chapel Not through the pornography In the Sistine Chapel Awesome So anyway I'll get that posted on YouTube We'll review some responses During the week You guys are all free To go out to the Life in the Path channel And kind of look And see if we're getting Responses out there And then maybe we'll take a look And we'll share some of those On the air next week From some of the other churches That'd be awesome It was interesting That you brought up Like a play Because you know

Sure they do The Christmas thing Or you do the I don't know You know You act out parts of the Bible But you don't often see a play That is non From You know what I mean Like a scene from the Bible Yeah You could do a Christian play That's a Christian theme Oh sure Without just having to do Bible scenes Yeah sure That'd be kind of cool But I don't think you see that Very often I mean I've never seen it Actually I think our youth leader Attempted to install something like this I'll have to talk to her more about it Hmm Well actually it was weird I was thinking of When I was thinking about The art stuff Because I checked The Des Moines Art Festival schedule To see if I could pick out I'm sure I was going to be able to tell They were a Christian By the pictures in the paper That guy's a Christ follower But you know I was thinking Even more prominently You'll find in the last You know Few years You've seen You know Christian Or Christ You know Christ centered movies Go a little bit more mainstream You know And they're that one church That does it They did the The Facing the Giants And the

The Fireproof You know Things that are You know Can reach a wide audience That have Christian themes to them And both of those did You know Very very well And it's You're moving from Like some of the stuff That Mike sees on the TBN You know Some of the The Christian movies Are really like Melodramatic and cheesy It's like they have to Oversell the biblical message That already exists I watched the 1950s From the 50s version Of like The Book of Ruth And I mean It was terrible But I watched it We have done some You know It's been a while Really at Pathway Since we've You have to really be intentional And plan ahead Because it usually Takes in other people And to be honest It's just It's been a while Since we've done some stuff We used to be a lot more creative In some of the things We did like once We did a I'm trying to remember Exactly how it worked It was like Rick Gray Was dressed up In like a Grim Reaper Type thing And he was just In the shadows So he never said anything

Never did anything But it was almost Satan And God You know And Jesus Dark and light And there was like A Jesus That was standing over here And just in the shadows There was this lurking You know Grim Reaper type guy And You know We didn't like Feature it We didn't talk about it We didn't say And over there is Satan You know It was trying to be subtle And some people got it Some people didn't see it But it became like The buzz of the week Ain't that the truth though Some people don't see it Exactly And that was the point And then we had one family That never came back Really? Yeah Nice They'd only come a couple Three times And he was like a professor At some college And it probably just was like Oh you believe in Satan You know I don't know It was just kind of freaked out Because it was It hit enough It was Pretty effective I thought And we've done a few Different little things Drama And different things But it's been It's been a loss

I like that Grim Reaper idea That's kind of hit I volunteer Ben For the next Grim Reaper For the Grim Reaper Yeah you stand in the chat Who's going to fill your sound spot You better call it The Reaper will do the sound Yeah We did More base room We did a little video thing Of We did like a trading spaces And we went in And Hellies A different little I can't remember how we did it Cheryl was I can't remember the gal's name That used to be The big trading spaces That was real popular Oh Paige somebody Paige yeah And then she had Some little I don't know if Jared still Has that stuff or not And like we had The living room We talked about different Christ remodeling Different areas of your life You know But then we did The trading spaces thing That was kind of fun And we had It might have been Rick Ray and Fuller Was the pump it up guys It was a series On small groups They had their He's goofy Pump It was pretty It was pretty cheesy That's a bit different But kind of along The drama And not really But Yeah so we've done

A few different Little things The dark You know Day like When we did The music thing Music thing Well and I think Rick did Like some mural stuff On the walls That once Like he was airbrushing Do you remember Seeing that Yeah Like that stuff was cool I mean I think You know Some of the point Of that is Is that You know Some of The farther you're Away from the church Sometimes you get The impression of You know Butt in chair Sweaty pastor You know Marathon sermon I do get sweaty You know Eat your You know Eat your wafer And get out My hair broke You know And Jesus was not The bible is not Restricted to You know You know Firm Firm lectures And then you're Out the door I mean there was Art in the bible And I think There was a

There was a span Of time where We've Like it was felt That it was It was immoral To introduce things That were You know Artsy or something Or that kind of thing To demonstrate God's love Or to demonstrate Things about Christ And And I think There's ways to get I mean even social things Like church blogs Or you know Think online stuff There's like Church fiction That's it I mean there's Some of that stuff Is interesting The thing is Is a lot of that stuff I think people Bowed out of it And that's the One of the other things Jared and I talked about Is like some of the guys That were really good at it Were really good at it Artists Got the impression That it wasn't You weren't supposed To be doing that And so they got out of it And so what it left you with Was some Some cheesy Christian films It's not they were all cheesy But I mean you saw Some cheesy Christian films Some of the Christian fiction Is cheesy Like it doesn't address Legitly Like questions that people have It doesn't mean

It's a really safe thing You know They're basically Fluffed up Bible stories And you know It's a living Bible It relates to your life And you should be able To capture that With you know You say Christian fiction And you immediately think Like cheesy Right And it doesn't need To be that way And the movies Don't need to be that way And some of that Is bringing You know Bringing the artists You know Back into the church And saying look Not only this is okay This is awesome Worship God this way And you know Be a part of it So I'm interested to see What other churches are doing I mean you know I mean God Obviously you know Jesus provided that talent To people And they can use it for God I just It's interesting to see What they're up to So I'd like to see it Agreed Alright Well Actually Our time's Our time's almost up here You have been listening to Live from the Path On Des Moines Amplified.com We really appreciate you Taking the time To listen to us today We're always on On Monday nights
