Topics covered

Segments

  • Show open and lineup preview 0:00–1:20
The show opens from Lowe Street Studios in downtown Des Moines with a produced intro in which the host introduces himself as Ben (transcript: 'My name is Ben Foost'). The hosts preview the night's lineup: musical guests Candy for Nichols in the studio, the 'Name That Tune: Jesus Edition' game, a discussion of what to do with Christmas, and the non-biblical signs of the apocalypse bit. A comedy rating bit ('on a scale of 1 to 5, if 1 was a platypus and 5 was a snow leopard') frames the episode.
  • Guest band intro and game contest rules 1:22–3:00
The hosts introduce Candy for Nichols as the in-studio musical guests and lay out the 'Name That Tune: Jesus Edition' contest: ten secular tunes that contain the word 'Jesus', edited to play only that word, with players guessing title and artist for points. The prize is a mention in the newsletter plus a pin the winner must pick up in person because the show does not pay for shipping. A tangent about winning prizes on WHO talk radio and listening to KWKY follows.
  • What to do with Christmas and the Santa discussion 3:02–5:09
The hosts preview the 'what to do with Christmas' topic, asking how families keep the focus where it needs to be and what to do with Santa, warning listeners to put the kids to bed first. Mike is discussed as having claimed on the show that Santa was a drunk. The hosts riff on a listener-submitted Skype photo of a Santa who looks drunk-or-sleepy ('whiskey beard Santa'), debate whether he is jolly or in a stupor, and tell a Merle Mall story about a mall Santa who recognized a three-year-old named Shanna out of the blue. The bit closes with the mock-formal moniker 'The Dan'.
  • Apocalypse teaser, Revelation banter, and the Jesus meter 5:09–8:45
The hosts preview the non-biblical signs of the apocalypse segment, recalling last week's sign (a man forced to eat his own beard at knifepoint), then riff on the apostle John writing Revelation and being told by God not to write some things down ('Do not add to the book'), imagining him seeing something funny mid-epistle like a pig walking by in the wind. They introduce the running 'Jesus meter' gag — a gauge for how on-topic the show is — and list the band members by name: Nicole, Keith, Sean, Scott, Daniel, and Tracy.
  • Band interview part 1 and the drunk Santa Skype call 8:45–12:16
The hosts interview Candy for Nichols: the band is mostly from Indianola, together three years, with Keith joining about a month ago and Scott Ridgway on drums for about a year. A Skype caller phones in the 'drunk Santa' photo and the studio passes the laptop around reacting to it ('tell me that does not look like a drunk Santa'). The band plugs their Wednesday show at House of Bricks with Dark Horse, Syndrome of Fire, and Pilot for Kite, and one host jokes about arm-wrestling Syndrome of Fire's Cassie.
  • Pieces of My Heart performance and full-commitment discussion 12:16–18:59
Candy for Nichols performs their original song 'Pieces of My Heart', about wanting to give God all the pieces of one's heart. Afterward the hosts turn the song's theme into a substantive discussion: the hardest step in committing to Christ is the fear of what you will lose — friends, habits, comforts — and the reframe that you do not so much give things up as outgrow them and no longer need them. One host jokes about his 'crazy Uncle Santa who spills vodka on his beard' as an example of things he loves about his life.
  • Day jobs, Scott the hand model, and commercial improv 18:59–22:13
Asked what the band does during the day, Scott claims to be a hand model, sparking an extended improv bit about cuticle work, glove modeling, and old-people-medicine commercials (including a riff on the 'so-so' Colonial Penn/AARP commercial woman). The hosts then improvise fake commercials for 'the Utter Bomb', Epsom salts, and crew socks ('wear crew socks, because they breathe'), with Scott acting as corporate shill and his own attorney.
  • Band interview part 2: demo CD, Facebook, and merch 22:16–26:46
Back from the break, the hosts recap 'Pieces of My Heart' and ask about studio work: the band's full-length CD is in mixdown with a three-song demo available now ('The Battle Is Won', 'I Try', 'Pieces of My Heart'). A long comedy riff ensues about buying the demo through Facebook ('we will not ship, but we might mail it to you'), Dan's Facebook friending follies with Keith, and Dan selling the band's CDs at live shows.
  • I Try live performance 26:59–30:11
Candy for Nichols performs 'I Try', an original about anxiety, falling down and getting up again, and trusting God through the battle. Afterward the hosts note the song is being played and requested on powerplayforall.com through a DJ contact named Misty.
  • Band interview part 3: radio, big chair, and the band name origin 30:11–35:28
The hosts note Mike is sitting in the 'big man's chair' tonight while the usual occupant is out, plug the show's YouTube channel and the 'Tales from the Path' fairy-tale series, and finally get the band-name origin story: three years ago with backup singer Mandy, 'Mandy, Candy, Nicole, Nichols — Candy for Nichols', which 'stuck'. The name is framed as an evangelism conversation-starter ('there's a sweeter way through life… Jesus'), followed by a 'Jesus juice' Michael Jackson joke that derails the show.
  • Name That Tune: Jesus Edition gameplay 35:28–43:45
The hosts play all ten 'Name That Tune: Jesus Edition' clips — secular songs edited down to just the word 'Jesus' — twice through, with the studio and chat guessing title and artist off-mic and on paper. One point is awarded per correct title and per correct artist. Dan is introduced as notoriously terrible at secular music, his only prior identified tune being Cher's 'Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves'.
  • Name That Tune answers, scoring, and Old Testament songwriting 43:46–57:04
The answers are revealed: 'Free Fallin'' by Tom Petty; 'Jesus Is Just Alright' by the Doobie Brothers; 'One Toke Over the Line' by Brewer (and Shipley); 'Jesus Just Left Chicago' by ZZ Top; 'Spirit in the Sky' by Norman Greenbaum; 'Personal Jesus' by Depeche Mode; the Phil Collins/Genesis tune ('Jesus He Knows Me'); 'Levon' by Elton John; 'Mrs. Robinson' by Simon and Garfunkel; with bonus 'Four Walls of Raiford' by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Dan correctly identifies ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skynyrd; Mike is declared the 'illegitimate winner' amid admitted scorekeeping fraud. The segment closes with banter about writing worship songs with 'bones and skulls', rhyming 'plate of armor', and the Urim and Thummim.
  • Event promos, We Three Kings, and the drumstick story 57:05–1:05:56
The hosts recap the band's upcoming gigs: Wednesday at House of Bricks (doors ~5, $5 cover, four bands) and Saturday at Southridge Mall, plus the 525 East Grand Avenue address. Candy for Nichols performs their 'Thunder Chunk' version of 'We Three Kings'. The band's drummer then tells the story of tossing broken drumsticks to school kids at a school performance and triggering a 22-kid stampede, which the hosts compare to throwing Bibles as a preacher — 'nobody cares'.
  • Preacher bit, Westboro Baptist, and Need to Breathe stories 1:05:57–1:13:43
A comedy riff about preaching: throwing Bibles at crowds gets no reaction while musicians throwing drumsticks cause stampedes, and whether Pastor Dan should throw hush puppies after sermons to grow the crowd ('who died for your sins? … Jesus'). One host recounts trolling the Westboro Baptist Church website ('God smack!') and jokes about throwing whole Bibles at their rallies ('That's not King James!'). The band's Dan recounts his two Need to Breathe roadie episodes: selling merch, then driving their bus driver to the hotel and to Long John Silver's in a smelly van while the band never emerged.
  • Osteen and Duplantis, Pathway Church plug, and the Methuselah song challenge 1:13:43–1:20:40
The hosts riff on watching TV preachers Sunday mornings — Joel Osteen ('I'm great as I am') versus Jesse Duplantis ('got to change some stuff') — with a joke about anointing oil stuck in Osteen's hair. The band plugs Pathway Church in Johnston (meeting at Wallace Elementary, 9:00 and 10:30 services) and invites listeners to show up and say they are sinners. Trailer-unloading duty is compared to an Old Testament Levite thing, and one host challenges Mike to write a song on the spot using the words 'smote', 'Nineveh', and 'Methuselah' for five dollars.
  • Lifted performance and the Methuselah song payoff 1:20:40–1:28:01
Candy for Nichols performs 'Lifted', a brand-new original about denial, brokenness, and being lifted up, quoting 'Amazing Grace' mid-song. Mike then performs his on-the-spot composition, 'Methuselah Went to Nineveh and God Smote Him' ('that's not really true, but I don't care'), earning the five dollars and a promise it will be a hidden track on the band's album.
  • Non-biblical signs of the apocalypse 1:28:01–1:51:10
The full bit: absurd real news stories are presented as possible signs of the end times, with the studio and chat voting 'the end is near' or 'we've got more time' after each. Signs covered: flushtracker.com (a site for tracking your flush on Google Maps, from London's Metro, World Toilet Day edition); a taxidermy piglet piggy bank by Belfast designer Cullen Hart (£2,500); a 59-year-old teacher in Saitama Prefecture, Japan using 'sexual harassment dice' (hug/kiss/snot/forgiven) for classroom punishments; a Bible.com shareholder (James Solakian) suing the board for failing to profit from the domain; jesustoasters.com and its $39.95 Jesus-image toaster; Buffalo Bills receiver Stevie Johnson blaming God on Twitter after dropping a game-winning pass; and two self-described Arizona pagans/vampires (Bob Maley, Amanda Williamson, Aaron Homer) arrested after stabbing their roommate to drink his blood. Tangents include a Glee 'Jesus toast' episode, meeting the band Superchick, and plans for a three-man 'It's a Wonderful Life' Christmas special.
  • The Jonah joke and sign-off 1:51:13–1:54:58
By chat demand, Mike tells the joke that had been 'banned to the 11 o'clock hour': a little girl counters her teacher's claim that no human could be eaten by a whale with 'what about Jonah?', and when the teacher asks what if Jonah didn't go to heaven, she replies 'then you can ask him.' The hosts sign off thanking Candy for Nichols, recap the Wednesday House of Bricks show ('Mike and Dan and I' will be there), plug livefromthepath.org, the newsletter, the YouTube channel, and the gag 'Dan Hudson for President 2012' Facebook campaign.

Full transcript

Live from Lowe Street Studios, downtown Des Moines. You are Live from the Path. Remember when he said, we're going to bring the mics up? Solid. Thanks for listening. You are listening to Live from the Path on VoynAmplified.com. That means they can hear you. My name is Ben Foost. Thank you so much for listening tonight. Great show lined up for you tonight. On a scale of 1 to 5, if 1 was a platypus and 5 was a snow leopard, we have a very strong badger or a cooperative mongoose. That's what you have on your hand. I've yet to meet a cooperative mongoose. This sounds like 4, 7, 5 to me. That's what I'm saying. It's off the charts, this one here. The chart was 1 to 5. It's in the chart. Oh. Well, okay. It's in the middle of the chart. Fair enough. That's all I can claim. Anyway, Candy for Nichols is in the studio with us tonight. They'll be playing some songs, talking to us about their upcoming show on Wednesday, and they've got some more stuff coming up next week. I'm pretty excited for that. So they're going to share some songs with us. We are going to play Name That Tune, Jesus Edition. I've got 10 tunes. These are secular tunes that have the word Jesus in it. I've cut the word Jesus, and I'm going to give you that only, and you need to tell me the title and artist. That will be coming up this hour. Chat, I totally expect you to participate. You're going to be so bad at this, Daniel. Yeah, I give up already. The winner of this particular content gets a mention in the newsletter and a free pin. This one. This pin you get.

That's a high-quality pin. But I don't pay for shipping, so you're going to have to come get it. Okay, I'm not shipping this out to you. We don't make any money around here. Obviously not. You know, I've won stuff on big radio stations and actually had to go to the studio to get it, so I don't think that's asking you guys. Okay, that seems real. What radio stations have you won things on? Well, like WHO. The talk radio station? That's why I don't know music. That's why you'll have the Jesus and go, Jesus. I was going to say, what giant radio station that plays second chapter of Acts is currently giving away things? I used to, back in the day, I listened to KWKY, and they played music. But I wasn't going to mention that because I figured you wouldn't know what it was. In either case, we're the big time, and I don't pay for shipping. So you're coming to pick up this pin on your own accord. And we're sending you a W-9 at the end of the year. That's right. Yes, that's right. Totally. We're going to tax you on that beast. Obama's going to get you. As far as I'm concerned, that pin is worth $675. Or you can be right off the top. We will also be doing what to do with Christmas. And the basic thing about this is, obviously, we're talking about a holiday that has a wide breadth in the world, largely not talking about the thing of which it is for. And so the question is, how do you handle that?

What do you do in your family to keep focused on where it needs to be? What do you do with Santa? I did warn, if anybody caught the newsletter, to put the kids to bed before that discussion. I did hear tell of Mike claiming that Santa was a drunk and telling a toddler that this week. And so I don't know where that's going to go. Well, where did that belly come from? That's all I'm going to know. So put the kids away. There was a picture of a Santa doing this. They claimed he was winking. I thought he looked like he was in a drunken stupor. I have pictures of my children, very young, sitting on a Santa that I'm pretty sure was right up there. I'm telling you. He was pretty happy. Now, see, that's totally unfair. He wasn't jolly. He was happy. Because even if you're just a Santa who drinks a little, as soon as you get it in your beard, it's just going to smell like you do it all the time. True story. Oh, you've met a whiskey Santa? I love Santa today. She does Santa every year. I see. I see. Hey, we went to Merle Mall once several years ago. Our 13-year-old was probably three. We're walking down the hall, down by where Santa is, and out of the blue, Santa looks up and says, Hey, Shanna! Creepy. No, it was pretty creepy.

And you didn't know that guy? It was Santa. You did. No, no. She couldn't have been three. She was just at that age. She's like, I don't know about this. And that confirmed it for at least another year. That it was most certainly Santa? Because that doesn't, you know, it was, yeah. That's true. Most people don't just say, Hey, Shanna, out of the blue. Because it's not a super common name. He's been checking my name twice. The Dan. No. He only needs to check mine once. No one cross-checks The Dan. I decide if Santa will even look at my own name. But I can elaborate on that more later. Oh, yeah, yeah. Okay, so we'll be talking about what to do with Christmas. And also, as promised from last week, we'll be doing our non-biblical signs of the apocalypse. Last week, the preview was the guy that was forced to eat his own beard at knife point. That one is not in the book of Revelations, but could very well be a telling sign that the end is near. I bet someone would have put it on there, except for the Lord specifically said, Do not add to the book. And God said, Some of the stuff you saw, don't write down. Right, yeah. I mean, not everything. That could very well be in there.

I didn't even think about that. Exactly. That's very, very possible. You could just see John writing it going, Don't write that one down. I don't know. I don't know if this belongs. It's really stuffy in here. Are you saying we're hot? Yeah. I'm pretty sure that's a sweatshirt going to your head, Daniel. Actually, I am feeling a bit steamy. Yeah, I work real hard. I'm feeling a bit like Dennis Quaid at the moment. What? Nothing. All right. So anyway, that's a show for tonight. Chad, I got to look. You know, wait a minute. But that begs to think, like when the disciples were sitting down writing the books to the Bible, the apostles and the letters and whatnot, that John is writing the book of Revelation and he sees something kind of funny in the middle of writing something heavy, like the Lord returns on a giant white steed with a, hey man. You know, and then sees, I don't know, like a pig walk by in wind or something, you know? It happens all the time. Like it'd be very awkward to be in the middle of writing such a huge epistle and then something funny happens. You can't decide, I don't know whether that's supposed to go in or not. It was a series. I'm trying to look up the actual verse.

I'm trying to remember. It wasn't like very, you know, random things. There was like a certain specific thing he saw and then God said, oh, by the way, yeah. Don't put that in there? Yeah. Let's go ahead and keep that one secret. Yeah. And maybe, I think maybe it's because John had… They're going to sell a lot of books in the 20th century. Yeah. Things missing from Revelation. The Winding Pig. I'm totally sure. Don't listen to the Sadducees and Pharisees. And then I cut my toenails. As I traveled. You got to cut them in sandals, man. You'll get others and then… See, they couldn't put the pig thing in the Bible because they were Jewish and the pig… Exactly. Exactly. It winded. That's true. Let it go. It's not kosher. Don't write that down. Whatever it is, don't eat it. They're not going to go for this one. Did you see what it just did? I wasn't going to eat it anyway.

It's unclean. Look at it. I can't remember. Oh, yeah. And it's in there. What did I cut you off from? What was I going to say? Off the rails. We're now down to a handicapped pigeon. Disaster. We were an industrious badger and now we're back down. Comfortable mongoles. And the Jesus meter is at nine. We're going to get that made. Out of 120. The Jesus meter? Yeah. Okay. We're going to put a Jesus meter on the wall. Sometimes we get off topic and we've got to kind of remember if we're… Yeah. Sometimes we're firing all cylinders. Yeah. And then sometimes we're… Yeah. It's way off pace. Anyway, again, thanks so much for being on. Again, we are in the studio with Candy for Nichols. And real quick, if I will… It is Nicole, Keith, Sean, Scott, Daniel, and Tracy.

Thank you so much, everyone, for coming in at this late hour. Are you guys normally up this late? Yes. Does anybody go to bed this early? I do. You go to bed this early? He's lying. Is it because of your janitorial position? Well, yeah. Janitors have to get up real early in the morning and so… He's not a janitor. Well, that ruins everything I had to say already. Yeah. I apologize. All my show prep's gone. I cannot tell a lie. I'm not much of one, I guess. That's the whole idea. I had a number of things written down and now I'm going to have to restart. Thanks a lot, fellas. Sorry. Out goes. Do you prefer nylon mops? No, they retain water and the smell gets real bad. Fair enough. All right. So, I guess, Nicole, maybe tell me a little bit about your band. How long have you guys been together? Where are you from? We've been…

Well, we're from Indianola. The majority of us is from Indianola. And we have been together for three years now. And have just recently been joined by Keith over here. Just… How long have you been in the band now? About a month. About a month. He's played one major show. And we'll be playing another show really soon, the year Wednesday. And Scott Ridgway has been with us. He's our drummer. He's been with us for a year? Yeah. About a year now. So, that's a little bit about us. Okay. Cool. Cool. Hold on a second. We got a… We got… Someone's calling on the Skype. Hold on a minute. Hello? Person on the Skype. Can you hear me? Hello? Hello? Hello?

Hmm. Bummer. We lost him. Well, that I heard. Over there. Okay. Wait. Wait. We got him back? Nope. Maybe Mike can sing a song real quick. Okay. Hello? Hello from the Skype? Is there a… Oh, there's… Okay, wait. This is the Santa. Okay, hold on. This is the drunk Santa. Okay, there he is. Dan, can you see him? Oh, there we go. Boy, that's creepy. Tell me that does not look like a drunk Santa. He's not jolly. This is at your house? Maybe he's just really tired. It's at someone's house where I live. He just looks like he woke up.

He might not be drunk. He's just really sleepy. He doesn't look like joyful. I hand out toys and candy. There might be other chemicals involved. I don't know. He just looks really tired. He looks like he's calling you at 2 a.m. He's been beat up. His eyes swollen shut. Boy. I'm glad we have that visual, though. You got lipstick. Maybe it's a Red Bull crash. Hey, thanks for calling that in. You know, he's going to fly all over the world in one night. Red Bull. Thanks, baby. Blame it on Red Bull. It's what it is. It's a Red Bull crash. Okay. Go on. Boy, that Skype is the coolest. Yeah. I like Skype. That's handy. Anybody else have any pictures of a drunken slash winking Santa that we can see? I don't know if I have a… I think his open eye is rolling back in his head.

Yeah, it's Creepo. That's weird. Anyway. Anyway, so you guys got some shows coming up then? Yes, we do. Actually, Wednesday night we'll be playing at House of Bricks. So, show starts at 5. Show starts at 5? Yep. What time do you guys go on? We go on at 6. And our friends Dark Horse will be opening up the show at 5 o'clock. Man, how many bands are playing at this deal? We have Dark Horse, Candy for Nichols, Syndrome of Fire, and Pilot for Kite. That's awesome. Yeah, so 4. Syndrome of Fire must be just getting back in town, eh? Yeah, they are. Yeah. Just getting back in town. Cool. I need to talk to those guys. Why? Because I'm going to arm wrestle one of them. Ryan? Lacey? Probably the gal. Or Sonny. Probably the gal. Her name's Cassie.

Cassie. I'm sorry to hear about it. I apologize, Cassie, honey. Have you guys played at the House of Bricks before? Well, this will be our first time playing there. That's pretty cool. Yeah. That's pretty cool. That's a big show. Do you know what the stage looks like? Yes. Yeah. Is it a pretty decent size? Yeah, it's a good size. Yeah, it's okay. Yeah. Okay. Because vaudeville is pretty small, but we love playing there. Indeed, vaudeville is small. But we really like that. We've played there twice now, so. Very cool. It's a lot of fun. Very cool. All right. Well, I tell you what, let's go ahead and get started. Let's have you guys do a song for us. The first song that you're going to do is Pieces of My Heart. Can you tell me a little bit about, this was an original tune. You know, what's it about, and what was the writing process with it?

Well, it's, let's see, when did we write this? We wrote this probably about three years, probably about three years ago. It's basically just about wanting to live my life for the Lord and how I just want to give him all the pieces of my heart, and that pretty much sums it up. The words speak for itself, pretty much. Cool. Cool. Very cool. All right. Let's get going. This is Candy for Nickels and Pieces of My Heart. Go ahead. How many vocalists? I mean, you guys sing them, man? Yeah. Swing one over there. We're swinging mics. Are you singing that row singing at all? Oh, you don't sing at all? I'm not singing on this one. Okay. Well. I can. Okay, go ahead. Dan can sing with us. There's some oohs and ahs in the middle of it. I had to warm up first. That's terrible. What was that, Daniel? I'm doing backups.

He's going to do backups for us. I sure hope not. Leave me alone. Okay. I got to warm up. Candy for Nickels, Pieces of You, go ahead. Just blending with everything else. No. No, no, no. I want to stand and not just hang with the cool crowd. Shine bright. Show the world how to live right. Because you beckoned me to be different. You're setting me apart. I can't help but give you all the pieces of my heart. Whoa. Whoa. See, there's a place inside where many people like to hide. They're running from the answer. God, they treat you like cancer. Help me be a reflection of your love and affection. Because you beckoned me to be different. You're setting me apart. And I can't help but give you all the pieces of my heart. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Because your word says not to be conformed by this world, but to be transformed by the renewing

of your mind. Your word says not to be conformed by this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Yeah. Yeah. Because you beckoned me. You beckoned me to be different. You're setting me apart. And I can't help but give you all the pieces of my heart. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. I said you beckoned me to be. You're setting me. And I can't help but give you all the pieces of my heart. Thank you. Very good, you guys. Very good. That's a good message to it. Thank you. I like to give like 40% sometimes. 40%. Just being honest. Here's how I did my life. 40%. You give 40, I want 60. 40% is actually pretty decent. 40 for Jesus.

You know what? Actually, I've been thinking about this a lot today, and that song kind of echoes it a lot, is I think one of the biggest struggles that people have with really committing to Christ is you don't want to give, you don't want to completely commit yourself because you know there's things that he's going to make you lose. Not he's going to make you lose, but they will go away on their own because of the lifestyle you've chosen to live for him. Right. And I think people see it that way, though. They think he's going to take it away from you. Oh, no. Rather than you get to the point where you're like, man, I don't need that anymore. Right. I've outgrown that. Right. And I think that is the absolute, the hardest step to get past. Because I think once you get past it, you're like, it was no big deal. It's just like anything else. You know, once you drop it and it's gone and it's like, whatever, I did it. It was over. You know, the Lord took it away from me. Let's roll. But getting past it, like, you know, I don't want to give up my buddies who swear and drink. I don't want to not see my crazy Uncle Santa who spills vodka on his beard. He's cool. Whiskey beard Santa. My janitor friend, Scott. You know, come on. I love all of these things about my life. Can't turn my back on that.

Which, I mean, don't take that out of context. That is not necessarily the path that the Lord has laid out for you. Obviously, you can still be friends with these people. That's right. Get them to know the Lord as well is the point. But, you know, I think it's just some of the things that you don't, you know, you're like, I know what the Lord says about this, but I don't want to commit to him fully because then I have to say that I have no reason, you know, that I know better and I'm still not doing it. Well, I complete ignorance within your own self. I think the distinction on the thing that you're talking about, though, is that the things that, it's not that you run away from the potential to lead people to Christ. The question is, are you going to them for respite from Christ? Like, are you running from God to something where you feel more comfortable? I feel more comfortable with this stuff. And so, I keep these friends around for that not to live around these people. You know what I'm saying? Like, it's easier to live without, without any type of, you know, guilt or rules or sanctions. Like, you know, I've been trying so hard this week and blah, blah, blah. And I'm, I'm really struggling. And then Friday comes around and you can go hang out with your buddies and then you go back to swearing like you want to and be like, boy, it's way easier just to do whatever I want. You know, it's just way easier, but not near as rewarding. Right. So, I, I, I don't know that. I think that song kind of, kind of wrapped it up for me. That's a very good sentiment. I'm glad. Awesome.

So, uh, so what do you guys, uh, and I don't all answer at once, but what do you do, uh, during the day or do you do this full time? I'm a hand model. Could you show us? I'm kidding. I believe it. A little close up, close up on camera three. Scott, a real hand model does not show his hands and just sit in one. He is, that's right. You, sir, are a phony. He's like the isotoner guy whose hands are, are like nicely shaped, but too ugly to be bare. So they, so he's a glove model. Yeah, I'm putting all the way to the bank. Do you ever do any cuticle work, Steve? No, no, no. Any more questions, talk to my agent. Huh? It's like a threat in the hand industry. He's like, has he gone cuticle? Oh no, not yet. He's not desperate. Once he gets on in years, or he thinks he's going to lose his looks when he's older, so he wants to get the cuticle work in before he gets older, you know? That's what the old, that's what the old hand models do is at the end they start doing old people medicine commercials where they're holding hands in the center. Reaching for the pill bottle. Jesus said we were going to win. Hey, have you guys noticed though on those, um, on those old people commercials, there's a, there's like a specific woman who's on like all of them. She was on the, she was on the scooter chair and then she was on a Medicare commercial.

And she was the woman on the colonial pen who goes, oh, so, so. It's like after his, her husband died. Okay. And then he goes, how have you been doing? Oh, so, so. And then like something, something with colonial pens, something, something. Sounds like a real winning advertising campaign. Anyway, I don't know. Like once you get in, you must be in because she's in all of them. She's in all the, the AARP commercials. I would like to do some commercial work. I can sell stuff. Like what? I don't know. Give, give me a product. Uh, uh, the utter bomb. I don't even know what that is. It doesn't matter. See, then how can you sell it if you don't know what it is? Okay, Epsom salts. You have to fake it. Pretend like you know what it is. Well, I don't want to do old people commercials yet. I'm still doing cuticle work. Don't put me in this drake. Uh, okay. You're, you're selling, um, uh, crew socks. Okay, I'm with you. Give me the setup. Uh, I can't.

Are you tired, are you tired of your feet swelling and smelling really bad to you with your neighbors? Yes. You go with that. You go with that. What should I do? I wonder why this isn't working out for you. Wear crew socks. Wear crew socks. Because they breathe. What do they do now? I thought you were a hand model. You're certainly doing an awful lot of talking. I know my crew socks. How dare you upstage me? I had a dialogue. That's what this is about. That's what this is about. It doesn't take much. All you have to do is say anything and I'm pretty much upstaged. You know what the problem is? Is that you have the heart of an artist. Scott is a corporate shield. Crew socks. Definitely. I can do that. Yes. Can my hand be involved? Oh, no. They're socks, man. My hands.

My agent and the attorney are standing out in the hall. By the way, they're me. I'm attorney for Scott. You're listening to Live from the Path on Des Moines Amplified.com. We are in studio with Candy for Nichols. They just got done performing Pieces of My Heart, an original tune. And they're going to do another one. We'll go ahead and do it now. It's I Try. Now, I guess before you get this going, do you guys have any studio work? Like, are you working on a full-length CD? Are any of these tunes on them? Yes. All of our tunes will be on our new CD. And it is in process right now. I just can't say when it's going to be finished. But we do have demo CDs right now. There's three songs on there. I believe it's The Battle Is Won, I Try, and Pieces of My Heart is on the demo. Cool. Those are available right now. Is it being stamped, or you're still in the midst of recording it? We are still in the mix down? Both. Both. There's still a song I have. So there's still an opportunity for some maraca work or bongos? Are you offering? I just know a guy. I'm just saying.

You know a guy. He's done some TV work, some cruise off commercials and whatnot. I'll have to keep that in mind. He looks kind of like Dennis Quaid. Oh, that's you. What? No. Hey, I know. No, I know. You're embarrassing me. I had someone tell me I look like Matthew Broderick one time. No. You, sir, have met a liar. I don't think you standing for the mirror counts. Hello, Matthew. So my appropriate response is, hey, man, you look like Matthew Broderick. And I should have said, you need Jesus. So, or you're not right in the mind. Or you need to be on the old people's commercials. Oh, no, it wasn't so-so. It's like, oh, pretty fair, I'd say. Yeah, that's the woman. That's the woman. See that one. Hey, I'm going to ask you, is my Jonah joke, is that passable? You're not going to wait until the 11 o'clock hour. Okay. Fine. Anyway, pretty fair, I'd say. I love it.

She's a classic. All right. So, yeah. Yeah, go ahead and give a switch. You guys want to, are ready to do I Try? Yes. And this is on your demo CD. Can they buy, can you buy it? Yes. How can they purchase it? You can come to a live show. If you get a hold of me on Facebook, we can make a range for that. We're not friends. Facebook friends? I'm really disappointed. I'm Facebook friends. I've sent your request. You've not even responded. Yes. I haven't received your request. It was about half an hour ago. Oh, I haven't been on it. So, I will accept it soon. Mike, don't you know better than to bring up Facebook friends in front of Dan? Sorry, disaster. I've got a lot of requests out tonight. Every time we suggest that Dan become friends in front of Facebook. I couldn't find it. Who's Keith? He does it on the air.

I couldn't find it. Because he doesn't have an appropriate picture. It's just, you know, the little cartoon picture. Oh, it was the silhouette thing? You didn't when I friended you. I saw a band. Are you the one with the band? I thought, maybe this is him, but then I couldn't. Sorry. You're to blame for this, Mike. I apologize. Dan? No one said anything about Facebook friends. No, see, we're communicating here. We're making deals. I'm selling CDs for them. Okay, I try. So, anyway, you can get these demos through us. Just get a hold of me on Facebook. Although they are professionals. They will not ship. You're going to have to come pick it up. We will not ship, but we might talk. We won't ship. We might ship, though. You might come with a handy pen. No, we're not going to ship, but we might mail it to you. Now, this is appropriate to, you draw a hard line now. You know what I mean. Not ship it.

Yeah. Local. Local, local, local. You know what? And people will feel better if you say, we don't do any shipping. We don't do any shipping. And then they call, and they're like, we really need it mailed. And you're like, well, I guess we can do it this time. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, okay. Then it makes them feel special. They're promising. Yeah, exactly. But now everybody knows our little trick. Yeah, you're just giving it away. You just gave it away. There's nobody listening. That's where you're mistaken. There's nobody listening. And Dan's forgotten what we're even talking about. Is that him? Grats. He's looking you up. There's a whole bunch of Keith Sages here. Actually, the funny thing in my grats is to follow that list. But this song has been being played. This is very important. I got a lot of stuff going on here. Oh, my gosh.

That wasn't on there when I came to you. Okay, listen. We can't have everyone looking at Dan's Facebook follies. Oh. Here we go. All right. Daniel, put that away. This is candy. This is very important. This is candy for nickels. How can I tag them in the photos? And I try. Do you guys need two mics? I'll just share this one. Okay, sweet. Candy for nickels. I try. This is on their album. You can get through Facebook or come to a live show. How much was it? Five bucks? Ten bucks? Three. Eight bucks. Three dollars. Plus a five dollar cover to the life in the path. There you go. Exactly. I try. Candy for nickels.

Eight bucks. Go ahead. Oh, here I go. One more time. A thousand things rush through my mind. Anxiety comes crashing down. Spinning out round and round. And I try so hard. Again and again and again. And I fight so I fall down and get up again. And I cry so in this battle I know I can win. Sometimes I feel like such a mess. Is it all one big test to help me put my trust in you? Day by day I'm getting through and I try so hard again and again and again. And I fight so hard when I fall down and get up again. And I cry so in this battle I know I try and I try and I try again and again and again. And I fight so hard when I fall down and get up again. And I cry so in this battle I know I can win. And I try again and again and again. And I fight so hard when I fall down and get up again. And I cry so in this battle I know I can win. And I try so again and again and again and again and again. Thank you. Very good. They're actually playing that song on powerplayforall.com. Really? Being requested several times. Oh, how cool. That's kind of fun. Yeah, that's got to feel kind of neat.

How did you get on that deal? Saved on Sunday. Have you heard of them? Yeah, they've been in the show. They have an awesome gal, Misty, that works for them, with them. And she happens to be a DJ on powerplayforall.com. And she's kind enough to put us on there. Oh, cool. Do they accept radio show submissions? I don't know. You have to ask her. I can hook you up. Well, this is really looking promising. We have connections. You are listening to Live from the Path. I have Mike sitting in the big man's chair. He's out and about doing other important work that I don't know how to do. And so, whatever, Daniel. Don't look at me like that. Daniel. I was just kind of wondering what that important work could possibly be, but I'm not going to ask. It has to do with computers or whatever. Oh, okay. You thought he was taking the business, and that's not what's happening. Well, that's a big job. No. No. Most certainly, that's not what's happening. Jesus meter. Woo.

Sorry. I just wondered. Jesus did it, too. Anyway, you can catch the live show, obviously, 10 to midnight here on Des Moines Amplified.com. You can also check out our previous YouTube videos. You can check out our YouTube channel. We'll have snippets from the show last week, the week before, that kind of jazz. And we also have our Tales from the Path. I've got a picture of you in the big chair. There's good. He's ready to kick you out, but I still want to get a picture of you. Sorry. I interrupted you. Were you saying this? I wasn't even listening. All right. All right, Cassidy. I'm glad I'm not the only one that does that. Anyway, you can check out our YouTube videos. You can also check out our Tales from the Path, which are fairy tales as told by the fellows from Life from the Path, although always classic. And they rock. And they're pretty good. Yeah, they're pretty good. The kids really love it. My daughter loves caps for sale. Absolutely. My daughter kind of walked away. I'm like, hey, get back here. You've got to wait until they're … You've got to get them when they're immobile.

Seven-month-old, she loves it because she can't go anywhere. High chair strapped in. Listen to this. She's got to stay. This is going to be really neat. So it works out really well. But anyway, check out the Tales from the Path. They're classic. I believe we have a new one coming up next week, which should be pretty solid. So anyway, Dan, as you were saying, you had something going on. Exactly. It was going really well and still in the process. Oh, man, that's great. That's … Here, wait. Let me get pictures. Oh, there we go. All right. Pretty smooth, Daniel. Thanks. That's what I'm here for. Anyway, as I was saying, you can check out the promotional stuff, blah, blah, blah. Candy for Snickles, you guys got a website? We do. Candy for Snickles dot com. How did you get it? No one else bought it before you? No. Well, that's good. At least you don't have to fight for Candy for Snickles. We don't have to fight for that.

That's our name. So what's the deal? How'd you come up with that name? I have ASCAP. Oh, okay. That's a good story. Three years ago when we started, everybody asks that, obviously. Three years ago when we started. Wait, you're saying I'm asking only obvious questions. You're asking an obvious question. That's a stupid question. That's a common question. Let Dan answer that. Ask that one. Hey, that was not a punch towards you. Can I take it that way? Please don't. It's too late. No. I'm hurt. I'm kind. Yeah. Go ahead. Just tell the story. I love you. Daniel, please do not berate the talent. Okay. Three years ago, we had another gal in the band. She was a backup singer. And her name was Mandy.

And my name was Nicole. And it still is Nicole. It is. That's awesome. I love this story. Mandy, Candy, Nicole, Nichols, Candy for Nichols. Just crazy. And it stuck. That was the story? Okay, wait a minute. I wasn't listening. Such a boring story. Tell me again. I missed the last punchline or something. It was just a… Yeah. Do your little drum roll for me. I thought there was going to be an injured goat or some kind of children with candy. Well, I thought I was scared for this bad turn. She was in the band and then… Let's have it. There's a sweeter way through life. With Jesus Christ. See, we don't say the last part. No. You have to assume. You have to think about it. There's a sweeter way through life. Dot, dot, dot. Sweet Jesus candy.

Do people say, well, what is it? Yes. That's the whole idea. That's the conversational piece. So what is a sweeter way through life? And that opens up the door. Okay. And they say… You try it on me. Okay. So what does my shirt say? If I was wearing a Candy for Nichols shirt. There's a sweeter way through life. Yeah. Right on. Sweet. Sweet. Right on. I love it. That's cool. I see how that works. It's very effective. It's very effective. I like you guys. There is a sweeter way through life. There is. It's Jesus though, right? It is Jesus. Yeah. It's definitely Jesus.

Or candy. Or candy. Or candy. Whatever's available. Well, Michael Jackson had the Jesus juice. You guys have the Jesus candy. Is that a true story? Really? Is that Michael Jackson? It's on the internet. It's got to be. I've never heard that. I have never heard that. If it's in a friend, it's got to be for real. I'm a cuticle model on my Facebook page. I don't know if that really means anything. Oh my goodness. That's horrible. Let's not touch that one. Okay. Let me get this pony show wrangled back where it needs to be. Thanks, everybody. Dan did it. Everything was going fine. And he goes, Michael Jackson, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. A guaranteed conversation diver. I did catch that. Yep. Okay. All right, chat.

You guys ready? Are we doing Jesus? It's time for Jesus Name That Tune. I'm ready, man. I'm pumped. Sean, hold on. I'm going to be so good. All right. Okay. We have to play two, right? Yes. You have to play two. Now, do you guys have a pen or anything? No. Or a headphone? You can't. No audio guesses. Okay. Don't say it out loud. No, because I'm going to play them, and then you write them. You've got to figure out what they are. Oh, we're going to write them down. You guys are going to have to put headphones on, because you won't be able to hear it without them. I don't have any that are plugged in. Sean can wear the headphones. Well, don't give it to Sean. That's not funny if he knows them. It's funny if you don't know them. Okay.

Then I can go, that's a terrible guess. That's a stupid guess. You've been talking the entire time. I've got to wear the headphones. Okay. Really? All right. You guys ready? You guys give up? Unless you want a lady in the tramp with me, and we can go. Fair enough. Not that much. He's an ear model. It's okay. Don't touch the merchandise. It's insured. What's that now? Okay, Chad, are you guys ready? All right, so here's the deal. I'm going to play you a clip of the song. You need to give me the title and the artist. Don't write them down in the chat. For you guys at home, keep track of them on your own, and you get one point for the title, one point for the artist. Don't put them in the chat, because I want the people in the chat to work on their own, okay? It has to be real specific. It can't be like that one real cool song from that one show. I want title and artist. Okay, so we'll go through it once, and I'll just play the Jesus part.

You make the guess. And then we'll go through them again. I'll give you another shot at it. How many are there? Ten? Yeah, there's ten. I've got a title on my paper. There's ten. By its right name, style. We're not allowed to guess out loud, though, right? The singer. What's that? We're getting guessed out loud. No, no guessing out loud. Okay. Okay, ready? All right, here we go. Here's our first one. And number one, title on artist. I know the song. Okay, Dan? Okay, here it is again. Second chapter of Acts. Here it is again. There you go. Whoops. Hold on, hold on. Let me get back to it. Here we go. Hey, you have a microphone over there, Candy for Nichols.

Okay. No whispering. How many times do we have to set up the rules? Okay. All right, ready? That was number one. Here we go. Ready? Number two. Number two. Here it comes. Title on artist. That's it. I got it. Okay, ready? Here we go. Number two. Okay. Good. Take your time. Hold on now. That's not fair. That could be multiple artists. Original artist. Okay, I got original artist. Original artist. I got the third one. Okay. I haven't done number three yet. I mean the third artist.

I'm ready. Okay, here we go. Number three. Oh, I got it. Okay, here we go. Number three again. Here it comes. I don't know the artist. Here it goes. Okay. Good. I got to make something up. Chad, how are we doing? Are we going too fast or just about right? I can't even make something up. I actually don't know these. Bean. Is Bean giving one? Yes. All right. Really? Okay, ready? Here we go. Number four. Number four. Oh, come on. Here we go. Ready? Hold on. Let's do it.

Number four. Here it comes again. I think I know it. I think I know it. See, that was by Barney. We'll see if I'm right. In case you never met Dan, Dan is terrible. Absolutely terrible at secular music. We've been doing this show for, I don't know, six, seven months. And probably played 30, 40 tunes. The only song he's picked out so far is Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves by Cher. It's the only tune. Was Jesus in that one? Okay, here we go. Jesus is in everything. That's right. Here we go. Ready? Number five. Number five. Jesus. That's a gimme. That's an easy one. Okay, ready? Number five. Here it comes again. Dan. Okay, number five. Here it goes. Jesus.

I don't know the artist. Oh. You guys. I'm going no artist. Okay, ready? All right, I'm good. They don't think that. Hold on. Number four again. Here it goes. I'm going to give you one more crack at number four. Here it goes. You got it, Mike? I knew you'd get it. Okay, ready? Here we go. Number six. Number six. Name that tune, Jesus Edition. Number six. Jesus. Title and artist. Number six. Here it comes again. Number six. Dicks. Oh, I know the artist. Original artist on that one. There's multiple variations of this original artist. I don't think that's right.

I'm going to win. Okay, ready? Okay, that was number six. Here comes number seven. Title and artist. Name that tune, Jesus Edition, on Life from the Path. Number seven. Jesus. I think I got the artist. Okay, here we go. Number seven. Jesus. Okay, you're going to have to do it one more time. No. Okay, one more time. Number seven. Title and artist. Jesus. I got the artist. That's all I got. Okay. Good. Sean Cassidy. What if he's just going to be Ben singing Jesus? I didn't think that far ahead. That would have been awesome. Jesus. All right, here we go. Number eight. Ready?

Number eight. Name that tune, Jesus Edition. Title and artist. Here it goes. Jesus. Okay, ready? Here we go. Number eight. Jesus. Very good. Damn. You didn't get that one, Daniel? Bean, quit putting stuff into the chat. Come on, woman. Pick it up. That's two. All right, here we go. Number nine. Title and artist. Title. Just look for Bean. Boy, Dad, you put a lot of work in that chart. It's got nothing in it. Hey, hey. I'll fill it in. Okay, here we go. Number nine. Title and artist. Jesus. I got it.

Okay. Number nine. Title and artist. Name that tune. Here we go. Jesus. Jesus. It actually makes it worse when you repeat it over. I should have done a mix where I had them all in. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. Okay, here we go. I'll tell you what I'm going to do. I'm going to give you nine. We'll say the bass group is nine, and I'm going to give ten as a bonus. Because ten's pretty tough. Okay, ten's a tough one. Artist, you might be able to snag. Title's going to be awkward. So nine is your core, and ten, well, I'm going to give you bonus points. Okay? Here we go. Ten. Awkward. Ten. Name that tune. Here we go. Jesus. Come on. Ready? Here we go.

Number ten. Jesus. Oh, yeah. I said, the artist you might be able to pick out. The tune's cut. The tune's cut. Ready? One more time. Number ten. Jesus. Okay, ready? Here we go. I'm going to fire them off in quick succession. One through ten. Here it comes. Ready? Hold on. I want to answer. Oh, you're going to play them all again? Yeah, I'm going to play them all again. And then I'm going to tell you what they are. Okay, here we go. Number one. Oops. Number one. Okay, here we go. Number one. Jesus. Number two. Jesus.

Number three. Jesus. Number four. Jesus. Number five. Jesus. Number six. Jesus. Number seven. Jesus. Number eight. Jesus. Number nine. Jesus. Number ten. Jesus. I don't know what that ten is. Why does everyone seem to get it? I have no idea what it is. I don't know. All right, here we go. Okay. Oh, my God. Okay, so first one. First one, chat. Well, actually, is anybody pretty confident? Yeah. We're pretty confident. Okay, number one is? Free Fallen by Tom Petty.

Why don't you let us know? Answer. You have the answer. I'm sorry. I thought Tiny Tim was pretty close. Get the ukulele in there. Come on, Dan. You got this one? I know this song. Then this is some of my biker funerals. There you go. Okay. That's not funny. It's kind of funny. All right, that was Free Fallen. They were very sad funerals. Free Fallen by Tom Petty. It's a point for each. Okay, keep track. Here we go. Next. Okay. Number two. I got Jesus is Just Alright. I actually got that. Did you? You got that? Okay, who was the artist? Soggy River Bottom Boys. It's the Brothers.

It's the Doobies, isn't it? It's the Doobie Brothers. Oh, Doobies. Yeah, of course. Doobie Brothers. Jesus is Just Alright. It's number two. Okay, so that's a point for Jesus is Just Alright and another point for the Doobie Brothers. One point. Four points on the table. Dan has got four. Were they good for Tiny Tim? You had one point for… Okay. Or, who else does a good version of Jesus is Just Alright? Robert Randolph and the Famer. Robert Randolph and the Famer. And Easy Talk. Yeah, that's one of my favorites. Okay, here we go. Number three. What was it? One Toke Over the Line. Okay. I don't have an artist. Chat? I had Death Leopard. Are you checking the chat to see if they're getting it? Allman. Tupac.

No. One Toke. Okay, good. One Toke, you got it. Good. One Toke was right. It's Brewer. It's Brewer and somebody else. Two guys. Who's the other guy? I don't know. Brewer took Todd Billing? I think I got completely ignored. I forgot to write it down. It's Brewer and somebody. I'm Brewer. I'm somebody. One Toke Over the Line. Okay, very good? Okay, that was number three. One Toke Over the Line. You got one point for that. Okay. Okay. Number four. I got this one. Hold on. Let's see if to the chat. Chat, you got this one? What's this one?

Is this a live version? Yeah. Nobody knows? They've given it away. This tune is called Jesus Just Left Chicago. By three guys with long beards. This is Mr. Hart. Yeah. Okay, anybody want to take a stab at the artist? ZZ Top? It is ZZ Top! Daniel! Yay! Nicely done. It's obvious. I had Bernie written down, though. Okay, very good. It's a one point for Jesus Just Left Chicago, one point for ZZ Top. Here we go. Number five. Chat. Since you didn't get that one, can you try this one? Bear in the Sky. Very good. Beams. Artist? Anybody got a shot of an artist? Candy for Nichols? Steve Miller. Steve Miller.

Steve Miller. No doubt. All right, it's got to be someone called like Freedom or something. No. Who is it? Norman Greenbaum. Norman Greenbaum. Where were you at on Norman Greenbaum? Okay. Only one point. Okay, here we go. Team. So if I'm going down, you're coming with me. Okay. So it's a point for Spirit of the Sky. How many points you got? Another point for Norman Greenbaum. If you were succeeding, I was by myself. Okay. Here we go. Next. Number six. Anybody? Personal Jesus. But I don't remember. I had Depeche Mode. It is Depeche Mode. What? You know what? I don't know.

What was that? Good job. Who was that? Good job. Good job. Good job. That's two points. Hold on. It takes me a while to fill in my giant points. That was Personal Jesus by Depeche Mode. Very good. That was not Beach Boys. Sorry, Dan. You had such a shot there. It's really close, Dave. Really close. Okay, Mike, this was the next one. Number seven was you said you might know the artist, but you don't. I definitely know the artist. Okay, here it comes. I still know the artist. Oh, well, that's Phil Collins. It is Phil Collins. Very good. With or without Genesis? It was Genesis. I'll give points for Phil Collins. Two points. Here we go. Ready?

Don't believe in me. Yeah. Yeah, this song rocks. I forgot what it even existed. I love that song. Yeah. It was, he put that out in the middle of all the big televangelist scans. Because I did this. Oh, nice. That equals a point. I've been talking to Jesus all my life. Yeah. Was that before or after his hair? No, he'd gone bald by then. Okay. Okay, ready? Number eight. Did you know Phil Collins with hair? We go back. Hey. Me and Phil are like this. I didn't think that he ever had hair. Actually. I'm probably mixing it up with someone else then. I thought he had hair in the beginning. I think it was just long. Maybe I'm thinking of Yul Brynner. Actually, I have a 16 month old daughter and she has, she looks like Phil Collins. She's got like very little hair up front and the big bushy curls in the back. It was just like Phil Collins.

She walks around the house going, we all. We all. That's all. Oh, yeah. He definitely had hair. Okay. Ben. Oh, yeah. He was, I'm sorry. Okay, here we go. Number eight. Number eight. Here we go. There's all kinds of hair. This is an acoustic person. How'd the chat do on this one? Sounds like, oh, John. Okay, there we go. This was one of the ones Bean gave away. It is Levon. Who was the, who was the artist? Oh, I didn't get that one right. That's right. Elton John. Sorry, woman. I had Mona Lisa and Matt Hatties. I had the Beatles. Okay, hold on. So supportive wife made two guesses. The first one, leave space on, leave spelled like you're leaving somewhere.

And the second, Leon. And the third guess is, crap, my typing is poor. Hold on. That'd be the great name for a band, though. Hold on, let's see if we can get to the chorus. What does that t-shirt look like? Yeah, if we ever want to change our name, we'll take that one. Well, the t-shirt probably won't be easy. Jesus is not like crap. Inviting. Hold on, let's see if we can get to the chorus so that anybody doesn't recognize it. This song enjoyed a resurgence after that one dude that sang it on American Idol. American Idol. I've never seen American Idol. Not even one time? I've never once. I walk out of the room quickly. You don't even watch it once and go. This isn't for me? I would rather mow the yard. Ooh. Man, Daniel. If you've seen my yard, you know I don't like to mow the yard. All right, here we go. Number nine. Here we go. I didn't listen to this ahead of time. This is not the original part. Long and true. Oh, yeah.

What's the chat got? Chat, got it? Mr. Robinson. Mr. Robinson. Very good. Who's the singer? It's a group of fellas. Hey, don't spend all your time congratulating the person who got it right. Where's the artist? Good job. Yay. Artist? Anybody? Simon and Garfunkel. Simon and Garfunkel. Simon and Garfunkel. Solid point. We'll take that point for you. I'll write it down on my sheet. You don't seem to have. Well, you have one available. I've already taken it. You can't use it now. Sorry. Okay. All right. So, good. Before the extra credit, what are the scores here? Nicole and I have 45. Wait a minute.

I only have so many fingers, but I'm pretty sure that you do not have that many. That's actually nine. Out of 18, Mike, how many do you guys have? We got 14. Okay. 14 out of 18? Ten models. Fingers count for more than one. What do you mean? It's on the paper. See, here's the thing. Can I just say this? He's been giving himself points for dancing. You have. And the dance has not been that good, so he's been deducting some things. Excuse me, sir. These are legitimate points. Well, Nicole and I have really five points. Okay. Five points. 14. Okay. Chat, we've got two, three, one. We failed. You guys, we've got to get out more. You guys spend too much time watching the show. Okay, so the extra credit, I think, is it. Here, I'll let you listen to it real quick. Is it Curtis Lowe? No.

Bob Dylan. It is not Bob Dylan. Oh, it's not? Oh, it's not? Oh, it's not? Oh, it's, I know who the artist is. I've seen this one all week. Most certainly is not George Strait. Think more Southern rock. Leonard Skinner. It is Leonard Skinner. Dan gets an extra point. Do I get bonus, even though I didn't catch it in the beginning? Yes. He was really wangy. Here we go. Thank you. Let's see what you think. Thank you. Remember, vote for Dan Hudson 2012. Mike, you got it yet? Do you know the name? Mike, you soon? No. It'll come up eventually here. And I'm coming home to see you, Jesus. Well, it feels so close this time. Please take mercy on the soldiers. Is this the name of the song coming up? It's coming up, yeah.

No, no. From the Florida, Georgia line. When they find me, they must kill me. Oh, Jesus, save my soul. I can't go back down to Rayford. That's it. The name of the song is Four Walls of Rayford by Leonard Skinner. Four Walls of Rayford. Yep. It was a bonus question. I'm taking the. It's like the Four Horsemen. I got that one right. Rayford is a prisoner. Oh. Is a prisoner in the South. Oh, my God. I legitimately had. I had legitimately had 15. Okay. I cheated the rest of them. I didn't know. I didn't know the name of the Phil Collins tune. I didn't know the name of the Skinner tune. And actually, what was the. What was the. Yeah, I didn't know the name of the Skinner tune. I didn't. And I had the Elton John song. I can't go back down.

I can sing this all week. Please don't do it. Hold on. You're only rewinding it so you can sing along with it. Please don't do it. Oh, I missed it. And they f***ing on a soldier. Sorry. I'm a terrible singer. But when. Hold on. I'm terrible. I'm going to see you. Hold on to you, Jesus. I love it. I love it. I'm going to hold on to you, Jesus. Hold on, Jesus. Okay. So, congratulations. Mike is the illegitimate winner of Name That Tune Jesus edition on Life in the Path. Thank you. You can just keep that pen. Thank you, guys. Give a applause. Way to come up. I'll come down and pick it up for you. So, I think. I'm going to work on it. But we'll probably do the.

Either God or Heaven edition. Next time we do it. The problem. You know what the problem is? There were a number of Jesus reference tunes in which are completely inappropriate. Okay. I'm going to come up with a Christian one for you guys. Okay. But you have to pick a secular theme. I could do that. Like bulls. I could do that. Or feet. Yeah, feet. No, there's a lot of feet in Jesus tunes. There is. Clouds. Of course. A Days of Elijah reference. No doubt. Running on the clouds. These are the days of Elijah. Hold on. I forgot. I need to change your name tab back to Dan Hudson, the Old Testament rocker. Every song Dan picks for his worship Sunday has got bones and skulls in it. It's some kind of heavy Jesus. From the dust back to the dust. Elijah and he smote him. I'm going to start writing my own tunes.

These people aren't old school enough. I'm going to write my own. It's a little song about Elijah. You're listening to Live from the Path on Des Moines Epilogue.com. What rhymes with a plate of armor? There's just not enough songs about the Urim and the Thurnum. Thurnum? Thurnum? Thurnum? Wait. What are those? What are those gems? Can you say that in the air? I think so. I'm pretty sure you can't say it at all. I suddenly lost my words. I once saw a haiku started by Dan and the first two lines were, Jealousy and leprosy, both are going to kill you. He didn't finish the rest. Just wait until we get to the bridge. The haiku was called Unfinished Haiku. Anyway, you're listening to Live from the Path on Des Moines Amplified.com. Thanks so much for being here. You can catch us during the week at livefromthepath.org. There are links on there to all the performances from all our bands, including Candy for Nichols. Those performances will be up there within the week, so you'll be able to click on them. You can listen to all the performances of the songs tonight. Also, you can take a look at the show that they were on.

All that stuff will be on there and a link to their website. Do you guys have tunes on your website, Dan? Yes. We have one right now, but we're going to be uploading them soon, probably by the end of the month. Awesome. I tried. The last one we did, that's the one that's on our website. Perfect. And what was the door to get in at House of Bricks? $5. So that's coming up. It's on Wednesday, starting at 5 o'clock. What did we say? Five bands. There's four bands. It starts at 5. Dark Horse goes on first. Then us, Candy for Nichols, at 6. And then Syndrome of Fire. And then Pilot for Tight is the headlining band. Okay. There you go. Cool. So that means for under $10, you can get in, score some water, and get a Candy for Nichols CD. They have food there, too. That's not going to fit in my $10. If you want to go backstage with us, it's only $50. $50 to get backstage?

To go backstage with us. Do we get a pass? For $50. I've got a Need to Breathe backstage pass that I think I need to add to the collection. It works for everything. I walk into Haiti and I go, backstage, please. Take me to the fresh produce. And Saturday we'll be at Southbridge Mall having a Christmas musical concert. What part of the mall? Down by JCPenney is on the big stage. Is that by the pretzel guy? There's not a pretzel guy. The cookies? The cookies are no longer there. Oh, come on. But yes, that's where it is. That mall can't keep anything. No. I haven't been there for a while. But the stage is great and it's going to be a good time. It is a cool stage. It's the one in the round, right? Yeah. Are you guys going to stand in the round? We are. Oh, that's going to be awesome. So it's like Christmas songs? We're going to do Christmas and worship music. Okay. And some of our original stuff, too.

All of our, well, not all. Maybe all? Yeah. I don't know. We'll see. We don't know what we're doing. We'll wing it. Well, at least you have a plan. We have a plan. We have an hour and 15 minutes. Oh, okay. So you're talking like Christmas carol type stuff? Or like Christmas songs? Christmas songs. Gotcha. We don't want anyone else singing. Tender, Tennessee Christmas. No. No. This is the Candid for Nichols show. Please do not hum along. Yes. With the well-known Christmas jeans. We have security that will escort you out if you sing at home. Excuse me, sir. Are you paid to be here? You just come to the mall and sing tunes? Is that your deal? Go stand back. The states look big enough for all of us?

No. Actually, speaking of Christmas tunes, you guys have one prepared for us tonight, correct? We do. We do. All right. So why don't you guys… Can I sing along with you or no? Oh, no. You won't be able to pick it up. No. I heard it. I heard it when I was walking in. It's a Thunder Chunk version. Are the words too big for me? Yeah. Well, let me tell you this. There's a number in it, so I don't know if that's going to work for you. The whole counting thing. Oh, yeah. It's best you… I only have like six fingers. Yeah. Well, you just… This don't work. I can't barely get anything done. But my cuticle work is through the roof. We three kings of Ori and Tar, bearing gifts we travel so far. Field and fountain, moor and mountain, following yonder star. Oh, star of wonder, star of night, star with royal beauty bright. Westward leading, still proceeding, guide us to my perfect light.

Oh, star of night, star with royal beauty bright. Westward leading, still proceeding, guide us to my perfect light. Glorious now, behold Him, arise. King and God, and sacrifice. Heaven singing, Alleluia, Alleluia, earth replies. The star of wonder, star of night, star with royal beauty bright. Westward leading, still proceeding, guide us to my perfect light. The star of wonder, star of light, star with royal beauty bright. Westward leading, still proceeding, guide us to my perfect light. Guide us to my perfect light. Guide us to my perfect light. We three kings of Ori and Tar. Did you see the little guitar thingy at the end of Pete? I noticed that. That was awesome. I kicked him in the shin. Then I gave him the thumbs up. I didn't do it in the right order. I should have done something different. But he was busy. He was on the radio playing. I wanted to say good job, but I didn't want to bust in the tune because that way you could use it for recording later if you needed to. I went about it wrong. Sorry. I'm not good at what I do. So that one will be on display at Southerns Mall this coming weekend? And we'll be full on. We won't be acoustic. What's the normal setup?

Like full guitars for you fellas? Electric, both? Yeah. Full drum set? Yes. Stick? Can you stick twirl? It's pretty heavy. They don't let me use sticks because of danger. I get poked. To yourself or others? To everybody. So I have to use spoons or something. Good decision, fellas. Yeah, I can, though, actually. Can you? I can twirl during the show and stuff, yeah. That's cool. Can you light them on fire? Again, fire. They don't let me do fire or sharp objects. Things like that. They're pretty limited with what they let me do. You need to be in the crowd, man. Well, he threw drumsticks at a class. We went to a school to do a performance, and he threw drumsticks, and all the kids start running at us. No, she doesn't need the microphone on this one. You know what? She always tilt.

Can I just take a few minutes and turn the Jesus meter off? Okay. Because she tends to tell stories with inaccuracy. Okay. What do you think so far? So we were at this school doing this show, and I had some sticks that were kind of broken that I didn't really use anymore, so I thought it'd be kind of fun to give them out. Well, we're still doing the show, so I gently kind of tossed one out to the emptiness in front of the band. A small child, you mean? I'm sorry? A small child? No. No. A lot of children. Not where I threw the stick. Okay. No kids so far. Okay, so at that point, when I threw the one, they thought that was great, and I thought, well, that's great, too. They'll want more sticks. One is good. And I continued to rush us, and I continued to throw the sticks. But I didn't know. Nobody was injured. No one was hurt. Uh-huh. Probably 22 kids from these risers just come piling down and attacking us, trying to get these drumsticks to keep. Well, they probably thought that you were at war with them.

It was like throwing crackers to a bunch of little ducklings. Someone throws something at you, that is an offense. It was. A sign of aggression. It was. And they're like, let's go. So why is that? When musicians… So we're rocking out, and he's throwing the drumsticks, and these kids are all running towards us, and I'm still rocking by, and I'm singing, and I'm going, that was a bad idea. Like, that was a really bad idea. But the kids loved it. It was for the kids. I like this move to the right that you do. Yeah. That was a bad idea. That was a really bad idea. It's very encapsulated. It sure was. You won me over. You like that? So why is it when musicians throw out, like, guitar picks and drumsticks, everybody goes crazy, and I've thrown out Bibles before. I'm a preacher. Nobody cares. That's sad. It's… I know. It really is sad.

Because most people probably bring a Bible. Well, yeah, that's a good point. What else can I throw out? What can I throw out? You know, Dan, it's kind of got to be hard to be a preacher every once in a while when most people listen to the message. I don't know. It feels like most of the time, most people are like… They're not listening? Yeah, woo-hoo! They're like, oh, man, I've got to change a bunch of stuff again. This guy stinks. Oh, man. You guys have to reuse your stuff. You can, like, write one song and do it over and over and over again. I write, like, one sermon and it's toast. Yeah. That's true. I can throw my notes at it and a second service. Grab the outline. Two-one's page three. It's a public side show. Start singing your sermons. Do not adjust. This has a good one in it. There you go. You should start singing your sermons and jumping around. You could be known as the operatic pastor. You could. You could.

And then they would love you. That's funny. Hey, God's back. What was it? What was it? That was it. No, no. What was the other one? Oh, what was the other one? It wasn't Huzzah. It was Kazam. Yeah, I think it was Kazam. Yeah, that sounds right. So I went on the Westboro Baptist Church website. You know who these fellas are, right? The big troublemakers, you know? So I go trolling their website to figure out exactly, you know, what kind of propaganda they're spewing out. And they've got this chat where this dude writes a blog and, like, he mentions something completely non-Jesus related and then goes, God smack! And then puts, like, three exclamation points by it. Gotcha! Yeah! I get God smacked all the time. Yeah, that's like, we just had the carpets clean. God smack! Yeah. I was like, boy, you guys are really stretching. Because the thing is, like, they're the face of Christianity to most people. And I'm like, boy, we got to do something about these fellas, you know?

I got to go check out, see what we're doing. These guys are awful, you know? We could throw Bibles at them. That's what we should do. Drive eyes. We should go to their rally. They would like that. Courtesy of Pastor Dan. Here's the whole thing. That's not King James! Here's the whole thing. Have a look at the rest of it. Oh, we have all kinds of stories, don't we? Man. No, we don't have any more stories. Wait, are you guys coming Wednesday night? Yes. Yeah. Yeah. We're missing small group, to the chagrin of the rest of the small group. You know what? I'm going to speak for the band. I'll tell you what. We will let you guys in for free. Do we get a backstage pass? How can you guarantee that? He can't. He just wanted something to make us look important. There's a doormate. Well, if you guys show up with us, we'll get you in.

We'll load your band. What time are you going to be there? If you guys get there at 4 o'clock. We'll load the band. We'll get you in. We do it every week. 4 o'clock. We'll put two words. We'll help us love you. You guys can get in for free. Okay. If you guys… Just load in. At 4 o'clock. If you're 4 o'clock, that's a good point. They can hear you. You don't have to be there. You guys work for a living. No, he told me. I'm on my own. Dan will load the band. He's going to wear his van-loaded shirt, and you're going to regret it. I always wear the shirt to load vans. That's what I do. So, yeah, if you come with us, you can get in. You know what? Never mind. This is just getting too complicated. Just show up and pay the $5. Can I borrow five bucks?

Yeah, just give that out now. When you get to the door, just tell them you're with a band. Six-figure cubicle modeling is so… You have to do with a British accent. I'm with a band. Actually, we could probably spread it out. That's not a good accent. I don't know, whatever. So that we're all not hightailing on your convo. Yeah, I'll say I'm with Syndrome of Fire. That way they don't say Candy for Nichols is robbing us the three tickets. Yeah. There you go. I'm with Syndrome of Fire. Dan, you're with… Pilot for Kite. You're with Megadeth. You can be with Dark Horse. Somebody can be with Candy for Nichols, and somebody can be with Syndrome of Fire. None of us can be with Pilot for Kite because we don't really know them. Oh, okay. Do you guys know the Dark Horse? Yeah. Yeah. Okay, we're in. Now, is this unethical to do this on a Christian radio show? What? Like, you know, trying to sneak you guys in for free. It's not sneaky. As opposed to doing it on a non-Christian radio.

It's not sneaky because we're on the radio telling them what we're going to do. I mean, if they don't hear us, then that's not their… We fired the shot. You've been forewarned at the House of Bricks. Okay. We're coming in. This Jesus Troop is on the way in the door. We can sell your… You can do your merch, people. Do you guys have merchandise, people? Oh, we do need merch, people. I'm in. Oh, we're doing it. We will definitely do that. I did that for Need to Breathe, too. Okay. I'm not name-dropping, but… Need to Breathe. Okay, I was. But I know the… They call me. They ask me my opinion on peanut butter. I still have the dude's name and thing on my cell phone here. Should I call him? Dan, you are totally misleading what exactly your interaction with Need to Breathe was. We were in the merch, people. And then we were the bus people, too. He was the van guy. I've done it twice, though. One was a merch table, and then one was the asset.

Okay, so he was… That one didn't turn out as anticipated. So, Need to Breathe's coming to town. They need a runner, a dude in a van to haul them places, you know? That was the second time, though. So, we have a van. Daniel? I'm going to make sure the facts are out. Okay, so, Daniel stood outside and tried to sell his Need to Breathe t-shirt to somebody else the first time. Do you want this horse picture? So, the second time, Need to Breathe comes to town. They need a van guy. Daniel says, yeah, I'm in. I'll do it, you know? So, we get the van. We clean the whole van out. It's looking sharp. It smelled. It smelled bad. But it looked good. It did look nice, though. Need to Breathe rolls into town in their tour bus. They don't come out. Dan runs the bus driver to the hotel. Exactly. Comes back. Hotel six. And Need to Breathe never comes out. They're fed in their tour bus.

I saw him. I said, oh, I'm your runner. And he looked at me like, you freak. Ew. Your van is smelly. I'm certain. No, I got a pass. They said, aren't you the merch guy for Candy for Nichols? Yes. You can't be both. I did take their merch guy to buy luggage, too. He needed new luggage? He didn't. Yeah. Because he had picked up. It was their last stop on the tour. And he had picked up extra stuff. And he was going to. I don't know. Something was going to be extra fees. It was going to be cheaper to get a new suitcase than pay the fees for extra weight. He sounded like he probably didn't have a whole lot of people to talk to that he'd tend to grab your ear with a random runner guy. Can you take a new ride to the store? You know, I was going to get a new luggage. It's just cheaper to get the fees of the luggage. That's certainly a chapter in your biography, Dan. I really had my daughter excited. So, yeah. You're ready to drive.

Need to Breathe around. She was all excited. She was just pumped. And I said, yeah, who's your daddy? And, yeah, it didn't work out so well. I lost points. Brilliant. But we took the bus driver to Long John Silver's. We even had a Need to Breathe CD playing, so when they got in, they knew we liked them. That's right. Don't you love favorites? She did the merch table that day, though. Actually, we were disappointed because we had… Have they open 24 hours, Long John Silver's? No. Darn it. No. Got you going, huh? I would like some hush puppies. Dan. What? You're trying to… No. Oh, you're in the middle of a process. No hush puppies. I'm gone now. I'm back. Okay. Thanks. So, 5 o'clock, House of Bricks, which is downtown here.

What's the roadage? Never been there. It's in the East Village. Yeah, it's in the East Village. It's on Grand and… Yeah. 6th and Grand. Yeah. They have a lot of concerts down there. This one's going to be the best ever. Ever. The address is 525 East Grand Avenue. Stacy says throw hush puppies after the sermon. That'll get them. I'll do it. The crowd grows to like three times its normal size, and they're all standing right by the front. And they're waiting for the end. Shut up. Just pray already with this number. Wrap it up. It's 525 East Grand Avenue. All right. Let's get with the altar call. One more hush puppy if you listen quietly. Okay. Who died for your sins? Anybody? Me? Me?

I know. Jesus. Oh, wait. You didn't give the answer. I gave the answer and then threw a hush puppy. That's for me. This is why I'm not the pastor. I knew the answer, though. What time does it start? I knew the answer, though. You just didn't give me a chance. I did. I did. I did. The show starts at 5. That's right. Okay. So when does the doors open? When does those doors open? Well, let me tell you what. They go open at probably like 430. Yeah, I would assume. You're supposed to only get there at 4? Yeah, I can help you load in. Really? I'm not going to make it. That doesn't give you much time to load in. I only have worked until 430. Well, with you guys there, it'll go faster. Yeah.

Do you really want me? I'll go help. Yeah, seriously. He means that. He will be there. That would be awesome, but I would love to have you guys come to the show. You guys have been awesome, and I just come in for free. Oh, no. We're definitely going to be there. Sunday, 7 a.m., we unload two trailers. Just saying. Is that in the morning or at night? It's in the morning, yeah. Yeah, usually I've got stuff going on at 7 in the morning on Sunday. I'm sleeping. No, it's Sunday. I'm praying. I'm reading my word. Fasting. I'm fasting. I watch Jesse Duplantis. Jesse Duplantis. After Olsteen Duplantis comes on, I don't even have to leave my chair. I get brought up, and then I get brought down a little bit. Olsteen says I'm great as I am. Duplantis says, got to change some stuff. I think that's because Olsteen had all that anointing with oil, but it got stuck in his hair, and he kept it up. Is that a fly? And welcome to the TV and Bible humor.

For those of you unaware, Joel Steen is a televangelist. I just can't get the Jesus off of me. Oh, man. You can send your comments to bin at livefromthepath.com.org. As well as a seed offering. Please send your dollars to Joel Steen for a more expensive shampoo. You're listening to Live From the Past. I'll be there 4 o'clock on DesboisNepthepath.com. I suppose there's a back door somewhere. I haven't even been to the front door. I've never been to Housebrook. That's right. We'll both be walking around, roaming. I might try to swing out of work early. I'll see if I can be there before. That'd be fun. Yeah. And you guys can have us back and talk about how awesome that show is. I'll get a free t-shirt, too, so I can advertise. Do you guys have t-shirts? Do you guys have t-shirts? Yeah, we do. We've got t-shirts. Anything else for you? We're going to use a new t-shirt. I'm going to roll. We actually brought some posters for you guys. I'll find you. This is sweet. We've got some MLCDs.

Oh, I hope you have t-shirts. We do. We do. Because otherwise I'm going to wear the poster. And it's going to be very awkward. Is it a big poster? We have one big poster. What size is it? It's only a 5×7. Oh, man. You've got children small for me. We have… All right. I like to make an entrance. I'm not going to do that. Look at those abs. In their full glory. Put another shirt on, Daniel. Look how they roll. I can just see Dan at the front of the stage dancing like this. Wearing an extra small t-shirt, throwing hush puppies. It's the Dan. I'm going. Life in the path of the momentify.com. If you didn't want to see the show, Dan's going to dance. Show up. I'm there. I'm there. With all the free gear. You know what?

It's the serious face I can't have. When Dan goes into dancing mode, his face changes. He's like happy. He's like… He's the most happy-go-lucky guy I've ever met in my life until he dances. We weren't necessarily looking for backup dancers, but hey, if it works… Oh, it's in. It's in. I need their guys on the face. The funk hits Dan like a baseball bat. Yes. Pieces of my heart. I'll be picking up some new moves here in the next couple of days. But the old ones are working so well. How could you get rid of them? Oh, actually, I failed. So we are all from Pathway Church in Johnston. Yes. This is for you guys in the chat and you guys in the room. We meet at Wallace Elementary. We have two services. One at 9 o'clock, one at 10.30. So if you're looking for a church family, we'd love to have you out. More importantly, if you're looking for a relationship with Jesus Christ, we'd like you to come out to Pathway Church and we'd love to talk to you about that in an awkward fashion. If you come in and say, I'm a sinner, and raise your hand, we'll swarm you. Maybe throw Bibles. Bring pies to your house. Creepy.

No, I can't make any promises about the church or, frankly, the show, except for we're just dudes trying to stay on the path to Christ and we're trying to do it the right way. So we'd love to see you out there if you can. If you do show up, introduce yourselves. That'd be great. Yeah. Show up at 7. Show up at 7. Unload the trailer. Two hours to kind of warm up. The trailer unload as he does at all the shows. We'll give you a free t-shirt. I need to order more, actually. Speaking of t-shirts. It's kind of a labor of love, right? Yeah. Yeah. It's kind of like an Old Testament Levite thing. Of course it is. There's going to be a song there somewhere. Of course it is. We're going to write one. We need to unload the trailer. Grab my sword. That reminds me of a song. Do you have any moose bones that we can bring to the trailer unloading? For shame. Turtle, turtle. All right. So I'll give you guys $5 if next time we come back you guys have written a song using

the word smote and Nineveh. And Methuselah. Mike, you've got two minutes. Okay, I want it. So Methuselah, Nineveh, and Smote. Okay. You have to write a song. While they're doing that, can you guys have one more tune down? Lifted? We have one more tune. You guys be willing to play that one for us? Yeah. This one's brand, brand new. Like, we just wrote it last week. On the way here. We just wrote it last week, and when we play it heavy, it's really… It better not have Methuselah, Nineveh, or Smote in it. Smote in it. I don't know where he came up with that, but that was good. Hey. Okay. Okay, this is Lifted with Candy for Nichols. Yeah. And you are listening on Live from the Path. Go ahead. The many times I have denied you, pretending you were not there, choosing the wrong path to follow, how could you still possibly care? Broken my heart was, trying to numb the pain, wondering what it was. It's my purpose, watching this life to gain, then there you were, standing in front of me.

You were holding your hand out, and now I am finally free. I can see. I can see. Slowly my life is changing, every day. The things I have clinged to, slowly fade away. You see, the darkness is lifting, a little more today. Broken my heart was, trying to numb the pain. Wondering what is my purpose, watching this life to gain. And then there you were, you were standing in front of me, holding your hand out. Now I am finally free. I can see. I can see. Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now I'm found. I was blind, but now I see. Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I can see. I can see. I can see. I can see. I can see. I can see. I have been lifted up. My soul's been lifted up. And there you were, standing in front of me, I have been lifted, I have been lifted. I like that one. I like them all, but I love that one. I bet that one rocks hard live, huh? It does.

Yeah. Yeah. Kind of reminds me of Methuselah. Are you ready? All right, Mike. So what key do you want it done in? Sean will play the guitar and you can sing it. It should be an E or something. All right, Mike. Oh, yeah, the chords. Oh, my gosh. This guy is like a musician galore. Yeah, don't hose with him. This is on his first CD. Oh, but you know what? I left my wallet in the car. I have it. Good to know. Hey, how much did I say I give you? 15? I don't have your wallet. A free ticket? $87? I'll give you $5. Here, give me my wallet. Sweetness. Anyway, that was Candy for Nichols. You can find them online at candyfornichols.com. Again, they will be at the House of Bricks on Wednesday and also at Southridge Mall on the south side of Des Moines on Saturday.

Okay. Now, I have to like it before I give you the money. Okay. That's a rook. You got this covered, don't you? No. All right. Hands on. Oh, man. Hold on. Hold on a minute. Okay. I got you. Your chord's going to get in the way, Mike. I'm tall. I'm super tall. There you go. All right, Mike. Let's have it. All right. Here we go. Okay. Here we are. Do you have a name for the song? It's called Methuselah Went to Nineveh and God Smote Him. Methuselah Went to Nineveh and God Smote Him. That's not really true, but I don't care. Someone grab my sword and the moose bone. Because it's time to clean Joel Osteen's hair. Here's the five dollars, I promise.

There you go. He deserves another five. That was pretty good. That's classic. I will also make up any tunes for five more dollars. Oh, you need an opening act? Hey, can I get that five back after the show? Yeah, definitely. I was just going to waste it anyway. I was going to give it to the pastor for offering or something. I don't know. Yeah, I was just going to waste it. We'll leave it right here for show, and then we can have it back. I don't even know what to do with it. Hey, I need my pad back. Oh, sorry. I wrote down my tune. Stacey says she's going to be singing that all night long. Yeah. You know what? Next time we record, when we do the album, we'll put that as a hidden track on the CD. Oh, that'd be good. You put it as a non-hidden track? It's gold. Methuselah went to Nineveh and God smote him. Come on! That's catchy. We're going to be singing that at camp all next summer. That's not really true, but I don't care. I don't care.

See, that's a song you can dance to. Say it again. Save it for home. I'm going to play it over and over on YouTube. Hey, do I get my own YouTube clip? Yeah, I'll put you out there. Okay, so I've usually exited it out of the YouTube clips because they start talking about serious things, and I just go, yeah, yeah, yeah. And then I lean back in my chair and let other serious stuff go on. All right. Here we go. The moment you've all been waiting for. Uh-oh. Non-biblical signs of the apocalypse. Okay, ready? That was it. What a transition. Okay, really? You want to look at the dancing guy for a while? There he is. At least we were in tune on that. He'll do this for a solid minute if I don't stop him. There you go. Okay, here we go. So, I guess to re-preface, there are a number of spots in Revelation that describe the upcoming signs of the apocalypse. What we're going to talk about are not in there at all. However, it does lead me to believe that some of these things are the signs of the end times, whether documented or otherwise. These are non-biblical.

It makes you wonder. Yeah, it does make you wonder. And these are non-biblical signs of the apocalypse. Here we go. Oh, sorry. I'm waiting for it to come up, and I thought I'd laugh in the middle. Here we go. Here it's coming. Oh. Okay, this is from the Metro, November 19th, Metro Newspaper in London. Flush Tracker lets you track your poo in honor of World Toilet Day. Byline is, have you ever wondered where your poo goes once you flush the toilet? Now, thanks to the wonders of the internet, you can find out with the new site, flushtracker.com. Do you physically insert it, or do you just put it in? That's not required, Dan. Come on. Does the CD have to be open? We're going to need a new computer. So there we go. And, Chad, we're going to do a vote here at the end of this, and you're going to tell me this is actually the end is near or we've got some more time. So those are your two votes. Here's the details. Flush Tracker allows you to enter the time and location of your most recent toilet visit and uses Google Maps to let you track your faces as they make their way through your local sewers. With path, the poo has traced highlighted in neon blue like kind of a scat fetishist version of Tron. Okay. So let's see. At the time of our writing, and again, this was back in early November. At the time of writing, our test poo had sauntered down Kensington High Street through London's classic

Joseph Bazalgette-designed sewer system, then turned left onto Earl's Court Road before making a sharp right and heading in the direction of Hammersmith and ultimately freedom. Freedom? Just a full disclosure, we did not actually do a poo. We made up one for the purposes of journalism. I don't know. Poo Tracker. Now, this is only available in, like, Eastern Europe. You can do it in Russia. In fact, I pulled it up because I tried to do it, and you can't do it. Wait, wait, you tried? I tried to track one. Oh, my gosh. The Russians. The Russians are ahead of us. That's what I was saying. We just can't do anything. So this isn't available at Best Buy. No, for sure. No, it's online. It's free, but you can only do it in, like, in England and in Russia. If you put it on there, it defaults to the Kremlin. Like, it starts at the Kremlin as if you took a poo at the Kremlin, and then it flows through. Anyway, so, Kremlin, communism, this one's on you. Flushtracker.com, the end is near, or we've got some more time. Hmm. What are your thoughts? Mike? I'd say the end is near. The end is near.

Flushtracker.com? Yeah. It's the sign of the end of times? I would say that if somebody comes up with something like that, the end should be near. Yeah. Here's the thing. Literally. Literally. Like, who? I just don't know what I'm saying. Like, usually when these kind of things are done, you're like, well, I'm glad that's over with. But these people want to hold on to it longer. Like, well, I've gotten rid of it, but… Is it that painful? I'd like to know where it's going without me. It's whole existence. We've been together. I created you. I give you life. It's like having… We have been one. It's like I say where you go, and when I say it's time that you're done, you're done. You know? But then you're like, where do you go after I leave? So you can't do that farewell ceremony anymore, because you're still… Yeah. Yeah. Instead of your usual, I bid you… Although, if I were the poo, I would say, you severed ties. You have no business following me.

This is on you, buddy. I'm out of here. I didn't choose this. What did I do to you? The end is near. Anyway. Okay. The chat, I guess, sounds like, for the most part, is they're saying, we've got more time. I'm saying the end is near. I think the end is near. What's that? It's not you, it's me. Don't look so gloom. Nice. All right. Here we go. From the same newspaper, not from the same date. Well, maybe just from the same date. Here we go. Piggy bank from a real piglet causes uproar. All right. Needless to say, the piggy bank to end all piggy banks has not gone down too well with animal welfare groups. Made from an animal that has been preserved by a taxidermist, the piglet bank is the brainchild of designer Cullen Hart from Belfast. Hart 34 designed it for a laugh and charges 2,500 pounds for each one, not including postage and packaging. All right. Piggy bank made out of a real pig. Taxidermate.

2,500 pounds. What's the rough American value? Any idea? It's $1.30. Yeah. $1.30. It's about $1.30. Yeah. Up at one pounded? Uh-huh. Yeah. So that's 2,500 plus a third of that. That's a lot of money for a pig bank. Another $8,000. Yeah. Or $800. So you're like, yeah. Yeah. That's outrageous. It's the end. $3,300. The end is near. $3,300. That's the end. For a taxidermy pig. No. If you've got to get a loan to save money. Just because somebody made up something stupid doesn't mean you have to indulge in it. I'd say we still have more time. That means someone's doing it, though.

He's a lone crackpot. I don't know. He's on his own. The Lord's making an example of him. It's the end of Christ. I think it's being a good steward. Really? To the pig community? No. Just, you know. You should see this pig. Hold on. Let's see if I can get a picture of this pig. Well, it's like the Indians. You know how they use the whole buffalo? Yeah. It's kind of the same concept with the pig. Can I see this pig? Would you have to, like, shell him? Like, you can't just. You know, you can't just chop him up, I guess. Like, you know. Well, that's the taxidermy show. Did you open up the pig to get the money out? That's what I was wondering. Is there, like, a little plug? Where is that plug? Is it, like, the tail you kind of, like. You know what? I'm sticking with my original.

Do you track it when it comes out? We've got more time. That thing's cool. I don't know. I'm just wondering. It looks all right. How do you get it out? That's what we're wondering. I was trying to figure out. Yeah. Is there a tracker? A tracker. I'd say we've got more time. Anybody? More time. Chat says more time. Daniel, more time? I think it's over. Candy for nickels? More time. More time. I'm the lone voice. Okay. I'm going to get me a sign. All right. Here we go. Okay. Teacher used sexual harassment dice to decide classroom punishments. Okay. Here we go.

The 59-year-old teacher at Ogie Elementary School in Iruma Elementary. Sitema Prefecture apparently had three dice, one with sides mic marked with words hug and forgiven, another marked with kiss, snot, and forgiven, among others, and the third marked with snot and forgiven. Students who forgot to bring something to class were forced to roll one of the dice. The teacher had apparently admitted to kissing one boy and acting as if he would put snot on one girl. So like your punishment for coming in and he rolled the dice and it says snot, and then he, and then a place. The end is near. The end is near. That's how I read this. I'd say the end of that career is near. He's been doing it for five or six years and just got, recently came to light. He's in Japan. Oh, Japan? He's in Japan. Oh, they can do whatever they want there. Yeah, they do anything they want in Japan. It's huge in Japan. Yeah. Anyway, snot is very big in Japan. It is. But I gotta do something with it. There's so many people. Yeah. Okay. I don't know. That's weird. Like, how would it not come up that you got the knot diced?

I don't know. I think it would have come up. Daniel. Here we go. You're out. Oh, yes. There's so many people. The snot is rampant. You gotta clean that down. I like normal people where they just get rid of it. No. Wipe it on somebody else. Let's see. Chat. Anything? End is near. Okay. That's Beans' first vote for end is near. If it's not. If it's Japan, we have more time. What do you mean this will be the last show of Life in the Past? It's coming to an end. That's it. Life in the Past is going out. You think it's funny, but it's snot? You guys are awesome. It's snot. This is why I keep you around. The year of our Lord. This is the week.

We're always behind the Japanese. All right. Here we go. Here we go. All right. Next story. Non-biblical signs of the apocalypse. Bible.com investor sues company for lack of profit. A shareholder of Bible.com sued the company's board members, accusing the ordained ministers of failing to profit from the gold mine potential of the namesake internet property, according to a lawsuit. James Solakian filed the lawsuit in Delaware's Chancery Court against the board of Bible.com for breaching their duty by refusing to sell the site or run the company in a profitable way. In is near. In is near. There you go. That's what we're doing. Well, now, see, should they have offered it up for public offering? Because this is the kind of trouble you get when you IPO a company, isn't it? Yeah. Well, no, they sold shares in it, right? Right. They did. Maybe if you were going to run Bible.com legitimately, you'd have known better than to just keep it as Bible.com and have no shareholders. I mean, because you made it into a business. You made the Bible a business, and that was the initial guy's fault.

Because you wouldn't have this problem if you wouldn't have made the Bible a business. Tell that to Zondervan. All right. Okay, so here was what he said. Here's what sold me, right? Because at first I thought the it is near. This company, a guy sued Bible.com for not profiting. But here was their business plan. This actually was the ultimate story here. The business plan stated, It is the goal of the board of directors of Bible.com to become very, comma, very profitable. Very, very profitable. What, from ads or from what? Yes. Yeah, from ads. So advertisements. But it was also to be governed in accordance with Christian business. Well, we've talked about this, though. There's nothing wrong with profiting. Well, we did talk about this, but we kind of sanctioned it out. Like, I look at this to think. Don't look it up there. There's a way to do the Lord's business and make a living. But taking, see, I don't know if that covers it. You shouldn't say do the Lord's business in the context of what we've been talking about. I wasn't even thinking about that. I'm just sorry. I'm just… Thanks, Pastor Dan. Why does it start at the criminal?

It just shouldn't be done. That's exactly what you would… Great. You're a hoots with the chat, who was also thinking that very same thing. Thank you. Thank you. Very nice. Once again, we are all on the path to the Lord. It was very wide at the moment. Even the Lord's path has outhouses. Everybody move back to the middle. All right. So, I'm within his near. You think this is a horrible? Well, here's the thing. Is the guy… Who started it? Does it say? Like, did a guy… You don't say? Like, if once you put it out for… One guy bought the domain name for $50. He got an offer to sell it four years later for $100,000. He turned it down. But he sold, publicly sold stock under the heading that they were going to be very, very profitable. But he sold stock. Well, yeah, yeah. He's a crook. The guy that's suing him, I'm not the end is near. I'm not the end is near as the very, very profitable guy.

Yeah. The guy that's suing him, whatever. I mean, everybody who does something for… And you guys intend to make a profit, right? I mean, I intend to get a paycheck if I put out enough hushpuppies, you know? Yeah, hushpuppies. We really need to go get… They're closed. They're definitely closed. Somebody's got to make them out there. It's 10 to midnight. They need to have 24 hours. Anybody who's making hushpuppies after midnight, I don't think we want. Dumpster dive! Actually, I'll never eat a homemade hushpuppie. Never. We'll just go to the quick trip and get the cheeseburger hot dog all wrapped into one. Like a catfish bait, you can… It's kind of the same thing, isn't it? There's no tracking device that comes with that. I don't think so. Yeah, it left my house… It's its own tracking device. It's a quick trip. On the roller. That's very detailed. Okay. So we're with end is near on the Bible guy. Bible.com man. Daniel?

I'd say no. I'd say it's been that way forever. I mean, isn't that what ticked Jesus off in the first place in the temple? He's knocking over tables. I mean, people are always trying to make a profit. Paul said, hey, people are making money off the gospel. At least Jesus is being preached. Yeah, I'd say that's okay. It's like Jesus is being preached. I mean, he wouldn't say it's okay. He's just like, don't worry about it. I mean, yeah. Well, that's true. On the Bible.com, I mean, it's… I've used it. Yeah? So, you know, I mean, I've been… So, I mean, if it's a legitimate thing, it's okay to… I mean, the Bible is on there. You're pouring your life into it. I feel like there's, like, you know, dirty advertisements or any appropriate stuff on there. You know, there's still legitimate… Should we advertise? Okay. Live in the path? Okay, Daniel. I got five bucks. We were just talking about dirty things, though. I'm sorry, what?

We were just talking about dirty things. True. Pugle. Where did that come from? Yeah. Is that true? Pugle. Pugle was dirty. Damn, I was like, where'd this go from? What conversation were you going for? Somebody just said something about it being dirty, and I said we were talking about dirty things. It was there. It's getting late, and you guys just don't remember what you said. Pugle. I don't have no clue. It's a very natural process. There's nothing dirty about it. Oh, good. Yeah, you didn't say that. I often have to listen later and say, what in the world did you say? I have no idea what that went on last night. People don't like it? You can't sit on the… It's natural. Everything's fine in here. Stop by. Just doing natural stuff. Okay. Here we go.

And this one is solely a website reference. You can visit jesustoasters.com. And these are… Wait, I think I have a video. Hold on. Oh, yeah. I got a video. Okay, here it comes. Hold on. It's going to be awesome. It's going to be awesome. Yes, the Jesus Toaster is real. It comes with seven different heat settings. Give us today our daily bread. Frozen, reheat, cancel. A convenient clean-out tray in the bottom as well. In a little under two minutes, your toast comes up. Looks good. And tastes good. This video was brought to you by jesustoasters.com. Make sure to visit and enjoy. That's beautiful. That's beautiful. jesustoasters.com. It is a toaster that toasts an image of Jesus with it, which it looks like sun rays behind him. I hope we have more time. So I have time to buy the Jesus Toaster. That thing's cool. It's…

Oh, okay, Mike. What do you think the cost is? It's got to be $25. Dan? $39.95. It's got… Jesus… What? It's exactly $39.95. Wow. Did you cheat? No, he didn't cheat. Lord, how much for your toaster? How much is it going to be? Thank you for playing. I'll pay. Come on, Johnny. Don't mess with the Old Testament prophet. All right. So every third caller gets free moose bones. Okay, any of you guys ever… Any of you Glee fans? No. My daughter was kind of excited about it last year. This year, she kind of turned a corner because they turned a corner. They had a big show on some Jesus Toast this year, and everybody praying to the toast. It turned to my stomach, literally. It was… Of course, what do you expect? It's Hollywood.

They were mocking Jesus the whole time, and it got deleted off of everything. Why is Glee okay and American Idol's down the tuber? I don't think it is. I fought it tooth and nail, and now it's gone. I have not seen Glee, but we met Superchick about a month ago when they were in town. Yeah. And they said that I look like one of the ladies on there, Kristen Chenoweth. I hadn't watched it enough to… Here's why my daughter kind of liked it, because… I haven't even seen it. Her show choir was down in Branson, like… Well, she's a junior in college now, so a few years ago, her senior year, and they won the national thing, okay? And some dude was there and watched it, and that's what the show was based on. Yeah. And they really think it was probably her choir that they watched. They said, that's really kind of cool, and they kind of took the concept. That's cool. So she had that little connection, but then they got… I don't know. I'm real sure. I'm going to turn you guys off. I'm real sure. I told this story. Is this one of those end is near kind of things? So, my daughter was… Let me tell you. And when they asked her to come on American Idol… I was born. Well, it had nothing to do with her.

She happened to be in the choir. You know what happened to me about 10 years ago? I was running down the street going, Mr. Gower, Mr. Gower. And the next year, It's a Wonderful Life comes on TV. Mr. Gower. It was the weirdest thing. I had something tied around my finger, and I was kind of nervous, and there was a crow I love you, Mike. I love you a lot. That's the Mr. Potter. Looking through the… That was a good invitation. One-y. One-y. Mr. Gower. Mr. Gower. You didn't mean to switch the box, did you? No, no, no. Same thing. Oh, shut up, George. Oh, yes, there's old George Bailey. Oh, boy, oh, boy, George. Oh, boy, oh, boy. Joseph! Joseph! Joseph! No, no, no, no. I love that one. Joseph! Oh, shut up, you.

Okay, we're definitely doing that for our Christmas special. We're doing a three-man version of It's a Wonderful Life. Okay. Can we get that done in two hours? Can we do a speaking It's a Wonderful Life? We're going to have to truncate some stuff. Okay. Yeah, we'll have to. My robe. We're going to have to cut some stuff out. I will not be playing either Donna Reed or George Bailey. Mike, you could be that guy where everybody's jumping to the pond and he goes, Oh, well. And then he goes in. You're that guy. I'm over here in the hydranti bushes. It's a very interesting situation. That's a lie. Harry Bailey went to war. You know him? When Ma Bailey's harassing him at the door, he's like, you know him? That's a lie. That's a lie. Billy's been ever since he lost his business. Yeah, there's no doubt we're doing that. We're doing it. It's a Wonderful Life. What are you guys doing on Christmas? We might need some extra people. Give me a call.

I'll do anything. I still think we need to do Scrooge. Don't you have a hand-muddling job that day? Scrooge? No, not on Christmas Day. Or Christmas Story. Okay. Oh, shoot. Hold on. I think I had two more. Oh, here's a recent one. Here we go. Headline. Steve Johnson of the Buffalo Bills wide receiver blames God on Twitter after dropping game-winning pass. Now, dig this one. This is awesome. This takes a lot of stones from this guy. Here we go. I praise you 24-7. Seven exclamation points. And this is how you do me? Six more exclamation points. You expect me to learn from this? Three question marks. How? Three question marks. I'll know apostrophe. Never forget this. Two exclamation points.

Ever! Two more exclamation points. Or three more exclamation points. And then, thanks though. The end is surely near. I like the guy. You're in the end zone. He blatantly dropped this pass. I saw the highlight of it. So he gets it. He just plain drops it. And what comes to his mind is, this is how you do me? This is God's fault. I make millions and this is what you do? You embarrass me? On national television? My ego is in the right place. What happened? I pray to you 24-7. Thanks though. I love it. The end is near for that guy. The end is near. I hear he apologized though, afterward. To who? The Lord? To whoever. Whoever, yeah. Some public thing. Disaster.

I think, okay, that was a little silly. Sorry, Lord. I kind of overstepped my bounds there. I kind of blamed you for something that wasn't really your deal. Maybe I did it. Maybe I dropped it. Alright, here we go. Final. Non-biblical signs of the apocalypse. Are you going to play the intro on the way out? Okay, definitely. With the revival of this horror genre, it seems to come some unexpected problems with some nutty young folks. Two self-described practitioners of paganism and vampirism have been arrested in Arizona after they stabbed their roommate in an attempt to drink his blood. Bob Maley, 25, told police he had previously allowed his friends, 20-year-old Amanda Williamson and 24-year-old Aaron Homer, to drink his blood. But when he refused last Monday, the two stabbed him in their apartment. Now, hold on. Dig the website that initially reported. Atozfamily.com reports that firefighters were at the scene for an unrelated call when they saw Maley, covered in blood, run out of the apartment. The police were immediately alerted. I like the firefighters who see this and call the cops. Better send somebody. That's not fire. Homer is charged with aggravated assault and Williamson is charged with false reporting. Is it legal to drink somebody's blood? It should be. Is it stealing? It's theft of blood?

Well, they can give it to you. Well, you can offer it. It's just kind of weird. What's the difference between me putting it in an ambulance bag and then you getting it, you know? It's kind of an occultic thing. No, they just want you to use the system. Go to the hospital and let them take it out of you. I'll get my own blood, thank you. Yeah, just say, look, can I have some? Give me a spoon. Also, Maley, who was the man who refused to be drunk, was also arrested on an unrelated outstanding warrant. He's also had trouble with the law. Amazing. Is that the end is near or we've got some more time? I think that's the end is near for that one. I think we've got more time. I'm in. All right. And that, friends, was this week's version of the non-biblical signs of the apocalypse. Oh, okay, Mike. Mike, there's demand for the Jonah joke on the chat. All right. I forgot about my joke that got banned to the 11 o'clock hour. Okay. Now, Allison, now, it's not my fault. I didn't, so I perfectly chose a wild-looking guy. I did not know, I think he's wearing shorts. So I don't think he's, like, no pants at all. I think he has shorts on just in high socks.

He's a California Jew. He's a Jewish man, and they don't wear pants in California. Well, what's the Jewish part? You know Jews don't wear pants. They wear robes. He's got a Jewish hat on and a dreidel. Or not dreidel. What's it called? What are those rules called? Something different? Who's with me? Who knows Jewish people? Oh, uh. I saw the jazz singer. Saw the jazz singer? I don't even know what that is. Goyim. Goyim? You just said something Jewish-sounding. I think they're called something. That's actually, a Goyim is actually a vegetable. Really? No. Sounded good. Are you talking, I've got to be careful how I say this. You're talking about the plaflac, plaf, yeah. Yeah, here we go. Plaflactery or something. Oh, pails. Pails.

And the little girl goes, well, I guess I'll just have to ask him when I get to heaven. And the teacher goes, well, what if he didn't go to heaven? And the little girl says, then you can ask him. I don't get it. Banned for the 11 o'clock hour. That was good. Why was that banned? That doesn't seem that bad. No. What was it terrible? You're just condemning someone to hell for eternity. I know.

It's a pity. It's not my fault they don't believe in the Lord's power for a whale to eat a human. I can only do so much. You will listen to Live from the Path on Des Moines Amplified.com.
