Segments

  • Cold open: mic hair and show intro 0:33–1:48
The broadcast opens with a running gag: for two weeks straight the show has been stopped mid-broadcast while hair is picked off the front of a microphone. The host then introduces the show, rates the night highly on a one-to-five cougar-to-billy-goat scale, and previews the evening.
  • Lineup preview and guest introduction 1:49–3:07
The host previews the night: Name That Tune, Heaven Edition in the first hour, and a New Year discussion about what God wants from each person this year. Jessa and Jordan Anderson are introduced as singer-songwriter guests in the studio, with a plug for jessaanderson.com and her Facebook page.
  • Facebook friending, blocking, and four-dimensional social awkwardness 3:08–9:42
A long banter segment on Facebook etiquette: a pending friend request from a woman the host's father used to date, whether to accept strangers, blocking 175 of a couple hundred friends, 'National Unfriend Day,' and being socially awkward online. The hosts also tease a comedy animal video to bridge the hours and riff on a 'farting preacher' YouTube clip.
  • Interview: how Jessa and Jordan met, and the Nashville proposal 9:43–13:33
Jessa Anderson tells how she met Jordan: touring with Cedarville University music teams, an overnight stop at the Anderson household in Altoona, and marriage 13 months later. Jordan's proposal involved her favorite song, 'I'll Be' by Edwin McCain arranged by a Belmont professor, with a string trio and background singers on a Nashville hilltop at sunset, after a first (bad) sushi dinner.
  • Setting up 'Everybody Has Those Days' 13:34–14:48
The hosts set up the Andersons' first performance, joking about crashing her website with traffic, and introduce the song 'Everybody Has Those Days.'
  • Performance: 'Everybody Has Those Days' 14:48–17:36
Jessa Anderson performs 'Everybody Has Those Days' live in the studio, a song about clumsy, messy days built on the line 'the beauty is often uncovered by facing the pain.'
  • Song backstory and clumsy-days stories 17:54–23:35
Jessa explains the song's origin: literally having 'one of those days,' including whacking her head on a wall during a card game. The hosts trade clumsiness stories: a New Year's midnight text sent to the wrong number ('Happy New Year's, boy'), a mic stand crashing into a cymbal during a sermon prayer, and texting slang like 'cuz with a Z.'
  • Black lights, bowling stains, and roller skates 23:35–25:44
The Andersons describe spending New Year's Eve performing for teenagers under black lights. Banter follows about black-light bowling revealing a giant mustard stain on washed pants, and childhood roller-skating nights: rented skates versus owning your own pair.
  • Interview: the songwriting process 25:45–28:25
Asked whether it is hard to find inspiration, the Andersons say they make a conscious effort not to just write a tune and 'slap God in there.' Jessa describes the post-recording creative block ('I've exhausted all my creative energy') and how living with the new songs until they become old songs restarts the writing. They travel in a Honda CRV made tight by a new baby and a keyboard they call their 'arch nemesis.'
  • Going full-time in music: calling, commitment, and dad advice 28:25–35:41
The Andersons describe deciding to pursue music full-time: 'now is the time… what do we believe in more than this?' Their philosophy: if a gig doesn't lose money, do it; play to one or two people in a coffee shop like it's 40,000. They counsel the host on his college-senior daughter's music-versus-career dilemma: be fully committed, don't wait to be discovered, put the work in yourself.
  • Introducing 'Not Myself Anymore' 35:41–38:01
The Andersons introduce their breakup ballad 'Not Myself Anymore': if you were just broken up with it's commiseration; if you did the breaking up, 'you're going to feel real bad about yourself.' A host jokes about weeping into the camera during the song.
  • Performance: 'Not Myself Anymore' 38:18–42:31
Jessa Anderson performs the breakup ballad 'Not Myself Anymore' live in the studio.
  • BEC label deal and signed-CD banter 42:31–44:25
The Andersons share that BEC, a label out of Seattle, is re-releasing their CD with no re-recording needed. The hosts beg for signed copies, joke about a breakup-song single aimed at the show, and plug the Andersons' upcoming Sunday appearance at Grace Church.
  • Plugs and Name That Tune, Heaven Edition setup 44:26–48:44
The host plugs Pathway Church in Johnston (meeting at Wallace Elementary) and livefromthepath.org, then introduces the Name That Tune, Heaven Edition game: 12 secular song snippets containing the word 'heaven'; players name title and artist. Includes banter about repeatedly calling Jordan 'Jared' Anderson.
  • Name That Tune, Heaven Edition: all 12 rounds 48:47–1:01:18
The full game: 12 secular 'heaven' song snippets are played and scored, one point each for title and artist with double points on the last round. Answers revealed on air include 'Knockin' on Heaven's Door' (Guns N' Roses), 'How Far Is Heaven' (Los Lonely Boys), 'Pennies from Heaven' (Louis Prima), 'Stairway to Heaven' (Led Zeppelin), 'Tears in Heaven' (Eric Clapton), 'Heaven Is a Place on Earth' (Belinda Carlisle), 'Imagine' (John Lennon), 'Never Been to Spain' (Elvis Presley), 'Lady Madonna' (The Beatles), and 'Grandma's Hands' (Bill Withers). A contestant scores 3 of 26 possible points.
  • Performance: 'Not What I Thought' 1:01:19–1:04:48
The Andersons' final song. Jessa explains it is about the things in life that hold us back from experiencing who God is: 'when you open your eyes to what God's doing, He just blows away every notion that you have of Him.' She then performs it live.
  • Second-hour comedy video: the 'Alan! Alan!' sketch 1:05:13–1:09:37
Bridging the 10-to-11 o'clock hours, the hosts play a British absurdist comedy sketch video: a giraffe in a bar, a dentist bit, a man who can't urinate with an audience, and a running 'Alan! Alan!' chant. The studio debates whether it is actually funny.
  • Video reactions, Anderson farewell, and score math 1:09:42–1:13:50
The hosts react to the comedy video ('better the second time'), praise the Andersons' talent against their own 'three amateur doofuses' platform, and do comedy math on the game score: 3 of 26 points, debated as 8.6-repeating versus 11.5 percent.
  • New Year, part 1: take up your cross, the chessboard, Stephen 1:13:52–1:28:22
The New Year discussion begins: what does God want from each person this year? The hosts argue for active participation in following Christ ('take up your cross and follow me') instead of waiting passively for an Isaiah-style throne-room moment. One host offers the 'spiritual chessboard' analogy, God moving people where He wants them, and the example of Stephen in Acts, whose one-step move cost his life but helped launch the church. Includes the 'be excited to be a pawn for Jesus' riff and a two-job-offers prayer example.
  • New Year, part 2: grounding, sign-seeking, and healers 1:28:22–1:38:10
The discussion continues: pastors who church-hop at the first friction, being grounded in biblical truth so chaos can't shake you, and the danger of sign-seeking, the spin-the-globe method, 'Isaiahing' in the prayer room, and poking a finger at a random Bible verse (landing on Numbers 23:1-2, then a scripture randomizer's Daniel 12:1 and 1 Chronicles 25:1). The hosts debate a radio testimony about a healing so a girl could play soccer, Benny Hinn's profit motive versus a poor healer like John of God, and whether believers can wrongfully attribute things to God.
  • Wrap-up: James series, toilet repair, and coming attractions 1:38:12–1:46:16
Closing housekeeping: thanks to the Andersons (jessaanderson.com, performance clips coming to YouTube), an upcoming sermon series on the book of James, a host's story about sticking his head in a leaking toilet tank to find the leak, and previews: John Acuff later in January, musician Zach Zabota on the 17th, Matt Cassidy next week, and the every-other-week 'non-biblical signs of the apocalypse' segment with listener submissions.
  • Study: even atheists report anger at God 1:46:16–1:58:53
The hosts discuss a Belief Blog article on a Journal of Personality and Social Psychology study: atheists and agnostics report more lifetime anger at God than believers do, especially the young. They read the dictionary definition of 'agnostic' aloud and debate whether being angry at a God you claim doesn't exist makes sense, then sign off for the week.

You're listening to Live from the Path on MoenAmplify.com. Thanks for being with us tonight. Mike, what have I told you about singing into it? You told me not to do it. And what have you done? I did it again. How embarrassing. I'm embarrassed. Yeah. Do you need to check the microphone for hairs? So two weeks straight, Mike has gone into broadcasting, and then we had to stop midway while he picks hair off the front of his microphone. Here's what I understand. Someone has some chin business, and it's doing something. I don't think that's a chin hair. You hope it's the chin. I think they're rubbing their forehead. They have forehead hair. They have the exact opposite problem with me. Ain't that amazing? How else do you rub that unibrow off? If that's how they're cleaning their unibrow, first of all, we need new mic screens. Second of all, I don't know. It's flaky. If it just rubs off, it's not holding on to the ear well enough. Yeah.

Okay. You're listening to Live from the Path on MoenAmplify.com. My name is Ben Foose. Thanks for being with us tonight. We have a fantastic show. I would say on a scale from one to five, if one is a courageous but obstinate cougar, and five is a suave and smooth-talking billy goat. We're probably the goat. I mean, it's a fantastic show tonight. I'm pretty excited. Okay. Should I leave? No, no. You're included. The goat covers all. Yes. So tonight we've got some cool stuff going on. We will be playing Name That Tune, Heaven Edition. And so just a reminder, we found some secular tunes that have the word heaven in it. We will give you the heaven portion of the song. You need to tell me the title and artist from just the heaven portion. And we will be getting to that here in the first hour. Also, probably in the second hour, we're going to get to be talking just a little bit about we're walking into a new year, and the question is, what does God want with me for this year? You know, this is a relevant question at all times, but I guess we spend more time thinking about things like this in the new year.

So we're going to talk a little bit about, you know, how to narrow down what might be out there for you, what type of opportunity for Christ is available, that kind of thing. So, cool. Cool. Very good. I'm in. All right. Also, in the studio with us, we are very pleased to have Jessa and Jordan Anderson. Thanks for coming in, everybody. Thank you for having us. You're very welcome. Jessa is a fantastic singer-songwriter, and Jordan as well. And they're here. They're going to play some songs for us. And don't do this now, okay? You need to hang around to the show now. But I would highly recommend going to the website, which is jessaanderson.com. It's also on the bottom of the screen when you're looking just at her, which I just put her on there. And you go check that out. There's a lot of cool stuff on the website, some song selections and stuff. Is there Facebook? Yes. Can we like it? You can like it. I hope you do like it, actually.

I've already done it. Me too. I do like it, yeah. I like it. Actually, I have a problem with that. As soon as I see anybody, my wife says, Nick, will you accept anybody? Like, anybody that asks for your friendship, will you agree to it? I have to have some connection in some way. I don't have to, like, be best friends, but I have to at least, okay, I know you through my second cousin, Earl. Like that guy that just knew you from 20 years ago that was just here. Exactly. And I can tell you exactly, I can tell you all about him. I'm going to tell you something happened this week. So, my dad dated a woman, like, I don't know, 10 years ago. I haven't seen her. And she Facebooked me this week. Oh, yeah, I got that. Did you get the same thing? I did, too. Okay, hold on. Hold on. Did you befriend her? I did not say yes. I did not either. I was waiting to see what you said.

No, my last memory of this woman was after my dad had, they had parted ways, and she showed up to my dad's house, like, two years after wearing a full-length Looney Tunes shirt, like a Tasmanian devil that goes down below. Yeah, shoulders to knees. It's probably a dress, right? It was Janet. Yeah. And I don't remember what she was doing at the door. It was freaking me out. People in full, like, Tasmanian devil shirts come to your house. It freaks me out. I think you can get those at Target. I'm fine tonight, but I'm glad I decided not to. Good decision. Well, at the last second, I was, oh, I better change. That would have been an interesting hour. Ben's over there twitching all the time. I mean, seriously. Boy, thanks for coming in, but I hate that, sir. Now, to chat, I didn't say no yet. It's a pending friendship. Yeah, it's pending. I'm acting like I don't Facebook often, and it'll come to a shock to me. I can't decide what to do. I don't know. Dan, what would you do in that situation?

Granted, it's a similar situation. We have no connection here. If you have zero connection whatsoever. I mean, I know the woman. That's about it. I'll usually say, okay, what's their motivation? Sometimes people will try to befriend me so they can stalk someone else who's my friend. It's happening. Honestly. Honestly. You're the middle man? I am. You're the Facebook middle man. And so I will not do that if I know that's, you know, like an ex-wife of so-and-so, and they would just see what they're up to. I was like, yeah, you don't need to use me for that. You put a lot of thought in your Facebook. I actually do. But if you have no connection at all, I probably just would ignore it and hope it goes away and then she'll either send it again. She asked a question with the invitation message. Like, hey, I'd like to be your friend. By the way, how's your dad doing? Do you like my shirt? No, she didn't say that part. Do you remember my Tasmanian?

So, Jessie, you have a fan page on Facebook, right? I do, yeah. So, are you allowed to kick people off of that? Like, let's say they like you. I don't believe so. Oh, man. If there is, I don't know how to do it. But I'm sure if it got unruly, I could report them in some way. That would be awesome if your Facebook page got unruly. It's pretty tame over at the Justin Anderson family. Hey, it happens. You can have, I wonder what stage you look at your Facebook and go, you know what, this is getting out of hand. No, no, but really, we're going to do a little interaction with the Atheist Convention coming up pretty soon. And I could see people in that group getting on. They go purposefully go to places like your group and try to, you know. Well, is it wrong to think, because the only thing I thought about this woman that used to date my dad is I thought, I don't know whether she knows Jesus or not. And I don't do a ton of Facebook posting, but a lot of it has to do with the show or like what's going on at church. And I thought, I mean, is it a bad thing if she's at least getting my posts coming across her wares? Well, is, okay, what's the current status of your dad married twice? Is he in a relationship? Yeah.

Yeah. I mean, so, you know, I would probably stay away. He's not on Facebook, though. Yeah. Yeah, but if she's trying to use you to get to him, I mean, that was the first question. Hey. Yeah, that's true. How's your dad doing? Yeah. That's true. She didn't say it all suave like you're saying it, though. Well, you got to read it right. I guess, chat, have you guys have any, have you ever had a run-in with weird stuff on the Facebook? Facebook is really complicated. Either like a stalker or, I don't know, just a weird character. Here's what I don't like about it is I'm socially awkward, like, in the flesh. I've never noticed. Like, now I have to be, like, four-dimensionally socially awkward. So, I was used to it in my everyday workings, and now I got to do it on the computer, too. I used to be anonymous. I'm much more socially awkward on Facebook. Yeah. I throw out bombs just to see if people react, and it's kind of fun. That's what you call them? I think I blocked you.

What would you call them? I'll be honest with you. I can't take any more. You blocked me. Mike's kind of like a one and done. You have one shot, and if you say something that he finds either offensive, ridiculous, or boring, you're out. He gets rid of them directly. That's true. I've befriended, like, I'd say I probably have a hundred, I don't know, a couple hundred friends, and I've blocked 175 of them. Like, I don't see what anybody's doing. It's a national unfriend day. I just, I didn't participate, but it's like on other people's things, it's like this national thing where they're saying, okay, I don't want you anymore. Get rid of all the people you really don't know. They go through their list, and they, like, take the time to unfriend people. I think that's awesome. Cut and shuffle. You know what? I can't deal with all you people at once. I don't even like you. Why do they friend you? Now, see, you don't have to include why I'm unfriending you. No. You know, I just have to say, look.

Well, you see the message then. It's like, if you can read this, you're one of the lucky few, you know, that stayed on my friends thing. I like that. A circle, I like to call it. You know. A Facebook circle. I've noticed you don't respond to anything I put out anymore. Yeah. You take something? It bounces back. Unknown. I wonder if Mike's all right. He doesn't seem to be responding to my email. Check out this animal video. This is the greatest thing ever. All right. So here's the deal. Probably to bridge the 10 o'clock to the 11 o'clock hour, I'm going to play this animal video, which Mike seems to find drop dead hilarious. It's better the second time. I watched it. And maybe I made the mistake of watching it like you're on your way to back in friendship on the Facebook. It's pretty awesome. It's not pretty awesome.

Yes. Anyway, so we'll let you watch that. We'll see what you have to say about it into the second hour. I'm interested to know the perspective, I guess, on this. I didn't think it was funny. I even knew the part that Mike thought was funny. Maybe that was worse because I saw it and I'm like, that's really not all that funny. I like the drafts the best, I think. Okay. Anyway, it's a teaser. You're going to have to watch it. It's classic. The gorilla, you know, kind of reminded me of Robert Tilton. Who's the preacher dude? That wins on the YouTube? Yeah. Yeah. Winding preacher. Google the farting preacher. It's hilarious. On a side note. This is why you got blocked from my Facebook. This kind of stuff right here. Christians with gas. Love Dan. Every three days is what he posted.

See, we're just like everyone else. I'm too much. I'm too filled with the spirit. All right. You've been listening live from the path on Des Moines Amplified.com. Jessa and Jordan Anderson are with us in the studio. So, normally I'd open with interest in your music, but is it okay for me to ask, how did you guys meet? Yes. On Facebook? I guess I have to tell the story. Yeah. Not through Facebook. Actually, Facebook. I feel old. Jordan's not quite sure how we met. It's like kids now at youth groups, you know, it's like to them, Facebook is just, everyone has Facebook, but it didn't come around until we were, you know, all the way into college and everything. But we actually met, I went to Cedarville University when I graduated high school and started traveling for their music teams, different schools, churches across the country. And we went all the way to California from Ohio and on our way back through, getting back to Ohio, we stopped in Altoona, which I know you guys are familiar with. And we needed a place to stay, Jordan's brother was on one of the teams, and so it was like, you know, we had a little connection. We weren't doing a concert, we just needed a night, a house to sleep in, and it happened

to be the Anderson household. And so, I met Jordan that night, and he was telling me about the school in Nashville that he was going to, and, you know, their program and everything, and it kind of perked my interest and also might have been a little interested in him as well. So, I'm like, okay, well, I need to get more. Jordan, you smoothie? More information, so, you know, we kind of kept in touch, and that was how we met. So, it was just one of those random things that God brought me right to the doorstep for. It was pretty easy for him, I think. It was like delivery, special delivery, here we are. So, we were married about 13 months later, so it was cool. So, how did the proposal go down? Even better. Oh, man. He is like a hard one to beat because his two sisters just got engaged. And so, they're like, you know, you can go ask Jordan for tips if you need help with notes. The idea is, he had my favorite song, which is I'll Be by Edwin McCain, arranged by one of the profs at Belmont. So, we had this string trio, right? Three of them. And he had some background singers. And there's this hill in Nashville, which we've heard is now obscured by someone's home, but you can see the whole city from there. You can burn.

Yeah. You can see the whole city. And so, we went out to dinner. We had sushi for the first time. And we both, it was bad. It was not our favorite dinner. But we got that over with. Jordan compared to Fear Factor. He's like, I feel like I'm just, but I'm still, I need to eat it. We paid for it. We're in college, you know. One more bite. We're just showing it. We don't have money to get anything else. Just crawling out of my mouth. So, we did that. Went to Starbucks. And then we go to this hill. And then the music starts. And we came up. There's this big circle of lights. And the background singers and the strings. And he serenaded me and asked me to marry him. So, of course, you know. Oh, man. Dang it.

I look like a bigger jerk every day. I know. I hate it. Why do you even ask those questions? My daughter has like 10 friends who got engaged over Christmas. And she told me all these great stories. And I'm like, okay. We've been married 25 years now. So, you know, it's worked out okay. But my proposal was, so I suppose we'll get married. Yeah, I suppose so. That was it. Yeah, my parents, I don't think. What a jerk. Had any crazy story either. And they just kind of. I think they bought the ring. And then my mom. They were like in Burger King or somewhere. And my mom's like, just give it to me. I can't. I don't want to. Just let me have it. Yeah, she's got it. I'm hungry. I'm tired of thinking about it.

Just give it to me. What did your dad put it? Somehow snuck it into an M&M bag, right? And like, you know. Boy, runs in the family. Yeah. Man, the Andersons are tough to beat. Man. Someone on the chat commented that you're like a living Velvet Elvis. So, you know. Oh. Take that how you wish. That sounds like a compliment handle. What does that mean? I mean, a physical living Velvet Elvis is kind of creepy. What he doesn't know is I wrote that. Just to inspire. Inspire a little action. Oh, man. No one's really. No one's saying no. He's certainly not a Velvet Elvis. So, I mean. I think that plays well. Congratulations. All right.

Well, if you guys want to go ahead. They're going to play a song for us. And this is. You can listen to this if you go to the website. It'll be better tonight. It'll be the same tonight. I don't want to make it sound like it stinks on the website. Because it's actually fantastic. But I don't want you to go right now. That's right. Well, the website will be there. Yeah. Experience raw emotion tonight. This is now. It's happening. And if everyone now goes, it will probably crash your site. I hope not. So, we don't want that to happen. We don't want to risk it. Calm it down. Calm it down. All right. Everybody just take it down a notch. Take it down. Tomorrow we'll stagger. All the A's go at 10 o'clock.

The B's go at 11. You can sign up. The order is, listen to this tune, unfriend me, and then go to the Justin Anderson website. Become a fan on Facebook. Watch the animal video. I like how this is going. Could you post the animal video on your Facebook page? I'll consider it. I've got to go watch that video again before I get myself into something here. You don't need to see it in its entirety. It's solid gold. Just trust Mike. Don't be bullied into this. This is peer pressure to its nth degree, and it's not necessary. I can't commit right now. I think that's a good move. I'll think about it. All right. So this is Everybody Has Those Days. Yes. And hold on. Jordan, you want to play real quick? Just make sure you hear yourself. You got yourself? All right. This is Jess Anderson.

Go ahead. I'm pissed, and no one really understands what's going on in my head. I'm feeling alone, and I'm feeling like sort of a mess. Can't make sense of anything. And so I'm telling myself over and over again, everybody has those days. Everybody has those days. Everybody has those days. But the beauty is often uncovered by facing the pain. And everybody has those days. Well, no one ever mistook me for beauty and grace. You know I'm really more the clumsy type, always making mistakes. The harder I try to be careful, the bigger the break. I can't do right for nothing. And so I'm telling myself over and over again, everybody has those days. Everybody has those days. Everybody has those days. But the beauty is often uncovered by facing the pain. And everybody has those. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh has those days. Well, everybody has, everybody has, everybody has those days. Everybody has, everybody has, everybody has, everybody has those days. But the beauty is often uncovered by face and the pain. And everybody has those days. Nice. That was awesome. Thank you. I was gonna say that was beautiful. Dang it. I don't pull it. It was all inspiring. Dang it. There was a tear. One single tear. That was, that was. It rolled down my cheek. That was catchy. I like it. It makes me want to bop like a, it makes me want to start carrying a purse. I don't know why. It just makes me feel like. Like a, like a European man bag. Legitimate purse. Yeah, like a man purse. Like a purse. All right. Like a girl. You can borrow mine. A sequined blue purse. I did not get that feeling at all. Oh. Tried out afterwards. Sequin blue. He just made me want to smile. Yeah. I didn't really. Well. Feel the need to like get a purse. We'll talk about it. May or may not be good. I don't know. I've made some bad choices in my life, you know. What, uh, so what, uh, that's your song, correct? What, what brought that song about? Um, well, basically I'm just really like having those days, you know, you always hear people saying like, I'm just having one of those days. And that usually means like you fell down the

stairs or you spilled something on your shirt or whatever, you know, it's like just something is happening. And those are like usually days that I'm having where it's like today I, we were playing a card game with Jordan's family and I hit my head on the wall. I'm like, ow. And someone says, well, I'm like, I hit my head on the wall again. And then I'm like, I just had to say again, like this just happened to me. Um, so, you know, I was like thinking about that and then I'm sorry, I don't mean to cut you off here, but what I'm not understanding the circumstances that caused you to hit your head on the wall from a card game. I was sitting closely to the wall, apparently too closely to the wall. And so, yeah, we're playing this game and I just, I whacked my head on the wall, but it had just happened to me. And so I'm like, how? Well, it sounds like your art's nemesis is the wall, the wall. If he tries to be your friend on Facebook, you have to say, whatever else, not this time. There's always those people that you see, you know, especially like you go to church or you're out shopping and these people just look so put together and you're like, man, like I bet nothing ever goes wrong for them. And then I'm thinking like, yeah, a lot of people think that about me and it's weird. Yeah, that is weird. I can see that. Very composed, you know. Just look at him. So, you know, it's just that thing of like, certainly those people must have these kind of days that I'm having. But Jordan just looks at me often and like, how? That's it. That's the sentence. How? I can't leave you alone for a second. Now that we have the baby, I have to be extremely careful. I'm like, okay, wrap her in bubble wrap. Wrap myself in bubble wrap. Keep the baby away from the wall.

Yes, exactly. I'm going to tell you something about walls, daughter. Here's the way they're going to work. You respect them. They'll respect you. Kind of story of my life. Mike, when was the last time you did something extremely clumsy? Oh, man. That's pretty much all the time. Sunday for me? Yeah. What did you do? Oh, I was getting ready to say, well, this was the first sermon I ever preached, right? I'm going to preach this Sunday. I get up there and I start. Oh, yeah, this was classic. The opening prayer and Slick Dan over here runs into the drum set. What? Now, now. Okay. It was the mic stand that was not, I moved it out of the way to help you out, to be your servant. And it did not sit firmly on the ground. It was not. Hey, don't take the Lord down with you. And the mic stand crashes under the cymbal during the prayer. And I quickly jumped up to make it look like it was me. Those mic stands will get you, though.

I've had some days. Yeah, one of those days. Exactly. Then I went and hit my head against the wall. Yes. Multiple times. Sorry, I interrupted you. Oh, you know what I've done recently. I did it on New Year's Eve. I sent a text message to my little brother. He got a job for the first time. He's holding it down. It's going well. And I sent him a text message at like, I don't know, midnight and said, Happy New Year's. Happy New Year's, boy. I'm proud of you. You know, I thought, well, that's a nice sentiment, you know. So I'm driving to church. We had a meeting for the radio or whatever. The next morning I'm driving and I get a text and it says, Who's this? I'm like, It's your brother, you clown. Now I'm upset. And he writes back and goes, I don't have a brother. I'm like, Oh, man. So I thought, well, then, this is rather awkward. I guess I'm proud of you, too, then.

And he writes back, Thanks, bud. Happy New Year's. I thought, well, I just made a new friend. Yeah, really. Did you add him on Facebook? You should. He didn't divulge his name. And plus he wrote cuz with a Z. Which I don't dig on. That's questionable. Yeah, that's not for me. It kind of seems like the Facebook lingo has infiltrated real life. Like, you know, emails, texting, all these things. Now it's just acceptable to replace letters. Yeah, and you know, the texting came in, like, after my growing up period. So I spell it all out. Like, it's just not my gig. You know, I punctuate. I capitalize. I recapitalize. Yeah, yeah. And then people send me, like, four letters and it equals a sentence. And I'm like, I don't know what happened here. I have no idea what just happened. And then I have to start guessing. And I always guess profanity.

Well, often it is. If they don't spell it out, I just assume it's profanity. You know, a couple times I would say something funny, and I often thought they were misattributing my joke to Elmau, and I was upset. I said, he's always taking my jokes. Follow it, Dan. Replay it. It's in there. It's not worth listening to you. That joke was smarter than it came out. I wasn't listening, to be honest. It's got the caliber of a YouTube animal video. I don't. It's not funny. The drafts are classic. It's not funny. We'll see. I love it. So what brings you guys to Iowa? We are here performing. We actually spent New Year's Eve with some teenagers, with the black lights. On purpose? On purpose, yes, actually. It was quite the experience for us, because now that we're parents, you know, like, this is date night for us, because the baby's not here. So we're like, what?

A lot of people come here for date nights, to be honest. By the films, yes, but not the child. It's a self-esteem booster. You're like, boy, at least I got it better than these films. Look at this calliope in here. So we had, you know, we had the baby with us. It wasn't quite date night, but we had the black lights going on. She had her white sweater on, so it was a little crazy. Oh, that's funky. So we played some tunes and hung out with the teens, and then, you know, got home in time to kiss each other for a night. You ever go to that black night, or that bowling that they have with the black lights? I don't know that we have done that. And then you realize you have a stain on your pants that you thought the washer took care of? No. Or fuzz. I'll put a shit that's never happened to me. I was eating a hot dog or whatever, and I had mustard on my pants, you know? And so whenever they went through the wash, I thought nothing of it. I thought clean is good as new, you know? And so we're going bowling, like, the next week, and I'm like, oh, man, that is giant. That is a giant mustard stain. This is quite embarrassing. Anyway, I'm telling you, if you're going to go bowling, just wear brand new clothes. Just be ready for it.

Yeah. Yeah, if they're new and you've got stains, you've got to be concerned. Yeah, then you've got to wonder, I've got to watch what the JCPenney's up to. I used to love going skating, roller skating as a kid, and they had the black light, you know, time. And you go, oh, yeah, man, you really thought you were pretty big time. Like, oh, I'm looking cool. This is the stuff. Did you? I planned this. I have big time. Dan, did you own your own pair of roller skates? Or did you have to rent? I rented. Yeah. Chat, did anybody own their own roller wheeled skates? Allison, you? I think I had roller blades at one point, but not the skates. No, that's enough. I had ice skates. We got at a garage sale that I used once. I haven't for years. Did you sew your name into them? They say the Dan on the side? I should have. A little lightning bolt.

Cool Dan. Big time. Don't mess with the Dan. So let me ask you a question. With the, I don't know, with the songs that you write and with the perspective that you're writing from, with kind of the genre that you kind of tip in and out of, you know, do you find it hard to find inspiration to write more songs? You know what I'm saying? Like, like it's some, sometimes it seems like, uh, especially when it comes to, uh, music that refers to, you know, Christ at all, you know, that, that sometimes Christ just gets slapped into the tune and then it goes, you know, um, do you find it, do you find it difficult to sit down and write a song, you know, with, with what you want to say? I think both of us make a conscious effort not to just write, you know, and then kind of stick God in there. Like, Oh, we need a song about God. So let's just throw God in there. Um, but it's, there's always a process for me of like, we, we both write and we sometimes write together, which is another story. Not, not very often. That doesn't always go very well, but you know, we'll be writing together. We'll be working on stuff. Or I'll be writing. I can pass it over. So does he, I'll pass it over to him. Um, but then you record the songs and there's always this brief period of like, freak out. Like I've written all the, like I've worked so hard.

I've written these songs and recorded them. And then there's this mental block of like, there are no more songs, you know, I've just exhausted all my creative energy. And then you, you know, you live with the new songs for a while and then they get to be old songs. And then you're like, okay, I'm ready to write some new songs. Yeah. So, um, I think it's just one of those things where it's hard when we're traveling, but at the same time, it's, it's so refreshing for us to just sit down and like take a break from all the songs that we've been playing and then have something new. It's like, oh, okay. There's something left in there. Yeah. I can see that. Is it, do you travel in a, in a large vehicle? We do not travel in a large vehicle. We have a Honda CRV. One time we said that and someone was like, oh, an RV. I'm like, no, no, no. A CRV. Not nearly as roomy as an RV. Yeah. Yes. And so when it was the two of us, we had plenty of space and then we added the baby and you know, babies come with a lot of stuff. I'm like thinking you weighed, you know, she was seven pounds and some change when she was

born. And then all this extra stuff. I'm like thinking how does this tiny person have? Seven pounds of baby, 50 pounds of stuff. Right. And so now the CRV is a little tighter. Yeah. I can see that. But it's, you know, we're making, we're making it work. So you can't like haul down the road playing the guitar, having, having discussions on the tune. That's out. Yeah. I mean. You should take up the harmonica. We can do that. We have a keyboard that we sometimes travel with and that's really the problem. It's our, it's kind of our arch nemesis, but. I see. We have to bring it sometimes, so. I feel your plight. Do you both, do you both primarily write on guitar or piano or. I play the keys. So I have a keyboard that we have set up at home normally unless we have to stuff it into the giant case. What kind of keyboard is it?

It's a Roland Phantom FX. Yeah. Is that right? Yeah. Is that what you got? No. Oh. No. Jordan plays guitar and so he spends most of his time there. He's a little more multi-talented. He can switch over to the keyboard whereas I can pick up the guitar but. It would quickly send people in the other direction. I do that with instruments. I pick them up and then I have someone take a picture of me and then I put them back down again. Put them on Facebook. Basically. Look, I play the didgeridoo. Dig it. Here's me and the tuba. I had to give it back. I don't know if I'd want to, unless you don't have to put your mouth on it, but you don't want to be posing with someone else's tuba, you know? No. No. You know, it's, I would say it's 90-10 on the amount, on how many tuba dudes you want

to stay away from. They're a pretty solid element of tuba guys where you're like, I'm not putting my mouth anywhere near. I did 10%. You might, yeah, I might do that. Yeah, he looks all right. Yeah, but it's a strong 90 where I'd say, no, I don't, we're not sharing tuba. Yeah, if you see a tuba guy with a big pack of gum next to him, you think, yeah, okay, we should be all right here. Although, you know, the tuba guy that prepares for someone else to use his tuba is creepy. Hmm. That's a creepy thing. It's like, hey, what if someone else wants to put their mouth on my tuba? I better be prepared. Maybe he's socially awkward. Do not friend that guy on Facebook. I think I'd want to see more than gum, I'd want to see like a portable toothbrush with that tuba guy before I'm going to share the tuba. Maybe some antibacterial stuff. Yeah. Yeah. Well, now, he seems kind of uptight for me now. I got my wipes. I don't want to be hanging around some kind of loose-lipped ninny tuba man. Yeah. Hold on a second.

Hold on a second. Let me screw up. Let me get my spray. Don't honk on it. Don't honk on a tuba. So, what was the moment that you kind of decided that maybe I'm not going to be the secretary at that place down the road, but maybe I'll pursue this music thing? I mean, was there some moment that you thought, this might do something? Yeah. But, you know, everyone grows up thinking, okay, I just wanted to be a singer. I loved to sing. And, you know, at the time, songwriting wasn't part of the equation. And then you get older and you think, okay, I should focus on a career. And most people would tell you that music is not a career. And so, we definitely had this point where we were working on recording and I decided I was going to record my first CD. So, I had 11 songs and Jordan ended up recording some of his during that time as well. But even still, people would say, well, what are you going to do with it? I'm like, I don't really know. You know, we're just kind of figuring it out. And then Jordan, one night, was thinking to himself and explained to me the next morning, he just had this thought, like, first of all, now is the time. We were young, no kids or anything. And it was like, what do we believe in more than this? You know, if we can be as passionate as we are about this, why would we try and settle for something less?

And so, we kind of just made that choice to say, like, okay, we're going to pack everything we own and we're going to, like, hit the road and mass evil, like, we have a CD now. And if you want to have us come play, then that would be great. Distribution is the issue. Yep. I mean, that's… Yeah. And so, it was kind of one of those things where we were like, okay, maybe two months from now, we'll run out of options and then we'll be like, no, what do we do? Yeah. Write it until it fails. That's the way it is. Yeah. When we're on the street with a tin can and a cardboard sign, we'll know we made a mistake. There's a few people in Nashville like that. You know, you can go down Broadway and it's like, a couple guitar strings are missing, maybe a couple teeth and you're like, how long has that guy been here? There's my future. But we just thought, this is the call that God is putting on our heart in terms of, like, what we're passionate about and why not try and make it work. And so, we did hit a point where we had to decide. You have to decide, yeah. We can either quit and say we had some fun in the last few months or we can really push ahead. And so, then you develop a game plan. Like, okay, we should probably think through this a little more and maybe, you know, make an effort

of long-term and luckily, it's been working out. That's awesome. I've been talking with my daughter quite a bit lately because she's at that point where she loves music. She's been a singer her whole life. She has, she's good. She's a good vocalist and unique voice. The whole, you know, has a lot of things going for her and I've always been the guy saying, well, yeah, that's really cool. That's really great. You know, maybe you ought to have some income too. You know, that's the dad thing. And so, she's like been working on education because she's doing all the music stuff too at the same time. Has her mind around music, blah, blah, blah. So, but she's at that point now, she doesn't have much time left in college. You know, it's just like, well, what, what do I do? She does the traveling groups. She, you know, she's had like, uh, recording guys listen to him saying, man, she has it like in the background, she found out latest. She has something going, you know, like, and you know, I don't know. I don't know what to tell her as a dad. I'm like, you know, on one hand, you're young, follow your dreams. On the other hand, boy, you got a lot of school loans going to be coming due like in about six months, a year and a half. You know, so.

Did you co-sign those loans? Well, I've got plenty of myself too. Oh, I was going to say. In spite of her. I could give her some advice that is probably a little less biased than your advice. If you co-sign those loans. I have the bulk of them. Let's just say I could buy a nice house. Okay. And, um, she could buy a nice car, you know, but still they'll be due. I mean, hers will. I'm already paying mine. Um, let's change the topic. Can we counsel you? But I mean, I don't want to be the guy who crushes her dreams and, and especially forget the dreams. If God's telling her one thing, I don't want to tell it the other. Yeah. You know? And, um, I don't know. I just threw that out there. Just what would you say to her? You don't even know her. We tell, I mean, we have people that will ask us about it because we've been doing it full time for about two and a half years. And so my advice is always just like, if you're going to do it, you got to be committed.

You have to, and we did, we dropped everything else. And, um, I would actually, we were at a point where I wasn't working because I was working on the CD. And so Jordan was bringing in, um, enough income to support us both. And we had a great community around us. And so it was hard to leave because we had a lot of people. We were in, in Charlotte at the time, which is like banking, very corporate. And to them, like creative fields are like starving artists, you know, and people come up to you like, but what is your real job? I'm like, I don't know what else to tell you. Um, but so, you know, we just, our advice is like, if this is what you're going to do, then you have to be prepared to do that and not just kind of in the back of your mind, you're kind of doing it. It's not the, it's not the, the, the, the fantasized version of, of some kind of rock star lifestyle where songs just hit you, you know? Right. I'll play in my bedroom and see if this works out. Right. You don't have to, you don't have to practice or show up really. You just kind of saunter on stage. Everyone loves you. You get a million dollars. They'll discover me. Yeah. And I think, you know, you hear so many people that just are saying like, I'm going to wait for someone else to sign me to a label or to manage me and then I'll be able to do

what we're doing. And it's like, if you're already doing it yourself, you know, those people can be assets, but you got to, you got to put the work in yourself. Yeah. And so we've tried, our philosophy is like, if we're not losing money on the deal, then let's go ahead. And do it. So we've kind of, you know, had some funny stories along the way. We've played to one, maybe two people, coffee shops, that kind of thing. And, you know, you always have those nights where it's like, whoa, is this really what we do for a living? Because that was pretty bad. But, you know, there are many rewarding moments as well. Hey, that means we're three. We're better than the worst gig already. That's true. Simply by having a lot of dudes on here. We went to, the three of us went to an event a while back where there was some pretty good name bands there and a pretty, pretty neat venue, pretty well-known venue. And we thought, myself went in thinking, well, this could be really cool. And then we got there and it's like, there's like maybe seven people in the audience, you know, the other bands and stuff. And I thought, man, that'd be kind of a little bit depressing. But what was so cool, I thought, was they played like there was 40,000 people there. Yeah, they rocked it. I was so impressed with them.

And that's what, you know, you get word of mouth and next time they'd have more people. Yeah, you know what? I think that that separates the people that do it because they do it, you know? And people that do it because they want it to become something. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. Like the people that can show up and it doesn't matter how many people are there and you're still rocking it from the heart. That says a lot about you because. Yeah. Are you doing it for those seven or are you doing it for God? Right. You know, that makes a difference too. Well, if your goal is to glorify God, you know, it doesn't make one person less valuable because you can maybe impact them in some way. And so. Yeah. It's easier to weep in front of one person in case a weeping is a, it comes a knocking. Speaking of weeping. Where is the sentence going? Oh, this is going to be good. So the next song that they're going to perform here is called Not Myself Anymore. There we go. And this is not guaranteed weeping. But it is ballady. Depends like what side of the situation you're on because we always tell people if we're

performing live, you know, we'll intro the songs and it's like, okay, it's kind of one of those breakup songs. And I'm like, if you just got broken up with, you know, it's that commiseration. Like, I feel your pain. But if you just broke up with someone, you're going to feel real bad about yourself. So it depends. You know, you might be. One of those days. Weeping for one reason or the other. Yeah. And then I'll send you to the next song. It's a life roller coaster. Just people being people. Exactly. Yeah. So it's just one of those kind of, you know, broken heart songs. Everyone's got them. Okay. So we can have a close up and a bin on this song. Yeah. I'm going to be prepared for it. If I start to tear up a little bit like the Indian from that one little thing, I'm going to get right up in it and I'm going to switch to it and I'm going to turn you guys way down and I'm going to slowly weep into the camera. That sounds like a point. But before we get to that point, we will listen to Not Myself Anymore with Jessa and

Jared Anderson, or Jordan Anderson. Sorry. You gotta love it for what it is. Take a minute to look around and you'll find out it's over now. There's no reason for acting like this. I knew it was coming. You've had it written all over your face for a long while. So let's split it right down the middle and just walk away. There's no use in trying to save something. You're just gonna have to change. But I can't seem to figure out myself anymore. When I cry outside, you're unaccountably gone. You've got no explanation for leaving me alone. Maybe we shouldn't have let it go on for so long. Cause I am just not myself anymore. Going forward but looking back. I cannot remember just how it got started. I know it's just part of the way this goes. But sooner or later you'll ask. Was all of this really a mandatory separation? Or was it just easy? So let's have a last conversation and just drive away. There's no use in trying to save something. You're just gonna have to change. But I can't seem to figure out why. I'm not myself anymore.

And I cry. And you, you're unaccountably gone. You've got no explanation for leaving me alone. Oh, well maybe we shouldn't have let it go on for so long. Cause I am just not myself anymore. No, I am just not myself. And putting all these memories away is getting hotter than I thought. So why can't we just be friends when that's all we were before? I can't seem to figure out why. I'm not myself anymore. I cry. Unaccountably gone. No explanation for leaving me alone. Oh, well maybe we shouldn't have let it go on for so long. Cause I am just not myself anymore. See, I am just not myself anymore. No, I am just not myself anymore. Were there tears? I didn't weep. It was enjoyable. Dan, we're through. You understand? This relationship is over. Mike, how could you do that to me? The song said it all. How can we do this anymore?

Redo the tape. Man, I hope that's never used as like a… Oh, by the way, I got you this song. Yeah, I don't need to say anything. I was surfing the web and Jessa told me that you're junk. Okay, this is a mistake. So that song, Everybody Has Those Days From Earlier and Not Myself Anymore, are those available on CD somewhere? Not at the moment. We have had some exciting things happen. We had released a CD and then over the last year got a relationship going with BEC, which is labeled out in Seattle. And so they are re-releasing the CD. So we don't have an official date on that because it's all extremely new. So we're excited. We're just kind of figuring everything out. They're going to remix everything and all that stuff? You re-record it? It'll be kind of the same. No, we don't have to re-record, which is a huge blessing, I think, for both ends. It's like, you know, the work is done. But they'll probably repackage it and, you know, spruce it up in that way. And then, you know, we'll have kind of that partnership there. Can we have a signed copy? You can say no. Yeah.

I mean, we don't have them now. Yes is better. But in advance, we can say yes. So we'll just have to keep track, you know. We'll send you a song saying we don't really like you anymore. Sorry, Mike. Yeah, if all you get is that on a CD. But, yeah, so on the website. I appreciate honesty. If that's how it comes out, I totally agree. Yeah, right. If the new single is Live from the Path really rubbed me the wrong way. I mean, it's illiterative. It's catchy. What is it? How do you write that down? L-F-T-P. Yeah. Because we're doing the abbreviations now. We'll have to get in with the younger generation. And then we'll sit there and stare at it and go, I know someone sent me that the other day. And I'm like, what is? Oh, Live from the Path. That's good. The only way right now that you can get those songs is if you come see me live.

So that's like a little. Where are you available live? Are you here in town? We will be, well, we'll be at Grace Church this Sunday morning, which, you know, is not quite a show, a concert. But if you happen to be in the area or you go to Grace, we'll be there on Sunday. And then you can always check jessanderson.com because it'll just, we have an updated list of tour dates. And as soon as we book it, it goes on there. Cool. Very good. That's awesome. I really like it. So sometime when you're back, we'll have to get some venue and have you guys. We don't have a church building. We meet in a school. We have. Why do you always have to tell people that, like, we're homeless? Well, because we are. It's like, otherwise we'd say, oh, hey, how about tomorrow? But it's like, well. It's like meeting somebody and then going, yeah, by the way, there's the only clothes I have. Yeah. I've got to ask my mom before I ask her. I live in a one-bedroom apartment, just in case you were wondering. Speaking of which, we are all, Jessa and Jordan aside, we are from Pathway Church in Johnston.

We meet at Wallace Elementary. We have services at 9 a.m. and 1030. And so if you're looking for a church family, please come out. More importantly, if you're looking for a relationship with Jesus Christ, we'd love to be able to help you out and kind of get you plugged into some folks and some relationships there that can get you going in the right direction. So that's Pathway Church. You can find the church online at thepathonline.org. All right. I think we have time for this. So we're, oh, man. Hold on. I got a, I had an intro. Oh, hold on. I got to see it. Just a minute. Is it visual as well? Yeah. Okay. Dig it. We're going to play, we're going to play. Yeah, there it is. This is smooth. This is not worth looking at. It's similar to your animal video. That poor animal video. Okay.

We're on board for Name That Tune, Heaven Edition. Can I guess that you've cut this yourself? Looks like Soul Train. So the people in the studio can't see it. I got a couple guys with angel's wings dancing around. That's all it is. I told you what it was. Or the love boat. Is that, is that, what is it, RJD2? I like Life in the Path on the stage here. That was pretty cool. Hey, I spent a good 17 minutes on that. Yeah, I bet you did. That smelled like something you cut. That's Mike and Ben dancing in the background. All right. All right, Dan. I didn't do that. Dan, you didn't have to do that. Yet. By the way, Jordan, I will tell you that I've said your name wrong seven times this week. In emails to people I've talked to, I keep calling, I do not know anybody named Jared Anderson, but I must have said Jared Anderson. It happens all the time. Is it, with Jared? I don't understand.

With Jared or Jason? I don't understand it. Actually, one time we walked in and there was a poster. It was, it was like life-size. Like, it was hanging from a ceiling in a university and it said, Jared, Jason, I'm like, oh no. Did it have your face on it? Yeah. Oh yeah, we were there. So then they, you know, they print off this little Jordan and tack it on over the, I'm like, how does it happen? Did they give it to you? That would have been classic. Then you could sign that and sell it on eBay. It'd be worth millions in about five years. And I get Jenna a lot. It's like, you know, it's just, I don't know. If it says J names, they're very popular, so there's. I've got a lot of names too, but usually they're not that nice. Ain't that strange? That's weird. I don't get that. Maybe I suggest a tape delay for Dan. All right. You. We've got to get this rolling. All right.

So remember the rules. This is Name That Tune Heaven Edition. Chat, you play along as well. So I'm going to play you a snippet of a secular tune that has the word heaven in it. I need title and artist of that tune. How many will we have? There's a total of 12. Whew. Oh, wow. 7, 8, 9, 10. Wait, I'm missing 11. I don't have another. Where's the 11? Oh, there it is. Okay. Yeah. I got 12. Okay. Okay. Ready? I'm ready. I'm going to win this. All right. I'm ready. Yeah. By the way, Dan is the best at this game.

He's fantastic. Here we go. Number one. Here he is. Here again. Number one. Okay. I'll give it to you one more time. Chat. Don't put it in the chat window. You got to log it at home. Here we go. Oh, feel it. It's a big rocker now. Come on. All right. That was number one. Okay. Number two. Title and artist. Number two. Title and artist. Here we go. Oh, I'm awesome at this. Okay. One more time.

You're skunking it, Dan. It's all up here. I'll write it down at the end. Stacey, do not put it in the chat. Okay. I'm kind of half cheating, but Jordan has written down the word heaven for number two. I'm pretty sure he's got heaven. That's pretty shrewd. That's a shrewd move. All right. Here we go. Number three. All right. Number three. Title and artist. Ribbon. Oh, I know that one. Ribbon. I don't know if I know the artist. This is not an easy game. It seems easier than it's going to be. All right. Here. Number three. Title and artist. Ribbon.

Will you accept multiple artists for that one? I'm really out. No. Okay. Hold on. I think I know that one, too. Actually, there's some towards the end. These get a little bit easier. All right. Number four. Oh, I know that one, but I can't tell you. Sounds like one. My husband would know. Hey. No cheating. Hey. Can I just write down what he writes? Jess, no cheating. Okay. Question mark. Question mark. Question mark. Those are my answers. Mike. You're going to have to keep an eye on Jess. What is the deal?

This side of the table is nothing but integrity. I don't know. Okay. Here we go. Ready? I thought that title. Uh-oh. There it is. The man's got it. Exactly. Jordan smells it a mile away. All right. Here we go. Number five. I can sing it. That's the problem. I can like hum, you know, the. Okay. One more time. Number five. Here we go. It's, seriously, we did this with Jesus, whatever, a month and a half ago, and it's difficult. It's not a very easy game. It sounds like it's going to be easier than it is. Here we go.

No. He won. It was weird. It was our highest rated show. He goes, oh yeah, I wrote that tune. Here we go. Number six. I know that one. Here we go. Number six. It's an 80s favorite. I don't know the artist. I'm taking a guess. I'm like totally guessing on all these. Okay. Here's the thing that we can do as songwriters. Like, I'll use the titles. They'll be wrong. So I'm like, oh, but that sounds like it could be a song title. So then I can write that song, you know? Very inspirational. Here we go. Number seven. Number seven. Okay. I got that one.

No clue. I got nothing. Hold on. See, I can't. Sorry. I can't watch the chat. What's going on? Yeah, yeah. No, I know it's tough. This one is wrong. Yeah, we'll grade it on a curve. Here we go. And that one I think is wrong, too. Here we go. Number eight. Oh, yeah. Like, that was right before he died. Damn. What? That's not too much of a clue. Okay. Because people die. I think I might actually know that one. Everybody dies. Okay, Jess has scribbled something incoherently. I'm writing so messy, so, like, you know, he can't, like, look and see how wrong I am.

Yeah, Charles Bronson, sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah. All right, here we go. Doogie Gills. Number nine. No. This one's kind of a rocker. It's a 90s rocker. They didn't write music in the 90s. Okay, do it one more time. The 90s never happened. Mike, you don't know that one? No, do it one more time. That's a Jackson 5. Oh, boy, that, I have no idea. Okay. All right, here we go. Number 10. Ooh, I know that one. Ready to go, number 10. I would say, I'll take, there's two different artists I'll take on this one. The performing artist and the original artist. I'll take either one. One more time. Number 10. You want a hint, Daniel?

We talked about his drummer a while ago. Yeah, four months ago, we talked about his drummer. He was a wild man. Yeah. Okay. I don't remember who it was. Here we go, number 11. Oh, okay. Okay. I got that one. Okay. They're very hard. And last one, and I'll give bonus points on this one. Okay, there's two points. Two for the title, two for the artist. I know the artist. I know the artist. I don't know the song. Surely there's some second chapter of Acts in there. Okay. All right. Okay, let's do this thing. Here we go. Let me, okay. I tell you what, I will give you a little bit more of the song. We'll see if you can come up with it.

For 12? No. Oh. No. All right. So, starting on number one, the original, there we go. The original cut was, okay, chat. Chat, what do you think? Anybody have any guesses? I don't know how far behind the chat is. All right. So, here's, it's really noticeable. Can I guess? Yeah. I'm guessing it's Knocking on Heaven's Door by Guns N' Roses. It's Knocking on Heaven's Door by Guns N' Roses. Yep. Yep. I think I can honestly say I've never listened to their music ever. Well, I would have accepted Bob Dylan. Okay. All right. You're out. I haven't listened to this stuff either. Here we go. Number two.

Number two. If it's not on Rush Limbaugh, I don't get it. Okay. Yep. That's the tune. I know that part, but that's all I got. Can that be the title and the artist? So, Heaven was the name of the tune. Oh, okay. Okay. All right, Jordan. Apologies. Artist? Anybody? Lost Lonely Boys? It's the Lost Lonely Boys. How Far Is Heaven. Yeah. How Far Is Heaven. That wasn't the whole title. I took Heaven. The playlist.com has it as Heaven, so I'm going to take Heaven. Well, that's not fair. I could call every song I have in my library Heaven. Full point. I don't take it.

All right. Here we go. Next tune. I'll just start you off with a whole one. Number three. Ribbon. Ribbon. Rain to rain. Panties from heaven. Shoopy to me. Oh, no. I had the wrong one. Is pennies from heaven Mike Artist? I had Louis Prima. It is Louis Prima. But I had dancing cheek to cheek. That's incorrect. Heaven. I'm in heaven. I can barely speak. Nope. Nope. You're out. All right. Here we go. We didn't sing that in Sunday school.

I don't remember. I lost a point. Number four. Jordan gave us a lick of it earlier. He did. Jordan. It is Stairway to Heaven. Artist is Led Zeppelin. Oh. Oh. I had Led Zeppelin. However. You got the proper artist for number five, which is Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton. Nothing on this one, Dan? Dan, you didn't get that one? All I've got was Stairway to Heaven. If I saw you in Heaven, and then I wrote Brian Adams, question mark? No. And then I saw Jordan Zalayo. Look for number nine. She has, this game is stupid. Ben. Here we go. Real quick. Number six. Mike, an idea?

I'd had Heaven as a Place on Earth by the Bengals. It's not the Bengals. It's Belinda Carlisle. I was raised by television, Dan. I know all these. Okay. Here we go. I spent my time praying. All right. Here we go. Number seven. Thoughts? I had Rock and Roll Heaven. Yep. By Dobie Gray. It's not Dobie Gray. It's hard to get a boat. I mean, I can't really believe it. Dan, you've not heard of it before? It's got vulgarity in it. That's why I didn't listen. All right. Here we go. That one's not on there. Okay. Number.

Nope. That's not it. Here we go. Number eight. That was Sinner Man. Yeah. Number eight was Dan. Imagine. Bye. John Lennon. Very good. Oh, I put all the people. Is that part of the song? Yeah. I don't imagine all the people. Oh, I thought you were using that for the artist. It's imagined by all the people. I put John Lennon. I got that part. Only reason I remember this is I remember thinking, well, I guess your imagination's not working so well now, is it? I'm not very good at all. It's painful for the artist, really. How's that imagination for you, Johnny? Here we go. Number nine.

That one's a tough one. I know it. See if I can get you in the middle and talk a little bit. Let's see if I can get you to the chorus just a second. Nope. Nothing, Dan? Okay. It's Heaven Beside You by the Alice in Chains. Nope. Dan's out. No clue at all. None. You know that one, Mike? Yes. What is it? It's Never Been to Spain by Elvis. It's Never Been to Spain. I love that song. I was trolling Elvis YouTube clips this week. It's awesome. You remember that? You remember his drummer? I'm pretty sure I've never done that. I'm afraid I'm going to have to get this. Yeah, we have. Remember we looked at his drummer playing C.C. Ryder?

Yeah. He was a crazy man. That was a good one. Yeah. Never been to… And so I also would have taken Three Dog Night, who was the original artist. Number 11, real quick. I know this one. Dan? Nothing. You guys have this? We both have nothing written on our… Okay. It's Lady Madonna by the Beatles. You don't have the whole clip? It's before my time. It's before your time. It's right at your time. It was way before my time. Beatles? No, it's not. No. I don't have… It's early 70s? It was before my time. All right, here we go.

And last one, Mike. I got Bill Withers for the artist. It is Bill Withers. See, this one was bonus points. Two for the artist, two for the… It's also the start of No Diggity. If you recognize it. It's the start of No Diggity. It's Grandma's hand. This is a tune. All right, that's it. Tally him up. Hold on. That's a tough round. It's a bloodbath today. It's a two points per, except for number 12 is two per. I mean, yeah. Yeah, two per… Yeah, one for the title, one for the artist. I think I got one. Are you serious? Did I beat you? I got John Lennon. That was the only… I had a few like I recognized them, but I did not get them correct. Hey, man.

Someone has written repeatedly, Mike Foost, you are the worst. I've got three. Somebody said I got two. I got three. Who did that? I'm not allowed to say. I had Sturber the Heaven, two, John Lennon, and Imagine. These are low scores. Twos, twos, five, seven question marks, six question marks. Did you get six or seven? I hit my head on the wall. I'm not sure. Two. What a day. One, one, one, one, one, one. Yeah. I had 18. That's wrong for you. Oh, that's toughy. That's toughy. All right. Well, there it was. Name that two in Heaven Edition. A tough one. That was very cool. A tough round of Heaven Edition.

Out of 22, out of 26 points, possible? Yes. Right? Yeah. I got three. What percentage is that? We only had a mathematician online. Hold on. I'll do the quick numbers crunching. No, I don't want to. I got it wrong. Come on. You love this game? Well, good. At least you like it. Everybody's having a good time. Two and a half. Two and a half. Two and a half. Bummer. All right. Well, thanks for playing. Thank you to Jess and Jordan for being in. You guys, can you hang out for just one more tune? Yeah. Cool.

This one is not what I thought. Is this also on the upcoming CD? It is, yes. And it's kind of just a song about the things in life that hold us back from experiencing who God is. I think it's so easy to put God in this box, especially if you've heard about Him all your life, which I pretty much have. And, you know, you just have this mindset of, here's God, you know, and I'm going to deal with my problems over here. And so writing this song, it was just like, man, when you open your eyes to what God's doing, He just blows away every notion that you have of Him, you know? So it's kind of just a little cryptic maybe, but… I dig it. This is no ordinary rational feeling. I am overtaken by a panic and run. I have fallen by the wayside many times before, and I have learned to use this love as a weapon. And I am caught up by the common as usual. I have nearly followed till my spirit was numb. I continually ascend to a never-ending, collecting all the things that matter the most. And you're not what I thought when I saw you. I have been running for so long and so far. I haven't got what I thought I would find to fill the empty up. But you're not what I thought. No, you're not what I thought. There is a manor I have quietly tucked away. Yet it is fighting for a place at the top.

I am dying to believe I'm big enough to try. But it's a battle I am losing alone. And you're not what I felt when I saw you. I have been running for so long and so far. I haven't got what I thought I would find. I have been running for so long and so far. And for so long, but now I've got something else, something more that I know you're not without. Night time. Day time! Night time. Day time! What are you doing? Having a game in night time. Day time! You wanna play? I don't know why, but I don't seem to have a lot of luck with women. I mean, I'm kind, I'm caring, I'm… No, it's a mystery, that. Alan! Alan! Al! Alan! She's all neck and legs, look at her. Oh, I am looking at her. Stop looking at her! You just told me to look at her! Ow! Ow! I was trying to be throat, that. John, I don't think we're allowed to wee here. It's fine, just keep a lookout. What was that? That was me zip. Whoa! Where did all these come from? You know me, lads, I can't wee with an audience. Alan! Alan! Alan! Alan! Alan! I'm Wolverine! I'm Sabretooth!

Wolverine! Sabretooth! Wolverine! Sabretooth! Wolverine! Sabretooth! You can't get me, I'm Wolverine! I'm Sabretooth! Pack it in, you know I'm working nights. Cheer up, Trev. I'm alright, Bernie. Here, gag for you. This fella and a giraffe walk into a bar. Giraffe goes to sleep on the floor. Farmer says, oi, what's that lion there? The fella says, it's not lion, it's a giraffe. You'd just like to open wide, sir. Are you going anywhere nice on your holidays? Yeah, yeah. Don't try and talk when my hands are in your mouth, sir. My wife and I are thinking of going abroad this year. Dudley, she's got family in the zoo over there. You got kids? Yeah, but… Please don't talk when my hands are in your mouth, sir. Oh, hello. Do the fill-in here, actually, at the back.

Is it mainly bananas you eat? Bananas, yeah. I won't tell you again, sir. Please don't try and speak when I'm working inside your mouth. Right, I'm trying to have a cheeky little taste. That's not bad, actually. You know what's done? Just need to smell your breath. Oh, God, that is rank. I think I need to lie down. Oh, God. Alan! Excuse me, mate. I think you're in my stand. Can't you just stand somewhere else, mate? No, look, I've reserved this space here. Could you move? No, I'm not moving. You move. Are you going to move or not? No. Right, that's it. Whoa, get off! Just move, will you? You move. No, just move!

You move. Move! You move! Move! You move! Move! You move! Move! Move! Move! Move! Move! Move! Move! Move! Get it! Sid. Who's that? This is your conscience, Sid. What? You've been a very naughty boy, Sid. I ain't. Leaving them banana skins on the floor so people slipped on them. No, I didn't. The bin bag, it ripped. Bin bags?

To dispose of biodegradable banana skins? You must be punished. Gets him every time. Alan! Alan! Alan! Alan! Alan! Alan! Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep, yep, yep, yep, rabbit, bunny, jabba, rabbit, yep, rabbit, bunny, jabba, rabbit, rabbit, rabbit, rabbit, rabbit, rabbit, yep, rabbit, bunny, bunny, jabba, rabbit. Shouldn't have had that 12 coffee. I can't even blink anymore, and I can hear my heart beat in my ears. I don't get it. Mary had the same as me and she went to bed hours ago. Tell me about it. I tried to go to bed, but then I ended up bringing one of those late night quiz thingies. Name something a woman keeps in her handbag. What was it? A mouse? That's what I said. Then I said phone, lipstick, taxi numbers. What was the answer? Spatina. They're just making them up now.

Kevin, that's a lovely tribute. Oh, so that's not Alan. Steve, that's Steve. Steve, Steve, Steve, Steve, Steve, Steve. All right, you're listening to Life in the Path on Des Moines Amplified.com. All right, so what's the… Alan. I don't know. What's the thought on that video? That's a travesty. Everybody loved it. That's what happened. It's good. So, I don't know. One to ten, what do we think? Eleven. Good stuff. Love it. Three thumbs up. Everybody loves it. Telling you. Alan. Alan. I like the giraffes. Eleven. It's not Alan.

Maybe it's Steve. Steve, Steve, Steve. Actually, I think Dan's right. I think it is better than the second time. You watch it again. Yeah, it's not as painful. Because I watched that out. So, I saw this. Mike sent it to me. This had been three or four days ago. And I saw this chipmunk. That's in the description. Everybody says, Alan, Alan, Alan. I'm like, okay. I can't wait to this part. And he says it. And then I watched him like, eh. Alan, Alan, Alan. Great. Fantastic. Like, this is totally lame. And then I walked in. We were saying goodbye to the Andersons. And I came back in. And doggone it. If that guy wasn't back on saying Alan.

And it was funny. And that bird moving around in the Michael Jackson stuff. Boy, that's sweet. Hey, man. They were fantastic. Oh, man. They are good. They were excellent. Really good. Yeah. Here's what I'm amazed at. Like, the caliber of talent that we get in here compared to the platform that we're offering. You know what I'm saying? What are you saying? I'm saying we're three amateur doofuses. And professional musicians come in here. I'm having a bad day now. I started out pretty good. Thanks. Wait a minute. I should sing one of her songs to comfort you. Everybody has those days. Good break up with you. You're a loser. Has those days. Has.

I don't do good renditions. What is it? Has those days? Yeah. Actually, I've been checking out the website during the week, and the songs, they just play there for free. It doesn't cost any money or anything. It really is. I'm not a big pop music guy, but it's a good tune. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. They're good. Yeah. Very good. Did you see me score a free signed CD? That's very impressive. I only asked for one. I think you should ask for three next time. Hey, I was thinking, we should start collecting, I don't know, propaganda for folks, so we can put it up. We could put it in our… Well, we don't have a trophy case. Yeah. You know, something to think about. We could put it on our walls.

Yeah. Anyway, you're listening to Live from the Path on themoineappified.com. You can find us during the week, if you're interested in doing so, at livefromthepath.org. The performances from tonight will be posted on our YouTube channel, probably tonight. I'll probably get it done when I get home, so those will be able to look at tomorrow. You can also find Jess Anderson on our site, under performances. It'll give you a link to the show that she was on, so you can watch the whole show if you like. Also, a link to any of the YouTube performances that are on there, and to her website. So, keep an eye out for her. They do have a mailing list that you can sign up for, and they have a Facebook page. I would try to hook up with both, so that when that CD does come out, you can pick it up, because it… I don't know. Well, I'm interested in Heaven. I think it's pretty… Yeah. That's nice. Definitely. Incidentally, your score was 8.6 repeating percent at the Heaven tunage. Mr. Khan said… I forgot what it was. What did he say? How did he go backwards? Oh, let me just scroll up. It was 3 out of 26, right?

3 out of 26. Mr. Khan says 11.5%. What'd you say? I said 8.6 repeating. I'm just going to say, I'm going to trust Mr. Khan over Mr. Foost. It can't be 11. 3 times 11 is 33. I'm pretty sure he has a master's degree in mathematics. Well, I'm pretty sure they just give it away to anybody. It's 8.6%. That is the deal. 3 into 20… You can't go… If it's 10%, let's say you're going 10% of 33. That's 3.3, right? So, for you to have 11% and only get 3 questions right, that has to be more than 33 points available. You understand? You're talking to a preacher. I counted like 30, 40. I don't care what the facts are. Oh, 40%. It's 8.6 repeating. I haven't followed anything that's been going on the last 10 minutes. It's 8 and 2 thirds. 8 and 2 thirds percent. Let's dance.

Oh, that's a challenge, Mr. Khan. Man. Okay, anyway. So, you know, one of the things I want to say we've been talking about this week, I happen to have been talking about this week, and thinking about, was at the start of the new year, you know, what does God want from me? I think that's kind of a tough thing, because sometimes we kind of clog through life, and we're doing the same things over and over again. And we're just existing, but we're not really existing for God. We're trying to be obedient, and we're trying to follow what he's asked us to do, but I think sometimes we resign ourselves as if doing that means I'm doing a monotonous thing or a boring thing or something that I don't want to do because God will do something with me here. Or we're waiting for God to interject into our lives. You know, if I just slug out on this job for 20 years, someday God will show up and, like, completely change things for me, and then I'll be ready to go. So, and so, you know, one of the things to think about, I think, coming into this new year is really that you are an active participant in your following Christ. It doesn't say, Christ doesn't say, you know, take up your cross while I drag you. Right. It's take up your cross and follow me. It implies there's some action on your behalf that you need to be making. He's given you the ability to take action in your life and follow the guidance and the principles that he set out as opposed to, you know, here I am, Lord, do whatever you need to do and, you know, drag me along with you or push me or whatever. I think that sometimes we wait for that Isaiah experience where God just kind of shoves us into the throne room and we see these, you know, huge events that just, like, whoa, you know, and woe is me thing or, you know, the handwriting on the wall, what does God want me to do? He has some specific plan. And, yeah, he just looks for available people who are willing to do what he wants, you know, whatever.

And, yeah, it could be that 20-year doing the monotonous thing or it could be something. Well, I think there's a stark difference between, and, you know, sometimes I get this confused. Like, when people say, you know, God can use you for things, you know, God may have it in line to use you for a big thing, you know, but there's life to live in between the big things, you know. Like, there's little things to do for God, you know, until maybe his purpose for you shows up. You know, it's not like, you know, because they say, you know, the Lord could use you at any time in your life, you know, so always be prepared, you know. So it might not be until you're 80 and then the Lord's got something planned for you. Right, right. But that doesn't mean do whatever you want until you're 80, you know. That means get ready for the preparation, you know. Like, you know, day-to-day life is witnessing. Day-to-day life is devotion. Day-to-day life is, you know, getting buried in God's Word and, you know, knowing what, understanding the God that you're dealing with. So, you know, when the time comes that he's going to use you for something, you're ready to do it. Right. You know, and so, you know, half of that's being willing to do it, and the other half of it is being prepared to do it. Well, but I think to a certain extent, sometimes we say, you know, preparing for the time where God will use me. I mean, really, God can, you can be useful to God and, you know, doing what God wants you to do on a daily basis, and that is him using you. Like, I think sometimes we have an expectation. You can live your whole life, you know, never being the Andersons, for example. I mean, they have the potential, they have a ton of talent,

and they have the potential to reach a lot of people for Christ. I could wait, and that doesn't mean, like, even if I diligently follow what I'm supposed to do, that sometime God will have me do that. Right? That's not where my skills lie. You know, it's not as likely as what they're up to. But I could live a full and robust life for Christ, you know, being a janitor or, you know, being the guy that helps seat people to movie theater or doing the office work that I do. I mean, sure. You know, so it's a weird thing is really, I think, what we have to be open to is opportunity. Understand, like, yes, you can grow where you're planted. You can be fruitful where you're planted. You can help people. You can lead people to Christ. You can influence people for Christ, regardless of where you're at. And that's one of the reasons I really like that. Colossians, what are the 327 or wherever it says, you know, whatever you do, do it, you know, as if you're doing it for the Lord. I mean, that's anything. Right, right. You know, and you can do that wherever you like. And, you know, it could be that you're preparing for something large. But I would make the case that, you know, our minor things are large, you know, to the people that you're impacting, the people that you're influencing. That's it. Why do we always want to be, you know, the guy who picks up the stone and kills the giant?

Why do we want to be the guy who leads the troops into battle? Why do we think we have to be, you know, the hero? You look at what is the more significant in eternity. Look, a thousand years from today, what's more important? That you brought someone with you to heaven, whether it's your children or your neighbor or someone you work with or just someone you know, a relative, whatever, whether the, you know, they're in heaven for eternity because of you or because you threw a rock at a giant and killed him. Yeah. I mean, honestly, what's the bigger impact? You prove the power of God with the rock thing, you know. Yeah, yeah. And again, that's a valid thing. Well, no, but I think that's a probably, you know, apples to apples example, you know, like what, you know, what he did is no less, you know, amazing and shows the power of God and what God can do and how God can use people. But, I mean, you're right. It is an example of a power of God, but, you know, salvation is too, you know, and the people that you can bring to Christ to know that salvation is, I mean, that's just as much of a testimony as throwing a rock at a guy. Yeah, yeah. And, you know, I almost think that maybe the appropriate perspective is with every step I take, I'm going to try to take it for God. But I'm also going to keep my eyes open, you know. Step with purpose and keep your eyes open, you know, so that when you're walking, you're doing what, you know, you're doing what you're supposed to be doing for Christ

and you're trying to live life that he's asked you to do, but you've got your eyes open in case something comes up where he can use you differently than you're being used now. I think sometimes we say he can use me. He's always using you or like you're always can be influencing people for Christ. It's, you know, just keep your eye open for the opportunity to do something different than what you're currently doing is really where your distinction lies. You know, I don't know why I threw out the David thing, Kate, but just take that as an example. David's the guy written down in the book, and he's the guy we all know. But think of all the things that had to happen for that story to happen. Somebody made the food. He was going to go feed his brothers. Someone said, hey, why don't you go feed your brothers? He got out there. Who knows how many conversations he had on the way out there. He went in and met with Saul in his tent. Well, someone put the tent stake in the ground and put the tent up and brought the, I mean, there are so many people involved with the story that we don't know their names. They were all, if one of those people hadn't done their thing, the story wouldn't happen. God used every one of them. And I think that goes to your thing. The whole life of monotony thing is you just do your thing and do what you think God's leading you to do. And be, you know, sometimes I feel like, man, I'm a big failure. There's not 200,000 people at our church, you know. And you kind of, we can play the numbers game. You know, I'm not doing this and I'm not doing that.

And I still go back to, man, if one person is influenced for Christ because of anything you've done or the ripple effect of what you've done, what else matters? Could you ask for anything more? Exactly. Exactly. I guess that maybe that brings up kind of a broader thing. And I feel like we may have touched on this before, but it's the thought of, like, God's plan for my life. You know, a lot of times, like, we've done something where I feel like it's God's plan or this is, you know, I'm not feeling like I'm doing God's plan. You know, I think the general question is, is there a God's plan? Like, is there a specific plan for your life that God is expecting you to follow that you can fall in and out of? Or, you know, converse to that, is God giving you a set of principles of which to live and it just expects you to follow that in whatever it is that you're doing? I think he gives specific assignments. I don't know if I've ever really thought about it this way until this moment. I was just kind of processing what you said. I don't know if he has, here's the plan for your life. I want you to do A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and A might not be. Right, like if you do A and B and you're rocking and then you kind of fall out for C and D, you come back for G. Everything's over now or whatever. It's like, here, you do your thing and God has this huge chessboard, spiritual chessboard, and he just puts people where he wants them, when he wants them, how he wants them. And there are times you have specific assignments and you look through scripture and here's this one thing. Here, I want you to meet this one person. I want you to talk to that one individual or do this one task.

And sometimes it's just you just living out your faith, which is the generic thing that we should always be doing anyway. And God does things through that without you even knowing it half the time. Well, that's, and that's, you know, sometimes I get caught, I catch myself playing that game like every, like to stick along with the chessboard analogy, you know, that every move is, I'm involved in every move. You know what I'm saying? Like every time something happens, I'm like, well, that sounds like it's of God to me. You know, that's of the Lord. The Lord's done this. You know, the Lord's done this. Which is, I mean, there's a lot of truth in it, you know, and you can find, you know, God's direction in a lot of things, you know, but not everything is a sign from above, you know. And sometimes that's hard, that's very hard to discern, you know, on what is, you know, what God's done doing in your life and what he has planned because you have no idea what he has planned. So you taking wild stabs and guesses at what he's got going on for you, you know, can only be solved through prayer, really. You know, like, Lord, you know, is this what we're after? Is this what, you know, is this what's going down? Because you can't, you know, the chessboard analogy is almost perfect, too, because, like I said, you know, he moves people to where he wants them when he wants them there. And he doesn't just pick you up every time. You know, you're not the only guy on the board. Your action's going on over here, and you're just a pawn on the other side going, You're just hanging out, you know, waiting. I'm a loser. For the time for the Lord to use you, you know.

You're still in the game, you know, because, and you're still living a, you know, a life for Christ. Because you're on the board. You know, but, you know, the Lord will put you into play, and then, you know, when you serve your purpose and he's glorified, he'll put you right back on the bench for a minute. You know, he's got other stuff going. Yeah. And I don't know, that seems like a pretty cool way to look at it, too. You know, and maybe you're the, maybe you are the pawn, you know, but maybe you're the, maybe you're the piper. Maybe you move straight big and diagonal, or maybe your guide just takes a little step at a time. You could be the Stephen in the New Testament in Acts, where God moved his pawn one step, and he gets killed. Yeah. And he's like, wait a minute, you took me off the chessboard. And God's like, yeah, just wait, what's coming up next? Yeah. You know, and the church starts exploding with growth, and that was part of his plan. Well, that's exactly right. He moved Stephen's pawn, you know, one step, and someone took him, but boy, that left him vulnerable for the church movement that's coming behind Stephen. And the family and friends are going, man, what a bummer, God messed up, oh no, he didn't mean that. It's like, no, he really did. You know, it hurts, it's no fun, but yeah, you know, it was the plan. That's the thing, though, is that, you know, can you find yourself being excited that you're a pawn for Jesus? You know, like, is that exciting for you? Because it probably should be. You know, that should be more than enough to go, you know, whatever. I want to be a knight. Yeah.

You know, I think that part's difficult, and I think there's some, sometimes there's guilt associated with not being excited. I think there's a difference between recognizing where your opportunity lies and what God wants to do with your life and thinking that you have to be overjoyed to do it. I mean, you're still human. You're susceptible to emotions that God is very well aware of. And if the choice is, if you're Stephen, you know, even Jesus says, you know, if there's a way that this cup can be taken away from me, let it be done. But, I mean, he obviously has the appropriate perspective, you know, not my will but yours. But, I mean, if Jesus is our example and he says, look, I see what's coming, and boy, if this didn't have to happen, that would be cool. But he still does it. And so, I mean, showing that emotional level to say, look, you need to keep your eyes open for what God's got going on and the opportunity that he presents. But, I mean, you still have human emotions about it. It's better to be obedient than happy about doing the wrong thing. Right. So, you know, one of the things I felt like I had a really hard time trying to articulate when we were talking about things like God's plan, because there are a lot of folks that lean on, I think, God's plan. Like it was, you know, God brought this about, this is Jesus, that kind of thing. And it's tough because I feel like we're balancing on two different beams here. The first one is, you know, God, you know, is up to stuff. And it's important that you keep your eyes open. But second, it's detrimental to the kingdom for you to be sitting on your duff waiting for God to shove you around. And also, and this is one where I really had a tough time balancing, is wait, I don't want to say wasting God's time, but like feeling like you're, you're asking, you're talking to God about, or you're asking God to move on what is probably trivial things.

And that's tough because God can do anything with anything. Right. So, I mean, it could say, I want you to choose to drink diet soda because you're going to run another guy who drinks diet soda. And you two will sympathize together and then you'll start a relationship. Right. God could do that. Right. I'm just not sure, I'm not sure if that's where our focus is. We're like, we don't take a step without trying to look for a sign from the heavens as to which direction to go. That we're not wasting the talent and the inertia that God has given us to go out and live our day-to-day lives for Christ without having to vet everything up against, you know, what he's up to. I don't know. I have trouble with that. Because, I mean, it's not that God can't do those little things. Because I think you're pretty, like, I don't know. Well, I guess if you say that, though, you say, where do you draw the line? Like, what do you pray on and what do you not? Mm-hmm. You know, yeah. Yeah, I think you just, you start every day saying, okay, God, guide my path. I'm just, I'm going to start walking. And if I need to sit down, then sit me down. You know, I mean, yeah. Here's my plan. Shut the door if you don't want me going there. Like, I think it's better to be, you know, striding with open eyes as opposed to shackled, you know, impending.

Yeah. I just, I can't move until God says go. It's like, he said go in the scripture, so go ahead and go. Yeah. You know, and if you're in the wrong place, it won't work. You do something else. Well, you know, and I think this works with big things as much as it works with little things. You know, let's say you run into a job situation where, you know, you lose your job, and then you apply for two jobs, and they both come back and say how you want you. And you're like, Lord, I pray, I'm praying heavy, you know, just point me in a direction. You know, and you know what? Pick the best one. Yeah, he's probably like, I don't care. Yeah, whatever. What makes you happy? You can, I can work in either one of these jobs. You know, you can talk to people about me in either one of these places. Yeah. Pick whichever one you think is going to work. Yeah, I think from a broad perspective, if you want to take God's plan in its context, God wants you to go to join him in heaven. That is what he wants done. Can that be accomplished in what it is I'm doing? If that's a yes answer, it's not, probably not worth sweating over too much, as long as, again, you know, you just have your eyes constantly open for opportunity. Was there something, you know, my decompressed prayer tends to be, did I miss anything?

Do I need to keep a better eye out for tomorrow? Is there anything that needs to be in my mind tonight, you know, for me to think about some more, you know? Well, you know, that's the best I can do. It's not likely that God's going to, again, you know, just jump out of nowhere and boogity-boogity-band head to Zimbabwe. I got stuff there going on. He could. You know, but if that didn't happen, you know, I have to trust that when God speaks, I'll hear, because he says I will, you know? Yeah, that's actually probably a pretty good point, too, is to realize, you know, about God. And when God wants things done, you know, like, you don't have a lot to fear as if you're going to miss God's intent. You know, if you're honestly seeking it, you know, ask and you shall receive, knock and the door will be open. You know what I'm saying? Like, if you're looking for God to say something, you know, or if God has something to do with you and you're honestly paying attention and looking for it, you'll get it. You know, it's not going to pass you by. You know, God, he's not a deceptor. You know, he's not one to set you up to fail. You know what I mean? You're saying, Lord, I'm willing, set me up. You know, what do you want me to do? The Lord says, okay. Hey, you know, it's not like he holds up two cards and you can't see him and go, aha, well, Mike, if you're so ready, pick one. That's right. You know, you'll never guess, you know. Yeah. I think people think, you know, I think I'm missing the Lord's, you know, what the Lord wants me to do. Well, you're probably not talking to him enough, you know. Like, I mean, he gives you more than enough explanation in, and I'm guilty of this, too, you know, more than enough explanation in his word and a direct line of communication with prayer.

And so, you know, don't be so afraid that you're going to miss it that you don't move at all. Yeah, yeah. You know, and it's kind of funny. A lot of times we won't make a move, whatever that move is, unless we are forced to, you know, some type of uncomfort or you lose your job and all of a sudden, wow, now I've got to make a choice or something like that. But sometimes, on the other hand of that, on the other side of that, is sometimes we'll use discomfort as an excuse to make up God's will. I have a lot of friends that are pastors, you know, and they get a little bit of friction going on. And, you know, anytime you have people, there's going to be some friction somewhere, especially if you're leading in any way. There's going to be something, hey, I don't like this, you know. And, you know, the average guy stays in church like three years because all of a sudden God's leading him to go somewhere else. You know, it's like, some little lady's mad at you and you can't handle it. It's usually a situation, you know. Yeah. I'm going to go start over where people are good, not like these jerks, you know. And it's like, oh, there's still people, you know. And they get their pride in the way and they get, you know, and they're putting words in God's mouth. And I think people do that anywhere. I'm going to jump from church to church and, you know, I've been to seven churches in six years, you know. Yeah. And I don't know. I think that's where it's very peaceful and cathartic and beneficial to be centered on living biblically. Because there's not a lot of situations that can throw you off. You know, and that's one of the things that really pushes me to be in my Bible more, besides that LTG that we're in, is that, you know, I kind of like being at peace. It's nice. And so, you know, I know that there's not a situation that can really throw me for a big loop. I mean, there could be chaos around me. They could fire me and take my house away.

And my grounding is not in my house and is not in my job. And sorry, it's not even in my family. Like my grounding exists, you know, through biblical truth, you know, and that allows me to be flexible in how in the peaceful way I can deal with my life. And there's not a lot that can throw you off. And that's a situation where, you know, if you've got a guy that's ditching out of a church church because there's an old lady that's causing him trouble, it makes you wonder, you know, that's not a biblical centeredness. You're centered on how important is my job to me, how important is my comfort to me versus, you know, where does this line up with God and what he's got going on? Yeah. Yeah, that's true. They don't say that being in the Lord's service is daisies and corn nuts all the time, you know? Right. Sometimes it's going to be threshing. You know, sometimes it's going to be some hard work going down. True, true. What are you laughing at? Sorry. They're using my sermon against me. They're talking about the Isaiah. They're standing in the field with your arms open saying, here am I, send me. I tried that in a prayer room. Yeah. I did the Isaiah. You did, didn't you? I Isaiahed in the prayer room. Were you in your underpants? That makes it more effective. I was fully clothed when I Isaiahed.

Here I am. So in case anybody missed it, nobody missed it. But part of the example was when you're trying to figure out what God is doing with your life, sometimes we try some kind of wacky things. We're trying to push God to kind of show us some direction. And the first example was, what happens in the prayer room stays in the prayer room. That's right on. So it's the spin the globe method where you like, you know, you spin the globe and you drag your finger. And sometimes it's like, where will I live or where will I travel? You do weird stuff when you're a kid. It gets worse because the more fancy globe, it's the topographic. You can tell when you're in the mountains. You're like, I want to go to the mountains. You kind of push your finger harder. Keep going. Keep going. Total cheating. So really, when I was preparing for the message this week, I did. I was at work and I took my Bible out and I opened it up and I didn't look and I just put my finger down and it was right on Numbers 23, 1 and 2. And it had to do with like slaying bulls for sacrifice. And I thought, boy, this is why you don't just close your eyes and poke anywhere. Or at least stay out of the Old Testament. I mean, okay, God, what do you got for me? I mean, oh, but that is not the first time I've done it.

Like I think, especially this is what happens, especially if I stop, if I stop reading my Bible for a while, I think, boy, he's probably got some stored up stuff for me. I better, I'm just going to open it up and start reading and see what he's got. And sure enough, it's, it's begatting. You know, I've done that and actually read verses that pertain nothing to me and tried to give them meaning. Like the Lord has been pointing them out to me, you know, like they had, they had absolutely nothing to say in reference to what I was saying. I'm like, this is real heavy. I'm going to process it and the Lord is going to speak something through me. What should I do with these fig leaves? I'm the new Abraham and wife, you are now going to be my sister until things change for the better. I'll let you know. Uh, I mean, obviously, uh, Paul's clear that, uh, anything there is, uh, the scripture is good for, uh, you know, teaching, rebuking, that kind of stuff. So I mean, it's not, there's not value to opening the old book and putting the finger down, but, but like assigning it as God sending you somewhere because that's where your finger ended up. Well, it's not a likely, it's not a Ouija board. Exactly. Like, like it's a, it's a, it's a, it's an open communication and, and, and building a relationship of understanding the God you're dealing with and what your salvation really looks like, you know, it's not like a, a magic eight ball. Well, I just give it a try. I'm going to try it cyberly here.

I have a, you have like a scripture randomizer. Well, I just have the whole Bible and I just got to scroll down randomly. The top verse will be, uh, the question would be, what'd be our question for God? Um, uh, do you approve of testing the Lord your God? Go randomly. We are at Daniel 12 one at that time. Michael, the great prince who, uh, who protect your people will arise. There will be a time of distress such as not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time, your people, everyone whose name is found written in the book will be delivered. That's pretty heavy. Yeah. That sounds like a no. Okay. Okay. I think he's saying, do not, since there's a mic in the studio, do not random, do not randomize the Bible. What shall I have for lunch tomorrow? Guys, uh, David together with the commanders of the army set apart some of the sons of Aspa. Uh, he, he, oh, it just moved. Oh, no. He said, don't mock me. Let's see. Previous. Oh, I don't know where it went.

Oh, man. Words of drool. I don't know what you have for lunch for tomorrow. Uh, Stacy's interpreted as eating people. So I think Aspa is on the way out. Oh, here it is. It's dinner. It just had a bunch of guys' names. I'm supposed to have a lunch meeting tomorrow. With Aspa? Aaron, Nabab, Abihu, Eliezer, Ithlamar. Boy. Here's the deal. I kind of like the name Eliezer. I like the name of Bahab. What if he called you tomorrow? I like the name Dan. Abimelech. Yeah. What if he called you tomorrow at 8 o'clock and said, Daniel, this is a Bahab. Let's meet. All right. I'm available. Just not hoo-hot. My wife would be mad. You want to go hoo-hot?

Don't let me get the garlic. How could you turn that down? I mean, randomly. That reminds me. Is that banaca? I guess so. That is it? It's halfway ripping off. It looks like banaca? Yeah, it's banaca. I told you that. I missed my mouth, partly, though. I wouldn't say it really killed bad breath germs. It kind of masked it for about five minutes. It wards it off. I wonder if they sell a non-violent breath freshener. We'll make friends with your bad breath. It's a pleasing breath for the pacifist. You've been listening to Life on the Path on Des Moines Amplified.com. In case you missed it earlier in the broadcast, I was going to say it. I was going to say we were blessed, but I said I don't say that because I think that's too holier than thou. It was great to have Jess Anderson and her husband, Jordan, in, and they did a fantastic job. I would recommend you check out jessanderson.com. They're also on Facebook.

Again, we'll be posting clips of those performances on our YouTube channel, and you can also find a link to them on our … There's several Jess Anderson's on the website. I don't know how to describe her. She's young. I think her picture is a side profile. Yeah, yeah. Like with a brick background, I believe. Isn't it jessanderson.com? Well, that's the group … Well, that's the website, but the Facebook … Oh. I don't know. Well … Hey, there's some Eliezer's on Facebook, by the way. Is there … I love the name Eliezer. Uh-oh. I'm happy. Sounded serious? Things are okay. I don't know what's happening. Anyway. Also, I guess … If you go to the website, she's also … Pastor Eliezer. Boy, that man. He's a direct phone line to God. He's got one in his office. She's performing in town. So, I mean, you can still catch her.

It sounds like she'll be at Grace Church on Sunday. Sunday morning. Yeah. Anyway. Did you not say what time? You can hit our early service. I think it's on the website. And then go. Yeah. If you want to stop by the Pathway Church in Johnson at 9 o'clock and hit the first service and then jet on over to Grace Church over there just off 235 on the east side, then you can catch their performance as well. Yeah. Yeah. I'll be going. It'll be pretty solid. I'm not going. I'm not going. I would like to. It's probably just a couple songs in the service type thing. Actually, it's my week off. I might go. I don't know, Dan. I don't want to miss the start of this James series, though. It's going to be good. You know what I noticed?

Dan's going to start a sermon series on James. Thanks, Vance. But, I mean, you got whole messages off like two verses. Yeah. Yeah. That's some power. And then I'll kind of pull in some other stuff to kind of support, you know. It won't be just like, here's your two verses, and goodbye. The book of James is like sitting on a firework, man. Oh, yeah. You got to be ready. You got to be ready to get up and roll. I love the book of James. Yeah. It's full of solid stuff. It's like sticking your head in the toilet. It'll wake you up. I've never tried. I know how to talk to the other people. You guys talk to the main people. I will talk to the fringe crowd that understands what I'm saying. People that stick their own head in the toilet. Yeah. Hey, so my toilet's leaking, and I stuck my head in there to try to kind of fish it out. I mean, I couldn't quite tell, so I stuck my head in the bowl to see if I could pick out where it was leaking. And I said that was a terrible idea, and I won't ever do it again.

Yeah. It's a good idea to not ever do that again. Let's learn. Wait a minute. The bowl or the tank? Both. Well, I thought, see, here's the deal is that it was trickling so slowly, I put my finger in the bowl to try to see whether it would build up on my finger. And I said that was also a terrible idea. Like, I should have got some gloves or something. Yeah. I made a series of mistakes in this particular venture. Yeah. And I regret it. Yeah. So there you go. Oh. So coming up this month, just for a heads up, we still have John Acuff we're going to have scheduled. If you didn't check him out from last week, I recommend going to stuffchristianslike.net. He wrote an article today about already being behind reading your Bible in a year, and it's only the 3rd of January. That's not a good start. Yeah. But hey, hey, Dan. Dan, you know, and I didn't even tell her about this, but my wife noticed the Bible reading in the bulletin this week. Really? Yeah. And she read it even.

She picked it up and goes, yeah, I'm going to do it. So she starts following the Bible reading that Dan's put out there. Really? I'll have to be honest. I didn't. We talked about taking it out, and I didn't know if she kept it or left it. Yeah. It was still there. She left it in there. I mean, I think you should hold on to it, and I think you should point out that it's there. Did it? Was it? We did talk about maybe retitling it. Did it say, this is how you can read the Bible for a year? Yeah. Well, yeah. She got the impression from it. Yeah. Okay. Because that's, I think, why she did it. Sometimes you just, you know what you mean, and you just write something else, but nobody else knows you meant, oh, if we do this, you could read through the Bible. Yeah. Yeah. It was just random verses. Mm-hmm.

Yeah. It's good to have fresh eyes, look at things. Alan. Alan. Steve. Maybe it's no Alan. Maybe it's Steve. Steve. That's the best. I think I watched it with the sound too low. Yeah, you did. I mean, 1230 in the morning, and it was probably a mistake. Like, if I had it full volume. I think you're going to replay it at the end of the show. We're going to watch it again. Otherwise, I'll have to watch it when I get home. Alan. What do we got? What? Who? Hey. Hey. What's going on here? Who dat? Who dat? We got musical guests coming up in January?

Yes. On the 17th, Mr. Zabota will be in. He's a local guy. He's from. Is he taller than me? I don't know. I haven't. I didn't ask for his height. Are we friends on Facebook? Uh, no. Hold on. Okay, hold on. Wait, Zabota? Yeah. How do you spell that? What's he about? Right out in front of you, huh? I don't know. Zimbota? No. No. Isn't that like the big thing you drive around a hockey rink? Hold on. Hold on. This is Zamboni. Zamboni?

That was close. That was not close. That was not even close at all. Okay, here we go. Oh, sorry. It's Zach Zabota. S-V-O-B-O-D-A. There you go. V-O-B-O-D-A. So, yeah. Right now we… Oh, okay. Yeah. Yeah. There you go. You're in. Okay. Make friends. I want it. Oh, I better get over there. Yeah. Next week… Yeah, I don't know. I don't know what we're doing next week. Well, actually, it's every other week, so there will be non-biblical signs of the apocalypse. Stacey's actually found some pretty priceless ones that she sent over.

So, by the way, if you run into anything during the week that you think would be an appropriate non-biblical sign of the apocalypse, please send me an email. It's info at livefromthepath.org, and we'll review it to be included in the show. But, yeah. Yeah, it's in pretty good shape. I have a couple. Oh, yeah. Cassidy's on next week. Huh? Yeah, I think Matt's on next week. Matt Cassidy? Yeah. No one tells me this? It was like a month ago. So, I assume he's still coming. I'll have to follow up. You better check with him. Yeah. Is that the Zach of which you speak? Yeah, look. Yeah, with half a face. Yeah, that's him. I like that. That's him right there. Can we introduce him on the chat there? Okay, that's good.

Yeah, there you go. I better friend him, so I'm prepared. Yeah, yeah. Get on. He'll say, who is this person? Yeah, so anyway. Is he also the musical guest? I'm not sure. I don't think we have a musical guest next week. Does Matt Cassidy play any type of instrument? Zach and I, we like need to breed, so we're like this now. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, he was on the chat. He was harassing me about the microphone in the face. Who was? For Jessa. Mr. Cassidy. We'll discuss it next week. Oh, yeah, classic. Yeah, it sounds like a real whiz-bang of a time. Once again. I told him we were going to call security if he comes. I'm super excited to listen to Mr. Negative Cassidy. He's going to be full of, he's going to be a ball of positive energy. Oh, he's what? He's going to be a ball of fire.

He's going to be mad at something. I'm excited now. Next week, Cassidy. Yeah, I would, I think he would be a great roaming, a roaming street reporter. We should send him out to talk to folk. That'd be good. Remember, Hugh said he was going to do the hot chocolate thing and he failed on it. I know. Yeah, that never came through. I didn't get any hot chocolate. I'd say we bring a guitar and have him sing. Yeah. Are you going to play it? I'll play. Should I bring my guitar? Yeah, do it. Yeah. I'll bring my guitar next week. I'll bring maracas. That'd be good. Yeah. I've got a bunch of plastic ones in the basement of the office. Yeah, video, the mobile video on the street is problematic for us here in the studio. There's ways to do it, but it's like we'd have, we've got to get like a mobile Skype. Yeah, we'll work on it. I bet it can be done.

The time will come. Yeah. Oh, yeah. We will expand. We're making some inroads here. Yeah. By the way, there was an article on the belief bug, seen in the belief bug this week. It says, if you're angry at your doctor, your boss, your relative, or your spouse, you can probably sit down and have a productive conversation about it. God, on the other hand, is probably not available to chat, and yet people get angry at God all the time, especially about everyday disappointments, finds a new set of studies in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. It's not just religious folks either. People unaffiliated with organized religion, atheists, and agnostics, also report anger toward God either in the past or anger focused on a hypothetical image. That is what they imagine God might be like, said the lead study author. In studies on college students, atheists and agnostics reported more anger at God during their lifetimes than believers. A separate study also found this pattern among bereaved individuals. This phenomenon is something X-Lion and colleagues will explore more in future research, which is open to more participants, which I find to be odd. Like, agnostics, maybe. Atheists, you're saying it doesn't exist at all, yet you spend time being angry at it. Isn't that the opposite? I kind of just confused that, though. I thought agnostics were the guys who were like, we don't really care.

You go about your business. Atheists, I think, are more proactive at saying you're an idiot. Yeah, yeah. Your agnostics do or do not acknowledge there's a God. I thought agnostics didn't acknowledge him. Atheists believe in him. They just don't like him. No. Okay, I mix that up, though. Yeah, I think you do have that backwards. Yeah, I don't think that's right. Because I think an agnostic is someone who just doesn't really, doesn't carry away, really. Hold on, here we go. Hold on. Agnostic, here we go. A person who holds that the existence of the ultimate cause as a person who denies or doubts the possibility of ultimate knowledge in some area of study. A person who holds that the existence of the ultimate cause as God and the essential nature of things are unknown and unknowable or that human knowledge is limited to experience. Oh, okay. So, like, they're not necessarily anti-God. They just, they think it's, they doubt the possibility of ultimate knowledge or, in this case, God. Yeah. Huh. Interesting. Yeah. So, I mean, I don't know. I think that's interesting that they would, it also says younger people tend to be angry at God than older people.

It also seems that more religious people are less likely to feel angry at God and more likely to see his intentions as well. Meaning, well, okay, that makes sense. Oh, check this out. She says some of the reasons that younger people, she's seen people the angriest at God, and this is for younger people, include rejection from preferred colleges and sports injuries, preventing high schoolers from competing. These are the primary answers. You know, I heard that. I was listening to a, we'll call it a Christian radio program. And this gal had come on, and she's like, you know, the Lord really worked his ways. My daughter had hurt herself, and she wasn't going to be able to play soccer this fall, and it was really going to be disappointing to her. So, we took her to a Christian healer. And she healed her, and now she's been, you know, to God's glory, been able to play her sports and her swimming like she's supposed to. And I thought, is this all the Lord has going? Wow. Is that she can play fall sports, you know? And then I thought, maybe it is. Maybe it is to God's glory that she's healed to have, I don't know. These are the things that puzzle me. Yeah. Like, I don't know where God stops and where people's, you know, crap starts. Yeah, really. And I hate it that I question that someone would be misrepresenting what the Lord's got going. You know, I'd like to say that every person I hear that says God has done something wonderful for them, that I can take them at completely face value and go, yes, you know, that's awesome. You know, God is great, but I just can't. Like, it's got to be 75% of the stuff that I hear that I go, I'm not buying that. And where'd you come up with that?

Yeah, that don't sound like, that doesn't sound consistent with what the Lord's got going. What made you think that God wanted you to play in soccer? Yeah. Yeah, really. Oh, God wants me to be happy. Because it's important to you? Well, I was going to say that. But, I mean, isn't that very relevant to the topic we were talking about earlier? I mean, maybe God wants me to play soccer to influence the other people on the team. Yeah, but I could live my whole life like that. I could live my whole life making the decision for God on what he wants me to do. Yeah. I could think, you know what, I do like my job. I could reach people for Jesus at my job. Is that where God wants me? Well, I don't care. The Lord can use me there. That's good enough, right? Yeah. I could see it going that way. I don't know. That's what I'm asking. I mean, is it, I don't think we can say it's not feasible that God could want you on the soccer team. I mean, is that possible? It's possible.

Is it likely? Enough to heal you? I don't know if he would make it that clear to you that you better go on the soccer team even though you're injured. You better go to a healer. I think it's, hey, I'm a good soccer player. Maybe God can use me here. Yeah. You know, I mean, if he wanted you there, you'd be there. It wouldn't be like, whoops, I got knocked out with a broken leg and my hip. But, you know, I guess if you are faithfully looking for opportunity to serve God, I have to be confident that I will know with clarity what it is I'm supposed to be doing through whatever means is appropriate. Like, he's not the author of confusion, right? So, I mean, if he's got something going on for me and I'm actively looking for it, I don't know how there can be a misfire there. It's got to be, you know, God says, God moves. God makes apparent. I notice. I move. And so I think we have to be confident about that. And so, like, there probably shouldn't be any doubt. But I guess to your example, they're certain this is of God. God wants me to play soccer. Who am I to say that it's not certain? Sure.

But that's the thing. Like, what's the harm? What's the harm in believing that God has had that influence? God has chosen that they be healed. I don't know. Is there a harm? Well, what's the harm in attributing things to God that aren't of him? Can you do that? Like, if, I mean, if God's the center of everything, can you wrongfully attribute things to God that aren't? I think I have to be careful putting words in his mouth and putting will in his will that isn't his, you know? I mean, I might quietly believe, hey, God really wants me to play soccer. But I doubt I'd go around and, you know, tell all my neighbors, hey, I went to a healer because I know God wanted me. But what is it? How would it be a misrepresentation of God to do that? Well, unless you really know. How would you ever really know? That's a good question. Beside the point that you, like, feel that way. I mean, like with Isaiah, God showed up and said, oh, by the way, here's your job. You know, but that doesn't happen very often. That happens, like, what, five times in the Bible? Right. Out of billions of people who have lived and died.

I mean, you know, why do I think I need to have that specific, you know? Well, that's true. I guess it's, I guess it's, maybe the question is, it's like, it's hard to discern. It's just hard to discern what people say about God as being true. You know, especially if it seems like it's biblically consistent, but not necessarily biblically believable. Did you kind of catch what I'm saying? Like, I don't know, people that do random healings. Like Benny Hinn. What makes Benny Hinn so out of the realm? It's his personal profit, personal gain. That's obvious, you know? And so it's, I guess that you can start to kind of shy away. But let's say you find, you know, a dirt poor guy that's healing people for Christ. There's a guy whose name is John of God. Have you heard of that guy? He's in, I think he's in a South American country. But, like, he has a healing center where, like, they just, people just show up and they do the healing stuff. Cool. Here I think there's a difference. You might be able to say, kind of off, back to where we're, you know, I'd be okay with someone saying, I really feel God wants me to play soccer, rather than saying definitively, God wants me to play soccer. Right, right. There's probably a distinction in someone, like, being that certain of what God wants. When he has taken the time to document direction in, say, the Bible, and it feels like, well, I'm adding something that's not in there, but is in addition to through me because I know what God wants. Right, because if it was that easily understood, then the Bible would be irrelevant.

Exactly. There would be no reason for an omniscient, you know, being, you know, to have basically a guidebook for your life. If it was going to be, you know, that quick of an interchange, there'd be no faith involved. You know, it'd be just like, here, here's the deal. I got my hourly text from God. Oh, it looks like I'm doing this now. Right. I'm going this way. I'm moving. I'm the pawn today. Tomorrow, I'm the piper. There's no accountability. There's no help from fellow believers. You're just on your own. You're the, you're the, you're the, you're the, you're the master. You don't have to show any character. You don't have to show any, you know, ambition towards God or, or, you know, faith in what he's doing because you're just being told you're a puppet. Well, how did the Lord create a world of puppets? Well, and I guess that, that leads to, if, if it were a world of puppets, why, why take the time to provide Jesus as an example? You know, if people were going to do. Yeah, why force your own son to go through a gruesome death just for that? Yeah. Why, why set out a, a, a biblical, a Bible for us to follow if we're not going to do, if we don't have the choice to do what we want to do anyway.

You know, but, but, but, but, I mean, doesn't that make the, the discussion about the, the chess game problematic? Because, I mean, is it fair to say that God's moving us around and moving pieces around? Or, I mean, is it more accurate to say, look, we still have to be willing participants in the game. Right, right. I think sometimes God moves you and you don't even know he's moving you. But, but, but then, but, I mean, doesn't that say that, that you're not having, if you're not having the choice. Well, but I think it's whether you choose to do, like, like, it's, it's, it's a setting up the pens and you knock them down, right? Sometimes you, the pens are all set up and you don't participate and you gutter it. You know, and sometimes the Lord sets the pens up and you, you're paying attention and you knock them down. Like the situation, the Lord may set up the situation where, whether you choose to participate in his name, I think is probably more apt. Hmm. Thoughts? Yeah, I mean, I, I guess I always looked at it as, as, um, you know, God, God will do whatever he wants to do, but you have, you have got to be, I mean, you have to have the willingness to do it. Like I'm, I'm willing to, to have God move me. He's not going to just like move me without me saying I'm willing to, to be moved because otherwise, and he's, he's directing, if he's controlling my life, do I still retain the options that I'm supposed to be given is to follow him or not follow him? I mean, I think that, I guess I always, I always looked at the responsibility lies on

me to, to, well, but whether you accept what God has provided, whether you know Christ or not, the homeless guy that came up to you last week at the quick trip comes up to you anyway. You don't say like the Lord sets up the situation. You either choose, but, but I mean, is it, is it necessary to say he set up the situation? It's just, I mean, the guy happened to be there. He came up to me. It doesn't mean that God like physically chose him. He knew he would be there, but it doesn't have to be that God sent him to the quick trip. I've run into homeless people all the time. Right. Could be the whole providence of God thing that sometimes things would just happen and you don't know if it was just happening or if God really put them there in your path for a purpose. Right. And you don't always know. I mean, it could be both or either. Yeah. You know, I suppose if you're, if you're working, if you're working for Jesus, like you're supposed to be, it doesn't really matter. Right. Right. That's why the Matthew 28 says, as you go, make disciples. It really doesn't say go. It says, as you go in the, in the Greek. The point is, as you live your daily life, what you do make disciples.

I think that's where it's important to, to not be so much concerned about what big thing is going to happen. You know, it is because if you're going about your business, whether, whether it was sent to you or whether it just happens to be everyday life, regardless of what steps you're taking, as long as every step you're taking, you're trying to work it for God. God, like that can't fail. It doesn't, it becomes irrelevant as to how that situation came up to you. It doesn't fail. If you're living for God in the moments that you're living, uh, it doesn't matter either way how those came about. And then you're just, if you're living for God and you're constantly open, there's just stuff flowing at you that you can pick up and work for God on. And then God can send stuff your way. Uh, and it's, it's irrelevant whether you, if you're always willing those, there's no more distinction about what caused that particular event.
