Segments
- Show open and bathroom-humor bit 0:10–2:11
The episode opens with the standard intro from the Pathway Studios in Johnston. A host jokes that a regular churchgoer, Shelly Carson, turns the show off as soon as bathroom humor starts — which she has already missed by seconds. The hosts also note that musical guest Double J is in the studio and preview the night's topics.
- Saul in the cave and the '2nd John' jokes 2:11–4:38
A host reads a children's Bible account of Saul chasing David into a cave and jokes about how it sanitizes the biblical detail that Saul went in 'to do his business' (1 Samuel 24). This launches a running gag about 'going 2nd John' as a bathroom euphemism, with homeschool-potty-training humor. The bit sets the evening's tone of scripture-informed silliness.
- Tonight's agenda preview 4:38–7:50
The hosts preview the night's topics: how Christians should love people they find irritating, the Point of Grace Church daycare story in the news, a four-year-old preacher video they plan to watch, and a discussion of Christian 'vices' like drinking, smoking, and foul language — including whether listing them is pharisaical.
- Double J introduced, planking bit 7:50–10:42
Double J, a Christian rap artist, is introduced as the in-studio guest. The hosts recount first meeting him at the Spirit Midwest Music Festival, where he was planking on the band Saved on Sunday. One host planks on the studio table while Double J explains the rules of planking.
- How Double J got into Christian rap 10:43–15:08
Double J says he wrote music as a kid and that at about age 13 he heard the group Cross Movement and felt God was calling him to rap. He describes years of treating it as a hobby before deciding around 2009, after graduating, to pursue it as a career. His first-ever performance was an impromptu freestyle at a talent competition in Merle Hay Mall, where he reached the finals.
- Double J's online presence and gig circuit 15:08–18:50
Double J lists his pages (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, ReverbNation) and says he tours opening for bands like Pierce in the Darkness and Saved on Sunday, having recently opened for Remedy Drive in Grinnell. He plays youth groups, camps, and youth rallies, and jokes about his surprisingly warm reception from elderly audiences. The hosts riff on marketing his rap to seniors as an exercise-video niche.
- 'Let the Beat Rock' performance 18:50–22:33
Double J performs his upbeat song 'Let the Beat Rock,' which he describes as the song meant to show that Christians can have fun. It is the first of two songs he plays live in the studio this episode.
- Album release, merch, and upcoming shows 22:33–28:52
After the song, Double J says he gets his beats from shadowville.com while learning to produce his own music. He says his album Generation at War will soon be on iTunes and Amazon, that he sells hard-copy CDs and shirts at shows, and lists upcoming dates including Brand Assembly of God on September 21, a fifth-quarter party in Grinnell on September 23, and a show in Indianola. The hosts debate physical CDs versus digital and tease him about being stingy with free merch.
- Tent revivals, crowd work, and beatboxing 28:53–37:56
Double J talks about doing a tent revival with Saved on Sunday at Eagle Vision, names his favorite recent show (opening for Remedy Drive in Grinnell), and says he prays before performing and works to get the crowd involved, modeling himself on Toby Mac and Lecrae. The conversation turns into a long beatboxing comedy bit ('boots and cats,' 'pancakes and syrup') and a suggestion that he record ringtones.
- Sponsor: Iowa Computer Repair 37:56–40:38
The show's sponsor segment for Iowa Computer Repair (iowacomputerrepair.com) and Ed Snuffin, who built the show's broadcast computer that handled two days of festival broadcasting plus HD rendering without trouble. The hosts joke about needing a jingle and work in a beatboxing bit.
- Hard question: loving people you don't like 40:38–51:36
The hosts take up the announced question: what is a Christian's responsibility toward people they find irritating or can't get along with? They conclude love doesn't require best-friendship — it means looking out for someone's best interest, striving for peace with everyone (Hebrews 12), and not being a jerk. One host admits he avoids some churchgoers he is 'cut out of a different sheet' from, and they discuss being cordial without faking closeness, boundaries for protecting one's family, and a past Facebook debate on forgiving without being obligated to forget.
- Fear of man and cowardice in witnessing 51:36–54:00
Prompted by the chat, the hosts discuss the 'fear of man' — the refusal to engage the world for Christ, whether with non-Christians or with Christians who need confrontation or repentance. They recall concluding on a prior show that cowardice in passing on the faith, including dumbing it down, is one of the biggest dangers to the perpetuation of true faith. They agree you can tell the truth without being obnoxious.
- What is a watered-down gospel? 54:01–55:44
Answering a chat question, the hosts define a watered-down gospel as one that pulls back from God's sovereignty and the depth of grace — preaching Jesus as savior while leaving out lordship, repentance, and change. One summarizes it as 'Jesus is your savior, but he doesn't have to be your lord; you just squeeze a hand and go on with your life.' They add that diminishing the depth of our sin also waters down the gospel, since grace means nothing without it.
- Mid-show announcements 55:44–57:15
The hosts plug the weekly Monday 10pm–midnight show, the website, podcast, Blip TV, Facebook, and YouTube, and mention Will It's song 'Machine' from the Spirit Midwest festival. They announce that Jess and Jordan Anderson will hopefully return to the studio in September with a new album.
- 'Generation at War' introduction 57:15–58:31
Double J introduces the title track of his album, Generation at War, saying it represents what he lives for. He says the first two verses are based on the real stories of two youth he has met — one tempted by drinking, drugs, and peer pressure, another dealing with family trauma — and that the song is about finding God's love instead of being at war with the world.
- 'Generation at War' performance 58:31–1:02:57
Double J performs 'Generation at War' in full, including the repeated chorus 'Dear God, if you're out there, show me that you do care… Is your grace enough?'
- Post-song banter 1:02:57–1:07:30
After a break, the hosts recap the night, praise the SuperDaw band and its lead singer Brandon, and admire Double J's Generation at War t-shirt design. Running jokes continue about the Jonathan-and-David friendship and about Titus wanting to be Paul's sidekick — including the reminder that Paul wrote a letter to Titus. They note Double J's performances will be on YouTube within 24–48 hours.
- 'By the grace of God I am what I am' 1:07:30–1:15:37
A host reads 1 Corinthians 15:10 ('By the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain') and the group reflects on how Christians wait to become someone impressive before serving God, when God wants to use them as they are. They discuss Hebrews 11's flawed heroes, Noah, King Saul's wasted potential, and Moses holding out his staff without knowing what would happen — God gives the next step, not the whole plan. The takeaway: stop praying to become someone else and let God use the person you are.
- Atheist convention comment and prayer room 1:15:37–1:21:51
A host reads a profane YouTube comment from 'Midnight Rhino' on their year-old atheist-convention discussion, and the group critiques its spelling, grammar, and name-calling while defending their even-handed treatment of atheists. They recount holding a quiet 24-7 prayer room during the national atheist convention in Des Moines rather than debating attendees. The segment closes with a story about a misleadingly captioned video of Michelle Bachman at a music festival — people hear what they want to hear.
- Point of Grace daycare story and covenant 1:21:51–1:23:32
Reading from a KCCI story, a host explains that Point of Grace Church in Waukee took over management of Happy Time Daycare to create the Point of Grace Children's Academy, fired the existing staff, and asked them to reapply and sign an eight-point Christian lifestyle covenant. He reads the full covenant aloud: fidelity in marriage or abstinence if single, no homosexual conduct, no pornography, no alcohol abuse, no foul language, regular church attendance, no behavior raising questions about one's testimony, and a commitment to a life pleasing to God and directed by the Holy Spirit.
- Daycare covenant debate: legalism or reasonable standard? 1:23:33–1:44:30
The hosts debate the covenant at length. One side says the standards are biblical and any Christian employer has the right to set them — parents paying for a Christian daycare expect Christian staff, and teachers are held to a higher standard (James 3). The other side says the detailed list 'smacks' of pharisaism: it reads as a checklist God doesn't use, invites employees to live up to a manager's interpretation rather than God's, and could have been replaced by a simple commitment to follow the Holy Spirit. They agree the church did nothing nefarious but handled the rollout poorly enough to land in the news, closing with 'we will not be opening a daycare.'
- Promos and the donkey-shirt story 1:44:30–1:47:42
The hosts read show promos (Monday nights, website, podcast, newsletter, merch). One recounts wearing the show's donkey shirt at a Knoxville McDonald's, where a stranger asked about the 'donkey festival' and ended up discussing his Cowboys for Christ rodeo ministry — a possible future guest for September or early October.
- Cowboy Church and the patriotic skit 1:47:42–1:49:56
Continuing the cowboy theme, the hosts describe a Cowboy Church service seen at a fair — a rider on horseback preaching with a headset mic — and a 15-to-20-minute patriotic arena skit with a talking American flag that 'creeped out' one host. The advice: keep patriotic skits under 25 minutes.
- The four-year-old preacher video 1:49:56–1:58:02
The hosts finally play the viral video of Cannon, a four-year-old who 'preaches' when the spirit moves him, along with a Today Show interview in which his parents say the hand of God is on him. The group finds the kid cute but argues he is just mimicking his dad with no exegesis, that putting him on a pedestal makes God look illegitimate, and that Scripture's standards for church leaders (1 Timothy, Titus) don't fit a toddler. They add that Israel's children entered the promised land precisely because they weren't accountable — which also means they're not in a position to lead.
- Outro 1:58:02–1:58:30
The hosts thank Double J, plug his Facebook, Twitter, and ReverbNation pages, and urge listeners to catch his live shows, buy the CD, and get the shirt. The show closes with the recurring bus joke.

Live from the Pathway Studios in Johnston proper You are live from the path And you're listening to Live from the Path My name is Ben Foo Thanks for being here tonight You can't see anything yet That's us right there It's a It's not really balmy in here No it isn't It's actually pretty nice I mean it's been balmy in here before But I don't know The tides are changing in here It's nice It's going to be a nice night And I tell you what We got a ton of stuff going on here Live from the Path Double J's in studio He's going to be getting on his business Here in the studio We're going to hear a couple tunes from him What? Getting on his business What's the matter with you? I think of bathrooms Oh Hey man Not in the studio We have a guy We have two bathrooms here We have some people that started going to our church With the last name of Bosco John Bosco John Bosco John I keep thinking I keep wanting to call him Gospel John And I don't know I've been reading through the Gospel of John You know And so every time I see him I think Gospel John I don't know if that That's cool Yeah I think they'd be alright with it What does that have to do with bathrooms? I was trying to veer off the subject Shelly Carson will listen to the show I'm trying to get you back She's already gone I've listened
So we have a gal that goes to our church That listens to the show Yeah And as soon as we start mentioning anything to do with bathrooms She shuts it off She said two weeks ago we made it all the way through the whole show She watched the whole thing She's dedicated to watch the entire show until bathroom humor shows up She's already off And then she cuts it She's gone Okay Can I Text us Text us if you're on Can I beg for a five minute toilet break? Because check this out So here's I was reading the Ergimeyer's children's Bible thing to my daughter And so they were talking about the story when David is at Or Saul is hunting after David Oh yeah And so And David's got all those guys kind of holed up back in the back of this cave And Saul goes in there And the real Bible says he goes in there to do his business He's taking a number two Okay I assume it's a number two Because otherwise I don't know He wouldn't be better now Okay It's in the Hebrew I mean it really is What's the Hebrew for number two? I don't recall I just remember reading that going Oh I guess they're pretty serious That's what he's doing So anyway But the Ergimeyer It puts out this kid's Bible And the way he puts it is Saul was very tired from his long day of chasing David So stopped to take a rest in the cave And I thought that seemed unnecessary to edit out Saul using the bathroom in the cave Yeah that's lame That's a great diaper talk time right there See even Jesus people use the potty I mean you know What kind of kid do you got that's refusing to use the potty based on gospel grounds? Well I don't know
I would put biblical potty etiquette in the book of John Is that 1st John or 2nd John? Oh I had too many bread and fish Do you have to go 1st John or 2nd John? You've got to go 2nd John Mommy I've got to go 2nd John That's when you know you're the homeschool tutor When they say I've got to go 2nd John Let me go Man too bad my kids are too old for that Now listen here chat I'll be an awesome grandpa The Bible didn't add something in trivial That's the appropriate description Saul was in there to do his business It's part of the story Yeah You're pretty vulnerable Yeah I mean I mean you know That was the point You lay down your sword There's no guards Or you know you're kind of private David could kill him And that was the whole point Is that David had the opportunity to kill him But chose not to And then showed him the cloth that he had swiped off And said look man I could have killed you but I didn't Quit listening to the people that are saying I'm going to kill you That's right That would have been a terrible way to go Oh man Go in Gospel 2 Gospel John 2 You'll never guess what happened 2nd John We'll be a 3rd John I mean That's the problem Alright it's the problem Alright hold it back Alright alright alright So anyway you're listening live from the past So we got So coming up We're going to hear from Double J We're also going to talk about Whether
In Christian love How do you handle people you just don't like What is your responsibility as a guy Trying to love people like Christ loves people And I don't know Like what do you How do you do Because you have to There's a There's a basics of love there You love charity All that stuff's got to be going on But I mean realistically What if you just don't get along with these folks How do you love the unlovable Yeah Well not even the unlovable But the downright irritating Can we use names Because that would be great Yes When the time comes Use a slant rhyme Yeah I met a man His name was Pike Roost He gave me trouble Wait a minute That sounds like my food No You guys Also We're going to talk a little bit about There was a The Point of Grace Church had They were in the news over the last few weeks About a daycare happening Where they had They had a daycare that was meeting in their building And then They were taking over the daycare And in the process of doing so They canned everybody And said look You're going to have to reapply for your job Which is pretty standard on a business takeover Oh yeah And then to say Look you've got to sign these principles Examples of Christian living To work in our Christian daycare And I've heard a lot of commentary on this
Over the past few weeks And I thought we'd just kind of run through it real quick And maybe Maybe take a sniff at it Because what I hear is a lot of strong Verbose chatting On either side of the deal And I think I think ultimately They may be missing the appropriate perspective Which is obviously coming from me And so We'll talk about that We'll see where you land And we'll find out where I land And ultimately Hopefully we can figure out where Where Jesus would land And also I don't know if we'll have time I want to look at that That kid preacher Remember that kid preacher video We looked at Oh no There's this What was he for Dan I believe I think the video is of him at four It was like this four year old Evangelist kid Like running around the stage I've got to preach He was making a total John 3 Out of himself It's a problem And so if we have time If we have time We'll pick up this video And we'll watch it And we're going to talk about that And why generally speaking We ought to be concerned about that Yeah I'm very concerned with it Yeah And I thought we had one other thing What was it? Are we talking about the vices? Oh yes Well and I think maybe that'll come up In the context of that daycare discussion We want to talk about Christian vices
We stuck on this a few weeks back a little bit Or maybe it was last week But we're going to talk about Things like drinking, smoking Using foul language Bummer Yeah We talked it in the context of Causing your brother to stumble And maybe where our line is at there But also maybe in the context of Is it pharisaical In the way some people use it Like the adding of Taking what God's principle is What the biblical principle is And then adding on to it When that makes sense Maybe when it doesn't make sense Maybe some things to watch out for On either side of it So I think that's probably where We'll end up on that thing So we'll be talking about that Is that solid for everybody? I love it Who's this guy though? Which way are you looking? Hold on Hold on let me see where he is Who's Yeah that's him Who's this guy? This is Double J Double J Yeah Welcome to the program Thank you Alright so Double J You are a Snuggle up to the mic there You're a You're a hip hop artist How do you refer to it? I am a Christian rap artist Pretty much what it is What did I say Or a planker He is a planker I'm both That's a different subject The first time we met this cat He's planking on people
He's hanging out We're at the Spirit Midwest Music Festival And I think we're talking to Saved on Sunday And on our Facebook page You can go out and check out the picture But Double J over here Is planking on the entire band Sitting on our green couch At the festival And I remember this I remember this moment distinctly Because Saved on Sunday Gets on the stage And we're going to do an interview And then all of a sudden He goes rolling up there And I said Ben what's wrong with that guy? Where's our security? And Ben goes I don't know What's he doing? He's planking I'm like well He looks like he's just laying there He's like yeah that's planking That's what it is I'm like planking is just laying there Yeah It's not just laying there Alright there are specific rules You have to follow When you plank something Alright let's have it Oh you want to hear that Go ahead tell me It's very specific You have to lay face down Body completely straight Hand straight Feet straight And you gotta lay totally still Emotionless Do you go out or No it's arms at the side Can you plank on this table? How did you get into Christian rapping? People ask me that a lot Like that's like the main question I get Like how did you get into rap? You know You're a white dude How did you get into this? I took one look at it I thought Rapper So I don't know why people are asking that Okay now hold on The premise isn't because you're a white fella Just generally speaking It is You don't run in You run into a lot more guys That think they can play the guitar Than guys that think they can rap Yeah Because it's kind of a People can pick out if you Stink at rapping Way quicker than they can pick out Whether you stink at the guitar True So
How did you get into it? I don't care that you're white Go ahead You know I mean I always wrote music as a kid And I don't know what happened I don't know I really can't really pinpoint exactly what happened But at like age 13 I heard I think I heard I think the band was Cross Movement I believe And ever since that day It was like it clicked Like God told me like Rapper I'm like what? No I can't I can't do that But you know Years go by And this is where we are Very cool Yeah It's pretty intense That's It's pretty intense I don't know if you guys caught the intensity of that story That makes me feel like planking I'm gonna go out planking tonight So what was the first gig you ever did? Oh man The first gig I actually did was at Merle Hay Mall Actually up the road And I was at a convention Here in Iowa And we went to the mall for lunch And there was a talent competition going on In like the middle of the mall Uh huh Where the It goes around the top Balcony on the floor Where they used to have that big statue That looked like a The wheelie by The unicyclist with the wings Yeah Did you remember that guy?
Yeah It's a tricycle Maybe That may have been gone by the time you were in there Go ahead Sorry Yeah It was like a talent It was like a talent thing going on And my friends were like Dude you should do it And I'm like no I can't They'll stare at me And they'll laugh at me And stuff But they ended up Stealing my CD And making me do it anyway And I did it And I made it to the finals Of the The talent competition I ended up losing But that's a sore subject But like that was That was my Did you tell us how you felt that day? It was sad It was sad I cried a little inside Did you go to second jaunt? Not outside because I'm a man Yeah Did I what? That's gonna be a problem It's alive Wow Well I don't know That's kind of a big That's kind of a big first jaunt Yeah I know right You know what I'm saying Of like stuff to get involved with Just to be out there In a talent competition At rate Now what did you perform? Well actually It wasn't even a song That I've written Because I didn't write back When I first started
I was just like Freestyle all the time So I'm just like I guess I'll play track three And I'll just go So And like when I started There was like 30 people Just kind of sitting there And by the time I had walked up there I'm pretty sure Me Saying that I was gonna rap Had captured a lot of attention Because I looked up And the entire balcony Was like full of people Oh man And like shoppers were like Walking and looking And like double taking And stopping And I was nervous Because I'd never Performed before Yeah Interesting day Man That's kind of cool though That's intense You know what Yeah I'm telling you You know what That was intense It gets me So I mean After that Did you feel After you were done with that Did you feel like You know what Yeah I think I can Make a run Yeah I mean definitely You did that Everyone starts clapping You're like wow I think I'm on to something here Because up to that point It had kind of been More of a hobby I hadn't quite made the decision
To pursue it as a You know a full time career Yep I actually didn't make that decision Until around 2009 When I finally graduated And I finally started Being able to Perform on the regular Yep So like up until that point It was kind of like A dream come true almost That like I finally Achieved What I wanted to achieve In music Very cool So People want to check out More information about you Where would I Where would I send them Oh man I'm online everywhere You can go to Oh man I'm worldwide I'm everywhere You look underneath Your seat at your couch I'm there I might have hit A business card there You don't know I'm the face on the toilet paper Actually Not to drag us back In that arena again But if you said Hey man I found some Double J on the couch That might I would think A sandwich Go ahead Oh man No Okay Inner T Alright we're good I'm on I'm on Facebook At

I usually do Like I'm very happy to know That a lot of people that I go to Give me positive feedback And a lot of old people Give me positive feedback Oh wait Would you define old Please? All these guys Yeah When you I mean You're what About 25 28 32 20 I'm 20 20 Same here So Anyway So when you think of old Like when you get up to 30 That's getting kind of I'm talking like 60's Like people in their 60's
Yeah Do they like dance And I've seen a little head bob Every now and again How does a 60 year old Dance to rap Can you show us That'd be great Did you have any of that on YouTube? I don't have any of that I should though Come to think of it I should probably record some of that You know That's a big market out there The elderly Yeah You could do an exercise video And they would buy it And they'd all be rapping Like we're doing what the cool people do And do some stuff with walkers Can you do what I'm just doing there That's a cane work Like I'm holding a broom this way And I can't see I think you're onto something Do anything with it How many other rappers are doing that? My beats I actually get from A third party website Called shadowville.com Right now it's just A reasonable way For me to get music Because I'm trying To learn how To produce my own stuff Sure But it's a complicated process I could do it for you No you couldn't Don't trust me Don't trust him I'll make you a deal I'm a little scared Of that thought Those eyebrows tell lies
That keeps you on edge Which makes you A better musician I thought that I thought that the change The change was the Coolest part You know Like it came You know It was rocking along And then It was like the breakdown And then it showed up Like super fast The freestyle part It was pretty awesome I appreciate it Mike that commentary Was awesome I can't do it Otherwise I'd be Sitting in his chair And people would Want me on their show I had to start my own show For me to get over Nobody wants to talk to me I'll do it I'll talk to myself It's not worldwide So yeah It was very cool Lots of positive thoughts From the chat too Thank you Yeah they're all over it Yeah it really dug on it Yeah so do you have What do you got out there For music people Can hear or buy As of right now My Facebook is the way to go It's got three songs From the album You can go in And check them out In a matter of a few weeks All my new album Generation of War Should be on iTunes iTunes, Amazon
All that Trying to get all the details Worked out But very soon It should be up On all those websites Just check my fan page On a regular basis And the updates will be there So now you're planning On having Any hard copies available Or pretty much digital I actually have I do have hard copies already I've been doing those For about a month and a half now Doing them at my shows Just kind of giving them away Not giving them away But you know Selling them No I heard it Flag that tape But yeah But yeah Like for a while But I'm trying to move Into the digital Because everyone's like Doing the digital thing So might as well Hop on the bandwagon Maybe I'm the only one Like I want a hard copy of stuff I know I'm kind of Like that I saw you And then I took it from your hands And then we talked about it You know Like it irritates me When people go You know Where they don't ever have Any hard stuff And they're like Well you need to go visit My website I'm like I have to do more work for this I'm saying I like your show
Can you take my money Will you please No no no I want you to go somewhere else And take the money I'm like I'm kind of the same boat I like to actually have The physical copy of the person Because I don't know It's different It's a different field And like Oh I got a file Plus it's a lot easier For me to share it Like you know We've gotten a lot of CDs From a lot of To pirate is what you're saying To hand it out to other people Without paying for it Pirating really I'm not selling you my CD To let them listen to it Because if they dig on it They'll buy it Or they'll just borrow yours again I will not let them do it I just want them to get a taste of it And deprive Double J Of goods and services That belong to him That is not the case I'm going home now You're going to stay Fine I'll stay I turn the air on You're staying Your dad enjoyed the performance What? Good work My dad? What up daddy? How you doing? Thanks dad I'm taking this opportunity To give a shout out to my daddy I love you He also likes that shirt I like my shirt That's the Double J shirt right there The official generation at war t-shirt
You have shirts too? I do have shirts I'm wearing it right now I tried to get a free one from him But he wouldn't put it up What does it say? He's a good businessman The shirt actually The album is called Generation at War And the at is actually an at sign Do you have shirts on you? Is that like war paint? I mean like a paintball? Well not that one Dan will buy them from you On the church's budget for me They're in my car You can actually buy an album too Because I have them Dan we got to spread the gospel You can get your hard copy You can get your hard copy Of my album It's in my car Dan? Actually You distract him I'll go out there I have to go 2nd John I'll be Might be a while So I can find your keys We have to acquiesce to the ladies on the chat If you could back up from the microphone a little bit They'd like to take a gander at your shirt My shirt Now can they order the shirt through your website? Not yet I'm working on that as well It's just a matter of time To getting things figured out But right now This is just a good excuse to come to my shows These are exclusive If you haven't noticed You need to come to the show So what do you got coming up next? As of right now I have a few things That are kind of in the middle stages Are you kidding me? You pushed us through your show
And you're not going to have one In the near future? I am It's kind of up in the air Hey I have a few up in the air I didn't say You didn't let me finish my sentence Okay I'm sorry Sir We invited you to Pathway Church Say his piece I'm sorry go ahead I like the way he handles himself Give me the specifics Of where I can go Alright I'm trying to think here No no no I'm sorry The pressure Give the talent some room I need everybody to clear the room Let me think I need to get my calendar out I will bring a busload of people To the next specific date you have Go ahead sir You better promise that Go ahead Thank you promise Where is it at? If you don't have a bus Tell me where it is Oh I got a bus Oh you got a bus? Oh snap Can I borrow that bus? You tell me where it's going to be And I'll bring it I'm going to be at Brand Assembly of God Dang Doing a youth A youth kind of kick off For the school year On the 21st of September I also got Something coming up In Grinnell, Iowa On the 23rd of September Doing a fifth quarter Kind of football party
Kind of thing And I have something Coming up in Indianola As soon as well But the date is still Kind of up in the air I'll learn that Dang that's the one I wanted to attend Well I'll call you You'll get a phone call Hey by the way You're check bounced For that shirt and CD Can I have my CD back? Unfortunately You're going to have to get A digital copy I'm coming to pick it up At 8 You're going to pick it up On iTunes I've already loaned it out I pirated it It's everywhere I'm going to steal your bus And I'm going to go pick it I'm going to take you But officer His check bounced I'm going to read A little John Second John In your bus I'm bringing the fourth John You don't give me my money Like you That's That's revelation That's big trouble You don't want to come Upon the revelation We're getting on The genesis Something not good If you show up To my house On a horse called Pestilence I'm going to freak out Where's Morningwood? I'll ride a midget horse To your house
Alright On that note No I don't think So either This is not right Leave me alone What? Oh Also setting up And so you're still In the middle of it But it sounds like Saved on Sunday And Double JB Heading out At the start of the year Start making the rounds Kind of around the nation Are you taking the tent? What? Oh the tent? You in the tent with them? What? What? Huh? I'm going to Texas News to me I'm just kidding No yeah You almost ruined a surprise Dang He was going to unveil that I was going to We chatted earlier With T and stuff We talked about it That's the one I was going to go to When did we have T? I missed the T So have you done One of the tent shows Was saved on Sunday? Down at Eagle Vision I don't know They just say They set up a tent And we like it Yes I did go down I did do a little tent Tent revival Did you sleep there?
I didn't sleep there It's a different tent What was it So what's been your favorite Performance so far? Like your favorite venue To be in Oh man Like venue? Probably tonight Yeah I agree with him That's pretty fun Don't ever agree with Damien It's a good thing We opened the doors So the ego has room I like this young man This is fantastic That's a hard question To answer Like my favorite performance Because I've I've done a lot Of good ones But I mean recently I'm everywhere Hold on Hold on Don't be taking this The wrong way I tell you I'm walking places They just fall up my feet I've done a lot of great things I've done so many great things What's the greatest thing I've ever done Who could say? There are so many Let me rephrase a little bit Let me break out my scroll And see how many great things Are available No I don't mean By me in general I mean like The atmosphere The crowd There have been a lot Of really fun performances I've done But like recently
I mean the one With Remedy Drive That I did this last Friday In Grinnell Was one of my favorites Because just like The atmosphere Was just so cool And I just being able to Just you know The thought of like Because I like this band I'd listened to this band For a long time And the fact that I'd be opening for them And doing it 25 You know 25 minutes So I condensed like An hour of my cardio Into like 20 minutes So I like went crazy And I just had a ton of fun So like recently That's one of my favorites Now does it feel Ugh I was wondering Kind of the deal In this Because you're basically A solo artist Right So it seems to me Like it's got to be A little different Going out there Like on your own Like there's not a band You know behind you Or you know Like there's tunes Coming from somewhere You know through the system And it's just you You know is there anything That you do I don't know To kind of I don't know Ease your Ease your nerves A little bit
Before you roll up there Man before I go on stage Like the one thing I like to do is pray Obviously Just like you know God used me To be you know An impact on somebody Because like When I go out there I try to not make it just me Like I try to get the crowd involved Because I want the crowd To be just as part of my performances As I am Because I mean That makes everybody leave happy Like a lot of Like when I watch rap A lot of times They go up there And they just kind of Walk around and rap And whatever That's what I do Like I like to shape myself Into guys like Toby Mac And like Lecrae Who I go out there And then I get the crowd involved On almost every song So like I try to make it That's how I kind of ease it Like you know Get the crowd involved So it's not really just me performing It's a team effort Sure So how long does it take Let's say you go to a youth group event It sounds like you do a lot of youth groups How long does it take Before the youth group Kind of breaks out And kind of like Gets involved Before they're not going like I wish the white guy doing rap I'm going to actually point on that Because like I actually wanted to start taking a camera On stage
Because when they're like Oh a rapper's going to be here And they say Double J And then they see this White dude with a Hollister polo Oh he's the warm up guy They're like When's Double J going to get here I want to take a photo Because like Their faces are priceless Like It's usually like They look at the friends like What? What? Sign up for this? It's hilarious Some preppy Kick Double J in the shins And ran out That's why I kind of like Let the beat rock first Because like That's like Hey I'm for real You know what You know how you should start Doing your shows Is let the beat rock And then get yourself A wireless mic And sit in the crowd And actually start rapping in there So like This is awesome And then when you walk up on stage Like they already dig it Before they even see your face And that way that's gone Like their preconceived notion Of the visual Is out You just ruined a surprise now Everyone's going to know I do that now You're going to It's going to be awesome Yeah there's He's true There's like 12 people That's actually a really cool idea though
Yeah Then they can feel it Like actually like Sit with them And like perform with them Yeah just act like You're jazzed about the show And you'll have a You'll have a microphone on you Like to the side And talk to a guy like I don't know man I haven't heard I've heard this guy's alright I'm not sure He loves Jesus though That's all I know Yes sir I hear he's everywhere Like oh my gosh I did Yeah And then the guy's like I don't know I just want to see him I don't really care for Jesus And you'll be like Here let's talk about Jesus first And then the show Will get postponed For like 20 minutes While you're talking to a guy About Jesus But whatever That's the point You just got extremely elaborate With that I'm going to come to your show Go and talk to people about Jesus I'm going to be that guy Hey I should be your opening act You look so much cooler after me That's all you should do You should hire me To show up and take the show Mike you and I Should go up on stage And start rapping You should start beatboxing No I want I want people to think he's better I don't want people to hate us
You should go up there And beat Dude you should beatbox for me Oh dude I can teach you How to beatbox What was that? That's it I just talked They say boots and cats Yeah boots and cats Dude that's like That's like Boots, cats, and washing machines Boots, cats, and washing machines Boots and cats Boots and washing machines Boots and cats And if you really If you want to get elaborate You can do Hey The breakfast beatbox Is my favorite Cause it's like Dude check it out It's like Pancake Pancake Pancake Like seriously Just go off that Go ahead Dan That was awesome Hey man I learned to beatbox off YouTube Alright I can get crazy But I'm not gonna do that That's awesome Pancake Pancake Sirup Sirup Pancake Donut Donut Nuncius Pancake Sirup That's the way That's why I'm the opening act I'm dirt cheap Mike I can just imagine you going on there
I'll pay you 25 cents And a Snickers Boots and cats Boots and cats Boots and cats Pancake Sirup Why you gotta say it like a Why you gotta say it like a Like a Transylvanian janitor Boots and cats Boots and cats Boots and cats So watch the machine I'm coming to your town Do it Come to a town near you That's why I have to have the bus I gotta bring the crowd with me I'm beatboxed beautiful What's my name What's your name What do you think I'm trying to do the Well the breakfast was successful So I was just thinking Ham Ham Do the pancake and serve thing Go You sound like you're hyperventilating Can you do the hum and click I don't think I can There's no reason to do that That sounds like my alarm clock going off By an airport It's time to get up I'll sit in your window and be like Who's that? That's Double J Double J I need to record a ringer for me Actually that's a good idea You should do a set of ringtones Yeah That would be awesome I would download the ringer You know what I've been trying to learn how to like talk Like people who can like rap Like people who can like rap and beatbox Like at the same time They're ridiculous
Oh my gosh I've seen the guy who does the hum and click thing And can sing a song during it I kind of want to cry Like I watch it It's like I just want to like Spread tears of joy I'm just like Boots, cats, and pancakes I can't like do it at the same time It just doesn't make Cats, boots, and cakes Don't put the pancakes in it yet Just do the boots and cats Boots and pancakes Cat, cat, cat Cat, cat syrup, boots I think I heard something about cat syrup I don't know I'm going to tell you something It's the best show we've ever done It's the best one The ratings are skyrocketing We should make this into a movie Like in a world Four, four, four, way Lift five, guys The land Of life from the path One day Hey, take him with you There was a donkey Yeah, you can have him And double J Honey, who's that outside the window? It's boots and cats Boots and cats Boots and cats That's like the Shrek theme song Boots and cats Boots and cats Okay, you're going to do a Live from the Path beatbox Before you get out of here We're going to use it for a promo It's going to be solid Okay Speaking of Is there more tunes? I didn't write any tunes Do you have more tunes? I don't have anything I have one more
Yeah, he's got one more What time is it? 10.38 No, we better hold off on it We've got time What else? Hold on Hey, calm it down That's a way to introduce something That ain't going to happen, Mike Well, no one tells you The way to get the hopes up, buddy Smooth minds That's why we're not allowed On legitimate radio Boots and cats I don't know It's time for our sponsor Oh, yeah, yeah This segment brought to you by Iowa Computer Repair That's iowacomputerrepair.com Is your computer giving you trouble? Yeah, it is Mine's getting kind of slow and cranky You can't stand mine Is it full of viruses? I'm probably sure Would it be viral? Has your teenage daughter put a bunch of kittens and stuff in the background that you can't get rid of? With bubbles? Yes That was actually me That would be Totally more Has double J been in your computer? We're broadcasting And it didn't bog down one bit Yeah, yeah And the folks at Iowa Computer Repair Ed sat down with us And I said, look, here's what we need And he went through And he picked out each individual part And said, here's what you gotta do This is gonna get you set up You're gonna be in great shape And we have been And so, in all seriousness Do check out iowacomputerrepair.com If you're looking to buy one If you're looking to get one repaired You got problems I saw, I don't know the lady's name So this isn't a divulgence of personal information But when I was in there Some lady brought in her laptop And I think she had just not hit the start button Like, I was not sure how to turn it on Look at it It just sits there I saw Iowa Computer Repair got on Fixed that one right up Done and done Doesn't follow the voice commands In the door, out the door Turn on So anyway, iowacomputerrepair.com They need a jingle They need a song Iowa Computer Repair Maybe we should work on that Maybe that'll be a me and you project Mike, it's your job to deal with Dan Computer Repair He's already got He's already got rapping to the oldies on deck for next week I don't know what we're gonna do Flubbinisc Flubbinisc Flubbinisc Flubbinisc Flubbinisc Zeros and ones Zeros and ones This is beatboxing and binary Sorry Alright So
Yeah Anyway I'm trying to figure out We got time Alright, we're gonna have time We're gonna have this discussion So here's the deal Christian love Love between One guy following Christ and another So the question is What'd you say? Did I miss something? What? Hey See, now this is the problem, Dan You've been tainted by the culture Guys who get along Like David and Jonathan And Jesus and John You look at that And we shrink away at it Because we're like Dudes don't get along like that anymore Because the culture has ruined Friendly dudes I'm just saying I hope culture has ruined that Can we just Hold hands So here's the question though Here's the question As a As a guy following Christ You do have a responsibility To To make disciples Go out As you go Find people Try to bring them to Christ And part of that Is creating relationships With people The most effective way To bring someone to Christ Is to be able to share Your story Your relationship How you've been changed Yeah How Christ has changed you Yep
Exactly Alright So But then the question is Is that There are some irritating people Out there Oh man People you just don't Get along with Nope He responded awfully quick And he was looking Right at you You know what Go ahead with the question I like this guy His honesty just shines through I know exactly What you're talking about Even if I'm being put on I like it You'll be my Jonathan I see new Valentine's cards A whole new Wow Alright so anyway So the question is Is like What do you do What do you do You can't You can't get along With everybody Right Alright So But seriously When it comes to A potential barrier For witnessing people To Christ Like seriously What do you do People that just rub you The wrong way Do you fake it Because I mean Then you're putting on A false You're having to Really fake it That you get along
With these people I think it depends On which part of you You're trying to quell You know what I'm saying What part of you Are you trying to silence Your sinful I don't like people part Or like Or is it a godly love That It depends on Why you I don't know Like I've been in this I've been in this Situation a lot actually Like I have an affinity To be irritated By a large group of people Now I've been praying on it And it's been getting Slightly better But I'm certainly Not the greeter Like I don't stand In front of the church And shake hands And whatever That's just not my deal We've asked you not to That's a good idea Like it's just It's not my It's not my show Right But I don't know Like I feel like That like Like if you The Holy Spirit Will tug at you For people that Are willing to accept The gospel You know what I'm saying And the Lord won't lead you Somewhere that he won't Provide for you And so
If you're doing it Earnestly Then I don't know I think Obviously I think The Lord can use All barriers Whether you set them up Or whether man set them up And it's not an obstacle To God It's an obstacle to you And so if you're willing To hand it over It's willing to get solved So what if they already Know Christ And they're annoying Yeah Then Jesus loves them That's all it takes It's not your responsibility No more Yeah We're not called to be Everybody's best friend You know Do we love them Yes We care for their needs And love doesn't mean You know Right We're going bowling on Thursday Exactly It means I'm going to look out For your best interest Part of your best interest Might be us not hanging out together Right Honestly I mean that's kind of Maybe a twist of it Hebrews We've been going through that On Sunday mornings In chapter 12 One verse says that You know Strive for peace With everyone And it doesn't mean
You have to Let's say Go bowling And go hanging out All the time And be texting All day long It just means Just don't be a jerk to them If you don't like them Just avoid them That's what I do I do that currently There's Christians There's people that go to our church That we just We're just different We're cut out of a different sheet We just don't get along What if they don't recognize that Well then You don't have to You don't have to point that out I mean you don't have Well how are you Are they going to recognize That you're avoiding them I think it's easier to point it out You can be cordial I mean Look dude We don't get along And he's like But we do No Could we No we don't Could we try harder I don't know I don't think we're going to make it Fresh start If I buy you a t-shirt Can we hang out more Relationship propsies My t-shirt Nice We could bond over The WJ concert Let's go Get in the bus Build the bus No I just I just think we get
All worked up Over things like this And You know My family We've talked about this A lot through the years Because you know I'm like the pastor I'm supposed to like everybody I don't like everybody And My kids don't have to Like everybody We've always told our kids They need to Be cordial To people They need to Be inviting And welcome them And we don't want to We don't be the ones Who push them away from Jesus Because we're being Stuck up You know And we're all like Well we're better than you are Or even if we don't think We're better We just don't like you That's kind of a hard way To bring someone to Jesus I don't really like you But you need Jesus So go talk to someone else I don't like you Jesus does Yeah Jesus does He loves you He died for you I don't know why Because I wouldn't I don't know why You really wrote me The wrong way I mean there was A lot of other people in that He probably just kind of Got you on the peripheral But sometimes you just Suck it up and say
I'm going to spend A little bit of time With someone You might have something Where you spend Some time together You know In a class or something Or obviously Like a Sunday school class Or something Whatever You know And you just You suck it up sometimes But you don't have to Go fishing with them afterward Well yeah And I guess Maybe what I'm thinking Is that it's not necessary To be long term Best friends or anything Right But there probably is Because I mean The question would be About your own judgment For one You know Have you spent enough time Around someone To know that they're That you don't get along Yes And the question is Is baby Are you being a bit Shallow with your judgment No Mike They're bad people He's always talking About boots and cats I just can't figure it Here's the thing I've known people That I really Like when I meet them Or I talk to them I think I think I really need To talk to these people
About Jesus But I don't want them Anywhere near my family Like I seriously I don't want them Over at my house I don't want to talk To them Like on a Relationship basis Like but they need Jesus I know that I know that much And so I've I've had that situation Before where I've done The Jesus route Like we talk about Jesus You know And most people That I feel this way Are usually in a You know They're in the straits Of some kind You know They're having a real Hard time with life Or they're You know Things aren't going well So I generally Don't have to worry About it Because people who Think like that Are generally in a Very me Phase You know what I'm saying And as soon as They get the love Of Christ They're You know I mean If I got Jesus And you got Jesus There shouldn't be A whole lot That we're disagreeing on You know They're just
Vague personality Differences Which does keep us Out of the bowling alley But we still have A good level playing ground Because we should We should be able To agree on a ton Of stuff You know But I mean I've run into that Multiple times Where I've met somebody And I've talked to them About Christ But I'm like You know Don't be showing up At my house Drunk at 2 a.m. You know That's not the way This is going to go down I'm more than happy To talk to you About a lot of things But like I can't have What you have going You know Show up at my house Because I just can't I just can't It's not safe You know And I can't handle that Like we're not We're not buddies like that For the last 10 years Where I've seen You through the good And the bad And I know that You eventually Wouldn't hurt my family No matter what state You're in You know I just don't know you Well enough To make that commitment
You know That I would do For a friend That I've known forever A person I just met That really does need Jesus But not at the detriment Of my family Or my walk with Christ For that matter Mike you stared me down That entire time You're not sleeping At my house Troy You were fixated on me That entire time Like don't show up At my house At 2 o'clock in the morning Drunk I'm like I'm not going to We have couches here You can spend the night If Mike doesn't let you I'll be honest Be careful Double J's planked On that couch We need to do some planking again Because I got the camera working But that's beside the point Sorry I was just brewing your conversation I consider the planking That Ben did The worst part of radio That we've ever done Why? Within the best show That we've ever done Why? It just wasn't interesting Planking? The flying J said it was great Yeah he says that to everybody He likes Dan That's true Some of us have good taste It's alright He wears boots Well I've been trying to not call him Flying J all night
I thought I better just do it Than get it out of the way Wait why? Like the truck stop Oh my gosh It would be cool They had pancakes and syrup there It would be pretty cool though If you had like a Like a guy that goes with you That also like You know is the supportive rapper Behind you The main guy And his name was truck stop That would be pretty cool Flying J and truck stop I'm just saying it would be cool I'd make some cool shirts too I don't do rapping The chat brings up a good point About the fear of man thing Like we've talked about that before Right? Not only with your With talking to other people Who don't know Christ About Christ But talking to people Who claim to know Christ And that just need to be called To some type of responsibility Or repentance Or you know Challenging them on On how they're living And how it's not stacking up Actually we've talked about that A lot about general cowardice Like people's refusal To even engage in the world That they live in for Christ In whatever manner There should be Either with Christians Non-Christians Or whatever The I planted and I kept my own Jesus farm And it looks nice I don't really like to travel Beyond my acreage
Right Type of mainframe And if I remember correctly Last time we talked about that We found it to be One of the biggest dangers And the lack of perpetuation Of true faith Is how cowardly We are about it In You know In passing it out In truth In not dumbing it down In not In not making it shallow In not Backing off The fierceness of His grace But also Not backing off You know How bad And how sinful we are And how much In need of that grace we are And kind of Just kind of Always just Just seed and ground Backing up farther And farther And farther Until we are Telling a very Bland story Which is not The story of Christ Right It is a watered down gospel And that is no good That is absolutely no good Because you can tell the truth Without being obnoxious You know And I think that is what people fear People fear They don't want to be The obnoxious Christian They don't want everyone To look at him
And say Here comes that Jesus fella again I hope he doesn't bring it up I don't really want to talk about it You know what I am saying Everything he has Reverts right back to Jesus All the time Well in truth Everything does revert back to Jesus But that is not the way You know You can say that Even when we sit down and talk You know We talk to each other all the time I don't say Jesus every five words You know I mean We talk about all kinds of stuff We talk about You know A sign And mowing the yard And moving stuff And picking things up And I don't know Building things New beds All kinds of stuff Picking things up You know I was thinking about Picking up a pair of socks And I thought I'll leave them on the floor It's like a manly conversation Yeah I was hanging out in my house The other day I just wanted to pick up my couch Hey Dan I was going to pick up my chair What do you think Yeah I'd pick it up Okay cool Then you can put it back down It's with Jesus Jesus Picked up bookcase the other day I don't know why Just kind of looked at me Pick me up
You know I think on the relationship thing If the thing that's keeping you from someone Is a forgiveness issue As a believer You need to suck it up You know And forgive them And move on And get that This still doesn't mean You need to like them It still doesn't mean I'll look at you too It doesn't mean you need to like them I feel like you're commenting On the Facebook strain That we had like nine months ago That was the forgive and forget thing That you completely schooled me on Whatever it is It's stuck with Spanglinger I'm awesome That's awesome Yeah Because I remember schooling you But I don't remember Well Someone had said something about When Your hair being funny About my hair being funny And I had said No Someone had said something about How they had a Friend That Kept doing the exact same things Over and over again To her And She didn't know She knew she needed to forgive her But she didn't know If she Should allow her To be Her friend anymore Or be around her family Because she wasn't a good influence And I Was just like
Well I completely agree With the whole forgive and forget thing Blah blah blah And went on and on and on And then you Posted right afterwards Saying Well you can forgive them But you by no means Have to forget And then went into this Long Facebook post Just bashing me In the face With just truth And I appreciated it Because it truly schooled me In a good way But I had never It was kind of like One of those Greg Brady moments Of gee dad I never thought of it Like that before And I really hadn't Because it It never occurred to me Of you know You don't have to Forget everything But you should forgive And I was like Wow I always heard the Forgive and forget thing And thought that was like Set in stone So Boom Yeah So thanks for the schooling You're welcome Appreciate it I love you Jonathan Jonathan You'll be my Jonathan In response to The question The chat question Which is
What is a watered down gospel I think Anytime we Start to To not lay on Full on the Sovereignty of Christ Maybe we're afraid That talking about The miracles of Christ Makes you seem wacky I think that's a Watering down of the gospel I think of Diminishing our own Our own sin Is a watering down Of the gospel Because without Understanding how The depth of our sin We do not understand The depth of the grace That we've been provided Like the whole reason For the Mosaic law Whatever So I don't know I think that tends to be And that last one Is the one that I think Tends to be the most problematic Is we make it If you're not a bad guy If you're generally good You know To be convinced That you need saving From your goodness Doesn't make sense Like part of it Is you have to accept The understanding Of what you are And the fallen person That you are So you can understand What it is that You're being You're being forgiven of The depth of the grace That you're being provided
And so I don't know That's when I think Of watered down gospel I think that's generally What I think of Is kind of You're pulling back From the sovereignty of God And the depth of the grace I would say it narrows down to Jesus is your savior But it leaves out the lordship Which is what you said I just kind of condensed That the whole lordship Lord covers a lot of stuff He doesn't have to be your lord You don't have to repent You don't have to change anything Yeah You just squeeze a hand And you go on with your life And not do anything It's like really You expect that You know In the garden That's what you think of And he walks with me And he talks But I don't have to do anything Except for when I'm Out in the garden And I can do whatever I want Jesus only lives in the garden Alright you've been listening To Live From The Path You can catch us every week Mondays 10 to midnight Here at LiveFromThePath.org Also if you go to the website You can sign up for our podcast You can get the audio podcast On Blip TV You can get the video cast And you can also find us On Facebook And on our YouTube channel Getting a lot of action There's some clips From that Spirit Midwest Music Festival

Pretty good Coming up at the end of the year Should have a lot of good stuff Coming up here at Live from the Path I tell you what Before we round out the hour Let's hear again from Double J Why don't you tell us a little bit About this next tune? This next song is the title track I mean it's the title track Of the album It's pretty much Everything that I'm about It's called Generation at War And the reason I call the album that Is because it represents What I live for And what I do What I do for Because there's a generation Out there right now Who is hurting Who is at war against themselves Who is at war against pressure Who is at war against pain Against you know Families being torn apart And the reason I do this Is to give them an opportunity To realize that there's Something more out there Because I was one of those people I was one of those guys Back in the day Who I didn't I didn't think love existed I really I was at the lowest lows And you know I was listening to all the rap music And all that And now I realize that Since I found God's love And I found what he can do in me I want to take that And let everyone else know That you know It happened to me And he can do it for you And you don't have to be at war anymore You can be on the winning side Of this war
Against all the things This world says Will make you happy And what really won't So that's what it's all about And this song actually is made The two verses of the song The first two are actually made Of two real stories From two youth That I've been able to encounter And it's kind of their story So Very cool This is Double J You're listening to Ijala Live from the Past If I can have a potent be It's hard to be young How can a generation at war Rise to overcome The dumb attributes The world puts on its pleasure And being a generation Duped to die by all the pressure I look at girls like Meg And just want to tell her That with the help of God We can triumph over the lesser Link our hearts with God And bond ourselves together We can make it through the storms When life comes to test That she's confused Living for God Just isn't the norm Her friends aren't doing it Why should she not conform The drinking and the drugs And the boy with the open arms But the pain in the end Will cause her heart to mourn She wonders if God Could really be the way But it's frightening to death At what her friends will say But that longing for a reason To live Tugs at her heart Looks up to the stars And screams out in the dark And she says Dear God
If you're out there Show me That you do care God I need your hand I need your touch Is your grace Enough Dear God If you hear me Show me That you're listening God I need to know Which side you're fighting for In a generation At four Amy You never see the void By what she's saying A cover off a mask To avoid what she's containing An emptiness inside She can't fill with The game she's playing Tries to float on by With a smile She's been portraying Pushing aside The impact From all the trauma Brothers in a cell In a band And by your father Used to have a mother But mama is there no longer Feels it's her fault So turnstarts To harm itself Affected by the circumstances She's dealt Feels like no one cares Covers up the pain With stealth Feels like she's going nowhere Like she's bound to fail Don't believe God has a plan Like she's bound for hell Looks inside and realizes She wants to believe But God you love me Why'd you let this happen to me The questions circle round Like laughs in her head She looks up
And screams over and over again Dear God If you're out there Show me That you do care God I need your hand I need your touch Is your grace Enough Dear God If you hear me Show me That you're listening God I need to know Which side you're fighting for In a generation At war The accounts that I've said The stories that I've told We can now encounter The question that's been age old Can we come out of a Generation's war With a feeling of purpose And what we're fighting for Because we have a purpose Yes we have a meaning The things we want to know Is how we go about retrieving How do we find God In the midst of all of grieving Does God have faith in me Even when I stop believing With the sex The drugs The pain is on the rise Venom in the system Pornography in our eyes It's time to take a stand And break through all the lies Let God break through the walls We've built inside our lives It's time we all start living again Show God we are the chosen generation When the will of God is in us We're always just growing stronger So we can become this generation of honor As we say Dear God If you're out there Show me That you do care God I need your hand
I need your touch Is your grace Enough Dear God If you hear me Show me That you're listening God I need to know Which side you're fighting for In a generation at war Dear God If you're out there Show me That you do care God I need your hand I need your touch Is your grace Enough Dear God If you hear me Show me That you're listening God I need to know Which side you're fighting for In a generation at war Oh man Alright that was Double J You're listening to Live from the Path We're going to take a quick break We'll be right back with you Thanks for listening Nice Live from the Path I can see a genie Coming out of a bottle You're hanging out To the mellow sounds Superdaw Superdaw Superdaw They were great Yeah they were cool They were pretty good Here's the thing Brandon The lead singer guy Yeah He looked famous Actually he did look pretty famous Yeah Yeah he was He was really cool Because when he came in

It's good to use One of those new t-shirts And just leave it behind I really do like that t-shirt Does the back say something? No That's cool That's even better There is no It's just like the at And it has a generation of war Here at the bottom I can't really get that Yeah no that's cool Do too much work No you're fine It's like at At At Ink All right Blot It's like someone threw an ink ball At it Paint ball Ink bat I had my at stencil When I got shot That's not You've been listening live in the past I'm an artist If you didn't catch it in the first hour We heard a couple performances from Double J He did an awesome job Those will be showing up on our YouTube channel Within the next 24 to 48 hours Might even before I leave tonight We'll see what happens Boom Boom We'll get those up And you can check them out there You can also check them out on Facebook He's on Twitter And Reverb Nation You can find them on all three of those things You can listen to some of those tunes online And make sure you go out and check out his live show So you can pick up a CD And get the shirt There's a two for one He's kind of stingy with the CDs You better bring big money
Do you want one? Oh we gotta be bitter all day Can you move on? We both love Jesus Let's just end it at that Jonathan I'm gonna face this way Our Christian bromance is tainted I'll give you my CD It's awesome Actually you know what's more pathetic Than the Jonathan David Is like the guy that wants to be the Titus I'll be Titus Would you be my Paul? You can be my Paul Which is Titus is the lower guy obviously So you're saying I need you to do all the work And like really drag me along I mean Titus I'm sure was a great guy But I mean obviously Paul was the higher I'll write a short gospel Actually the title was just a letter to Titus Yeah I'll let you write It's Paul writing to Titus It's in the Bible That's all that matters Paul's trying to chill you out Take some wine or something Chill out dude You got stomach problems If I hang out with you Would you mention me in the Bible? Just say I was there Just one book One book with my name on it I'm going to take my cloak It's my favorite one Now here's the deal If you're going to make that deal You gotta make sure you don't You don't put them the wrong way Apollos Apollos got a name drop And it wasn't a good one So if you're going to If you're going to Find a guy who's going to write something You better be nice to him He's going to harbor it forever
Alright You're listening to Life in the Past Let's Oh I was going to Talk amongst yourselves I got to pull up a story Alright Airplane food Hey actually check this out Discuss Discuss Talk amongst yourselves Discuss the following 1 Corinthians 15 10 says By the grace of God I am what I am And his grace toward me Was not in vain On the contrary I worked harder than any of them Though it was not I But the grace of God That is with me Where was that? 1 Corinthians 15 10 Who wrote 1 Corinthians? I got caught up on the Popeye part I am what I am And I kind of I am what I am That's the part By the grace of God I am what I am That part stuck out for me And I don't know what exactly it was Maybe it's the thought that like I think constantly Even in our This is true universally Even not in your walk of faith But even in your walk of faith I think we're also We're always thinking of ourselves Evolving into somebody else As opposed to the people that we are You know what I'm saying? Like Like I'm going to be a Paul As opposed to Hey man By the grace of God I am what I am
And God will use me through that And it's through his grace That I'm able to be used in that question That's true That's actually never crossed my mind But You know Sometimes Sometimes you get the impression What you You don't When you When you With your walk with Christ And your attendance at church Everything Like You know If I just keep at this God's really going to use me For something Yeah I'll be like that other person That you respect Right You're going to be changed Into someone That can be used by God I can't wait Until God really just uses me For my full potential You know And then I'm willing To just lay everything down And really just be a Church warrior Jesus You know When really God's like I'm using you already Will you just buy into it You know What are you waiting for It's not a You're not growing wings dude Just deal with what you got To a street Right I got it Jesus I don't need you for that I need you Because you work at the quick trip
And there's a guy at the quick trip That I want Get that guy You know Get started What are you waiting for I like that thought He God's like I've had my eye on Andrew For like three weeks now And I really He really likes the The pretzels there And I want somebody To get him I'm going to work on his heart But I need you to go in there And punch it in Get him Plant the seed I've been saying That's the truth Like people get Get an expectation Like you've got to read the bible For what it is You know Right And maybe that By the grace of God I am what I am Means a lot more Than you give it weight to Like you are what you are Or you think You know I'm no Joel Osteen There's no There's not how many people Go to that Whatever 20,000 Whatever people Oh no No You know Like well Maybe you're the guy At Quick Trip Yeah Maybe we need
A Quick Trip guy I am what I am I didn't make me I didn't make this up I mean who else Could make perfection Like this but God That is true I think that every time I gave it upon you I was just waiting for it Yeah I really think that people Kind of get the expectation Like people get so caught up In the expectation They're going to do something huge That they really miss However they define success Yeah They really miss their opportunities That they're supposed to be having Like they get so caught up In like oh I can't wait Until I'm like Preaching to 500,000 people When they They miss the opportunity In the Quick Trip I skip Andrew Because I'm waiting I'm holding off Until I get that whole They're like I don't want to I don't want to do anything Unless it's huge And they miss all the little things That they're called to do Actually that's probably A good point though Like from a godly perspective Right They're waiting for something huge And by doing so Missing out on something huge Yeah You know what I'm saying Yeah Exactly Something that seems small Can be something huge In the long run That'd be like
You say like I'm not going to really do That youth group Because I mean It's small like It's a youth group I have this big stadium And I'm going to I'm going to fill that And so yeah Forget you You never know There could be someone In that small youth group That you've changed their life And they go to their school And they you know Start a ministry And save a hundred I mean Every opportunity Could be equally as huge In the long run I mean It's all perspective I am what I am God made me who I am For a specific purpose And he used me for his purpose It's not mine And he puts you where you are For a reason too Well and I think People being people And I think that's actually Something to think about On a personal level In your prayer life Is if you find That you're always praying For you to become Something different You're missing God Working in your own life I mean Or you're likely to Right Because all you're saying is God is trying to use this And I'm saying Use something else Use a version of me That doesn't exist
Yeah And so even on your own prayer life Just be careful Which it's okay to Ask for things about yourself To make you a better person A better witness Oh sure Stuff that brings glory to Christ But for heaven's sakes Make sure you're saying Lord thank you for who I am Help me to realize How you're using me And help me to go out And bring glory to you Through me Right God's like I need a Ben And a Troy And a Dan And a Mike And a double J I need these guys I got him doing different stuff And well he doesn't really need us But you know what I'm saying But you know what I'm saying He's got something for us He made you specifically You know I mean And you're crafted in his image He's got things for you to do Well you look at At all these Hebrews 11 Just talked about that A couple weeks ago On Sunday morning These weren't necessarily Great people They're people That God did great things through And it's not like They were on his journey To do something great God just said Hey I got this great thing Okay you just do this And it just turns out To be great
Come and walk They didn't know It was going to be great You know I didn't know the water Was going to like Do that You know I mean Stop doing the sheep I mean Right You know That's almost It is universally true Like there's not A redeeming soul In the bunch I mean all those people Were Are examples in our eyes Because God made them examples Noah was Noah was saved from the flood Because Not because the Bible says He had a redeeming value But God said I chose Noah to You know To be my The proof That I'm going to Save some of these guys And they're going to Perpetuate themselves Afterwards Like It didn't say Noah did anything That was worth Redeeming Right One of the few people In scripture That you look at And say Now there's a superstar You know Is the first king Of Israel Saul And he turned out
To be a real loser Spiritually Oh man Saul totally He did not end well He's the butt of our jokes Literally We're in the Ergermeier's Of the study Bible Right And I read it To my oldest daughter Who's five And like Like the running gag is Saul Because I was like Oh man Saul had such great potential And then He's sacrificing When he's not supposed to He's ignoring Samuel He's chasing after David He's building statues For his own self Yeah I mean He's like He's totally gone The wrong way And he had such potential God chose him He was head and shoulders Above everybody He was really good looking He had the charisma There's a guy We want him to be our king He's the one You know Yeah he's working out so well He stinks Yeah David stinks He sacrificed his own daughter I mean like All these guys are just Moses wasn't allowed in Because he's doing stuff He's not supposed to Yeah You guys are in bad shape
They sound like me God will use me For great things I just have to wait God I'm waiting I'm going to sit here And do nothing until And I tell you what There was Dan says a lot of great things But one of the things That stuck with me Was the example of Moses holding out the staff And not knowing What was going to happen It's like the thought of That Moses Oh Moses knew well ahead of time How God was going to use him And what he would know Moses you go in there And you're going to do The following eight things And this is how you're going to react But more it's like I'll tell you the next step You take the next step You hold out the staff And good luck I'm going to do something Yeah And that image is a great one Because I think we do We think Well those guys had it all planned out And God was talking to them every day And conversing with them Well Moses what should we do today That's a good plan Okay I'll do that part And then you do this part And we'll come together on it But it's more like God saying Moses do this And what next Lord I'll tell you when you need to know You do what I told you to already You just throw that stick down Yeah Trust me Yeah That'd be funny if Moses was afraid of snakes
And he threw the staff down And he turned to snakes Oh a snake And then you hear a big Ho ho ho Gotcha That's not my real voice That would kill you But I am laughing Yeah Ho ho I saw you kill that guy That's not fun No I have a theory That most of the views That we get on YouTube On this show Will be like long after we're all dead And we'll be like Well I guess we didn't really do anything And all of a sudden It'll just mushroom And people will be coming to Jesus And all kinds of crazy stuff Will happen from YouTube You keep thinking that Dan Yeah I was going to say You know with our Boots and Cats talk Don't think that's going to mushroom Hey sir We'll only put the Jesus stuff On YouTube Boots and Cats save lives Okay That's right Fine Hold on Speak Hold on Speaking of which Someone had went back And looked up our So we had an Atheist Convention discussion This was back in October Of last year And some guy Has like Watched it This week And here is Here is his response to our This is fantastic
Atheist Convention discussion And his handle is Midnight Rhino Not spelled correctly It's a Y In the R Instead of Rhino R-H-I It's R-H-Y Got it It's kitschy Midnight Rhino Here it is He's a rhymer I go to church And read the Bible occasionally And I'm atheist But you all are retards For generalizing atheists As people who live to disprove religion But I can shout on That I do get frustrated With some Christ psychopaths That really want to disprove you But big deal I'm living life We only live once I think therefore No E I am No period Take that I think therefore I am Boom He did not spell therefore correctly Take that Christ retards Here's the deal This is terrible What bothers me the most About things like this Is like I mean If you're going to come out And start yelling at somebody Like spell it correctly Put some grammar together Yeah And don't call them names He already lost credibility Right there It's like Okay
I like his starting ground I go to church And read the Bible occasionally And I'm atheist But you Just the letter U Are all our retards For generalizing atheists As people who live to disprove religion But I can shout on that No comma space or anything I do get frustrated With some Christ Lowercase psychopaths That I really want to disprove you But big deal No space comma I'm living life Capital I We only live once I think therefore No E I am no period There it is I read that comment And I thought That man got out of that discussion Only what he wanted to Yes Like we When we talked about this We tried to talk about it In a In a very even Even keeled fashion Still Jesus centered fashion But We tried to break down When we were talking about atheists That they're It wasn't a generalization That was the whole point Of the discussion We were not trying to generalize atheists We were trying to figure out That for an organization That bases most of their theories On science While most of their You know It was like 90% of their Their literature Is on how religion is bogus
Like not 90% of their literature Is on science And evolution And And you know Microbiology 90% of their literature Is on how religion Is no good So really You know Is your Is your actions Backing up What's coming out of your mouth You know And that's what we were talking about Is they're more of a religious Of They're an anti-God Organization More than they're a science organization Which I would be much more You know They'd be much easier To get along with You know If they're like We really dig on science And evolution And we want to study that more We want to figure out What's going on And But they don't They spend 90% of their time Making fun of Christ And so You know What are you supposed to take from that We don't spend 90% of our time Making fun of atheists That guy set himself up though I mean I like I couldn't do anything about it Yeah He commented on her own He walked into the bar With a Little lady's hat on That's what he's done to himself Right
Now You probably don't know Double J We That's not really your name I just called you Double J I mean My name's Phil It's Dan Phil Andrew So What we did was They had a national conference Here in Des Moines Yeah I heard about that Yeah And we held a prayer room In the midst Did you know about that Okay We had a prayer room 24-7 No I didn't We called it Dan Hudson's prayer room Put a face on it Come on up here atheists And pray to Jesus But we just were praying for them We didn't interact with them We didn't call them names Or debate We just there to pray And That's kind of Yeah The discussion was Like we were trying to find a way I mean There were some other groups That went with a more Aggressive approach I feel like that was going to be Completely ineffective We thought well If God's going to do something We're going to let God do something Yeah We'll go and pray And do as little to draw attention To ourselves as possible Like if we get out of there And no one has known
That we were there at all Then we've done it correctly You know So we had a hotel room And kind of went in there And just you know I made sure someone was in there Praying every hour For 24 hours Over two and a half days Or so And that was kind of The thought I think But that's what The discussion came up Because the question is You know what Like if you don't believe In anything What is the convention about And like that So that was the basis Of the discussion And so that guy Obviously just got And it was weird I had that same Had the same discussion With Julie Barnes Who heads the Spirit of the West Music Festival A little earlier today Someone had Taken some video She was asking If we had any footage Of Michelle Bachman When she was there And I think our camera Was at the other stage At the time But like someone Had taken Some video Of Michelle Bachman And made it sound Like she Was a racist Like only likes White people And she said Wet people
Because like It was pouring rain Like when she was there And so like So they had said But if you Take it And you know Degrade the audio A little bit And then put The caption that says White people on it Well that's what People are going to Think it is And so like They're intentionally Trying to discredit her And ultimately People are going to Hear what they want To hear You know If they want To think that Someone's racist They're going To listen for that If they want To look at someone And say These Jesus folks Are you know They hate everybody You have to be part Of the church Or they don't like you If they're part of their church Or they don't like you You know People hear what They want to hear And there's not much You can do about that Except for Pray them And hope God Picks them out At the quick trip Because I wanted That guy Pick them out
So Alright So anyway That was I am what I am And that's That's our Atheist commentary So here's the story Here it is So KCCI Ran a story On the Point of Grace Church In Waukee So they had basically Taken over the management Of a daycare That was operating In their building Happy time daycare Was under separate ownership And they were given The space Or renting the space Or something from the church So Point of Grace Church Took over the management Of the daycare In order to create The Point of Grace Children's Academy The story That got to the news Or that was the bigger Part of the news Was As part of the transition They basically fired All the people That were at this academy And then said Look you can reapply For your job But you're going to have To sign This Christian Lifestyle commitment Okay It's a covenant That's required for the staff And just to kind of Give you an idea Of what this commitment
Was Let's see You're signing That I have the desire To live in a biblical manner So I commit to the following If I'm married I'm faithful to my spouse Or if I'm single I abstain from sexual relationships Or cohabitation with another Two I abstain from all homosexual conduct Or other sexual perversion Three I abstain from viewing pornography In any form Four I either abstain from the consumption Of alcohol Or abstain from the abuse of alcohol Which leads to drunkenness Five I abstain from using any foul Profane Coarse or crude language Six I regularly attend A local church body Seven I abstain from behavior Which would raise questions About my Christian testimony And eight I understand that this is not An all-inclusive list of expectations But I will unconditionally commit To live with these stated expectations During my employment Above all Commit to living a life Pleasing to God And directed by the Holy Spirit So Initial thoughts Mike When I first heard the story Like they were They were trying to color it As a discrimination Situation Where someone says I'm being discriminated against Because I don't want to sign the pledge
And I thought See I didn't know what I said I kept going back and forth Like I thought And they actually only told Half of the list Like they said Abstain from alcohol And They didn't include the part of the list Where it says Or Abstain from drunkenness I'm like Abstain from alcohol That's a bit much You know Like that's not biblical Although If it's a condition of your employment You know I mean I guess they can They can hire or fire However they see fit You know If they don't want you drinking They don't want you drinking But They said You know Abstain from drunkenness And I instantly Sided against the church I tend to do this on occasion Because I think They're zealots You know But I don't see that list As being unreasonable If they were to say You know I don't want The alcohol is the thing That stuck on me Everything else You know Everything else They read word for word And sounded fairly biblical And you know It's part of the employment It's part of the employment
But I thought it did raise the question I mean Can you Can you agree with those standards Like is that a reason For you to be fired Like if you sign this pledge That says that you're going to try To live a Christian lifestyle I fail at that every day You know what I'm saying Like in one way or another I generally screw that up Just about every day Is that a reason for me To lose my job Can I not lead people Can If you're not a perfect person Can you not lead people Dan You run a church Speak on it It is not Unlike A document We have the Pastors Leadership Covenant That I go through In the Canino Pathway Church class This Like in This situation You're talking about It is not a Child care Or day care Or preschool Whatever it is You know Across the street You know Joe Blow's Preschool It's a church one It's a Christian one And as a parent If I'm going to a Christian
Preschool I'm doing that because I want my child To be taught And nurtured by people Who have similar beliefs That I have I would be Really disappointed If Someone There Wouldn't sign that Document that they have And they want to watch my child Because that's why I went to them You know Otherwise they go There's plenty of Child Places out there So I think it's completely reasonable I think for any church They should have it And for any Auxiliary Organization Off the church That you know That type of thing Employment type of thing Yeah Totally reasonable Because Nothing about it was Like crazy It wasn't like Oh You said a naughty word You know You're out That type of thing It's more lifestyle Why would you have them Sign the sheet If that's not how You're going to use it Well I mean it's basically Saying that you're Agreeing to live A perfect Christian lifestyle Although we have
The right to cancel Your unemployment I think the heart Is that you're on the path To God You know That you're on the path You're on the road You're going the right direction Rather than I'm an openly Defiant person Sexually Or I mean that's Some of the stuff Well Then why Why need the examples I guess My concern wasn't so much The principles It was Ultimately how you would Enforce such a thing Like if for example Let's say I signed off On something And I said I'm going to attend Church regularly Like it doesn't mean They have to attend Church there For some reason I You know Whatever Something goes on With my church Or frankly I had something Weird going on I get out of there And I You know Now I'm not a Regular church attender For a couple months Is that enough To terminate my employment Probably I mean
I don't think They intended To be some Legalistic document Where they're Then why Then why List the legalistic measure I think if they were Really legalistic They would define Regular Where they'd say You must attend You know Three out of four weeks Or whatever Regular is For them I don't think That's the heart Of it I guess I'm saying That because I heard the person Who Is the pastor Of this church Explain What their Angle was On this whole thing And it really wasn't You know It's just Hey We're all believers Together We're doing this thing We're linking ours Together And this is what We believe We expect this out Of you If you're going To wear our name And Under our name You know Educate children Then We want you
To at least It's a pretty low standard I mean it's not like Big monster standards You know It's really basic Hey don't get drunk Well That's what Jesus said I mean it's just It's stuff right out of the Bible Don't be homosexual That's what the Bible says You know Don't live together Outside of wedlock mail That's what the Bible said I would say that Well You know I mean Yeah Yeah Yeah I would include Don't even Yeah We're going to put Webcams in the bedroom Make sure you're not Doing anything Okay We won't say that But Double J Where are you at on this Whoa You know To the point I agree Like with With the standards Like if You're going to Take your kid To a A Christian Daycare You're going to Want Christian people Who live in the Christian lifestyle To watch them
One of them What was number seven I believe it was number seven Seven was the I've staying from Behavior which would Raise questions About my Christian Testimony What What is that Like who's Who's to judge That certain Behavior is Going to get That's like That stuck out to me That that one It's like It's very vague Like Yeah I will I will stay away From stuff That's going to Make them think I'm not a Christian Like I will control What goes on In the mind Of somebody else Like yeah Define that Like When you say When you say John When you say The fourth John John four We probably violated This with that First John Third John Talk Yeah It's all Okay It's the same thing When you make a list
Is when you get in trouble Just like Timothy and Titus Talk about Some people use the word Qualifications For elders and deacons Within a church I always tend to say That's not really a qualification Because I have a check off list Because I can look at that And say Addicted to much wine That's one of it Well that's probably not one of them Has a good reputation In the community Okay Or There's several Enjoys having people In the home If I like you I can say Oh yeah You do that And I can think of examples How you do that If I don't like you I can find a way To make that not work Yeah And it's the same thing With this You know It's not intended To be a legalistic document With a check off list It's an intended To say Come on Let's just Live for Jesus I think That may be there And was the Was the mistake Because I think The way If there was a mistake I guess I feel like the mistake
Was the list I feel like the mistake Was the list Like I think Frankly you could have You could have signed off on I commit to living a life Pleasing to God And directed by the Holy Spirit That would have said The exact same thing Right And then And then Your If you're working for somebody It's their evaluation As to whether you're Meeting that commitment Or not And frankly If you're not meeting These things Then yeah You're going to have a problem But the list I think comes off As legalistic Even if they're not Enforcing it that way And frankly Think of it this way Let's say you had Someone that's working Even from a witness perspective You have someone That's working in your daycare And you find out That they are They were fine They were living A regular life of Christ And then all of a sudden They've got themselves Mixed up with somebody And now they're cohabitating Right Is the thing to do To fire them Is that the Is that the first reaction Is that you say Look
You don't approach Them about trying To help with the behavior To be a positive Witness to them For Christ You fire them Well you have the Conversation to see Where their heart Really is In this whole thing Yeah but that's not Really what it says It's even cohabiting So what That's Talking about sexual perversion He was very general Because he knew That if you listed The amount of Like all the sexual Perversion he could Think of Someone would just Come up with another One and then do that Right Outside of whatever The list was Right So like Generally speaking Stay away from The sexual perversion That even has the Appearance of Sexual immorality Yeah So I don't know I guess my reaction To this was Absolutely They have a complete Right to say We're going to run A Christian daycare We have to have Certain standards Because that's what People are paying for It's what they expect
I don't find that This list did very well From a Christian Witness standpoint I also feel like It was completely Unnecessary It's implicit in the I will live a life That is pleasing to God And then frankly The discussions about What is appropriate here And where you're Running into trouble Could have been held Without having to Sign on to these Individual points It seems odd That the people That used to work there Feel like they're now Being discriminated against Because of the list Like it seems like All this could have Been avoided by saying We're closing down Your place of employment You no longer have a job Done And then when you Open it up later If they want to come back And apply for their job You know That's great You can look at it But instead of saying We're going to close down If you want to work here Reapply for the job Under our new Strict standards Or in your opinion Our strict standards I guess But here's our new standards For you to work here It seems like It would have just been Easier to say
Look Where you were working Is no longer Place of employment You're all fired And then If they came over On their own volition To apply for the job Then that's something different Yeah And the church Didn't bring this I mean this was Someone who had been Upset about being let go They brought it To the news Attention I don't think I don't find the church Nefarious here There's parts of it Where I think I think there would have been A better way to handle it That frankly You might have come out As a better witness To the people That were working there And frankly You could have avoided This whole thing Which Again people hear What they want to hear Right There are people That look at this And say This is patently outrageous And the way The KCCI covered it Is they said No drinking They didn't give you The Because I'm in the same boat I think the Although I think It's a standard That people have
Full authority To institute I find that By doing so It's generally coming From a mindset That I tend to find That I tend to disagree with Like If you're the Absolutely no alcohol bunch Unless like you Yourself are an addict And can't be around it There's also Another of the things That I just find you Difficult to deal with It doesn't make you Not a Christian It doesn't make you ungodly It doesn't make you wrong Even It just makes it Like I find you more Difficult to deal with Than other people But generally speaking There wasn't anything That was really offensive here I just I feel like they Had you thought about it It wouldn't have Coming off so bad If you say Look are you The evaluation God's not doing a checklist He's saying Look I mean Do you love Christ And do I see That you're Not running from me And our list is It's not pharisaical But I don't know It smacks of it To me Just a little bit It smells slightly Yeah
And again I don't want to paint the picture That like I have a problem With this list I don't Nor do I Reasonably I just feel like This discussion Didn't need to be had In the public arena And I know They didn't bring it up But had you avoided the list It wouldn't have been In the public arena Like the provision of You're going to work A Christian thing You're going to follow The Holy Spirit It doesn't make it Without these details It is such a standard Type of document though And the last thing They thought Yeah This is going to be Some big blow up thing Yeah fair enough It's just basic Troy Bibles But if you think Of the difference So like You talk It's the pastor's covenant A guy that's Trying to be a pastor Somewhere Kind of expects that A little more You know what I'm saying Like he doesn't flinch At that kind of thing I think it's the audience That they were That they were dealing with Well maybe that's the transition They're looking for them
Being pastors So to speak To these children As opposed to just Daycare workers Well yes true But I think Like knowing that You're exposing This document Intentionally To people who are not Coming at it With that mindset I think you run it It just It was an To me it was an oversight It's something you probably Could have done better Yeah It's Christian employment It's employment Under the church And I think it's Completely understandable To have a set of guidelines If you are Out in the public If you are Underneath the church's name If you are underneath The name of Christ Then In the public's eye You should Live up To certain expectations That list disqualifies me From working at our church And I understand Put it this way too Even James says Teachers will be judged More strictly Right I mean It could be a protection It's the same It's not the same thing But it's the same basic concept As you think about You see celebrities
You see What they do wrong A lot more than If I were to do something wrong If I were to go out On a date You probably wouldn't see Paparazzi all over the place Taking pictures of it Saying ooh Is there a fling going on Right now But if Justin Bieber Goes out with Selena Gomez There's 18 magazines That it's on the front cover Who's What did you say his name was Justin Bieber And Selena Gomez I'm just I don't keep up with it Whatever They're two celebrities B. Arthur That's me B. Arthur And then Whoever she's ever dated Whatever But the whole concept Is the fact that They're in the public's eye So whatever they do Is judged to a higher standard There's no doubt about that And the same concept I don't know that's true Because I think the public The public doesn't hold The same standards The church holds Their last I don't think your I don't think your risk Is the public risk Doing this was your public risk No I'm not saying That the standards are the same I'm saying That just like Dan said Teachers are held to
A higher standard Because they are Above Not necessarily on A moral plane Or anything like that But people see them More than you see the students You see the teachers A lot more than you see The students You see what I'm saying By that No I'm not following Okay You don't agree with that What do you mean You see them They are more Publicly present Than the students are Same as Dan is more publicly Dan is a preacher His job is to get up And talk to a bunch of people Well that's what A teacher's job is Yeah Talk to a bunch of kids But that's not Unless you're talking About the kids Is the public Then I don't follow the example Yeah the kids are the public Okay So they influence the kids I'm with you Why do we just say it that way I was making a world view Comparison It did kind of take a long time To get there Troy My apologies You asked me to talk So I did I'm just saying I gave you the camera And everything And you're totally wasting it I guess Good to know
The thing is If you look at a list like that It says look you won't do X of these things Whatever these things are I look at that list And think I'm working on it man I'm trying here I'm not I'm not necessarily Agreeing with the list I'm not saying I never once said That I did See maybe Maybe you're looking At it legalistically You're making up All these lists of things About what a Christian life is And all Immediately your mind goes Blah blah blah blah You know all these Different things Their list says it though man But that's what their list says It says what I just read them off I mean it wasn't that specific It was kind of generic Yeah live for Jesus Don't get drunk It was not that That was exactly what it wasn't I mean You can't say Live for Jesus is generic Don't get drunk is specific If I'm married I'll faithful to my spouse I will stay If I'm single And it's all just bible That's not even crazy stuff I agree But people fail at the bible All the time Yeah Yeah but like Most of that is I mean it's one thing If you
Wow I made one mistake But if that's your lifestyle Then you're not really A Christ follower Right But that's what I'm saying Is that like That's where I think The failure of this list is Because it applies It applies single action I will abstain from using Any foul profane Coarse or crude language I tell a joke That I'm not supposed to I have not abstained from that I'm technically a breach Of my contract It's a contract I guess if you look at Yeah but I think The heart of this is If you're doing that Every day And you're telling The kids dirty jokes And they're going home And telling them Well but that's But that's the difference Right Is if someone Can be a teacher A non-Christian At a Christian school And follow all those rules Why they're at work What's the difference I don't think I understand your question I don't either I think What I'm saying What I'm saying Is that If the list Because you're saying That You know If you're telling Dirty jokes to the kids Or you're bringing
Your lifestyle Into the school You know That's corrupting What they want To have done At the school Then that's what They're trying to avoid Right But that list Is not inclusive To that That list is saying I want to know What you do here And outside of here If someone can come in And you say And you can say Here's the rubric We're going to talk About Hebrews today And they're like No problem We're going to talk About the love of Jesus today No problem I can do that We're going to be nice To the kids We're going to love kids And we're going to give them Attention And we're going to do We're going to provide All these things And they say Great I can do all those things But again You're going back To the church In Timothy and Titus With leaders in the church It's all about Their private life I'm saying That a Christian Can't fulfill that list Almost just as easily As a non-Christian Can't fulfill that list
I still think It wasn't that big a deal There's not that Bad of stuff in there It's not saying You have to be perfect At all times And always have a tie on And never have your shoe Untied And you know It wasn't that oppressive I didn't think I'm not saying They're not biblical principles I'm saying It's like The way that it is set up It does not leave room For man who is sinful I can't agree with that actually You have to leave now Oh look The time's up No I mean Like when I heard it It kind of felt like It kind of felt oppressive Almost Because like I mean Granted it's all biblical But like It's that seventh one That always gets It's like It kind of adds to the general Like if you do anything That we don't like That's what it does sound like Yeah I mean It's like You got Okay this is all biblical Then that one hits It's like If you're doing anything else That I don't think is biblical Then I'm gonna Get out the door It just feels like We're all People who apply
Will be like Okay I gotta live up To this guy's standard Rather than God's standard This guy's Interpretation Of what the Bible Has going Which is Which is why It feels Pharisaical Rules upon rules Upon rules Here's what Jesus said Here's the oppressive part That we're adding Because we don't think You're paying enough attention To God's rules And then you end up Looking at The manager guy Yeah And being like Well I hope he thinks I'm Jesus enough That I can still work here That's what it feels like And it kind of sounds like It sounds like We're almost supposed To live up to This person's expectations Or his interpretation Of God's expectations Choose the final judge On whether you keep your job If it ain't Jesus Yeah It's the guy that's Hiring or firing you Well that's true of any You don't have to work At the Christian daycare I mean Obviously you You have a choice You don't have to work there I don't agree I agree with their ability To put the standard I agree with someone
Who says Look I can't get up with that Or It's just like I don't Even the premise Of the document I don't have a problem with I think it was just It wasn't done It wasn't handled very well Because I would never Draft a document That comes off Like that I just wouldn't Could have been put across A little bit differently Like you said Like that last little Little snippet Was enough Was enough It was like Live a Christian lifestyle You know Live by the goddess Of the Holy Spirit You're done Do you love Christ? Yeah And then it becomes Opened to God's standards Because there's not really Anyone's thoughts Put into it You guys are coming Through the filter Of a Christ follower Though They're looking at A broader scope Like they specifically Put the homosexual thing In there Because there's Homosexual churches And they will come And say Oh there are Homosexual pastors Although I wouldn't use the word
Because they're not Even Christ followers Because they're You know They're totally In defiance Of scripture However Their whole church Is built on lies And so they can come And say Of course I'm a good Christian Look what I do I go to church every week I'm a preacher And blah blah blah And blah blah And this whole stuff So some things They've got to have Specific in there And say Yeah but you're doing this And in our understanding Of scripture That's in violation Of what God says You know Of the nature of man I mean that's just One example of it But Right I see what you're saying Like Well The question is Do they run into A discrimination issue If If they're not that specific And some guy says You know They try to fire the He or she Under the pretenses Of you're living a You know Sexually perverted life Or whatever Regardless of what The perversion is And they try to make
The case Well But that's not Doesn't make me A non-Christian I should still be able To have my job And then now you have A problem Is that what you're saying Yeah Okay Alright Well there it is then We will not be opening A daycare Yeah I don't feel like We've made any ground here I think I still disagree With Daniel Which one Which is odd Everybody I'm still on my own I just like Jonathan I'm a rock I'm an island I like second Alright Well I don't know I've heard I heard it over The last few weeks Kind of like The both Both extremes of this Of the Of the list Being discriminatory It is a Jesus filibuster That's right JC That's old school That's the way To go after it But I And I think Ultimately What we're missing Is that Maybe I'm fluffy Maybe I just I like fluffy
I don't like complications In my Christ following I like Are you following Christ or not You're a rebel God is working through you Who might You know You shouldn't be reflecting Non-biblical principles But I also shouldn't have to be Standing next to you With a ruler You know You know what I'm saying Like If you're following Christ It will shake out And I don't like these Well you tripped Well look at that guy Look at him trip You know Like that's I guess Kind of what I feel like This is doing And I know That's not intentional They're just reiterating Biblical truth But the way That they've put it Makes me Makes me feel A little bit Like they're taking Pictures of you Falling down And saying Alright good Now you're fired Because like You don't fall down Around the three year old They're trying to walk So Maybe that's it I just don't like The vibe of it They need a wordsmith I agree with it It could probably be
Easily Easily Ajaundiced The other way So it's not an issue Anyway You're listening to Life from the Path By the way Remember you can catch us Every Monday night 10 to midnight Here on Lifefromthepath.org You can also visit The website At Lifefromthepath.org And sign up for our podcast You can sign up for the Email newsletter You can also get our Life from the Path gear And there's the Shirts available Mike Mike got some action On one of the shirts Tell a story Huh Clever segue Remember that guy That saw that donkey shirt Oh yeah So I was at the Knoxville McDonald's Wearing the donkey shirt And I was standing in line And he goes Hey man I like your shirt I'm like Alright He goes I like you He goes Do you ever go down To the Donkey festival In like Wapaw or whatever I'm like Wapaw I said no
I've never been And he goes Yeah you know There's a donkey festival Blah blah blah And there's a bunch of Half jacks And we have all kinds of You know Ten hand donkeys Down there And he used to Really come down So I was like Good time I'm like Dang it He liked the donkey part Not necessarily the Jesus part That I was hoping He was going to Grab onto And so anyway It was a huge line And there was a bus At the McDonald's So I found the guy After I ordered the food And I'm like Where's my new donkey buddy And I said that out loud And he waved his hand And I went over And talked to him And I said Well it's this shirt For our radio show He goes Yeah I do I do Cowboys for Christ At the At the At the rodeo And he goes Actually I've been looking For a way to kind of Get a hold of it And really start to Spread it around And I said Well I have a radio show And he goes
Well I have donkeys I think we're going to Meet 50-50 on this thing I said Yes sir Let's talk And so we did We talked for about 10 minutes I took down his information And I think we're going To have him on the show Sometime in September Early October He's going to talk about He does Cowboy Church On Sunday mornings Which is a little creepy Where they ride around On the horse With the Janet Jackson Microphone And talk to the crowd Is that what they do? Yeah That's Cowboy Church That is kind of creepy What do you think It's just a regular dude In a cowboy hat? No sir They're on a horse Here's the deal So we were at the fair And we saw this There was a little kid rodeo Where they had a bunch of kids Trying to ride sheep Or whatever Did you troll up That evangelism kid? No I don't know Where the clip is Dad Can you email me the clip? Where do I find the clip? I can find it Yeah but you can't play it I don't know I can send it to you Okay Anyway
So And they They did this They put a lady On a horse With the American flag Like trotting around The arena And they did some sort of Skit Where like The announcer guy Was acting like He was the flag Talking to me And it really weirded me out Cause like I flew over the Something to something To something Like It was It was very patriotic I'm sure But like It just It creeped me out Cause like I had never been In a situation Where like There was some sort of Inanimate object That I was part of the skit Was that it was speaking with me And so like It was real heavy And the flag was like Going slowly around the arena And then It stopped And I thought Okay good And then And then The Star Spangled Banner Flies up Or Proud to be an American Comes flying on Like There was a 15-20 minute
Patriotic montage And frankly I don't like to It's just like When They make you stand too long During the church service Singing the tunes They don't ever tell you You can sit down And you're like Man I really don't want To offend Jesus But I've been standing For 25 minutes I gotta sit down Or something And like That's not where I was With this flag And I felt bad But I had to sit And I couldn't keep my hand On my heart that long It gave me the itches On my left elbow I'm just saying If you're gonna do A Patriotic skit Try to keep it under 25 minutes Or tell a story about it Either way I try to distract From the fact that Dan is looking up That video All of a sudden There's like Tons of pages Opening up That doesn't Really sound good That's a virus Dan You got yourself a virus I got it from The Today Show Oh okay I'll go out and find it By the way Mike tell me a little bit About Double J And his sweetness
From earlier today Yeah Seriously If you haven't Checked out this This fella When it comes to Laying down the beats And what not It's pretty solid Frankly I have a pretty low Expectation of people That come in here Because We're a low rent Operation But God continually To surprise me That brings people That have talent Into this building Ourselves excluded And frankly I don't know Like I'm just amazed Like I really do Want a CD I say that in all jest But I am pretty Excited about it And I'm pretty excited I kind of heard you Talking about your next project And what you had coming up And I don't know I'm pretty excited about it And mostly the reason is Is because And I say this Just about every show But I am floored By people that come in here With a heart for God And use the talent That he gave you And stand on that You know what I'm saying I'm out here doing this For Jesus And that's what I'm about Because that's huge A lot of people dump Jesus
Because it's easier Just to take The accolades for yourself It's usually just to say You know I am good I'm great You know You should come see my show It's all about me You know And it's a lot harder to say I'm only here Because God put me here And I want to share this with you And I hope we can get Something out of this And we can both get Closer to God together And like I said It's 50-50 The music usually blows me away But the heart for Christ Always blows me away more And you know I think that'll come through If you haven't seen The performances From earlier today That'll come through On the YouTube clips That you've seen I'm fairly certain It'll come through On the CD That I've yet to hear Okay here we go Here's an example Of this pipe-sized preacher He says he doesn't preach On cue Only when the Spirit Inspires him Now four years old His evangelical enthusiasm Also has a message Hallelujah I'm preaching about The one One The God The Red I really believe
It's a phenomenon How And what Cannon does It's very unusual I've never seen Anything like it Even though Being his parents So it's quite something Do you think He's mimicking What he hears Or do you think This is a calling I think it's a little Of a boast He's been around The ministry Church And of course He is mimicking But I do feel like The hand of God Is on him In a special way How do you decide When you want to preach Because Because I just want To see my daddy Preach all the time He do He do That's so sweet So he's like father Like son Yes And like grandfather So he is Third generation preacher He certainly is I'm very proud of him Oh man I didn't have the clips In there I just want to say I love that kid's accent Just want to get that out there It is pretty cute Before this gets serious He's got that script Reg He's got that script
He's got to do it It's the best part I can't take this kid Okay Okay Whenever I close my eyes And listen to this It's like The sound guy Decided to play a prank On the pastor And change the pitch Of his microphone So like Alvin the chipmunk Is preaching And did anyone see The little kid in the front With his hand up Yeah I know That's great Did you see The little altar They got for him Yeah I just kidding It is sad There are adults And they're actually Pretending like They're doing church Yeah I mean that's like A church service It's super cute Like It's the kids It's like a talent show They're being cute And having fun And you're on a camp Yeah on the second level Like I mean I can't I can't take him seriously No He's obviously repeating What he's watched his dad do I mean he's got Like you say He's got the rag out Dude
I would appreciate you today You know I didn't even understand What he was saying I just I got out of the chipmunks But But like I don't know The thing is Is like If you're separated from it It is It is pretty cute To watch the kids He's got a funny accent Yeah like His accent's cool To listen to He's cute But the way that he is We watch It was an extended Kind of an interview On the Today Show And the way that His dad talks about it They're serious Yeah I mean Right They're dead serious Yeah And I don't know It makes us look stupid They're putting him on Like a huge pedestal Like this kid Can repeat after me I mean Right exactly It's like A big Simon Says operation Yeah it's like I mean Granted like It's cool It's cool to watch But I mean It doesn't make him I don't know how to Like say this Without sounding like
Really mean But like He's not a preacher No He didn't say anything He just Well that's Sunbites Well that's the thing It's like I ignore him Just as fast as I ignore his dad Because if you stand up For 45 minutes And all you say is Jesus We're here for a revival You know I'm like Oh okay It's like the kid Took the compilation album Of his dad's preaching And put it into one song The best of Do you ever actually Read the bible You know Is there an exegesis Going on here Of what the scripture says You know And that kind of thing Get out of Mount Dew And he decided to let it out I mean it's just like And they said They put that little That little altar up there And then he just Kind of goes up Whenever the spirit calls him Yeah right So like they're just Sitting there doing church And all of a sudden He kind of wanders up there And he's got that Little kid's bible That's what's cute about it He's got like The little pictures
The end of the flaps And stuff I mean like Not saying that like Little kids Like little kids Don't get the power of Jesus And they don't feel the spirit But to an extent That's understandable But on another note Like The bible's pretty extensive On what God expects Out of a leader Especially the leader Of his church And it's generally not Under three feet He just doesn't have The ability to comprehend Even what he's saying Yeah Let alone He's just kind of repeating And like They're blowing it Way out of proportion Well that's the thing It makes God look Illegitimate And that's too bad Because that kid Probably could be pretty cool You know what I'm saying Nothing against him No no There ain't nothing wrong With that kid You know but I don't know It seems like the parents Aren't doing the right Jesus thing Well I guess The thing I'd say That stinks for that kid Is like It sets up his relationship With Christ Or at least How he represents it As kind of a show You know what I'm saying
Like it's not saying Like here's my relationship With Christ It's like here's what I'm supposed to do When I get in front of people That's not good That's not a good That's not the guy You want leading you There's definitely A different way To hone in on that Like I mean definitely The kid's probably got Preaching in his blood But there's a different way To hone in that skill And to teach him Like how to do that Like puberty Yeah I mean like I mean during his life You can A You can like You know work with him Like in private Like on how to improve That ability Because he obviously has it Or B be like Alright this is going to make Us super popular On the internet It's going to go viral Alright go Yeah Well and there's It's weird because like What was the example You remember when the Israelites had like A totally offended God And no one was allowed In the promised land But he let the kids in I mean so obviously He's got a standard Of saying like Like these guys Are not accountable For the stuff that went down And if you're not accountable
That also would imply That you're also not In the position to be Passing it out You know what I'm saying Because like if you knew And understood it enough You would have been Held accountable for it Yeah And you know So I mean God makes That distinction We probably should do As well You've been listening Live from the past Special thanks to Double J Thanks so much for coming in Hope we'll see you back Make sure you check him out If you're allowed Is this Is it an all ages event At the Berean Or just for the youth Probably I figured that out Okay better figure it out Check him out on the Facebook He's on Twitter And Reverb Nation Make sure you keep up with him Go out and support him On his live gigs Buy his CDs Get the shirt Give me a call I'll pick you up in the bus Mike's coming by in the bus Have a wonderful week Thanks for listening To Life from the Past I'll see you back in the bus I'll see you back up in the bus We'll see you back in the bus
