Segments

  • Show open: falling asleep, Fixodent, and Greyhound stories 0:13–4:12
The show opens from the Pathway Studios in Johnston Proper with the host, who introduces himself as Ben Foost, bantering about falling asleep unintentionally and being tired for a year. The group confuses denture adhesive (Fixodent) with something else before Kevin tells a story about falling asleep on a Greyhound bus. They riff on the idea of broadcasting live from a Greyhound or a party bus.
  • Kevin Lindgren introduced; the night's lineup 4:12–7:39
The host formally introduces in-studio guest Kevin Lindgren, a returning musical guest and singer-songwriter, noting his life has changed substantially since his last visit. The host previews the night: more of Kevin's songs, a question about what has made each person the angriest in their life, Spangler joining later, and advice for listeners who ask for help.
  • Leftover chocolates, pressure-cooker chicken, and vending machines 7:40–12:28
The hosts warn Kevin about week-old leftover chocolates in the studio and discuss cooking chicken in a pressure cooker bought on the Home Shopping Network. The conversation drifts into vending-machine food: peanut M&M's in gumball machines, questionable donuts with 'flavor bits,' and the mysterious 'Blueberry Ugly' pastry that Double J gets from a machine.
  • Kevin's last visit, his online presence, and the 80-cent song gag 12:28–16:02
The host recaps Kevin's disastrous last visit, when the computer crashed 15 minutes before the end of the show and Kevin stayed until 1:30 a.m. re-recording songs so they'd have YouTube clips to post. They plug kevinlingrenmusic.com, Reverb Nation, and iTunes, then riff on iTunes pricing: Kevin jokes about charging 80 cents for a song so buyers can exhaust a $20 gift card — 'the clean-up tune.' Mike is mentioned as having raised the mop-up-guy idea.
  • Song: 'Jesus set me free' (written by Troy McBroom) 16:02–22:52
Kevin introduces and performs a song written by his Lamoni friend Troy McBroom, nicknamed 'The Traveling McBroom,' with lyrics about troubles, fear, and being set free by Jesus. Afterward the hosts riff theologically: real life is happening and God is still there — even in the midst of a Blueberry Ugly, 'Jesus is there,' like the whipped cream on the pastry.
  • Kevin's move to Lamoni: kids, faith, and two CDs 22:52–34:01
Kevin explains his move back to Lamoni, Iowa — the last exit in Iowa on the Missouri border, about 1,200 people with no traffic lights — leaving a 50-hour Des Moines job to live half a mile from his two kids. He describes doing it 'completely backwards' — quitting his job and moving before having a place to live or a new job — as a step of faith. He plans to record two CDs and return to live shows, including an hour-long Christian set at churches, playing spots like the Belinda Street Coffee House.
  • Song: 'Don't Let Me Stray' (world debut) 34:01–42:47
Kevin debuts a brand-new song he wrote Thursday about being easily swayed by peer pressure and outside influence despite a solid walk with God — the hosts help him land on the phrase 'peer pressure' for the concept. He performs 'Don't Let Me Stray,' a prayer asking God to bear-hug him and keep him from straying into temptation. A host connects it to the Lord's Prayer — deliverance from the evil one.
  • The double EP: Christian and secular albums, marketing talk 42:48–47:22
Kevin reveals plans for two EPs dropping the last Tuesday of March: a Christian EP and a secular EP, with one song, 'The Crossover,' appearing on both. The group debates album names ('I love girls / I love God'), jokes about a live barn release party with a megabus, and discusses how a small artist actually sells music on iTunes, plus Spotify's 'if you like this, you might like' recommendation links.
  • Sideburns, Michael Bolton, and the March promo roundup 47:23–50:17
The hosts tease Kevin about the hefty sideburns in his website photo and settle the 'science' that Chris Daughtry is popular because of his raging sideburns, with Michael Bolton and Michael McDonald comparisons. They run through March events: a Newsboys show in Indianola on the 19th with a live broadcast and Double J as roaming correspondent, plus Kevin's double-album release at the end of March.
  • Haircuts, garbage day, and the vending-machine follow-up 50:17–53:37
Studio banter about scheduling haircuts months in advance, forgetting garbage day three weeks running, and the personal rule against going back once you've left the driveway. The Blueberry Ugly mystery resurfaces as Kevin and the hosts try to figure out what the vending-machine pastry actually is, with mini-muffins and flavor dots as candidates.
  • Break: Double J video promo 53:37–54:16
Before a quick break, the host plugs a Double J video from the previous week's show, promises more music from Kevin Lindgren after the break, and re-asks the night's question: what in your life has made you the most angry, PG-13 with names changed if needed.
  • Return: weeping prophet, promos, and mocha eggnog 54:16–58:51
Returning from break with the tagline 'honest faith, fierce grace, and sometimes donkeys,' the hosts riff with Kevin on double-album names, dubbing him 'the Jeremiah of acoustic rock' and 'the weeping prophet.' The host promotes livefromthepath.org, Blip TV, the iTunes podcast, and the YouTube channel, mentions Double J's rap involving 105 energy drinks, and the group debates mocha eggnog.
  • The anger question; Troy throws Trey through a wall 58:51–1:07:35
The hosts re-ask the night's question: the single thing that has made each person the angriest, PG-13 with names changed. In-studio participant Troy — addressed by name via the chat — tells the story of his brother Trey antagonizing him until he threw Trey over the bed and through both sides of their bedroom wall into the foyer. Their mother caught the duct-tape-and-spray-paint repair immediately; Troy says he has spent years lengthening his fuse and prays to God to keep him from ever reaching that point again.
  • Kevin on anger: people who get angry over little things 1:07:36–1:12:14
Asked what makes him angry, Kevin Lindgren answers that what angers him is people who get angry over the dumbest little things — like a missing Blueberry Ugly ruining someone's whole day — and then take it out on everyone around them. He describes a recursive loop: he gets mad at himself for letting other people's anger make him angry.
  • Fridge punching, high-school football, and chat gossip 1:12:14–1:14:30
The group swaps stories about punching refrigerators and trailers instead of people, and one participant recalls high-school football as legal daily violence. The chat room teases that Troy only tells stories making himself look ridiculous, gossips about Dan wearing the same shirt two Mondays running, and notes Kevin Lindgren wore the same shirt the night before.
  • A host on anger: calm in crisis, stewing over petty slights 1:14:30–1:16:40
A host reflects on his own anger pattern: he handles genuinely anger-worthy situations well but stews for days over petty, ambiguous slights — an offhand comment that could be read as underhanded, or a coworker who is straight-up wrong. He illustrates with the hypothetical 'nice car dentist' insult that would haunt him for three days and admits to holding a workplace grievance for a month over the black staplers.
  • Dan on anger: the cheating girlfriend and the motorcycle ditch 1:16:40–1:21:52
Asked directly on air ('Dan, what about you?'), Dan tells his high-school story: after dating a girl for three years, he caught her sitting next to coworker Lloyd in a truck on Merle Hay Road. Driving home getting angrier, he suited up at 2 a.m. in his dad's army combat boots, black leather, and a tinted helmet, then flew down the road in Saylorville at 70 mph, hit a sand pile, and went off into the ditch. He walked away unhurt — a rock hit his helmet where his forehead was — and concluded nothing is worth that kind of anger.
  • Dan on recent anger: the surprise-party drive and getting lost cooling off 1:21:52–1:29:12
Continuing his answer — and jokingly tied on air to the correlation between 'Dan, anger, and speeding' — Dan tells two recent stories. Rushing his family to Stacey Hardkopf's surprise party for Steve, he drove 90 down I-80 fuming while everyone else played a music game, then snapped the radio off in anger. Another night he drove out on gravel roads to cool off, got lost as the sun set, and ended up mad at himself for ruining the moment: a pattern of getting mad, then mad at being mad.
  • Song: 'Come To Me' (from God's perspective) 1:29:12–1:34:25
To bring the room back down from the anger talk, Kevin introduces another song co-written with Troy McBroom, describing its theme: God's freedom-of-choice plan — people take their own path, make their own mistakes, and God stands there saying 'come to me,' like a picnic with sandwiches. He performs the upbeat 'Come To Me,' and the hosts react that it feels calming, almost like a lullaby.
  • Comedy bit: 'Silk Sheets and Rainbows' 1:34:25–1:43:10
The episode closes with an improvised rapid-fire comedy bit styled as a radio DJ show: 'Live from the Remax Studios in downtown Des Moines,' featuring characters like Slowjack, riffs about boxers and underwear left in the rain, and one-liners about Christians not having gas. It signs off as 'Silk Sheets and Rainbows' with 'My name's Ben.'

Full transcript

Live from the Pathway Studios in Johnston Proper, you are live from the Path. My name is Ben Foost. Thanks for being with me tonight. I hope you're having a wonderful evening. Mine's so far so good. I about fell asleep about four hours ago. I think I did fall asleep looking at my computer screen. I was just, all of a sudden I thought, I have no idea what's happened in the last ten minutes. And I don't even know what I was looking at. It was just one of those things like, I wonder if I just fell asleep. Like, have you been tired all day or it just came upon you? I've been tired for about a year. It was the middle of February. I'm trying to think of the last place that I fell asleep where I had no intention of doing so. So, I mean, this happens to me where I act like I'm not tired by it, but I intentionally fall asleep on the couch or the chair. I was like, oh man, I don't know what happened, but I totally fell asleep on purpose. Can you imagine? How did that blanket get on me? Where did that pillow come from? This is awkward. I'm trying to think of the last place where I legitimately fell asleep without intending to do so. Does that happen less and less as you get older? Like you're more cognizant of people waking up or putting stuff in your ear or something while you're trying to sleep? I don't know. Scoot on up there, Kevin. Since I'm a very young man myself, I can't really answer that. Okay, no, no, I understand. Well, you guys will look at me like, yeah, old guy. Yeah. You would know, gazer. Tell us when you fall asleep. Does that effedent really work? Is that that's called effedent? Fixedent.

No, no, no. That's the dentures. Yeah. It's the denture thing. I'm not thinking the right thing. That's what I was trying to say. The denture thing. Yeah, that's fixed it. Fixed it. Forget it. Okay, cool. It's awesome. Yeah, okay, go ahead. Yeah, never mind. Kevin, when's the last time you fell asleep unbeknownst to yourself? If I would have known, it wouldn't have been unbeknownst to myself. I mean, you would have known when you woke up, smarty pants. Everyone's got a joke. Probably on a Greyhound, which is not a place you want to fall asleep. Oh, now tell me about that. This is Kevin Leonard. I hope you've met him. Tell me. Maybe on a Greyhound. When are you taking the Greyhound? Like, where are you going? I'm just a world traveler, man. What is it like? $79, you can go about anywhere, can't you? Like, round trip. That's crazy. I frequented a couple trips to Chicago. Did you do the super bus thing? The mega bus?

Yeah, the mega bus. I've done the mega bus. Is it as bad as I hear? It's kind of a cluster, but, you know, you're getting what you pay for. If you want to go to Chicago for $2. That's not a bad price. It's not a bad price. That's not a bad price. But you get what you pay for. Is it fast? Is it, well, it would be the speed limit. It's only, you know, it's only an hour or two more than if you were just this fast. It's only an hour or two more than, you know. Like, you can drive there in five and a half hours. It takes like seven. They make, oh, yeah, they got to stop once in a while. Well, they only stop, like, once. Is there a livable territory? And that's the thing. If you don't, you know, if they stop and you get off and you don't get back on, oh, too bad. But, you know. It's only two bucks. It's only two bucks, exactly. They don't care if you get back on or not. Well, that's fierce. We should broadcast live from a Greyhound. That sounds like a ton of fun. I don't know. We got to at least run a party bus. Yeah, we got to, you know, something's got to go on. All right. Hey, you're listening to Live from the Path. Thanks for being with us here tonight. We got plenty of stuff going on.

We are in studio with Kevin Lindgren, our good buddy Kevin, who, and Dan, I don't know how we're supposed to take this, but after he was in the studio the last time, he left. He packed up and left tower. He pretty much said, there's really nothing left to do here. I mean, I feel good. I've hit the peak. I've hit the peak. Oh, I thought he was going to say I've hit bottom. No, no, no. I said I've hit the peak, you know. Surely there was something better elsewhere. There was nowhere left to go here. All right. I had to move to the next town. I like his angle. So I think we're going to take his angle on it. So we're blessed by his presence. He's back here. He's going to share some more of his songs. We're going to hear about kind of his new life. You kind of have a… Things really changed quite a bit. Yes, sir. So I'm interested in that, and maybe we'll share a little bit of that with us. It's mostly the same hairstyle, though, isn't it? A little bit. A little bit. A little shorter. I could use a new cut, though. Really? I feel like it's pretty short as it is. You're looking good. It looks like your winter cut. It is my twice a year.

I get the twice a year cut. I like to do on and off. I like to cut my hair one month and then shave the next. And then cut my hair again the following month. Just to keep people guessing. Yeah. Just to keep the hat on. They never see it anymore. Yeah, I would much prefer to just keep the… Here's what I have to do, because I'm going bald in the middle, is I have to cut the sides of my hair more often than I cut the middle of my hair, because then it looks like it fills in a little bit better. You could just shave the whole thing. Was that… Who was I talking to Sunday? I looked, and in the middle section, there are three bald people. That was me. Yeah. I was like, look at all these bald people. It's winter. Yeah. Grow it out. We were talking about whether we needed to split the bald people up in the congregation lest the visitor come in and, you know, hey, man, bald people go here. We've got the real games actually over here. All right. So, hey, we're also going to talk about… So we were talking about… Dan was talking about anger. And it got me thinking biblically about what types of things make me angry. And I think the answer might surprise you. I think it might be surprising. So I may put the think on that, Kevin Lindgren. I want to hear the type…

What makes you angry? Like, for example, what's the one thing in your life that's made you the angriest? So put the think on that. I was trying to think of this on the way here, and I can think of a couple things. But I think it might surprise you. It might surprise… It'll surprise you, definitely. I'm ready to be surprised. I know what you're thinking in your head there. Some guy in a donut shop. And, Chad, you guys be thinking about this, because I'm interested to see what you guys have, too. Like, the thing… Now, without revealing something awful, right? I don't… Let's try to keep this at least… Let's go PG-13, all right? It doesn't have to be PG, but let's go PG-13 and change names if it's necessary. But I want to know the thing that has made you the angriest in all your days. So we'll talk a little bit about that. And then Spangler is going to join us a little bit later. Maybe we'll… He makes me mad. Yeah. Yeah. I wouldn't say he's the angriest, but he gets me. He just… He just looks at him, and I just start boiling. And then we're also going to… We're going to dish out with some more advice. This advice seems to play. So we're going to… There's some people that need some advice. They say, live from the past, I need help with my life, and I want you to help me out.

So we're going to do that. Sound good? Absolutely. I'm in. All the way. Kevin, I forgot to… I'm here. I forgot to tell you, there's some leftover chocolates in here. I saw that. Now, here's the deal. You're totally welcome to those, but they were also here last week in the same state that you see them. So, like, no… They've not moved at all. No covering, no refrigeration or anything. No decompos… Composition. Yeah. That. Yeah. I fell asleep three hours ago, and I haven't woke up. Sorry. Okay. That's all right. That's all right. Yeah. Double J's vouching for him, and I think he's right about that. He had some, and I had one today. Like, I tried a chocolate-covered Oreo ball, and it was still pretty good. We'll keep an eye on the, you know, digestive system, see how things are going. Yeah, yeah. And I'll be fine. If I make it a full two hours, you know you can eat the chocolate-covered Oreo stuff. Have you ever eaten chicken and wondered, I wonder if this is cooked all the way?

Yes. Yes, I have. Yes. And some tonight, we got this new… My brother, oldest brother, got me a pressure cooker thing for Christmas. He got one on the Home Shopping Network. He was all excited. So, I went to send him, I was like, oh, okay, you know. And so, we cook chicken in it tonight. It's like for 15 minutes. Yeah. Maybe it's 14 minutes. And you cook it, and you're like, I think it's done. And Cheryl's like, is it done? I'm like, I'm the colorblind guy. Does it look… I mean, looks like to me. Like, is there any colors in here you shouldn't recognize? And so, that's kind of my… I came in tonight thinking, well, if I get sick in about an hour, I guess it wasn't done. I don't know. But it tasted good. I thought it was really tasty. Well, you know what's problematic is when you're cooking chicken in some sort of, like, red sauce, and then it looks like it… It could be pink, but you don't know for sure. There you go. And so, that stuff freaks me out. I don't really take a lot of chances with food. I don't… I tend to overcook. Yeah. It just doesn't make it taste as good as it could. Yeah.

I would not make it as a chef. I don't like to take risks, though, with it. I'm not much of an eater. Excuse me. I mean, neither. Excuse me, Kevin. I'm not much of an eater. I find if you get it from a vending machine, it's safe. As long as it's not, like, food food. You know. Yeah. You don't, like, you don't want to buy a sandwich from the vending machine. That's not safe. I don't buy… I don't eat much. And when I do eat, I don't eat food food. I eat this semi-food that's available in the vending machine. Have you had your blood work done lately? They had this… I bought some donuts from the vending machine one time, and it had flavor bits on it. Like, it advertised it on the top with flavor bits. Except for flavor was spelled in the European style with a U. And I thought, this is not a legitimate food. And it tasted like someone had, like, had sprayed, like, spray tan on the outside of this thing. Like, it stuck to your tongue, and it wouldn't give up. Like, I think they only sell you these donuts with flavor bits on it so that you'll buy a soda next to it. Yeah, there you go. I think it was planted by the soda machine guy. I gotta get rid of this taste quick. Oh, man. There you go. What's your favorite vending machine food? Peanut M&M's. Like, oh, so yellow bag?

Peanut M&M's? Yes, sir. Okay. All right. Dan? Oh, by far. Oh, you're in peanut M&M's, too? Peanut M&M's. And if you get them out of the, like, gumball machine as opposed to the bag, you can get them for a fraction of the cost. Yeah, but that's… It's kind of not sanitary. Oh, it's very sanitary. Dan, do you distribute peanut M&M's, right? I've been known to. Okay. You just dump the bag in, right? It's not like you're manhandling. I lick a few of them. I lick the M off just to reduce the price. Double J, what do you have in the vending machine? Go ahead and think about it. We'll wait. I used to, like, when I was a kid, we'd be in a motel or something to do a vending machine. And it was, like, a big treat. I'd get a vending… Otherwise, when I was around a vending machine, I'd get, like, the snowballs, you know? Do they still make those? Oh, yeah. Yeah. It's the thing with the red on the top, right? Oh, they were white. They had different colors. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Actually, red snowballs are creepy.

Yeah, that's kind of creepy. Okay. I got the white. They have a coconut. Which, I'm not a big coconut guy. It was just… It was good. But trans fat is not an option in the vending machines, Double J. You can't just, like, say H12 trans fat. They do have the things now with the little thing next to them. So it's the healthy choice. Oh, like the healthy indicator? Yeah, the healthy indicator. Yeah, that's true. This is good quality food. Exactly. Have you ever brought a sandwich in a vending machine? Like, the ones that turn on the wheel. Yeah, I don't trust those. The ones with the Lazy Susan in it. I think you can get a sandwich from those. Yeah, you can, but… I was describing it in there a couple of years. I like your discernment given. Yeah, you want to be in a high traffic place if you're going to get a sandwich, because you've got to know they're getting… They've been rotated. Exactly. Gross. It's called the Blueberry Ugly. That's got to be nasty. I don't know what that is, but that sounds really bad. Did you ever get one where there's, like, live bait in one selection and a sandwich in the other?

No. Get yourself a sandwich and some fishing bait. Wow. Oh, man. That's harsh. All right, I'm about to keep an eye out on the Blueberry Ugly. Kevin Lindgren? Yes, sir. It's good to see you. It's good to see you again. It's good to see y'all in person. Kevin, so Kevin's got a ton going on. You can catch Kevin. So we've got some clips from the last time, and it was the weirdest thing. The last time Kevin was in the studio, we put on the show, and it went really well, and Kevin did an awesome job. And then, like, 15 minutes before the end of the two-hour show, all of a sudden, the computer, like, takes a crap. Like, the thing just dumps. That was awkward. And so we lost the whole thing. We lost the whole thing. Is that the only time it's ever happened? It happened at the Spirit Midwest Festival, too. But, like, so, you know, two times. Yeah. Ever. But, and so Kevin had to hang out again, and, like, till 2, 1.30 in the morning or something, like, recording, re-recording tunes so that we had something to put up. Yeah. Because no one's watching, you know, no one checks out the show in full. They just want to watch the good YouTube clips from people like Kevin and Double J over here. And so we had to put something up. Have you put my clip up yet?

Which, wait, which was that? I have you telling that Noah story. My ukulele? No, I didn't realize you did the ukulele. We'll have to get you in here, Dan. So, anyway, so you can catch, Kevin is, he's just about everywhere. He's the Macy's of local musicians. You can find him on every channel. And he, you can go to KevinLingrenMusic.com. You can also check out our YouTube channel. There's some stuff from him. He's on Reverb Nation. And you can get stuff on iTunes. Now, are you charging the standard 99 cents? The standard 99 cents. Okay. I think that's the way to go. That's the way to go. Although, you know, you could create a little mystique by charging a premium. Add just another dime on there. What do you think? $1.09. Can you do that? Now, actually, I don't deal with the, can you like set your own price? Or do they insist on the 99 cents? You can set your own price. Most people are going the other direction, though. Yeah, that's why. Most people are going like $0.69. No, that's what I'm saying. You can create a little bit of mystique. It's like, this guy's worth an extra dime? Yeah, you gotta get, I mean, I'm sure they take their cut. I might go like $1.02.

Okay, yes. Just to throw some oddness out there. I think that's the way to do it. Someone needs to, what Mike was talking about, this, somebody needs to be the mop-up guy. The guy that charges $1, whatever it would take, so that you can use a $20 iTunes gift card and actually exhaust it. Because if you buy 20 tunes at 99 cents, it's going to be, you're going to be 80 cents short. Gotcha. So, you need to do the math and be the one guy. Yeah, you're going to charge $1.20 and you're going to call it the clean-up tune. And you're the guy that's the last thing they buy to exhaust the gift card. And you could just title it and write a new song. This is my 80-cent song. Except I'd be the first thing they would buy, not the last thing. So, we kind of… True. Typically speaking, yes. Unless it was a special song. There you go. I'm just kidding. I honestly don't even know if I've had any sales on that. It's kind of nerve-wracking, actually, because I'm not a very patient person. And you actually get a report every two weeks that tells what your sales have been. But your first report doesn't come for two months. Oh, man. And I put them out there mid-November and they're like, okay, you'll get your first report mid-January. Can you tell how many hits you've had or something on a song? Won't know until that first one two months later. So, you'll probably assume there's a big boost tonight. This is the thing you're coming in. Yeah, yeah. Of life. Yeah. So, I'm expecting nothing. I'm wishing for something.

I think these things are going to be great. So, I tell you what. I have a lot of questions for you about some of the recent stuff you've got going on. But let's bust into a tune. Okay. What do you have for us? Oh. Would you like me to sing backup? That's okay. He would like you to back up if you're going to sing. That's right. When my wife says that's okay, I assume that's a go. Sure. We can start with something. If you may remember the last time I was here, I had featured a few songs that I wrote with The Traveling McBroom. That's right. The Traveling McBroom. As you named him. I totally forgot about The Traveling McBroom. I have a friend down in the Moni, where I now live, a guy by the name of Troy McBroom. And he is a, we're kind of a cool team because he's a great songwriter. But he's kind of shy when it comes to playing in front of people. And I don't really have that much confidence in my songwriting, but I like playing in front of people. So, you know. Right. We're a good combo. He likes to write, and then I kind of take what he wrote and put my own spin to it. So, this is a song he wrote. Do you guys want to hear it? I want to hear it. Okay. I'd like to hear it, please.

All right. Well, it's kind of self-explanatory. You'll kind of get it. But now, even if I don't get it, I'm about to say I did. Otherwise, I will embarrass myself. It makes us look really bad. I don't get it. I don't think I have this online anywhere, but I will actually go ahead and put this on kevinlingermusic.com tomorrow. Awesome. I have a recording of it. The recording is kind of cool because the recording has got some kind of bongo kind of drums to it. You'll catch that vibe. I like this already. So, yeah. It's kind of got kind of a vibe to it. All right. Well, this is Kevin Lindgren. You're listening to Live from the Path. All the troubles that surround me and all the things that I need and all the problems that have found me and all the things that I fear. And they are here before me, but they are not my own. And they are, but they are. Oh, Jesus set me free. These may seem so lonely, so dark and dim. Come and conquer many trials. All right. That was really nice. I love that. Thank you. I can definitely hear those bongos. I kind of got the theme of maybe a redeemer. I like the Traveler McBroom.

Yeah, yeah. He's got some good stuff. You know what I find? So, I really like songs like that. Songs that have kind of like a wanderer type of minor vibe to it. Like there's something going down, but things are otherwise going to be all right. I don't know why I'm drawn to tunes like that, but I am. See, I am too. Like that's a lot of what, in the Christian stuff that I write, that's kind of a lot of the stuff that I write. It's kind of like, I'm not really the kind of person where it's like, I'm like, I know everything's awesome. You know, everything's cool. Yeah. I'm more of like, I know things are okay, but I kind of need a reminder, you know, like I need that just a little reminder that, you know. Real life is happening and God's still there. Exactly. Yeah. Exactly. Even in the dark times. Yeah. Yeah. Even when you eat chicken, it isn't quite finished. Even eat, what was that? Blueberry Ugly? Hold on. Even in the midst of a Blueberry Ugly. Jesus is there. I lost the hurry. He's the whipped cream on a Blueberry Ugly. Yeah, that's it. Man. I think this sounds awesome.

Speaking of whipped cream. Hey, Speckenhauser. What's up? Not much. Oh, God. Good. So, Kevin. Yes, sir. So, the last time we talked, you were a working man here in the Des Moines area. Yes. You were holding down a gig of which you had to get there. You were working some long hours, if I remember correctly. Yes. As a matter of fact, you staying here extra to kind of do those recordings and stuff that we talked about was especially painful because you were working some mega hours. Yes. And I was working a 50-hour job back then. That's right. So, you've had a fairly major change of scenery. Yes. Tell me a little bit about it. Kind of a back home kind of scenery. Well, I've lived. I think this is the third time now I've moved to Lamoni, Iowa, which if you know Lamoni, it's the last exit in Iowa. Yeah. One into Missouri. Yeah. Two, isn't it? Mm-hmm. Past that. Yeah. Past it. Past it.

I meant to say that. It's right there. Yeah. It's right there on the Iowa-Missouri border. Okay. It's actually on 69. So. Okay. It's on 69. But yeah, I moved back down there. I've got two kids down there. So, I'd moved here because this is where all the jobs were. I needed to change the pace, you know. But I was blessed to find a wonderful job down there, which is hard to find. And so, and I did it all kind of by faith, you know, like I was telling you before. Yeah. I kind of did it backwards. I just knew it was time to move back and, you know, kind of get back to putting some certain things in priority. And I left my job here and I put notice on my apartment here. And then I moved. And then I looked for a place to live. And then I looked for a job. And I did it all completely backwards. How many days were you under a bridge? Which I actually found the place to live before I had to get out of my apartment. That's great. So, I had about two weeks on that. So. Nice. You know, and it's, you know, I think, I'd like to think that I can do stuff like that. That like I would be able to just be, you know, flexible and like wherever it takes me, things are going to be fine. I don't know if I could do it.

I just don't know that I could handle it without like having an idea of where I was going. I could. My family would make sure I couldn't. Oh. Yeah. Yeah. Well, luckily, I have supportive parents that, you know, were there to help me kind of get through the transition and whatnot. But, you know, I just, I knew it was time to do that thing. So, I mean, that was a, it's a pretty big switch. You're, you got a new job. You're much closer to your, to your kids. That's got to be awesome. Half a mile now instead of 80 miles. Can't put a price on that. No, no. No. So, that's great. Yeah. And then, and you, plus you have a dynamic change from a, you know, a big city at like a Des Moines, a metropolitan area to Lamoni, which is considerably smaller. There's about 1,200 people. There's not one traffic light at all. So, there's just, there's just as many Amish as there is. Where do they put the speeding cameras then? They don't, they, they're not. They're actually the cop that sits in the, you know, the, what's it called? The auction. Oh. Cattle auction. Cattle auction. Oh, yeah, yeah. They sit in that parking lot. That's the speed cap.

Do they eat those fancy donuts you were talking about? The blueberry ugly? I don't know if they have that. With the little dot, the, what'd you call the flavor? Oh, the flavor bits. The flavor bits. The flavor bits. I've never, we don't, we don't have those down there. No. I'm going to have to ask that Double J bring in one of them blueberry uglies. Now I'm, I'm intrigued. I don't even know what a very ugly hit is. He says it's like a donut. Yeah. Okay. I don't know. No, it is, it is quite, it is quite the difference. I mean, you're 80 miles from, well, you're 30 miles from fast food, you know, and Walmart and all that kind of stuff. You know, it's, you know, there's no TV, no radio down there kind of thing. So what's this doing for your ability to go out and perform? Well. It's probably not also as many places to. No, it's hindered that. There is a great place down there called Belinda Street Coffee House. Do a lot of playing down there. It has hindered that, but also anyone that's watching that knows me knows I don't drive in the winter anyway. If there was off lake out there, you would have not seen me tonight. So you did mention that when we were talking about booking. You're lucky. So I had kind of, I had kind of planned on, and here's the thing, here's a nice little segue, if you will. I kind of decided to put my focus for the next few months on the two CDs that I'm recording.

And then I'm hoping March to really start. I had, I had made some very good contacts here in Des Moines and was playing some pretty regular places. So kind of hoping to use the music that I'm recording as kind of a catapult to get back into playing live again once the weather goes away and gets a little warmer. That seems like quite the handicap you got there, not being willing to travel. A little bit, a little bit. I know you're spring and summer, a little fall. There are a few places down there, and I am kind of putting together an idea of a, I think I finally have enough of the Christian music that I can put together a show, hour-ish kind of show of something like that. So I want to kind of try and promote and research some churches down there, maybe just doing like a special night, you know, kind of just putting on a little show kind of thing. Now, will they let you like print up, print up some banners and when you get your CD release going, take the mega bus to Chicago, put the banners on the bus and call it your Midwest tour? Do you think, that's a pretty, that's a pretty, that's a pretty cheap tour. I don't think they'll allow you to do that. If we go and distract the driver. I feel like, here's what I think, I feel like the guys at Greyhound can be convinced. I bet for a price. Like probably not that mega bus. No, but you know. I did play in Chicago for the band I was opening for and the Sound Man. Ooh. Excellent. So that was a good gig. Was it a nice venue though? It was a nice, it was like a known venue, but it was like a Monday night and you know. That's what happens here on a Monday night. Yeah. Did the band you were playing for tip you or anything? No. Leave any money in the jar?

It was one of those deals where there was like six bands on the bill and I was the first one and it was like 6.30 on a Monday night, you know. Everybody's still at work. Exactly. Or having supper. Exactly. It's like downtown Chicago. People aren't going to go see some guy they've never heard of, you know. I would. That's why you're not the hit man in downtown Chicago. You're just flipping through the news. Kevin Lindgren. Yeah. I'll go pay to see that guy. You betcha. You betcha. He was on that live from the bath. That's right. Exactly. That's what'll happen. Well, cool. So, I mean, that's, have you seen any changes in your songwriting based upon that move? I, yeah, but, and it was almost even just my move up here kind of started that change. I think being down there has allowed me more time to kind of focus on that and grasp that a little bit. But, um, but yeah, definitely over the last year, there's been more of a change in the direction of my songwriting that is more, more meaningful, I guess, got more meaning to it. Yep. I spent the first half of my whatever trying to be a musician, doing the whole, you know, woe is me. I got a girl and I lost a girl. I'm trying to get the girl back. That's, you know.

Yep. That's what every guy does at first, you know. Yeah. That kind of thing. And then, that usually sells pretty good songs too, though, because everybody's been there. It does. I fall out of love. Oh, somebody did that one. Do not start with that song. What just happened? What a mistake. And now I've just kind of gotten into, now I just use it more of like a therapy. Now it's more just like sitting around thinking like, what's wrong with me? And I just kind of start writing that, you know. The, the, uh, the acoustic journal of Kevin J. Lindgren. Exactly. Introspection. Is that your middle edition? It's R, but J kind of works. Kevin J's pretty cool. That'll be your, your, uh, stage name. Kevin J. Kevin J. Just change the middle initial. Exactly. That's it. That fixes everything. That's why it hasn't worked. I bet if you do that on the iTunes, you'd sell a lot more. Kevin J. Because no one can spell Lindgren. That's why. There you go.

That's why I would never become a musical artist. Yeah. Yeah. No, Spakenhauser is not a name, not a household name. Yep. SP. Actually, actually, that'd be kind of cool if you wanted to the name, the mysterious D. Because like that's, I would assume if people. The mysterious D? If people misspell Lindgren, I assume they're, they're, they're leaving the D out. Like I would, I would. Yeah. Yes. I get a lot of people that leave the D out. Yeah. Yeah. So, so you could be the mysterious D, Kevin J. Lindgren. These are just ideas. We're terrible. I'm sorry. Things I'm throwing out there. I'm normally all for you, Ben. That was terrible. You're a serious D. We usually charge a lot of money for this kind of advice. You're listening to Live from the Path. We're live in the studio with Kevin Lindgren. Make sure that you check him out on KevinLindgrenMusic.com. I posted a link there in the chat with a D. I like the mysterious D, Kevin J. Lindgren. I see that as a shirt. Yeah. The mysterious D? Yeah.

Just have the word Lindgren and then the D is like fading out. It's tough to get shirts to fade in and out like you're talking. No, I wasn't saying fading in and out. I was saying fading out. I mean, I'm sure they're making headway in shirt technology. I feel like that's not going to happen. Vegas light D kind of thing going on right here. But when you say mysterious D though, it kind of makes me think like, like a superhero kind of thing. Like the D's got to have like a mask and a cape on. He's got a mask and a cape on. There's so much you can do with this. Just coming right out of a phone booth. In my Megabus tour. You can also check him out on ReverbNation.com, Kevin Lindgren. He's on Facebook. Like him on the Facebook. He weeps at night if you don't like him. He can tell. Here's the deal. The Facebook will tell you how many people have looked at your page. And if I get 10 people that look at it and only one person that likes it, I know that nine other people do not like me. And Kevin does that same way. He just, he can't take it. It takes him out for weeks. He's all hopped up on Robitussin and candy bars. See, no, that actually did. I was actually complaining at my family Thanksgiving dinner over this. Someone asked me about the iTunes stuff. And on the iTunes, you can actually like songs now. Oh, yeah. And you can leave reviews and whatnot and all that. And I have three songs on iTunes.

And two of them had been liked. And one of them hadn't. And I'm like, what's wrong with that? Blind study. Exactly. And then, you know, I didn't, you know, I wasn't all happy the other two were liked. I was just devastated. Yeah, yeah. Why do you hate this one? My next song is going to have a lot more minor chords. Why me? Why me? That was the only minor chord song I did. I'm down now. Oh. I don't have any more of those. He's like me. All right. So let's, Adam, what else you got for us? I got all kinds of stuff. All right. I'm ready for more tunage. Tell me about the next one. Okay. Sure. Why not? We can do a, y'all are going to be the guinea pigs. Okay. Okay. Just wrote this on. No, no, no. Wait, I'm sorry. Can I be a cross between like a werewolf and a guinea pig? Like a were pig?

Sure, sure. Is that fine? I just want to straighten this out before we get going. It's still not cool, Ben. That would be pretty awesome. See? You can be the were pig. The mysterious D. Kevin J. Lindgren. The were pig. You're going to have a really long name by the time the show is over. Yeah. This is a little something that just came out Thursday. Wait. Came out where? Like here. Like out of me. Like this is the first time ever being, this is like the debut right here. Out of me. I've never heard it quite said that way. It makes sense. I like it. It does. I'm cool being a guinea pig right now. I was just sitting around trying to figure out what the heck I was going to do for you fellas on Thursday. I like that you put thought into this. This just started coming out. Unlike myself. What's the gist of the tune? What's it about? It's called Don't Let Me Stray. Okay. It's kind of like what we were talking about earlier.

Like I'm the kind of person where it's like, you know, I know I'm solid. I know that like, you know, I got this relationship with, you know, me and God were cool. You know, we got this thing going on. But I have like, my, my, my, my, um, what's that thing? Jazz hand. No, not jazz hand. Process. Bronchitis. I can't help you, you're not helping me. A really cool shirt. I'm thinking temptation, but that's not the word. When other people tempt you, what's the word? Like a seduction? No, not self-control, but like. Your surroundings? You know what I'm talking about. I'm, you know, what's that word? I can't think of the word. Uh. When other people are tempting you? Influence. Oh, okay. Like, you know. Yeah. This is the real studio. All right. All right. So you got some influence. I'm just like, yeah, I'm just, I'm very, I'm very easily influenced by other people. You know. Yeah. Yeah. I hear. I've got, you know, temptation is easily delivered.

You know? Yeah. Yeah. I'm with you. So my whole thing is. Wait, what put you in the mood? Has someone been after you lately? Like that week? I don't mean like that. I just mean, you know, things in general. Okay. Okay. I'm with you. You know. I'm with you. Things in general. Just, you know. Um. You know what I mean. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I know what you're saying. It's just killing me because I'm trying to think of the word that I'm trying to say. And I can't think of it. I think it sounds like, uh, other people tempting you, uh, a bit negative influence. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You know, you know, but anyway, that's what I was thinking of. Peer pressure. Thank you.

My peer pressure level is like it is zero. Like, you know, it's just like, I, you know, I can walk, I can have like the most, I can be having the best day, having like the most spiritual walk in life kind of thing. Yeah. And someone can be like, Hey, you know, let's go do that. And I'll just, I can veer off so easily. Oh, okay. Let's do it. Yeah. That's a great idea. And I, and I hate, but I hate that about myself. Right. So I'll, at the end, you know, I'll just do something someday that I've just, I know is stupid. And at the end of the day, I'm just like, why did I do that? Like, I'll get so mad at myself. Yep. You know, I'm not the kind of person where I can just be like, I know I've got this solid, you know, the solid walk. I'm just, I'm at just at a point where it's like, things are very easily to strain me kind of thing. So that's just kind of what I was thinking that day. It's just like, all right. Like, you know, I, I know that, you know, I'm an idiot and I do dumb things, but it's just like, you know, you know where me and you are at, you know, and just don't let me stray. Like, I'm the kind of person where I need God to just be like, grab it. Yeah. Like bear hug me and just be like, no, you ain't going over there. Now, wait a minute. You, you wrote this song thinking of us as people to, to pressure you to do some things that maybe God wouldn't want you to do. He's afraid he would leave here a poor dresser. Good job, Dan.

It's, it's, it's, it draws me in. I just want to, I just want to wear a wild shirt. It's hypnotizing. It's ridiculous. No, I wasn't thinking of y'all. I don't ever sit around thinking of y'all. I just want to clarity. That's okay. So what's the name of the song? It's called Don't Let Me Stray. I like, I like, I have this, like this happens, like I have days where it was like this where you feel like I'm solid a lot. And then all of a sudden this thing's like dragging you a bunch of different directions. And I don't even know if it's going to like make any sense because literally I just wrote the thing like the other day. Don't downplay it. This is going to play. So we'll see what happens. Here we go. It's called Don't Let Me Stray. Okay. Well, I know that I can be too easy on myself When times are hard and I start to slide And I know that it's too easy to fall into a temptation And let all those bad thoughts arise So I pray, don't let, don't let me stray And don't let me fade from your love Don't let me stray Don't let me stray from your love It's so easy to make excuses Everybody else is doing it Why should my chance be denied It's not easy to just walk on I feel like I'm on the outside But I know there's one whose love won't deny Who walks strong Don't let me Dang it That's something that, you know, you should pray every single morning I mean, actually, you know, in the whole Lord's Prayer thing, model prayer, that's part of the whole thing Delivery from the evil one, you know, don't let me stray I like it That was awesome Thank you

I loved it I'm glad you got surprises, Will So will that be on iTunes? I think it should be I can record it eventually I like it I'd buy it tonight, but I can't It just was released for me on Thursday It should be in stores now I love it I like that It's got a good vibe to it I think the chorus is good And it's something, like, you can grab onto I mean, it's something you can really feel about yourself Who hasn't done that? Yeah, I know Who said that? You know, prayed that Yeah And, you know, just a selfish plug Both EPs will be dropped on the last Tuesday of March I believe that There's all kinds of stuff going on in March I believe that's the 30th The 30th That's like March Madness Last Tuesday of March But I'm going to have a Christian EP coming out And a secular EP coming out A Jesus EP and a pagan EP And there was none There is one song that I will play here later It's The Crossover

It's a little It's a little It's a little It's a little Oh, who is that? A little bit of Osmonds, you know A little country A little rock and roll A little bit of country I'm a little bit of country I'm a little bit of rock and roll I think that's the other way around First off The last Tuesday of March, by the way, is the 27th I don't know if my face is betrayed you But I am aghast I think you're impressed That's the word you're looking for At what has gone on on the south side of this deal It's been amazing But yes, I decided to make that The birthday present for myself Very nice April Fool's Day But you already know There's no surprise in that Exactly So, like, do you have You know exactly what's going to end up on both albums so far? Like 10 minutes early Just in case I get around the block And I forget something That's impressive Whatever it is I'll run back home You buffer How could you be So irresponsible That you have to Bust it in 10 minutes Every time you leave You don't want to see Forget something I'm early to work Like an hour Every single day And that's There's absolutely No reason for me To be there I just sit there That sounds terrible It is terrible Lindgren needs work Do you use the Vending machine at work On my lunch Yeah Have you ever had The blueberry ugly I have no idea What the blueberry ugly is But it's intriguing

I know We're kind of What you know I'm going to have to get it And I have no clue What you're talking about Can you google it I don't have my computer Double J was talking about that Yeah Yeah he gets it Is it a vending machine It's a donut It's a donut Yeah Is he talking about Like the mini muffins He didn't say mini muffins He said blueberry Blueberry mini muffins Yeah But I've never heard of Those are awesome Yeah But they do have the flavor dots You gotta go with the banana walnut He is a very good person I feel like you're a vending machine elitist I kind of That's where I get my nutrition They only got those blueberry ones Nope No but the blueberry mini muffins Have the flavor dots

We can't forget the other half Preferably gold I spilled some chocolate milk In the car And there's some myrrh Drown on the Right under the seat So gross I don't even know about that

Oh man My wife did that once In my truck Years ago Spilled like a hot It was like a cappuccino Or something Some chocolatey thing And it smelled really good I don't drink this stuff And then seven months later Dan was like That doesn't smell good anymore At this point you were just like Okay it's turned a corner I need to clean my truck It's gone somewhere It shouldn't have gone And it's foul But it was really kind of cool For a while Oh wow I guess I should have Cleaned it up Just let that soak This is great In retrospect I should have taken a rag to it Backside That didn't smell so good After a while Instead I watered it And talked to it daily And then

It got out of control Alright so Like I said We're in the studio With Kevin Lindgren He's got some more tunes for us I'm excited I like I like this stuff I'm excited for this album For the double album I think it's going to be great That was a great picture I'm willing to pay big money I'm excited Is it going to cost me big money So you're not going to Package them together right You're going to sell them Separate Can I keep calling it The double album You can't call it The salt and pepper Or something The you know Pagan Jesus The good and bad The salt and light The salt and light No that's not right Those are both positive Biblical connotations It's not like the other one

Is negative You know It's just you know The other one The sex drugs Rock and roll album That you're doing You got the one That's crying about girls And the one That's crying about God I cry a lot I'm a very emotional person Exactly I love everybody Including girls and God The Jeremiah of acoustic rock I love it This man over here I love it The weeping prophet The weeping prophet That could go good on a cape Call me the mysterious A.K.A. Weeping prophet Oh man Alright so I'm It's coming up There's the name of the two albums I love girls I love God There you go I think that's fair

Did you see that Mocha nog Yes Oh man That's delicious It's like coffee eggnog It's really really good That sounds like Something that would Make me not Agree well Yeah I actually I bought that A couple weeks Ago and had Made most of My family try It's delicious For the most part All of us loved it I can't do eggnog Yes I did Just contradict myself I say for the most part All of us loved it Yeah That's It's fantastic All right Do the eggnog Good stuff That does not Make me angry

Mocha nog There will not be Eggnog At the release party But the question is There will not be Mocha nog At the egg party We've been talking Dan was Dan was talking Last week In the sermon About anger A lot of people Got upset about that They were very bad He said some Very rude things About me If I remember Correct I believe I did Off the cuff But yeah I mean this thing Just come to me I don't know I just think of them So it got me thinking About what makes me angry I don't tend to be I realize that I don't ever get

Really really mad At things I just don't hold on To things very well But I was trying to think What's something That has made me Just really really Angry in my life And I've been thinking About it for a while And I was thinking About it also On the way here And I I don't know It's the same thing That maybe Maybe you would think of If you thought about People being really angry But that's my question To you Can you think of a time When you were just I mean flat out Just angry Yes No one's angry Yes I can I'm going to start With I love My brother

With all of my heart Trey You're my hero I will say his name Because I've told this story To many people So it's okay Okay And you only have one brother So we can hunt that down Technically I'm going to get Quite a few more When Trey and Anne Actually get married So Okay But Trey and I For a very long time We used to live In our parents house In the same room So One of the things About us Engeldinger boys Is we're both gigantic And both very Like Ill-tempered With each other Before Trey and I Ever got along We would fight

Literally on a daily basis Sometimes Many times a day I'm serious When I'm saying Two giants We would fist fight Like Literally punching each other I'm with you At one point in time Trey and I We're Sitting in our room Together I was reading a book If I remember correctly Trey was watching TV And Him and I Were just arguing about Just the stupidest Little things Just Nothing fights Like normal We just We're brothers We're three years apart We're both I think I was 15 And he was 18 And I was bigger than him So it just got bad

So him and I Just start arguing Back and forth And back and forth And Trey Like I said I love him He is the best At completely Antagonizing me Like he is amazing And one of the only people On this earth That can really Get my blood boiling He knows what buttons To push Exactly He's very good At that Was very good At that With my dad And with everyone He knows And one day Him and I Were just Minding our own businesses Getting away with Just dealing with each other And him I cannot remember Exactly what he said

But fights started Escalating Escalating Escalating To the point That we Started calling each other Very horrific And bad names I knew which words Made him extremely angry Calling him this And then he knew Which words Made me Hulk out And get extremely angry And start Becoming 19 feet tall And green But It ended up And escalated To the point That I had Grabbed him By the shirt And I Threw him Over my bed And through Our wall So the fight Started

With him and I In our bedroom And I threw him Through Both sides Of our wall And he landed In our front foyer A foyer Yes You're a Frenchman Excellent So it was a cultured throw I was taking him from Just a regular Bedroom to Hey Enjoy the foyer So He landed on the ground And hit it pretty hard And I was staring at him Through our wall And Trey's not a small guy either So It was A substantially Large hole in the wall I mean It was Yeah Noticeable The landlord

Would have maybe noticed It In the exit Yeah And And you know Trey and I My parents were gone They were Down in Texas For a big Meeting So And I had about Four days To either drywall it Or Duct tape it And spray paint it white And then me sit there With a little needle And try and Make texture And spackle it a little bit That hurts So As you can imagine Seeing strips of duct tape Over A good Five Six foot Hole in the wall Yep

Yep Yep Yep My parents came home And immediately My dad kind of Walked past it He was exhausted From driving all the way Back up to Texas Walked straight to his bedroom My mom I kid you not Look Just walks right In the front door Immediately I'm staring at her Because I'm really hoping That I can draw Enough attention away from her That she won't Immediately see The duct tape Spackling job That we did Rather than using The four days To drywall I can't believe you went With the duct tape Yeah We were lazy Let me hear the end of the story

I feel like That was going to be a mistake It did not pay off At all I mean it was A terrible decision So my mom looks at me She's like Hi sweetie Oh my gosh It's so good to see you We've missed you And looks at the wall And I'm like She stopped mid-sentence This is not good And so She looks at me And I can just kind of tell You know I need to go To the living room She didn't have a temporary We're about to have A family meeting And Trey Got screamed at And my brother's name And my brother's name is very long So we could gauge How mad my mom is At how much of the name She used And she yelled Harvey Young

Trey Engeldinger the third Which meant Oh no We need to leave the house now But Trey and I Walked to the front room And she We explained the situation My dad was sitting there Trying not to laugh As he's sitting on the couch With Trey and I On either side Of him Like chuckling And my mom's getting even More angry because of it It ended very badly But it all escalated From something stupid Just nothing Yeah it truly does Me throwing him through a wall Out of complete and utter anger And no one else On this planet Has ever gotten me that angry He's the only one So it was him Poking my buttons And calling me I think it was just one name That completely escalated Would you like to share that?

I can't call that Oh is he? I can't That's why I'm saying very One of those Horrendous names Yeah it was something So terrible That I refused to say it On this This show We had those names That the dad was going to As kids But I mean I hulked out Like I threw him He was off the ground In air Then threw a wall Both sides Man I can't tell you That I didn't feel Really awesome Right as I was doing it Because I was like Yeah Like I just threw My older brother Threw a wall feeling But then ten minutes later It was like Aw crap

I just threw my older brother Threw a wall feeling So Yeah That's my I was extremely angry story Biggest angry Alright Alright Never been that angry before Now do you feel like You could get to that point again? I have spent the last couple years Making sure that I never will I have been Slowly Lengthening my fuse I don't let Trey get to me Anymore like that at all I have stories upon stories About how my knuckles Have all been broken And all my hands Have been broken I've broken my wrist Just did a lot of stuff Just from me getting angry And hitting stuff Hitting things Throwing people And I have grown up A lot and matured from that Where there's absolutely No point for me

To ever get to that point Ever again And it is Something that I Have a personal pride To myself That I've definitely Take it upon myself That I need to If I'm ever getting Close to that point That's one of my Biggest coming to Jesus Moments Is I go straight to God I really need your help Right now Please don't let me Get to that again I thought it would Make me angry You wouldn't like me When I'm angry Lord I need your help I just need to Thrill this guy Through the wall No I don't need like Hey Make me Samson Real quick And just let me

Pull down This whole temple Right now So no It's just It's I have not gotten To that since And I had never Gotten to that before And I hope that's The only time That ever happens So At least that level That's pretty angry You're a pretty angry fella Not anymore Okay good Working on it What about What about you Linward Do you ever get Really upset I don't think I could ever Throw anyone Through the wall I think that's fair I don't think I could pick Somebody up But take

No never mind Don't take that If I could I'd throw you Through the wall Too weak and frail From my non My non eating I'm gonna write a song About throwing you Through a wall I will I don't I don't I don't Mine's more Mine's weird Now you're You're saying that As if Troy's Was not weird Yeah I threw My older brother Through a wall Mine's more like I don't know Like I It seems For me to say it It's kind of like Double Sided In a way Yeah

But like What makes me Angry Is people That get angry It's almost Kind of like You know Offense No seriously It's what Gets me angry Makes me so mad Yeah what gets me Angry is people That get angry Over the dumbest Little things If I get hit With a guitar Right now We all know why So No but yeah Just people That get angry Like that Over the dumbest Little things You get angry At the crazy driver Who's obviously Angry at someone else Road rage

Like even worse Than that It's just like Stop getting so angry Why are you so angry Yeah Just like Even just Not even like Like worse than that Like you know The lady You know The person that'll like Go to the store And they won't have The blueberry whatever No more blueberry Ugly Whatever it's called The blueberry what I want a blueberry ugly We'll go to the store To get the blueberry ugly And they won't have it With flavor dots And it'll get them So mad that it'll Ruin their whole day And they'll just You know Take it out on every Single person in their day And just be

A jerk to everybody You know what I mean Like that kind of thing You're the secondary Level of anger Where it's Their anger makes you angry Right Like just That gets me frustrated When you get angry Over the dumbest little thing And that just like Is the focus of your whole day It's the seven degrees Of Kevin Lindgren Exactly So here's the problem Is I immediately have this thought Of like A Kevin Lindgren Cuckoo clock Of which there are Two Kevin Lindgrens And like It strikes the twelve And then the one comes out And he's like Why are you getting so angry And they're like Why are you getting so angry And he's like Why are you getting so angry Stop being angry

That's what gets me angry Is people that get angry And it's not weird That's understandable That's awesome Well it would I guess if you were like In a normal mood And then you saw a guy Getting angry And then that got you angry Maybe that is kind of weird Well like Sorry Not like that I'm not seeing you As a good counselor Why are you so angry Dr. Kevin It just makes me so mad What Get out It just starts growing Are you serious That'll be thirty five dollars At the window No but you know I don't know if I'm Exploring that But you know what I mean People that let that Be their whole focus They went to Wendy's And they got a burger

With no lettuce And they left the lettuce On it You know what I mean And they let that Ruin their entire day And they take that On everybody else That's what makes me angry People that hold on To that kind of stuff And just make that The focus of their whole day You know what I would say Does that ruin your day That ruins my day Because you know what I would say Thank God I had enough money To get the sandwich at all Here's the lettuce Throw it in the street You know I didn't want the lettuce There it goes What happens if If someone gets angry Somebody threw lettuce In the street What happens if Someone gets angry You get angry About that someone Getting angry And then

Just so happens There'll be a dude Sitting next to you That gets angry About people getting angry About other people That's that It's the That's what it is You know what makes me angry Is that I let Because I let them I let their getting angry Make me angry And that's what makes me angry He angers himself even more I get mad at myself And you punch in the mirror I see this becoming Extremely violent After a while I get mad at myself For letting them Get me mad Over them being mad Over some I apologize for ever Making you angry For my angriness It's alright Just Don't throw me Through a wall Nor your brother

Oh yeah Oh excellent Now I punched a refrigerator Once That hurts It hurt It did hurt That is terrible Why do I have two guys That can share a story And both have punched A refrigerator I've always thought If the substance Refrigerators just Look at you wrong They don't Yeah but if they're Harder than you Why would you punch Why are you looking at me like that Yeah I don't I've never been angry To the point of which I'm willing to harm myself In the process No but see It just feels wrong Oh man The refrigerator was about You know A

Yay size of the person I really wanted to hit You know So I was like It looks comparable It's correlations right there Exactly It looked comparable Like a fridge I'm gonna go punch a fridge And break my hand Exactly And you don't hurt the other person In the process I can't use that No one has ever looked like a trailer to me And I've hit a trailer Not Not the church's trailer I promise That's between you Between you and God Yeah And damn for explaining the dent in the trailer High school football was great for that Because you could just Beat people up legally Every single day Yeah I'm kind of frail I wasn't much of an athlete I wasn't much of an athlete But I loved playing football I was the

I was the glee kid That got put in the lockers By that high school Oh sorry Yeah No comment Yeah That was me I was the big strong guy But I wasn't a bully So I I'm I don't feel I'd feel I would have felt really bad When you saying that If I was a bully I'm so glad I wasn't The chat has made the assertion Troy That you only tell stories That make you look ridiculous I only tell stories That make me look ridiculous Yes And that Dan wore that same shirt last Monday This one? Yeah Did I really? That's what the chat said And Kevin Lindgren was wearing that same shirt last night I didn't hear that from the chat Yeah I was going to say That's just gossip

That's just That's just And that's what happens when you come from a small town Gossip Everybody knows everything about everybody Same laundry as yesterday Isn't it the same shirt he wore yesterday? So here's the They talk about Yeah they whisper in the grocery store That's the same shirt he had on yesterday When he was in the other store Did you see Kevin Mysterious DJ Lindgren? I hope he gets a new shirt for his album release I'm going to be at that album release party with Mokinok I kind of like that shirt though I mean you look good in it It is a nice shirt I do try Yeah Cleaned up a little bit It goes well with the paint we have on the walls here That's why you didn't sit at the gray wall You sit in the homey kind of fireside red wall That's right Alright So here's what I I could not come up with a single time Of which I feel like I was really really angry But what I figured out was Is that I don't I'm

I'm likely to handle Situations in which It would be generally understandable to be angry Very very well But then situations when it's completely inappropriate To hold on to it and be angry Like some kind of minute problem That I'm likely to hold on to And actually be upset about enough For it to affect How I like act For a few days So and it tends to be something Very very petty In which I think Someone has There's no real evidence Like something they've done to me Or said to me Could either be taken as Just fine Or like very underhanded And I assume it's underhanded And then I stew about it for two days And then I get angry about it And it's like I think my My anger is the opposite Of what is What would normally be If someone does something That should really make me mad Like let's say some guy Like just sledgehammered my car

Or whatever I'd more be like Oh man Who gets their car sledgehammered What's up with that What are you going to do about that I mean Come on Jerry signed What's up with that But someone could walk by And go Nice car dentist Or something And I would like Wait a minute Dentist What do you mean by that Three days later Ben's just sitting in the basement Yeah He called me a dentist What does he mean by that Is he making fun of my teeth Or my car That guy's got a lot of nerve Or my job I can't believe Dan wore the same shirt Two Mondays in a row And the thing is Obviously that's completely outrageous I don't hold on to things very long But things that are likely to bother me

I had something where like Some guy Did something to me at work And I'm right I'm straight up right And he's straight up wrong about it But like There's no reason for me To keep thinking about this I've had it on my mind For like a month And I can't seem to get it out of my head And I'm like And he didn't even Like there's nothing even to do There's not an apology to make There's not like a different action to take I think it's just to Here's something that happened a long time ago That I actually shouldn't be holding on to at all The black staplers Mine Not the red one So anyway Dan what about you? Anger? Yeah you know I've always had a pretty long fuse myself And of course Once you get to that point It's not always a pleasant experience But I've never had a big anger issue The thing that always comes to mind Is in high school

I was dating a gal for three Three and a half years At this point Probably three years And it was on Merle Hay Road As a matter of fact I'm driving up A buddy of mine And myself We drive up behind this truck And it's her Sitting right next to this guy We all work together At Burger King And I'm going Now he knows You know Lloyd was his name I'm going Lloyd knows we're dating And you know She's cheating This is not This is not a good thing Now My first reaction was We honked and waved And laughed at him Like this is really funny We caught him You know This is awesome You know And

And you know They were like Sitting right next to each other All of a sudden They split You know And he looked like He just I'm pretty sure He crapped his pants And I said Dan was a very assuming man At high school Well he You know Yeah So I was At least twice the size I like it So My buddy Kevin Was like What are we going to do I said Let's just I don't care Whatever You know And as I'm driving And we're going Toward home I'm getting angrier And angrier

And I'm like Wait a minute I mean This was an insult Against me It was You know Blah blah blah Yeah So I said Okay dude Take me home You know I don't know Where we were going So he takes me home And by now It's like 2 in the morning Okay So I mean You know It was dark And I decided I'm going to get on my motorcycle I knew where they were headed They were headed To some big Burger King party Which I wasn't a drinker So you know I was like Well Sometimes I hung out there For the fun of it

Anyway So I'm going to get my motorcycle Because I can't go beat him up In my car I have to drive up In a motorcycle You know And You know I put on my My combat boots They were My dad's combat boots From the army And my leather You know Coat Riding coat And my leather gloves I love this story I know And I'm like If I'm going to do this I'm going to do it right You know And I'm all dressed in black You know And I put on my My black helmet And it has the Blair and Johnny Cash The tinted You know I think

Now at 2 in the morning You don't want to wear it Right Yeah But I also didn't want to Take the time Because by now I'm like No I really need to Go find this guy Yeah And Get on my bike And it's out In Saylorville And I'm flying And I'm going At least 70 miles an hour Around this little 25 mile number corner And hit a pile of sand And it just Right off in the ditch I don't remember anything I remember seeing the sand And I remember thinking If I turn It's going to be worse You know Yeah I just went over And I don't remember anything I mean I wasn't hurt My bike was

Hurt Not My bike was hurt And all I remember Is later on My buddy He was following me I think he wanted To see the show And Anyway All I remember later Is he's saying Dude Let off on the throttle I was like in shock You know Because I'm going Trying to push the bike out I'm going to get this guy You don't know I really got to get him You know And somewhere in there It clicked I mean actually I wasn't hurt I think I had a headache The next day or something If I didn't have my helmet on I would have been dead I never found my My shield Because I hit

I had a rock Hit right in the forehead Oh And that was the only Thing on the helmet You were a Goliath I would have been It would have been Goliath Yeah And the guy would have been Carrying my head around It would have been awkward But I remember Consciously saying to myself This is not worth it No girl is worth it No guy No nothing Nothing is worth That kind of anger And I honestly Haven't been that angry Since then I just have When something came up I just dealt with it I walk away I just process it At the same time I get petty things Like you said I'm kind of like you In the petty things Because in general

Lazy people make me Really angry You know And I And not like I just walk by And see someone Sitting down Like But lazy boys Are you taking a nap Are you not working I like I mean I honestly And usually It's not like Just like Oh you're not Raking your leaves Well I'm not either You know But I'm talking about Like important stuff And like Yeah I don't Sometimes I have to control myself I think I don't get how There can be Seven people Scurrying around

Doing teardown And five people Sitting there Talking and Doing nothing I can't comprehend Doing nothing It doesn't It doesn't even In my brain I think You can pick up a plant You know I get if you don't Want to carry a speaker Yeah And every once in a while I have to check myself And just go You know Take a breath Take it easy Step back Things will be fine And it's like Because Honestly You know They didn't sign up for this Yeah right You know I mean They're here It's just nice

They're here And everybody's having fun And is having a great conversation But Every once in a while I have to correct myself On that about Twice a year You know And I never say anything I just Anyway That's my story All right Where's some angry fellas In here man I'm gonna go punch a wall We got like There's a Holes in walls We got Motorcycle accidents We got Ben With his Dentist comment I'm I'm And I'm just frustrated By all y'all You guys are Ticking me off I think Kevin Sitting over here Like

Oh man And they give me Week-old snacks You got upset Dennis Are you serious That's ridiculous I really I couldn't I felt that Like I I thought I had An ingenious topic Here Like we're talking About anger I just don't I don't get angry I just don't I can't hold It shows up That's not a bad thing Well But sometimes I feel like Perhaps you're not You're not Exposing yourself You're not exposing yourself You are not opening yourself up to You're bottling it all up Yeah Which I don't think is the case But like

Sometimes If I see other people And they have Certain emotions And they're expressing them To a certain amount And And I I feel like Maybe I've kept myself From getting there Because like The type of person That opens himself up To like Certain levels of emotions Is also the person That may be more prone To be angry about things It's just They're just more They wear more stuff On their sleeve And so like It's very good In some regards But there are other regards Where like Someone might be You know Like They're having some sort of Sort of Hard time

Or like A real heavy situation Has come upon them And like I don't have anything But you know Casual conversation To say Hey man So and so Was just Was having a real trouble It's like Yeah That stinks Like I don't I don't know Now Sunday afternoon After the sermon Usually my best stories Come after the sermon I'm like Oh that's what I've worked You know Because I I just don't have That many anger stories You know Yeah So I have to go back To well back When I was in high school You know That's

I don't even want to Use the motorcycle story I've used that before At church But it hit me Just a few weeks ago I mean a few months ago I was I was just plain Ticked off Totally Totally took the whole family Just shocked them They had no clue Where this came from It was It was the day Stacey Hardkopf Was having a big surprise party For Steve And they had It was all special You know Just come back From Afghanistan And it was real special They wanted to keep A secret undercover You know And it's like Okay guys Here's the time We gotta leave We're gonna do this

We're gonna go have pizza We're gonna meet this place We can't be late Because then he'll see us Right And for whatever reason Everybody was like And I'm waiting in the car Like you know You know Let's get going And for whatever reason I was getting madder And madder And madder And madder And we're getting in the car And I'm like going 900 miles an hour Down 80 And they're just In this happy mood They're like Turning on the radio And I can't remember They were playing some game Something about music You know And they Oh let's get this song Blah blah blah And oh they had Their iPod thing Or something

You know Name this tomb Type of thing And I'm turning off The radio I'm like Guys turn it off I don't say anything And they're like You know They turn it back on Oh no And I'm just getting madder And madder And madder How dare you turn it back on And I turn it back off I'm like I'm the driver here You know And I don't even remember The whole thing I finally just You know It was just It was silly It was just I can't remember There was some question I said As long as you disrespect me Whatever blah blah blah And they're looking at me like They have no idea

What's going on There seems to be A correlation between Dan Anger And speeding I don't know You're right Yeah You're a total James Dean Because I've always Probably because my mom Always said Growing up If you're ever mad Don't get on a car You know That's a weapon I think that should be A rule of thumb Yeah Don't let the sun Set on your anger I wasn't like mad I was just trying to get there On time Yeah It wasn't like But I was just mad While I was driving And then I decided I was going to die I thought I could just

Feel my heart pumping I'm going to blow an artery They're going to show them That's the time I got mad And see When I get mad I get mad And then I get Like I said I get mad And then I get mad At myself for getting mad Yeah This is stupid Exactly Because out there You know Out there where I live Yeah Lots of gravel roads And you get You get mad You need to take a drive You can just get in your car And take a drive You know Cool off a little bit You know Well I started I just There was one night I was just getting all heated I had to just go take a drive

You know And there's all these gravel roads And once you get out there It's just farmland And you know Amish And no No streets Or labels Those Amish They really get you going Change that shirt Yeah you'd fit right in Wearing the same shirt every day I made seven of these I'm driving You know And it's kind of You know Sun's kind of setting Kind of thing You know And I just start driving I'm cruising I got the windows down And the music going And I'm just driving And just trying to cool off And blow off some steam And the longer I'm out You know The sun's setting It's getting dark And all of a sudden

I go I have no idea where I am And that just ruined The whole movie Because I got mad at myself Because I got lost And I had no idea where I was And then I'm mad Because I don't know where I am And then I'm mad at myself For even doing the whole thing And then I'm mad at myself For being mad And then I'm just I'm mad at myself Because I ruined the moment Because the moment was to go out And you know Blow off steam And have a good time I'm mad I'm not mad anymore But that makes me mad Exactly This is ridiculous I get mad over dumb things And then I get mad at myself Yeah I don't know that I ever feel More immature Than after I Have slammed a door There is What was the point of that

I mean And I usually Like I think I may have I may have left our house once And I think I went to the gas station And came back Within you know Half a mile And it was only because I had already walked out that far And I would have had to You know Completely humble myself And go back in But since I had already walked Across half the yard I just kept going And went into the car Now I'm stuck And I have no idea What it was about But I'm sure it was ridiculous But like You know Every once in a while I'm kind of passive aggressive About something like Maybe I'll Maybe I'll Be going about my Day to day business And will be in some sort of Argument with my wife

Or whatever And maybe I'll Move something a little bit Harder than was necessary And it's like What did you have to do that for? And he's like I did it normal As if I'm always like Moving Like pushing the toaster down Really hard Or whatever I'm rough on things I just see this sneer On Ben's face When he's doing It's I showed you There's no level Of immaturity I do my day to day Living with extra vigor When I'm upset Yeah Sitting there with Like a pain Writing And it's It makes me angry Because it's embarrassing You're like Why did I Why did I

Scoop to doing Something so ridiculous Like shut the door hard That's a good one That'll show that Now my wife knows Who's boss around here The man who shuts doors hard Yeah I quite often Will get angry Because I mean My expectations Are so high But I don't tell them Nobody knows my expectations Why don't they just know You know Why don't people just Know what I expect And then it just gets me upset Then I get mad at myself Going well how could How could they That's stupid To be upset about something That no one knows You know Yeah I mean It just doesn't make sense And then I get mad at myself And then

Yeah Yeah That happened Yep Alright You were listening to Live from the Path We're in the studio With a very angry Kevin Lindgren And Maybe just kind of To bring the whole room Back down Thank you chat For not sharing They didn't participate Kevin What else do you got For us for some tunes I can do a I'll do it I can do another one here Kind of a Goes along with the same theme I kind of seem to get Stuck on A theme And just kind of Seems to be the same way With every song It's kind of a different way But One thing I kind of like

That I think is cool About this Godfellow Is The fellow named God Is that Is our like Freedom of choice Like I know I mean I believe I believe You know that He's got He's got my whole life Planned out You know He's got everything Planned out And the way He sees it to be And he's got His whole plan But the cool thing is We don't necessarily Have to take that path You know We've got the freedom To take our own path And then Make our own mistakes You know And have our own failures

And then I kind of Feel like sometimes I'll go down this path And just totally Screw up at something And I'll look up And he's just standing there Going well duh You know You were supposed to go That way Instead of that way You know what I mean Like Just kind of slap me Against the forehead You know Like Duh You know Like You just took the wrong turn To get out with her You know what I mean Like Kind of thing It's my little Bug's money I love it So This is kind of a song That just came up Actually it's one that Me and Troy McBroom

Wrote together The Traveling McBroom One that we wrote together One time And it's just kind of It is like It's actually like From God's perspective Just kind of saying You know You've been out there Running around Doing all this kind of Dumb stuff You know And here I've been The whole time You know Just come You know You've done your thing You've had your way Now come my way Come do it with me We'll have a good time You know We'll make some sandwiches Have a picnic You know It'll be all God loves sandwiches He does He's like the Yogi Bear You know

Habakkuk's full of bologna Exactly So yeah Just non-poor This one's kind of Happy and peppy It'll get us back Out of the anger We're gonna stop Being so angry You are listening to Live from the Path This is Kevin Lindgren With Come To Me You've chosen That's led you to this place Can you see me now Can you see my face And you have chosen things Not of me I am here Can't you see That all of these things Are made brand new And all of these things Are here for you I'll say Come to me You've done it your way Now step out in favor And come to me I'm here for you And all of these things I've made brand new
