Segments

  • Show open and live-show rant
A host welcomes listeners to a live broadcast of Live From The Path from Pathway Studios in Johnston, then rants that the worship-band live recording he attended felt more like an arena show than worship, joking that the opening act was 'somebody's wife' and 'the worst of God's creations, the solo singer-songwriter guy.'
  • Hard question: 'Who are you to say Jesus is the only way?'
A host introduces the episode's hard question — whether Christians can claim Jesus is the only way to God — recalling a past concert guest who told the audience that even Christians can be wrong about Scripture, and joking about the 'Jesus song' worship band from a recent live show.
  • Worship-wars tangent: hymns, the Baptist hymnal, and the tambourine
A long comedy detour on modern worship: 'Jesus Messiah' hymn singing, a story about being scolded in a Baptist hymnal church for saying 'Amen,' a sermon on a tambourine-player 'of the highest quality,' and a rant that a good worship band needs auxiliary percussion — triangle, shaker, and a tambourine you have to audition for.
  • Hard question, part 1: culture, Scripture, and evidence
The hosts tackle the exclusivity question: our culture calls it intolerant; if the Bible is true its claims bind regardless of feelings; logic versus faith and the difference between faith and blind faith; the Spain-exists-without-personal-visit analogy for belief on testimony; historical reliability via Josephus and the four gospels; the resurrection as the hinge; and contrasts with Muhammad (who admitted he performed no miracles) and Joseph Smith (who pointed to his own book).
  • God the king, free will, and why hell exists
A host recounts a conversation where he said 'God acts like a king' and got pushback, then the hosts work through why a loving God allows hell: free will, the drowning-man rescue analogy, the vending-machine marriage analogy, sin must be paid for because God is holy, and John 14:6 — 'I am the way, the truth, and the life' — quoted to show exclusivity that is still available to everyone.
  • The Bible is all-or-nothing: no salad-bar Christianity
The hosts insist on accepting the whole Bible or none of it — if Jesus is not the way, nothing else he said counts either — and reject pick-and-choose religion: an Oprah-style 'salad bar of religion,' a misremembered Tocqueville reference, and the liar-lunatic-Lord trilemma (the hosts call him a liar or a lunatic if he isn't Lord).
  • Cemetery story: who judges and who made it
A host tells of a family cemetery visit where an angry relative complained that a deceased relative 'didn't make it to heaven,' countering with the gun analogy — you don't have to pull the trigger to be guilty — and the verse 'before they hated you, they hated me' on Christians being persecuted.
  • Penn Jillette: 'How much do you have to hate somebody to not proselytize?'
A host retells atheist magician Penn Jillette's line that a Christian who believes in hell and doesn't try to save people must hate them, illustrated with the campfire-burning-down-interstate analogy: compassion means warning people, not watching them drive into the fire.
  • The church backed away from hell — and the 'What the hell?' sermon series
The hosts argue the church has softened hell because of a false gospel, noting Jesus spoke of hell more than heaven, that Satan is not the king of hell but its biggest inmate, and brainstorm a hell sermon series — jokingly titled 'What the hell?' — after the line 'Christ said it's finished.'
  • Christian controversy culture: Perry Noble and Bonhoeffer
The hosts mock Christian blog 'rags' that stir controversy for traffic, recalling Perry Noble drawing fire from a Christian blogger, and quote Dietrich Bonhoeffer on faith: 'I gave up on modern Christianity to follow Jesus.' They add that people mostly follow people who already agree with them.
  • Upcoming Mother's Day sermon on Ephesians 5
A host previews a Mother's Day sermon idea: preaching 'Husbands, love your wives like Christ loved the church' from Ephesians 5, arguing the marriage command is a gift that builds the whole household when the wife submits and the husband loves like Christ.
  • Show business: live on YouTube, Blip TV, and the 'no-profit'
The hosts plug the show's live web broadcast on YouTube and Blip TV, invite church youth groups to request shout-outs, and joke that they are a 'no-profit' (not a nonprofit) — the show made no money last year.
  • Telling the truth is compassion: fire insurance versus 'follow me'
The hosts reject 'you can't judge me' culture: compassion is telling the truth, not watching someone drive into a fire. A host tells of mediating a friend Ted's marriage, arguing the point of evangelism is discipleship — 'follow me,' not fire insurance; run to Jesus, not just from hell.
  • Cheap grace: Bonhoeffer and 'are we too close to see it?'
After a joke about reading 'Dear Abbey's,' the hosts read a Bonhoeffer quote on cheap grace — grace preached without repentance, Christ without discipleship — and wrestle with whether Christians can be too close to their faith to see it clearly.
  • The UC Berkeley compassion study on religion and giving
A host reads aloud a UC Berkeley study finding that religious people are more likely to show generosity — religious people reported greater compassion, and less religious people gave more only after being induced to feel compassion — prompting debate about hypocrisy, the difference between compassion and love, and whether giving is a Holy Spirit byproduct.
  • Giving as a Holy Spirit byproduct: 'the least of these'
The hosts discuss generosity as an overflow of the Spirit rather than an obligation, referencing 'whoever does it for the least of these, they do for me,' and a host confesses sometimes avoiding a homeless man at a stoplight — joking 'love is a decision, not an emotion' — before urging giving that costs something.
  • 'Never give money to a guy on a curb'
The hosts argue handing cash to panhandlers isn't real help — one host says 'never give money to a guy on a curb' — and that Christians should connect with people instead of just throwing money, citing a church plan to rent an apartment in low-income housing as a food pantry.
  • The faceless poor: who are you actually helping?
The hosts challenge generic claims of helping the poor — 'who? name them' — using Sylvia, a woman one host helps pay rent for, and joke about a 'two tunics maximum' rule from the man wearing a bomber jacket over two coats.
  • Comedy bit: two tunics maximum
A comedy run riffing on the two-tunics line: if you have two coats you must give one away, so the hosts count coats and sweaters on each other, mock the 'guy from Mike Tyson's Punch-Out' look, and debate whether a sweater vest counts.
  • South Jersey Catholics study and knowing Jesus like a spouse
The hosts react to a study of South Jersey Catholics — 60% believe Jesus sinned, 40% say premarital sex isn't a sin, most can't explain salvation — and argue faith must be a real relationship: a host's wife Jera knows what he thinks, versus secondhand 'online Jesus dating service' faith where people pick a Jesus they like.
  • The 'life verse' rant
The hosts rage against the concept of a 'life verse' — picking one favorite Bible verse as your identity — after a daughter's room has a framed verse on the wall, arguing the whole Bible is your life verse and singling out verses shows immaturity.
  • The Prayer of Jabez and the prosperity gospel
The hosts tear into the Prayer of Jabez craze — the 'J-Biz' book, bedtime-Jabez for kids, televangelists who market it as a formula — arguing it twists a one-man prayer into a promise: God promises daily needs (the model prayer's 'give me my daily needs'), not a border-expanding real-estate deal. They cite David's sin with Uriah as proof God doesn't bless disobedience, and vote yes on the 'What the hell?' hell series after a chat-room poll.
  • Donut King and the youth-group swearing story
The hosts joke about a 'Donut King' donut shop and its 'lord of all breakfast' sign, then a host tells of church workday when a high-school youth swore at him and he confronted the whole youth group, ending with 'if you don't respect me, your parents will hear about it.'
  • Band updates: Syndrome of Fire, Double J, Adam Cates, festival news
The hosts update listeners on past musical guests: Syndrome of Fire recording in Nashville, Double J playing Hills Alive 2012 (hillsalive.com), singer Adam Cates performing May 19 at Green Grounds Cafe in West Des Moines, Arendelle playing shows, Sanctified recording an EP, plus Hills Alive Rapid City (July 21–22), MercyMe, Big Daddy Weave, and Todd Agnew tour news and the Spirit Midwest music festival.
  • Dear LFTP: the unappreciated bird ornithologist
The first Dear LFTP letter: a local bird expert, snubbed by a summer festival that flies in a national speaker instead, asks how to respond. The hosts read the 'Secular' advice answer ('get over yourself; only in his hometown is a prophet without honor') and agree: get over it, keep working, let the work speak.
  • Dear LFTP: the husband who triangulates his 11-year-old daughter
A letter-writer asks how to handle a husband who tells their 11-year-old daughter his side of marital disagreements. The hosts read the Secular answer (don't badmouth him to her; he's not evil, just wrong), then give their own: present a united front, never undermine each other, and discipline together — illustrated by a red-Kool-Aid-on-white-carpet story from one host's parenting.
  • Dear LFTP: the teetotaling grandma and Chip's family
A teetotaling grandmother asks whether to stay out of her in-laws' business after watching Chip's family drink heavily, her three-year-old grandson offered beer, and a drunk grandmother who 'did a jig on the table.' The Secular answer advises not drinking the Kool-Aid of other people's choices but staying engaged; the hosts add: never let a drunk person drive your grandchild, be the sane voice, and don't lecture while they're drinking.
  • Wrap-up: recap, hand sanitizer, and next week
The hosts close: recap of the hard-question show, a joke about an email accusing hand sanitizer of being a Snopes debunk, thanks to listeners, and a plug for next week's guests including singer Ryan Buck.

Live from the Pathway Studios in Johnston proper You are live from the path And you're listening to Live from the Path My name is Ben Foost It's moving in I'm gonna wear your cover in I'm gonna wear your robe See how I added that in there? The robe I thought it was pretty good That enhanced it quite a bit I thought it was pretty good See people, they don't get the full experience if they're not live You know, I like to do things as if you were going to a live show You ever been seeing a band that you really liked? Like you heard their CD or something And then you went and saw them live and they were terrible Because they kept trying to fool with the tune Because they've been singing it so much Yeah, and you're like, that's not how it goes Yeah, and they're like doing some kind of weird Let me do that for you Do some kind of weird fancy thing with it And you're like, man, just sing it straight That's how I dig it I've heard a couple bands like that I mean, these are pretty high dollar bands And I saw them in concert I'm like, you guys stink Well, you quit fooling with the tune You record it as if this was the best possible one You put it on vinyl and sold it to the masses Exactly And I come to the live show And you're screwing with it I think I saw like Loverboy or something Back in the day What? Yeah, of course you did And it was just like, no, no, you can't do that I don't remember what song it was I've only seen a handful of Live concerts? Secular concerts Oh, well, Christian artists fool with it too What's that? Christian artists do the same thing Yeah, but the time I remember it was with the secular ones I don't know why I feel like Loverboy couldn't destroy their own show already The premise of their act is already a destruction Hey, you're listening to Live from the Path My name is Ben Foost Thank you for joining us tonight I'm really excited for the show tonight We've got a couple big things going on

First, one of the questions that I was privy to a conversation this week That I thought was very, very interesting And the basic crux of the question was Who, as someone that's following Christ Who are you to say that Jesus is the only way? That God is the one God The only God The way to salvation Everybody else doesn't make it How do you know Who are you to say that? And I kind of read that And I thought, you know That's a very interesting question And I think a lot of people are there I think a lot of people look at that And they say, you know I don't want to be a fool You know And it seems so exclusive Like how you're just excluding so many people And there's other people That are so invested in their The things that they believe And it just seems so Like it could just be right In a bunch of different places You know How could we be that? And the implication being Like how could you be so bigoted? How could you be so, you know, exclusive? Right, how could you be so pious To say my God is the only God? Yeah, yeah So anyway, we're going to talk through that And there's a couple other caveats to that You know, thoughts about Christian behavior You know, especially How can I think that you're on the right track? Look at all the way these Christians are acting Which I think is also a good discussion You know, and ultimately How can you know the truth? You know, aren't we just all going to find out When you meet God? And just a preview I think the answer is yes to that It'd be kind of a good idea To kind of have a really good idea Before you meet him though But in what way, right? Yeah, yeah When you get the report card You kind of want to know

You want to have the test Kind of figured out It should be a surprise Let's hope it's not a surprise Well, I guess I was wrong Well, I think that's I think that'll end up being A good, you know Crux of the discussion anyway, right? Like, you can't If you read the Bible You can't really plead ignorance You know, you can't say I had no idea Or my buddy had no idea You know, like You just You can't plead it Because Jesus talks enough about it And the Bible references it enough That I think you have a hard time Saying that statement Right So we're going to talk through that And we'll try to get that Within the first 15 minutes We'll get that discussion fired up Because I thought I thought it was A very interesting discussion I think a lot of people are there And I thought, you know Well, how would I respond to that? What about that is true? What about that is not true? And, you know What kind of discussion Can you have from that? So, you know We're going to be talking through that What makes Christianity so exclusive And how do you know How can you be so sure? Also, we're going to be doing some We're giving some advice People need advice? They do We're going to catch up With some of the bands That have been in studio There's a lot of stuff going on With some of the bands Oh, man The people are all over the place Doing all kinds of Jesus music Traveling around

Doing a bunch of stuff So I'm going to give you Some other things on that They're probably playing live shows Fooling with it Making the song sound silly Oh, they better not Jesus Messiah Will you just sing it right? Oh, I've got to fool with it You know, the worst part Is like guys that are leading Like if you're doing a hymn or whatever You're trying to lead a worship or something I mean, these things are timeless They've been around forever And everybody that's trying to sing along with you Feels foolish When you're jacking around with it Yeah You know, actually I found this to be the I'll never forget this Until the day I die But like You know, I used to go to A more traditional church And it's funny What they have to do to hymns After a while You know, like Our music worship set Is more contemporary You know And so there's a lot more There's a more breadth of tunes to use And so it gives you A little bit more variety But like The people that are still In the Baptist hymnal And the Baptist hymnal only Is that I'll never forget it We had this worship leader And he was about Eight feet tall And he always loved to sing Power in the blood Oh, yeah And when the power part came around He tried to fit as many powers In there as he could You know That's when you were really ramped up Like revival time

You know when people Were really getting fired up Because the song usually goes There's power in the blood There's power in the blood And then he'd go There's power, power, power, power, power, power, power And he'd like fist arm it You know And everybody And he'd smile when it was done Like you guys really You got the Holy Spirit You know We're rocking And I was like Ten years old At the time I'm thinking I feel ridiculous You know I just don't know I mean nothing against the Baptist hymnal Because actually I love it But I mean It takes a lot to reinvent The Baptist hymnal wheel You know Once it's been made It kind of is what it is Yeah I remember being in college And they'd do that You know And it's about the time Church was starting to kind of Break away from it So they were kind of Clinging on pretty good You know And yeah They'd like Oh yeah You want new music We'll give you new music Power, power, power, power, power, power You know Let's get a new organ That'll With a different sound You know We'll let someone Different lead worship What? It's Harold Sick today Today we won't do the

One, two, three, four, one, two That's crazy time We gave We gave Linda tambourine You know Here's what I'm going to say And she has 270 degrees on it I'm going to I'm going to submit this too And this is This is a heads up For all you worship leaders Out there Right Unless you have A skilled musician With some very good discernment The tambourine is not for you Do not just give people A tambourine You need people Who understand the tambourine What the tambourine is for And when to use it Nothing can distract more Than a poorly used tambourine It feels like a gypsy show Yeah Exactly You know why Because most amateur tambourine artists They like to do their own choreography You know Like a Yeah Like they Yeah they throw in a shimmer You know Like a shiver Or a Or a jut out Or they like to hit their knee They like to hit it against their leg Like they're in the middle of some kind of rodeo And I'm just I'm telling you The tambourine Goes in the hands Of a skilled Second percussionist Only That is the only person Who gets a tambourine Because they They have 50 instruments They know which one to use

At the right time You don't just give it to the background singer They know when they take the egg shaker Oh And when they take the tambourine That's right Like I mean there's that fish The The Weero The Weero Yeah The Weero is usable The triangle Once again You can't give it to the main drummer Because he'll use it all the time It'll sound like dinner time No It's a big mistake Like you just You have to have some discernment On who gets to play auxiliary percussion And it's no one but a guy Specifically designed for that spot That's it Who understands his role Exactly Not that It's the It's my time to shine It's the tambourine show Yeah It's the tambourine solo I mean especially The background singer is the worst right Because they're already standing in front And then They're always the one on the right hand side Because they're right handed And so they can't do If you put them on the left side They'll shimmer into people So you've got to put them on the right hand side And they shimmer on their own And it catches the lights And everyone's distracted Looking at it going And they're tying tassels and crap to it Catching the light like a widow I'm just telling you I feel like I should start an online class Of just Here's the thing Most worship leaders have the heart for worship The heart for people

But some of them just need to They just need some basic Band knowledge And it's common knowledge With anyone who's played music For any amount of time The tambourine is a selective instrument For a selective guy And that's it The thing is Is like they're handing it over To someone who has the talent Of a washing machine Right Like as soon as it's time comes Shakes around And makes a little bit of noise That's the person you're like You know I don't have anywhere else to put them Give them the tambourine No It's the same person That'll use it through the whole song Right If you ever listen If you really sit down Even modern contemporary music Worship music If you listen to radio To Christian radio You'll hear the tambourine in there It's not like it's an outdated instrument But it goes away Like it comes in when it's time And then it leaves It's not a tambourine through the whole tune Right I don't know I don't know I love tambourine I'm glad we have this settled I'm just saying Just don't expect to see a tambourine In our worship set Without me My frown Just instantly If someone brings a tambourine I'll just frown Like one day We did have someone Just show up And we both kind of Looked at each other Like

Yeah Who approved this I don't remember that Being part of the exhibition At that point It's like I guess you still could have Just said Hey Hey We don't do the Gypsy tambourine here I think the children's church They'd like to use Your tambourine today Jesus Jesus gives me the shakes Those gifts ended We're pretty sure about that I'm going to tell you something else Okay Just real quick We're on the topic of worship here Here's the thing Worship bands Right Like some of the most Some of the biggest tunes That really bring home A heart for worship Is like the slow burners You know Like the heartfelt ones You know And the problem with those is They usually start out With one instrument And then it's a melee To see who decides To think that they get To be the next one Right So it'll start out With low and guitar And they're just singing And they're like Okay I think we're ramping it up And the whole band Never comes in at once They just start to flitter in And so you'll see Like the piano guy Look at the bass guy And go Is it going to be you? Nah

Not this time It's going to be me You know And they just kind of Tickle in You know And it's chaos It's total chaos Like it's never It's never agreed to bond Beforehand They're like Just let the spirit move you I was going to say Actually if they like Have a rehearsal Usually they do know Ahead of time Oh no I tell you that The rehearsal will not Fix that problem People will get in there And then they'll feel The spirit And they're like Oh yeah this needs piano A strong handed leader Will give the look And then they'll Put the tambourine And go away You know I'm pretty sure Like a really committed Tambourine man Is not going to see it He's not going to back down It's like Who is this guy On the stage Who's going to tell me When God wants me To rock and roll And when he doesn't That's true The Lord gave me this talent I'm going to use it For everything Am I going to fear man Or what Exactly A little big man God not man So you're listening to Live from the path

We're broadcasting Every Monday night Here from 10 to midnight At livefromthepath.org Thank you for joining us tonight So the question of the night is How can we be so sure There are so many other Major religions in the world Some people who don't even Believe in religion at all Who are we to say That our way Is the only way I was privy to a conversation This week and I thought I actually want to thank the guy Who kind of I was allowed to see it Through something that he had done And I Because I thought it was Just a great question I think it's a We should be asking that You know if I'm walking around And I'm believing something I better have an answer for How do I know There are so many other things Out there You know How can I say that my way Is the only way Well especially when that is What all of culture Is teaching In our schools And in our corporations All the whole tolerance Thing Is all about We all have All religions Are on an equal footing They're all the same You believe what you want I'll believe what I want We're all going to end up In the same place It's all one big happy thing That is definitely The prevailing attitude And thought of our culture today From childhood through adult I mean it's not like

Just a fringe group It's pretty big time Right Right And it certainly sounds nice It certainly sounds great Everybody's the same Everything is equal I mean Nobody's wrong That's nice And if you say somebody is Then you're just a big meanie Well you're intolerant Exactly And you're an elitist And if you say What I do is correct What you do is wrong Yeah Who are you to say that Okay What makes you so special And I think that's the premise Of the question So With so many other major religions In the world And some people who don't Believe in religion But maybe are good moral people Who are we to say That our way is the only way That following Christ Is the only way It talks in a circle Right Like so Here's If I If I have to You know Put this into a ball That I can hold I usually Because I've been asked this question Probably once before And I answered it poorly And I'm probably going to do The same thing here But like Classic At least our expectations Are pretty low I'm going to give you a three Right now

Because I know What the second question is Like I know What my first answer is And I know What the question is To that answer Is my answer is Is that I believe the bible is true And the bible doesn't leave A lot of wiggle room For anybody else Like if you If you read I mean Jesus talks about it at length But even the old testament Like you look at the times When God Like outright turned his back on them On the Israelites Like on his people On God's chosen people It was when they worshipped Another god Like he puts up with a lot of stuff Forgives a lot of stuff Because he's a gracious And loving god But like Like if you read If you read Jeremiah I mean He's had enough He's absolutely had enough And he consistently goes back to You worship How do you say it Baal Baal Baal Baal You worship Baal You made this to Baal You sacrifice to Baal You chose other gods You have as many gods As you do towns Yeah You hoard yourself out To pieces of wood Yes Yeah You know I mean

And this was the big one This is the one That he has no tolerance for It made the ten commandments It's the It covers the The last half of the old testament With the prophets And it's And it's a good chunk Of what Jesus talks about It's a good chunk of what Paul talks about Right So every major You know Section in your bible Refers specifically to this Like Love the lord your god With all your heart All your mind All your soul All your strength Right Because he's the He's god That's it Like Otherwise you're wasting your love You're wasting it to nothing You know On something that can't love you back That you've elevated Not that was elevated before you Before you After you During you Eternally Like God was already there Elevated With or without Your existence But the problem is The second question is Is why do you think The bible's true And then I say I just do It's a harder answer Because it It goes into More Research And history

And documentation And usually At least like me I don't have this stuff memorized I can tell you I know I've come to a conclusion Because of the things I have studied And the things I've heard Other people say Who studied it More thoroughly Than I even know how to You know And I can I leave those Conversations Those Those Studies Very confident In God's word But it is hard To just regurgitate that Well let me ask you Can Starting a relationship With Christ Be Based on a logical Decision Like Is it a logic Is it a logic Decision to be made I see it way more Where it's not Where it's a Where it's a Spiritual decision I think it can be Definitely a logic I mean you think about The very first believers It was definitely logic They saw him You know I mean It wasn't an emotional Oh I really love The way they put The chords of this song Together And just as I am

This is really I'm going to believe You know It wasn't an emotional thing It was Holy crap There's Jesus And he's alive And I saw him die And I think That's a good point too Because like God is not He is He has interacted With his people He has made himself Clear You know If it was completely On faith If he said Look I gave these people A rational logical mind And I want them Completely throw it out The window Why be physically present Right Why interact With the world In a miraculous way And the miracles Yeah There's no reason for that There's no reason for that If you're saying You will believe On I mean Faith alone Is the key But what he's saying Is like I know I made you I know how you are I know what you're Going to try to lean to And I've I've done this I've interacted With this world So that you can see You know And you're going to have

People that are going To be blind to that They're going to say Unless I see it I don't trust anybody else Unless I see it You know I'm not going to Consider it true But that's someone Who's There's a lot of things That you believe in That you have not seen I've never been to Spain But I think it's there Like there's people That have been there There's you know Maps of it It's an atlas I can say Well Spain is right there I look at a picture On a wall And say Well that's George Washington Yeah As far as I've been told I guess But I mean He could have Buck teeth and a tail What do you know About George Washington I mean Doesn't that go That kind of goes To show the Maybe not the direct Validity of the Bible For everybody But like If the Bible Is just written As a teaching Like if it had Nothing but Jesus' Parables in it You know And if it was just that It could probably be More easily dismissed Right Like it's a theory Of operation

It's a moral Compass But those teachings And the events Are tied in With chronological You know Proven historical events And so The teaching came along With you know They could prove That Jesus was alive They could prove that You know Historical People outside the Bible There's not enough Historical whatever Writings apart from Josephus You know That can verify Everything that's in the Gospels You know Word for word You know Event for event But they They proved that Jesus was there They proved that He got arrested They proved that Rome killed him You know And so That's a really good start To you know Four people Who wrote a Bible Or who wrote the Gospels In the Bible All having Carrying the same account Of what went down And Carrying the same account But differing enough That It's obviously written By a different guy You know I'm saying Like

It's not just One story And then Other guys Read that story And then wrote about it Because Like they They're close But they're A little bit different You know I'm saying Like the part Of the conversation That John caught Or the part Of the conversation That Mark caught The stuff That's in John's Gospel That's in no one Else's gospel Right Because it's the stuff That hit John In the heart And you know And Luke being A physician Covers way more You know More of a Systematic Theological Method of his gospel But still has The exact same account From John The flowery Love guy You know I'm saying Like it's the same They're the same stories From different perspectives Which tend to Prove things To be accurate Well you look at The resurrection Of Jesus Which is the foundation For our faith That's what makes

Our faith different Than all the others You know How do we know Ours is the right one You know Well if a guy dies And comes back From the dead And says By the way This is what truth is You kind of listen To it And if he had Not resurrected You know They would have Found him sometime At some point They would have Some Someone would have Either said Okay we were joking I mean There were too many people Who witnessed him First hand Over 500 At one point But that was In one point And other times He appeared To other people That there's just So much documentation That just That there was No way He didn't Resurrect from the dead Okay And no other religion Can say that You know Muhammad didn't Come back From the dead You know You go through All the different Joseph Smith He's buried Out there somewhere

You know I mean All the other Beliefs Would be religions Exactly And Jesus himself Said There is no way To the father But through me I mean And that is pretty clear It's not a Well Whatever you You know Whatever you think You know Hope you're happy You just do your thing And we'll just see You know Later on He said You follow me Or you don't see the father You know It's actually really interesting Because I had a conversation With a guy about this one time And I thought Because he asked me The exact same question He said You know How do you know Your religion right And I said Because my god Is the only one That acts like a king Because a king Doesn't put up With your crap You know What I'm saying A king says Here's the rules Here's the deal Here's what I created Here's how I rule Right A king doesn't go Let me elevate you To my position

That's not the way kings act Because you're not the king You know The king doesn't say Eventually you can become a god Like me I'm a god And if you continue To live rightly You will become a god too A king doesn't act like that A king acts like He has a kingdom And he rules over it He doesn't Have a communal You know Hippie fest With everyone else In his kingdom He says This is my kingdom This is the way it runs Be a part of it Or don't be a part of it I love you I hope you do But whatever Like I'm a king God wants everyone In heaven So it's not like He's this mean god Who's going to Judge people And I mean He is going to But it's not like He's just hoping People don't make it Or something You know He loves them That's why he went so far As to send Jesus Here in the first place I mean how far can you go To save someone And if they don't want it He's not I mean If you're out there Drowning in a lake And people are throwing Life preservers

And everything And you're just like No that's okay I'm just going down You know What can you do They drown Because they want to Well see And actually On the flip side Of that conversation I had another one Where the guy said Okay that's all well and good But you know They said Why would God let People go to hell If he loved them so much And I said You chose to Like you chose They choose that path And he's like Well Why doesn't the Holy Spirit Just change your mind for you And I said Well here's the deal Right Because I struggled with this A couple years ago I really get it And I thought I thought You know He could have created Angels and not us He did You know But he could have created Angels that would just Follow him Because he created him To do that You know But like Real love is when You choose it You know When you have a loving Relationship It's when you choose To be in that relationship Not because you're

Forced to be in it You know Like how much How much of a relationship Is that If you already know That they love you And they're going to Choose you Because they have to They don't have a choice To get out of it You know what I'm saying But you give them that choice And you say You have free will To love me To follow me And to accept the gift That I've given you Or you have free will To dump it You know And so I think that's exactly The kind of love relationship That God wants out of us You know He says I want you to choose me Because I chose you And the love is already there And all you have to do Is accept it But if you choose not to I'm not going to make you Because then that's not love That's not you choosing To love that It's not a relationship You know If you're a guy And you're trying to find A spouse You know Can you imagine Lining up a hundred women And just saying Just pushing a button Okay that's the one I want right there I want B4 You know Like a vending machine You know And they just automatically

Become your wife You know And there's nothing there It's more fun The whole give and take Of hey You want to come out No No I guess Hey you got a mustache I should have looked Sooner I see your beady eyes No thank you I mean There's a give and take Until you find that one I mean it's a bad example But that's really how it is In our relationship with God He's not going to force us He's not just Like you say He's not going to push a button And say okay You're a believer And that means He's going to choose some To not be believers Well who wants to Who wants to spend an attorney With that guy Who wants to go to like heaven For all time And have a guy Who didn't really love Jesus But skimmed his way in the door Yeah You know That sounds like a terrible eternity You want people that love Jesus Well that sounds like a God Who's not a king to me You know what I'm saying It sounds like a guy That gets run over And does what he You know Like I don't know You know A grander picture of God Who says He says I rule and reign This is my earth

You are my people And I love you so much That I've sacrificed To try to get you here And you still don't want it But I'm not It has to be paid for Because as much as people Don't understand God's love They don't understand His hatred for sin Like they cut both of them off Way shorter than they need to be Like they don't understand Really how much God loves them And they don't understand Really how much God hates sin And that sin has to be paid for And God paid for it But you have to You have to at least acknowledge that And put Jesus where he belongs As the guy that paid for it And if you don't do that Like you can't say Well but I believed in In something else You know Isn't that going to be enough Is it cool that I just had Belief in something Well I mean I could I could deity my right foot And that's not really Going to do me a whole lot of good Is it like You know I could sit at home Worship it Call it names Paint it And elevate it above All the other parts of my body And say you're now King of the body And then you know It would go back to the duties Of right foot Because that's all it's designed for It's really nothing It's just part of nothing So you know I guess going back To the basic premise Who are you to say That your way is the only way And we talked about

John 14 6 Which is Jesus says I am the way And the truth And the life No one comes to the Father Except through me That is an exclusive statement There is not There's not another option That is no one There's one road Through me That's it Right That's exclusive Now Christianity Following Christ Is the most Exclusive Because it gives you One option But it is the most Inclusive Because that option Is available To everybody And we're not the ones Who made that up It's not like a bunch Of mean Christians Running around And saying This is our club This is Jesus This is the one Who did the dying And the resurrecting That said By the way I'm it Yeah You know I trust him Before me For sure Right If he didn't say that I'm not in this position Yeah You know We're not having this conversation But that's what he said And that's And that's the direction

And I think You know You're going to run into A very very difficult existence If you are trying to pick and choose What about the Bible You're going to take And what you're not Because here's the deal If there are parts of the Bible That is not true I'm following a false God The God that I believe in Does not exist If there's anything in it That's a lie Because he doesn't lie Right But God is an honest God He only says things that are true So if there's something in there That's false Then that Bible is not true My God is not real That's the end of it The whole castle falls Yeah And so you know This picking and choosing stuff Either we're being And I'm going to apologize for this But either we're being dishonest Or we're being lazy Those are your two options For you to be picking and choosing stuff Out of that Bible Now you could read it And you say I just flat out don't believe it And that's a viable option And frankly There's at least something in that That's better than being dishonest or lazy Because if you read that And you say You know what I'm just not going to do that Or I don't think that is true Then you're kind of wasting The rest of the things That you say that you believe Because again That's a false God A God that lies A God that says something That is not true

Or gives poor counsel Is not a God That's not a God That created the earth It's not a God That saved everybody It's not a God Who set the world in motion And interacts with it How he pleases That God does not exist If he's lying If he tells lies It's a dishonest God If God is not real That is a book of human wisdom Of which there are millions And millions of titles And there's no reason To raise it above anything else That's a fact So looking at it that way I have trouble with It just seems like You're spinning your wheels And you're going to have A very very difficult life If you're trying to pick and choose Like either God is gone And this is him Or it's not And then my life Looks way different Well I suppose That's the basis of it So if you run into this conversation It really has to start with Do you believe the Bible To be accurate Like do you believe the Bible To be the inspired word of God And if you do You don't have a leg to stand on Like you really You haven't read it Like if you have any The thing is Like if you claim to be A Christ follower And you don't And just like you said And you don't believe That the Bible is 100% accurate What are you basing your faith on? What are you following exactly? Right I mean

Just some guy You know Maybe you got a good preacher You know Hopefully he's teaching Bible But like You certainly can't pick out The parts that you think Are great Because that's That's not a faith It's a moral guidebook Yeah It's a consumerism type of religion Which is prevalent You know In our society Is I take what I want Well exactly People follow what they agree with It's kind of a salad bar I love I love to Tocqueville You know So I'm going to follow What he says You know So all you're doing Is finding people That agree That you agree with That probably said it Just a little better than you That's people's version Of like Of a moral code Some of the things That Christ says Are difficult They're difficult for me to do Like I try to There's some things Where I'm like Oh man I just I don't like this It's causing me To be uncomfortable Because my inclination Is to sin He doesn't have an inclination He only does good And so like We're going to But heads at times And you know

And so I think people Should be able to recognize That like You need to separate You know What is following Christ And what the Bible lays out As what following Christ Looks like And if you're just seeking Someone that you agree with Oprah is popular Because Oprah says People see something Of themselves Or what they want to be In the things That she talks about It's a very safe Yeah I could do that Warm spiritual mercy I am accepted The things that I do Are validated In one way or another And so You can watch that And say Well I like that I like to be validated You're wonderful And she said it well The power is within you Exactly And so you know That's not Jesus He didn't give you An option to say I'll take a little Jesus I'll take a little Oprah I'll take a little de Docqueville You have the option It's Christ or it's not Right Either he's a liar A lunatic Or he's the risen Lord Those are your options Yeah So I made a family member Maybe I shared this A long time ago But very angry I mean years and years ago

We were in a cemetery And we were at a burial Of an extended family member I hope so Otherwise Well yeah We were just hanging out We were just hanging out Look at these rocks We had to have words on them No we were sitting there And I'm looking around And you know Sometimes you just have Those moments You know And I just had that moment I was thinking of Jesus And him You know Talking about the wide road And the narrow road And I just thought It was just kind of Like man How many of these people Made it You know And I just thought Probably not very many And I probably shouldn't Have said that out loud Because a lot of The names on the tombstones Were his personal relatives You know Not mine Rough And I was just saying Man Think about this Somehow So many people Some of these people Didn't make it I mean most of them And I wasn't I wasn't It was just An out A statement You know And I found out later Man he just got ticked Tick tick tick tick And it was

He was a college student Or maybe just a recent grad Who'd just been fed All this junk You know We're all on This different roads Going to heaven Blah blah blah And it was a few years later He realized Actually that was right You know And he became a Christ follower But at the time Man it sure caused A big spillage And rift in the family You know I think you see that You see that too As people be like You know Who are you to judge Like if you're the guy If you're the guy Talking to people about Christ And you say I don't know if you're going to make it You know Or I don't see things going real well You know You're probably going to burn They're like So who are you to judge me And I thought about that I thought about that And I'm like You know I'm not the guy But I am the guy That can tell you Pretty much how the judgment Goes down Right Like It's as if I walk in here And Ben has a gun at Dan And says I'm going to kill Dan And I say You're going to go to prison He says Who are you to judge me I say

I'm not But someone's going to do it That's just what's going to happen I'm going to tell you That's how it usually goes down When you kill somebody I'm not sending you there It's the same thing with God Right Like And Jesus says that He goes Before they hated you They hated me And so The stuff coming out of your mouth Is stuff that They've already persecuted me for So don't You know Call it to yourself as righteousness It's not a big deal And so when you have to look at somebody And I don't know if you want to start You know On their road to Christ With I think you're going to go to hell But I mean You meet them where they're at Like if they're A pain in the teeth And they're not taking it real well I mean You've got to give them Pay attention But you know You're just the guy Telling them how it is And if you love them You'll tell them Yeah Because if you don't love them Then you'll shadow them And say Look you can do whatever you want It'll be fine That's a great point One of the other things That came up in that part of the discussion Was You know I'm friends with so many non-Christians They're actually some of the nicest Least judgmental people I know There is no one that can judge

A person's heart and destiny But God And we have no right to tell people They're going to hell Because they don't believe What we believe Now Penn Jillette is an atheist He's a pretty staunch atheist He's from Penn and Teller The magician's guy So there was a video He posted online A couple years ago And he'd run into a guy Who was He kept calling it proselytizing And I had to look it up I was like What is that Proselytizing Sharing Jesus Make you one of us Yeah But one of the things That he said Was very interesting And he goes I don't mind when people When people do that I don't believe it at all I think you're God's fake But he goes I don't mind when people do that If they're being honest about it Because The question really is How much do you have to hate somebody To not share Jesus with them If you believe that That God is real Jesus died for your sins And if this guy doesn't Doesn't believe that That he will go to hell How much do you have to hate that person To not share that with them At whatever risk it is to you Well I'm uncomfortable That's You hate that guy If you're not willing to take that step And say something to him about it And it was interesting Coming from a guy Who like

Probably gets irritated By Jesus guys Trying to turn him around Yeah Because he's a very public atheist But it was an interesting perspective Is to say Look if you If you really believe this is true Your life should look different You should be going after people Because like You really got to hate someone To not share that with them If you think that that's true Yeah And so it's interesting You know Part of this conversation was You know We have no right to tell people They're going to hell Because they don't believe What we believe But I would have to hate you To not do that Yeah I would have to really hate you And not care anything about you Or your destiny To share Now you may think I'm foolish And frankly that's cool That's totally your right to do that But like If you put yourself in my position Where I believe a certain thing And that if you don't Know these things And follow them And believe them That ultimately It will end very very badly for you I've got to really hate you To not share that You're seeing a guy Building a campfire Out on the interstate And you're thinking Well that's really great He believes that But you know He's going to get run over by semis Yeah You know And you're just like

Well that's just Man I just That's just really great He believes differently He'll find out That's totally cool Yeah I don't want to judge him It's like How could you possibly Just watch him get run over If you know That's what's going to happen You have to really not care Yeah It's just like Well tough luck Buddy You know And it's good for a believer To hear that Because we do psych ourselves Out so much You know Like I don't want to be Too forceful Or blah blah blah And it's like I mean Yeah I saw that video And that was very Convicting for me To listen to that And just go Man it's right I mean I believe this With all my heart And there's people I know That I just kind of Keep my eye Yeah You know I'm a preacher I'm waiting for the right time Yeah You know There'll be a right time Like when somebody dies And then I can talk to them About it It's like you're going You're going to burn forever in hell That's pretty bad You know I was actually talking to a guy this week That said

I feel like the church is backed away from preaching about hell And it's an excellent motivator To get people to love Jesus I said And what I said in response was Is I said You know I guess I don't even think about it Like Like because he said He goes He goes You know what I'm scared of hell Like he's known Christ a long time He goes Hell is an excellent motivator For me to keep in line And I said You know Like I appreciate that That point of view But I really think You know If you If you believe what you believe And Christ said it's finished It's finished So you're wasting a lot of time Being worried about hell Like I'm not worried about hell I'm just not Like I know Fun sermon series How much can you say about hell? Hell in general? Yeah Could you do four weeks on hell? Yeah What could you do about hell? Yeah I bet you could There's a lot of questions about How did I get there? What's it like? Why does it exist? Who set it up? People are under the mis The misguidance They think Satan made it to live in You know And I told this to someone Someone who I know Who's like Does not Does not follow Christ

But he was going through Through like a religion class Or philosophy class And he was talking about A god and stuff And I said And somehow Hell came up And I said You realize Jesus is the king of hell Right? Like he's the king over everything Like he does not just There's not like a dominion Of which he does not Right Rule over He That's It wasn't created I mean He knows it's there He will rule over it That's how Satan is cast out Yeah He made it And then put Satan in it It's not like he kicked Satan out of heaven And then heaven And then Satan went around Got some sticks together And built himself a shantytown Like he made hell And then he threw Satan in there And says This is where you're going to be Yeah It's not The Bible doesn't say Lord of all Except for that one spot Right So why is it there? That's it You could do that You could do a week on that Yeah Who's there Who's there Or who made it You could kind of combine that I just I brought a list Your grandpa Oh no What is it like?

I mean That's a good Solid Yeah Question And how do I avoid it? You can't You can't do a series on hell Without like Oh by the way Maybe we should put that Every week Of the four week series I feel like if we were to The fourth week It might be the ender Yeah Hold on everybody I'm going to help you out In five weeks Do you want to stay out Of this place? I'll see you next week Careful with the dogs What would be our What would be our Like our theme song For What secular song out there That could be just like Our big song Who got in trouble for that? What You could have the devil singing You're the one that I want Do do I don't want to say You're on the highway to hell Somebody Perry Noble Perry Noble got in trouble for that Use that for an introduction Yeah Well I mean got chastised By other guys Oh You know Here's one of I was reading a couple I wasn't in the blogs But I was reading Christian internet rags So I was I was reading some stuff And It kills me

That as soon as you find Like a Like a A preacher Or a prominent Christian writer If you take anybody's name And put controversy after it You'll find 15 articles In the Christian blog In the Christian rags Where they've said something That could go either way You know like So and so said I was reading a book I read a book this week By I forgot the guy's name again It was Shane something Anyway He got in real big trouble Because he said I gave up on I gave up on Modern Christianity A long time ago To follow Jesus And I like it Oh they just I mean they just Ripped into him You know people were Mad at him for months I mean you know Called him out Said well how dare you Blah blah blah And he said Look you know Here's the deal You know I know what I know what Jesus Wants out of me And I know I can't do it here Look at you people Look what you're saying About me Yeah Iris McKees I mean And actually he says that too He goes If I don't get kicked out If I don't get kicked out

I assume I didn't I didn't say the thing right You know I didn't speak the truth Because really The people The religious people Should be really upset Because I've just Called them out And the sinful people Are looking for a change You know And so It just It just seems Never end out there Right Like anytime you find Anybody That'll stand up for Christ You'll find 20 other Christ followers Who are willing to bury him And I just don't I don't understand it Yeah Well again Even in pastors Or even in people That are leadership In the church They're looking for someone That agrees with them Right They're not submitting To biblical authority Or spiritual authority They're saying Who agrees with me But is a little more eloquent That is a general purvey Of people that are trying To find someone to follow Someone that looks like them Maybe is a little more handsome And maybe says things Just a little bit better The slightly better version of them Is who they want to follow And so like If you don't say something That they agree with They're going to fly off the handle Because I certainly wouldn't say that Right

Which is You know That's weird Because that almost ties in A little bit We're coming up on Mother's Day And the sermon coming up on Sunday We're going to talk about A lot of times This part in Ephesians 5 Says you know Husbands Love your wives Life like Christ loved the church And frankly That's a standard of which I don't think most guys Have a very good concept of It's like what does this actually Look like to me To love my wife The way Christ loved the church So the question That we're going to try to answer is What if Christ loved the church Or loved you The same way that you sometimes Love your wife Oh bummer And you know There's a lot of good Followed by that But again It's the thought of You know What if someone Acted a bit differently Than the way I acted You know We don't see We don't see ourselves Well until we see Someone else do ourselves poorly And don't act in the way In which we would agree with And now we can See the friction But it's interesting Like just by Looking at something Just slightly different You know You start to realize Where the cracks are That maybe you didn't see before

So Should be Interesting I was talking to someone today Who said that their husband Called and wanted to Get some groceries for them Or something And he said Well I know what the sermon Is coming up next week And I'm going to make sure I kind of prepare So I don't feel so bad I thought that was awesome That's a good thought It's going to be kind of A rough one for the fellas It might be a bit Of a humbling experience When you put Jesus As the benchmark And that's where you're Supposed to aim It's never going to turn out Well for you So how do you measure up I'm very sorry about that How are you doing Hey you're listening Live from the Path We are broadcasting live On livefromthepath.org You can catch us During the week By going to that website Livefromthepath.org Click on the left hand side Get a hold of the podcast Go to the YouTube channel YouTube.com Backslash Live from the Path This actually I'll post a video of this We started broadcasting Through YouTube Which we've been Permitted to do And we can They'll start saving Some of our videos Actually on YouTube So you can go watch it later Without having to go To our Blip TV

That's cool Yeah Why would they do Such a nice thing for us Because we are a non-profit I think it's because They like us We don't make big money We don't make any money No Is there an difference Between a non-profit And a no-profit No a non-profit Still brings in money They just Spend it in a way Which they don't Actually make anything We are a no-profit In which we do not Bring in anything We are a no-income We're the opposite Like it costs us money Exactly We soak up resources We have gain Nothing We probably go for 60 bucks in soda a month Actually I drink The youth group soda Whoops Oh hey man They got soda in here Oh yeah Oh yeah Chili Carson always Stocks the soda I drink some too though I'm kind of a bit Parchment Some of it's just Church Church In general You know There was a Thanks son Oh Okay There was a You know what Hold on Let's finish this conversation

Because I think It was interesting So you know One of the last things That we were talking about Is no one can judge A person's heart And destiny But God We have no right To tell people They're going to hell Because they don't believe What we believe I think it's important To understand If you're coming From that perspective Is that you are Doing someone a disservice Like by allowing them To believe something That is not true That you would say Is not true Right That's not showing Compassion That's showing A lack of compassion I don't care enough About you To straighten you out And that sounds bad But I don't care enough About you to tell you The truth To make sure that you Have at least given The opportunity To understand What is true And what is not If a guy is Going to walk out In the middle of the street And he says There's no traffic And there is traffic I like your fire guy example Thanks And you know If he's walking And he says Nope No traffic

No traffic And you're like Dude there's To not tell him There's traffic And he's like He's going to die in there That's not compassion That's not love Right You're not being Accepting You're not being You know Treating everyone On equal footing You're allowing that person To harm themselves Okay Now that guy might get upset At you For telling you something That he believes Is not true Ultimately he will find If it is true It will be a shock to him It will not be a shock to you But I mean It's not compassionate And we've got to get away From that thought That like Just because something true It is not It is ultimately Non-compassion Understanding what is truth Ultimately what is real And what is not real And helping people To get there That's compassion Because allowing someone To believe a lie Is never compassion Right That's You're never helping them out By just saying I don't want to cause a ripple I just want them to be able To live the life That they want to live If that life is destructive That's a mistake

You know And you're not helping them Any by doing that But you know I get the perspective Because I mean It feels bad Like there's nothing Nothing comfortable About saying Dude I believe this I think you're not right here Yeah That's not a comfortable position Yeah You're going to To a place Of eternal torment I mean That's kind of An awkward conversation Yeah When they're like No I'm not You know This could be a low example Right But it's the same It's the same type of conversation With the same consequence As if someone's trying to marry A woman that they shouldn't Right Like a woman is ultimately Going to destroy you This is a bad matchup This is a bad idea And you're the guy Who has to go up And say Someone has to talk to Ted And they sure don't They don't see it Yeah Oh yeah No they don't They're infatuated with But no No no She's beautiful She loves me Great Why can't you just accept her Why are you going to be so judgmental Exactly I sat down with a family today

Having that very same conversation With their son And I was kind of like Mediator guy And the son's like You guys are just mean And her parents don't like you either Well fair enough They're like Well here's You know Here's the logical reasons And I'm thinking Yeah Yeah Pretty good The parents were dead on Yeah I mean of course I don't know the whole thing But sometimes you just don't see Because you're too close And especially when You're talking about your life You know Because then you turn around And say Oh by the way We're not just offering fire insurance Jesus says Follow me You know He's not just saying Hey I'll keep you out of hell I want you to follow me That's a whole different ball game Right And maybe that's why Churches have maybe Gone away from some of the hell talk Is we're not trying to just Scare them into The fire insurance We want to disciple people We want them to become By choice A follower of Jesus Christ And that's a big jump From just not From just I don't want to go to hell To I want to change my entire life And live for Jesus Yeah but I don't even know If I'd start listening to you

About the follow me crap Unless I knew I wasn't going to hell Following me I guess this isn't working Who do I follow? Yeah Yeah I mean It's got to have both In there I think Yeah But I think that's why Maybe the main message Churches has changed It isn't necessarily That they're scared To talk about hell Or something That they just Like I don't talk A ton about it I do some But Mostly it's for that Very reason I'm not I don't want you To make an emotional Decision based on Oh you know I'm going to run In the other direction I want you To pick up that Baton of faith And say I'm going to Live the rest of my life Following Jesus And that's so much Different More different Than just a momentary Decision Starts with a decision But what are you Deciding to do what You know What good are you If you made that decision I want to follow I want to be a believer I want to not go to hell And then five years later You're still just at that Same spot You haven't changed

At all The repentance Is part of the whole thing Of the package Right You shouldn't be running From something You should be running To something Oh I've got to look this up I saw someone post About this It reminds me It makes me think What if someone's Looking in on a Christian life And they say Well aren't you In the same position Aren't you just Aren't you just as close Couldn't you be just As blind What are your thoughts I don't know I was reading Dear Abbey's While you guys Were talking about Whatever you were Talking about Here's I guess What I would What I think You know Most Most people Wait a minute You were just using me As a segue To get to your own Grandstanding I had something I had an answer But I thought I'll share it with a group I'll see if you guys I feel used I opened it up to you I'm not your doormat If you would have Provided an answer I wouldn't have Had to do that No you would have Just said

What you were Going to say anyway You said I don't know I was doing something else Well I was But the grand scheme Of it was You were going to Get me to blah blah For two minutes So you could Pop out your idea That's the basic Concept of the show Was it not No you were You should reply To what I've said Not just say What you were going to Say anyway Listen to this I've read this On Facebook today Cheap grace Is the preaching Of forgiveness Without requiring Repentance That's from Dietrich Bonhoeffer Dietrich Bonhoeffer Led just a beast Of a life A beast of a life That guy was in If I'm thinking Of the right guy He was in like Nazi internment camps I mean evangelizing dudes In the middle of this deal He lived a very Very rough life But lived it solid And fierce for Christ He said They just There's not a biography About him That came out Just within the last Six months And it looks Very very interesting

He's a fierce dude Okay so the answer To what I thought of Is like someone If I'm saying You're too close to it You're missing it Couldn't you be wrong You're not seeing it correctly Someone could ask me That same question As a guy that follows Christ And say look Maybe you're just Caught up in it So much of your life Is associated With following Christ You would give up Too much to yourself To admit that it's not true Aren't you too close to it Maybe you're just missing it And I think my My first reaction would be If you've read the Bible Like there are way Easier things to submit to There are way If you're going to live A lifestyle that is of ease It is not following Christ Right He says that you know They will persecute you Because they persecuted me It is It is They recently came out That Christian Or Christians Are the most persecuted Religion in the world And we don't see that In the United States But you see it We're starting to Well We're marginalized Persecution is probably A bit far Compared to what other People are going to But we're certainly Being marginalized Some of our own doing

But like The thought is I can understand Falling for a really Hot lady And I don't recognize That she's going To destroy me But like There's nothing That appealing About Christianity From a simple Like if there is no God I'm just a guy Living out of carnal ways That I would ever Submit to this Unless I really thought Like there's no reason to Yeah Look at all the Restrictions on me That sounds like A really fun idea I can't act like A complete brute You know It would be nice To people that I don't like You know I got to suffer persecution You know If it comes along With humility And grace Grace from God And praising him For his glory I mean Who volunteers for that Get involved with the ministry It takes up my time And money Yeah Yeah Right A tithe Giving a big chunk Of my money To God And untrustworthy people That are trying to run On his behalf Is this Yeah

Yeah I'm out That's what I'm saying You've convinced me The Hindus don't have To do nothing They just They sit and be Kill me I'll come back And try it again That didn't work I'm ready I'm a better camel anyway Speaking of Speaking of given Check this out So there was a There was a recent study That was released At the University of California Berkeley And it suggests that Compassion motivates The non-religious More so than people of faith When it comes to Helping others in need And that religious people May instead be compelled To action Simply by doctrinal beliefs Three experiments That established I submit that's not true Hold on Check out the experiment The three experiments That established the results Revealed that when it came To generosity and giving The more compassion Non-believers felt The more likely they were To lend a hand to the needy The University reported On the other hand Highly religious people Did not feel the same connection Between how compassionate They felt about a certain situation And how much they were Influenced to help out Overall we find that For less religious people The strength of their

Emotional connection To another person Is critical To whether they will Help that person or not The more religious On the other hand May ground their generosity Less than emotion And more than other factors Such as doctrine A communal identity Or reputational concerns The results did not Seek to explain Why compassion Was not such a big factor For religious people But surmised that Believers were more guided By other principles Such as fulfilling Their moral duty As guided by doctrine We hypothesized that Religion would change How compassion impacts Generous behavior Now this was A result of a poll Or something This sounds like It came out of California This sounds like You have four questions Why do you feed the poor Because Jesus said to Because I think They were hungry Well so here we go So the Christian says Well because Jesus says Yeah so some of the Sample questions Based on the responses Of 1300 American adults Included how people Felt towards statements Such as When I see someone Being taken advantage of I feel kind of Protective toward them Researchers found That those who were More inclined to agree

With such statements And those more likely To lend out their Personal belongings To people in need Were more likely To identify themselves As non-religious Overall this research Suggests that although Less religious people Tend to be less trusted In the US When feeling compassionate They may actually be More inclined to help Their fellow citizens Than more religious people I think I know How this came to be Well I have two I have two hypotheses Okay The first one is a Positive one In which We are not so much Motivated by people's Circumstance Because we don't We don't need that Compassion to get you in Right People don't have to Tell a sad tale They just have to be Needy I'm not required I'm not required You don't have to Justify your need We will help you Are helping regardless We are reaching out To people Could be Secondly Let me ask you this Mike If someone said Hey Mike Are you religious What would you say to that No So the type of people That are identifying

Themselves as religious May very well be And maybe people of faith Way over generalizing here But like it's very possible That the type of guy That says you know what I'm religious Is also kind of Sometimes there's your High horse guy Who says you know what God helps those Who help themselves Pull yourself together Follow Jesus And you wouldn't be In this position Things of that nature Right Completely ignoring First of all That phrase is not in there God does not help Those that help themselves I've said that phrase Follow Jesus You wouldn't be In this position I don't know that You could choose me To be religious Could be true Right But like Jesus is pretty clear On helping the needy Helping the less fortunate And so There probably is a pretty Sizable contingent Of very judgmental People following Christ Who expect people That don't follow Christ To act like they're Following Christ Which is not going to happen That is not a It's not a responsible way To look at the world And say look I'm ashamed of you Because you don't act Like a Christ follower When they don't follow Christ

What else did you expect To happen You know Here's the thing Like you don't You put the cart Before the horse When you say Look I help people Because Jesus told me to Right You help people Because the Holy Spirit Dwells with you And the Holy Spirit Helps people You know And the Holy Spirit Loves those people You know Like And maybe this is a stretch Right Like I might need Some biblical backup here But like I feel like I feel like The byproduct Of following Christ Is that the Holy Spirit Dwells in you And you And you You become Like you're You're the image And likeness of God Right And the more that you Let God take over The more that's what Takes over And so like I don't have inherent love For the poor Like I just don't My sinful self I just don't You know But the more that I That I That I let the Holy Spirit Do what he wants to do with me The more I love people For any number of reasons

That I would not have loved before You know So it just It seems to me That like That's a So when you say Like when I see someone You know I should help the poor Because that's what people Who love Jesus do I more think You know Put Jesus as As Savior and Lord In your life And you will Like it's a byproduct It just It will happen The Holy Spirit Loves his people God loves his own people And so If you let the Holy Spirit Dwell within you And do what he wants to do You'll love people And so I don't think There's any 12 step program Or it has to be a fight Like I just think It's submitting to God And letting him You know Take some root in your life And it'll happen Yes Classic I went into some input You don't have any Biblical backup for me Dan I think you did well I didn't The more God Takes control of you I didn't quote any Bible verses Dan Well you know I was thinking of Matthew 25 Whoever does it For the least of these They do for me And the more you

Follow Christ The more you look at The least being the poor The hungry The people With issues The imprisoned The naked You know All that stuff You You start Kind of looking For them Or at least When you see them The more on the radar Is hey That's someone Jesus wants me To take care of What if Jesus Doesn't take my five bucks Can I be held Accountable for that I pulled up to a stoplight The other day And there was a guy Standing there And like He wasn't standing Even with the first car He was standing With like the Behind of my vehicle And so So you could reach Multiple cars at once If they're going to Try to give you money So I was kind of Sitting at the light And he's standing there And he says I'm traveling You know Any money will help So I'm digging around And I found like five bucks In my pocket And I go Hey dude And then he didn't turn around And I said Hey dude And he did not turn around

And the light turned green And so I learned Oh you thought Well my giving's over The green light is here I need to cause Someone else behind me Irritation to help this man Should I have waited Yes you should have waited Why would Jesus Ignore my five bucks Are you supposed to Give him five bucks Or ain't you I think you should Never give money To a guy on a curb Why You're not helping You're just Who knows I mean he's just not helping He's traveling Oh yeah He needs five bucks He's in a solid position He's in a good place in life You have no business He could very well be One of seven people Who have been hired To work that corner I mean Who I would also submit Is not living A productive life For Jesus He also needs you To speak with him And help him If you're going to Speak with him That's one thing If you're just going to Hit him five bucks And drive off You're just You're not helping anybody He'll see God in your eyes He'll see it in your face Unless he looks like you Which you're a commotion Say I'm being gracious to you Because my God is gracious God bless buddy

How does that work Is that five for you I think that's solid Dan says That's a cliche That's just What if it's a cliche Is it not true Excuse me Go ahead Dan Justify your behavior I am You don't just Throw money at people I mean You've got to connect With them Here read this book Right here How to talk about Jesus Without freaking out Here's a book That's not about the This is not the Bible Read this It has Bible verses In it I'll bet It was in a case With other Bibles and books It says Jesus It may have rubbed up It says right there Jesus How to talk to Jesus Here's a book On how to be confused On exactly what to do With yourself Boys and girls We're going to read This book today This will be the next What do you call that Story from the path I'm sorry Dan So It looks good Are you saying That there's no viable Reason to give money To people I'm saying sometimes You hurt them More than anything If I have a drug addiction And I'm out there

In a corner And I'm just getting cash To get my next fix You're not helping me As opposed to What if he's not a drug addict I don't know How do you know If you're just at a car At a stoplight Going here's five bucks You don't know You have no nothing You know what actually I kind of agree with Dan And to a broader point I think I agree that That You know people From a Following Jesus perspective When they talk about Feeding the poor Or helping the less fortunate They don't have a face For any of that Like they blindly give To charities They blindly give To organizations And they just say I help the poor You know And really You don't have You're not having love For individual people You're having love For a group of folks That you have had No interaction No contact with And you cannot Share You can't share The love To them Because you don't Know them So right So should your Mindset be different Like not I'm going to help The poor Like I'm going to

Help the people Less fortunate Around me That I can look In the eye Yeah That's what we've Had this discussion Of since going To the conference That wouldn't it be Great to rent An apartment Down the street In the low income Housing Rent an apartment And just make it A food pantry There Where we as a church Will supply food And diapers And parenting books From a godly perspective And things like that Where we're actually Connecting with the neighbors And helping build Community there As opposed to Just throwing some Money at them I mean it starts out With hey Let's feed you But it's also They'll know very clearly This is Jesus This is Jesus Going on here And you build Some community there As opposed to Just throwing some Money at here Here's a bag of rice And driving off You know I think that's Actually pretty huge Because I think I think the Like the I don't know The modern set up

Gives everybody An easy out Absolutely Like we're taking up Collections for And I feel better It didn't help them It made me feel better Right I fed the poor Okay you know I help the poor in general Like who Get yourself a number three With a diet coke You know who do you help You paid their secretary That's what you did You paid their secretary And filled their water cooler Those are the things That you did But like when you invite Sylvia into your house And find out that Her mom's a drug addict Her dad's never been around And she's got a six year old Daughter You know And they're having A hard time Now you can You can talk to them You can talk to them About Jesus And you can And you know what Even if they don't want To hear your Jesus talk You can feed them You can love them Like Christ loves them Because Christ loved them Through all that stuff And that's your job Not just to throw money At the faceless poor And I don't know I think that's I think that's a A really big step I think it's just Changing your mind frame You know Stop looking at the poor

Like they're a group of people And realize they're made up There's a human being there Of individual people With a story Right And it's not It's not You know It's society That's called them poor They're still just people You know Who don't have the same resources You have So change the game a little You know Give them a tunic For heaven's sakes But if they don't need one Then they're going to have To take it off And get somebody else So don't give the guy Five bucks Listen here's the deal Jesus said two tunics Is the maximum You only need one If you have two You got to get rid of one You can't ever have Two tunics You don't need them You just need the one What if I want to wear A different tunic The next day I'm sorry You're fancy pants You don't belong In the love of Christ Get rid of one of your tunics Alright Alright It could be a good looking tunic Okay you don't have to have A ragamuff a tunic Or one you bought At the half price store Can be a tunic of many colors Buy a good one From my dad What's the modern day equivalent Like a cape I'd assume it'd be

Something everybody has A bomber jacket Like a t-shirt I can wear one t-shirt Members only jacket It's a coat It's a coat One set of undies I don't think How specific is this deal I think it's going to be Something from the Gap What's the undergarment The tunic is the outer garment Yeah I believe so It's a coat It's a coat Yeah Keeps the dust and rain We're not in the Mideast I mean you have to We dress in layers here Do we have to wear The little head thing The men don't do that They wear the hat Not all of them Nah you're thinking Of a sultan Or like the guy From Mike Tyson Punch Out Yeah With the turban What's he called The great tiger man Yeah yeah yeah Yeah alright You're listening live From the path Hey man did you know That over half of South Jersey's Catholics Believe Jesus' sin You believe that stuff It's on par with the guy That says like We're all on different Paths to heaven I follow Jesus But you can follow Someone else And we'll get to the same spot 60% of practicing Catholics In southern New Jersey

Believe Jesus sinned During his time on earth Huh I don't understand At what point Don't you just give up And say look How about read the bible Yeah Yeah I mean what do you want To get one of them Monkey ropes And then drag these people Along with you Like it's having one of them Kids on them extendo cords You know when you Haul them around to the zoo With a backpack Attached to an extendo cord After a while it's like You know what You don't want to be here Because if you did You'd read the stupid thing Like ah that frustrates me To no end You know like people are like I'm struggling I'm having a hard time With Christ I'm like well You know how's your prayer life Oh I don't pray very often I lit a candle I said well how's your bible Reading going I you know I just can't seem to find time To read my bible I go well Lord knows how you've Fallen off track here You don't know anything About the god That you claim to be following He's the center of my life Mike He's the heart and soul I live my life for Jesus I'm a religious man I don't know crap about him I don't talk to him And I don't want to learn Nothing about him And frankly I'm irritated

Of the Sunday mornings Because I think they're boring You're just a Jesus freak You know I just It blows my mind Like who can go I trust my life to Jesus I don't know anything About this man Tell me about him Mike Tell me more about Jesus And I think you know If this was your marriage Or this was your friendship The other person Had split on you by now If it was not Christ You know what I'm saying Like who says Hey here's Mike And his wife Jera I run everything Through Pastor Dan He's our mediary I don't really want to know Jera But I'm going to ask Dan But I'm going to ask Dan questions About Jera Is Jera hungry Dan Jera you hungry Yeah I think Jera's kind of hungry Okay cool I'll get something to eat You know I feel real close To my wife You know I've invited a third party in To mediate between the pair of us Like it's the same thing With you in relationship with Christ If you say I'm having a hard time I'm struggling I don't feel close to Jesus Maybe you should spend Some time with him And stop waiting for someone else To bring the gospel to you Like Jesus can't bring it To you directly Like that Bible Is his living word It will speak to you When you read it And the things that jump out

At Ben and Dan When they read the Bible I can read through the book of Hebrews And get nothing Or I can get something Depending on what the Holy Spirit Has to do with me Today You know And so It is his living word It's called that for a reason And you cannot say God doesn't speak to me God doesn't talk to me I don't know what God wants For my life When you have Spent no time with him And you're not willing To put in any effort To build a relationship You just want to be Told about who he is And that makes for A really crappy relationship It's like online dating It's online Jesus An online God dating service Choose your God Here's a picture of all the gods Here's as much information We can gather about them It's no wonder people pick New age spiritualism Hey This one seems to not Want anything from me And if I spend more time With myself Then I could be pretty awesome Yeah This is the kind of relationship I want And feel good about being spiritual Yeah I don't People are I don't know Jesus He's so far away from me Oh yeah That's the reason Oh yeah Jesus is split on you That's totally the deal

See that big book over there Go ahead and open it Yeah Yeah You're listening to Live from the Path That same study showed That 4 out of 10 Of the Catholics Disagree with the idea That sex should be reserved Solely for marriage They're pretty open about it 40% Think what? 4 out of 10 Disagree with the idea That sex should be reserved Solely for marriage 40% of people You know what We're not limited by that Why But you know what Before we rip on the Catholics there That's a Catholic survey We're in a pretty conservative Bible believing church And I bet if you were to To poll the actual activity Of people 29 and under They'd probably be I wonder how Oh yeah I don't know This is just interesting Because it's framed Against the background Of a church organization But it's broadly true There's nothing more Aggravating to me Than to talk about That subject And know that Some people are just Looking at you like Yeah whatever I can't wait till I get To whatever's house You know it's the same thing You were just talking about When you're talking about People like Hey I don't understand

Why my marriage keeps failing I don't understand Why my relationships Don't go very well Well like You're not working on them You're not doing God honoring marriages You're not marrying The right people Right You're putting yourself In a bad situation And saying Oh I can't imagine How this happened to me It's a pretty small book Really the Bible Compared to a lot Of the books out there It's this little book If you just would read it It would save you Hours and weeks And months And years Of intense pain But I can't spend 15 minutes a day And read just a little bit of it Yeah Because it might bore me Well people People run on The golden nuggets You know Like the one part Of Dan's sermon That was interesting The rest of it was junk Right But they'll pick the one part That they're like That's my new life verse I'm going to run on this thing For another six months Until I have to pay attention To another sermon And then I'll pick a life verse Out of that one And I'll run on that thing For a while Yeah You know And it's just Actually I hate the concept

Of a life verse I just don't like it It's like here's the one thing I'm going to have That stands out Above everything else Actually somebody said I was infuriated When our first daughter Was born Someone gave us a poster With like Here's her name Here's her This was funny Here's her Like her star sign You know I can't remember Exactly what it was Here's her birthstone And here's her Life bible verse And I'm like Who decided that? Here's what Bale thinks of her Like the guy At the Christian bookstore I'm like Screw you dude You don't have any idea What the life verse For my daughter is And I wasn't mad At the person that bought it Because they didn't know any better I was mad at the guy That produced it I thought you You're a shill You're a shill For corporate Christianity And you should be ashamed Of yourself I think about the life verse And I don't know About everybody Where it comes from But I have always thought There's this Like most of us Have that one verse That we look at And think man That really drives me That really gets me going

You know Not that that's like The most important one In the bible Or ignore the other stuff Mine's always been Matthew 28 The whole great commission thing Dan has one I don't have it Matthew 28 That's everybody's It should be Because that is That is why we exist That is our purpose You're a life verse elitist I guess so You're telling me Your life verse Is better than our life Now here's the deal I'm not agreeing Like situationally You find something That the bible speaks To specific to your situation And you're like You're going through something For six months And you keep reminding yourself Lord is my strength Okay This is what I'm going to Ramp up on Okay I get that part But like Seriously My life verse is The book of John And the book of Matthew And the book of Luke Romans Ephesians Acts Revelation And then we can You know You know what I'm saying Like The full counsel of God Is my life guidance Not the one thing That I pick out Because you know what The life verse

Is something that I like Here's something that I enjoy That's not good I don't want to focus my life On the thing that I really like Mine's the prayer of J-Biz I read a nice pamphlet on it I love J-Biz The prayer of J-Biz Bedtime J-Biz How's that go Biding my I can't remember it I got a prayer of J-Biz From Ben Fuston Company I didn't give you Prayer of J-Biz Uh huh No I did not Uh huh I got it for a birthday gift For a prayer of J-Biz For little kids Oh I did not Came from your family Oh no I laughed And then I read it Bury it in the yard I preached on it once No Dan Yeah it was a big popular thing I thought okay we'll hit on it No It's not good It's a falsity It's prosperity More blessings on me Jesus I don't ask for much Just pretty much everything Yeah Come on Look I'm trying to decide Between you and Vishnu Uh you know Give me your direction Yeah Show me how great you are If you could Dear Father just glorify me Bring me things that bring me glory More land More friends I'm supposed to I'm supposed to be salt and light I'm only asking for wealth

It's the problem The issue with the prayer of J-Biz Is that it's very Um it's tilted towards The prosperity gospel Like that God is here to serve you To pour earthly blessings upon you Yeah Um and that's And although he can do that And in some certain sense does Um that is not his promise for everyone Um the Bible is clear that other people Will be um will be in circumstances That otherwise Who is J-Biz? Who is it anyway? He's just this obscure dude Yeah So I mean that that's really the issue And it's it's it's You see that kind of That line of thinking Um used in a lot of televangelism Making promises that God didn't make Or making promises to people that God didn't Or like Or certain situations that God said Here I'm going to bless this Or I'm going to give this Or whatever Um and it's to a specific people At a specific time Not everyone in general So like That's actually generally the problem I mean basically yeah The scripture is just saying Hey this is what he prayed Yeah J-Biz called upon the God of Israel Saying oh that you would bless me And enlarge my border That your hand might be with me That you would keep me from harm That it might not bring me pain And God granted what he asked And so some dude thought Hey that's kind of a cool book And he wrote a book And everybody was like That's a great prayer Yeah And we all went crazy with it Yeah And it's like

Well I mean it's a nice prayer I prayed that for my I prayed very selfishly for my children For years Yeah And uh Not necessarily for wealth But for spiritual guidance And protection and so forth Yeah It tends to cast the wrong thought It tends to cast Like if you're praying to God In ways that he can serve you As opposed to how you can serve him It's put you in a very difficult position To see God clearly And so that tends to be the issue With a book like that Is just cast God in the wrong light As if it's his job to provide Yeah I mean if that is our ultimate Definition of success As an enlarged border More land More property To be blessed You know in such a way We've missed the mark entirely Yeah You know And this And biblically I mean the reason for something like this Is to show You know Jesus talks about You know Whatever you You pray I will provide But like it's It's under the broad guidance of If you're praying If you're in close relationship with me You're praying for the things The types of things That I will provide Right You're You know We're in step And so You know God will sometimes do this Just so you know

You know Just to show off And look I've put it on you To pray for this Because I'm going to give it to you And I want you to know That I gave it to you And that I'm You know I'm coming in here And I'm taking care of you But like That is not The context there Is not for everybody To always be blessed Because like Not everyone can have large lands It's just not going to work out like that Yeah It's a history book It's just Oh this will happen Yeah Yeah That's So the You know The Bible has a history Of the prayer of Jabez This has been turned As if it is a promise To everybody That it is not And the problem is Is like That's how it was sold To people Is if you know Get on board with this thing And God will bless you It's the same thing As like Send me eight bucks And get an iron eagle And then the Lord will bless you Because you have this eagle In your house Like it's a lie It's not true If you buy a boat In the middle of the winter And cross the Valley Forge You're going to win a victory It's like

George Washington might have done Yeah I mean You know Was that a Was that a historical reference Yeah What's that I don't know Valley Forge The boat The Washington thing Valley Forge Across the Delaware The Delaware So the question was But how is So how is that different Than asking God To provide you Health, peace, food, job We ask God for things All the time Yeah And Jesus said to In the model prayer Yep You know No No he didn't He just said Daily needs He just Provide for my needs That's it Right Right And so do I need Provide for me what I need That's it This is saying I have a bunch of land Would you widen my borders please This would be great You know He's asking for financial success Which isn't bad to ask for No it's not bad to have Financial success If God gives it to you Yeah That's all And it's not bad to work for it I mean No it's not bad It's not at all But I think it's

It's not like you're spiritually Off if you don't have it Here's the thing The prayer of Jabez It's not like straight from the devil Or nothing You know It's not false gospel But I think it was the marketing Behind it that that was The problem Like it's biblical It's in there The guy asked for something Right But it was more of a retelling Of how it went down The guy asked for it And he got it Right The Bible is full of that stuff Where something happened The Bible recorded it And that doesn't make it Straight out of Jesus' mouth It's just of what happened Yeah You know It's not like Because David Had a guy killed And then stole his wife That that since it's in the Bible That's kind of the call For us to do the same Or that some of the prime figures In your Old Testament Had multiple wives That doesn't mean God Is condoning it But it is what happened Right And so it's recorded In the Bible that way Exactly You know And obviously God Answered this prayer He wanted He provided those things And you know He doesn't refrain From you know Pouring earthly blessings On folks like King Solomon

And King David But the marketing And only to the extent That it brings people in In a little bit of a deceit Right They say Come to God Because he will bless you With earthly blessings And so And you've If that's why you If that's why you come to God And that's your relationship Is like I ask You glorify me By showing By creating these things for me So that people will look highly upon me On earth You're missing You're like way missing it And that's That's actually the problem Is because something like that Will create barriers for people That they will not get beyond Right I find the prayer of Jabez Not to be a problem If you're a Christian If you follow Jesus actively I don't see it as an issue If you don't know Jesus And you're coming to know Jesus Through the prayer of Jabez That I have a problem with The magic genie Yeah I think that's the issue But like if you I mean if you know and love Jesus You get the deal Like you see You are using the full counsel of Christ There's no reason to not Pray the prayer of Jabez Lord If it's in your will Hit me with some stuff If it ain't Take stuff away from me Well help me Help me to do it responsibly Help me to use your

Tell me Tell me what you I tell you what You just tell me what you want Hey I drove by the motel The other day Here on Merle Hay That's for sale And I said Hey God Here's the deal If you give that to us We will have a homeless ministry down there Tell me We're doing it I still want to do that I'll be so cool I'll be right there There's already homeless guys there Exactly We don't even have to One whole wing would be like Okay this is the homeless people And he laughed I don't know what he did We'll see Well let's see if Jabez Every time I drive by I think God This is up to you If you want it I mean because We don't have any money We're not going to do it Look God Is Jabez around He sees no stuff That's probably why He's like Tell you what You get the apartment And pay for it To the question on the chat It seems like the Bible Does talk a little bit about God Providing land, food, descendants And wealth That's true And you know Obviously I'm just speculating On where the mind of God is at Who You know I'm not an expert on that But

Like I think there God is demonstrating His influence You know what I'm saying God is saying Like I will make promises And I'm keeping them I'm going to say I'm going to do When I say that I'm going to deliver you Into the promised land I'm going to deliver you Into the promised land I should be trusted Right Because then again He created a people And he's willing to work In their lives So that he can demonstrate Who he is And so that you When he fulfills a promise You know that it was fulfilled You know And God is working in that fashion And the thing is He can say I'll give you eternal life in heaven And that might be true But it's very difficult For the people that he created To grasp Because they're not living In that plane at the moment Right So if he says I'm going to give you this land You know And he follows through with that And he said Despite your grumbling Despite all this hassle That you've given me Despite your unbelief Ultimately My people who I made a promise to I've provided this land Just like I said I would You know I'm revealing myself to you So that you can see me And I think those are just Worldly ways to do that

That's how people will be able To recognize that God has moved Or made promises And kept them Because the promises That are outside of Worldly possessions Or worldly stuff like that They're not going to be able To grasp Until it's probably Too late Or too far gone For it to be a proof That God is interacting With the world Yeah You know We're just saying Our relationship with God Shouldn't be based upon How we're doing Financially And how we're doing With worldly things They can come and go The relationship is always strong On the spiritual side Whether I have plenty Or In the want Whether I'm hungry Or well fed You know As Paul said It's like whatever I'm still content Well you know And the only thing The other thing That kind of casts that thing You know Coming into Just about anything To be honest with you As a If you're a mature Christian You should You can get something Out of almost everything Like you can pick up You know Anything in the Christian bookstore And you're going to get Something out of it Even if it's a good

Exercise in what you don't believe Right exactly Like I've read stuff And I'm like That's just totally not true Like they're looking At that thing wrong It reinforced something for me It made me Is that what you're going to call it? It just came to me In the middle of her That's not good That is awesome I love it Can't we have a series on hell And call it What the hell? What the hell? And it'll answer it What is hell? Yeah I think that's That goes back to An earlier conversation But we're totally Going to have to There's a preacher On the south side That's going to love Our billboard It's going to be fantastic I think it's so cool Sometimes I think Things that are really bad Are cool though I'm the wrong guy To run it by I think it's great Okay chat I'll put the thing on it Here's the deal We're going to do a series On hell Why is it there? Who made it? Who's there? What's it like? How do I avoid it? And what if we entitled The series What the hell? Does that just sound Like a swear word? Because we don't want to Use it We don't want to be

Disrespectful It sounds like a swear Does that sound like A dirty word? Oh man We were quick to make Blanket statements But it was true Right? I mean I think that's Maybe so But like Blanket statements About what? Jabez? Yeah I'll come off it now It's not that big of a deal I just thought it was funny That it came from your house Because me and you Have made fun of Jabez before And I totally got A baby's prayer To Jabez book And I thought I can't believe that stuff Where did this come from? We got to vote yes Does that mean yes Go with the title? Or is yes Talking about The blanket statement? Somebody should Tony write hell yes Because that would be funny Hell's not for me But it should Okay it's falling off the wagon That's alright Okay yeah I'm for it I'm giving it a thumbs up Yeah It's in Maybe don't clear it With the leadership team Oh they're a bunch of Stodgy pencil pushers anyway They're going to pray On a freight month And not come to an agreement That's going to bring More people in And then we're going to

Have to buy more donuts You know what donuts cost? That's all I hear I can just see the sign Outside right now You could also see The protesters With their own signs Would it be wrong If the donut king Had the phrase Lord of all breakfast As his slogan? Why? What is his current one? Popper? I don't know We're okay With a breakfast popper I guess I was just thinking Is that too close? Because you're using King and lord of all And he's saying Donut king Lord of all breakfast I think you have to make A small l Small case l So as long as you do that That's fine? Because you know It's like the lord of whales I'm the lord of donuts Donut land I don't want to buy donuts From some kind of snooty guy Common Joe donuts I buy donuts from that man We should make donuts in here Alright Hey real quick You're listening to Live from the Path We're here every Monday night From 10 to midnight At livefromthepath.org That's going to go well On the signs That's what happens We don't have guests in here I don't even know I don't know why That just kind of came to me We're sitting here Talking about something

Completely different I'm going to tell you A story real quick So me and the youth We're out here on Saturday Me and my wife And a good portion Of the youth Oh no This is fantastic This is terrible We go out And I'm talking to this kid And me and Dan Are outside Looking at the yard You know And we're talking We have a bunch of Landscaping work We're going to do And the kid goes Hey can I mow the yard And I said You know if you really want to And he goes Let's be honest here Whoever mowed the yard Did a beep job Swore Now here's A pretty big one It was a category two swear It wasn't the number one But I mean It was up there And it rolled off the tongue It didn't sound awkward And so I thought Well that's weird Like Here's the thing I get sworn I get sworn in front of All the time Right But I'm not I'm not Dan Right I'm just This is the weird part to me Like I thought about this On the way home Like I get sworn in front of I mean all the time

Like it's just part of my day Right But that has got to be Dan has to be sworn in front of At least a little less I mean just a little less than me Well at least In a church function I mean they get out and about And people swear Yeah I mean you hear random swear words But like I have Fifteen conversations today Every day Where it's F-bomb Every other one You know Like it's just part of my day And so I don't notice it Quite as much You know But I did notice it Because I was looking at Dan While he was talking And he goes Beep Because they did a beep job And I looked at Dan I'm like Here's the thing We're at a church function You're standing in front of the preacher At the church office Pastor Dan We're here for a church youth group And he drops a swear And I said What the hell I said I don't think that was necessary I mean even if they did a bad job I mean Let's leave the mower guy out of it You know And he goes Let's be honest Like he had just totally boiled it down To what it was And I thought Maybe we haven't set up a proper I don't know Order of things here Where I mean if you're If you swear That's one thing right

But like I don't know I don't bring my potty mouth To any church function It just seems to walk off At the door for me And it was very It was weird And the thing was It's not like the yard was that bad It had been mowed Like three days earlier I'm like It wasn't that bad What is he looking at? Let's break this thing down here They did a swear of a job I was totally blown away I did not see that coming at all I thought like I thought one of these times With these youth I'm going to be the one That accidentally swears And I'm going to set up A terrible example right And I You know I have It hasn't happened yet Lord willing That it continues on Some kind of streak right But then the kid drops What do I even say to this? It was funny Anyway Real quick Before we get started Quick update on some of the bands That we've had on the show So Syndrome of Fire is in Memphis Nashville? And I'm going to try Hey I'm going to be there I'm going to try to make it I'm going to try to be there South Dakota The two letters that make up South Dakota are SD Great places And that also South Dakota Could very well mean Satan's dominion I'm just saying You don't want to go to South Dakota There's bad things there That's not true What you're saying It's just something to think about Alright Right J.Biz? Talk to my J.Biz Dear Live from the Past Expand my land I am a professional Ornithologist Bird expert With a substantial record Of accomplishments Books Scientific papers Blog Website Consultant Wait wait I thought orthodontist Was a tooth man Ornithologist Oh never mind Anyway Continue My hometown Has held a bird festival For more than a decade Sounds like a sweet deal And each year It features a main speaker At the dinner My expertise and experience Far Far outshine any of the speakers They have invited By a considerable margin Wait for it Stop interrupting me J.Biz

I am well known in town But I've not been asked to speak I talk to the festival board members And they say I haven't been deliberately excluded But they didn't give me any reason Why I have been ignored There's no history of bad feelings But I'm starting to develop some now It feels like a personal Unprofessional snub How do I respond Unappreciated In California It's very easy The son of God himself In his hometown Was like Eh That's Joseph's son He's a carpenter A prophet in his own town How does that go Is not honored Or I can't remember the words But he's too close He's just a neighbor guy Everybody knows him You gotta travel What 75 miles To be an expert My guess is If I had to He's snooty If I had to really call it He doesn't keep up on his landscaping And so if people were to get there That's to attract the birds They would see him Up on the stage And they would never take him seriously They would just think Why don't you mow your grass bird man That's it See people are thinking of him As a common As a neighbor As opposed to There's an expert on birds Or maybe he's He sounds like a pompous doofus Maybe he's not The bird expert he says he is He didn't sign it Pompous doofus He signed it unappreciated

Like he's a man Yeah that's a guy That thinks highly of himself Because other people Should be appreciating me But they're not Right The only reason I think People should appreciate me Is because I think Very highly of myself He's a pompous doofus He didn't even happen to Jesus You just don't expect it Only in his hometown Among his relatives In his own house Is a prophet without honor There you go Actually Or a bird expert Secular says You're not alone with this dilemma To paraphrase a verse from the Bible Which also sounds like Rodney Dangerfield A prophet is without honor In his own hometown Because the festival board members Have been made aware That you are qualified And would like to be a speaker It's time to step back Make other plans For when the festival is held What? It's possible in your absence May make their hearts grow fonder However if it doesn't At least you won't be Sitting at home And brooding No He's full of himself He's difficult to deal with Okay This is also a power play Right I'm not going to go there I'm not going to go to your festival I'm not going to go somewhere else Like that's going to help Right Like if you got snubbed At something And instead you went to like

The Olive Garden For the night You tell me it's not You're not going to be eating Your breadstick Thinking I think the proper response Is you go to this thing And you ask questions That the presenters Can't understand There you go Embarrassing your expertise And everybody will think Well we should have had That's not what they'll think They'll think They just don't know That guy to be quiet There's nothing worse Than an upstager That's what I'm See this guy's Across the board Pompous Yeah He can't be dealt with Yeah Hey I belong here He has a life perspective problem Right Like no one appreciates me No one's understanding me I'm great How come no one else Is picking up on it Yeah Like if you're going to Put on a bird festival A legitimate bird festival And you want people To check it out You're going to get Like real experts there Like you're not going to Choose somebody less As a personal vendetta Who's the neon sign Of the bird world You know what I'm saying Like who's like Dude if we can only get Audubon in here People will come from Miles around You don't know

Who cares about birds The problem is It's a bunch of nerds anyway I mean sometimes It's just more special I don't think it's a big deal I mean it is to him But he just needs to understand That is just the nature of people No But when we lived in Atlantic There was one of the guys Who was like in D.C. On a big huge Monster high position And so he was like The big The big guy And he never got asked To do anything Because everybody's like Well we don't want to ask him He's asked to do everything Which meant He really never was Asked to do anything Because everybody thought He was over asked You know because Well he's the big wig That's why no ladies Ever asked me out in high school They just assumed I was dating a hot woman Yeah That's what happened Look at the guy People just get caught up In that stuff They used to assume Yeah It's wild It's wild how people treat me They're live from the path That bird guy And getting in here He ain't coming on this show They used to assume I was a great basketball player Oh he's got some height He's going to be good And I'm like oh you'll find out Just how bad I am It was bad Okay go ahead Sorry Mike

I needed some advice too Thanks for that trip down Memory late I'm really hurting here Alright No one asked me To do the basketball clinics He's got some height Oh yeah He's got ball handling skills Of a giant Yeah exactly When my husband and I Have a private argument He shares our problems With our 11 year old daughter When I'm not around Later she will tell me She sides with him About our argument Of course I feel like my husband Should not involve our daughter In our disagreements It makes me feel betrayed How should I deal with this issue Tell him to knock it off Yeah have an adult conversation I'm pretty sure I'm assuming she's trying that Maybe she should tell the daughter You should tell her Don't you think it's kind of Immature for your dad To talk to you Would you want your husband Acting that way What kind of a loser Does that to his daughter Here's the deal Don't respect your father That's basically what you're saying But you're trying to Undermind each other Yeah he's trying to Undermine the relationship With the daughter And he's trying to Play favorites there You need to like me better That's pathetic It is pathetic He's got his life priorities Screwed way up Like he's got like I mean

Not even Even taking out A biblical perspective Whatever like Your prior to Oh it has to be Your spouse first Then your kids Otherwise your kids notice You know what I'm saying Your kids know If you're not loving your spouse And if you're not Taking care of your spouse And so Like their problems Your problems Are never their problems They should assume That you are the cleavers As far as they can tell They think everything Has been decided upon Talked about And I even present that To my kids Like your mother and I Have talked about this And we're not going to Put up with this behavior You know what I'm saying I never say I'm not gonna Or she's not gonna Or you know whatever I say Here's what your mom And I think And then after I've said it I said Oh yeah That's what we think Right You know Like were you on board With what I said Well kind of Well I'm glad We kind of talked about it But like I always present it As a front Even if it's a wrong front We're a front You know what I'm saying There's no

As far as the kids know We don't disagree About nothing You know We're one solid unit And really If you want kids To respect The authority Of either one Of those parents In their home You have to do it That way Because as soon as They know they can Slide the shim in They'll just keep Shimming and shimming And shimming Until they're under The door So how do How do kids Without an example Of parents Working through difficulty As an example to them How do they learn To act in those situations Like don't you Or don't you To a certain extent Deprive them On how to On how to Handle things correctly If they never see you guys Have an argument Or not necessarily an argument But like have something Where you're You're in disagreement No Because you could Disagree with other people And you can disagree With the kids You can walk through That thing as a living example That you don't have to Fight with your wife To show them how to argue Like you just You can talk things out When the situations arise

With them You can talk things out With your neighbor With your family member You and your wife Aren't the only people Who have disagreements You reason with your child The same And settle disagreements With your child The same way That you settle Disagreements with your wife Definitely not So But I'm not teaching them How to be my wife I'm teaching them How to interact with people Ultimately are you Teaching them how to be a wife Yeah Yeah Mike Depends on if it's a boy Or a girl I guess Yeah I mean I mean you are Because your children Will grow up And look for someone Like you Your daughters Will want to That's fantastic Then they can present A united front To their kids That's genius Well but they don't know How You're still talking Relationship between parents And kids Not husband and wife So like Where do Where do kids Where do people Learn to be Learn how to settle Disagreements between Their spouse Well

Here's what I would say I would say that Doesn't happen at 11 Maybe that conversation Can come up I mean Tell me like It's a little different For our family But right Like at what age Did you see Probably for Dan's too Now that I think about it But right What age Are people Who like Grew up in a household Where the mom and the dad Were there The whole time You know At what age Did you kind of Do you see the puppet strings Behind the marriage Right Like up to a certain age You don't ever see it You just see mom and dad You know But like You know You go to college Or you come back from college And then You kind of get the puppet strings Mom's a little more honest About what dad's Kind of a jerk about You know what I'm saying Like I don't know Good or bad I guess that's generally The way I see it And so I suppose When your kids Are approaching that age Where they need That type of discussion Maybe you have that Discussion with them But I mean

It's certainly not When they're 11 Yeah I would say that I think it's I think it's probably An appropriateness thing Like they're not learning Anything from you When your kids are 6 And they're seeing you And your wife Hash it out I don't think they're Taking much away from that I think there is There is something Very strong about Consistency Basically not duplicity Not where like One parent is saying One thing And the other parent Is saying the other That's a mistake That is undermining That is going to cause A problem where they're Not dealing with you As a parental unit But they're trying to Get dad to say yes to candy Because mom will say no Type of thing And that automatically Puts mom in a bad position But I would say that As they get older Like Unless you're being Unhealthy about How you resolve Conflict with your spouse There isn't any reason To not be able To have that Example for them To see To see you resolve Conflict in a healthy way Yeah but I don't think That I guess maybe I was more thinking That like

When the conflict Concerns them Like I present United Front To my wife Or to my kids About Their The way they live Between me and her Okay You know what I'm saying Like On social issues Or whether we should Go to the Arby's or not We can certainly Handle that argument In front of the children But like When it comes to them Specifically You know We don't part ways Yeah We should get a Pinball machine in here What are your thoughts Okay Okay That's it Go ahead Continue We got plenty of room Just randomly thinking About stuff Maybe The challenge With that Is like Cheryl and I We grew up In very different settings When it comes to Discipline And really how How you interact With the kids I had a very Open and free I mean I had very few Boundaries Mostly because I didn't need them But even if I did

I don't know My parents were just This is where they were It was just like Eh whatever I'd sneak out Whenever I wanted I mean It just wasn't a big deal Never got in trouble Or anything Didn't do anything Too crazy And she had An upbringing Where there were A lot of rules And a lot of chores And a lot of Pretty rigid boundaries And so her tendency Is to ask a lot of questions That I don't even think of You know Or to put up Little rules And I'm like I'm even sitting there Thinking Why I mean You know And so it's hard for me To I have to Like She'll speak first You know Like alright We're not doing Red Kool-Aid I'm sitting there going What's wrong with Red Kool-Aid You know And the girls are like Come on dad Can't we have Red Kool-Aid Well no Because mom said We can't You know And so We agree What a total deflection

You turd Yeah mom said We couldn't have it I do say that I gotta watch that But I do Because I'm like I have no idea Why this is no But that's what mom said I don't see a problem With red Kool-Aid But I can't tell them that You know Because we gotta keep That unity thing And sometimes I honestly And then later She's like You don't support me He's like I don't agree with you I don't get it Because the problem there Is they're gonna push you Into being something That generally You don't wanna be Is if they say You know If I say No red Kool They say Well why And I wanna give my kids A real answer I'm like I have no idea I have no idea Then I have to say things like Because I said so I'm like Doggone it I don't wanna say that Exactly Because it's in the bible Well not really I don't know why So that's kinda tough That's one of the challenges I think Of parenthood Because you're both coming From different cultures Creating your own

New culture And you know And I don't even know How to have that conversation Ahead of time You know With your spouse Saying hey How are we gonna If the child wants Kool-Aid What are we gonna do How are we gonna How are we gonna Treat this You know Stuff just comes up You hit it with your knee Oh Sorry I wish I had an iPad I could have sent him a message Hey you So here Here's the secular advice You married a man Who appears to be Manipulative And not above Using your daughter To get to you I agree He shouldn't discuss Your disagreements with her Not because of its betrayal But because it's unfair And that she's being put In the middle Because there are problems The two of you can't resolve They should be talked out With a licensed marriage counselor Not a child If your husband refuses to go You definitely should go Without him Well that's fierce That's pretty serious Can't you just say Hey have a conversation Stop it Yeah You can go right to me Okay one more Ready Okay

Dear Life from the Pat We love our son-in-law Chip But not his family Family get-togethers Are very strained Because they drink A lot Oh my Chip's brother Has given beer To his three-year-old And no one says anything I find it appalling In a form of child abuse Chip's brother Is a know-it-all Sarcastic and rude I am worried about My grandson Spending any time with him My daughter Has also made her concerns No to Chip But nothing changes Should I stay out of this Teetotaling grandma Should grandma stay out of that thing How often do they get together I think that has a lot to do with it If it's once a year And you just tell your kids Ahead of time Okay You know Well it's grandma It's not kids It's grandma It's hard It's just a family It's the It's the in-law family And they're drinking A lot And give it to their three-year-old They give it to the kid I'm assuming There's like a sip I'm assuming the kid Took a sip Yeah And they didn't make A big deal out of it And grandma saw it And hoping a big whooping Was going to ensue And it didn't

And the guy's like Hey man Stay out of my beer You know I'm assuming that's how it went down But you know I can't imagine He took a can And said Here Derek Go take this downstairs And watch Elmo Yeah Because you should be put in prison That's weird I mean We In our family There's just It's just not We just don't do alcohol We don't really talk about it Other than Yeah You know If we do talk about We talk about moderation And stuff But it's just not Ever been an issue I'll remember the first time We were out With grandma and grandpa And it was a birthday And I don't know One of them Got like a glass of wine And Shanna's eyes Got so big She was like They're drinking And I was like Well it's just A glass of wine It's okay Got booze at the table She couldn't believe it It was like I cannot believe About whoever Is drinking You know And that's the setting We come from I can't imagine Being in a setting

When the in-laws Are just having a wild party And how often That is Once a week Once a month I don't know That'd be a toughie It'd be great education For your children But as the grandparent You almost got to Stay out of it I mean it's not your business It's kind of your business But I would hope That if it was my mom Or dad That they would look at me And stay out of it That they would just stay out of it I'd probably have a conversation And then back off Yeah I know where my kid is You know what I'm saying Like I would hope That I set enough Of a standard As a parent That they know me well enough To just stay out of it Yeah But I don't know If I was that grandparent If I could stay out of it Like I'd say You know I saw this go down What's the deal Because I don't know Like it's really hard Being a grandparent To a certain extent Because you can spoil them Because you can spoil them And send them home And that's fun But when you see things Not going right You have to stay out I would use it

As a teaching moment When we had our alone time Hey you know When we go to Johnny's Chip's house And they're really drinking Boy you know Be careful The Bible says You know Not to overdo it And I would I would not be afraid To do that I would hope My children's grandparents Would If it was in a scriptural Like an opinion thing You know Like We don't really like Those low rider jeans You know I don't know Whatever it is I would make that A teachable moment To be able to pass on Some Jesus To my grandkids For sure But then I'd stay out of it I mean I wouldn't Like make it Every time we got together Okay we're going to have Bible lesson time Remember the interlaws They're bad I wouldn't do that Try to You know Do division You should have to do it carefully You have to maneuver that Pretty carefully Does that make sense at all I don't know I'm trying to decide I'm trying to decide How far How much of it Is the grandparents' business And frankly Like

You can't change Chip's family Chip's family is what it is And You can't separate them Completely away from Chip's family Because they're his You know Like flawed or un-flawed That's them You can keep your kid Down in certain situations Like Is that to be held in the steam though? Like Well I mean But they're family They're They're leading my kid down a bad path But they're family Well they're not leading them in anywhere Unless you allow them to be led Are you there at the same time That they're drinking? I would assume I feel like I just wouldn't go I'd say Look man I'm not going to bring my kid over here You guys are drinking What are they going to say? This is the grandma though They're going to say You don't know anything about me I don't have a problem Well I'm going to church What the hell? See I think Here's what I see And this is why I'm kind of carefully Parsing this in my mind Is Is If it were My parents Saying it I'd be a little You know Because they They weren't Really Christ followers They were religious Which is different If they were Christ Following parents

I would welcome Their input You know When I'm a grandparent I will be a Christ following Grandparent And I'm not going to Take over Parenting for my child But I will certainly Enhance So not only Hopefully mom Be saying And dad Hey you know There's boundaries Here's the enhancer calling The three year old Probably has no idea You know what I'm saying It's them It's the three year old And the other three year old Playing downstairs in the pavement While other people are drinking They probably don't have any idea Yeah My kids have no idea When people are drinking alcohol No idea But we fire weapons And stuff all the time At the house The kids don't know Yeah What? Augustus Let's kill the fox With a fork Age appropriate You know I mean I don't remember The three year old It's been a while But I'll know again When I have a granddaughter I think the chat I think the chat was right He said if the kid Is in a truly dangerous situation Then the grandma Should say something If it's just preference

She should stay out I think that's probably Yeah that's fair Yeah Yeah And you know The careful distinction here Is like what is actually dangerous Like what is actually Going to negatively impact the kid Because I mean You could say That situation is dangerous It's going to lead them To a life of heavy drinking Slav and living Who could say that? Prostitution That's ridiculous Other people That's ridiculous Like I 40% of Catholics You can have sex out of marriage I think I agree 60% Like if it truly is Like a physical Dangerous situation That's the worry But right Like if drinking Is their big sin Like That means that kid Can't go around to anybody Who displays a prominent sin You know what I'm saying Like maybe drinking Is their sin And that one's the one That stands out You know what if Grandpa number two Is a prominent liar Or grandpa number three Don't believe in Jesus at all You know these are These are all sins That like now they can't Go over there either You know I mean they have to have Relationships with people But does he lie to the excess? Is there a non-excessive lying?

I lie within constraint You're right Lying is not a blessing to Jesus That we've abused Definitely not Okay I'm with you I'm with I'm not with you We part a ways What was the secular advice? I don't know I gave up on it After you were battling No second I didn't say anything You were Yeah you were gonna Dear Grandma Much as you might wish to Neither you nor your daughter Is going to change the behavior Of a belligerent drunk Which Chip's brother Appears to be That's fierce Here's what I'm amazed at Right Secular seems to know these people Way better than we know them I just take the letter That's been written And I assume a couple things But like She really knows them She has the ability Because alcohol Impairs his judgment To the extent That he's giving liquor To his three year old And the child's mother Allows it Someone should contact Child Protective Services And ask what can be done That'll ruin her life I recommend that you do it soon Because giving alcohol To a minor Is not only against the law But could make the child sick Or create a dependency As your grandson The boy should never be around His aunt and uncle Unless there's strict supervision

I mean She realizes what's in alcohol Right I mean like Seriously That alcohol's not going to hurt the kid It's just not You can give a kid Like three ounces of booze a day And it's not going to do anything to him It's just It's just fermented It might make him a little fun To be around You know Something Might make nap time A little easier Yeah Alright Hey you're listening To Life on the Path Thanks for hanging out with us This This Monday evening I really appreciate it And we had a very long conversation Our initial topic Went a solid hour and a half So I thank you for Hanging in there for the discussion I hope it was Helpful for you I think it was fruitful For us to kind of Walk through that discussion From where other people are at And you know What is with the Exclusivity of Christ How can we say that How can we really Purport to say That other people Are going to hell If they don't believe What we believe Chad's calling you a liar What do you mean And a dork No it's not going to hurt your liver No No It's just booze It's just fermented liquid

It's just booze Like a little booze I have done funerals Of alcoholics Who pickled their liver At more than In their 30s It's more than Three ounces a day It was 40s Man everybody's got A grandpa who drinks With banks I don't know that I'm going to have to see I'm going to have to see The stats on this kid That's going to ruin their liver At three ounces of booze a day What if it was wine Does that help Maybe he's not drinking Cheat beer He's not drinking Full calories He lives the high life Your baby looks like He has a beer gut Beer belly All babies look like that Alcohol points From licking their hands Alright We use NyQuil You're going to have to Send that over After using hand sanitizer Okay now After eating hand sanitizer That seems like A little bit different Does it not But that's pure alcohol Hand sanitizer is like 98% alcohol Not like beer Beer is not 98% alcohol Yeah Okay Hold on Here we go Snopes Booze Just wanted to send you A quick email And warn you about

Using hand sanitizer With your own kids We've been using that Sydney in place of Hand washing for Convenience sake Today she told me She was going up To room to get a toy While I was downstairs Feeding Griffin After taking a long Shower Blah blah blah Ten minutes Ingested some of the Hand sanitizer Blah blah blah Okay Origins Mother of two Ingested some hand sanitizer While the stories Is related The email accounts Fortunately did not Result in death Or serious injuries They're cautionary tales Worth heeding Because they present a scenario That all too easily Can be repeated However Although such poisons Are possible They're still quite rare Due to the relatively Large amount of Bad tasting sanitizer The dollar would have To ingest to experience Such harmful results Alright So I will concede That it can happen I don't know That seems like a lot 62% alcohol In that sanitizer Blood alcohol Was point ten That's quite a bit That kid's over the limit Over the legal limit No driving for him

Had ingested It doesn't say How much he had Three squirts Anyway Alright You're listening Live from the Path We will catch this I don't have any tunes We lost some of our We lost our other computer While we were talking So we were just going to Rudely cut off the show With no buffer music Or anything Next week What was the date next week We got some folks Ryan Buck's going to be in At the end of the month He's going to be coming in Sharing some tunes with us You can go to RyanPaulBucksMusic.com And check out information About him And we will see you next week Thank you for listening to Live from the Path We will see you next week We'll see you next week Thank you.
