Checkbox Christianity and the 'not capricious but unpredictable' God

A host warns against the lazy assessment of spiritual maturity: 'this is what a good Christian does' puts humans in the judgment seat with arbitrary behavioral checklists. Greg notes American Christianity wanted to put everyone in a tightly wound box, but God is bigger than the box. The mistaken output of anti-box rebellion is refusing the living water entirely: rejecting religion's box is fine, but skipping time with God to spite it is foolish. Ben closes the thread: the Holy Spirit should feel like the wild friend who could turn your world upside down at any moment; if faithfulness only means 'I read the scriptures today,' you are misunderstanding God. Not capricious, but unpredictable.
