Francis Chan, the Reformation, and abdication
Nathaniel brings a video of Mark Driscoll interviewing Francis Chan as Chan was leaving his booming church for house church, with Driscoll assuming the crowds came for Chan's preaching (seg-00085 to seg-00095). A host asks when the Reformation was (later corrected to 1517 and the 95 theses) and argues the early church had local leaders everywhere while today 10,000 people gather to hear one man - the same abdication as deferring to Latin-reading priests (seg-00096 to seg-00116). Paul is held up as the contrast: a traveling planter who built local leadership and left, never postured as pastor over thousands - 'I'm the pastor over these 20,000 people. No. You're not... It's a one way relationship. That's not pastoral' (seg-00133 to seg-00146).
