Matt Baer interview: Spoken's singer and the worship album

The guest Matt Baer (speaker-6), lead singer of Spoken, discusses his upcoming worship album. He explains that during the two-and-a-half-year writing process for Spoken's last record (seven albums out), some songs came out too spiritual — 'Jesus songs' that didn't fit Spoken. The turning point came when the band played a Louisiana church and was asked to lead worship the next morning; he volunteered despite never having led worship, and finished a song in desperation ('God, I love you. I need you') that became a chorus. He describes the worship record as just him and a guitar with loops and keys — laid back but more worshipful — and stresses that the worship record is an extension of his ministry, with ministry to his family first. He has a Kickstarter campaign running to fund studio time in January.
