The New Testament pattern: go, and keep listening

Ben answers that the metaphor holds up — 'not holistically' badly: the New Testament shows the Spirit speaking to praying and fasting groups who then acted, but markedly fewer examples of 'we did not do anything until the Spirit told me.' Jesus' primary direction is 'go' — make disciples — not wait for specific marching orders; the things aligning with God's character are safe backyard decisions (feeding the Hellenistic widows, Acts 6). The danger is taking the playbook under your own steam and going deaf to the Father: less effective, and missing the things God is actually doing.
